historic train station I think the prettiest train station in all of Thailand well this old station I'm sorry to say has been replaced by a brand new station before we get on away I've got to give you a little bit of a backstory let's go what cup free hair cup yeah J Mar cup coai cup K C here's a great example of the legacy of King a long tradition of monarchs in Wen starting from the origins of this Railway there is the Royal waiting room just like this station King Ramen 9 will live forever in the hearts and minds of people of Wan for sure and Thailand there's the main road to the beach if you keep going straight that way you'll be at the beach in about 5 minute walk or so and the grand old original Haan railway station and you can see right next door is the new station right next door is the original Wan Golf Course looks absolutely beautiful today is it this is such an iconic Historic Railway Station I'm sure that it will remain Untouched by the way if you're looking for a nice airon place to have a coffee while you're waiting for the train let's this place is still open just love these lotus flower trees here beautiful yeah smell fantastic my l a a gam of a coffee shop this she said they've got fewer customers now sadly I would definitely rather beide here than in a open air hot new terminal tyan Italian food L Roa and breakfast right across in the train station or Tai have two independent mines but some really seem to clict so on them so we came from the blue line and we're almost upstairs to the train terminal and here's the commuter trains you can see people getting off to dang the red line Etc but we are going around here to the very back of this building we take a turn and we go down to the very end of the building here hardworking SRT staff hello we' got time before the train so let's just pop outside it's a vast open chamber isn't it really I'm not knocking K tap appy Etc but it's just kind of vast and a utilitarian it's it's difficult to say that you love this building the way you would say that about Hong that's all that's all I'm saying anyways okay and here's a view from the [Music] outside and a game with the architect I'm not saying that this is unattractive it's just a little I don't know Blade Runner esque we'd have to come back in 50 years and then judge it I suppose back into the belly of the Beast as Sean Conor used to say ah now we can really see so we are down here in the bottom the main Concourse and the first level again is the SRT Red Line and the longdistance trains and then the top level is going to be for highspeed rail [Music] here's a Lou and robot parking don't stand there gain more blade runner-esque feel to the place deny and the removal of the bum guns continues please stop removing the bum guns T it's so much more civilized in the west and you're worried that it looks uncivilized man once you have a bump gun you never go [Music] back let's go so we're at the far end for reference coming from the MRT which brings us to the actual waiting area for the southern bound and Northern bound trains if you're going to the South anywhere in the South it's usually this Center one right here e yeah this is the waiting area right here for Wan it's the Southern Line you can see and for shangai Nissan the north northeastern line you want to be at departure gate B and if you come down to the very end of the building here start to see more food options I'll show you not to Waffle on but that's a pretty good deal 3 for 69 bu five get one free and besides ready go eats they've also got a some decent coffee here as well well the price are pretty good 45 bu for an Americano nice and if you came here early and you wanted to have a wander without your luggage you can just leave it here in one of these lock boxes Mini Storage there okay and over here we got a bit of a museum and some Redline uh characters we quick look at the Museum bit shall we you know this to me is very interesting they could really flesh out an entire area dedicated to the history of the SRT I would love to see that that would be fascinating to me so this is a good start it's funny how history gives a building life and character that's essentially what this does okay finally at the very end is the food court just right there okay here is the food court or food station as they call it there's some good food on oh you have airon how much is it so the upshot of that was she had one seat left in airon and it converts to an upper if you're going further and it was 310 B I think she said so you could have got lucky on this day if you just rocked up at the last minute looking for an airon seat but that's very unusual okay here's the departures I'm taking the 171 rapid at 1510 that's actually a sleeper train but I'm not using the sleeper I'll just be using the seat I just like it cuz it's more spacious Etc so I'm going to arrive hopefully within 3 and 1/2 hours and it'll still be light I hope when we arrive and the sleeper trains are a lot more comfortable than the commuter train the train number 40 just a commuter train which leaves at 1805 now I see which will be you're in the dark the entire way it's such a pretty trip so that's another reason I prefer to take the 1510 is cuz you're in the daytime and it's just like uh to me it's just like sitting on a bus I just don't enjoy it I like the freedom in the space of the sleeper trains there's another option while you're waiting massage okay I got to charge my phone or this would be a short video probably a long ass video already we'll see literally 1% left of my phone and all the Chargers are taken Argentina Argentina nice girl from Argentina allowed me to take her plug I brought out my extension and now we're sharing a plug you see she's scanning everybody's tickets if you don't have a physical ticket if you got a digital one then save a PDF on your phone and show it to her and she'll scan the QR code right on time we're ahead of time actually it's 3:00 straight up and the train leades at 10 minutes so up we go to the plan for way up there all into The Concourse now these are the third class seats here so this is what you're going to be sitting in if you didn't book A second class it's all right I mean now the train is only 3 hours versus 5 hours allegedly we'll see hi some wers well they've got some nice seats there look at that see these leather seats look nicer than those bench seats so a short trip in the winter time if you're going to canabury or somewhere close like that no problem Bogies we've got 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 nine looks like nine bogeys so here's the aircon cars you can see the difference this is the old train again not as nice as a new train but these are airon at least I'm in number 13 Lucky were also in second class get on that but you know what I'm going to revise that the reason why I always say look don't take third class is not because I don't like third class I've taken third class a 100 times I'm sure but a guy took third class on my advice and he said he had the worst journey of his life and he never looking your channel again blah blah blah then he stalked me for a number of months saiding me hate messages I'm going to find you buddy he's really really angry anyways ever since then I stopped recommending third class I always say I put a caveat you can take third class but it's a little bit uncomfortable yada yada but uh I can say in in the winter months I remember them as well this is all new to me too I don't this is all new it's the first time I in the station is there a lift over there okay started watching your videos very good if you need to sleep it's a good good way to get to sleep a lot of people got off in are in looks like they're on their way there she goes oh there's lift right there perfect I guess they had to have a lift didn't they really cuz this abled people Etc getting up the stairs you absolutely have to have it and just over here is Infamous soy 80 I was talking to a guy uh named Jim from Jim's bar a nice guy actually he's a Thai American who owns a bar he was hoping that this was going to improve the foot traffic on soy 80 when this opens so we'll see if that happens oh thank you C cup [Music] come exit and again it looks very much like they've got some more work to do here but it's definitely up and running as you can see oh we forgot to talk about the time right right I've been faffing about upstairs for about 15 minutes so let's just call it we arrived at 1027 okay to be honest my mind's jellous so I stepped away and I did the calculations the final tell is that bus trip that I took up from blueport to eami took 4 hours and just over 4 hours 4 hours and 5 minutes the train today took 3 hours and 40 minutes the winner the train it's not a science ific result by any means that bus did make a couple of stops along the way Etc so take from that what you will but for me now that the train is instead of being 5 hours it's say three and 1 half hours probably by the time they get it up to speed no pun intended if you prefer the bus stop you hope somewhere along the way so you can use the restroom and all of that no movement no walking about Etc then continue to use the bus okay I'm biased again if you like the bus go ahead take the bus for for me the train actually I'm a bit sad because the old train that took longer the longer it takes just adds to the journey as far as I'm concerned when you're on the train appears they're funneling you out to the old train station but how do you get out oh yes they are just simply go around here yeah it appears they're they're funneling you out to the old train station that's where they still got the T Tes and the taxis Etc meeting you so I don't mind I want to go and see the old train station of course looking back at the new station first you know it just it looks overly large doesn't it is it just me it looks like they could cover 20 Bogies or carriages or whatever you want to call them for new Meats old I think they've done a fine job really what beautiful gorgeous historic old station it's Irreplaceable I mean charm means history equals huahin railway station those statues are gone the signage is gone remember it would say station Master Etc waiting room all the signs are gone there it is closed up I need a tissue and I came to Thailand as a young backpack back or some 20 odd years ago and the first place I lived was right here in hen from that day to this day I arrived by the train and I've taken this train at least I I want to say 100 times but maybe that's an exaggeration but scores of times from H in over the years the iconic sign and of course the Royal waiting [Music] room old station New Station let's walk out to the road here and here's haai in in High season things are jumping as you can see at least the traffic is jumping okay just around the corner here is this iconic sign I wonder if they're what they're going to do with that that there's a keeper right [Music] there okay let's just cross over here fittingly to the the museum trains yeah that seems fitting somehow so whether you're taking a bus or the new train as far as I'm concerned hin is still one of the most magical places not just in Thailand but perhaps all the southeast Asia it doesn't have the perfect Beach it doesn't have great night life and all of that thank goodness it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a tourist town again thank goodness but what it does have I'll tell you the one number one thing it has it's
