every time a new generation of consoles is released we can be certain about a few things PlayStation will add a number to their bigger and better system Xbox will reveal some rectangular shaped console but they have trouble deciding if they want to stick with numbers or letters for their models and Nintendo well Nintendo comes up with something new every time I want to take a look back at four different models that I grew up around and discuss what made each one great but before we start I want to take a second to point out that 99% of the people who watch my videos are not subscribed thank you all so much for watching my content but if you'd like to keep up with me I highly recommend subscribing so you don't miss the next upload like this all right on with the video Let's just cover some Basics all right Nintendo was founded in Japan in 1889 it started out as Japanese plan card company little did they know in 100 years time they'd be on the rise of dominating the video game Market 96 years later the Nintendo entertainment system or the NES was released in North America two controllers gyromite and duck hunt the console performed so well that the company produced a sequel the Super Nintendo or the SNES the sess in 1990 between the rapid sales of home consoles and their handheld model the Game Boy you'd say Nintendo had a bright future ahead their third console however would flip the gaming world upside down 1996 was an important year in video game history as Nintendo released their third hit the Nintendo 64 for the N64 for short This Time games were in 3D well 64-bit gone were the days of the 2D Platformers where IGN Mario across the same mind numbing levels over and over again the thought of having a three-dimensional open world to discover was completely unheard of thanks to games like Mario 64 we could do just that in a previous video I played the N64 for the first time that's right in the year 2024 I played a nearly 30-year-old console for the very first time no I didn't grow up the N64 fact I really didn't grow up with Nintendo at all I lived in a PlayStation household I mean I had a Game Boy in a DS like what what kid didn't I kind of remember my GameCube but then again it wasn't a PS2 I always heard stories though the N64 was the gaming console it had all the classics I mean it's run through real quick right Super Mario 64 Zelda Ocarina of Time original Smash Bros Mario Kart 64 golden eye Star Fox Banjo Kazooie you name it the N64 had it the only time I really cared for the console was in videos like top 10 wrestling games which always had WWF no mercy at number one plus it still had cartridges too like who still uses those we play off of discs now N64 had some charm to it though I mean after playing it now I can see why people love it it is the ideal couch multiplayer system I can only imagine the summer nights back in the day between school when get three of your best friends over and Mom just ordered Pizza Hut and you're on your third Mountain Dew as you shove Mario Kart into your 64 the controller was very unique too I think it may have been ahead of its time in one scenario you'd hold it normally to play Zelda or WWF but from Mario Kart you find yourself holding the middle section with the joystick we can talk about the N64 all day they're rare color variants the game library is historic they competed along ongs side the Sega Saturn and Sony's inaugural console the PlayStation it defined a generation of gaming and deserves its place in the gaming Hall of Fame after the turn of the Millennium it was once again time for Nintendo to release their next Home console 2001 was the year the world was introduced to perhaps the most underrated console of all time the Nintendo GameCube I talked about the six gen consoles a lot in my previous video so if you're interested in hearing more about the PS 2 or the Xbox or even more about the GameCube then consider checking that out I'll drop a link to it like I said earlier I did own a GameCube my Cube was really cool but I didn't quite know what I had at the time looking back I'd say I was off to a great start I remember the menu being unlike anything I'd ever seen eventually all my game boys and DS's and the GameCube were sacrificed for a PS4 One Summer the only thing that the GameCube lacked was online connction activity Nintendo wanted to capture the magic of couch multiplayer after it was so successful with the N64 they didn't realize that internet gaming was on their eyes thus the GameCube lacked in sales it quickly became a third option compared to the PS2 and Xbox and while it still had hits like Mario Sunshine Metro Prime Luigi's Mansion the GameCube still didn't get a chance to shine and because of this Nintendo had to bounce back hard to stay in the game bounce back they most certainly did we gave you D A New Game Boy and new game to play on them and now you say you want Revolution well we've got one what do you remember from 2006 the movies the TV shows what about that new game that you got for Christmas A companied by a commercial with two guys pulling up in a smart car saying we would like to play Nintendo released their most Innovative console to date Nintendo Wii what is a Wii why is the remote a TV controller why does the menu look like a TV guide Nintendo could have chosen to fully embrace the online gaming Community like the PS3 and Xbox 360 did they chose not to instead they created a system that could be enjoyed by anyone from kids to grandparents everyone could play Wii it was simple there were no confusing buttons to press most of the games were played by the one-of-a-kind gamechanging revolutionary motion sensing controller motion control in 2007 well yes wi Sports was included with the every purchase of a Nintendo wiii it was completely reliant on motion Control Function you could actually play baseball go bowling have a boxing match while by swinging your arm in Emotion similar to its real life counterpart a nunchuck was included too it acted as an attachable joystick the next time you look at an N64 controller look at that middle section I talked about and then look at the Wii nunchuk we had a successful and huge Library Beyond Wii Sports Mario Kart Wii was a hit it utilized a steering wheel accessory to help the boost the racing experience Super Mario Galaxy was the next 3D Mario game Zelda and Smash Bros they both received their next installments too just dance became a household name I remember that being an option at gym class we promoted a healthy lifestyle too by offering games like we fit all of these reasons led to it being in the top five best-selling consoles of all time the Wii would become part of the family essentially besides playing games you could check the weather look at photos watch Netflix browse the internet or you could have that calming menu music on in the background what about those old GameCube games oh don't worry we is backwards compatible with the GameCube even though Nintendo tried to make a sequel with their Wii U System the idea of playing handheld TV was a few years too early with the console war still raging on as Sony released their PlayStation 4 and Microsoft introduced the Xbox One Nintendo continued to not follow the mle by once again redefining what it means to play video games Nintendo switch was introduced in 2017 as the company's second and more successful attempt at a hybrid console what is the switch doesn't really sound like a game console after the DS family discontinued and the Wii U accepted defeat Nintendo created One console to serve every purpose what if you could play a game on the go but when you got home you could dock it at your TV and play on the couch Nintendo switch is the answer the switch operates as a handheld similar to that of the game boy or a Home console similar to the GameCube you can play it anywhere at any time Nintendo even included a prop for the screen in case you wanted to set it on the table while you're away from the dock the system is the total package besides the ability play on the move or stationed it also had motion sensing controllers digital downloads online subscription that includes a backwards compatible like library and a whole library of new age Classics like Super Mario Odyssey Zelda breath of the wild various Pokémon titles the system still advertises couch multiplayer or Starbucks multiplayer if you so choose they also have an online community though I've never tried that still new to the switch so far I'm very impressed Nintendo ended up releasing an OLED version and a light version switch is still on the market and rumors of a successor grow louder every day Nintendo switch is a perfect beginner console for any player it's easy and convenient to use took some time but I think Nintendo finally stroke gold the four consoles I mentioned are great in their own right I have experiences with all of them while I'm still new to switch and I wasn't around to experience peak of the N64 I can honestly say that Nintendo's never really failed each system offered something different than the last and they're still a loyal fan base all around the globe N64 and Wei are relatively cheap you can find them at flea markets or retro game stores switch is still available in stores like Walmart and Target the GameCube is becoming pricey these days it's kind of at a point where it's nostalgic to the 9s and 2000s kids so now it's becoming hard to find these games are Timeless too Mario and other multi-stem titles will continue to live on way past us I hope you enjoyed this Nintendo retrospective it's fun to look back on the systems that we grew up with they grew up with us and served a purpose that we needed the memories that were made can never be forgotten Nintendo is more than a video game company they're a birthday party host they're way to bond with the kids they're a friend when no one else is there thank you Nintendo for everything thank you so much for watching if you enjoyed this video consider subscribing to the channel leave a comment below too let's talk about it like and share with your friends and we'll see you
