<i>[Announcer]
Tonight on Nightwatch...</i> Come on, man,
you got to hurry up. [Capt. Jerome]
You're talking
major explosion hazard. Don't get too close. Hey, man, you all right? [Man]
I'm fine. She was in the car with you? With me. Okay. [screams] [Man on radio] Officer shot? [Victor]
In need of 34-22. 34-22. Got an officer-- Hey, set it up! Let's go. You're in the way, man. [Dan]
So the officer was shot. They got a shooting
right here on Allen. They got shootings
eight blocks away. Dude, this city
just exploded. <i>[Announcer]
In the city of New Orleans,</i> <i>there are as many
as 1,000 emergency
calls every night.</i> <i>These are the stories
of the heroes</i> <i>who risk their lives</i> <i>to answer those calls--</i> <i>police officers,</i> <i>firefighters,</i> <i>and emergency
medical technicians.</i> <i>This is...</i> [Dan]
On the night watch, you have
to expect the unexpected. There's no such
thing as a normal night. You can't breathe
easy on a slow night because the city
could break apart
at any minute. That's what's normal. That's what
you learn to expect. <i>[Woman on radio]
10-3 responding
to aides at 22:47.</i> <i>That number is 35-51.</i> <i>Three-five-five-one.</i> [Woman #2] <i> Code 3
on an assist to fire at 22:48.</i> <i>Tulane on Code 4 on Channel 1.</i> [beeps] Hello, good sir. [Man]
And how can I help you, ma'am? What's up, Holly? [Holly] What up? Long time no see, baby. I know, man.
It's been forever. How you been? [sighs]
It's good to see you. I know, I'm excited. So we're partners now? Yes. I am excited. What's up, girl? Give it. I am super excited. Hell yeah. Tonight, I'm with
a new partner, Nick Manning. On a personal level,
I know him. He's a great guy, but that doesn't
necessarily mean that we'll work well together. You can have
all my oxygen you want. Damn right. [both laughing] Working with somebody
for the first time is like going
on a first date. It's even worse
than a first date 'cause you're locked
in a truck with them all night. So, to avoid confusion, who wants to drive? Um... I haven't driven
in like a year, so... Right. And I can't see
over the steering wheel. [chuckles]
True. Even though
Holly and I's personalities are a lot alike, it still takes a minute
to get into that grove. Well, we can paper, scissors,
rock it. Paper, scissors, rock it? Uh-huh. Are you supposed
to say it a certain way? Paper, scissors, rock it. I always say
rock, paper, scissors. You got to rock it. Oh, you got to rock it! Yeah! Well, all right. Paper, scissors, rock it. I like that.
So, we'll do that. All right. [radio chattering] [Dan]
Man, it's a slow night tonight.
It's weird. I'm kind of proud of my city
being quiet tonight, man. Have all that foolishness. [Victor]
Tonight is a night
not too much is going on. It's a calm night,
quiet night. What up, boy! [Victor laughing] Hey, bro.
Yeah, bro. [laughs]
I love you, dawg. [Victor]
Slow night in New Orleans
feels uneasy for us. When we're ridin' around,
and it's slow, we're always thinkin', man, this is the calm
before the storm. Next! [Capt. Jerome] Damn! Jerome!
Let's go have your night. Why y'all t him win? I'm gonna have
to come on table now. Oh, blacks are
going to come out. [All] Oh! [laughing]
God! I have to be
able to move, brah. We play a lot of different
things at the engine house. I'm ready. Brings everybody together. [groans] Say it, say it. He got greedy! Damn! He got greedy! You cheated some kind of way. I'm gonna take my belt. Isn't it supposed to be
the best out of three? Oh, I beat three of y'all. [Man] Of course it is. What the hell
they want, a drop? [men laughing] What the hell? [fire alarm blares] [blaring continues] [radio chatter] Dispatch says there's a... auto on fire. So let's be ready. We'll see when
we make this turn. Oh, there we go.
Yeah, we got a Code 5, fellas. Listen up, look, look, look.
Look at this [bleep], look. Oh, the tire just blew. [beeping] This is Squrt 27 on the scene. We got a... four-door auto,
fully involved. [Man]
Can't see nothin'. [Capt. Kevin]
You can pull up-- Pull up a little bit. Can't see on the other side. All right. Grab the spool,
make it quick. [Man]
Come on, man,
y'all got to hurry up. Don't get too close. [Man] Nah, buddy, I'm not. Got to hit
the front of it. Bigger alley than that. What do you got? Ready? [Capt. Jerome]
You got magnesium
engine blocks, magnesium steel column that burns real white hot and sends pieces
of magnesium flying that can actually
land on you, off your gear
and burn through. Let's go. We're ready. You ready? Yeah, yeah. You can go? All right, yeah. [Capt. Jerome]
Quicker you get 'em out, you know,
get there, knock it down, everybody goes home uninjured. Pop that hood. I got it. Got to hit
the front of it. [coughs] Get back.
A lot of steam. [Capt. Jerome]
After the fire's contained, I find the owner
of the vehicle. She said to me she was
sitting inside the vehicle, while it was idling, when it sparked
and started smoking. All right, we're going
to give it the once-over, make sure
everything is safe, that everything's out,
make sure it's not still... too, too hot. Good work.
Good job, y'all. She explained to me
that they hit a pothole. So, in my mind,
I'm thinking you ruptured the oil pan,
maybe broke a fuel line. [Titus]
I gotta call my mom. I haven't talked
to my mom in awhile. She's excited, dude! We're having
a little one, bro. In three months, I'm going
to be a father. I cannot wait. Do you know
what's crazy now? Now when we go
on calls, for O.B. calls, anybody that's married
that's having a miscarriage, dude, I'd be freaking out. Word. [radio chatter] 10-22, bada-blue! Come on, let's go. We're going
on a little car accident. I see a lot of lights
down there already. There's been
a three-car collision
on the expressway off ramp. I can't see what
the hell's happenin', dude. Let's see what we have, man. Yeah. Oh, yeah! That's pretty bad cut. [Man] What's happenin', boo? [woman screams] I'm sorry, dear. She-- What car
was she in? She was standing up. She was standing
behind the car, and the car came
and smashed her. What's her name, Hope? Hope. Her name is Hope, yes. [Hope yells out] It hurts. Hope?
My name's Dan, okay? I'm a paramedic
that's going to take you
to the hospital, all right? We're going to do
a bunch of things, okay? You're going to get
some I.V.'s you're going
to go to the hospital with. Bunch of stuff is gonna
happen real fast, all right? [Dan] She has a crush
injury to her lower leg. Her leg below the knee
was actually split open. [Titus]
Hey, she was in the car, bro.
Are you hurt? All right, do you want to go
to the hospital by ambulance? I want... Are you-- This is your sister?
All right, we're going
to take her. All right. Dan, I'm going
to have everything-- I'm going to have everything
in the truck set up for you. Up! Great job. You're going to wait
right by them doors for me. If you're coming with us,
get in that seat. I'm sorry, mom. I just want you
to take nice deep breaths. Wiggle-- There you go.
Can you feel me
touching your foot? Yeah. Which foot am I touching? M-My right foot. That's right. Can you feel me
over here? Good. Yeah. [shivering] You're going
to be all right. Hey, look, I-- We have your
sister with us, all right? So you were standing at the back of your car,
is that correct? Right. [groans] [groaning] I did a... I know, I know. I'm coming.
I'm getting ready
to cover you up. We're so sorry, baby. I know, I know, mom. I know. [breathes out] I just-- all right, that's it! That's it, that's it. It's all right,
it's all right. Look, it's okay. It's all right. You got it? I just
wanted to cover it up. You got it on there?
All right, we out. My man. Thank you, Titus. Aight, do you got this? Go ahead. Yeah, thank you. Aight. Let's go. Big stick, one, two, three. All right.
Open your eyes, big, wide. Look right
here at my nose. [Titus]
When we checked out, everything seems fine. Her leg is definitely broken.
Her tib-fib is f-- broken. That's gonna have
to do a skin graft. Yeah, definitely,
'cause that's, like,
totally deformed. She has a pretty traumatic
injury to her right lower leg. The soft tissue
and-and deep tissue is pretty destroyed. [Titus]
When you pulled in,
I saw she was talking. She was protecting the airway,
so that's pretty good. Dude, you saw
that leg, though? Oh, man! Yeah. Dude. So, did you-- You caught what happened,
right? So, her car
was the red car. Right. The car with the most damage was the sister's car
that was bringing her gas. Right. And that third car... plowed into the back
of the sister's car, which hit her,
and then somehow pinned her between that car
and her own vehicle. Dude, that could have been
so much worse. Besides the leg. I mean-- Just think if they
would've been walking behind the sister's car. Right. Would've been
working two trauma cases. That would've been bad. [Nick]
Female anxiety attack. [Holly] Nineteen years old. Let's do it. En route. <i>[Man on radio]
20-60.</i> Hey, sweetheart. What's going on? You don't know? [whimpering] You ever had
this happen before? [Woman speaking] Okay. What time
did you take it? Like, recently? [Woman]
Today. All right. We're going to get
you on the stretcher. We're going to take
your vitals and see
what's up, okay? [Holly]
Get a call for a female. What we see right
off the bat is weird. You know what it's not. You just don't
know what it is. You ever had
an anxiety attack before? Nothing like this
never happened to you? Okay. [Holly]
Do we know what
the antibiotic was? [Nick]
Amoxicillin? As you-- Are you
doing that on your own? The hand?
Can you stop if I ask you to? Stop. [Nick]
She's got these tremors,
like ticks or shakes. She really couldn't
get her words out. And normally, when you
have an anxiety attack, you can tell
right off the bat. So, with this girl,
something wasn't right. Something was different. Calm down. Don't start cryin'.
You're okay. [Nick] Don't sweat it.
We're going to take care
of you, baby. Okay. We are not going to let
anything bad happen to you. You will be fine. I promise. I have to-- You're gonna see
people in the worst
they've ever been, the worst day
they've ever had. [Holly]
32-32, Tulane. [Nick]
That's a pretty small,
by the way. Your job is to make that day
a little bit better for them. If you can succeed at that,
then you've done your job. Know what I
just thought about? What's that? PANDAS. PANDAS. You remember that? PANDAS is Pediatric Autoimmune
Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcus. Yeah. And it's like-- it's almost
like dystonia but it's not. And it causes,
like, the... Yeah. And the thing--
With like the tongue. Like the speech
like the-the-- It could be. Yeah, I heard about that. [Holly]
PANDAS is a disorder
caused by strep throat, that causes muscle
and vocal tics. I don't know what
made me think of that. [Holly]
When we get her inside,
we tell the doctors, "Hey, like, I think
it may be this." And she was diagnosed
with Chorea, which is a branch of PANDAS. We knew that there
was something going on. And it was PANDAS. <i>[Woman on radio]
5-13, 5-85.</i> <i>There's a female yelling,</i> <i>and an unknown subject
is armed with a knife.</i> [radio chatter] <i>...and advisement that
someone is armed with a knife.</i> They're all
yellin' about somebody
in the house with a knife. [yelling] Oh, dang,
it's my day, man. <i>[Woman on radio]
5-13, 5-85.</i> <i>There's a female yelling</i> <i>and an unarmed subject
is armed with a knife.</i> [Victor]
Our first call of the night was a big fight
that broke out in the street. Bunch of people
yelling and arguing, and possibly
someone had a knife. Everybody else at Tulu. They're all yelling
about somebody
in the house with a knife. [yelling] How y'all doin'? [arguing] Calm down! Get over here. So, what's all
this fightin' about? Well, what happened was... [Man] Stop acting crazy. You don't gotta push me. Go sit down over there. Next time,
you're going to be in my car.
You hear what I'm saying? Shut up, man! [Bleep]. And, uh, and they were
messing with my cousin
right here from Alabama. They've been picking
ever since they came out here. Y'all came to New Orleans? To celebrate my birthday. Oh, your birthday? Yeah. [Victor]
These folks were having
a New Orleans-style block party, for a birthday, when things
got out of control. I'm gonna go
stand on the corner and see if I see
who they were fighting with. [Victor]
Some of the women out here were attacked
by the girls next door. They may have left
momentarily because
they saw the police comin'. They're gone, bro.
While they was there, they said it was them
right there on that
corner where we turned. Hide [bleep] from us, bro. Girls gettin'
worse than boys. They beat you,
they stab you. Little bit
of everything, man. [Victor]
What we did,
tried to calm everybody down as much as we can. But to know that they stay right next door to each other,
we can't stop that. Anything can happen. You don't have to tell me that.
I was talkin' to y'all! All right? I'm talking
to you right now. [overlapping arguing] [Holly]
It's been dead. Mm-hmm. I honestly cannot remember
a time where it's been
this dead for this long. Oh! Like, something big
is about to happen. It has to! It's actually freaky
how long it's been. <i>[Man on radio]
32-32, Code 3 in the First.</i> <i>60-year-old
complaining of chest pain.</i> [Nick]
Look, come on, let's get
you a treatment, my man. Thank y'all. You're welcome. Lie down. [Holly]
I'm going to take a picture
of your heart. You have high blood pressure? I'm going to need you to hold
as still as you can, okay? High blood pressure? Yeah. You taking your medicine? Lay your head back.
Relax your head. Try to stay as still
as you can. I-I hate medicine. Okay? I-I hate medicine. [Nick]
Don't move.
Real quick. We're going to take
a real quick picture. And I don't like drugs. All right. I like liquor, but. I hear you.
We all do. I understand that.
Thing about how it is... This is New Orleans. You're going to have
to start taking that blood pressure medicine. Your blood pressure
is high right now. That's probably why
you have chest pains. That's probably
your body's way of warning you that you're not
taking care of yourself. I don't like you telling
me this. It's serious, though.
You need to take that medicine. [Nick] Yeah, somebody
needs to tell you this. [overlapping chatter] Okay, let's do this. He's rolling around with
180 systolic blood pressure, which is stroke
or heart attack high, and he's rolling around
with that because he's
not taking his medicine. He acted like he had
never heard that high
blood pressure would kill you. You got some cool tats. Thank you, man. Yeah, I appreciate it. Nick. Are you married? Um... Yes. [Bleep]. [laughs] Any particular
hospital you want to go to? Tulane, of course. Okay. The best hospital
in the city. Well, my wife will appreciate
you saying that, I'm sure. Why? Is your wife a nurse? Uh-huh. I'm dead. [laughs] She might let you
have him for a little while. I'm dead. Can I get my hand
off your leg now? Oh, in a minute. Hmm? Who's your wife? What's her name? Amanda. I'm staying
away from her. Mmm. She's-- [laughs] She's not at work.
You don't have
to worry about it. If she works there,
she's good. Yes, she is good. We appreciate it. No, we appreciate it. Most people don't
like us that much. That's bull [bleep]
But I do. God, I like you! I just died and went to Heaven
all the way around here. Well, God, what'd you do,
run through the building? I'm sorry! Do you know
how to drive? Yes! I just can't see over
the steering wheel sometimes. [chuckles] He is behind you. Tall and luscious
is right behind you. [Victor] Driving
back to the warehouse,
it's a calm night. So, we were heading back in
to take care of paperwork. <i>[Man on radio]
You guys...</i> Ooh, we gotta go over there. Where at? Let's go. What? Hey, that's where
we just came from. We just came
from over there. Just all the sudden, man,
the city just bust loose
at the scene. [radio chatter] Oh, [bleep]. [chatter continues] We get a call
of a double shooting. Place that had
that fight there earlier? They got two people shot. [beeping] 34-22, you're working two 34 residents,
this is right now? [beeping] E.M.S., copy, direct. Where do you need
the E.M.S. Code 3 at? [radio chatter] They don't know who--
Like, male, female,
where are they shot? What's going on? Got shot in the neck. [Dan] And then
a third shooting came in. In a totally
different location. [radio chatter] Damn! Where they
shootin' at? Where at, where at? [Bleep], dude.
What is goin' on? That... was right there.
We got to go to that. A police officer gettin'
shot at, life and death. Right here, Vic. Right here,
right here, right here,
right here, right here. [radio chattering] <i>6232 Elysian Fields at...</i> Holy [bleep]. Officer shot? Officer. Officer. [radio chatter] Officer. Got an officer. [Victor]
We get a call that
an officer is down. Don't move.
Which way? 34-22, 31-22. Got a White Expedition. Hey, set it up, set it up, bro. White-- Titus, set it up! He was shot multiple times by a suspect
in a White Expedition. We took off
to find that Expedition. He went down
on Elysian Fields, right? Go, go, let's go. White Expedition, dawg.
Let's stop playing.
Keep going, dawg. Bitch! Oh, God forgive me. In the name of Jesus. White Expedition,
White Expedition. He probably gone, bro. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He-He around
here somewhere, bro. Ride 20 out. [Victor]
Adrenaline rush
is really through the roof 'cause now you know
one of your brothers
in blue has been shot. Stay calm, bro. We gotta get us all
to the hospital, bro. That's the most
important thing right now. [Dan]
So there's three separate
shootings right now. We just had an officer shot. [radio chatter] We're on our way to our call, and another call comes in that
there's an officer down. Not far from where we're at,
but we're already committed to this current
scene that we're on, and there was another
unit that was closer
to the officer down. E.M.S. 32-20. There a Code 4
on 26 NO-block Allen? [radio chatter] Just wait, dude. If we go in without
a Code 4 from NOPD, you're basically taking
your life into your own hand if you don't wait
for the police
to clear the scene. So, the officer was shot. They got a shooting
right here on Allen. They got a shootings
eight blocks away on Annette. And... I'm not going in there on an active
shooting scene without P.D. there.
I'm just not doing it. Yo, we're going to start
blocking off these streets. Damn, bro. Hey, Sean,
block this street off. Clear that area for E.M.S. They're coming up. We're going to take
Elysian Fields
to Claiborne to Interstate. [Victor]
I start trying
to rally the officers together, to calm them down.
Let's set up our escort to get this
officer to the hospital as quick as possible. Elysian Fields down
to Claiborne and up. We get him to the hospital. Hey. Hey, anybody with
police cars set up locations down in Elysian Fids,
we're going to cowboy them up. We're ready to go. Hey. We're going
to set up Elysian Fields to Claiborne
to the hospital. Got it! Start setting it up. Huh? Police shot, I've been block. Ready?
One, two, three. Up we go. Where he shot you at? In the hip. Where he shot you at? In the hip. Yeah, Vee,
stay with 'em. You hear an officer
get shot, bro, it's... Forget about
everything else, man. He going on Canal.
Go to, go to straight to Canal. The bus lane,
that's where he's going, yeah. <i>[Man on radio]
E.M.S. on fire in Canal street.</i> <i>Just take the bus lane.</i> <i>Everything's shut down.
Hit the bus lane,
it's wide open.</i> <i>It's gonna move.</i> [beep] 13-20, we still
have a Code 4 on Allen. 13-20, we copy. So, we don't know if somebody
been shot there or not, right? <i>10-4...</i> Oh, my God. [Bleep]. So, apparently,
there is somebody shot, and then they-- it
turned into a huge fight, and then now
somebody else got stabbed. [exhales]
All right, then we have to step
away from this Code 4, man. Until police can
finish securing the scene. You're right. Man, it's like
[bleep] frustrating, dude. It's like-- 'Cause you know
there somebody over there. Somebody-- I mean,
it could be anybody. Family member or anything and it
seems like-- Yet, it's helpless. What the [bleep]
happened, dude? It's like, the-the city
was just sleepin'. It just woke
up all at once. [Victor]
When a police officer
gets shot, the entire mood
of the police
department changes. It's like one
of your own family members has been shot. [Victor]
What's up, brother? Keep everybody out here. All right, you got it. All right. Stay right here.
Let nobody in. Nobody else in. We're gonna keep--
Don't want nobody else in. [chattering] What's goin' on, man? What's up, man?
What happened? Yo, you know he got shot? Like, lower back,
around the butt area. So, the Code 4,
the scene is safe. NOPD got some units there. All right, good. So let's make the scene. Finally, he tells us
the scene is safe. And the original call was wrong. There was no one shot
at the Allen location, but there were
two people stabbed. So we make the corner... [chattering] ...and man, there was
just people everywhere. [chattering continues] What the [bleep]
is going on, dude? Dude, this city just
exploded like, really fast. Damn, brah! All right, man.
Come on, let's get on this. [Dan] Vic and SWAT were at
the scene earlier tonight. Whoever police scared off,
they came back with a vengeance. All right, maybe we can
get him this faster. [Dan] Initially, I see
a young man layin' face down on the street. I'm thinkin' the guy's
probably dead because it took us
a few minutes to get in there. He's probably succumbed
to his wounds. He's awake? [Woman]
We got some stab-- We got one right here,
another one in the side. The guy's on the mend here? Where's the other one? [Woman] Inside. [Titus] Hey, are you stabbed
anywhere else, my man?
Just on your back? Today's your birthday?
Ah, man, no. I'm gonna take care of you.
I'll help ya up. All right, my man? [Dan]
Titus is tending
to that guy, and then I go in the house
to check on the other victim. He is being very difficult,
and he will not let me touch him, look at him,
whatever, and he seemed as frustrated with
the incident as we all did. [Dan]
Yeah. He absolutely won't
have anything we're having. Does he have anything
on his chest? No, he just got two
to the back, and he got
a big one on his arms. All right?
I'm gonna sit you up. Can I roll you a little bit? Now, sit up.
She got your back. I'm gonna help you out, dude.
On three, right? One, two, three. [victim gasps] All right, look.
What's hurtin' on you
right now, friend? My whole top of my-- The whole top
of your shoulder? Okay. Don't go nowhere yet.
Take a couple easy
steps backwards. Okay? I got ya, all right? You got me here now. All hell broke loose
out here, huh, my man? <i>[Man on radio]
Yeah, yeah, I got ya.
Pack some lunch, you guys.</i> <i>I'm comin' in.</i> [Dan]
Randolph, stay stiff, okay? Keep your arm straight,
don't bend it. One, two, three. [Randolph]
Ahh! Great job, man.
You did great. When this happened, Randolph,
when this happened
to your shoulders, did you see it happen, like,
did you see them come at you? When he came at you with
a knife, was it in his hand, like he was coming down
in a stabbing motion,
or in a slicing motion? In a stabbing motion? Okay. [siren wails] [Victor]
Once you hear "officer down,"
we all become one. All working together for
one goal and one of the team. And that's to help the officer,
and that's to locate
these guys that did it. Hey, I wanted to
notify you guys, to notify all
surrounding hospitals, or any hospitals
of any parish that if they get
a gunshot wound victim, to notify us because
the officer did return fire, and he think he
may have struck one of them. <i>We're all brothers and sisters
are on this job,</i> <i>and we take a oath
to protect each other,
by any means.</i> So just in case they go to
any hospital, can you guys, uh, give 'em a heads-up? <i>We comin'.
And we not stoppin' till
we bring you to justice.</i> <i>Like hittin' a bee's nest.</i> Once you hit that nest,
they comin' to get you. [siren wails] [Dan]
How old are you? You just turned 30<i> today?</i>
Oh, my God. Apparently, there
was some kind of party
or whatever, there, that broke out into a fight,
and he got stabbed
on his birthday. He has a pretty gnarly
stab wound to his shoulder, but I guess that's going to be
the best birthday present he can get, is
not dyin' on his birthday. Feels real good, man, to have
that sign of relief that he's going to be alright that he's
still in his right mind, and knowing that you played a part
getting him there. You know it feels good, it's a
relief, cause at the same time, you know, that
can be you down there. And you would want
those officers to react
the same way for you. <i>[heart beating]</i> So, I'm gonna turn
the air up for a minute
because it's hot. I guess I'll let
you have control
of everything up in here. [laughing]
No! All right,
I'm turnin' it off. [Nick] You understand there's
no room for menopause when
you're a paramedic, right? You want me to hit you? Yeah.
[laughs] Heck, yeah!
I'm younger than you are. It doesn't matter. You're goin'
through menopause. Is it-- Is it possible? I don't know. I think you just
ruined our partnership. Really? Already? You're not gonna live this down. I knew. I know, because
you're in menopause. I expect all kinds
of erratic behavior. You know what?
I'll show you erratic. I bet you could. I'll turn the heater

"Elderly female feeling
weak and nauseous. Vomiting for several weeks." [Holly]
We got this. How are you doin', man?
What's goin' on? Yeah? Yeah. <i>[Holly] This call comes out
as something that appears
to be very simple--</i> Maybe a stomach virus,
or flu-like symptoms. What kind of medical
allowance does she have? <i>And we walk in that door to...</i> <i>a patient that is
obviously very ill,</i> <i>very critical-- something
was really wrong.</i> She speak any English at all?

right now if anything
is hurting her? [speaking foreign language] <i>[Man on radio] 26.</i> So she's nauseated?
She's having stomach pain? Don't worry. [speaking foreign language] Are you hurting here?
You hurt here? [woman moaning] That's what I thought. What's that? M.I.? See this one?
I'm sure that's not right. Hey! Is she allergic
to anything? Hey! Is she
allergic to anything? Can she take aspirin? Has she ever had
a heart attack before? Ma'am. Chew these up.
Chew. She's having
a [bleep] heart attack. Chew these up. Chew. [Nick]
We get a call, way out
in the middle of nowhere, It comes out as nausea,
vomiting, weakness, elderly lady--
We do an EKG, found out she's having
a huge heart attack. Having a heart attack? [Nick]
32, 32, coming out to Tulane,
steady activation. All right, sweetie,
you're going to be all right. I'm gonna help you vomit,
okay? [woman moaning] Hey! Hey. Open?
Look at your tongue. [moans] Whatever's causing harm,
or illness, you just want
to kick its ass. You just become
like a little ninja, and as soon as you
see it, and it's time
to go in, it's like, you go in and you do it
and you get it. Take some deep breaths.
Try and breathe, okay? It's oxygen, it's oxygen.
It's the same thing
you had in your nose. [moaning] [Nick]
32, 32, at the hospital. So you went on that
Allen scene, right? No, look. We went
to that scene first,
and broke up that fight. Right. Earlier that day. Say that's the truth,
'cause your boy say that y'all just laughin',
and then he still start
acting foolish. We just broke that fight up
early today. <i>The scene we had just left
from earlier that day,</i> we went out there
and we did everything we can in our power to break it up
and to stop it and to bring peace
to everyone-- And for them to go back out
and start fighting, and which led to a few
people getting stabbed--
it was crazy. We knew that somebody
was gonna come back, 'cause they stay right
next door to each other. But the thing about it,
the police just left. So I mean, how--
you just defused the problem, and it seemed like
it escalated, man. So I mean,
that's just crazy. Grab that cat inside. And then we get in there, and he's bust in the head,
and he's got one in the back. He don't want to go. He didn't want to go? I couldn't talk him
into going. Right. We see it,
but what y'all dealing with-- I don't have the stomach
for it. No stabbings, man. I see how y'all dig in there
and, ugh.... That bring me down
right there. Man, we bound
to get another one. All right, man. Well now,
but you stay out, babe.
I'll get up with you, bro. Y'all be good.
All right. Get off, y'all.
Y'all be careful. Y'all be careful, man. Yeah, y'all do. <i>[woman on dispatch radio]</i> <i>486-0612, male.
Having an asthma attack.</i> Well, it looks like we got
a six-month old, shortness of breath--
it says a history of asthma. [siren] When we arrived, the fire
department was there
giving the baby oxygen. How ya doin', baby? How the baby doin'? He's definitely having
trouble breathing, so we have to get him
to the truck quick to get a nebulizer on him. Ma. We'll give you the set
to breathe in. The nebulizer will open
his lungs and ultimately
help him breathe better. Still got that new spot. Where the momma at?
Want you to come
sit right here, baby. [sighs] Little one. Don't jump--
Don't run off. Wipe your hands. Come here, you guys. Yeah, that other guy
is junk. [coughing] I know, I know! [crying] [Titus] It's gonna be
all right, man. I know. You wanna hold that? [Dan] So we're just assessing
for any type of distress. Obviously, the kid's breathing
really fast, and is grunting and having trouble
getting air in. I don't want you to chew on it. What's his name, baby? I want you to breathe on it. Jordyn? Has he been
diagnosed with asthma? [Dan]
This child is newly-diagnosed
with a case of asthma. You know what's funny, though?
Once we start moving, it puts those kids right out. He's gonna be sleepin'
all the way there. [cries] We can go. I'm good. [crying] [high-pitched]
It's okay. Sh-sh. [siren] I know, I know! Oh, I see the lights
outside again, That's what I see.
See? We're not as mean
as you thought, huh? I know. [coughs] Cough it out.
That's good. Feelin' better now. [chuckles] <i>[Dan]
Treating an infant-- it can
sometimes be nerve-wracking.</i> <i>The kid's sick,
and he needs medication,</i> and you can be easily

to stay focused</i> <i>and get the kid
breathing better.</i> [spitting up] <i>Watching a child that was
screaming a minute ago</i> <i>fall asleep because of
the care you've given...</i> You got me, little one. <i>.is pretty awesome.
It doesn't get any
better than that.</i> [grunting] I know. I know. This is chilly. How the lil' man doin'? He said that drive was
so smooth he fell asleep. He fell asleep too?
They always fall asleep. You said that before
we got-- before we left. Always. That's that
little magic touch I got. [Dan laughs] [Dan, cooing]
Yes! That kid, dude?
I can see my kid lookin'
like that plump-type baby, man. I can just see that. You think that's because... in your situation,
the father is a plump
kid as well? What makes you think
your kid can look like that? I don't know. All the kids
with two-year old fat
come out a little plump. Then our muscles start to-- Oh, is that how it works? Yeah, right. See all this? You know how much you weigh
when you were born? I was like 17, 18. See, back in them days, man, Momma had to walk up
two hills, catch four buses to Charity. She was back at work
that afternoon, right? I'm talkin' about back at
work that same afternoon. You know what I mean?
In snow. It don't even snow
in New Orleans. Just that day. It so happened it snowed that year,
on that day. [siren blaring] So we go to I-10 West
and Airline Highway for a possible overturned car. With entrapment. So somebody
could be trapped in it. Yup. Definitely rolled over. [Nick]
32, 32 on scene. Hey, man. You all right? Hey, man. You all right? [Nick]
We get a call for
an overturned vehicle, with people possibly
trapped inside. She was in the car with you?
Okay. We get to the scene, and
thankfully nobody was trapped. Hey, sweetie, you were
in the passenger side? [Woman] Yeah. You okay? Yeah, you got air-bagged.
You got hit with the airbag. Right, I'm gonna check
your neck real quick, okay? Back here? I'm just gonna hold
your face right here. Look straight for me?
Look straight. Another shoe?
[chuckles] Oh, you have one.
What, is it in the car? This shouldn't take too long.
It's just the middle. And I was just bitching at him
about putting on his seat belt. [Nick]
Yeah. So... [sucking air]
Ooh! I knew that was going to burn. Oh, my God! Ahh! I know, I'm sorry. Oh, my God, I'm burning.
Why is my neck burning so bad? That's the airbag. That's the airbag, baby. You got abrasions
from the seat belt, and all those chemicals
from the airbag, and they flop in there,
and they get-- Oh, my God! [Nick]
Yeah, come on, man. Ah, it doesn't really like--

the shoe out of the car? Yeah. Word. Can you see it, or no? No, I can't see it. You want me to climb in here?
Let me try, let me try. Let me see your flashlight. I think--
That's the shoe right there! I can-- I can see that.
Purse, shoe. Shoe. All right. All right. We got your purse, baby.
We got your shoe, too. The shoe is in the purse. Thank you! You're welcome. Holly? Nick. Nick. I'm glad you're
all right, baby. We'll see you, baby. All right.
