158 countries have gathered in Korea's hemangum in Turlock Province for the 25th World Scout Jamboree a global festival for young people the event returning every four years provides a learning experience for young citizens around the world about different cultures the Gathering also serves as an opportunity for young Scouts to build friendship through outdoor camping under the theme of draw your dream this year's event runs until August 2012 with a variety of programs scheduled including International Food exchanges a Korean Temple stay and a K-pop concert and it's the second installment that's been hosted by Korea after the first one in kusong kangondo Province more than 30 years ago we are waiting for the event to take place right also to for those who are just tuning in you are World Scout Jamboree I never stopped demanding I never stopped dreaming not not only for myself but for the young people whom I praise to be service through Scout aiming of achieving to have a peaceful and better world all us here in Korea from local city provincial national government and scouting volunteers jointly exerted all our airport to having the best worldwide Gathering that every young people dream in attending a wall Scout Jamboree which happened only once in their young scouting years thank you to all of you for your full support to Career Scout Association and wall scouting my dear skulls this assembly is for you I invite you to make the most of your time in December make friends to expand your horizon contribute in sustaining our mother earth and dream for your future by enjoying the scouting program this Jamboree offers the Jamboree program will build what your dream for your future by gaining life skills to be the leaders of today and tomorrow you have 12 days to Young what a sight what a sight and what a night to see all of you guys here in Korea for the opening of the 25th World Scout Jamboree and first of all well done all of you guys for making it here uh it wasn't easy I know for many of you it has been a mission just to get here to get to this stage but remember worthwhile things in life never come easy it takes Grit and it takes effort and a bit of sweat but you've made it you're all here well done you guys give yourself a big round of applause come on and also to all of you incredible volunteers and the IST thousands and thousands of you you are the ones who have helped us get to this start line to get to this point so many of you to me the true unsung heroes of the Jamboree well done let's hear it for the IST and all our volunteers really for me it is an honor and a privilege to stand with you here as your Chief ambassador to World scouting I represent all the power and the Brilliance that is you guys you are 50 000 strong tonight but remember we are part of a global family that is 57 million strong you are a worldwide Force for good and you've watched this flag ceremony we have scousum every corner of the planet different countries different cultures different flags different face different backgrounds we speak different languages we follow different traditions but we are united as a movement we are united by our shared promise it's a promise that says we will make this world a better place and as you guys know scouting happens in millions and millions of local groups the get-together every week but it also takes so much more than that scouting stands for so much more than that we are a Beacon of Hope we are a symbol of unity and you are a catalyst for change we are bound together you sat there or stood there right now grab the hands of the people next to you because we are bound together by a promise and a spirit and a friendship and a set of values like kindness honesty squeeze those hands integrity respect and service to our fellow man and women next to us [Applause] I look at you all you know and in here I feel what scouting does it empowers each of us to get out there to explore the unknown to to push our own limits to discover our own true potential every single one of you here if you are a scout if you are a volunteer if you are part of our scouting movement you are an adventurer but true adventure lies not just in climbing mountains or crossing rivers true adventure is in here true adventure is the courage to to dream big it's the courage to take risks and to overcome difficult obstacles that stand in our way just ask the IST you are going to have obstacles [Applause] and you will have obstacles in the next few weeks and challenges because the adventurous path that we'll choose is never easy this Jamboree in life is going to test you and push you but when we're pushed that is when our character starts to shine through it's only when we're pushed a bit like grapes you squeeze us you see what we're made of is when we're pushed that we find strength because it's only when we're pushed and we have struggle that we develop our resilience and all of us in life in scouting in jamborees life we need resilience more than ever the world is a tough place look at your home country look at the country next to you there's often conflict we're all dealing with climate change but to me it says that the world needs Scouts more than ever now is our time and you know what I believe I believe that it's Scouts that can take on those challenges I believe in you I believe in you to be the change maker so whoever you are whether you're 14. 15. 16 17 whether you're a volunteer you are the change makers never doubt the impact that you can have to truly change the world for the better so my shout out to you for the next two weeks is to let that scouting spirit inside let it guide you create Unforgettable memories make lifelong friendships show the world the sort of leaders that you are and that you're going to become [Music] because if I've learned anything in all my time as Chief Scout and as Chief Ambassador World Scouts if I have learned anything it's a Scouts can do the impossible come on the scouts [Music] so I want you guys to give yourself the biggest Scout cheer won't miss a resonate across Korea to resonate across your home countries so they hear you are you ready we're going to cheer for the scouts for each other for adventure for friendships here we go one two three whoa come on okay I've got to get the star because when we get the star right at the top there the Jamboree is officially open it's not going to be easy and there is a lot that can go wrong come on team [Music] go on the scouts come on you are the one you are the power changes you are the one to change the world for the better clap for yourselves you've got it all ahead Adventure friendships life skills everything that scouting gives you never take be at the Jamboree [Applause] distinguished guests organizing committee members fellow Scouts and volunteers after many years of preparation we are all here together finally at the 25th World Scout Jamboree [Applause] as I look out into the crowd and welcome Scouts watching the opening ceremony here and online all around the world one thing is clear scouting is back [Music] [Applause] together we managed through the impacts of the global pandemic and last year we saw Scouts reconnecting once again through local groups National camps jamborees moots and so much more and now here we are at the largest outdoor educational event for youth on the planet the 25th World Scout Jamboree this Jamboree is a testament to the strength and resilience of our Scout movement which is now 57 million members strong and active in almost every country around the world this Jamboree also symbolizes the incredible diversity of our movement it serves as a reminder that despite our differences we are all United by a common set of scouting values and a promise to make this planet a better place for everyone we all know the incredible pressure that our planet is under right now we've seen the climate change here even at this event we are now at the halfway point of achieving the sustainable development goals by 2030. and it's clear my friends we still have a long way to go but his Scouts you are not powerless in the face of adversity individually and collectively as a global movement you all are the change agents that this world so desperately needs you have the power to promote peace Justice and equality you can help us tackle climate change to help improve access to health and education and to respond to disasters and humanitarian crisis situations when our communities need us the most as I reflect on my time as a scout this movement has had an incredible impact on my life growing up in scouting and I have no doubt is going to have the same impact on each and every one of you here on behalf of the world organization of The Scouting movement I want to thank the Korean Scout Association and the organizing committee for their incredible hospitality and their dedication to making this event a success let's give them a round of applause I also want to recognize the Jamboree planning team and say a big thank you to the thousands of adult volunteers who have been contributing their time and energy to making this Jamboree a success to the net to the leadership of national Scout organizations contingents and our incredible international service team members [Music] thank you so much for your unwavering dedication support and your planning to be prepared for this event and finally to the more than 43 000 young people who have traveled to South Korea from over a hundred and fifty eight countries you are all here for a once and a lifetime experience so I encourage each of you to make the most of these 10 days that you have here if I could draw my dream it is for each of you here to challenge yourselves to develop new skills to make new friends and I hope that you take everything that you learn here at this event back home to have a true lasting impact on your communities with that I wish you an amazing experience and now it's time to start the 25th World Scout Jamboree thank you dear friends it's my privilege to take part in this 25th World sculpt Jamboree being held in the Republic of Korea this Gathering brings together Scouts from every corner of the Worlds and it arrives at the turbulent moment marked by conflicts climate change hunger poverty Division and inequality today more than ever we needed Timeless values that Scouts embody responsibility diversity and inclusivity local and global citizenship I want to personally thank you for working to advance the sustainable development goals in your communities your generation is a become of Hope and unity as we strive to shape a better fairer more peaceful future that is why the United Nations established the first Avenue's office to harness the ideas Innovations and Leadership of young people like you we recognize that there can be no global stability no gender equality and nowhere to hunger poverty and climate destruction without you so be bold be fearless and be relentless in fighting for a better future let your voices echo in the halls of power lift each also been a great help in my life great leader who are filled with sense of responsibility and service join forces to stand in solidarity you will be able to help not only your local community or your country will be able to respond to crises and challenges facing Humanity by helping countries and people in need is the solidarity of Scouts all over the world it is a place called solidarity for young people who dream of a free and prosperous future crowd Scouts look around you I'm not alone you have many of your fellow members from over 150 countries gathered under the scouts are your friends and allies I hope that you will become a great member who make your future with your own efforts [Music] out to those in need without turning away from the difficulties colleagues friendships
