Nintendo Switch eShop Hidden Gems you NEED to Play!

I have a confession to make I completely forgot to do this video last month for something that I pride myself on doing monthly spaced it I did the eShop video where I looked at all arcade ports and then completely spaced my standard eShop hidden gems video what's going on everybody I'm Jay welcome to square pegs glad you're here you look fantastic today today we are going back to the Nintendo switch ehhop I'm going to find you 10 games that you can be adding to your digital or in many cases physical Library let you know what I think about them let you know about games I dig and we are going to come back at the end and chat about them so what do you say let's kick things off real quick before I get into kind of the blurb about every single game I want to let you know there's links details on the game there I love arcade racing games and one of my favorites on the Nintendo switch is the original Horizon Chase turbo so when Horizon reached out to me and said hey would you like a review code for the second one I immediately jumped on it because how could it not be spectacular and you know what I'm 100% right it's spectacular if you enjoyed the first horizon Chase turbo you are going to love Horizon Chase 2 the game is gorgeous absolutely stunning to look at a beautiful mix I think Gary from Rock Solid production put it best when he said it's a beautiful mix of things like RC proom and rad Racer or rad Racer and outrun that's what it was and it is absolutely that it is the best of the best kind of arcade racing action it is so much fun it has a solid challenge but it is forgiving in the way that you play it because you learn the track you learn the way you're supposed to play and as you upgrade your car there's replay value built in because as your car gets upgraded and that's also the only way you're going to Gold Medal some track oh God I just love this game it's so much fun if you love arcade Racers Horizon Chase 2 needs to be on your list it is a spectacular title again thank you to the publisher for the review code because I just I'm just tickled that you even thought of me or considered me for because it's just a magnificent game $24.99 is a steal for this title it's wonderful this might be the least hidden of the Hidden gems I've ever talked about on the ehhop before but I want to bring it up because I don't know that everyone knows that this game is actually on the switch this is Cave Story plus if you're not familiar with Cave Story it is possibly one of the most influential independent games ever released this dropped in 2004 it's been around forever it has seen all kinds of ports on all kinds of different consoles I even have a copy of the freeware version that originally released ported onto a Genesis card and it's amazing but this is the plus version now this is a classic Metroid Vania it is a classic game where you wake up as a character quote you're going through you have to discover your powers your abilities you have to increase your potential and you have these incredible incredible levels that you're going to need to Traverse and Mysteries that you're going to have to solve It's a Wonderful game it is a magical experience and if you are a fan of metroid vanas or just a fan of independent gaming and you've never played this you absolutely have to it is one of the most influential independent video games of all time and at a $29.99 price point it's absolutely worth checking out it's a brilliant game there's a phrase I like to use on this channel where I say sometimes a game is important and it's not necessarily something that's kind of genre defining like a game like Gears of War or Batman Arkham Asylum but something that's a little bit deeper than that something that gets a little bit more down into the emotion of things now I don't share a lot about my personal life on the channel and it's just the way I am but that's there's something I need to share here just based on my life because of this game this is a cat and his boy I am a product of a divorced house and I was very lucky growing up because I knew my mother loved me I knew my grandparents Lov me I knew I was going to be taken care of and I was going to be accepted and loved but it's still hard to grow up that way and wonder why doesn't your parent love you why doesn't the parent that isn't there care and pets are a big part of being able to cope with that trauma and kind of work through that in this game here a cat and his boy is important in that regard you play as midnight a kitten who is helping Leaf the boy from the title cope with the fact that his parents divorced and it's about his journey towards not necessarily acceptance but understanding I guess is probably the best way to put it and just realizing that he's not alone and that there's always someone there even if it is just a mischievous little kitten this is an important game I I do think that it probably impacts me a little bit more just because of my background and who I am but I am just truly in awe of the story they told and how beautiful of a story it was and it's only like an hour long you can get through it in one sitting it's magnificent a cat and his boy is $2.99 thank you to the publisher for providing the review code on this one uh they reached out to me on Twitter and asked if I was interested in trying it and the premise alone made me intrigued it's it's pretty magical you know sometimes you just need a dumbass game that you can lose yourself in and have some fun with and there is no better example of that than trombone champ this game is stupid just straight up this is one of the dumbest video games I've ever played but damn if it isn't addictive and damn if it isn't Fun you're playing a trone there's a series of songs that you're able to choose from and you play and you move yourself around on the screen by playing by using the motion controls in your controller to determine where the slide is going to be and when a note crosses the line you pull the trigger to play the note it's ridiculous it's a wonderful rhythm game I love Rhythm games as it is and I think Rhythm games are at their best when they do not take themselves too seriously and trombone champ couldn't take itself seriously if it needed to it's fantastic I've had so much fun playing this one and it's just ridiculously good it's just a ridiculously good time $14.99 trone champ absolutely worth playing if you are all a fan of Rhythm games now I'm not going to blow smoke up your ass and tell you that I've been a fan of the Prince of Persia series since the first time I played it because I played the original Prince of Persia when I was a kid and it was way too hard for 10-year-old Jay just did not click for me it was not a game I enjoyed it was not a game I had fun with but I have loved the series since the sands of time launched back on Gen 6 it was something that immediately captivated my attention I thought the movement in the game and just the way you were able to just Traverse the different terrain options were incredible I thought the prince himself was wonderful and I thought that everything we have seen from Prince of Persia since then has been great so I met it with a little bit of trepidation when I first saw Prince of Persia the Lost Crown I was not a fan of the original 2D sides scrolling Prince of Persia so I was kind of afraid this is going to lean in that direction as well but instead we got this absolutely brilliant brilliant Metroid Vania featuring the universe of Prince of Persia this game is magnificent it is one of the strongest games that Ubisoft has released in years it is a fantastic title and I really do think this is something that a lot of people may have overlooked when it launched because it's from Ubisoft it has such a negative connotation to it that a lot of people just avoid the things they release and it's a shame because of this game here it's fantastic regular ticket price for this game is $49.99 however through June 20th 2024 it is going to be on sale for $29.99 for the standard edition or you can get the digital deluxe edition for $35.99 there is also a physical release of this one so if you're interested in having it that way be sure to look for it in stores and if you want to try before you buy there's a demo you can download as well I've had my eye on battles Chef Brigade Deluxe for literal years now this game originally released in 2017 on November 20th yes the year the Nintendo switch launched and it is a game that I have been interested in but I have never pulled the trigger on because I just I don't know it was just one of those ones that it never felt like I needed to jump on it and now that I have bought it I picked it up about a month and a half two months ago I regret passing by this game for years because of how incredible this game is I like cooking games anyway and I like games that take a match three approach and kind of turn it on its head by making it unique and that's what happens here because as you collect your different gems and things like that or your different ingredients which become the gems you need to determine what you're going to go with for your dish so are you going to make it spicy then you need to make sure you're collecting ingredients and fighting the enemies that provide spicy or fire gems if you want it to be a little bit calmer you need the water gems it's a ridiculously intelligent design a ridiculously fun design that just makes use of a gorgeous design aesthetic based on the character look and also just brings in all these brilliant gameplay options that I didn't expect to enjoy and didn't expect to work in Harmony as well as they do it's a fantastic game and something that I really think a lot of people need to try out and as a bonus it does have a demo so if you're curious at all about this game by looking at the footage on screen right now be sure to download the demo and check it out it's normally $19.99 cents though and if you are curious I do suggest this one it's really fun when Austin Ivan Smith reached out to me about notebook artillery I was a little bit skeptical because I looked at the tweet that he has pinned the top of his page and it says AI did all the art AI did all the programming AI did all the design not really a huge fan of AI so I was like I don't know I don't know if I'm going to and then I realized how much of a dumbass I am because his name is Austin Ivan Smith and this is a solo project and it's exactly the kind of game that I like to play to kind of turn my brain off this is a very simple and straightforward game where you are going to be using your artillery to attack the opposing artillery or to shoot at Targets or to play multiplayer to attack your opponent great it's a very simple and straightforward title like it's not anything that's going to do anything crazy in terms of gameplay it's just a simple physics game you determine the angle and the amount of gunpowder you want to use and you fire your cannon at your opponent or at the Target and you hope you hit it and if you don't rinse rep Pat do it again it's a really great way to spend 5 minutes or a really great way to spend an hour especially if you're doing multiplayer it's really fun notebook artillery is a fantastic game especially at a price point of $4.99 sense and thank you to Austin for providing a review code now straight up not a huge fan of undertale I've never connected with the game I think the music is brilliant I think Toby Fox is an underrated genius when it comes to music but the game just never clicked for me and that's okay it doesn't have to it's not made for me it's made for other folks and I love that they love it but a game like Athenian rap CID leans into the weird factor that was kind of established in games like undertale and Earthbound and just cranks that up to like 9 million and it's just such a bizarre game like I get very strong undertale and very strong almost Old School Musical Vibes on this one but it's kind of brilliant it's kind of brilliant so the basic premise of the game is you play as you it's a comedy RPG and you're exploring Athens your goal is to build friends you have to make friends in every single Rap City you go into and you can do that either by using the befriend option and using different actions to make your enemies like you more or you can just beat the hell out of them and gain more experience and then go and make friends with them afterwards the combat in the game is decidedly non-traditional when you have to attack there's a meter where you can actually use the meter to determine how much damage you're going to do but when your enemy attacks it becomes a mini game it's almost like Wario Weare where you need to avoid enemy attacks it's oh God it's just it's absolutely brilliant and I'm not even that far in like there's more puzzles and stuff like that that come up that are make that make this game even stranger that I've seen in videos from other folks I am just head over heels in love with this game it is bizarre but it is fun it's a great game and I want to thank them for providing a review code because I was a little on the fence on it and if you are you can download a demo and check it out but right now it's $14.99 on the eShop this is one of the weirder games I've ever played but it is is truly unique truly brilliant and truly just bizarre this is Felix the reaper now if you ever wanted to be a grim reaper this is the game for you although it's far less grim and far more fancy free because you dance everywhere you want to go you've always got your trusty headphones on you're listening to the Beats you are moving through every level to make sure that you are assuring that the person that is there to die is the one that dies and you have to do this by manipulating your environment now you can move only in Shadow because again you are the embodiment of death in this game so you're able to move the environment and adjust the sunlight by using the left and right Triggers on the switch controller and as you do so the shadows will move and you'll be able to move in that direction you'll be able to use those as paths now as you play you're going to be able to pick up your targets move into the area they're supposed to go to and there are of course move requirements and things like that for different rankings on each level it's really really wonderful and on top of that it's an adorable little love story it really is you have to play it to understand what I'm talking about but this is absolutely a love story now this is a $14.99 game normally but it is currently on sale 86% off for $1.99 through July 5th 2024 here in the states just buy it it's magnificent when I heard that Yoshi taka maryama the creator of the sui Cen series was making a new game called Auden Chronicles I was immediately on board I have been following this game for years now ever since it was first introduced on Kickstarter back in 2020 it's a game that I was instantly drawn to it's a game that I was instantly intrigued by because I love the Su Cen Series so much Su Cen 2 is my favorite game of all time so being able to get a new game in the same vein as first and second Su Coden games were things I was intrigued by and I don't think this game disappoints I think it delivers in pretty much every level now there are certain things about the switch Port that I will say are probably less appealing than others the load times are pretty pretty high I will say that but the gameplay itself is solid the actual design of the game is wonderful everyone is voice acted which I think is brilliant all of the main characters it's fantastic it's it's really everything that I felt suy Cen should have been and now we're seeing it realized today it makes me sad that Mr marama passed away because I would have loved to have seen the series continue under his eye and anything that we're going to see from here on out is going to be inspired by it for sure but it's going to be a little bit different than what we would have experienced otherwise still I'm I'm just super happy to have this game super happy to play it and I think it's a fantastic title right now it's $49.99 but it is on sale through the 24th of June for $37.49 for the standard edition or $59.99 for the digital Deluxe encounter indeed all right my friends there you have a 10 games on the Nintendo switch EOP you should be adding to your digital the
