good morning welcome to office hours or evening if you're coming to us from Singapore or else we're super excited today I have Conrad Lin if you're not familiar with his gamification project it's pretty out of this world it's a really cool example of how to use notion I kind of supercharging its functionality so Conrad I'm so excited to get to chat with you today you've really really gamified your setup and you've kind of I feel like you've taken your notion space to a whole other level and you've been very generous and sharing kind of behind the scenes of how you made it and your templates and so thank you so much for coming on today and I would just love to hear a little bit about yourself kind of what you do where you're coming in from yeah well thank you so much for the warm introduction Marie definitely I think the work you're doing your own notion is fantastic as well and thank you so much for letting me be a part of this and sharing my my experiences I guess yeah a little about me I am as the description kind of mentioned I'm an entrepreneur by trade I'm really passionate about building high-impact tech solutions that genuinely benefit the global community and I really enjoy it when I can empower talented and goal-oriented teams to deliver you know just extraordinary results in a short amount of time so I spent the last decade traveling between Toronto Vancouver where Marie's from I'm actually Canadian myself so the Canadian and I'm gonna run Singapore so it is a bit early for me to am but I see a lot of troopers in the chata slow and I you know my heart's to you thank you for tuning in but basically I'm here because I'm working on an ecosystem for business growth my startup called fin trucks and essentially is inspired by the hyper connectivity that Facebook and LinkedIn has brought to our generation I hope to bring it forward to businesses as well and yeah so essentially over the past I think it's been around four months since I started an ocean um are you serious okay for long for me but ever since I picked it up I I just saw like a lot of power in it because you know I first started building out like I'll explain a bit more about gamification in a second right but essentially I started this project out just between me and my friends and my family I wanted to find a better way for them to stay motivated and just accomplish all they could accomplish and over time you know I started sharing it outside my little family network into my communities and they found it very fascinating and interesting so I actually started on a journey of content creation just like Marie here and you know sharing videos about how my how the principles of how I think work and you know just a bit behind the scenes of hogg build things how you can get started building this and hopefully today I can share more details whatever questions you might have I can answer and hopefully we'll be productive together that's amazing yeah I see lots of people coming in from I got Sweden Cleveland Ohio there's Poland there's people from everywhere it's this is really awesome there is a pole at the bottom too I do encourage you to answer that if you can just so we can get a sense of where people are at looks like it's almost 50/50 on this is people's first office hours which is cool oh that's amazing yeah so a lot of people have never used formulas many many people just getting started we have some people using them pretty often and 50/50 in terms of you know whether or not people have seen your gamification project which is cool I think it's going to be neat for people to kind of see we have a couple people just like myself to they can't believe you managed to pull this off in four months because many of us have been tinkering a notion for a very long time so I think like I was inspired by a lot of the resources out there like honestly you just YouTube or Google notion guys social templates and tutorials you'll see great stuff coming from people like Marini like you know you're your master tags database was actually the the click that helped me solve all I was going to do gamification right and then so so you have a part to play here actually I really definitely been through your videos and through your guidance and of course everybody else who's been contributing to this space that I've been able to just fast-track my knowledge and I truly anybody can do the same oh absolutely and I think sometimes people are a bit self-conscious about sharing their space but I think anytime you see how someone uses your space it triggers new ideas so even I think it wasn't seeing your gamification project and the way you had your epic wins and everything I actually went back and made a size a size and progress database and kind of adapted what I was doing to you so I feel like there's always this sort of you know learning seeing taking what works and adapting your spaces which is really fun and exciting so yeah the most important thing is that every one space is customized to you like I don't dare to say that my way is the best way I will never say that I'll just say my way is a way and if you can learn what you can from my space I think that's about all the knowledge I'm going to give you because it's up to you to take it farther and if you find out how to integrate it you know specifically for your educational center specifically for your workplace the suite for yourself to achieve your goals all the power to you and I'm very happy that if I'm able to help you advance in that level that's awesome should we jump in and kind of check out your ear yeah also just wanted to put it out there too if you have any questions at all while Konrad is showing his space to make sure to put it in the ask a question area I will keep an eye on the chat but sometimes those questions can get lost and so if there's something specific that you want to see as well don't hesitate to put it in the chat because we can also like adapt the session we can if you want to kind of do a little bit of a how-to or something like that we can always we want these sessions to be as useful as possible so just make sure to ask for what you want to see yeah exactly yes I'll share my screen and I think I'll start by showing what can be done with with formulas before I dive into like the nitty-gritty of them so just so that you can understand a bit about like why you might even want to try out for me with us in the first place I think that'll be a good start um let me first talk a bit about gamification and like why all came about just so the theory just to get you like your minds prepped of what's to come essentially like I stumbled upon this idea and it's not a new idea of gamification by no me it's a brand new idea but essentially like I just saw this entire generation you know and it's from all the way from Millennials all the way to my grandma who's not addicted to these mobile games right and every single moment every single day you just you know when you're bored you're on the no subway your transit you're on your phone you know playing Pokemon go whatever you're playing now and they all have these like little hooks that get you to keep engaging with them every single day you know for a set amount of time and if you don't do it and if you don't move forward and you know you login you lose your sense of progression and I was thinking like how come we can't do that to our daily lives why don't we impart that into our daily lives and make sure that you know we are rewarding ourselves where small wins we do every day even they're not completely visible and ensure that we're actually moving forward and progressing and eventually the outcomes that were achieving are then born they'll be bore fruit so you know I started on that kind of concept and you know I tried out many have a trackers and many of those apps that claim to gamify your life but I always found that they were quite limited and what they could do simply because they are you know just pre-built software and they assume that your life is a certain way so when I stumble upon notion as I mentioned four months ago you know and the most beautiful thing about notion that I really enjoy is that you can add so many different properties and this might look daunting to you like definitely is quite daunting right now but I'll be explaining how this kind of works and what you can't on you don't what you don't need to pay attention to but essentially the idea of having so many properties actually lets you be able to play around with the structure of how that page will behave and this is something that for from what I can tell no other productivity app has me will give me that and I've been using a sign up using JIRA and using so many different things for my workspace back in the day and you know this is just really what makes it possible so you know so I embarked on that journey and the theory behind is that every action should be keema fine with good behavior reliably rewarded and bad behaviors reliably disincentivized and this is this can be achieved by introducing concepts found in gaming on experience points and gold rewards so one thing that you have to know first about my kind of philosophy here is that in your growth journey or in your journey to achieve goals right specific definite things that you want to achieve in your life you kind of want to split them up into three big questions why are you doing it which is generally the goal like why so maybe your goal is to keep it and that's why you're going to do anything relating to that goal your results which is what right and there's like key results or this is outcomes you can call it some people like to visualize it like that and essentially it explains what's what does it mean for your pool to be complete so if you say that you want to keep fit maybe for you keeping fit as being gonna run 10 kilometers in one go maybe for another person the reason they're keeping fit means that they have a six-pack maybe for another you know they can bench a hundred pounds right it's just very different for each person and you got a doubt if you say that you want to keep fit or be fit what does that mean for you and that's how I got Dyna Phi that and then the third and most important thing and this is where most people stumble I truly believe most people know what they want in life but they just don't know how they're gonna get there right so then you gotta think about projects you know what are the different series of tasks that you're going to do in order to achieve your outcomes to achieve what you want to achieve and of course you have many subtasks under that so generally like for your goals and for your results they are rewarding on its own right like if you achieved a big goal and you ran that marathon or you cheater great results and you can you know run 10km you have that six-pack right as a joke those are rewards by itself you've achieved what you wanted to achieve but for the projects and tasks that you're working on in order to get there right many times you don't have the right visibility or even the right incentives to keep on doing those tasks because it might just be tedious for you to keep engaging on them I'll keep using the fitness exam we'll move on to more business sector examples as well if they make more sense but for the Fitness example like you know anybody who's on fitness will know if you go to a gym you know every single day for the first month to three months you're not gonna see any results it's not obviously that you ought you're all gonna wake up one day you will be super buff you're me super fit no they're incremental steps for progress and that's being greedy creatures right we don't we want it all right now right we don't wanna set that and we want we want to get progress fast so what essentially I conceptualize here is that well when you do a task what if you could reward yourself with not just experience points right but also able to move ourself with gold and I'll kind of explain why this is important and trust me this theory stuff is gonna end real soon if you get this really good on you but if you don't get this yet I I hope that I'll be able to explain a bit more so essentially like being gonna have scaling experience points for the size of the task will help you reward bigger wins in your life so basically I'll help you keep motivated to continuously pursue those small wins which becomes bigger wins which comes huge wins and so on and also a human experience points will level up your character which promotes progression so previously when you are doing those small tedious tasks that you weren't too sure if they are really building up towards your outcome you can come you can now quantify the tasks that you did towards the specific traits that you're trying to build so if every day you're going to keep it and you're going to the gym you're building out your strengths and games do this really well right you grind away in the game and you spend you know however many hours on a specific task that will level up your specific traits you feel good about that and eventually your skill go to enough level and you can show the entire population of the gaming community how much of you know how good you are because you've done all those things but in real life you know often it seems that the outcome is all that you see so this is my way of kind of ensuring that you don't get demotivated before you hit that outcome that you want and that's super important for you to be able to achieve your goals and think that my gamification template allows you to do is that you can have positive multipliers for early completion and receive negative multipliers relate completion which promotes punctuality and this is especially key when you have time-sensitive tasks if there are certain tasks that you have to do and if you don't do them you're going to you know lose progression or you're going to miss your opportunity then that's where I see that it's very important for you to maintain those streaks and if you've ever used snapchat all right and I don't know maybe we'll have a poll later for Yanis if you use that Perry or not but back when I was in school people were crazy about that people would actually send pictures of the wall or off like some random object just to maintain a snapchat treat streak with their friends what this means that they are sending it all day and I'm like if you can do that for you know seamlessly meaningless stuff why don't you do that for something important right which is achieving your goals another thing that's really important and this comes from the Loretto principle is being able to break down every task into 30 minute chunks and don't allow interruptions and this promotes perseverance and this is a very key concept because it's super important for you to not get distracted and often you know a task doesn't take that long right maybe if you start estimating your task and I've showed that in the template you can estimate your task timing it will only take you maybe an hour an hour and a half that's three chunks of 30 minute times but because normally while you're doing that hour and a half worth of tasks you're on your phone scrolling you know reddit scrolling you know memories of notion templates you're scrolling you know Facebook you're actually wasting your time and not being able to concentrate on the things you want to do so my advice is and what the Preta principle is all about is if you can break down things in this very minute house spend 25 of those minutes actually doing the task very concentrating fully and then spend those five minutes relaxing do five minutes of you know Twitter or Facebook whatever you want to do to enjoy yourself and then get back into it after that five minutes break that's how you can stay motivated and stay focused so this kind of is mixing a lot of different principles in just because I have no research a lot of different ways to maintain productivity not just in my life but also in the companies that work with that I hope to impart unto anybody who can use this template another thing like I want to talk about is gold rewards and that's something I haven't talked about too much yet but the gold essentially can be you know creators of tedious tasks where the rewards may not be obvious can reward scaling gold bounties for completion which promotes urgencies and rewards delivery of hard tasks and why that's important is because you know for that really tedious thing that you might not be so interested in doing it's often quite important if you're able to go about and say hey what if I could actually go and reward myself for a difficulty of this task more productively than something else that's the easier or a bit not as high impact or a bit you know just not as urgent so all these things all come together and again the template will keep in fact or keep in mind all these different things in order to reward you the proper goal bound me forever you're doing and of course milestones achieve for daily routines are also reward goals so promote sticking to good habits um I'm just gonna flip back to the to the oh can I see yeah anybody uh yeah sorry yeah Pomodoro exactly yeah my peridot yeah yeah so if there's no other questions relating to the theory I'll start showing you exactly what you can do with it the first thing I do want to say is that anybody can go out and try this it's open template for everyone so if you just could gain of five Connor at Lynn calm you'll automatically get sense to this my notion what on my notion templates which is the gamification project and you just basically get a bunch of how to's on how this all works and what you can do to get started but of course since I'm walking you through you don't need to do it you don't need to follow blindly by yourself and I'll show you all that to be done um I'll show you my copy now this is the enhanced version which is I improved quite significantly for community and this essentially is kind of an outcome of what you can expect to see so for a gamification leaderboard essentially you can choose to see many people as you want to see and that's something very interesting to me because when I first started this project my idea was that you know I was already very entranced with the idea of building a second brain digitally and I think that came about when I started noticing Thiago Forte's talks online and also is holding about Peres and building a second brain and I was thinking like what if I take that concept further building a second brain for myself is great I can now upload all my memory into a store digital database I don't need to spend my time remembering stuff and I can now use it to process and see patterns which is what the brain is good for I mean for now I mean algorithms will take over someday I'm sure but then I started thinking about like how can I get my entire family to have a second brain but is there a shared second brain right that me my my parents and my siblings we can all have a shared brain work if I have best practices and I've learned something I can pass it to them my parents have decades of experience over me how can they pest pass it to me right one thing that they shared with me I was over a back home for the holidays of this break was that they were quite worried that since you know all my siblings are now leaving the nest right my sister is just about to graduate from high school go to university that they don't have any more chances to teach us right we're all going to be so far away from home and they don't have that much chance to speak to us anymore and pass knowledge so I was like well what if there was this right what if there's notion and we can alter our best practices of what we've learned in life right we can share things with one another because you're progressions you can see what we've recently been winning at and we can cheer each other on right obviously we have those without checkers we have those telegram chat groups but what is going to help us make context in there instead of just saying hey you know I finished this today we can actually see a live scrolling database of things we've accomplished recently and we can all celebrate our wins together and on top of that you know of interesting templates like you know the meal planner how can my parents and my grandparents share their recipes with me so that we can all work on them together so really interesting stuff like that is what notion has enabled for me and one part of that is the this leaderboard here where it's practical for families to be able to be involved in each other's lives it's practical for corporation for companies who want to see like you know who's doing well and the company who's been achieving win after win who's a bit stuck in might need some help right the whole point of having daily scrums is that you're able to voice out what's impending you what's stopping you from doing the things you want to achieve and if we all have our goals very clearly lined up for us and we all have exactly the tasks that we're all supposed to do and we all have the wins that we're seeing for each other that's where I see that you can never have a very transparent community I'm a very transparent company and be able to help each other in times of need because that's what we're all here for I really like that it just made me think about - even if anyone here has like a mastermind group right even a small group of four or five six people what a neat idea to have a kind of shared brain amongst a group of people - because like you said we always kind of see where we're at currently and we forget all the things that we did up to now we sort of forget all like we keep moving the goalposts right we keep like resetting our goal - the next thing we kind of forget that there was a time when we wanted what we have right now so I think that's that's just such a neat concept I think to kind of mastermind a brain together with a group of people or a boot camp yeah exactly Maria so diving a bit into this so I just wanted to show you an idea of all the formulas that go into here so basically I keep track of the expe burn I also do a little formula to see you know where the X P is going to start subtracting from to your next level I walk through all these in detail depending on where people want to see the detail from but essentially these all pull from tags and this again from Murray's wonderful idea of having a master tax database is that I have a master key my vacation tags database I open that up in the new window so I can have you side back side and show you but essentially you can see that so this person has five minute tasks that are awarded to them 25 minute tasks big wins and these are huge wins a rocket just means huge so if I go into here and I see the gamification tags you'll see that everybody's tags are now stored here and I've description for them but everybody has five minute ask which is part of just task 25 minutes has big wins huge wins and everybody has basic speeds that are assigned to that if I change the basis for base gold essentially the multiplier will be if I ever finish 825 minute ask then my excutive will change so the idea of this is that everything can be fully customized there's no lockdown on what works for me versus what works for you it's about it's really all about what works for you and you can feel free to change anything you want which again I think is the power of notion so you can also even select like what's your award your gold or not and for me like I said big wins you know huge wins their key results and goals right if you remember they shouldn't award you gold there you know well rewarded as it is once you finish yeah so so of course then you want to know like where do these all pull from right where is the success plan so to speak that's pulling all this information so let me pull out one of my templates which is the be intentional template and let's open up the success plan so essentially a one-off one also one thing I do want to also note is that when you're thinking about the goals and the key results you're generally in a founder mindset and you can kind of think about it like you know you're at a company and the founder or the CEO is saying hey I want to be the best into this industry what does it mean for me to be the best I want to hire 10 of the best people I want to get a million dollars in revenue this quarter I want to you know I want to promote five new people to be peas I don't know right but essentially the founder comes in and says this is what a high-level thing we want like why we want it and these are know what it means to want those things right and generally that's the founder mindset I think you should also have one for yourself too is because more often than not we spend our times thinking too much about executing it not enough about planning and of course some people might have the opposite problem right but so that's why I think like as a founder mindset you should do this once every two weeks so you should really take yourself every two weeks and essentially you see that these are basically all the areas life that you want to improve on right and for me I have nine you know lifestyle health mindset people to share finances knowledge etc and essentially I would nap out all my different goals in all the different quarters based on what I want to accomplish in that timeframe and of course is just demo data so I have not that much here but you can see the idea and this is the goal and this would be the key results and I have a formula that automatically shows two things the one thing is that this is shows a label so one very important aspects of using a formula is that you can surface data that previously were from different properties so if I open this up you'll see that each one of those properties are in a different space tags is here we have impacts over here and then we have the q4 is actually a tie recorder which is again calculated from the dates actually so it's not even them I don't I don't even put the quarter and I just put it dates and all couple it the quarter for me and that's help from Alex for Al Sherwood a notion year and so there's there's a lot of interesting difference formulas as you can see that work for each thing but the most interesting thing is that you can have the same formula property show something different in a different view so let me show you what that means so as I mentioned when you're looking at the key results and the goals you're kind of looking to founder mindsets but I also want to talk about the management mindsets as a manager so assume that you're the manager in the company right and you got the high level goal of saying hey boss wants to make a million dollars as a quarter oh my god what do I do right so then you start thinking about well I definitely need sales right I definitely need marketing I might need to email campaign right I mean and we need to add campaign as well you start thinking of all these different projects that you're working on in order to achieve that outcome that everyone's trying to accomplish and then so as a manager that's your responsibility to make sure that is the is the outcome smart is the outcome specific measurable attainable time-based is it going to be a and realm in relation to the greater while what you're trying to do and then you figure out are these progress corrects are these different projects in one zag we should be working on and should be experimenting on to make sure it works and no don't get me wrong like these things can change like they're projects that you're working on can always come and we change depending on what you need to get done maybe at first we thought you might use Facebook ads but then you realize that most of your customers live on Google and you want to do SEM instead right and so the project is a place for you to keep on churning it yeah I can show you all these views in here but I actually have a very interesting and more beautiful layout in somewhere I call on deck which is and I'll show you where that is let me open that up so here I'm going into or use so essentially like I live my life in three views because I don't want to always go into the nitty-gritty of the full of the full database every time I need to do something so what's important for me is that I have three different views depending on what I need to do on that contains everything I have to do to achieve my goals Daley's contains anything maintenance related or reflection etc and dashboards contains any items I'm going to look at at least once a day so I have my own set frequencies of when that's important to me so I don't get lost in the complexity of notion that's one thing that lucky will tell me is that whole notion seems so hard it's so complex not really because you have the option of being able to surface any data that you need a surface when you need a surface it's so I think the hardest part is making your own system and knowing what your own habits need to be right just like you did daily every morning like to make that for yourself if you're not very experienced I think that can feel intimidating but that's why it's nice to see examples like yourself of like here's here's a starting point to follow yeah admittedly yours is pretty advanced but I think it's still like a really great starting point for people to download into their account and just kind of see how the connections are working mm-hmm exactly yeah and I'll go back to the first thing I said like this is just a way single the best way for you and if your best way you know has some similarities to how I think about things then all the power please see what you can learn from me right so I'm just back to the idea of like founder and manager and project manager essentially like what you're doing here is like you can see all your goals in q1 q2 q3 right and scroll on and it's exactly the same view but just a bit more focused you can see what you're trying to accomplish and you can see how this is very effective for company so I use this for my company as well and maybe I'll show you a bit of that later but as my company we have I think seven or eight areas that we care about and we have so many goals for each of them right that's because we're we have more resources and for those kind of scenarios that it makes sense that you might want to sort right you might want to sort by impact right so the things are more higher impacting but when I'm focusing first I normally also sort by the time but because they're all just q1 there's no time base but you'll see four key results India and the rest I also sort by time to so if you look at here results essentially like you can have very strong filters to say hey if I'm a lot of key results I'm looking yet and maybe I want to filter only by everything that's upcoming a week from now so I know that these are the things I need a focus on or if you'd like being visual and seeing calendar you can change it to a calendar view as well you can see everything that's laid out for you again just how much data here because it's all examples I don't want you to go crazy having to delete everything I've done just to make sure you alright so but actually like you see that okay so this is very important right this semi-high big win thing um this is the exact same property as this but I removed the quarter because I don't really care about the quarter that this is doing I care more about how like the specific date I have to finish this by so you can do if statements inside your formula so that for the same property you don't you don't have to show you can show come something completely different based on what kind of item it is and I because this item is the keys I'm gonna show you bit formula I mean I shouldn't talk so like you see here right so basically I have the if statement here push Marquez and if statements is that if the type is a goal then I'll talk then I'll move show information lead to a target order if it's not then I'll show something else so essentially that's how I formulate this I have a question for you on that you do you like right your formulas inside the formula window or do you type it out in a different text editor okay depends how complex it is like this one I'll agree here because yeah it kind of validates my code that's the best thing about it the type I can just press time you know validated for me but for something like this so I built this like before everyone started building out their there in the progress bars so I admittedly use a more complex method I think I think Ben Ben had a very interesting way to use spicing that made a lot simpler but for this one I definitely had to use like notepad plus plus in order to like just write it there guess unfortunately the in builds template editor I've been built some formula editor has a little bug when you start typing too many formulas in there yeah right right but yeah so essentially like so as as the manager you'd be saying hey you know these are the key results that boss man wants me to accomplish therefore these are the projects that I might want to work on and they start building on it and they start again seeing the things that Phineas iam you see you can see that but my formula for saying things are how many days ago how many days late they're all baked in automatically so that depending on the date so let's say I have a change the states right changes target day to let's say next week on to 15th then instantly you see that change to seven days to go so it's all very dynamic and again the downstream of this would be the tasks so as a project manager this is where you start thinking about things right your project manager you're generally the domain experts right you know exactly when they speak done if it's a ad campaign that you need to know hey you know we need to start sign up for accounts on Facebook we need to start crafting the ad contents we need to start testing with maybe only you know a dollar should you see us make my big expensive maybe fifty cents right then you just keep on testing and testing and testing and you find what works for you and then you think okay that's the project we're going to focus on and then you build up towards everything else but as the project manager one thing that's also quite interesting to think about is that this is something you do every day this is your execution stage right so a recap founder think about it every two weeks just my manager think about it every week right so rethink your projects every week and then as an executioner as your project manager you want to just really be executing every single day so you see that I have essentially sorted all these by a few things some things are the impact values some things are the pachoo allottee some things are the gold rewards and let me kind of walk you through that so the concept here that I want you to take away is that when you're looking at this it's almost like a quest list in a game and that's and that's my design is because when you see things that you need to do and you see that how urgent they are you see how rewarding they're going to be and you see how impactful they might be to your progression that's the key points that I found that motivates me to me for me to do things so when I open this up right and the gold value I don't calculate it all by myself it's actually all calculated from the gamification tax here because I said well if it's gonna be a 25-minute task I wanted to be fifty gold but on top of that right if it's going to be if it's difficulty levels of one that means I expected to be one chunk of 25-minute time and therefore it's only gonna net me 50 gold if I changes to it - I just want to show you immediately that changes a 100 if I change to a 3 it changes to 150 so all these things are calculated because I have formulas on determining what those multipliers should be and on top of that what's important is having the impact right and for me impact is relative and you can think of it like this if you have three items servicing an upstream let's say three tasks for the same in upstream it's up to you to define what's high-impact and what's not high-impact and this is important for you to think about because you know you need a prioritize in your life you can't spend your time on low like high effort low impact items so this is a way for me to kind of just conceptualize easily just from the gold value how impactful it is for me to do it right now and what can I put off to later if there's something to put off but again I don't really recommend putting off anything but that's one of the ideas there um I'm gonna flip back to the questions I see there's any q and A's they're just a couple that popped in I don't know how relevant they are to the formulas but we can we can kind of address them one person asked how much time on average do you spend maintaining and updating the gamification project okay that's a really easy question to answer I actually covered this when I was talking to TI go on Monday was that I don't spend now much time at all it's surprising but not much time at all because everything any improvements I do to it okay hello this let me give you two answers the first answer is any time I spend on this I do value it as Rd because I see this as helping more than just myself because my parents are public I can help my family I can help my friends I can help my community every time I have a new insights I do this so actually if I was to spend more time on this I wouldn't mind because I just see that there's greater downstream effects for everyone else I'd say probably not you probably want to spend a little kind of fossil maintaining but again the beauty of like people that are following my projects is that they can just learn from what I'm doing and all my improvements are pushing out every week so I think that's like a benefit of having like it down being downstream of someone who's actively working on the project like this but my second answer to this is that I probably spend like four hours a week it's not much and the four hours is actually including time I'm just working on things because let's say I'm working on something and I might even show you a live example later I'm surely live example now okay so this is something I've implemented in my personal setup already but I've been implemented under the public version but um one interesting thing I have in my dashboard and I'm skipping a few things I wanted to show but anyway one thing I have in my - what was don't make the same mistake twice and it's a funny thing hi I'm uh I think when I started I showed this to my family they're like you're a masochist for sure like and you're happy to see all these things like the surface but essentially what it is is that every single day I kind of report to myself like where things I did wrong today right what are you like three to five things I did wrong and one of the things that I would like to and it's important that I think about that because then I can only start thinking about things I can do right but my thing is that for me when I write those things down I will surface them in my dashboard so that I don't forget that those are wrong so because I look at it like at least twice a day I'm like oh that I did that wrong okay this week I definitely shouldn't do that anymore but one thing that I did was that well I started getting big right I started becoming like bigger and bigger if I'm having five things a day then you know a week becomes 35 things so and you start filtering right so I was like okay so what should I filter by well I don't have a date created property maybe I should have one of those right so I'm like okay well let me add a creative property in because notion already has something very nice about that I have a creative time right and I can call it they create it now now that I have a date creative property and I can say well I want to filter by they created and I want to say is on or after last week so when we ago so now I can see only things that were I did wrong up to last week which is important because you don't want to see things too much but another thing is that the whole idea of this is that I don't want to make the same mistake twice okay so what does it mean to make something twice so then I started I started I started thinking about okay well maybe I just want to add a small improvements here and this is also very easy to do and so I'm gonna try to show you my process because it doesn't take that much time and it becomes very intuitive at least for me when I'm working through all this so for example now let me just open this up so don't make the same mistake twice is a relational database here right and let's say I add one more here so now there's two items that are apparently I made the same mistake twice for example right so let me open this up and I'll see that this is the figure database all right one second yeah and you'll see that I have this right and for dates you see that there's two dates here that now have this so I'll just add a rollup here I'll add a rollup and I'll say based on the date I want to count values okay all as you say so I now see number of times so basically I'd made mistake twice now here comes the fun part right I want to show things I've made the same mistake twice all the time so I remembered not to make it three times oh yeah the dashboard right now I can say hey I want a filter or things number of times is equal to or greater than 2 now I see that surfaced that's the whole idea behind that like I think it's very intuitive once you start thinking about things that I mean this kind of improvement so when you want five minutes not even right and I did alive and I think it's okay one can try doing one so sue - I love that because in my daily journal I do a roll up into the week and I have you know my gratitude things like I can do better and lows and challenges and now you're making me wonder does that need to be a database instead of a text field you know to be able to see a list of all the things I can do better or I think it's really interesting to be able to surface it in that in that way another thing like since you mentioned that Marie like I had this seen struggle - honestly I was like okay what about these things should be text items right they for example like these things like definitely additions like text items right like they're there's items on this like what I feel touching anything no right yeah what I feel good what I do today that I feel good about you know that might be a text item but I started thinking like what what do I want to see analytics lot right and making mistakes definitely I want to see analytics on that and things I'm grateful for that's also things I want to made a separate database for because I like to have a shared database between myself and my family about things were grateful for I mean it's just say I will for us so every day we just count you know ten blessings saying that that kind of helps us orientate ourselves about you know what happened in our day and what what happen if acun in our day enough so that we were grateful for that and I think that's something I really enjoy that's really neat I like the idea of having a gratitude database that you can look at I mean even with my my three words I went back at the end of the year and I did a Kanban board that summarized all the different words so I can see like which word did I use the most in the year one or like the top three words that kept showing up over and over again and to me that's that's just really interesting I think to look back and see how happy was I overall like you could actually see these numbers and sort of see what the connections are maybe between your effectiveness and your gratitude or productivity and it's just really interesting yeah that's exactly right and one thing about effectiveness - like I'm working on this I haven't figured out just yet just thinking back on my mind is that normally when I do my daily reflection right and this is the UM this is the template version so I don't have why shows but I also surface everything I've accomplished that day because again my success plan is all here all right it's all very visible so it's very simple for me to just surface like everything in terms of everything I've achieved both in work and at home right but also things I've you know Spence on so I have a finance tracker as well so I like to track every single sense I use so I also track that out and then I kind of use that as a gauge to say hey how effective was that really right but I'm also thinking about ways to say hey how can that be automatic right so I don't have to consciously add that on into my effectiveness credits driven yeah right yeah and I think you you it seems like you have enough data that you could very easily make that change you could make some tweaks to make that possible that's interesting another question came up from Chris I'm interested in learning what was your thought process in implementing this gamification concept I wouldn't know where to begin if I were to create the system or come up with my own system if I didn't want to rely on templates thought process in what way because I did mention a bit of I guess motivation behind it but maybe I could be a bit clearer about what this vest specifically you're asking about like yeah Chris I don't know if you want to add any clarifying questions in there but it because it does sound like as a founder as an entrepreneur working with teams like you you've been kind of drawn to and curious about productivity and effectiveness and kind of what draws people to be their most effective selves right so that's I guess I can I can sort of see your influences there and wanting to make your notion space a little bit more gamified and do that so yeah I'm not sure well anyway like moving forward like I send somewhere here I didn't want to show something interesting is that you know another part of gamification is rewarding small wins like I mentioned right so in my perspective like there's kind of two tiers to finishing your daily quest so to speak let me first actually talk about daily quests cause daily quest is the interesting concept to me cuz I observed time and time again right people that especially when I was in university people that had lines like tomorrow right and ten hours it would still spend the time to log on to their favorite game and do their daily quests because oh my daily quest is gonna expire in 30 minutes if I don't do it I'll lose all my progression right or I wouldn't get that amazing treasure box at the end of the day so and I think I'm really thinking like people are willing to throw away their life's future for an imaginary pixels what if I make those imaginary pixels you're like future and in that actual you know that you're gonna oh my god I can't do this tomorrow right so my idea here is that okay meditating every single day is the only way you're gonna get good at meditating meditating once a month or once a year you're not gonna get anywhere so I treat it as a daily resource if you can't do it every single day you're actually missing out if you can't exercise every day you're missing out if you can't you know eat healthy drink healthy if you can't you know the personal development every day that's one day of productivity that you're missing and if you orientate your mind this way like in that game of Byway like for me it changed everything it changed the way I thought of all the things that I thought were mundane and boring into like oh my god is the scarce resource I did it often right and as I finished these items you see that my my tractor actually goes up in completion right if I ate breakfast and eating breakfast is important to me so let's say you know open you or something like that had plus fruits then that also goes up as well so every item in here has a corresponding value of how important it is for me to finish and as and again all customizable all up to you right and as I finished and I hit over 70 oh hey I at least fulfilled that first benchmark of completing at least a majority of my daily quest right and everything else is extra and again if you've ever played games before and I gonna move them across to well but yeah you'll know that this is something right there's always those many to request that you do and then those issuer ones that will just give you an item or yeah the side quests that give you a bit more umph over your competitors who are all the other gamers right so again that's the way I think about I'm like okay if I hit 70 I'm at least through my duty to be good to myself and to progress in my life if I hit a hundred I'm actually better than everybody else that's doing only 70% that's that's the way I kind of motivate myself in order to say hey that's where I want to go from here can I ask in the formula side of that like do each of those have like how do you decide I guess you know meditating is that is that the same points as exercise or writing or in your formula have you actually kind of given those different weighted properties I guess yeah so to start I haven't done that just because I do treat everything as quite the same one thing I did you know so let me show what I did do is that I'm at 72 percent right now right and if I fill a and you can just track it on here this left side if I fill this out it actually goes up to 73 and I fill this up it goes to 74 so uh actually I'm gonna do one more thing be happy like goes up to 74 that's what I want to do tomorrow that's high leverage but essentially like I decided that my reflections like all together they should equal to around I think 8% first is done each item being individually obvious all these things are just part of my reflections right all these things are just part of the reflections I need to reflection is one item so in my in my in my formulas I do defined that differently and I can walk through that formula in a second as well but essentially everything up here is the same just because I don't have any specific ways but you could choose to change it I mean it's very easy like I've a multiplier essentially just changes everything to a number don't be worried about all these things being a little bit look complex but they're not it's just like every property plus every properly plus every property plus every property and then eventually like I'll have the sum of all the numbers and then I'll just divide by the total number of items I I care about which is 17 here and it's just a reminder too that I know some of this might seem really intimidating but again you if you kind of download the gamification project you can add the page into your notion space you can you can click on those formulas just to even see what it looks like I've definitely done that with some complex formulas where I'm like I don't really know how to do this but I see that this works in this space I'm gonna extrapolate a little bit and kind of just copy paste a couple pieces that work so if you don't necessarily want to use the whole system you can at least learn a little bit about kind of seeing how other people's formulas are set up and kind of cut and paste and practice a little bit in your own space it takes a bit of time but you know thank you for for sharing it so general generously with us so that we can kind of see what's actually happening behind the scenes know and like you can start simple so like my my whole thing like I have complex things and I have simple things right I actually didn't build the complex things just now but I mean if you want something really simple just start thinking about formulas unless like he's fighting this he's like watering your plants and that's something that you might need to do like only three times a week right so so first let me explain this so here is like your weekly maintenance tasks your weekly quests that don't necessarily need to be done every day but they might be things that you want to do you know three times a week five times a week etc so what I have is I have - there's two important formulas that you might want to care about here one thing that I define is that how many times per week I want to do this and then I start calculating well okay so my completion is going to be again I'm just adding the check boxes of every single number so the - number just means that if I check this off it will count as one two three whatever right so as I added it just counts a number and then my percentage is how many times I checked it divided by how many times a week I wanted to do it so let's say if I checked off Sunday Monday and Tuesday then I'm finished huh I'm all done 100% and again you see an example here a very simple example of what you can do with formulas to set labels for yourself so that it's nice and pretty when you finish and you can feel that endorphin boost and you know feel happy about yourself but let's say I change the time to read before right and again very simple then I become 75% but I'm not done yet I'll finish it up then it comes complete I can get to five right then complete again so this is a very very simple formula you can get started with to start thinking about you know what are the things that you might want to keep track and what are the things that you might want to use a formula to help you make it a bit more smarter and I let's say there's a few classes of formulas that a few use cases the formulas that you can use the first use case that you see me use a lot you see music here you see me use it here is labels I love being able to see custom labels on just I finish and I think Marie feels exactly the same way one thing I do wish is that I can also control CSS so I can control like maybe this whole rule becomes highlighted green oh yeah background color yeah so that that's something I'm looking forward to if that's ever but like for me this is a way for me to visualize things I'm done cuz it'll be really boring let me just show you like let's say I hide this right this is really boring for me I don't know why progression on this at all I don't know if I finished anything I don't know if I should finish more it's just super boring and the second thing a worried mom that kind of surfaces that I think there's this one no its remaining so it's this one then I can see exactly like where I'm at this and I can see like the big alarm signs if I haven't finished it yet and same things are here right I'm a zero percent it's quite obvious that I haven't done anything here right in this example template so be motivated to go and do that example of formulas is to calculate the completions so as I shown before the calculation is quite simple you just need to show the two number for each checkbox and then basically counts as one and you add them all together and then you have a formula that divides everything by the total number and then times one hundred and then you have a presentation right super super easy and another interesting thing about that too that you might want to think about is you can do this for anything that you want to keep track so inline daily quest example I even wanted to keep track of the food I want to eat and if I really want to be complex I can say that it's a specific kind of food I've reward myself and if it's not a specific not reward myself that's a bit complex I wouldn't say I wouldn't go there but that's something you could do right yeah yeah as simple or as complex as you as you want it to be yeah there was a question that came in about roll up so Chris was asking can you explain the concept of roll ups I read about what they are an ocean support page but I still don't understand what they are and why I would want to use them oh yeah I love explaining rules because they're the most fun thing and there's fun yeah yeah they're really fun and I think like a lot of people who don't have a concept of data base before would have a tough time understanding it so let me explain it and you understand so I have a section in my dashboard where I plan out all my meals for the week of it and essentially I have this meals relation database and it goes towards my recipe box right and let me just open that up for you guys to see how the holy spent view looks like so my recipe box I have all the recipes that I have and I'm I open it up actually I can actually see like I have ingredients dialing to the directions you know just information that I need to actually cook the dish Tripathi so what's important to me though is that when I select this mule item from my database let's say on Sunday I want to eat no banana bread as well as Greek yogurt and let me just expand this a bit so you can see I'll wrap the cell so you can see that it's more than one item in there right so bad bread and Greek yogurt so this is a rollup this is bringing in properties of that item which is lives in the other database into a property of this database this table and why that's important why that's useful I'll show you two examples one is less powerful than the other one the less powerful example is this less powerful example is that hey you know I want to know if it's a breakfast or some treats so then I know that hey I also need to add a lunch in there I might also want to add a dinner in there right so I can keep adding more loans maybe on some soup in etc oh and something interesting about this template as well is that I actually cared this recipe box with my family so whenever we have any improvements to shared family recipes we can add in there and we can also see where who's eating what's anytime so if my mom wants to see hey in Singapore are you eating well you know that's nothing I'm always asked I cook good soup the other day right database right and living it I mean it's a closer as a family I would say that's something that honestly I would say it's a huge plus to doing something like this um another example which is the more powerful one that might you might need to wrap your mind around is you see that I have a grocery list here on the right so something very interesting about this grocery is that it's magic if I take up an end of bread here and I'll peel banana bread here as well all my items for banana bread magically disappear because I'm not eating anything with banana bread anymore and therefore none of my grocery ingredients I don't need a buy anything that relates to Ventana bread anymore and this can only happen because I'm filtering based on a roll up so that makes so let me open this up to its full maximum and you'll see an understanding of it so basically here and let me is also a filter let me just open one of the items up essentially I have a whene item in here and this one comes from this table of this table that says when and I say okay so this week on Sunday I'm gonna eat Greek yogurt with fruits right and if I open up that Greek yogurt with fruit so let's say oats wonder and read isn't there you'll see that on Sunday on Wednesday on a Thursday I'm going to eat that so if I have a roll up that says hey whenever that roll up property is not empty then I want to show it I want to feel I want to filter out I want to show that information and then I can start saying hey what's actually in my fridge right if I already have assorted nuts in my fridge ultimate forage then I don't need to see it in my dashboard right so I'm not a filter on here it says it purchased is empty because obviously if I'm at the grocery store I don't need to see everything that I might need to buy I just need to see the things I need to buy right the things I don't already have at home so this is a very like I would say very powerful use of a rollup where you're able to really filter out the things that you want to see and filter out the things that you need and in this example we can filter out the groceries that you're actually planning to eat sand that you actually need to eat you need to buy the router because all the things you're putting in here and you'll see that if I add back to Nana bread or anything else that's a breakfast burrito okay now that will also load out everything as well if I don't already have those items in there let me see so let me sometimes you might want to refresh just because I have a lot of items in here or you can just change it you but yeah yeah so you can see some of the items came up that released her breakfast burrito I mean 30 'la I need a sweet potatoes I need black beans stuff like that so that's another use case of they roll up that you can use another great use case - something I've been doing recently is bringing in a sales database so if I make sales on Gumroad I actually have a rollup but that's connected to my daily journal and then so for every day week and month I can see a rollup from the sales database that actually shows me like what is the what is the total that I earned that day that week that month and it's all pulling from a sales database so there's so many interesting ways that you can do that depending on what information you want to surface but yeah you can kind of pull in those numbers and use them in formulas and do all sorts of interesting things yeah like I can't even show you something so let me just I I wasn't going to show this but since you mentioned that since you asked yeah I have a I have a I want to show on deck for myself and let's scroll down into here this content so this is one of my content workflows okay and this is essentially some of the things I've been working on I in terms of like what I want to essentially talk about Nick's right so let's say I am a gamification full launch I have a lot of integrations I'm adding in and let's say I have a relation to messaging modules and this is a really fun template I'm or 'old from them I don't have the name of them right now but they shared it on on the notion subreddit I thought was amazing so I they're the ideas are amazing so I'll say okay let me think about that so essentially like I can say well what part of what what kind of message am i sending what is the storyline here right and my storyline for gamification is definitely being productive so I put being productive I also are actually making work fun I think making work fun it's the more adequate one and then I can also say well who is it for well I definitely think it's for growth money individuals I also think it's for corporate businesses and let's say it's a free notion template so I'm giving that right and also letter storyline is to communication projects so I now have a lot of roll-on/roll-off that's showing all this infirmary based on what I had said it is and I also have a role that says what content they suggest it should be because I worry defined in this messaging module for this for this kind of lenss for this kind of audience for this kind of content type of this kind of storyline what I what kind of content resonates best for this information and for this example it's a template so I'm watching a template size perfectly fine and I have other examples that would be like um another thing that I did for my workspace which unfortunately I don't and showing you that's a bit private life or work why did was because I have some new interns joining right and they are not completely familiar with our entire content launch strategy I actually have something that says ok if the suggested content and the type of content that they chose is not the same it was sure big X and they'll say not the same content oh so that's that's a very interesting formula you can you can use to actually structure and guide people that aren't familiar with your set up in order to user set up properly so this is again why have a sop a standard operating procedure documents teaching people what things that they should be doing versus just saying hey you know if you've done something wrong just show that you've done something wrong hey I think we follow the instructions no one's gonna follow that right so that's something interesting that we're signing of course it's so nerdy but so practical I love it that's really cool yeah it's not that's what the example is there too let's see there's any other questions I'm really excited at these things yeah let me know it there's a couple questions here but if anyone else has anything that has popped up as a result of this please definitely add your question Chris was saying this concept seems so complicated to implement a notion how do you figure out how to make your your concept work oh that's that's kind of tricky because I mean again you can like pull Conrad's examples into your own space and start to play with it a little bit but you probably have to have a pretty good grasp of notions functionality to know kind of where and how to copy and paste and kind of start to make it work but you have to be willing to play a little bit I think and treat it like a bit of a playground yeah like I think it's part like passion like if you're excited to like over-engineer your life like I am and I think that's something you might like there's like I have a lot of people in my community like I started they recently started at a community that's revolving around growth learning and just you know constant improvement within all of us and for our community like I have people in there that are really not that interested in you know they're taking on every bit and piece of their life rather practicality right what works for them you know they enjoy my template because I've already built it up for them they just need to do some minor tweaks to make it work for them and I say again all the power to you right and if you really do feel empowered like I think you're mentioning you want to build your own templates I think that's great I mean you can start visualizing what you really want start small so yeah what I initially started with and I kind of want to show like why I started with because I do want to show that it's not like it's not rocket science I think it's something that you can figure out right um so this success plan started off with Alex Sherwood okay ours if you believe it or not and essentially his template was super simple to understand which was just hey set your yet one database for your for your outcomes another database for key results and another database for tasks and then he just linked them up through relations and then you can start pulling from there but it was just basic stuff like none of these formulas and everything and it was over time that I figure out my own needs like I I need to see I want to be intentional right so I'm going to see how my poncho ality is I want to see the impact score so I can start using the Eisenhower method and start you know comparing things our impact versus effort no deadlines and then I started thinking about you know I want someone to see you know things are ready to start I'm not ready to start I'm going to filter by those things I don't want to see a whole list of things that aren't ready to start yet that I haven't proven therefore that it's just gonna call my mindset when I'm working on things right I want to see things are clean and crisp and that's kind of close on the idea of how it going down to inbox zero like I like to go down to to do miss zero right so everything at the end of day like I've completed and I'm happy with and I feel productive and I feel motivated to move on to my next day yeah that's awesome yeah yeah and the right thing to like just sushi okay so this is like just a I'm like I can't go in the oh I'm sorry but like I this is basically like the the homepage I have setup for my company right so basically like for companies that really make sense for me at least where we all have one brain right we all know exactly what everyone else is knowing so we don't lose sight of what we're trying to do and we don't lose sight of what we're trying to complete at anytime so we all know these are the nine there are the seven things that we care about all right these are we have a scrum board for developers we have our on deck for everyone to filter by their own specific tasks that they need to do every single day we have a leaderboard that shows everyone in the company know how will I do in resources that we're sharing like any resources basically reading and we want to pass on to everyone else you know what's ready to start reading like what are things that we should be reading that we haven't read yet right so those are the things that like I think is really important when you start working in a in a community or at least in the in a shared space and of course go for yourself all the examples I did previously are for yourself right you want to make sure that you are as efficient as you could be and as you continuously progress through your life you want to just think about things that you can constantly improve on and for me one of those ways that I'm improving myself is I'm just thinking about these kind of ways where I have more frameworks to be more intentional achieve my goals and essentially find more meaning in what I do every day any other couples small ones that came in one person was asking about is it possible to export or share dates on a master calendar to a Google Doc or Google or iCal format and I'm curious maybe how you manage your tasks versus your calendar and kind of how you deal with I guess notions lack of a UI potentially I'd be happy to explain that so let me show you this this is a bit cold but let me show you this um so this is actually derived from one of my from one of my own schedules it's changed by now but essentially like I kind box 30-minute chunks of my day every single 30-minute chunks and that's a bit crazy I don't have but I would suggest it to keep in mind so you can be intentional like I wouldn't say that you have to say specifically 7:15 I got a do that thing but I would say that once you start something remember to end in those thirty minutes so why I mean by that is let's say for example I say that let's say because I work a few time zones I work with a Canadian team at nights and also in the morning so I usually get to the Singapore office around 10:00 so I have two hours to start thinking about everything that I need to do so I like to spend the first 30 minutes catching up on all the difference all the different emails that I haven't been looking at and I want to get it done the inbox or I want to make sure in 30 minutes I've cleared out every email caught up with every single person I wanted to catch up you know every missed call every single thing I've done in 30 minutes then I start planning out my meetings or the meetings I'm going to work on or the different meetings I I'm I'm I'm going to be doing and then I start and then the last hour to 30 minute chunks I'm gonna start planning my day what do I need to do one of the meetings I need to go to you know what what already on deck items right what are these things that I need to do to accomplish my goals off of work and then so those are things I schedule so for me my daily calendar are like my Google Cal is specifically only going to say hey between 10:30 to 12:30 I'm not gonna hold any meetings and I may only hold meetings between 136 right so I'm very specific with my time and if I'm gonna have any social activities it must be between six and nine during a weekday right so that's how I kind of structure my life like unfortunately I don't like to I can give you an answer on integrating notion look how I know there's plugins and it guys to do that I can link some of them later I have some friends working on those um but I would say that for me like it's a lot simplified because I've already set up structures in my day-to-day life that I'm going to be doing something specific and I don't want any disruptions on anything else so therefore I don't need to worry about schedules clashing because I already know that what I'm going to be doing at that time period something sense yeah I think so I mean you know I use my calendar for like book you know booked calls or specific events or whatever and I kind of do a review of my calendar and but like you like I'm still working inside of notion for most of most of my day or most of my time as I'm like tracking tasks and stuff so I think there are ways to do it but some of it involves some habit change and of course everyone's calendaring and task management is a little bit different depending on your type of business or if you're using notion for business or personal but this is really interesting just to see the way you've kind of time blocked your schedule like that yeah and I think someone asked me about the time boxing schedule yeah I actually I have a template for this so basically this is one of the pages for my community and I it's communities Hall for accessories of sense for co-creation collaboration and community and essentially all the templates I kind of briefed over or I went in detail on are found here I also have a bunch of things are in progress I'm working on like you know family dashboard so I set something up for my family that was really cool where we can throw our own announcement so you can put our recently completed items and we have like a kind of like a smart TV in the living room so I find it like put that on the Smart TV so that everyone can just see everything that is needed done and then I'm also working on like an eight-pack integration where something is done you can send notification to everybody right so I think that's pretty cool as well so it's almost like it's almost like a shared space for your family to really connect with each other also a company starter so like I worked I showed you a bit of the things I've been experimenting on the company on my company so hopefully that once I've got that down pat I can share that with everyone as well content creation I just shoot a bit of that you know how I innovate it there and I thought a market fit I think everyone's talking about that like if you ever start business it's really important to find that and I kind of just put my best practices along with an old since about practices into a one space and built out specific templates that help you find Prada market fit so that's also quite interesting that I've been working on so yeah so this is where you can find all the templates we usually update stuff once a week yeah I say very cool a quick question that came in from Alex was have you tried doing this in any other tool was notion your first or only choice okay so I started this in ocean as I mentioned because I found out that you can change properties and that's something I couldn't do anywhere else until I know but then I would say like I don't be flexible like I know a lot people are switching over from Evernote or switching over from coda a lot of difference other options out there yeah I don't want you to be worried about this glitch like that's something that I want to say like it's it's daunting to split your entire workflow process especially if you've already spent like years in the specific tool I say smart small that's really my track device I and and if you really know the press this is and principles of being productive you can really do it anywhere I've done I've seen people who became insanely productive and seeing me successful and they I asked them to success and they say I just write down things on paper and I'm like yeah that's me your beer for bastok right this is another tool but I do want to say like um I am looking into integrations with like various other tools to see how they can all bring together the classification I think you know there's a lot of interesting tools coming up if you guys are looking into anything else there is a lot of things but I would say right now notion is really one of my best choices I mentioned a lot of reasons why you adjust your properties you can adjust abuse I think views is one of the most awful things if you like it in a calendar view for someone else likes it in the list view someone else likes it in the table view you can all do it right I put yeah yeah this is incredibly fascinating interesting useful I think it's just really cool to see behind the scenes of kind of how you made it and you know I've seen the templates but it's it's just so different I think to see you go through it in a little bit more detail kind of here's why I did this and here's why I'm thinking about this so I'd love to hear from any folks in the sidebar if you've already downloaded Conrad's gamification project into your space and if you've had a chance to mess around with it or if you think you might actually do it I want to see if there's anybody that's intrigued and hopefully not too terrified about playing playing with this in your space so let us know if this was valuable and useful and Conrad what's the best way for people to kind of get in touch and get more what URL should we send people to yeah I mean like if you're interested in the templates I would say you can go to my website you can go to Connor at Lynn comm / Co accessory codex tree or extreme Carlin dot-com also leads to here but essentially like just introducing the community a little bit like we are we are excited to welcome anybody who's interested in innovating if you have a growth mindset or you want to build a growth mindset and you're really interested in things like this we welcome you to open arms I think we have a very fun Dischord community as well online where we just kind of debates and chat about all things growth learning and productivity so if you're interested all that stuff definitely come to this page and sign up for the community you get an invite to our descript group and you can check us out I'm also on YouTube where I explain some of these templates a little bit in detail as well I definitely recommend you check that video I hope those videos out I also have a very interesting concept about being intentional I think that's very interesting for you guys to check out as well so yeah yeah I've really loved loved your content it's been really cool to see you know I feel like there's there's a lot of resonance in that intentionality and designing your space on purpose and so it's just really nice to kind of just get really nerdy with someone else who is also equally nerdy and getting just you know again pushing just pushing the boundaries of what's possible in your notion space to be as effective and introspective as possible so it's it's really interesting to see ya like another thing to like so for people who might have been following me before like one thing that came to mind since I'm on the website is that I used to host - that was the odd notion and I still host out no and then we explain how that works right so the first example of me hosting a notion was that if you guys don't know already there is a hack where you can do is that you can set any domain space to be your notion domain space what that means is that you can set like for me I had said Carolyn calm to actually link directly to one of my pages and let me just see if I show that right now all my pages it is uh a space of co-creation okay let me see I do want to show you guys this I think it's very interesting yeah I have been curious about what the best way to do that is because I've seen a couple different like WordPress redirects and things like that so I'm I'm curious yeah yeah well I didn't use WordPress I used CloudFlare how far you can several worker I can probably send you guys a guide about this later but I found it is someone else's work it wasn't my work I just rolled off of them but essentially like for a while current Lynn comm actually just directed here and instead of having an ocean that is so domain you actually would have Carla calm period so I think that was like really cool for me like I was able to have like a beta version off my website so I can start working on it and seeing how people respond to it just fine-tune things very easily especially because the ocean I can just edit it you know in a second right but then the evolution came when I was like well I like having my own kind of awesome styling so if you go to my like main page I have like a lot of custom styling here and I also have a blog and what happens is that for my blog I actually load everything from notion so if I opened this up you actually see that every block I have is a notion article and if I open up let's say I have this one helping intentional can change your life I can define the color of the sidebar as game I can define color of the sidebar it's a specific hex color I can define when the published date was so published it I was in the previous page I can show that again later I can also define a URL so the URL is achieve your goals and I can also define the cover image so if I ever shared the item like the party SEO was going to be the cover image of it etc so all this is directly loading from notion like this is exactly from notion if I scroll down here you see it's no lie so basically notion has become my back-end CMS for my sites and on top of that this whole thing is on the latest technology I'm using gas PJs which is react based and it's free I'm hosting on Netta fly and I don't need to pay any hosting fee because it's I think it's up to like a hundred thousand come current views or something is quite ridiculous they're quite generous at that and I don't pay any money to WordPress I don't pay any money for anyone else I host my own website and I use the ocean as a back-end so that's something that you could do and of course also as a music newsletter list so something interesting this is also loading from the same database but how I separate it and is where properties come from is that for newsletters right I actually have it saying is a newsletter instead and again my website will pick up that hate this is a newsletter and therefore the newsletters go to this page versus that page so again something just for you yeah that is really cool now thanks for sharing that link Alex that's awesome he just posted the github gatsby starter notion well there's my weekend no honestly was just a weekend projects like it was really fun for me it's a super easy to do I think altogether took me I think 8 to 10 hours and it's only because I didn't know any react code before like I didn't know how to code in react at all and I just build something like that so it's really fun I got to get my my husband to help me with that one well this is amazing yeah super grateful for you to come on and show us all of this stuff this is really really cool super grateful so definitely check out the gamification project if you're excited to nerd out about this stuff yeah thank you everyone for coming and and hopefully Konrad will get a chance to meet up in person one of these days maybe in Vancouver or Toronto oh yeah yeah I'm deathly upset I missed your in-person presentation and Toronto there's just me yeah we'll make it work in the future but yeah thank you everyone for coming today I just I am super excited I just always loved seeing behind people's workflows and everything so I'm excited and look forward to more of your future YouTube content too so thank you thank you thanks everyone for coming today yes Amy really appreciate it and I hope you guys enjoy the template you let me know if you have any questions and yeah I hope you enjoy my content as well awesome thanks so much Konrad hi everybody hi everyone
