Norse Mythology - Ragnarok

[Music] hello and welcome to another bard's tale lost tale I left you with Loki's final betrayal abandoning the Aesir in their darkest hour to join forces with the Odin's destroyers of the cosmos boulders death was the ignition of that engine of destruction known as the doom of gods the end times the apocalypse Ragnarok but many twisted paths lead to the end and Boulder is just one among many which all eventually lead to the same place and Loki's path was followed by three creatures of terrible nature who called Loki their father the slow crawling encroachment of the dark finality of the universe had always been felt by those who lived in the nine realms a suggestion of the end hidden behind the veil of reality though when this veil briefly lifted in the deepest darkest moments of sleep a horrible glimpse into the coming destruction would leave those who saw to share the prophecy of the end times man in Midgard would fall to nihilism abandoning their oaths and truths and disregarding the bonds they once cherished with their kin the Aesir though not much better than man in their abandonment of traditional ways well knew their end was to be with all other things in the cosmos when this prophecy came to pass and they refused to lay down arms whilst opportunity still remained one opportunity was to remove the most dangerous pieces which would come into play a common apocalypse and Loki's children were indeed considered to be some of the most dangerous human gand hell and Fenrir would all play a lead role in the fall of the gods they were the children of Loki and each suffered at the hands of the ones who feared them The Omen gained they threw into the ocean where he encircled Midgard and mankind within Hell was banished forever to become ruler of the underworld but Fenrir they feared too much they kept him under watchful I in Asgard rearing the pup themselves inside the fortress walls only tear a God of justice and honour and clearly bravery as well was of such fortitude that he would feed the young pup but the pup would not remain so for long and grew at an alarming rate to enormous size even tear realized things could not go on as they were the Aesir held council and decided that releasing him unfettered was a terrible idea as the amount of destruction he could rout was terrifying the gods decided they would have to bind the wolf but with his size and strength this task was a perilous one to test the chains that were to bind him they fooled the Fenrir into believing these were mere tests to challenge the beasts formidable strength in this way they gained his consent and would cheer when with every new chain placed around him he roared and shattered each none worked and so they called on the aid of the greatest Smiths they could imagine the dwarves of fought off him a messenger was sent and requested the strongest chain they could craft the dwarves were the greatest craftsmen in the cosmos but this task was a hefty one they rose to this challenge and crafted a chain of the sound of a cat's footsteps the hair of a woman's beard the roots of mountains the breadth of a fish and the spittle of a bird things of impossibility took form and became the chain known as gleep near the Asiya took the chain and presented it to Fenrir the giant ball finally became suspicious the chain was much lighter than the others before and was certainly some trick he saw some reassurance that all was as the Aesir had said Henry asked for a pledge of good faith the gods faltered they could not agree as this was not in good faith but tears stepped forward taking the pledge for the good of all living things Fenrir accepted this and lay down he demanded ta place his hand in his mouth should the Asiya approved broken their pledge Fenrir would take his hand gleipnir was wrapped around him and Fenrir was bound and though he struggled and shook the chains were harder and stronger than any before Fenrir bared his teeth and tore through tears wrists severing his hand from his arm tear was taken away and the gods thought now of what to do with a giant wolf they decided the fetid beasts best to be taken far away to somewhere dark and lonesome they found a place to this description and tied the chain to a boulder and then pierced Fenriz mouth of a sword so his mouth could never close Fenrir howled wildly and a thin creek of spittle from his Moore became a foaming River they would call van or expectation and so the Great Wolf would remain bound till Ragnarok where glade near would be shattered and the mighty Beast would run throughout the world with his lower jaw against the ground and his upper jaw in the sky becoming the great devourer he is faded to slay Odin after a great and terrible battle before finally being put to death by Odin's son the silent god Vader who would tear the wolf's jaws apart with his bare hands but the loosening of glutton his restraints is still a long time away and the river van still flows from the wolf's great more most need not worry till several indications hint at the coming end but these are all quite a time away and before that time another story must be told for foreshadows the death of a beloved God this is a tale of fare and his attempted courtship of the beautiful giant s GERD one day Odin left his throne unattended his throne from which one could look out upon the nine worlds and see all the venire god of fertility and fruitfulness frere sees this unexpected opportunity and sat himself on Odin's high throne from high atop the throne Freck could see the going ons of all the worlds and he watched with curiosity the actions of all living things but he became ensnared when he gazed upon Jotunheim and spotted a most beautiful giant s named GERD in you immediately that he must Wed her frere hopped from the throne to find his servants Koerner who he demanded go to the Hall of guy mere gods father to ask for his daughter's hand in marriage scone iya instead proposed that he himself would woo GERD for free if Fred would only would give him his horse and magic sword in return for his help Frere sick with love accepted immediately scone in you the journey the guy mares hall would be dangerous and so he rode for his horse and strapped his magical sword to his hip and for gifts scone he took some of Eden's golden apples of youth a golden arm ring and a portrait of God captured in a drinking horn scone ear wrote his new horse all the way to Jotunheim and passed through the curtain of fire which surrounded Diamond ears halt but he wrote no further for he saw that the entrance to the giant hole was guarded by two terrible hounds with mores like to tear him apart sitting on a grave mound nearby was a herdsmen who's gonna asked if there was any way to gain entrance to the great hole the herdsmen asked gonna if he was doomed to die or if he was already dead for what a preposterous idea it would be for a man who lived and wanted to keep living to ask guy mare if he could have an audience with his daughter scone iya responded briefly setting that these choices were better than sobbing about it and the day of his death was fated long ago coincidentally the conversation had drawn the attention of God who invited the visitor inside for a Horn of need once inside scone Ian made his reason for visiting clear and began to offer her gifts he was given as proof of frezz love and wealth but God relented stating that no one would buy her love scone iya became frustrated and resorted to intimidations threatening to behead her with his magical blade if she did not accept the proposal but she was unmoved stating again that her love could not be bought scone II was fury and so he cursed her I forbid this woman pleasure from any man you'll live always amongst three headed Giants and never once sleep with a husband prim Grimm near is the giant that will enjoy you in the gloom near hell's gates foul corpses will give you only goat's piss to drink that is the best drink that will be for you that is my curse God was shocked but at last gave in she never believed that she would swear love to one of the venire she consented to the marriage and told scone ears she would meet frere and a forest clearing in nine nights to be Wed scone Ian nodded and took his leave riding his horse back to Asgard there he found Freya pacing about and eagerly awaiting news of his beloved's response scone Ian told him she consented but that the wedding would not be for nine nights but Fred despaired one night is long two nights are longer how can I bear three a whole month is shorter than even half of such a premarital night there will come a time when fimble Vata a frigid winter which will last three years with no summers will grasp of the world crops will die people will starve oceans and rivers will freeze over and even the largest fires may provide little comfort from the ever-present chill wind then people will turn on each other bonds and oaths for gotten sons would murder fathers adultery and incest until no honor or kindness remained in the world this is an age of axes swords wolves and winds on the third year of the fimble delta three cries will echo across the nine realms the first will come from a Red Rooster called fiala his cry will alert the Giants telling them that Ragnarok is begun a second roosters cry will travel through the land of the dead informing all who dwell there that the end is coming and the third a rooster called Gillen can be well known in the halls of Valhalla will finally crow and as God will know that Ragnarok has come upon hearing Golan can bees cry the Aesir hold counsel in one of the majestic halls of Asgard Heimdall will play a specific tone on his trumpet the Gjallarhorn signaling the aim higher in Valhalla to take up arms and prepare for war the horn will also call on the aid of the dead gathered by Freya who herself had taken half the dead the Valkyries had gathered for Odin and placed them in folk Vanga the field of the host Odin had agreed to let Freya take her pick first when the dead were gathered as a sign of goodwill towards the venire the dead march to vigor 'add the place of battles where they will make their last stand at this time the world darkens the sky is empty the stars have disappeared and the two wolves skull and hearty have swallowed Sun and Moon far below the serpent nidhogg constant Naurang of the roots of the world tree finally begins to bear fruit and he jociel trembles but now he senses the dead and flies up the tree to feed on all those who would die to quell his endless hunger the world is in chaos and amid this chaos the imprisoned Loki manages to free himself from his bonds and escapes to his daughter hell el and Loki travel across the sea which separates Midgard from Jotunheim we're human ganz now brings himself to bear ready to slay his nemesis Thor in Jotunheim the Giants board hell's ship the Naga far made of the claws of dead men along with a dishonorable dead Hell and Loki sailed to vigor 'add where they will make war on the Aesir and below Fenrir has broken gleipnir running in large bounds he climbs aboard the Naga far the horrid family stands together Loki and his three children he'll see omen gand and Fenrir along with a large host of giants and dead souls they will meet this year at Vigrid another host makes its move traveling from the south the sons of muscle Haim are led by their leader the fire Giants earth to meet God here his sons will trample and shatter the be frost which connects Asgard to Midgard and here he will begin an inferno which will ravage and consume all in its path the ravenous fires spread consuming the world of God and Nana like mankind burns in a hellish blaze but not all hidden within the forest of hoddan Amir are two humans lift and lift through seer who would outlast the fimble Volta the war of the gods and certs flames but more on them later now all the forces would gather on the battlefield vie grid a seer veneer Valkyrie and n Hera all stood against the coming horde Odin in his golden helmet and carrying his spear gum Nia said this though we will lose our lives and our world destroyed we will battle here so that these evil powers will not outlast us the Naga fire landed at figured and no sooner had it more than the giant shape of the wolf Fenrir left from the ship opening his giant more so wide it touched the ground and sky the all-father road sleep near to face him with his n hurrah and Valkyrie soon pined and tear the God who had lost his hand to the Beast his son Thor to his anger was unable to help his father for before him the nemesis human ganz rose and struck at him the battle was massive while the gods faced the greatest of the enemy hordes the dead and the Giants battled the first of all was Freire who battled against the Lord of fire Cert frere had lost his magical blade long ago when he struck a deal with a servant's Konya and so he was defenseless against the flaming giant saved for the stags antlers he wielded as a weapon so it's flew frere but the victory was short-lived as certain Ferno consumed the world he too would perish and it's all-consuming Roth many fell and amid this chaos Odin's battle with Fenrir took a fatal turn tear was slain and despite his valiant efforts in a final stand Odin was swallowed by Fenrir from nearby Vader Odin's son saw his father perish and ran at the wolf before Fenrir could react Vader had placed his foot firmly on his lower jaw pushing it into the ground and with his arms he pushed the Wolves upper jaw upwards Vader pushed with all his might to the Wolves more tore apart killing Fenrir instantly one of the fiercest enemies of the gods was now slain but so too was the greatest de ser but the time of mourning had not come and Thor still battled with the serpent it was a battle of titans both were becoming tired but yeoman gand was clearly the more exhausted of the two in a final act of desperation human gain the gullet swelled with venom which he would spray across the enemy causing countless deaths but Thor was quick and with a mighty crack of his hammer mjolnir he struck the serpent down he almond and fell and Thor stepped back nine paces but the Serpent's mouth burst open and the venom fell all over him Thor was blinded the venom choking him and burning his skin he struggled but eventually succumbed the world's defender and valiant guardian Thor perished now loki sprang from his daughters ship and ran straight at Heimdall guardian of the now destroyed be frost angel was no easy target however and the two battled equally they wore each other down with each blow till neither could move and there they both lay dead the flames of Cert roared about the world and nidhogg flew over the battlefield claiming the dead in his more everything was in chaos as the world sank into the boundless seas vanishing beneath the waves all was now perfect silence and darkness as it was in the days of Ginga gap but eventually the earth was once again raised from the ocean and was more lush and fruitful than it had ever been before the number of those who died in Ragnarok was without number and so it is more sensible to note those who lived their number is very few Balder returned from the underworld along with HOD who had been slain in vengeance once more stood upon the land of living alongside him were his brothers Valley and Lyda the two sons of Thor Modi and Magni with Mjolnir as well and Odin's brother ho near the old also god of the sea and protector of sailors would return to vana hang which may have survived Sert's flames Frigg Freya and some of the other goddesses as well had also survived but their number was not as great as it once was they traveled to the field that eat of all a place of renewal and they thought for a time and what to do in this new world they turned to the runes for guidance the runes suggested that above Asgard was the fabled heaven Gimli where dwelt on mighty Lord who would take them in and give them a home roof'd with gold the halls of Gimli were a distant beautiful echo of Asgard from Gimli with the remaining gods rule in endless happiness and light were returned to the world when the child of soul a woman as beautiful as she was picks up the reins of her mother's chariot and follows in her mother's path far below the figures of two humans a man and a woman make their way from the forest of HOD Minea they are left and left such here they survive the wanton destruction that wiped out the rest of their people by hiding in the special forest and feeding on the mourning Jew they will go on to repopulate the world and bring back the race of man this new age will be a bountiful one a time of peace joy happiness and rebirth but a speck of Darkness taints this otherwise perfect picture from beneath the still waters of the ocean draws forth the twisted form of need hog the terrible serpent who rises high into the sky and you Miraval corpses hang from its last wings casting a shadow across the world below [Music]
