CEO Min Hee-jin of ADOR, the company that made NewJeans, said in an interview, that the thing she considered most important when making NewJeans was to create a harmony that doesn't seem forced. She sought a healthy team with a joyful pleasant energy and formed the members that fit that vibe. Where and how did she find NewJeans members
who are so perfect for this concept? [The ukulele girl] Hanni became a trainee through HYBE Plus Global Audition, which was held after CEO Min Hee-jin joined HYBE in 2019. The video of Hanni playing the ukulele in 'We Are NewJeans', which was one of the videos to introduce NewJeans, is actually her audition video. Hanni is a Vietnamese Australian born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, and in her childhood, she was a girl who LOVED music. She liked One Direction so much at the age of 8
that she went to their concert in Melbourne, and in 2014, she participated in 'The Voice Kids', which was a kid version of 'The Voice' in Australia. Also, she was a member of a Kpop dance cover team named 'Aemina' with her friends in Melbourne. So from a young age, Hanni grew up with music and she said she wanted to be with music all the time because music made her happy. Hanni wanted to share her emotions with everyone through music, so she decided to apply for HYBE's audition, dreaming of becoming a singer. [Mo Jihye] Danielle's Korean name is Mo Jihye. She was born in Austraila, and her mom who is Korean made her live in Korea for about 3 years from the age of 5 to make her learn Korean culture. Back then, Danielle was a kid with such a pretty smile
and worked as a kid model in Korea. Plus, she appeared on many shows, including 'Rainbow Kindergarten',
Jesse's Play Kitchen', 'Crayon in my heart', and 'Hello Yoga Kids', and she was so loved that even an online fan cafe was made for her. To this day, Mo Jihye's loveliness on 'Rainbow Kindergarten' is particularly vivid in many people’s memory. Plus, she took 1st place at various kid model contests. But Danielle, who showed lots of talent from a young age, headed back to Australia when she was in 1st grade for her academics. Influenced by her family who loved music, Danielle always listened to music and she wanted to share the feelings and joy she gained through music with others, so she dreamed of becoming a singer. So Danielle applied for HYBE's Plus Global Audition in 2019 and ended up coming back to Korea. Perhaps she met Hanni at the audition. [Got into HYBE earlier than the CEO] Among NewJeans members, Minji was the first one to get into HYBE as a trainee. In fact, she got into HYBE even earlier than CEO Min Hee-jin did in 2019. As a kid, Minji saw a performance at a university's festival near her house, and the heat of the show made her heart pump hard, so she dreamed of a profession that involves being on stage, she said. But perhaps she didn't think of becoming a singer in particular. About 5 years ago, in 2017, she was a student learning to play the guitar just as a hobby at a practical music institute in Chuncheon. The head of the institute thought Minji was too pretty to just be playing the guitar. So the head of the institute recommended
that she participate in Source Music's audition which was held in the institute, and she passed it at once, which surprised her too. So Minji got into Source Music as a trainee and trained for about 2 years, and many fans are speculating that Minji is the first member picked by Min Hee-jin when Min Hee-jin was working with Source Music on making a girl group. It's because Minji appeared as a model to promote HYBE's Plus Global Audition
where Hanni and Danielle were discovered. That's probably why Hanni and Danielle who have pleasant, joyful energy like Minji
were selected as members. [The baby cat who even dropped out of school] Haerin's schoolmate once said that
Haerin was famous for her prettiness in middle school. According to the schoolmate, Haerin was a quiet and nice person. But word got around about her stunning visual, so after school, she was street-cast in front of her school by herself sometimes. Another schoolmate of hers said that after Haerin was street-cast, she thought hard with her friend about
what would happen after becoming a celebrity. But Haerin said that she thought it'd be so cool to develop her own style through her own song and have her style be recognized by people. She said she thought the profession of singer
which shares emotions and relates to others through songs is so cool, so she wanted to become a singer. And according to her schoolmate, she moved to a new house in 2020 when she was in 8th grade, and there was a rumor that she was a trainee then. But actually, Haerin didn't move. She dropped out of school. Perhaps, being that Haerin was seriously considering a singer, she made such a decision to focus on training. Previously, there was a rumor that
Haerin passed her audition by performing pansori, but on a radio show, she said that this rumor wasn't true. [Maknae with tons of old videos] Hyein is the maknae (youngest member) of NewJeans,
but she is the one with the most videos from “the old days”. It's because she used to work for a long time as a member of
'Pocket TV Play With Me Club' where she showed her various sides. Even then she was working hard for her dream, attending a dance school. At around 10, Hyein developed a passion in dancing and started learning it. She was an aspiring idol who went to her dance school 3 times a week and did dance covers of dance videos on YouTube at home. In addition, Hyein used to be a 1st-gen member of a kids' idol group called Ussogirl
with the stage name U.Jeong. And even before she signed with her agency,
she had some "connection" with HYBE. She was on 'Boni Hani Game Expedition' on EBS where she met Tomorrow X Together. Since Hyein worked at a young age, showing her talent and "it" factor, she may seem like she joined NewJeans early,
but she actually became a member last. As a kid, she had an unexpected opportunity to learn how to dance, and it was so much fun for her, so she thought she'd be a joyful happy person if she could do such a fun thing for a living. As a result, she dreamed of becoming a singer. The profession of a singer could help her deliver
her thoughts to others through songs, and it could influence others in a good way, so she thought she'd like to become a singer who could deliver her happy and positive feelings to others, said Hyein. It's unknown how exactly Hyein ended up joining NewJeans, but we do know that it didn't happen through the Plus Global Audition
which HYBE held with Source Music in 2019. On May 3, 2021, the Pocket TV channel posted
a video to announce Hyein's graduation. So a lot of her fans are speculating that she was either cast later or accepted through ADOR's global audition, held at the end of 2021. There used to be a rumor that Hyein applied for
'My Teenage Girl' and was eliminated. But Hyein's mom wrote a comment saying that
Hyein has never applied for 'My Teenage Girl'. But apparently, since elementary school, she has been friends with Riwon
who is currently in CLASS:y. So these 5 members of NewJeans got together, and just as Min Hee-jin has said in an interview, they're spreading pleasant, joyful energy to Kpop fans. After causing a sensation with their debut album,
NewJeans is currently preparing a comeback. Their comeback date is Jan 2, 2023! They're planning to come back with the new single album [OMG], and just as 'Attention' and 'Hype Boy' brought a cool, fresh summer to the fans, they said they'll show their own unique warm & upbeat winter.
