so it's been nine whole months unbelievably since I originally reviewed the nothing phone 2 and in that time an awful lot of stuff has happened like Christmas for instance that was a thing apparently although as usual I spent a good chunk of December unconscious and if Santa did happened to squeeze his fat ass down my chimney Hall he was clearly so repulsed by the sight of me faced down in a lake of intermingled bodily fluids that he left my stocking well alone and also in that 9 months the nothing phone 2 has been updated with Android 14 and made even more spangly with a host of fresh features and improvements while the price has been whittel down to just 500 quid for the most basic model but in that time we've also seen some serious Rivals emerge including the likes the OnePlus 12r Samsung's Galaxy a55 and the redmi note 13 Pro Plus not to mention a cheaper version of the nothing phone 2 in the nothing phone 2 ear so is this literally flashy blower still worthy well for my sim slapped back there for over a week now so here's my in-depth re-review of the nothing phone 2 for more on the latest and greatest Tech please do po subscribe and ding that notifications Bell cheers now one aspect of the nothing phone 2 that obviously hasn't changed in this past most of a year is the design it is undoubtedly still a proper chuner feeling every bit of its 6.7 in thanks to its iPhone esque design even if that ass end is slightly rounded off for a more pleasant hand feel and thankfully this Mighty blower isn't a big softy either still got that pre-installed screen protector on there soaking up any kind of scuffs and scratches and speaking of which there's pretty much no nyck whatsoever on that back end just a couple of teeny we scratches down here near the bottom end and only the weeniest of dents up in this top left corner where the nothing for and two possibly had a sudden and unexpected interaction with a bit of hard Floren and to be honest this phone has taken a couple of tumbles in the past few months because it's a slippery bugger and seriously stick this thing on the arm of a SFA and it doesn't so much gently slide off it pretty much flies off like it's actively trying to hurl itself into Oblivion like a Soden lemon and even if your fingers don't happen to be smothered in grease from a family-sized bucket of fried chicken you'll still have to grasp this thing reasonably tight just to make sure it doesn't accidentally slip out of your grip but ey has been built pretty sturdy so it can tolerate a fair bit of punishment although it is on the ip54 splash resistant not full-on water resistant it'll quite happily sit in a shower and get splashed quite a bit you know blasting a bit of Happy Hardcore while sipping a few of those shower bevies but certainly best not to take it in the bath or a Jacuzzi or something like that and yeah even though nothing has spaffed out three of these smartphones by now you can still expect a bit of a bemused reaction when you yanking out in public ranging from ooh that looks quite fancy to what the actual is that like he just reached into your court and pulled out a well- leafed copy of pervy pensioners or something anyhow since the last time I review the nothing phone 2 it has been upgraded to the latest freshest Android 14 the good bit of nothing OS 2.5.5 slapped on top so quite a lot of new features and tools have been stuffed inside since the last time I banged on about it of course a fair few of these we've already seen in the cheaper nothing phone 2A which I want to say came out just a month or two ago it was probably like half a freaking year so for instance you've now got improved customization options including the ability to only apply the nothing Stu monochrome icons to your desktops which means that the apps TR still B the usual color Shenanigans it's quite handy for actually finding stuff when you need it while also making sure those desktops remain distraction free I'm certainly Still Loving that color stripped UI which like other minimalist launches just helps to keep you focused and every time you pull out your phone it's like a military Mission just get in there get the job done and then get the Rudy heck out again and you got a few new nothing widgets including the photo widget to turn your desktop into a Nostalgia filled photo album ah happy memories wait what and if you download chat GPT to your nothing for 2 you've also got to choice of a couple of nothing widgets there which you can slap on your desktops this allows you to quickly interact with all that AI Shenanigans either via text voice or a bit of camera action as for this AI wallpaper Shenanigans which was first introduced on the nothing phone 2A well it's certainly an acquired taste and rather Limited in what you can actually produce and personally I'm just going to stick with my nerdy animation anigan cheers and of course that disco action keeps expanding with fresh new features and functionality so for instance if you dive into glyph progress the third party integration you've now got calendar support so the nothing form 2 can now count you down to your next meeting or event or whatever else now glyph Tim I do still find myself using fairly regularly and I really like the notification support here especially the essential notifications so if you get a WhatsApp message from one of your favorite contacts trickling in for instance the lights will continue to flash until you finally pick up the bloody phone and check it out and now when you flip to glyph basically laying the phone down face first in order to turn on the light notifications you don't have to have the phone completely flat which is great if you're just sticking it next to you on the sofa or something it wouldn't always activate back when I originally reviewed it but now it activates pretty much every time my only real complaints as far as the disco light Shenanigans goes is that I was hoping a few more third party would have jumped on board to get some proper app support in there but hopefully we'll see a few more trickle through in the coming years and those latest nothing OS updates have also improved the camera experience but more all that in a bit and as far as the software support goes well we've still got two OS updates and 3 years of security patching to look forward to here on the nothing phone 2 so you shouldn't have to H it in the bin anytime soon now I've not really got anything to add to the original review when it comes to that houge 6.7 in OLED display it's still a full HD Plus panel so not as crispy as some of the competition including the redmi note 13 Pro Plus and unlike the redmi there's no HDs streaming support in services like Netflix but on the flip side those visuals are still crisp and beautifully contrast and it's ltp Tech so the refresh skills all the way down to just 1 Herz when it can to preserve the battery life and the nothing fun tw's panel is bright enough to see what's happening even with sunlight glaring off that surface something that's increasingly important now that we're finally emerging from a seemingly endless British winter and you got some banging stereo speakers on here too and I've had bugger all issues with the Bluetooth streaming now the brains of the nothing phone 2 is qualcomm's slightly agent Snapdragon 8 plus gen 1 which does lag behind some Rivals like that OnePlus 12r with its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 but the good news is that everyday performance is still smoother than my scalp helped by the mostly stock Vibes of nothing OS and if you want to while in afternoon being relentlessly murdered by stupid sniping school kids in Call of Duty or just bashing in some of the locals and genjin impact well the nothing fun 2 can handle it all in fact genjin can still run on the highest graphic settings at 60 frames per second and while admittedly mostly hovers around the 40 to 50 frames per second Mark that frame rate does stay fluid it's very rare to see any proper Jers or anything that really takes you out of the game play and yes the nothing fun to does get a wee bit toasty after say just 20 30 minutes of gaming but it doesn't get any hotter than that and I certainly saw no performance throttling even after well over an hour of genjin action and sadly though there's still no decent gaming tools on the nothing phone 2 just the barebone stock Android Shenanigans I've had zero issues when it comes to connectivity with a nothing F to at least here in the UK I usually have 5G support in all the areas where I would expect it however on a recent trip to China I did slightly forget that there's no eim support here on the nothing for I just kind of expected it to have it like most mid-range mobiles do these days so yeah I kind of buggered up all my hopes and dreams of affordable Roman got to say though the battery life on this thing is bloody brilliant and it only seems to get better with time as well so I've never managed to kill this thing in a single day even with plenty of camera action good bit of gaming and stuff on the side even with fairly heavy mixed juice you'll happily get around so 8 to 9 hours of screen on time from a full charge and when you need to bung a cable and and juice it back up well the nothing fun to isn't quite as nippy as some Rivals like the redmi note 13 Pro Plus or the mod Rolla Edge 50 Pro but you know what the 45 W wide charging isn't exactly a slouch if you plug the nothing fun to in for about half an hour or so you should have enough power to get you through a full reasonably intensive deer so as you're not buggering about oning too much oh and yes full Wireless charg and support as well which is again sort of reasonably nippy so yeah all good now as I perhaps gently teased earlier the nothing for 2's camera experience has also been jazzed up in recent times on the hardware side you've got yourself a 50 megapix Sony IMX 890 sensor plus a secondary 50 meg Ultra wide shooter using Samsung's jn1 sensor I always found that the nothing phone 2 was a Dependable Snapper for everyday family shots serving up natural looking picks that's still very much the case despite many updates speaking of those updates the most recent has added Ultra XTR support as found in the nothing phone 2 a so now when you're shooting a scene with strong contrast the nothing phone 2's processing is a wee bit faster and the results are even closer to what you'll see with your peepers Rich colors are beautifully reproduced and it's rare to see any saturation even with bright backlighting low light shooting is also slightly improved with richer tones and a reduction in Grain in those darker conditions so this sort of price point the camera experience is highly competitive I find it much better than the Motorola Edge 50 Pro which I recently reviewed and certainly hell of a lot better than some slightly more affordable options like the redmi note 13 Pro Plus and of course the nothing phone 2 does lack a telephoto shooter unlike the Motorola option and you really won't want to crop in too far a two times digital Zoom is fine but beyond that you will get quite abstract images and that's putting it politely to put it less politely your photo will look what you do have is an ultra wide angle lens and this does an acceptable job when you can't quite fit your subject into a frame and it's also used for macro shots but up close aairs on the nothing phone 2's strong point I for you bit of video where you can shoot footage at up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second just be careful cuz I keep chucking it on 4K resolution and it keeps bumping it back down to bloody 1080p you can now enjoy improved stability when shooting video without rear camera so even when you're trundling Along on a bumpy golf cart type thing my footage still looked impressively smooth although the Pon does feel quite mechanical at times my test footage mostly look sharp even in the evenings there's not too much grain creeping in although lighter elements are sometimes blown out a bit and that audio pickup is clear from all directions so they nothing fun to definitely does a job for any home movie action and for your selfie type Shenanigans the 32 megapixel front face and selfie Snapper is yeah fine you got your portrait mode if you want to make everything fuzzy except for your face and again in more ambient light you'll still get reasonably natural tones although those finer facial details are perhaps mercifully missed and now right there my lovelies is my 2024 re-review of the nothing phone 2 following several updates which have only improved the overall experience I still really Ruddy like this phone mostly just cuz it does something a bit different from the rest of the crowd that disco flashy AR Shenanigans and a rather lovely nothing OS launcher which is packed with great features and just has its own distinctive Style it's not perfect by any means a few we grumbles here and there like the lack of eim support but apart from that Bloody lovely stuff as for alternative options well the OnePlus 12 costs a bit more but you've got even beefier performance in that bad boy otherwise the OnePlus 12r skills things down a bit but still a capable performer with excellent battery life of course you got Samsung's Galaxy a55 if you want to save a bit of cash that's actually fly water resistant as well which the nothing for 2 in but overall I do prefer the nothing for 2 experience and another cheaper option is of course the nothing phone 2 a which scraps a couple of features that you'll find on here like the wireless charging for instance not quite as capable of performer either but still an excellent all round experience and you get most of the best bits that you'll find chucked in here so that's what this Bal Northern twonk reckons but what about you guys if you've been using the nothing fun 2 yourself these past few months be great to hear your own Mini review down in the comments below please do POG subscribe and Di that notifications Bell for more on the latest and greatest Tech and have yourselves a ruddy wonderful rest of the week cheers everyone love you [Music]
