OFFSHORE FISHING FILIPINO STYLE!

we'd seen these massive outrigger canoes as we sail towards the Philippines and we had no idea of what they were or who lived on them how many people on board saving the people's 17 and they all sleep in here I think I think I'm Ben that's Ashley together we did the unimaginable we sold everything and then set off on a mission to sail around the world civilization see you later [Music] twenty-eight countries later and over 25,000 nautical miles we are only halfway around the world I've no idea what's gonna happen subscribe to follow the adventure as we finished this laughed [Music] [Applause] after three days at sea we pulled into the first island we saw on the Philippine coastline it was a whole new world the Sun was setting there's exotic smells new faces and crazy looking boats that would do drive-bys full speed the next morning we make quick friends with one of the guys on one of these crazy-looking boats can we go on yours yeah okay okay it's it's not tipping that is tippy who's starting the engine how about you turn ah thank you can I see your engine that's a little Honda how many horsepower 16 horsepower been so kind that he's gonna go show us one of these massive fishing boats they go for one month at a time and they just stay up there morning it's pretty cool pretty crazy [Music] these are their flippers days [Music] they're like what you're interrupting our morning to come and check out our vote it's okay okay [Music] Wow it's a big book so this is so this is a traditional fishing boat and they go out for how long three weeks or a month three weeks or a month breakfast what's the neat things diesel we'd seen boats like these over 200 miles offshore and our sleep deprived Minds could only imagine the wildest of stories of who they were and what they did nothing wrong alone we did for the folks yeah oh so those are the fishing line oh yeah it's a piecing line so they put some tuna on this and then yeah that goes behind the boat yeah you pushed 24 hours no no not in the morning and they'd be fished in the morning and something I should probably learn because that's when the fish come to the surface because it's cooler we should keep our fishing lines out longer not during the day too hot no fish they go down offshore we'd seen all these little boats around the mothership turn off the mother ship carries about ten little boats each sets out to catch as many ma mi tuna or blue marlin as possible how many votes normal please 1 2 3 then 10 1000 kilos per small boat and there's ten of them and they catch like mountain lion tuna yeah and they all have little hooks and they do that too no netting no nuts knowing that I'm just trying to figure out how many fish a day one mahi is about three kilos yeah so if one ma he's about three kilos that means 300 plus mahi in three weeks the 100 ma e a week about 15 fish a day for each of these guys each of these boats so this is one of the small goals and they're pretty amazing there's an engineer okay so yeah it's a little Honda again okay and that's what they use for Monte Monte very slam those are for money money one line you can cut a 20 piece at one time wow that's incredible this is for the big fish to bring up the visa yeah does the crew get paid per fish or book named Kalamazoo cause they split the income of the boat to put this into perspective these men motor several hundred miles off the eastern Philippine coastline a place where there is absolutely nothing but strong trade winds and big waves then live and work on this vessel for three weeks on end in case yeah wow that's a big prop a so they're just changing crops they're gonna put on a bigger one because they're not going this one big fix three plate blocks you have two engines on this code that you know bus together though oh wow wow there's the diesel engine down here it's huge can I go down yeah no--but yeah okay the water's cold Oh from the ice in the ice okay does it ever break down this engine yeah yeah it breaks often yeah okay Wow such a cool boat so they're just changing out the propeller here this is the old one and there's a new one going on I think I think we're ready for a test ride with the pranic rock let's go Don so just pulling up the anchor right here [Music] [Music] [Music] you're gonna eat that big smaller that's alright 17 people late that poor boy when do they eat the pink are they gonna eat it this time no no no I just belongs to the owner and they make it big yeah we want to have the game gave that for the button to give it yeah okay how many people on board saving the people's seventeen where do you sleep yeah and they all sleep in here one hammock and then all the fisherman sleep in here and up top - oh what's in here I think food or food okay right sardines sardines you know cooking these how everything up here and then you sleep up here - do you always have the lights on always at night and what what color are those red green green white blue and they blink yes they blink okay did you see that at one point we come very close to one of you in the middle of the night are you moving aboard us no there's no women no these no ladies allowed I hope it's not bad luck so they use these to put small fish in and then they take a medical ship them out of the country the big fish got frightened in the big cooler we'll go check it out no wow yeah it's amazing here it's just so well setup you've seen the cat and the cabin well I don't know if we're allowed and have to talk to the captain but it's very cool it's okay thank you oh three gPS ya know you guys had radios we could have called you commercial very fancy the compass boat has homeless yeah nice oh that's all your supplies also play yeah funny things can you can you show us sighs Wow so ice everywhere under now yeah where did the fish go it's full of ice okay wow that's incredible it's in these small boats they go out during the day well 7:00 a.m. a 7:00 p.m. and they fish with little lines and then when they catch a mahi-mahi or tuna they bring that back to the boat at the end of the day throw that in the freezer and yeah I guess it goes go to sleep thank you yeah it's incredibly ingenious the floor is cold here if you're ever hot you just lay down here where you fill up the tank oh martiza more diesel well listen how much diesel to use you diesel to go all the way out and then do you anchor yeah I think just sit with a dis it's it stops it is absolutely incredible how they fish here this boat is hand-built from a fishing line like 300 pound test fishing line and would be use and that's it like there's not much more to it there's a little bit of fiberglass here and there but that's about it we got some rope up top they got ice in the middle and they fish at 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. so cool and they got dogs on here they got pigs on here maybe they have cats I don't know [Music] [Music] it's amazing yeah it's pretty cool
