when i made my ocg series one history video i was sure that was going to be it it was a huge undertaking because initially it was going to be two small videos one on volume one and one at the end of 1999 then the script became the entire series one and a fairly quick summary it then evolved into the deep dive it is today and clearly so did this script too after that it turned out that everyone really liked not only that entry but all my other ocg content as well after much pondering i've decided to tackle the ocg series 2 before i move on to the gx era and beyond [Music] like my series 1 video i will be referring to the cards by their tcg name for consistency's sake like in america if you all enjoyed this one as much as the others then perhaps i'll continue on with the finale of a possible ocg trilogy with series 3. patreon gold maybe so you're telling me there's a chance series 1 was the most important time in yu-gi-oh's history not only did it kick off the card game but it slowly introduced mechanics like tribute summoning and the number of magic and traps you can use in a turn throughout the span of a year it released cards ranging from furious seeking to dd warrior looking like a whole different beast at the end when compared to the first set vol 1. from the tcg history i've tackled already the span of a year can mean a big change in not only meta but how the game looks from a card by card standpoint so what on earth did series 2 accomplish given the game now has its footing after all naming this series 2 implies a new beginning doesn't it [Music] before any set to start anew a limited list was officially formed on april 1 2000 while the tokyo dome tournament introduced a minimal limited list from july through august 1999 with reiki dark hole and trap hole all at one copy the series 2 list was the first to have a more fleshed out list to combat the ever expanding card pool this was to help even out the battlefield for all players limited was all exodia pieces change of heart dark hole last will pot of greed rygecki and mirror force and introducing semi-limited cards with two copies per deck was graceful charity harpy's feather duster and monster reborn this list severely damaged the top-tier exodia deck making it a poor imitation of itself for months also sangan and witch of the black forest received their first effect change for now they must be sent from the field to the grave to activate their effect instead of just whenever they're sent are you serious this also made graceful charity not as broken but still a great card arriving only two days after the premiere of yu-gi-oh duel monsters anime series 2's premiere set was magic ruler released on april 20th 2000. now remember the ocg tended to have more sets in total but they featured less cards so while magic ruler shares the same name as its tcg counterpart it does not include the same amount of cards with the ocg version only including 50 in the base set compared to tcg's 104 it still introduces many card types the set is known for like quick play and continuous magic cards keep in mind that while rituals already existed in the game magic ruler is the first core set to include them although you'd have to obtain black illusion ritual from the promotional book released that same day there are many powerful cards like painful choice mystical space typhoon and snatch steel at the same time toons did not make their way into the game yet still awaiting the following set and thanks to the three sacred treasures now existing a first turn advantage creates a dangerous precedent but at least it hard counters a tough exodia deck and other fusion-based decks or any general combo decks what this premiere set also did was adjust monster cards what did you do to my monster card now the card effect box has been stretched out to fit more text this won't be the last time the ocd changes the monster card layout in addition magic and trap cards now include icons to identify what kind of magic or trap card it is now you don't need self-destruction text for cards like trap hole hard to think konami took this long to add an icon to differentiate subtypes perhaps one day they'll even add icons for piercing damage direct attacking and other effects like that this was also the same time the new expert rules were established which added new rules such as maximum hand size the deck out rule first turn drawing side deck limit and lack of self-destruction text as i just mentioned also introduced were chaining and spell speed which for those who don't know what they are i've been looking forward to this in the shortest of explanations they make sense of multiple card activation and resolution while series 1 had a lot of equipment beat decks the injection of effect monsters soon took its place but when magic ruler came out it brought back eclipse in the form of acts of despair and maha vailo the spare gives a whopping 1 000 attack with no downsize now your witch of the black force can attack over a gemini elf or even dark elf equipping maha vile with axe now gets you a monster that can even attack over a blue eyes and that's just with one equip magic it should be said that this deck still wouldn't regain its footing of its previous footprint then there is no pleasing you may would only include a revision to the limited list now including at one harpy's feather duster and at two snatch steel keep in mind that heavy storm was still at three and the three sacred treasures left unscathed check you you stay to july 13 2000 is when the next set pharaoh's servant was released this set shares name only with its american counterpart that set would be comprised of two completely different sets ocg's release would be the companion set to the familiar magic ruler now we get floaters toon cards and other rituals like performance of sword megamorph would be a big card here as not only is it a bit more balanced than acts of despair it works alongside solemn judgment and also cyberstein for a deadly deck with a blue eyes ultimate dragon otk since ultimate was widely released in premium pack 3 on august 10th the combo with stein ultimate and mega morph to increase ultimate's attack to 9 000 it create another one turn kill apart from exodia what 9 000 i should also point out that besides the different or unaltered art the ocg abundantly has tuned world is an interesting card here its original effect is actually quite different from when it first released i've talked about before how some ocg card effects were a bit different like how sang could be activated when discarded from the hand but tune world in this case is very different normally its effect is that you pay 1 000 life points to activate it and that's it originally the tech said pay 1 000 life points when played in addition if you do not pay 500 like points during each of your standby phases this card will be destroyed when this card is sent from the field to the graveyard add the life points that you have paid to your like points much different and more convoluted and even made its way to some early us released video games shame it didn't give more protection to toon monsters if you want to play toons at the time then this deck shows how awful they were back then and you may be familiar as it translated quite faithfully in the tcg another big card in the set was cyberjar as its effect would give a big boost to the deck destruction deck as a way to not only scrape decks but to add attackers or floaters or searchers two days later there would be another list revision where limited confiscation and forceful sentry and semi-limited delinquent duo and grapekeeper's servant the treasures would be somewhat regulated with servant being the odd card out you can't have them [Music] this helped mahaville strategy pick up some steam but exodia still had trouble due to the treasure still being around and deck destruction not being as good due to serpent at 3. but as i mentioned earlier it only took till august for cyberstein otk to become a fearsome new deck that came like wildfire but it was a combo deck and as we know combo deck still had weaknesses like salt and judgment or widespread ruin so it's not like this was a tier zero deck either after pharaoh's servant the next would have to wait an additional month as the following month held the video game tournament and this is a mouthful yu-gi-oh duel monsters 3 try a holy god advent official tournament street duel legend of power the game known in the west as dark duel stories this was held between july 25th and august 27 2000 what's cool about this tourney were the prize cards and where they were all dark magician girls i don't even know if that's pg duelist from seventh to second place would receive a rare copy while winners would receive a secret rare copy with many other copies given away otherwise from either lottery or to employees there was also an alternate arc dmg price card that was shown with a slightly different effect where she gained 200 attack for her effect instead of the normal 300. from what i can tell this was only a promotional placeholder and this version was never actually printed which is a shame because that art is amazing dmg wouldn't become publicly available until premium pack 4 in january of the following year during this time on august 15th megamorph would receive a limited spot which would definitely hurt the otk deck also during the video game tourney was the first international yu-gi-oh tournament on august 20th 2000. this was the yu-gi-oh asia championship 2000. first place would go to tomi look from hong kong with his canon burn deck yeah japan couldn't even win their own tournament you lose good day sir you can tell just by looking at it but this deck was absolutely nuts imagine using painful choice and selecting three sinister serpents those serpents would in turn help provide fuel for a graceful charity tribute to the doomed or even magic jammer i suppose it made delinquent duo less powerful but i think that's a fair trade given the card pull even with a limited list now around even if popular decks would lean towards the beat down strategy with cards like gemini elf having a dual strategy proved to be too much using a card-like ultimate offering to flood the field with monsters to then tribute off with canon soldier using fodder like sangan or witch of the black forest to search more monsters out to someone with offering for potentially more burn was just well like i said nuts do you want to get nuts look would obtain the first place prize card a very unique blue eyes ultimate dragon with art that has yet to be reprinted to this day in any official capacity all of the other prize guards also had unique art for the time for gemini elf summon skull kuribo and red eyes black dragon september 9th would be notable for booster r2 which featured many needed reprints of gemini elf and graceful charity two staple cards that were out of circulation up till this point then on september 28th the set curse of anubis was released being one of two sets that would form into tcg's pharaoh's servant big cards in the set would include jinzo imperial order and nobleman of crossout finally a one tribute monster would stomp the comp over summon skull since jinzo would turn off all trap cards no questions asked sure it has a hundred less attack than skull but there were plenty of removal cards anyway imperial order would be on the other side of that coin negating powerful magic like pot of greed and right gekki this set also gave birth to the reanimate deck a deck revolved around reviving monsters given the high amount of revival cards now existing the deck would have no major impact lastly morphing jar number two a monster that bounces monsters on the field back to the deck and summons excavated monsters and the shallow grave a defensive revival card that would be excellent additions to the deck destruction deck it should be noted that jar number 2 at this broken ocg point had no level limitations to what it could summon off its effect unfortunately the deck would receive a hit in two cards hitting the scene in an old men of crossout and the ceasefire to remove monsters from play and flip up monsters respectively there are only two things i can't stand in this world noblemen of crossout and sea but jar number two was still a powerful card for the engine and many loop combo decks to come so much so that it would eventually see itself along with cyber jar on the limited list in november if i wasn't clear enough just how groundbreaking curse of anubis was it also created the comeback of a fearsome deck exodia this is in thanks to backup soldier a card that salvages up to 3 weak normal monsters now you could dump exodia pieces to the graveyard and add them back to your hand easily remember painful choice this new iteration of exodia would be known as bitter exodia the emerging third power behind meta good stuff the evolution of standard name for its well good stuff and death destruction november would be another new limited list in limiting morphing jar number two sinister serpent cyber jar jinzo snatched steel monster reborn and source of revealing light semi-limited now are heavy storm and imperial order this definitely hurt deck destruction but in a balanced way it didn't really affect good stuff seeing as witch could just search out jinzo anyway the serpent and choice combo would be no more however canon burn decks would continue its downhill spiral surprisingly bitter exodia came out on skate also this month had the exr starter box that added two new cards soul exchange and card destruction the latter would be perfect fuel for deck destruction to rise up as the best deck once again as well as the card being a counter to bitter exodia good stuff would try out soul exchange with minimal effect december 7th would be an interesting time as it was the release of the game boy color game yu-gi-oh duel monsters 4 battle of great duelists and their promotional cards the game has three different releases where you either play as yugi kaiba or joey and as such pre-ordering each one would get you a promotional egyptian god card unplayable in an official duel but the first release of them in any capacity nice think of pokemon and exclusive monsters although in this case it'd be cards yugi would get used slifer kaiba obelisk in which the promotional art is radically different and joey surprisingly had raw each game still came with a pack of five promotional cards pre-ordered or not and there's some impact cards here yuki with ring of destruction a powerful trap that can destroy one monster and inflict damage equal to their attack for a quick monster bypass or even a possible game ending explosion yugi also had anti-spell fragrance which delayed activation for magic cards a punishing card for magic heavy decks and was quite rare until its reprint in 2010. kaiba primarily had vorse raider a monster akin to the popular gemini elf in terms of stats just with a little higher defense now your high attackers just increased by a lot because people were still not into dark elf or geraigumo joey didn't have much value is that like a personal attack or something poor joey but hey at least he gets to live in a world where he did beat merrick on the 14th would be the latter half of pharaoh's servant the sequel to curse of anubis thousand eyes bible big cards would be thousand ice restrict goblin attack force and maximum overdrive goblin is a high attacking card with a downside akin to dark elf it's seen as a single-use monster that didn't have such a high burden it was a good tech to take care of opposing gemini elves giant soldier stone or even dry gumo why won't you love me dad fiend mega cyber and magic drain were cool too but goblin and imperial order just proved to be better thousand eyes restrict would be the first card in yu-gi-oh to claim ultimate rarity it's kind of funny that restrict would be so faithful to the original effect while pegasus other monsters tunes would be heavily neutered while a fusion that did exist at the end of series 1 restrict would be more commonly used alongside cyber sign as occasional tech and good stuff at the tail end of 2000 on december 21st the value book 3 would be released which most notably included character cards reminiscent of the bandai game's character cards these are a bit more like skill cards from duel links and speed duels and should be assumed illegal in an official duel yugi would turn the field into yami tribute one less monster for dark magician in exchange for you losing 300 light points during your standby phase joey would increase your battling monster's attack by 800 points but they cannot attack the turn they are summoned kaiba at the start of the duel you may declare one monster type turning all monsters in deck hand and on feel to that type i don't know why it specifies on the field considering there will be no monsters on the field by this point you also start to deal with 4 less cards instead of 5 and that becomes your hand limit for the remainder of the duel pegasus had the effect where during your main phase you can pay 1 000 life points to add one card from your deck to your hand with the drawback of starting with 6 000 life points instead of normal 8 000 well i guess in this case it would be 5 000. i wonder why konami never introduced this as an official card type until it awoke from hibernation for duel links in 2016. to summarize ocg yu-gi-oh in 2000 exodia went in as a top-tier deck however a limited lists and other game changes killed the deck and left room for good stuff to make way following the first set midyear would see deck destruction make its mark and soon behind was stein otk and cannon burn later in the year exodia would make its way back as bitter exodia resulting in a standoff between bitter stuff and destruction moving into the new year [Music] [Applause] the first event in 2001 yugioh was a new limited list now limited painful choice limited removal imperial order ceasefire backup soldier magic cylinder and call the haunted semi-limited san gan witch swords for ryoku noblemen lasswell and ring gravekeeper's servant would now be off the list understandably choice backup and call would all be direct hits to bitter exodia even if it didn't kill the deck like it did to classic exodia a year prior only knocking it down a peg from its top tier brethren limiter and ryoku were the odd choices here with no real explanation most likely konami worrying about how these cards could possibly be used in the future i mentioned earlier that dark magician girl would get a public release in premium pack 4 well that time finally came officially on sale on january 18th but the big card from the six card set would be magic cylinder it's affecting the gate and attack and inflict potentially high burn damage was a card many smarter players used efficiently remember back in the early days of yu-gi-oh life point advantage was a bigger priority than card advantage especially in the ocg good stuff players saw this card as their second mirror force alongside ring of destruction where players were waking up to but because of jinzo still being a prominent card burn decks weren't quite a thing yet february 9th with the release of shonen jump issue 11 ocg got archfiend of gilford when this card is into the graveyard he equips to one monster and weakens their attack this means he could be used with painful choice graceful charity and car destruction and then if the equip monster is sent guilford's effect would just activate again but tributing or certain effects like woodland sprite would make guilford miss timing this may be the earliest instance of this confusing rule at the same time however combining the effects of guilford and gearfree also made an infinite loop that never went anywhere but this didn't stop from the creation of a guild for otk of course because of miss timing this deck was only ever used at local events where players didn't know any better it would be a while for the next set but the year did have the second national tournament on march 1st in which the three prize cards will be very unique combinations of the winners and monsters taking soggy the dark clown skull knight and mountain warrior and mixing them into masahiro the dark clown first place yasushi the skull knight second place and tomohiro the mountain a warrior third place unfortunately i am unable to find any information regarding this tournament otherwise and even the cars themselves were stated to be faked by konami and previous upper deck employee kevin stewart on a pojo post in 2005 although an ocg ban list for the 2010 world championship had them listed on it making the cards recognized as existing in some official capacity given the meta climate at the time meta decks would at least be good stuff deck destruction and bitter exodia yeah not much variety huh thousand eyes bible clearly did not make a huge impact april 1st would see some limited edition packs most notably are the joey pack which introduce scapegoat a card that could be abused with canon soldier or united we stand also in yugi pack there is mystical ref panel a trap that transfers magic effect to the opposing player this means you could effectively steal cards like pot of greed graceful charity or delinquent duo quite a big counter in a way magic drain couldn't reach and at the time much more influential to the meta culture than scapegoat in which that car would get its time as you may expect following would be the first half of tcg's labyrinth of nightmare which is the set spell of mask on april 19 2001. spell a mask would actually become a speed duel card of the same name almost two decades later it was at this point that cards like united we stand mage power offerings to the doom car safe return and torrential tribute would become available the two eclipse would be a decent boost to the popular maha violet deck safe return would be a key card in rejuvenating exodia in a new incarnation thanks to the powerful draw engine we now have treasure exodia based on the ocg name for safe return survival treasure card you would dump monsters in the grave and revive them to draw a card hopefully into your exodia pieces a solid new deck if not as good as series 1 exodia another deck that popped up because of safe return as what we might know as fire princess burn or in the ocg naming treasure card big bang this deck used a cute strategy involving a card from the famous curse of anubis set gift of the mystical elf see the ruling back then was that if your opponent had five monsters on the field you would not gain 1500 life points you would gain 300 five times what combine that with princess's burn effect and you got yourself one lean mean sean bean burn deck it would not be able to break into the top tier meta may 28th would be the time for a limited list update limited united we stand semi-limited morphing jar 2 and backup soldier unlimited last will rurioku is surprisingly still on there jar number two going back to two only helped deck destruction while backup and will not only help treasure exodia but treasure big bang too then would not be the following set rather the very first structure deck creatively named structure deck yugi this was released on june 28 2001 while introducing swift gaia and obnoxious celtic guard the deck would also feature key cards in dark magician girl magician of black chaos cyber jar and mirror force comparing this to the tcg 2004 yugi evolution deck is like night and day the ocg clearly had a different mentality when it came to reprints and deck lists something that has been a sort of joke even to this day where it's rare to see some of the great ocg reprints make their way into the tcg for example black chaos took about a year and a half into the ocg life cycle to become an easily obtainable card in premium pack 3. on the other hand the tcg first got this card in the latter half of 2007 in premium pack about five and a half years into the tcg's life cycle i think many were even surprised that the tcg finally got an affordable reprint of infinite permanence in the cyber dark structure deck a three-year-old card by 2021 after that we got the aptly titled labyrinth of nightmare on july 21st big cards here would be basically the soul eater zombira the dark and destiny board zombira would be a brother to goblin attack force as the arguable best disadvantage attacker mazu would be a monster that using its effect could beat over jinzo so now you have three high power attackers that helped the more pure beatdown decks royal command would actually be a big card in the ocg because as you already know one of the best decks lying around played plenty of flip effect monsters and this card took good care of them by negating their effects command alone would be fatal poison to this meta deck spell of mass would also include an ultimate rare blue eyes with labyrinth having the same rarity but for dark magician this was also the birth of the last warrior deck a fusion deck that was more of a fan favorite deck than anything meta defining august 12th would be the yu-gi-oh asia championship 2001 which was won by a female duelist from hong kong using a good stuffed deck unfortunately i cannot obtain any other information about this event september 6 would be the release of yu-gi-oh true duel monsters 2 succeeded memories which included the promotional card slate warrior a strong low-level monster that could get even stronger should you use its flip effect it's like gemini elf with an effect although given you had to buy a video game to obtain it players still tended to lean towards l4 raider although it was a decent choice aside in the mirror match almost a month later on september 20th was struggle of chaos which you may have guessed is the first half of tcg's legacy of darkness look for exiled force reinforcement of the army and ryu ryusenshi exile would make the largest impact since it can destroy one monster without any limiting condition like a man-eater bug or deity warrior would have they are easily searchable especially with the new reinforcements of the army plus they can revive to pop off their effect again and again and thanks to cyber sign cell being around now you have phoenix call dragon and dark balter in the fusion deck to contend with once again after this set would be the release of structure deck joey on october 25th similar to the yugi deck that past june this deck would feature many cool cards not seen in the 2003 tcg joey deck if you got this deck you'd get jinzo as well as rocket warrior and panther warrior two cards released right after goat format in the tcg that otherwise would have been some really fun cards in that era this deck also introduced luminous soldier and command knight on november 19th because it seems to be an on scheduled monthly thing the last set of 2001 you get would be released mythological age where you could nab yatagarasu injection fairy lily fiber jar and bottomless trap hole lily was a curious car because it was seen as an upgraded dark elf of sorts while didn't replace other beaters and good stuff it's still a decent card all things considered remember yatagarasu that bird that went and flicks damage to your opponent they skipped their next draw phase yeah ocg got that spirit monster too yugi of yu-gi-oh history.com stated yada as the worst yu-gi-oh monster in history what makes yu-gi-oh work from a versus standpoint is that each turn the turn player gets to draw a card to gain a resource regardless of position that is a balancing rule of the game yada is mechanically a scale tipper at least this was true back then when every card didn't search two other cards in special summon in solitaire fashion this is also unlike a card like time seal in which you get a single use from it and while yada is inherently weak with only 200 attack points when it strikes it strikes confidently and with precision it's a spirit monster meaning it returns to the hand at the end of your turn protecting itself from raigeki and tribute to the doomed you can't even trap hold this thing [Music] good stuff would gladly make use of this new power card as would the new yada lock deck which really was just the new good stuff deck and while not as popular as yada lock you have a new last turn deck which created another kill combo deck using last turn and jalgen to prevent your opponent from special summoning via last turn declaring you the winner plus fiber jar is now a card having the effect of essentially a deck reset button and if used on your turn you now have an open field to play ball or it's used on your opponent's turn and they're left with five cards it's almost as if they never had a draw phase making your opponent lose one card in the process at least while yada turned the tides greatly fibrejar could overrule the decision one thing was certain however this truly was a legacy of darkness on december 20th yu-gi-oh dual monster 6 expert 2 came out with the promotional card temple of the kings which lets you activate trap cards the turn you set them the following day as a v jump promo the game also got makiora the destructor whom when sent to the gy allows you to activate traps from your hand easy to do with cards like choice charity and card d the final piece of the last hurrah 2001 yu-gi-oh was on december 28th in shonen jump issue 4-5 with a promotional impact card exchange of the spirits a card that swaps both players graveyards with their deck while you do need 15 cards in your grave to activate it decks were made around the strategy with help from makiora which again can let you use exchange of the spirit turn 1. it is in essence another deck destruction deck and even if your opponent has cards remaining in their newly formed deck other cards like morphing jar and card destruction clean up the holes in the strategy the deck would reach its peak in march 2002 with the release of furonic guardian and the card's reckless greed and book of tayo making it a top tier deck of its era heading to the new year yada grazu parasited goodstuff as the top tier deck by this point other big decks would be exchange treasure exodia treasure big bang and last turn no no no no no no guilford otk would be in the shadows at local levels due to misinterpretation of the roles as i've mentioned earlier as you can tell the game no longer resembles what it used to be as every top deck is some form of immediate victory immediately breaking into 2002 much like 2001 was a new much needed limited list limited vibra jar yatagarasu mage power and ring semi-limited last turn now off the list entirely sinister serpent and megamorph konami for sure was responding to the rising power of degenerate decks but now with megamorph unlimited stein otk could in theory come back if it wasn't for the current meta climate leaning in other decks directions but exchange and treasure card decks remained untouched perhaps in exchange's case it was because the deck was still very much new as for the two treasure card decks i have no idea how they got away scot-free however it was around this time that gift of the mystical elf received its new ruling which dealt a critical blow to the deck's viability then structure that kaiba came out january 24th it's kind of surprising that they made a joey deck before kaiba apart from the ex box what's absurd is get this this deck also included cyberstein blue eyes ultimate dragon and crush card virus holy crap the ocg has forever been holding out on the us imagine a deck like this in say 2004 or even 2005 tcg that would have been mind-blowing plus having reprints of force raider and ring of destruction were very much needed seeing as prior they were video game exclusives but i'm not done yet aside from kaiser seahorse the deck introduced vampire lord having a monster that revives itself should it be destroyed by a card effect made it a great protection against yadalock and the deck's various forms of effect destruction unfortunately its attack is still fairly low making it susceptible to goblin and zombira which makes lord not quite the bulletproof armor the game needed also keeping in mind that its only use is against the one deck but it was a step in the right direction nonetheless come march 21st we would get the two final big releases of series 2 on the same day first up is the corset veronica guardian which would be half of the other titled english set but the other half would be the start of series 3. not a ton of great cards but still some good ones in mirage a nightmare and trap dust shoot using nightmare with mst created the popular mirage typhoon combo in which drawing power helped out any and all combo decks dust shoot on the other hand didn't see much play by this point due to the three sacred treasures still being around reckless greed was more draw power that can be activated easily with machiora making it just another pot of greed in the grand scheme of things book of tayo also helped push first turn kills by flipping your jars face up for their effects bulk of moon would also work with tayo if not for being non-essential at this point along with the sets given the new zombie support and other strong cards like pyramid turtle and don zaloog the tomohan deck was forming short for tomato handicap handicapped being a term for hand destruction cards like zelugur duo essentially handicapping your opponent turtle in particular while it could not get every zombie card out it could at least get out vampire lord making it a fearsome combo for a deck that slowly climbed up the ranks if you didn't want that then structured deck pegasus should fit your needs pegasus had a whopping 6 new cards tuned canon soldier gemini elf goblin attack force mass sorcerer table of contents and tuned defense plus it came with thousand eyes restricts rygecki and of course parrot drag making this a true pegasus deck and this isn't even mentioning all the other great cards from this deck the tcg really should have at least got a table of contents throw me a freaking bone here the final limited list of series 2 was on may 1st and it hit 18 cards in total showing just how wild the scene got by this time limited injection fairy lily witch machiora twin head of behemoth exile force slate warrior morphing jar duo heavy storm card d upsart prima swords exchange and reckless listen listen listen listen [ __ ] you [ __ ] your [ __ ] [ __ ] semi-limited guardian sphinx marauding captain and rhoda no cards were taken off exchange was clearly the primary target here but other top decks like treasure exodia and yada lock were hurt as well the zombie engine and in turn the tomohan control deck made bank with this new list utilizing a now or slower game state as yuji of yugiohistory.com said at least we are out of the situation where the game ends the moment we lose rock paper scissors it's almost ironic looking at many modern formats and how the game tends to make this inevitable loop now and again [Music] while there have been other small details about series 2 such as premium packs the duelist id card and reprint sets i think you get the idea of what series 2 was all about with sets spanning from april 1 2000 through march 21st 2002 this follow-up series to the groundbreaking series 1 led the way to the birth of the tcg while still growing the cardboard in the east its meta wasn't as healthy as it once was being a taste of things to come for the us as many of us can relate to but it still had great releases compared to the volumes and boosters of 1999. even from a structural standpoint it introduced a true limited list structure decks and even spruced up monster card layouts a bit 99 yugioh was rocky in many ways and yet it managed to survive not only that but y2k and y2j as well but this is not to say series 2 wasn't without warning as what started as a rather simple game soon turned to a completely out of bounds erupting volcano of otk decks by the end the dual environment endured scorched earth and came out of it alive if only a bit bloated by the powerful card pool it exchanged its spiritual 1999 roots for something a bit more chaotic but something also that kept the game running for decades to come i'd like to give a big credit to yugohistory.com for chronicling many of the ocg history and meta as well as yukipedia and road of the king.com for additional resources hopefully you all found this entry interesting as the true precursor to tcg yu-gi-oh and another step into ocg yu-gi-oh maybe i'll make this a trilogy and do series 3 or even beyond only time will tell
