Thanksgiving yesterday it is quiet on campus here in Chapel Hill anything but in dorrance field as the Tar Heels and the Trojans get ready for some NCAA soccer championships it's the quarterfinals right here on ACC Network extra good evening everybody and thanks for joining us tonight alongside Natalie bode I'm Kyle Stroud four teams looking to punch their ticket to the College Cup while four will be in by the end of today one already getting that ticket is UCLA handled Florida State of four-nothing victory for the Bruins one pac-12 team in another one looking to do so right now Natalie as USC looks to upset the Tar Heels and if they're going to do so they need to look to their dynamic duo couple superstars up top for the Trojans first it's Tara Mikio number 13 she's a pac-12 forward of the year she's got 15 goals and seven assists that's good for 37 points on this season only teammate of hers have more the other half the duo Penelope Hawking 41 points 17 goals 7 assists you look at it Kyle and 32 of the 45 goals for this USC team is from that duo right there that's 70 percent of their total offense fourth highest scoring duo in the NCAA this season they're gonna have to have a big game though because North Carolina boasts a really good offense a led by alessio Rousseau Alessia russo of course she missed the postseason last year with a broken leg but she's back and better than ever russo course scored for four of the six season game she's got goals then on the other side of the ball she's assisting now to her first multi assist game of her career was last round against Michigan finding Isabel Cox not once but twice finding the freshman to help the Tar Heels move on Alessia russo has taken the mantra of it's not how you start a year but it's how you finish really to heart and she has been a different player in the postseason they'll need her to be that different player tonight as the Tar Heels have five seniors that play their final game here at dorrance field can they go out on top or will the USC Trojans move on to the College Cup we'll find out next on ACC Network extra you team's coming out onto the field as we are almost ready for this quarterfinal matchup the number one seed Tar Heels USC Trojans things have held chalk as far as these two teams going this is the matchup that everybody wanted to see in the quarterfinal it's a matchup they get to see as we take a look at the Tar Heel lineup North Carolina going 22 one and one this season and we mentioned it Isabel Cox picked up a brace last game in the third round against Michigan and back in the starting lineup she'll definitely be a player to watch an offensive target for the Tar Heels just eight goals allowed by this North Carolina team all season long they'll be challenged though as we mentioned that dynamic duo for the Trojans they went 17 4 and 1 this season and they're gonna have to look to somebody else to get some score and kind of like they did to give you Natalie Ward the defender a grab transfer gets her first career goal to push the Trojans into this quarterfinal matchup Natalie Ward of course got the 1o goal the game-winner against Santa Clara good time to score your first going on Kyle Carolina's in the dark blue uniforms to start tonight and that is the best time to get that first goal of the season when their team needs it the most USC will be in the all white uniform star heels with possession as we're under way here at Dorrans field trip to the College Cup on the line between these two be the fifth matchup ever between North Carolina and USC Tar Heels owning the three to one record in those matchups the one win for USC was a few years ago 2016 it was in the regular season but USC won their second national championship that year that was a decisive win three and oh they actually shut him out but you're absolutely right this is their third quarterfinal appearance for the Trojans in the last two times like you mentioned they've gone on to win national championships so really good record for us see when they get here but North Carolina will do it they can to stop them look at coach MacAlpine over there on the bench in his sixth season he has done wonders for the Trojans making the tournament all six years as they look to get back to that College Cup one of just four programs that have won a national championship multiple times of course one of the other ones North Carolina we all know that they have been the prototypical staple there for women's college soccer 21 NCAA Championships 22 if you count there a iaw which happened before the NCAA is even established door seat the freshman on the backline for North Carolina 102 and the lineup for Anson Dorrance squad he's told me those two freshmen Isabel Cox we mentioned and Julia Dorsey on the backline really have exceeded his expectations thought they'd be good didn't quite think they'd be as good as they have this season and you mentioned it Kyle but oh just what a spread right between the n-c-double-a championships at different teen zone of course North Carolina with 21 you've got Notre Dame with three then you got FSU Stanford Portland and here tonight USC all with two so definitely very spread but a couple under their belt in their experience program they were offense for the Tar Heels I think the most impressive number their their 19 shutouts on the season they have not given up a goal in this Stadium it was open this year named dorrance field during your season have not given up a goal to an opponent so far that's one of the most exciting parts about this matchup as you have Taryn McKeon and Penelope Hawking our goal scoring machines and of course a very offensive minded Trojan team but then you're matched up against one of the best defenses in the n-c-double-a talking with coach McFadden the Calpine before the game action give me the favor of talking to me yesterday took the timeout during his Thanksgiving and said you know this first 15 minutes are going to be crucial for us they love to start early they're a different team when they're able to get on the board first but beyond that just to take some of the pressure off that North Carolina will put on you as you can see here making it tough for the Trojans to get that ball out of their attacking zone you mentioned it but getting out as a high pressure that North Carolina prides himself on you know they're gonna play the high-pressure system but USC even though they are the underdog they're not necessarily gonna change their whole formation to adjust to North Carolina in these opening minutes they really want to see North Carolina have to adjust to their style let's Macy gal the freshman for the Tar Heels who will track back and get it the CC freshman of the year for her Tar Heels have had three of the last four ACC freshman over the years Bridget and huge espy Alessio Rousseau her teammates on the other two last year the only year North Carolina hasn't won it in the last four you just be trying to make a run down the near side good job tracking back by Penelope Hawking she plays it out of bounds North Carolina will keep possession though what great vision from Briana Pinto saw it was clustered on that side of the field and she finds an open and rejewski for the switch Rowan from Dorsey clear attempt doesn't work for the Trojans Rousseau will play it wide Fox serves it in there's a couple of Tar Heels Dorsey was calm just off the mark but a good look there for that's our he is and that's what you cannot afford if you're us see just kind of a snuff ball didn't get out then the cross comes and now is Isabel Cox who barely misses it of course Andrew Jeske maybe was calling for it on the back post but for USC you just cannot make those mistakes in the back because North Carolina will make you pay Cox with three goals and an assist during the regular season had a brace last weekend against Michigan push her season total up to five on the year it was good to be tied for fourth on this North Carolina team Russo with a good first touch speeds one ahead two cops one defender to beat gets a step centers one the shot is going to off the mark from Rachel Jones referee signal in a corner low for the Tar Heels Jones a little slow as she gets to her feet Nikki watched last game there it is outlet pass from Russo to Isabel Cox oh good one-on-one and has the discipline here to see how far outside she is she tries to lay it off for someone inside the box but Southern California with a good mark and it'll just be a corner kick good timing on the slide tackle from the senior Julia Bingham third team all pac-12 not too woobin boy plays it in for the heels Collins got a piece of it's still not clear shot excuse me that was Andrew Jeske the senior for the heels good looks here in the last couple minutes for the heels really good ball served in and then Andrew Jeske there for the quick turn tries to collect it but again that shot is just wide but in the opening few minutes Bridget Andrew Jeske looking powerful on the ball and almost finished that one and you jesting one of those five seniors that will play their last game here regardless of the outcome you win this game you don't get to host anymore it's on to the college cup Trojans looking to set their offense up Hocking lays it into the box Andrew Jeske back on defense as Ward is down there snatch it out of the air for the Tar Heels and that's a good response from USC had been all North Carolina in the past couple looks on goal but they take it and they try to get one themselves Claudia Dickey just a sophomore goalkeeper for the Tar Heels out of Charlotte North Carolina fantastic season for her actually leads the NCAA and goal against average on the year under point - she's at one point eight nine goals against on the year that's especially remarkable and you think about this system that Anson Dorrance plays of course he named a starter but prior to naming is starter for the postseason she was splitting time with Mars Josephson so both were getting a half to play each per game and of course deke the veteran one out for the postseason in that depth at North Carolina has the aunt endurance takes advantage of its something else that Coach McAlpine told me they're gonna have to deal with because the Tar Heels can go so deep and because the Trojans are so banged up they're really gonna have to limit North Carolina's offensive opportunities so they don't get too tired towards the end of the game you really see that just lags start to set in after that first round of subs they typically makes after 20 or 25 and we'll see how USC responds but always a test no matter who the opponent is at North Carolina pressure from the Tar Heels forces a turnover and Trojan territory now plays it into the middle of hoop for Jones she's got some room feeds it to Cox Andrew jetski on her right cops back to Jones Trojans have some traffic there Pinto Andrew jetski can't get a shot off the wall there for the defense able to turn it aside and the Trojans will breathe a little bit easier outside Natalie bode I'm Kyle Stroud thanks for joining us for this evenings game UCLA already on to the College Cup one of those these two teams will join them you know North Carolina heard about the wind that UCLA got over FSU earlier of course FSU beat North Carolina last year in the national championship only the only team to own multiple wins over them so then you get routed by UCLA at four to nothing as a relief if North Carolina can move on will be able to take a look at that game a little bit later that UCLA didn't waste any time got on the board a couple of goals in the first 15 minutes and it really made the difference through the first 10 so far it's been fairly even matched two shots for the Tar Heels none for the Trojans but neither team with anything that's really threatened while intended for Aliyah Hyatt the former Tar Heel there at midfield you're Jeske looking to play one over the top for cots good job track him back and getting that one by Plumtree both of these programs loaded with postseason accolades eight pac-12 nominees for the Trojans same number of all ACC players for the tarios not only postseason awards but you look at the most coveted individual honor in women's soccer Division one right now the Hermann Trophy they named 15 semi-finalists and you have four of those semi-finalists on the field tonight of course for the Tar Heels that's Pinto Russo and Fox and then on the other side of things that's Tara McNeal they fought to the good long run for the Tar Heels feeds one fewer Andrew Jeske she'll take the shot one hops the keeper Collins able to pick up the rebound before anybody in blue jersey gets their Bridget and rejewski really has found herself open a couple of times already so far this game really verbal about it and has gotten herself some really good looks on goal of course that turn in shoot right there and then whenever she switched the field with Pinto earlier but that's the leadership you need from a player like her right now senior has had a good balanced offensive year six goals and seven assists for the Tar Heels good for 19 points which puts her third on the team behind Russo and Pinto what we see with a lot of room brings this ball up through the midfield plays it ahead for Cox she'll get to it in the corner one defender in front pops to the right foot centering pass good job defensively though by Haiti take a look at this portion of the bracket the two winners move on to the College Cup to play each other South Carolina and Washington State Washington State a little bit of a surprise who have gotten to this point right now but the South Carolina Gamecocks have been there all season long that game going on right now we'll keep you updated as we get score info from that one we see again bringing it up through the midfield and you Jessica gonna feed it ahead to her just too much pace though is it'll go out of ours and rejewski endorsee of course both from Maryland they actually went to the exact same high school McDonough School in Owings Mills so little known fact but although at different times same small town and same high school for those two you've been more the junior from England plays it over to the nearside for the Tar Heels seems like North Carolina Natalie has been attacking this nearside more often than not so far through the first 15 minutes or so that's thanks to Bridget Andrew Jeske you know the seniors been very verbal on the outside of course a lot of good looks on goals from her but calling for the ball and you have wide open space and absolutely you're gonna usually get the pass pass when Bingham gets up towards midfield but the Tar Heels take possession right back as feed they're from Fox to Krauts the freshman gathers it farside nice move to get around the defender and end of the 18th centering pass Pinto can't get to it's a little behind her and the Trojans once again cleared away I think they heard you Kyle's there's Emily Fox back again on that opposite right side one goal 11 assists of the year for Fox tried to thread the needle there but can't get it through one of the keys that Coach mcalpine gave me when I said what do you need to do to win the game today he said the first 15 minutes are going to be really important for us how do you think they've done so far so far obviously North Carolina has had more looks on goal but USC is really keeping up in terms of pace and making the right pass keeping possession of course our midfield has done a good job collecting first and second balls as well so they can keep this up for the next 30 they should be in good shape but pretty big so far from the Trojans we've been more with a miss touch on the past mickey own batted down in front of the goal but nobody else there in the offense stalls for the Trojans three goals given up this season by Claudia Dickey put the two saves for her booter can't control that one but step in front my Fox Bell will feed it to Russo Tar Heels look for the counter-attack the ball chipped in mickey own heads it on frame but right into the waiting arms of Dickie took one we've seen from the Trojans as you said North Carolina a really good job of being patient on the ball if they don't have numbers up they'll hold it let their teammates get four and USC right there I get the trying to head it on frame but did you take it to the corner get some your other offensive players up and give yourself a chance Tar Heels have outscored their opponents in the three NCAA games they played so far 10 to nothing it's scoreless so far Rachel Jones feeds it in with the left foot immediately played out hinto had it momentarily for the Tarheels Carolyn I'm gonna play this all the way back to Woburn Moyes they'll set things up again he's been on the turf a couple of times no whistles from the referee Trojans looking for a counter-attack great first touchdown from Mickey own ball into the box ease on the board first there's 18 of the season and the Tar Heels found themselves trailing for the first time this postseason and there it is Hawking she'll get this when it starts in midfield Oh nice pass she'll collect it another than the other half of the dynamic duo Tara Mickey finds Hawking for the finish and this is not unusual USC scores first and 86% of their matches that's 19 of their 22 games they've been on the board first and it's all North Carolina now not used to being down how will they react this is just how quick that dynamic duo can make things happen Mickey Owen with her eighth assist on the season and as I said the 18th goal of the year for Hawking they didn't come in the first 15 minutes like Coach MacAlpine had hope so but in the 17th minute his team out in front yeah the Tar Heels respond here is this one's gonna be played ahead by brooder again it is Hawking making a run Dickey will get to this in the corner though they'll be Hawking will now own the first goal scored against North Carolina at dorrance field she just broke a streak of 19 shutouts for the targets 46 Bowl on the season scored by USC that's they're gonna play near side and does finds Andrew Jeske in some space when I want you at the defendant the job of porting the initial push blob was Ward a gang war gets in the way of it there you Jeske plays it across Pinto with the header cops making a run and it is going to be Collins who gets to it of course another play that starts with and rejewski on the outside she serves this one in spitted down and then Isabelle Cox once again trying to finish that ball off and some good looks by North Carolina but cannot quite get the finishing touch I feel like you got to give Natalie Ward some credit took away the left foot from Bridget Andrew Jeske she tried to get a little bit closer to the end line that fall served in far enough away Pinto couldn't really get a great shot on it and board of course a grad transfer knows the Tar Heels was that Notre Dame for her first three years of her career not only a Notre Dame but a team captain at Notre Dame so if their coach McAlpine you feel really good about letting in such a seasoned veteran on to your team this season growing deep in Tar Heel territory here for the Trojans I think it's one of those eight 12 players for USC this season we've been muy with the header can't get it cleared all centered a good job there though by tiller out of the team captain got a piece of it if not I could have found Mikio who was waiting on the back end maybe worth revisiting some of those numbers Kyle Michiel in the pac-12 Ford of the year she's got 37 points for her team only outdone by the goal scorer Penelope Hawking those two have 70% of the team's total offense just between them and they showcased it when they scored first in this one Rousseau plays it in with the right foot consulate to flick it on couldn't get a piece of it instead USC will play it out the hyatt looks ahead plays a ball over the top of the Tar Heel Defense Tara Miki oh I'm gonna track it down long past there in the Tar Heel zone in North Carolina takes advantage of it Jeske towards midfield looking for cots can't connect another go right back to the Trojans another score update as Stanford another one of those number one seeds take the first half lead over BYU nine team already into the College Cup that is UCLA three more looking to get in ball there again look back here and definitely a hand ball right there you see Rousseau easily convinced right away but they will get the call good opportunity for North Carolina great on set pieces look for number 25 freshman Maci Bell here but good opportunity for the targets about to woobin boy will play it in for the Tar Heels junior out of England lays it in with the right foot now is who they targeted Trojans were able to get ahead on it first young plays it up towards midfield where Dorsey gathers in it times drab and Natalie bode with you here on ACC Network extra appreciate you joining us here tonight one-nothing lead for the Trojans for the duo of Tara Mickey Owen and Penelope Hawking but I'll able to get ahead on that one even more a good step in front loose attracts a feed opinion we've been more on the run to Trojans there the ball is loose Cox is right there for the heels Collins is 2 and Collins gets a toe on it to push it away what a step in front by woman Moishe even gets the ball weave through so she can go one-on-one with the Trojan goalkeeper but some unusual play for the sinner back to get an opportunity look like everybody a little bit hesitant when that ball was at the top of the 18 as well Collins just able to get a toe to keep it away from cots otherwise his very easily could be an even game who seldom switch fields and drew Jeske and ward senior against senior and huge SP plays it into the corner for Dorsey the freshman back to Andrew Jesse can't connect though tight in a footrace we've been boy Nicky on both their against the Tar Heels take another look at this one and how close Carolina was to being able to get the equalizer started with wolven Moy doing a great job of stepping in front and taking that ball upfield to create that build up and get that opportunity like a couple players were confused I think the ref was just motioning play on after a couple of players collided but you're right Kyle just those steps away from this game being even Ashley plumper the senior play this free kick in for USC right over the midfield marker down by the Trojans Hocking will play it into space Vittorio's will take it away we show the ACC Most Valuable Player with ball over top tops not able to get it hopefully he'll the whistle for a while but finally blew it it'll go against Pinto 19 remaining here in the first half are you surprised Natalie that Anton has not gone to his bench at all typically it's about the 25-minute mark when you start to see those subs come in I was just thinking that Kyle it's kind of their hockey line change that they're known for tons of players at once coming in and I don't think he's used this season to being in this position of course being down one but I'd be surprised if we didn't see substitutions in the next couple minutes looked like he might have been getting up to do just that but I'd be very surprised if not box and open space for the Tar Heels of three heels who were invited to the US team tryout in December they on a Pinto one of the others she tries to play it in we will earn a corner kick for the Tar Heels Pinto led the season regular season and goals scored for North Carolina before Milesi Russo took it to another level here in the postseason again a goby whooping muy to play it in for Carolina sends this one towards the back post Andrew Jessica is there the Hat is down Carolina ties it up that one and now they're saying it didn't sneak through his Collins plays it back out the fans here not happy with it but USC still play and looking to take that lead and advance it tie it with a shot and deke comes up with a diving save take another look and see what we can see this one fully cross that line look like it might of course keep caught that ball looks like it took her in the back here's another close-up replay a better view from the front again it's looks like it's right on the line Kyle so full ball has to cross that line and I don't think it did the referees are gonna take another look just to make sure but I think they got the call on the field right it was Andrew Jeske on the ball she's been so active so far this game she was hoping to sneak that one through but from up here it looked like it was a goal from the front view it looked like it was a goal but then looking a bit closer it appears it was right on the line and how's he the entire ball has to cross so we'll see but the refs discussing that one right now and again you can see it looks like right on that line she had to reach back but it never fully crosses it was the foot of the defender that stopped the momentum of the ball and that allowed Collins to gather it in see what they think it looks like they're coming to a conclusion but again did the ball fully cross so ruling on the field was no no goal while did not cross the goal line pitch MacAlpine gets an explanation from the referee I think what they're gonna do is take the ball from Dickie we're just gonna let her put it back into play so on the fifth shot of the night north carolina nearly gets their first goal instead the trojans able to turn them away and keep that lead intact goals scored by the Trojans just the ninth given up by Carolina this season it's the junior Russo she feeds one who picks out just a step in front over the junior there to be the sophomore though and so and Fox battling with Jacobs over there to our heels win it is about cops over in the corner has it touch her last it'll be USC ball mentioned Briana Pinto the sophomore one of the best players in the country right now of course she's nominated for the Hermann Trophy but also one of five nominees for the 2019 u.s. soccer young female Player of the Year she's so great academically such a scholar athlete and clearly stands out on the field as well but Briana Pinto just all-around good care and personal victories things getting a little bit physical on the far side there between the freshman Maci Bell and Tara Miki own good job by me she failed a box out may have gotten a little bit of instruction from a teammate Claudia Dickey she is at North Carolina on a basketball scholarship after all they see Bell and Mickie own really going at it of course Bell not used to being scored on at all or beat down the flank so good a frustration there of a lot of three-ball there from dick he feeds it right to Rachel Jones her shot gonna make it on frame but still saved by Collins anyway gotta give some credit to Collins because North Carolina have five shots course weighing two of those on goal but a lot of dangerous looks she's done a really good job collecting each of them Tar Heels have had the better of things so far as far as the possession goes and shots but for USC when they've had those opportunities they've had better ones and made the most of it three shots all of them on goal and obviously the one-nothing lead for coach McHale Pines team box looking to plan ahead for Isabel cots Trojans able to take it away looks like Caroline finally ready to make that line change Anson Dorrance just said that looks like six or seven players over the scoring table later than usual for him he let his starters play it told 14 was left on the cloth usually he goes ahead with that change about 10 minutes earlier but you're down a goal change up things a little bit doors he comes up from the back line to help the Tar Heel attack I'm telling you so trying to go back and forth there we're still going to come in from behind the play and North Carolina's going to get themselves a pretty kick referee saying that ball hit the arm of a Trojan defenders to the second hand ball called against USC in North Carolina from about 30 35 yards out going to take this free kick Alessio russo we saw in the second round matchup has got a strong enough leg to absolutely put one in the back of the net from here this is great position for the Tar Heels you wonder she's gonna go in frame is she not gonna go on frame well if you have seen Alessio russo strike you guys her to put on framing poor person walls set up for the Trojans Collins direct some traffic from the goal seven forward for Carolina Russo with a shot in hit one of the four on the line Dorsey is going to play it back in flicked on by Otto Fox I think is the one down in the box for the Tar Heels of the Trojans able to clear this one up towards midfield and it'll go out of bounds that is Emily Fox slow to get up for the Tar Heels the junior from Ashford Virginia she just looks like she gets did right there tell exactly what it will take another look she tried to play that ball as Hawking Frost in front and Fox got the worse of the where to right foot up limping a little bit but it's like she might be good to go got a player you want to see injured if your otário the only collegiate player with us caps for the national team in the meantime all the substitutions came in for the Tar Heels the entire front line and most of the midfield all brand-new for Anson Dorrance squad Schultz moocher era Strickland golf for a day and Pearce all on for the heels here's Fox a little bit of room she's gonna come back towards the left foot he'll pass intended for a day off the mark gelareh to dorsey in the corner there was two trying to get around ward puts a little too much on that one and it's cleared away by the trojans one substitution for USC the freshman over fire shot a adamo leakin comes in there's a beautiful ball ahead for hawking talking with the shot can't get much on it and an easy save though for Dickie another score update in the other games going on it's the same game Stanford now with a two nothing lead over BYU that one still in the first half game start at the same time as us so we'll keep you apprised of the situation I don't have a final for you but we can tell you what the score is throughout them if that score holds then half of the college cup spots will belong to pac-12 teams that would be at Stanford they hold over BYU and then of course UCLA who beat FSU earlier today and those teams ironically to the three teams have beaten USC team playing right here tonight so in good company in the pac-12 world eight teams in the quarterfinals from the pac-12 here's Emily Foxx in the buddha run from midfield plays at new side mucho era to the left for mucho era with a cross right into the body of Palin's bound will be a Carolina quarter a spark plug off the bench or Carolina the super subs trying to get things started again it's that left side but she'll be blocked out by Collins and they'll set up here for a corner North Carolina looking to get one back with less than ten in the first half third corner of the half for the Tar Heels we've been more over the top moocher way over the top shot from Pierce stays on the ground the defense able to cool it away Thanks working her way down towards the end line looks to pour across that one and it'll be another Carolina corner we'll just switch sides look for you bit frustrating for North Carolina they've had a lot of set pieces a lot of looks on goal but just haven't been able to put one away nine shots for the Tar Heels in the game just three of them on frame though we've been boy for Belle she gets a head on it but cannot get it on frame and the Tar Heels with a good cross but still can't capitalize on their fourth corner a little bit shaken up is Natalie Jacobs as we take another look that's Center back to Center back right there will be no e plays that one to Belle who gets up high over her defender Belle again at 511 tallest Tar Heel on the field but can't quite find the frame there and she's had a heck of a game Kyle she's got her work cut out for her with Mickey on who certainly played her physically what a big deal would have been for her to get her team up ACC freshman of the year was also one of the three Tar Heels invited to the u.s. national training camp in December it's no surprise I mean she's what 18 years old before the season started she'd already been called up to the u23 team so nice to see her added to that select trio that was called into the u.s. national team ID camp again that's Belle Pinto and Fox Madeline Vigoroth a sophomore from Concord Massachusetts checks in for USC our legions also on the pitch for the Trojans it's a really good ball by Ashley hunter again she's done a really good job with Isabel Cobb score she checked out now but verse 30 when Cox was in the game she really protected the outlet pass that Cox and were so exposed last round against Michigan gotta think they did their homework Kyle and they knew that was one thing that they couldn't let sneak through Matt's wins wall at midfield she's made a couple of long runs here in the last few minutes there's a nice give and go there with Schultz looking for Pierce at the top the 18 but a nice step in front by the Trojans as the defense looks to get a back up field not much offense for USC tonight but they've taken advantage of about the two of these they have they give one away here Mucha rare and nearly got to it maybe the junior out of that Lana just a half a step of front it's been the story of this first half those 50/50 balls USC has been just a little bit quicker too day got a piece of that one still bouncing around in the box couple players down no whistle and USC has possession unfortunately that's how soccer can be sometimes of course Carolina's out shooting USC so far ten to four but they have three shots on goal two USC's four so so Southern California can he get done when they need to and Carolina just really has not been able to finish but a multitude of chances again it Schultz and Fox on the far side thoughts working back towards this way has moocher Erica Fox takes a shot few minutes in this first half she has made some long runs this time she said I'm gonna take it myself and finishes it off in her second goal of the season what a goal from her she finds an answer for her team but what an individual effort b1 b2 go ahead take it cut inside do it myself again score that's a one-to-one she finds the answer for her team but Emily Foxx down just a couple minutes ago holding her right foot didn't seem to bother her there time so our healed fans got to be happy then it's not bothering her anymore what a great time to find the equalizer with just six minutes left in the half head to the locker room all tied up both goals for Fox coming into postseason this year the first one in the first round matchup an assist it's a ton of heels on the board and now the crowd getting into it to try and get behind this Carolina squad six minutes to go here in the first half trying to feel good if you're Carolina finally able to break through it took 11 shots to do so but you finally break through on the other side of your USC there shouldn't be any panic they've played without the ball the majority of this first half and just now finally have an equal game again they've done a really good if matching Carolina's pace and maintaining possession when they need to good run for mucho Aaron leap lays it off for a day her cross fine Schultz before it is going to be cleared out by plump dirt that's the thing Kyle when you have over ten shots eventually and you keep getting unlucky eventually one's gonna fall in of course this pastime Emily Fox has a no-doubter great individual effort she puts that one away but their other looks on goal just a little bit unlucky we told you in the open five seniors that are playing their last game here in Chapel Hill a lot of them we're in that sub of seven that came in for Anson Dorrance and they have really added a spark for Carolina making it tough for the Trojans to get up through the midfield instead USC will just play along headed back by Bella Gulf will play it out of bounds last touched by the heels it'll go to USC of course that's where I thought USC would be tested after you get that big wave of sub subs Manson dorrance aside they held tight for about 10 minutes and then of course the Tar Heels broke through but even going into the second half when you get to that last 45 minutes of soccer how do you hold up against a never ending depth it seems of this North Carolina side jaelyn Eisenhart just came into the game a minute ago for USC food sub used here in this first half by coach McHale behind so he was with seven subs Stricklen they're battling with Jones that appears to one touch off the mark another score update Stanford me not good enough didn't want one didn't want to they said give us three first-half goals they're still going in the first 45 but in control of that one against BYU kind of a a carbon copy without being able to see the game of what happened in UCLA in Florida State's game earlier today you wouldn't think once it approaches the Elite Eight they would beginning to be decided in such dominant fashion of course that one not over yet well I still loose in the box Collins not able to get the fist on it moocher era where the shot Collins keeps it and down early there's moocher era there missed clearance by the USC backline they're lucky that Carolina has not yet capitalized and in moocher era with another look but a good deflection right there from Natalie Ward the vessel moocher era to keep that one in bounds new side sure arrow of course one of those seniors off the bench looking to make a difference for her team but to your point earlier though you wouldn't expect to see some blow outs here in the quarterfinals at the same time you get here and teams that have been there before know what it takes Stanford has been there before they've won national championships same thing for UCLA we're lucky that we've got two teams in front of us that are not just won a national championship but everyone multiple you said it but to be up three to nothing in the first that's a very dominant play again Emily Fox showing her brilliance far side of the field look at the footwork earlier in the country with time on the u.s. national team there's a reason for it folks you love to see the individual flair that'll be enough to earn free kick from lotta woman moines will get all the way into the 18 moocher era gets a head on it you're gonna send it out towards midfield minutes ago here in the first half USC was in front for a long time scoring in 17th minute Tar Heels found the equalizer though that's fine the bathroom and again your gets in the way of that cross attempt and it'll be a throw in North Carolina did a really good job after being down 102 really stay in it knocked it on the back foot keep applying pressure and then they are won back and end of this first half we've been born with a long pass looking for mucho era try to sell that one down ba tried to be cleared by Haiti it was a dangerous one which romera got away a bit but luckily for us see if the flex right to Collins she'll roll it out as the clock runs out what a first half there Natalie 1-1 great energy from both sides of course USC they struck first but North Carolina didn't give up they kept up the intensity it was Emily Fox who equalized and got her second goal of the season the dynamic duo Tara Nikki own vanellope Hocking they got it started as they combined for the first goal tonight in the 17th minute USC was out in front but the Tar Heels and the brilliance of Emily Fox able to tie this one up that's where we stand as we head into the halftime break here on ACC Network extra you gorgeous night here in Chapel Hill temperatures right around 50 degrees and a great matchup going on on the pitch 1 1 between the Tar Heels and the Trojans alongside Natalie voting I'm Kyle Stroud we appreciate you joining us tonight half time in this one gives us Natalie an opportunity to take a look at some of the other games Stanford now up for nothing over BYU the Gamecocks taking on Washington State they're scoreless the winner of that one will meet the winner of this game between North Carolina and USC earlier today though it was UCLA the first team to punch their ticket into the College Cup you said it four to nothing over Florida State they'll get things started early on it recorded a couple early goals the first two coming from Chloe Castaneda the redshirt senior she'll put that one away here but she was not done cells one of her - she'll go back for a second again about 39 30 minutes in and she'll turn and square up with her defender and get another one to get her team up 2 to nothing in the first half get it all by herself but got a little bit of help as they added one more on before halftime right there that's number 10 me official will get a third goal for her side another look here or the top way to settle that one and just put it away in close range not the first time but the second time and she'll go back at it corner kick here and it's official on the back post she'll head that one in again the freshman with a brace meets the redshirt senior Castaneda with the brace so two players four goals for the Bruins and knowing that one very decisively over Florida State couple of big performances for UC they make their eleventh College Cup appearance all times they'll take on the winner of that Stanford BYU game North Carolina South Carolina awaiting the winner but to be North Carolina's USC rating the winner of the South Carolina game to hand it to the Bruins they can sit back and watch these ones it is one to one between the Trojans and the Tar Heels we'll be back with some stott stats and highlights and we come back here on HCC Network extra you welcome back to Chapel Hill the site for tonight's quarterfinal matchup between the Tar Heels and the Trojan alongside Natalie bode I'm Kyle Stroud one to one between these two and Natalie it was USC who got on the board first Penelope Hawking with her eighteenth goal on the season you're absolutely right and we talked about at Kyle Terra Mickey Owen and Penelope Hawking 70% of USC's offense is between these two players and there it is McHugh into Hawking Hawking will make them on the board first but of course that duo they knew about it we talked about it and they struck first but not to be outdone North Carolina looks to come back at it and very technically called the almost goal from a Bridget Andrew Jeske this one will not pass the goal line but what a deflection probably an accident by that defender to prevent it from going over the line and it being tied at once Julia Bingham getting the foot on to stop momentum and the brilliance from Emily thoughts to finally put North Carolina on the board and equalize this one Emily Fox of course the leader and assists on this North Carolina team but she will make it one in one and nab the equalizer so they can go into the locker room all tied up so our heels have had possession much more than USC has and they've had more opportunities you can see it there 12 shots to just four for the Trojans but the thing that sticks out shots on goal it doesn't matter how many opportunities you have you've got to put it between the pipes and they've both done that four times so far absolutely all comes down to the quality of the chants USC matching the quality chances on North Carolina's side even though they're being out shot right now three two one teams starting to slowly make their way back out to the field that means will step aside one more time when we come back it'll be the second half between the Tar Heels and the Trojans you you crowd starting to funnel back to their seat as we're just about a minute away from the second half getting underway one-to-one between the Tar Heels and the Trojans here at dorrance Field Emily thoughts with that goal for the Tar Heels in the first half to tie things up and the players that are supposed to show out have done so today of the 15 finalists for the Mac Hermann Trophy out there on the pitch in front of us Mickey Owen with an assist thoughts with a goal and we've seen Russo and Pinto all over the field it says a lot when you have over a third of the best individual talent in the country on display in one pitch tonight but Tara Mickey Owen obviously assisting the Penelope Hocking goal and then Emily Foxx grabs one for her team to equalize it for these players looking like just that great individual talent not many opportunities for USC but between Mickey Owen and the bowl score of Hocking some big firepower that can strike quickly you saw that during the halftime highlights it was our North Carolina side of the field 15 seconds it's in the back of the neck of the Trojans with a lead but a lot of talent for the Tar Heels Brianna Pinto really trying to make some things happen as well towards the end of that first half stand out to me was Bridget and rejewski the senior did a great job of coupling for the ball getting open on her far side and really creating a lot of chances Tar Heels started the first half with possession so USC will have it here for the second 45 rockin gets direction from the referee we're underway here in the second half dial Stroud and Natalie bode with you on ECC Network extra winner moves on to the College Cup Trojans threatening right away with a shot that is going to go wide we that was off the foot of Mickey Owen and after not having a single corner in the first half ESC gets one of the first 30 seconds here in the second half played out quickly to Aliyah hyatt she'll cross it in finds a head of a teammate that was mickey own ball still loose Maci Bell heads it back towards the 18 handball served in flicked on Nikki gonna let this one go out of bounds couple of shots here to start the second half from the trow the Trojans but they come up empty force USC no stranger to scoring first they have done so in 19 of their 22 matches it was surprised it that's exactly what they're trying to do here come out get another early goal and try to put Carolina on the back foot as they did in the first half all played out by deke but headed right back in by Jacobs it's endurance back to his original starting 11 came in with seven subs in the first half for who approached the Calpine team it was a senior andrew Jeske nearly had a goal in the first half crosses this one with the left foot hit toe with the header it just goes wide of the goal both teams with a good opportunity here in the first couple of minutes another great play that started with Andrew Jeske getting open calling for the ball it was Russa that played it to her she played this one to Pinto in the box and it's just inches from being two to one at North Carolina look like Pinto was aiming for that back post and just pushed it a little bit wide I love the team captain plays in ahead from midfield second year in a row that she has been a captain for Anson Dorrance team he said she's one of the best leaders he's ever had taken away by the Trojans know there's to step up and slow the attack Fox gonna come over I able to keep possession gets it to Jacobs Jacobs with a shot Bell gets in the way crops with a long road up the near side and the space for the freshmen constantly played out of bounds off the foot of plumper couple of goals for Cox last game and in the first half before the substitutions it looked like they really were feeding the ball to her trying to get her involved offensive look one thing coach MacAlpine noted was taking away the outlet pass from Russo to Cox that worked so well I don't have to score them two goals last game against Michigan you really cut that off and instead North Carolina has looked for the switch on the outside he's Dorsey for the Tar Heels a freshman with a lot of room in front of her leaves it off for Andrew Jeske Dotson Russo based in the box at laurels Cox with the header but it's awful more sometimes you see teams come out of a locker room for a second half and they're a little slow to get back into the rhythm of the game but both teams have come out firing here in the first four minutes of the second half it's really kind of just been consistent with this story of this game so far excellent pace maintained and just back and forth chances USC had the first one in North Carolina comes back and they've got two really good chances from crosses on the outside who's Andrew just do some good footwork ward able to recover and get in front of that cross attempt it's been a good battle between those two all night long speaking another look at senior Bridget Andrew Jess key on the outside great 1v1 work by her her defender a couple of times already of course that one doesn't sneak through Rachel Jones with the shot on the ground defender gets that one out of the box the defensive line helping Collins out she was near post as the shot went far sometimes you got to get lucky you know when a team is out shooting you 14 to 7 you know 201 in your shots I'd have great goal keeping but defensively they've also had a couple critical deflections that being one of them and then of course the almost goal from Bridget and her jesting when she headed the ball and came across the goal line potted defenders food great header there from cox-2 spring away from a defender little step over for Pinto that passed a little bit off the mark and the Trojans gonna be able to clear it away pass just behind the sophomore Pinto had been a little more forward with Carolina could have gotten a shot off Trojans looking for a counter-attack of themselves bell and a help the shield at miss hit there from Dickey she's gonna have to retreat to get back into goal Mikio battling with dorsey nice he'll pass from the freshman an offside flag its Bell Cox a little bit of an early start as the Trojans playing a high line did you just found it on the far side eventually a whistle comes in from the referee FAL against the Trojans now actually was against Jones Andrew Jeske hounded by Ward that much Rachel Jones go flying there as Samantha brooder got into her body Rooter puts her hands up but there was definitely no ball contact and that encounter it was just all her over Jones and you've seen that from USC so far they placed such a physical game it's pretty clean first half just seven total fouls between the two teams or against USC one against the tour or two to three against the Tar Heels we've been more than a long pass to find Rousseau and spark the offense with the heels Rihanna Pinto with a step-over plays it to the left foot and drew Jeske one touch the shot is not much on it and easily saved by Collins I think that first touch maybe a little too much for Andrew Jeske sixteenth shot at a game for the Tar Heels with three white jerseys around her somehow gets a foot on it to cots but it's taken away by the Trojans walking back to Jacobs Jacobs the head there's high it making a run Fox there as well that one's going to go out of bounds and the referee gonna signal this is a goal kick for USC both players slow to get up though Hawking and it looks like Fox in some pain behind her remember in the first half of play ox was down like she had her foot had been grabbed by the cleat of another player and I'd hate for it to be the exact same one of course this time it's a little more serious both players going to the ground as they get to this one on the end line you could see her immediately reaching for her left leg so you took one more hit to the ground before she finally met the turf but her left ankle that she's holding right now and has not yet made it up bucks the goalscorer in the first half for the Tar Heels one of the key members for Anson Dorrance squad take another look at the hit she took in the first half that had her slow to get up collision with Hawking then as well looks like it's actually the opposite leg so good news for Fox not twice the exact same injury but this one again looks a lot more serious and not a player you want down if you're North Carolina again we mentioned Fox one of the players that's gotten the call-up to the US Women's National Team camp coming up she's a nominee for the Hermann Trophy for the most talented players on this roster you hate to see her down you a moocher arrow was warming up over there for the Tar Heels take a look at the bracket eight teams left at the beginning of today UCLA has moved on to the College Cup Stanford looks like they're well on the way with a four nothing leave against BYU and a tough one there for South Carolina time up right now with Washington State the winner that game meets the winner of this one not a good sign for Tar Heel fans Emily Fox carrying off the field Claudia Dickey the teammate goalkeeper helping out the athletic trainer it looks like rue moocher arrow will be the sub who comes in for the Tar Heels you hope everything is okay for Emily Fox as moocher arrow does come on to the pitch Fox again such a key player and the goal score tonight for the Tar Heels hoping to get update on her after going down and hurting her left ankle so Dicky of playback is North Carolina and USC is back on the way here in the second half just about nine minutes gone both teams have taken a handful of shots but we're still at once here's new Toronto with a step-over cross attempt and it is going to be blocked by Ward but it'll hurt North Carolina a corner kick their 5th of the match some immediate impact from room moocher era off the bench redshirt senior takes it down the flank and does a really good job of trying to sleep the ball inside but give credit to the Trojan backline was done an incredible job dealing with North Carolina's offense today Rubin Moy plays it in looking for bail little too far Andrew jetskis there as well Pinto settles can't get the shot off and that'll be cleared away PC plays it right back forward Taylor out a lot of time for her she'll send it towards the back post by the Tar Heels and quite see who grabbed that one I think it was sophomore Brianna Pinto who be credited with that bull we'll take another look in great work on the outside so much time in space its virgin and rejewski who heads it down in its sophomore Brianna Pinto with the finish and her jet ski has been such a key player today and to see Brianna Pinto on this team to get a goal would be good enough to be to Ontario's Goethe put herself in a perfect position as Andrew Jeske fed it right to her her 11th goal on the season the Tar Heels out in front for the first time tonight what kind of answer does the Trojans have now be interesting to see how they counter that but Breanna Pinto a sophomore was 20 accolades again she's on that Berman trophy watchlist she's gotten call ups but a cool story both her parents also Tar Heels her dad played soccer here her mom a fabulous Tar Heel on the softball team as well so we go by her and good to see her get on the board couple of assists handed out on that goal from Pinto Andrew Jeske picks up her 8th on the season while Taylor Auto the team captain picks up her second this year referee having a quick word with brooder after she commits another card foul on the far sideline it was Rachel Jones earlier this time it's Mucha rarest gems flying out of bounds and so direct traffic gonna play it into the corner for Andrew Jeske and Drew Jeske immediately crosses it pushed out of bounds by Collins every state was already out so that'd be a goal kick for the Trojans can't say enough about Bridget and rejewski playing on the outside finds herself open so many times in this game so far of course sends out one wide but this senior has really stepped up this game and been crucial in the office playing in a different position with the substitution moocher era coming on for the injured Emily Fox Andrew Jeske has switched from the far side of the field to the near side how long the will have to battle with Ward will have to handle Julia Bingham on the near side pressure from the Tarheels making it very difficult for USC to get that ball through the midfield and that was one of the things that Coach MacAlpine had keyed on was the midfielders finding the outlet to beat that Tar Heel pressure mentioned it last half but again will be really interesting to see what's more subs come on for North Carolina power let's see it deals with that pressure and deals with the death of their roster has it taken away by Pinto she tries to play it up field good hustle sin hired to gain the weigh-in at once and then win it back temporarily now the pressure from the Trojans making it tough for those Carolina to get upfield and here comes a foul from behind and that's against boo there it is and there's a yellow top no surprise there you mentioned Emily Fox before and then you cherry this time ruff fouls this one's from behind any time foul is from behind it tends to be a pretty easy call for the red but especially with how she's played so far no surprise that a card was taken out Reuter with a couple of assists on the season we'll have to be careful the rest of the way Claudia dicted coming out of goal to take this free kick for the Tar Heels tomorrow with a good flick link towards the middle of the field where it's gathered in by the Trojans alongside Natalie Bodi I'm Kyle Stroud thank you for joining us tonight on ACCC network extra a trip to the College Cup on the line North Carolina trailed war nothing tied up before half and Brianna Pictou has given them their first lead here in the second half as the Trojans look for some offense long pass ahead intended for Hawking who scored that goal in the first half since then though we hadn't really called her name the Trojans haven't been able to find a way to get her free where's the Trojans very comfortable in they score first they do it almost all the time but North Carolina comes out and they grab the first goal of this second half all of a sudden USC is playing a little bit more lackluster than they were initially can't connect on that last pass as it goes right to awaiting Dickey again it could just be the fatigue that comes as this game goes along 31st minute of the second half and again once that next wave of sub comes on subs come on that's really gonna be us he finds himself being tested can they hold up 7080 minutes can they find something to counter against North Carolina pressure in nearside they're able to get it away I was Hawking in the middle of the field Macy bail up from the back line so are you looking to get back to the College Cup you've been there 27 times in their history having won the national championship 21 times under Anson Dorrance 41 years for him as the head coach of the Tar Heels now no wonder he named the field after him probably thinking about time but of course they built this beautiful new facility and everything dedicated to Anson Dorrance but what a coach and definitely one of the best of all time got the best of all time and all the accolades he has all the wings he has you just cannot say enough about Anson high it a little late on that tackle whistled for the foul go back to the Tar Heels thing that's crazy to me about North Carolina and all of their successes you look at how many times they've made the college cup they've made the quarterfinals just about as many times 27 1 & 2 when they've made it to this point of the season with Carolina gets here they see the prize and more often than not a lot more often than that they've moved on to that College Cup you said it is North Carolina's 31st quarterfinal appearance of course on the other side of things Southern California has been here now three times the other two ending in national championships for them in oh seven and in 2016 kind of like a microcosm for this game North Carolina has had many more opportunities 16 shots five on goal USC's had seven shots four of which have been on board looks like that first wave of subs ready to come in for the Tar Heels as USC works their way down that far sideline Bing up top of the 18 Hawking shot off the crossbar ball is still loose Mikio tried to get a head on it another shot and there you have it there's the equalizer we see a Southern California finds a response before that giant wave a subs can come on for the heels hawking she hits the crossbar done yet he won't rise to take a crack at it there it is the finish will be from number 21 Natalie Jacobs the Notre Dame transfer for the Trojans and that'll be 2 to 2 it will be interesting to see how things change with that new wave of Carolina players on the field force goal on the season for Jacobs huge answer down the Trojans see what the Tar Heels can do with those new subs we saw in the first half the final 15 minutes that came in and they really picked up the pace that's when they scored the game-tying goal can they get back out in front with those subs on the field again tied at twos here in unusual position for UNC against bull by Hawking and the first minutes of this one was the first ever goal scored at dorrance field leading up to this game North Carolina have reported a shutout streak of 19 games Woodward gonna get credited for the assistant Amy Jacobs goal second assist on the year would work two goals given up by Carolina the first two given up in this tournament as they hit outscored opponents 10 to nothing here's Pierce past English note whistle from the raft children's finally clear it away to look like maybe she got from behind she's kind of stumbling to catch up to that one the crowd definitely agrees is there going on but breakfast a play on trickling keeps it alive Collins gets to it just before the Tar Heels Canada gamboling the freshmen making a run at it so both served in by woman boy headed on and again that's Pearce trying to get on that one hard to tell how hard she was hit from behind looks like it might have been even good coldest a play on but good Chancellor her from the lofty ball from Illinois Mueller with a long run from midfield brooder lets one go at the right foot a little bit high will be a goal kick for the Tar Heels two goals scored by USC in the game matched the most given up by the Tar Heels in a single game this season despite the fact the Tar Heels only gave up eight goals coming into this game they'd actually given up to three different times throughout the season the first one being a 3-2 win at Washington then they gave up two and a two nothing lost to Arkansas their only loss on the season they also gave up two and a three to wind down at Miami Pierce gonna switch fields for the Tar Heels try to get it to gambol pass off the mark and it'll go back to the Trojans Tar Heels out shooting USC but shots on goal Trojans with six to just five for Carolina the last 25 we'll see how they respond to North Carolina's substitutions of course this USC team injury written right now six or seven of their key players the bench with injuries this season Dorsia the good Ron gets past the couple Oh defenders leaves it for Schultz she'll press it with the right foot Strickland on the other end of it Kiki back on frame great ball from the seniors Schultz outside again that's a senior Scholl she serves this one in pass can bone spur strickland who's wide open on the backside but she'll miss that one with some frustration after that place she knew how wide-open she was talked about the tournament success for the Tar Heels earlier for USC maybe not quite as much but they can't hang their hat on the fact that they are one of just four brands that have everyone more than one national championship the first team out of the pac-12 to ever achieve that and they did it back in 2016 which was the last time they made it to the College Cup oh seven being the other title for them so when they have the opportunity they've got a team that's good enough they've been able to get the job done which MacAlpine thinks he's got another squad that can make that kind of a run great ball there from the day as she flicks it on plumped her able to track back good hustle from the defender what's this USC team also is won a national championship more recently the North Carolina as well so you said it both teams multiple national championships under though their belt a couple of veteran programs that's why it's been such a good matchup tonight you all night last coach MacAlpine about that 2016 you've got some players left around that won that national championship how much do you rely on them to talk to the younger players about really how to handle the tournament and he said of time they've been there they know how to do it we try not to focus so much on the game by game aspect and the pressure but more of just what the experience is like the day game chase we're gonna get a whistle behind the play she was held up by the defender Ward get the Tar Heels a free-kick deep in Trojan territory we're gay with four goals and an assist on the season a dangerous player off the bench for Carolina looks like just a two-person wall that's the dynamic duo that is hockey and Mickey own who will set up in front of Mubin war he will take this free-kick and how about that freshman Maci Bell incredible on the back line but always a target for set-pieces she'll put her team up 3-2 to take a look back open moister this fall and what a textbook header for Macy Bell gets in front of her defender perfect form they're just heads that one near post and beats Collins and Macy Bell a stellar defensive performance but also incredible on the offense early as well ACC freshman of the year known for her defense helping the Tar Heels here on offense third goal on the season for her and for a lot to woobin Loy her seventh assists on the year we thought we were gonna have a good one when we saw the matchup but one seeded Tar Heels are two seated Trojans we've gotten that and more here tonight back and forth these two go Brooklyn plays that one into space then Schultz get to it before goes out of bounds she does what are you gonna say you did not and give it back to us see they get hustle there by the seniors Schultz on the outside from here it looked like it might have caught in the foot of the Southern Cal defender but ref says no while trying to send it near side that passed easily taken away shakeups looks to get it ahead here's hawking fell in front of her at the throne ballots gonna go out of bounds but USC will get a corner from it what a tackle from freshman Maci Bell again on both sides of the ball she just grabs a goal and then prevents one on the other side but earn and they'll be Hawking pulling it back at it but what a clean sliding tackle print that I want to make it just a corner kick Trojans play that one quick on the corner ball loose top of the 18 Gulf was down gets to her feet and sends it away Trojans were looking for a flag on a hand ball Bingham with the long pass Dickey wait and at the top of the 18 tiptoes those sidelines like she's a wide receiver as she snatches it out of the air multi-sport athlete of course Claudia Dickies got basketball season up next but didn't know she also made the boys a baseball all-star team at age nine so quite the athlete is goalkeeper Claudia Dickey droll ahead to read a trying to give it back but it's taken away by the Trojans now over top Strickland making a run Collins there Strickland got to it first is gonna help out though Ward saves their day and keeps this one a 3-2 game what a volley from the freshman Alexis Strickland this ball sent over the top by Maisie Bell gets a foot on it perfectly it looks like it's gonna sneak inside the post but just not enough pace to get behind the defenders that are checking back looks like that one was number 34 USC natalie ward but great hustle by her the credit Alexis Strickland for being the right place right time and getting a finishing touch on it even though USC got the first goal and had the answer to tie it up at two you feel like with under 20 to go if they give up another goal and go down to that's a little bit too much to ask the team to come back to against North Carolina Popkin giving chase on the far side defended by dorsey hawking with the right foot comes back to the left takes the shot we've been more i got in the way of that one Dorsey with the clear attempt it's still out there tie it with a shot and it's going to trickle out of bounds all of that results in a USC corner Carolina has to be a little bit cleaner on their backline they've Witt whiffed a couple of clearances we need one by Dickey and again us he is so dangerous you just cannot afford to do that especially just one goal lead third corner of the game for the Trojans this one into the box Bell got a head on it first back into the 18 that was played by Bingham Tar Heels clear it away finally up past midfield over near the scoring table where Anson Dorrance has the starters waiting come back on to the pitch far side again to high it endorsee both they're on defense when Carolina will win it away the day picks it up near midfield his gambol nice ball to strip them in stride she does the same for Schultz Schultz gonna cross that one it got deflected by Ward and Collins scoops it up off to the bounce when he moves on to the college cup see there the Tar Heels have the offense not used to giving up many goals but they have the offense to sustain it when they do this is really impressive to see if you're coach Anson Dorrance your team goes behind they score again and equalize they equalize a second time just a good game to have under your belt going forward knowing that you can play from behind and play these different situations and not give up 67 goals scored by the Tar Heels on the season 10 given up for USC 47 goals scored he have allowed 27 voice um to clear that up past midfield that's gonna stay in bounds and roll all the way back down to the back third for USC dr. P plays it near side Bingham back to plunker Solano on over they had a Dorsey she got a piece of it it's honking running on the near side Jones with her feet nice slide tackle from Lugovoy what I tackled from this time woman why keeps it inbounds to keeps possession for her team it's like now it'll go the other way but a great defensive effort take another look at this defense here for a move in Moy the junior such a gaba coming in good timing being tackled to and again she gets up and she keeps possession for her side that was actually Taylor macmorrow this sub came in just a couple minutes ago foul against the Tar Heels at midfield nice Paul sir again unfortunately the flick went right to Dickey if you're a Trojans fan she's gonna hold on to this one Carolina is gonna want to use every bit of the clock that they can only a one goal leave you just cannot be sure against this USC side so offensive minded definitely not going to give up in the last 14 minutes of this half hambone plays it back to Lois Joel first year for Joel on the team nearly got going through that defense for day making a run on the backside the passing from the Trojans they get it up towards midfield movin loin this plays that one Joel not going to get to it in time and it'll be a throw-in for the Trojans Jacobs quickly picks it up thinks otherwise and will now hand it off with the throw and the whistle goes against the Tar Heels virgins inching their way up the field they get themselves in good position for the free-kick pumped her to take it touched by a couple of Trojans cleared away by the heels flick back in all the way to deke since the third goal scored by the Tar Heels which put them back out in front USC has been pushing more on offense they've gotten some opportunities now up to 13 shots in the game and orange squad they had a good 15 minute break on the sideline nice ovation from the crowd leading out those substitutions and bringing on the starters who are gonna try to close out these last 12 minutes but Kyle you said it USC now with 13 shots to UNC's 15 at one point UNC was out shooting them three to one but 1111 selling minutes left why not push offense this could be your last game of this season coach McHale finds his get numbers up give us a chance Nikki on back on to the pitch for the Trojans as they get all their big guns on offense out there ball one here at midfield by Jacobs she's gonna send it to the far side Nikki oh mickey own to the left foot takes a shot Bell got in the way of it moving boy clears it away we saw settles at mid group for the Tar Heels just too much time and space for a player like Mickey own who again 15 goals on the year 7 assists the pac-12 forward of the year cannot let her take that shot when she's inside the 18 you look at the statistics and this is about as even of a match as you could have hoped for a few more shots for the Tar Heels but seven on goal from each team five corners to three in favor of the Tar Heels and that hasn't been the story with every game this Elite Eight set of matchups of course UCLA winning four to zero over Florida State and Stanford being four goals over BYU and the first half of that game Tar Heels forcing us C to play that one back try to spread things out before they get it ahead for Mickey own on Deep fans here's the shot from high it's gonna go wide to the goal winner moves on to the College Cup who will they play well there's a game going on to decide that still scoreless in the second half though South Carolina and Washington State one team has already punched their ticket that was UCLA and now a five nothing lead Natalie for Stanford over BYU looks like it'll be a UCLA Stanford College Cup on the other side of the bracket that side of the bracket again a lot less clothes for goal margin in both of those wins whereas we have a three to two game and a 0-0 game so interesting to see school ends like that and the quarterfinals packed with a burst of speed but can't get to that one in time pumped are able to beat her out by a half a step both the freshmen on screen of course got a greased the third round against Michigan courtesy of a pair of alessio Rousseau assist none here tonight but looking to sneak one Joel crosses that one in and drew Jess ki-moon trying to get around horde crosses that one it's going to go out of bounds off of Haiti the Tar Heels will have themselves a corner it'll be the sixth of the game three in the first half three here in the second half again that senior Bridget Andrew Jeske on the outside putting the moves on out of Lee ward does it get that one in it takes a deflection but how crucial is she been for the Tar Heels and just building up different offensive plays creativity on the outside and just creating all types of chances Mugen boy will play it in for Carolina looking for Cox that was a Trojan who got a head on it pizza with the shot defense to the task again bill will play one but out of bounds as it's wide of it all good look for Pinto just too much traffic it's a really good job of settling this ball and getting a shot off as quickly as she can but he said it Kyle it's difficult when you got about ten white jerseys in front it was again Julia Ben she was the one who got a foot on Andrew Jesse shot in the first half that nearly tied the game just stopped it on the goal line and they're hoping out a goalkeeper heading away the Pinto shot one of the all pac-12 team selections for the Trojans at the end of the regular season course this is a veteran side or a veteran backline rather for USC Trojans through their defenders that are part of the team record-setting team for the best goal differential and USC season history only giving up 11 goals that entire season and if we gonna call this one back you must see God feel a little too much before they threw it in seven they go evades getting a nice kick to the face there so she's feeling lucky that she's sneaked out of that one sends a ball near side footrace that Cox will win and she gets to it the freshman heads towards the corner tended by Bingham stops the first girl does the same with the second but he took a lot of bounds and the Tar Heels get another corner this time they were able to waste about 30 seconds surprise here not see Isabel ticket to the corner and just hold it there as you see some older veteran players do but she's actually probably better off she earned the corner she's wasting time and this way a little less obvious I was easy to get called but he said it they're trying to lose time six minutes left even though I asked the crowd to get involved they respond sir frost is immediately sent out by the Trojans Taylor Otto going to gather it up for the heels in tow - Joel - over the cross attempt block by Bingham and it is going to be another Tar Heel corner good work here by Carolina however he does have a okay doors included five corners in the journey this match that earned themselves three here in the last couple of minutes good news not taking your foot off the gas can't be too comfortable with just a one-goal lead back post looking for bail just a little bit over her head we see the Jones Rousseau not gonna get to that one too much pace on paths from Jones it's a goal kick for the Trojans five minutes to go it's all he was looking to get back to the College Cup USC trying to find the equalizer so they can get there for the third time in school history scoring started in the first half it was Penelope Hawking who scored the game's first goal for USC they had the lead for the majority of that first half before Emily Fox was able to weed her way through the defense and he pull it up into the second half and it was Briana Pinto putting the Tar Heels out in front okay Isaac from Jacobs and then Maisie Belle with her third goal on the year Jones with the shot Jones just wide of the wall it all started with the steal from Breanna Pinto really physical clay and then it's Russo's gonna slide the ball to Rachel Jones who cuts it's hurt your foot it's a great shot just wide five minutes left and the Tar Heels are not letting off the gas they'll just got a piece of that one before Hawking could settle it then to across midfield Walter loses it as she was trying to connect with Mickey oh and picked up just gonna sand it up field over top the clock down to three minutes left the Trojans have anything their sleeve can they make some magic happen and find a way to tie it up tox takes that one away plays it to Jones show head right to that corner waiting on the defender Bingham come some help plunk turn now over there Jones able to get it over the Rousseau Rousseau now into the corner Rousseau holding off to Trojans it goes out of bounds and stays with the heels a good job I worry so holding the ball there let the clock run out and what do you see posing teens really try to send numbers flying forward of course this has not had that chance it's been all North Carolina on their half in the last five don't heels have done a fantastic job here in the last seven minutes of the game of just eating clock up when they've been able to get possession peep-toes was looking for some space finds drug beds one two nice pass to Lou so she one touches to Jones back to the pin three Trojans there they're able to take it away and finally the Trojans good possession back but under a minute 30 left though given what russo takes it for the heels immediately goes to the corner how to like the heads-up play there from the junior instead of thinking maybe I can try and score get to that corner flag and waste for a couple of more precious seconds blowen goes to mickey own Mikio shaken up behind the play for us see as Joel sends it back towards the USC goal and so does a good job of getting him around the Trojan McMorrow back to Dorsey under 30 for the Tar Heels so gets away that one and it's in balance all to herself great effort the cloth gonna run out for us see the Tarheels moving on to their 28th college cut in 4 Stewart what a fantastic wind by North Carolina if you're on the Trojan side you can be too disappointed they played on top of course grab the first two goals ever scored against North Carolina if this team in the end one sees depth one out and they will book their ticket to the College Cup a great matchup here in the quarterfinals the 1 seed versus the 2 seed the Tar Heels go down early they find a way to get on top equalizer comes from the Trojans but the Tar Heels with one more in their bag they move on to the semi-final they'll take on the winner a South Carolina Washington State who is now getting ready to go into overtime but the Tar Heels don't have to worry about that right now they can celebrate this win and their trip to the College Cup three goals for the Tar Heels and they are the winners here this evening Maisie Bell the freshman of the year out of the ACC had the game-winner off of that one from Rueben Loy we'll be right back with a wrap-up here at torrance feet you so he'll faithful sticking around to celebrate with their team as the Tar Heels punched their ticket to the College Cup the day started with eight teams vying for four spots in the college cup so far we have the read that we know will go on the Tar Heels one of them earlier today UCLA beating Florida State's of the defending national champions are gone UCR to me Stanford going final 5:1 over BYU and over time for that South Carolina Washington State game the winner will take on the Tar Heels next Friday that game out at San Jose California Tar Heels in search of their 23rd national championship three goals is what it took for the Tar Heels to get past the Trojans they found themselves down early but it was Emily Fox who was able to get them on the board in the first half corset build-up comes from that dynamic duo weak heat on Hawking and mix you in this time McCune will go to Hawking who will get the first goal of the game no surprise there they struck first they struck early but what a great finish by Hawking to get her team on the board stuff it'll be Emily Fox and individual firepower from her beats three defenders cuts inside and gets the equalizer for her side in the 39th minute and what a great individual talent to beat three players and put that one in the back of the net weren't done yet this fall from Andrew Jeske we finished off by sophomore Breanna Pinto and her Jeske just magnificent the entire on the outside and gets the assists here weren't finished and then you see USC comes from this one hits the crossbar it's Natalie Jacobs will come for the rebound and again puts that one in the back of the net but excuse me Hawking hit the crossbar when gathered up inside the box and Jacobs with the finishing touch after a couple deflections I'll be good enough to make it 2-2 to open boy we'll send this one in in freshman Maci Bell ACC freshman of the Year usually on defense gets up and get some offense this time for her team to nab the game-winner make it 3-2 two Tar Heels freshmen for the Tar Heels have been so key it's fitting that it's a freshman that gets the game-winning goal and pushes them into the College Cup for the 28 times in school history first time that North Carolina has given up any goals this postseason it took until the fourth game but I guess you can look at that as a good thing you've won the game now you don't have to go into the college cup thinking okay we haven't given anything up yet what do we do if that happens again writing that 19 game shutout streak they had not given up a game or excuse me a goal at dorrance field but if your Maci Belle you can't feel too bad if you go ahead and score the game-winner after getting scored on yourself but you said it they came from behind twice and they equalized a great game to have under your belt going forward everybody on that USC sideline should have their heads held high a great game that came up just short their season finishes at 17 five and one the Tar Heels though win their 23rd game of the season and now 21 one and one gave up a couple of goals but had enough firepower to fight their way through that's our heels on to the College Cup and we thank you for joining us tonight to watch this entire game on replay as well as other games on ACC
