part of a community that offers exploration growth and development opportunities they desire to be part of a community that respects the essence of human existence it's natural to seek such belonging especially for their children another Pathway to British citizenship is by reaching the age of 18 and living in the UK for at least 5 years this requirement ensures that individuals have settled in the UK for a significant period before applying for citizenship also it's crucial to demonstrate that you don't have have plans to leave the UK after this period especially when you're applying for indefinite leave to remain ilr or obtaining a settled status generally speaking this document is essential and critical for your citizenship application these requirements are just a part of the process and there are others I haven't discussed in this video our main focus is on British citizenship for a child born to non-british parents there's a common belief among many immigrants that simply giving birth in the UK whether they arrived pregnant or came specifically to give birth automatically grants British citizenship to the child it's hard to definitively say whether this belief is true or false because it largely depends on each individual's unique circumstances and the provisions of UK law the UK government has specific laws outlining how to apply for British citizenship so saying yes or no outright might Overlook some crucial conditions that parents need to meet before applying for their child's citizenship I've known people close to me who had the mindset that simply giving birth in the country or British territories automatically granted British citizenship guess what I found this really cool document that explains everything about these topics it lays out all the rules non-british parents need to follow to apply for citizenship for their kids Plus it talks about special situations where anyone can become a UK citizen even if they're not originally from Britain the document I'm talking about is called the British nationality Act of 1981 it's like a treasure Trove of info about UK citizenship and how anyone can become a citizen becoming a citizen in the UK has a few paths firstly you can become a citizen by birth or through adoption another way is by registration and there's also the option of applying for citizenship by naturalization among others the British nationality act highlights special cases that can lead to British citizenship but to find out about them you'll need to take some time to study I've attached the link to the British nationality act so you can read up and get the correct information for yourself feel free to read up and find the correct information for to give you an idea of how a child can become a citizen consider this you can apply for citizenship ship if you have what's called indefinite leave to remain in the UK or settled status this is often referred to as having an ilr basically I just want to give you a general idea of how you can apply for citizenship for your children apply for your children you must apply separately for your children you can apply to register your child for citizenship if they were born either outside of the UK inside the UK before you were granted IND definite leave to remain read the guidance to check you can apply to apply you have to do it separately through a form on the UK government website you can register your child for citizenship if they were born outside of the UK or inside the UK before you were granted indefinite treatment this means that if your child was born outside the UK and you haven't obtained indefinite leave to remain yet you can still apply however if your child doesn't meet the requirements they won't qualify to become a British citizen how much it costs it costs £ 1,214 to apply for each child if your child is under 18 and you cannot afford to pay the application fee you may be able to apply for a fee waiver you must also pay £130 for your child's citizenship ceremony if they turn 18 during the application process let's say you have five children so you can do the math yourself it adds up but you know it's going to be worth it right you'll need to pay P 130 for each child's citizenship ceremony if they turn 18 during the application process it's pretty straightforward when you do not need to apply for your child your child May automatically be a British citizen if they were born both in the UK after you were granted indefinite leave to remain you can apply for a child's passport if your child is under 16 your child can apply for an adult passport if they're over 16 so if your child was born in the UK and you already have indefinite leave to remain in the UK at the time of their birth the child can automatically become a British citizen essentially there are two conditions the child must be born in the UK and the parents must have obtained indefinite leave to remain in the UK for the child to qualify for automatic British citizenship that's the gist of it you can apply for your child's passport if they're under 16 and they can apply for an adult passport once they're over 16 that's the basic process at the start of this video I asked if it's possible for a child born in the UK to non-british parents to get automatic British citizenship now you probably know the answer to sum it up the only condition for a child born to non-british parents to get automatic citizenship is that they must be born in the UK and their parents must have obtained indefinite leave to remain ilr in the UK I believe the parents must have obtained indefinite leave to remain in the UK for the child to receive automatic British citizenship to clarify further let's understand the difference between
