you don't design the neighborhood to draw people and you design the neighborhood for the people are there and people will come [Music] I'm Paul Emery I'm the current president of the North Corktown Neighborhood Association we're neighborhood group one of our mission statements is to have something that we could to say as the development occurs we know that there's going to be development here in North Corktown because we've got all this empty space and we know that the city wants to develop the area but we're concerned that that development include green space I mean the whole thing about the the pheasant is like you know give give the pheasant some place to live let him stay and with the fact that the Ford has just announced their purchase of the train station there's going to be an awful lot of people who are going to want housing near where they work and be a lot of developers who want to build new housing here and we're happy to see that because people need a place to live we're hoping that some of that stays affordable because the people that live here are not making six you know six-figure high tech jobs they've been living here for a long time and they what they would like to see the neighborhood maintain some of its characteristics my name is Nicole Knight and my family has lived in Northbrook town actually both sides of my family going back several generations Norfolk town is a smaller neighborhood just north of the port town proper most people are probably more familiar with regular Corktown likely she can have a new and that whole strip with the bars and restaurants but Northbrook Town is the area actually north of the freeway we have a lot of urban farmers here we have a lot of open space a lot of vacant lots so we've had a process of the last two years where we've had about I'd say about four about five different meetings specifically focused on asking people what they want to see when the neighborhood had developed and out of that process we had several meetings where at one meeting we had 50 people another meeting we had 80 people and out of that process we've got a 24 page report that says ok this is what the people in the neighborhood said [Music] I'm Trisha Talley I've been a resident of North Cork town since 1998 so in 2012 upon hearing a rumor about possible development I was invited to a North port town Neighborhood Association board meeting and one of the subcommittee's that we developed was determining what was really going on with the development and trying to serve a residence it's to determine what they wanted to see in new development we really put in a lot of effort to go around and do surveys have community meetings get the residents involved to get residents opinions on what types of things they would like to see happen to the neighborhood so the most important thing to me that came out of the plan was just having the residents opinion on what we want to see happen here there's definitely been an emphasis from the neighbor the neighbors on being able to preserve the green space that we have being able to support our farms that we have here I'm just making sure that we have that good balance between development people come in and building homes the types of homes that they build so not just you know like high-rise apartments or we want to focus on keeping families and keeping community so just the the balance of the open space that we have that I think is really unique to our neighborhood with bringing in families that will appreciate this area as much as the residents do that have been there for you know generations you don't design the neighborhood to draw people and you design the neighborhood for the people are there and people will come [Music] you
