New Orleans Saints and the Seattle Seahawks battle under the kingdom before a sellout crowd of 65,000 this is the story in the NFC west estates off to their best start they won five in a row tie with the RAM for first place meanwhile of the AFC West the Seahawks have first place all to themselves I'm gonna have to do it again everyone I'm dick Stockton's certainly one of the best matchups of this season these teams are evenly matched and if there's one thing to break that balance of power could be a factor that one thing could be Kurt Warner the outstanding running back of the Seahawks second in the AFC and rushing has heard a groin and right now in practice he says he's ready to go but he may come up short and Dan Fouts in a game like this what kind of an effect would have Warner not being under send beams to Seattle well he's really their main guy that can two men have to pick up the slack number one will be fullback John el Williams number two is their rookie quarterback Kelly Stafford as for the Saints well they are 5 and 1 but they really have not beaten anybody yet they're heading into the meaty part of their schedule and today's game may be decided by two men the great field goal kickers for each side all right Dan and the Saints have won the toss they have elected to receive and they're that Beato Seahawks we'll be kicking off norm just until do the kicking and back for the state with email gray and Rubin made raised on the left maze is on the right thanks have won 5-straight is an opening loss to the 49ers in New Orleans there is Reuben Mays who returns home he played at Washington State norms on food that's the goal the born to on the year their a game ahead of timber and the Seahawk fans out in force today [Music] [Applause] Upton weather kicks no gray out the one - about the 17-yard line and a penalty marker is down Darren Miller makes the stop for the Seahawks Pat Haggerty is our referee today holding number 54 offense holy alvin towles was holy so that's going to put Bobby a bear and a bit of a hole here as he brings out the sink on the first series of the game looking at the Seattle defense and here's the way that look Jacob green Jonas and Jeff Ryan up front in the 3-4 defense they're banged up crucial Brian Bosworth in particular is hurt David Wyman and Tony woods on the linebackers in the secondary Belton Jenkins and Patrick hunter are the corners Eugene Robinson and Bowl lawyer are the safety they paint on their own nine you'll need running back a word get the couple up the middle Cruz Schultz making the stop the rest of the New Orleans offense they bear Hilliard and Heyward in the backfield Eric Martin lonzell Hill of the wide receivers John Heights is the tide in the offensive line shifty Dombrowski's Brad Evans these books go Hilton Bergen Sandrock second thousand seven to 12 [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] he's the whole boys up in a hurry to the 14 yard line David Wyman on the stop it'll be third and about six very important for the Saints to take this crowd out of the game as early as possible one of the great things that the Seahawks do is they get the team pinned down it seems like for the opening kickoff with a great kick by norm Johnson and makes it very difficult starting deep at your own end zone [Applause] than their flight formation of aioli third down for wide receiver they leave convergence for the signal against the crowd noise it's man - please suppress Herman the rookie from Miami and he'll have enough for a first down up to the 22 yard line Melvin Jenkins making the stop each month you noticed Bobby a bear with the silent count here he's going to lift that right foot and this is just a real simple out matter very conservative call but something that the Saints do probably better than any team in the league and that's conferred on third down demora is very pleased with the short passing game it is still a ball control team last year they did it mostly on the ground this year the short camp 22 [Applause] [Music] for the Fiats is the fact that everyone is running against them and running solidly up the middle but they look like they're ready to stop the ground game today well part of that is the basic field position that we've seen so far in a game you don't really want to run wide down here and risk having a big line so the Saints have been very sure their first couple running plays keeping it between the tackles coming into this game opposing runners have averaged nearly five yards to carry is Kazim all second and 11 this is 21 [Applause] [Music] Reuben lays off the right side picks up a couple that will bring up third and long and the nickel package comes in football team the success teams have had running against the adil this year has come on the cutback place so far we've just seen straight ahead type of power running by the Saints perhaps later on when Dalton Hilliard gets going a little bit he's the great cutback runner for New Orleans it will be turned out at 9:00 for the dates of the first series of the game receivers cardiology [Applause] [Music] [Music] they're gone up on top for twice over a dead incomplete bring on the play and the Ryan Hansen will come in to put for the safe look at Robert Clark here and this is a corner route to a pair gets good time to throw the st. seem to be in their rhythm but this is a very aggressive move to the ball by Eugene Robinson ball was overthrown maybe we get that call later on in the game for fashion events but not this early Clark one of the new mode about standing wide receivers that the safe like a while Brian Hansen will be taking at Bobby Joe Essex to second to the AFC in punt return Anson gets off a good kick but hear that [Applause] good field position a 42 yard kick Hampton took a shot no flag was thrown receiving the culprit is here dick guy he was that is a shot I got to believe it Pat Haggerty should have thrown some type of flag there really came in with the forearm there and the ball was long gone that would be at least running into the kicker and Brian Hampton certainly think so though the Seahawk after the kick off the ball on their 46 yard line first and 10 Kelly stopper is the quarterback Kurt Warner he's in the lineup with John Ellis picked up about a yard Mike Warren making the tackle for the state they too have a 3/4 defensive alignment with Frank Warren Tony Elliott and Jim Wilkes up front the linebackers Ricky Jackson Sam Mills Vaughn Johnson and Pat Swilley who's been hurt but he feels better than ever Randy Sutton and van zieks oh the corners of G napkins and Brett Maxie are the safety the best part of the Saints defense has been their linebackers and for the D heart is the same story but they're banged up second and nine for the Avalon they're 47 [Applause] and he can't hold on to it he was wide open and that will bring up third down when you're playing with little injury dick sometimes it affects your concentration this is not a little injury to Kurt Warner it is his left leg he pulled a groin muscle in practice the other day he came out worked out before the game got the adrenaline going a little bit but he's hurt right now it's hard to imagine a player being able to play with such pain but sometimes you get the excitement of the game going the adrenaline started to flow and you give it your best shot he's had ankle problems in a Bofors at the big leg injuries but he said he was a hundred percent before the groin third design at the 47 [Music] [Applause] for a first down well yds it was a territory to the 36 we're ready Sutton makes the tackle well this continues largest consecutive games streak the record that he doesn't give a whole lot of significance to what he really cares about is making the catch and get the first down Stoppers got a really good on the ball that's really carries through the receiver very confident comes over the top is now caught a pass at 159 consecutive games an ongoing record first time was 836 [Music] good yarn is going outside long Johnson brings him down at the 30-yard line so Kelly stopper a rookie who sat out last year the quarterback Kurt Warner and Jarnell Williams the back Steve Largent and an impressive rookie Brian blades of the wide receivers and Mike ties the brother of John the tight end upfront Ron mattis Edwin Bailey's Blair Bush Brian malarkey and Mike Wilson for the Seahawks second down and three at the 629 goes for nine minutes is 45 seconds to go in the first floor [Applause] [Music] close to first down yardage close to the 26 yard line Sam build five nine linebacker bringing him down Curt is going to be more effective running the ball to the right because the injury is on his left leg so he's going to be cutting off his right leg right there and now if he was running to the other side of the field that's when he would feel the pain but he's such a tough guy he's overcome that tremendous knee injury and a couple years ago a lot of people didn't think that he'd ever come back from it he's come back he's been in Pro Bowls and areas he's second in the AFC right now and when we talked to him at practice on Friday he was amazed that he was second he says normally in the second half kind of rusher he said I looked up and I'm finding them second Eric Dickerson that's a lot better than I thought I'd be at this point that's unusual for a ball player not to know where he stands in the old statistics range very close and they're short by a couple of inches in Chuck Knox with a third down situation now third and inches and they're going to bring in the second tight end you'll recall the name John Spagnola the Philadelphia Eagles veteran Google team with Mike tight and Tommy Agee a good blocking fullback in there on third and less than a yard at the 27 Breitenbach Vulcan really bread-and-butter bulky vocal a lot of teams would go up top here and if they don't get it would kick the field goal but I tell you what Chuck Cox is gonna be looking for that first down to go in to get that touchdown he's going with Williams and Williams will have enough for the first down as he stopped out the 25-yard line so the things mean stop them from bigger yardage in the Seahawks maintain possession AEG goes out so do Spagnola they got their job done and the first down at the 25 of New Orleans time and positions very important in this game the Saints of course are number two in the NFL and the Seahawks would like to raise their rating a little bit today first down for the Seahawks they have won four in loss too those road victories nearby stop them [Music] Jarnell williams a do-it-all pullback not that about the 16 yard line by Jean napkin he had the highest receiving average of any running back in the AFC last year he is really a complete fullback he does it all they don't have to substitute form in passing situations because of this ability right here he can catch the ball he can pass block for the quarterback he can run block for Kurt Warner and he can also carry the ball and still can be quite effective that is receiving average which was second last year in the conference's tops right now seconds and one at the 16 William diving forward [Music] he's got the first down damn bills and Brett maxi on the stop one of the fears of Seahawks coaching steps told us this week earlier was you know they've got to score points early in the game so that the Saints do not sit on the ball with their great does time of possession control ball control type of offense so the Seahawks are doing two things right now they're controlling the ball on offense they're taking time off the clock and their scoring position [Music] first in ten at the 14 yard line and an incomplete pass Jim Wilkes had tipped that pass by Kelly stopper we want to welcome the viewers who saw the Chicago Bears beat the Dallas Cowboys 17 to 7 [Music] [Applause] he'll mark the place that he was down at about the nine yard line have swilling who looked better in the last couple of days since an injury he has an abdominal pull started the last two games but hadn't done that well because of injuries that both teams have linebacker hurts Willie the biggest for the Saints and Bosworth them so for the Seahawks are shaken up it's really been a game of field position so far if you're a Seahawks fan my receiver's unburden five they've been very successful in Simon 20 this year [Applause] [Music] that's billion but let's see the flag it appeared to be against New Orleans at first glance [Music] [Applause] [Music] as the real great force the grown ball not only poorly thrown but a very bad decision a bad refi stopper it looked like a quarterback that's only starting his third game but he's won the previous two in road victories against Atlanta and Cleveland this is his first start before the home fans here at the Kingdome here is Pat Haggerty he'll explain the call that is definitely against the Saints defense offside short of the first down it'll be third and less than er the ball will be placed just inside the five and pressure on Jim Marrs defense yeah and you know one thing about Chuck Knox he saw that interception he's not going to be throwing the ball again down here and let the lets you really have to third and one right now great situation for any quarterback especially a veteran quarterback with the choice of runner pads but they're going to be handing this ball on probably this Jarnell trying to get that first down [Applause] [Music] [Applause] get the ball let's see where they bought it very close Bret Maxie forced to play in James gathers up front got ahold of Jarnell Williams then [Applause] so it'll be fourth down and norm Johnson will come in now so a great defensive play on third and one for the same forces the Seahawks to go for three max he'll come from the left side and kisses he catches Williams as he was thinking about bouncing it outside the Saints frontline did a great job of blocking up the front they're not giving any hole to Williams on the outside with Maxie's help closing it down norm Johnson a 23 yard attempt with him holy [Music] [Applause] in the first quarter the good news for the Seahawks is that they got on the board with a long drive and they leave it free to nothing over the New Orleans State the bad news for them is that they made the defensive play when they had to bear well they did it's too bad for the Saints that they were offsides on the interception but the important thing that the Saints did is they help Seattle in just three points and now we're looking at getting probably better field position Kelly stopper of course that out last year was the number one drastic by the Cardinals he didn't like the term he liked the way it was handled and I winds up starting now that the Krag is out with a separated shoulder and so stopper has done pretty well and I don't think he ever expected it to be in this position well you know it's not an easy thing to sit out an entire year i sat out 10 games in my fourth year and Kelly Sanford his very first chance to come into the NFL he didn't like the situation in st. Louis he said I could do better I'm a first-round pick he's got a lot of confidence and I tell you what all great players are a lot of great players have to make decisions sometimes in their careers that aren't real popular with the fans and but it's all goes into the makeup of being a top-line player I remember when you came back after missing a lot of games you came back right here if they came dull but it looked like that you never would want to go to camp again way out late I think training camps are out over and then you group it del gray on the left and Ruben Mays on the right Johnson getting set to kickoff beyond the others are great we are due Ben with his way beyond the 20-yard line we'll bring you up to date on scores around the league Washington docked the Cardinals Bert daya's over Detroit Philadelphia loses says you look at the rest Cincinnati Bengals lose their first game in the teams of the NFL whoa Jackson's back looks like he's fitting right into the Raiders scheme of things faced with a first down on the 23 yard line taught by marvelous [Music] 17-yard pickup Eugene Robinson on the stop fen Eric marks the leading receiver for the safe what's the min better field position one thing the Saints receivers do very well is they find the areas in the zones for a bear to throw the ball and this is a simple curl pattern but a bear had good depth good protection and the catch by Martin gives a great field position to go [Applause] if a picture is the wide receivers mais alone so soft [Applause] he lost territory at the 48 yard line before Brian Bosworth brings him down just for 11 yards and another New Orleans first down really believe we're going to get a big game out of real debate today if we went to Washington State across state they're over there in Pullman got a lot of fans here today and he's a very emotional player he wants to get back in that lineup he knows it holding out during for leaving camp earlier this year hurt him and more he plays the [Music] [Applause] Seahawk for you [Applause] [Music] say what progress is marked MC 46 yard line picks up two yards F time they're going to try and run at Brian Bosworth all day long he's got the bad left shoulder and he gives good penetration here number 55 he hits a word right in the hole but I tell you one thing about Hayward you've got to get him down he is a strong guy built low to the ground and he's never quit Bosworth is playing for the for left shoulder and he will no feel the day that empathy played with one arm that virtually after the fever [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] to heal you [Applause] [Music] two yards david Wyman inside linebacker on the stop that will bring up third down and apprentice impresses me about Bobby a bear is his throwing motion he's kind of like a dart thrower very short compact type of motion and one that really is important when you have this type of offense where you're just dinking the fall off or trying to throw the ball and let's get tremendous touch on the face I've seen a quarterback throw the fade back by the acre and a long [Applause] [Music] place [Music] to the point [Music] [Applause] [Music] what's the middle [Applause] and a first down of the 27 yard line a gain of 13 David Wyman again on the stop and the Saints are marching they have the ability to get a lot of men out in the pasture out here they're going to send out for actually fireman's base comes out and there's the hole right over the middle with the quick delivery throws in a very catchable path how does he deliver the ball first down on the 27th of Seattle that's what better Hey inside the 10-yard line Patrick hunter and Melvin Dickens on the play at a 20-yard pick up by Reuben mains and the Saints the threatening to take the lead maybe we ought to bottle the ball more often this is really their first good running a game gain and that is and again it's on the cutback something that Seattle was hurt very much against Cleveland last week and the Saints know that after and Hilliard both have that ability [Applause] doubles her out today's attacks say the first day it sounds [Music] to where David Wyman makes the stop the other thing about a bear is that he has completed census to five different receivers so he'll pull it around they're going to run right at Bosworth again and look for the cutback here's a good block here by court and a good cut back by maze right down inside the 5-yard line down to the two this is a very impressive Drive [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] it's a great the same thing that happened last week they marched against the Chargers and then have a turnover in their very first possession and he was never quite got the job on this ball green with the recovery that they are still with a breeder nothing lead we'll take a look at the exchange here and it appears it's too high to Hayward he's down low the ball hits them right about the numbers which is a little bit too high no mesh there and the fumble big turnover for the Seahawks [Applause] [Music] 1:13 the -7 right now [Music] the first time whereas bubble butt [Music] [Applause] delis offer just running it outside to give himself some room and get a yard that's all Frank Warren is there very important for the quarterbacks confidence is to look down when you think of it snap from center and to see that it's be turning the opponent's endzone very disconcerning for a quarterback especially a young one that's why you see the quarterback sneak right there Kelly's wearing a wristband that has 20 plays on it on his left wrist and gentleman runs instead of our passes very simple the coach to give a signal on the sideline whatever look down to his wrist and call the places below the simple game with less than a minute to go and appliance [Applause] line a 16-yard dick look impressive there by you look at Warner's shaking his then just ball was impressive just got on him in a hurry kind of a poor plate back there but stomper really fires this ball and Warner has to reach up and make the graph catch I'd say well he's the most surprised guys the whole park town for the Seahawks was 49 seconds to go in the first quarter [Applause] the bar of two long drive Seahawks capitalizing in the same family too first down on the base [Music] off the left side [Music] [Applause] [Music] eight of five a quiet five you might say van Jakes and G napkins as you look at scores and games underway on the CBS sports wire really first quarters really move along quickly dick as you can see is on about 20 seconds to go but that's the way we expect it coming in both teams like to control the ball take a lot of time off the clock [Music] second in five [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] for no gain and that'll run down the time at the end of the quarter and that is the end of the first quarter here at the Kingdome in Seattle with the Seahawks leading the state we do nothing the Kingdome in Seattle a capacity crowd here as the Saints trail the Seahawks free to nothing as we started the second quarter dick Stockton along with Dan Fouts North Johnston's 23 yard field goal has accounted for the only score at the Seahawks two to five and a half minutes on the drive that has resulted in a score and this New Orleans went 75 yards in nearly five minutes and came up with nothing as a bear was credited with a fumble on a high hand off to Heyward on the three yard line [Applause] the 42 [Music] [Applause] and Ali go actually 15-yard line he will soon gain the others and a loss of 10 on that one Stoppers looking for Steve Largent all the way on this plane you got to give some credit to built-in Mac here's the faster pressure and Stoppers did not come off his primary receiver looking for somebody else and you just don't have that much time as relatively Wilkes not normally a great passer under any player all around and I'm not that but they got one there ruben rodriguez will sing [Music] [Applause] [Music] ray will call it affair [Applause] [Music] [Applause] good play by the team are getting on the ball and not fine to advance it because you could not advance a month the Seahawks came into the game leading the Interphone takeaways they've added to already in the first half we'll go wrong or the things that people mild and gets congratulations for the teammates so the offensive unit out there against put it beyond they lead it on the ball on the face 42 Kelly stopper [Music] drops of all is complete pass he does not cast it he never has possession and the official ruled incomplete but that was the perfect path from Kelly stopper modest a lot of shocked people in the kingdom they don't see this very often this is a bullet pass by stopper right between the 0 and the eighth-largest took his eyes off that even the best make mistakes at times one of the problems with Kelly software that the coaches say is that a heavy ball now what does that mean dick that means he throws the ball that has a lot of rotation on it so you know if you got specific major up here with you he could tell you what that means to the ball but when I have you rate for thick for copper 43 yards it'll be second any pen BAM bills recovers the fumble stopper and Blair put this connected on the staff and another turnover here now we got to hang this one on Kelly he's looking up downfield as the ball is delivered never quite got his hands on the ball Sam Mills almost picked it up and advanced it New Orleans who that's they got it back thanks have the ball early in the second quarter way to nothing [Music] [Applause] [Music] over sipping it up for a first down Eric Martin forward progress would be into Seattle territory at the 47 yard line Patrick hunter makes the stop so we had a muff Potter than a puddle you wonder whether they need more pine tar out here so that's illegal no yep well haha you can't have it on your myth and go to a good college if you got it you can't admit you guys [Music] for today style [Applause] [Music] always first down to the 35 yard line of Seattle Eugene Robinson and Brian Bosworth a gain of 10 could be a long afternoon for the Seahawks if they don't do a better job of controlling the line of scrimmage here's Bosworth number 55 going against Joel hildenburg and this one got to give hildenburg the decision there they're not giving any pressure on a pair and they're opening up some lines opening up some nice holes for the run also you're playing and play 15 for pillow he's got the broken bone in the foot off the poet second more [Music] [Applause] [Music] he may have the first down and he does not that easy to bring iron head down and mashing was involved in the play and Bosworth trying to get right in the middle of all the action but his biggest problem is that left shoulder he cannot raise it up he can access deliver a blow with it there's number 55 it he takes the blow back time with his right shoulder and you could see he couldn't bring his left hand up to wrap Hayward up [Music] 2:36 [Applause] stop it please wideout to the list [Applause] [Music] Oh the play by Belden taking the hill football this is a great play by a zone defense Melvin Jenkins is responsible for the deep third of the field he'll come back up the field into the screen right there and make the play on the ball you saw his responsibilities go by but what he did is he kept his eyes on the quarterback with his own and then break on the ball fine play by Melvin Jenkins we had a big interception in the end zone last week [Music] [Applause] the waterfront along for the yard of that place that's really this is not what we're used to seeing from the Saints they are not a team that does well in second loss situation the seahawks wanna forces obviously into that situation to put pressure on a bear you saw the very conservative draw call they're on 2nd and 10 and now they're in real big trouble with the third and 12 what's her today during the Hobie fritter five more effectively [Applause] the 37 Dalton Hillier the first down of the 24-yard line a gain of 13 Bernadine the former makes the stop at a bear was the middle of a lot of pressure getting rid of that ball notice on the right side here Stan Brock is looking in at the ball that's being snapped and he's partially deaf in his left ear sewing a big crowd like this is making a lot of noise he's got to look down what about that he cannot do the system present way [Applause] [Music] but first out of [Music] wide receiver sweetie [Music] saddles is way inside the 15-yard line Melvyn stinking stop the stop and close to another person now for the sake not a quarterback to wearing a lot of pads the hitch Bobby a Bears got his barrel on and he really takes the shot from Jacob green though great thing about Hilliard is when he catches the ball outside like that he's got a more than very valuable clear not only back but at the wide receiver teammate of mine Mike a little French game in fact of the business [Music] try to go to Eric Martin [Applause] this is a tough catch for Martin it's a little bit high and a little bit hot here's the fake kind of a poor fake but it did draw the linebackers up and then he delivers the ball too high if the receiver makes that catch he's probably not going to get into the end zone because he stretched out you want to get that ball down I know the receivers like it right brother knows [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] that's to bring you to clarify when you see the foot movement by Bobby a bear that's the signal for the center the elder signal well actually that's telling emotion offense to in emotion the strategy was to distancing understand that Ben's a man in motion when he's back in the shotgun when he lifts his heel that allows the center eliten offense he climbs when he lifts his her down heels in the shotgun that allows the Senators now he's going to call the signal for the front offensive linemen very innovative system that distinctive have avoided the wide receivers here that 7% is wider singing at the ball which they should be doing most of the time anyway [Applause] [Music] [Applause] let's see what a game the dosage apparently this system not work on the glass play as Stan Brock at booth deep quarts of center will bark to singled after the foot movement by a bear Oh we'll look at stand rock on the right side here at left side number 67 the foot will go up this frost Jacob green offsides but he can do that Brock's interested in protecting his quarterback so he pulls up offside what happens when it's real loud like this Nick it's not so much the noise it's the concentration but goes up now the center will set the ball when he's ready system didn't work that time though [Applause] [Music] and the referee never moved the ball back five yards for the penalty and the Seahawks edit straighten them out here they'll place it on the 20-yard line certainly within Morten Andersen range to say the least well the noise affects the concentration of the officials as well to [Music] 3015 and I see why [Music] first out by Bobby a bear and the safes have taken the lead Eric Martin the leading receiver for the state with his fourth touchdown reception of the year Andy Wallace leaves it six to three only one way to take the crowd out of it in a hurry that throw a touchdown pass tremendous pass protection nice lofted ball to Martin in the end zone he beat the zone coverage there and he's wide open [Music] with three touchdown receptions now more Anderson [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] then the kick is good so as I'm 25 remaining in the first half that they fight the crowd have taken the lead over the sea horse average of the national football me is sponsored by Coors Light there's no slowing down with a silver bullet it's the right beer now they'll go electronics from car using systems to onboard computer automotive electronics is who we are and by the heartbeat of America disease Debra Lee dick Stockton and a about 65,000 plus here at the Kingdome in Seattle the state's lead is D Hawk seven-to-three Morten Andersen getting set to kick-off Bobby Jo Edmonds and Randall Mars go back deep for the Seahawks and instantly hero with the 49 yard field goal to beat the Cowboys on the last play on Monday night really a confident young man showing a world of ability she likes that situation wouldn't mind it today at the end they take a long one to win this one credibly confident young man ed Pittman will feel this on fights his way out to the 25-yard line so as a result of the Seattle fumble the state went 77 yards in ten plays and took the lead on a touchdown pass to Erik Barton from Bobby a bear [Applause] he's on CBS for 10 State against Alabama live 2:30 Eastern Time on the tide is without their pre-season - candidate Bobby Humphrey then last year Alabama one that was at Penn State Kurt Warner has been a star for Joe Paterno playing with a full-grown muscle and doing all right thus far for the Seahawks this afternoon first and ten at the 25 for Seattle action by Brian plays first time they've gone in the rookie band Jake makes the tackle as four scores come away on the CBS Sports wire the game for New Orleans and everyone in that area watching the San Francisco Rams game amazing the ramps have so much trouble winning at home against the 49ers historically they've been beaten there and of course for the Saints they know that if the 49ers beat the Rams and they beat the Seahawks they'll have 1st place all to themselves in the NFC way that good into at the 33 William stopped short of the first down Tony Elliott the nose tackle in on the play Seahawks foreign to they have split their two games at home they lost the San Francisco Chuck Knox's team though knows that counting today they have for the Knicks five here at the Kingdome so they've got to get comfort in that what I do and three those teams are San Diego Buffalo in Houston nice to have a few home games in a row like that it gets the players in a good frame of mind especially when you're traveling from Seattle this is a farthest point in the country for teams to go so every time the Seahawks travel they're going a great business except for maybe San Francisco or Kemper those are the that's the records of the teams that Seattle has beaten 815 and one for their four victories and the Saints as they measured for the first down doesn't look much different for their bottom either the really are entering into the meaty part of their schedule they bought the first down for the Seahawks [Applause] [Music] [Applause] as Dan mentioned at the top the Saints only tough game was the opener with San Francisco they lost that by a point they won five straight against teams with losing records and down Betina their scheduled start the Apple has the first down on their 35 yard line with 754 to go in the first half [Music] tries to go outside foot pursuit by Ricky Jackson even though he didn't make the play gee napkins the strong safety dude for the same things are very disciplined defense they really rely on their so-called Dome Patrol their linebackers but their frontline isn't that bad either they're very consistent they play their responsibilities well and they're really fine athletes you see chick heresy running back coach he's got the same wristband that Kelly Starrett so he looked down paula play after checkbox Helton and signal - us cops they're all as they paid secularly one page it's pitch and his pass intended for largest is then complete check that tight and right now for an NFL Today report here's brent musburger in new york Brett latech Mark Jackson activated yesterday by the Broncos and he's stories of money on against Atlanta Elway seven-zip right now in effect today all right Fred thank you very much the Broncos of course the game behind the Seahawks coming into this action Seattle with a third and eight on the 37 for wide receivers [Music] [Applause] stop he's the pastor brian great thing to do all the territory in the first Jackson making this up he made some tough catches we saw last week this one looks like to be a defensive back here in zone coverage good throw by stopper it's blades right on the numbers and a good pass route that was called by the coaching staff they know what they I knew what they needed for the first down lates ran the pattern right stop stop forgot the time to throw like I said earlier it's a very simple game when everything works like that they use the number to pick out of Miami and was developed into a big wide receiver Chris borick Seattle first down for the Seahawks on the same [Music] he's the flock and he's not gonna get it he knocked out of bounds and pick up the one [Applause] [Music] gave a massage the blades picked up only one yard for all his trouble he needed a block you got a bomb that's really I really delivered that time Brian blades has made some very tough plays and the Steve Largent was talking to you the other day about how much he respects them he does not an arrogant working coming from Miami as many others event he's a real hard-working kids and what he's doing is very smart he wants to be just like Steve Largent didn't ask for a better role model pay them to practice with a second early [Music] [Applause] to the 43-yard line where Tony Elliott the nose tackle is there that'll bring up third and a long five for the Seahawks third downs have been the big problem for Seattle last year they led the league in third down conversions this year they're near the bottom and this includes the games that their starting quarterback Dave Craig was playing this you can't lay all this on the rookie quarterback stopper that your entire offense is not performed well in the most critical situation in games third down conversions they pray with the separated shoulders still on the sidelines and will be for a while third [Music] not first Ali the hawk marked on stopper is looking for large in the whole way and that's not a bad idea because this guy can get open again single coverage better than anybody in the NFL here's Ricky Jackson on the Blitz and this is a good job by Mike Wilson picking him up little bit of a grab there around the neck but Pat Haggerty the referee is standing right there you let it go the largest with a one of the all time leading receiver in the NFL is the are now at the 3200 feet family 7 degree [Music] [Applause] Johnson's a penalty marker is dead the states are arguing over that call there's Pat Haggerty and he'll call holding against the Seahawks so they'll bring it back Chuck Knox who says his foreign to record isn't bad considering injuries to the linebackers in the fact that he's starting a rookie in quarterback the last three weeks he's been one of the best coaches believe and he's not worried about his quarterback game there were 86 offense still first down Mike tight Mike Tyson reaches out and takes down swilling here he's got both hands very firm grip looks like he's holding a couple of handlebars there and it's right in front of the official I've seen worse calls though that looked to be like an office clear like that was I would wanted them holding off all their first ascent about the opening crash brought down by Swilley at the 30 yard line it will bring up second down and about eight good job by supper realizing that it's still first down the penalty moves them back to first and 20 he's got three downs to make that 20 yards he doesn't want to force the ball doesn't want to have a turnover at this point in the game that's one of the great things that the Seahawks coaching staff has done so far whip stopper is not to put him in situations where he has to make the Baker pledge didn't take what they give you be very patient and let your town winding down the four minutes and seven to three [Applause] [Music] that third water [Music] down on the flat Reggie something was covered this is a very difficult catch for a running back coming out from the backfield running away from the quarterback and this ball is not thrown that poorly but what it does is it makes Warner's stop thinking about running with the ball and thinking about catching it and running back as he thinks the other way water still kicking himself he's come out of the game on the sidelines with third down and eight blaah wide receivers in the 12th play of the drive coming up for over five minutes [Music] copper pan is please roll behind Brian's lathe but there's a marker down we had a little illegal potion on one of the wide receivers on this side of the field Gilligan oh shoot pop it what it is shake it up Frank Warren Warren is off to a great start [Applause] okay illegal motion offense decline they'll decline the penalty that'll bring a fourth down and they're working on Frank Warren who's had a fine season thus far for the Saints but is injured right now welcome back to the Kingdome in Seattle Washington it is raining outside but dry inside here at the Kingdome 16 five thousand-plus Saints lead the Seahawks seven to three with just under four minutes to go Frank Warren came off on his own power so he's alright New Orleans missed a great opportunity and then this course to take the lead the time of possession has been even but the Seahawks has forced your two turnovers today but haven't scored as a result of them trying to come within one now Norman will try a 47-yard field goal he connected from 23 yards out of Seattle first possession of the game 47-yard field goal the longest to the season for norm Justin and we'll be back with the Seattle kickoff after this here's our story here 7 to 6 to safely the Seahawks dorm Johnson who just kicked a 47-yard field goal set to kick-off no gray and Reuben days are back for the state [Music] [Applause] shortcake silly little things at the night and he stopped style the 20-yard line biml Johnson and the penalty Barker is down at about the 25 referee Pat Haggerty this afternoon holding number 28 [Applause] - thanks backs up [Applause] this just kills an offensive football team here they get the ball out near the 20-yard line not an easy thing to do against norm Johnson and his high kicks and the good coverage by the Seahawks [Applause] inside of him [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the brains are crowded in the CCSS end zone they disrespected [Music] one salty million have accrued 12 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] from the end zone by Martin at the first down out of bounds at the 22 by Belvin Jenkins the game of 13 and that'll quiet some of the throng there are different ways to judge how mature your quarterback is this man right here Bobby a pair is becoming a big league quarterback this is not an easy situation for anybody backed up to your known nine yard line to go back into the end zone pick out a receiver and deliver the ball [Applause] they bear did it very very well Eric Martinez bought four passes for 50 yards including the touchdown with them [Music] 24 david Wyman makes the tackle on Reuben Mays Brian Bosworth he asked him the other day what the comparison to this year from his rookie year he says I don't second-guess myself as much well he's going to one of the problems he's had is because of his shoulder he will not take on as many blockers coming right at him he wants to rely on his quickness and his speed so you'll see him running around very very painful for him we soak the fire badly [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] lay down back in the game for [Applause] these own ashes denote man number 72 and he just whipped Darren Gilbert there and gets right in on a bear one thing that the Seahawks are doing this [Music] [Applause] man [Applause] Maureen fey-hong please I am inspired like that you almost feel like they're down on the field with you they make you do things you don't really want to do hey bear just do that ball up for grabs some people say that's as good as a punt but still goes down as an interception you know these 65,000 fans we're honored about four years ago here in Seattle by the jersey number in significance of the quest man they benefactor every year they Hawk first down this joy to go outside is run out of there by Pat Willy what Dan was talking about they retired the jersey number 12 and it's been a factor two minutes in 11 seconds remaining in the first half 7 to 6 Kelly stopped her checking the signal in other place he has a very limited game plan on his grip the coaches feel that he can handle just about everything David Siegel [Applause] taxes to talk [Music] short of a first down by about five yards as we stop with the two-minute warning coming up right now but good pressure on tele nothing came with a blitz you can see swilling coming in there there's Ricky Jackson and knocked the quarterback down it's important to knock him down as often as possible to get him thinking about that pressure and not the receiver here's the two-minute warning Seattle has the ball but the man down there is hot counseling the defensive coordinator and he's in charge of the defense one thing that Seahawks do better than anybody is capitalized on turnovers they had came into the game with the goal of getting three turnovers they've gotten in the first half already but they haven't really capitalized with any points on the board from the third right here following the interception they have a turned out at 5 on the 46 yard line [Music] let's go to the 40-yard line wrecking something on the stop pressure by dwelling and stopper showed a lot of boys there we talked earlier about the maturity of body a bear well that was a very mature play by Kelley stopper because he was faced with the Blitz they brought the linebackers again he's sitting there at the very last minute threw a ball it was very catchable blowing to the outside on the out route later fine catch also there's the time remaining in the first half Seattle has all three of their timeouts remaining as due to sink water dives to the 30 and a penalty marker flies in the world on the stop close to first down yardage spending the call and I wonder if they call this on Steve Largent holding because it was thrown by a referee from that would normally call a pass interference call if it were a pass but it appears that large into by his reaction shows the guilty party holding is the call against the Seahawks we'll see if Pat Haggerty tells us the guilty person holding number 18 it was [Applause] [Music] Largent working against ban Jake's here and he gets a good grab on him and there's the left hand that's all the referee needs to see from a distance and so he gets the flight that really sets it back now and puts top four in a position of a lot of pressure here is first in about 13 where they had great field position previously 114 remaining in the first half right now even for norm Johnston [Music] Gompers head off my plane ladies about a yard short of the first down a 12-yard hiccup ready done Sam Mills we're back there and now the Seahawks will call a timeout they have two left we'll take a break coming up at half-time friend Dick Butkus will have all the scores and highlights and bread will be talking with Mark McGwire of the Oakland A's as they prepare to meet the Dodgers in Game two in the World Series and recover from the shock and Kirk Gibson's home run last night in a dramatic first game meanwhile right here in a 7-6 game state leading in second and one on the thirty-one stopper jumped over to the sidelines to talk to tough Gnostic compass Chuck is a very predictable coach you would think that he would run the ball in this situation but he also has a great feel for going to go up top [Applause] all of the 31 [Applause] how about what the got a suit William he's got the first down Wilkes and Eliot up front and a first down inside the 30-yard line is the clock not with one minute to go as the Seahawks call their second timeout they have one left not sure he should have called timeout in that situation there dick because the situation if he can get them lined up and where to have to place called in that situation then later on in this first half he could use that second timeout but he is following the orders of the coach they're not trying to finesse anything here they're trying to be very sure of what they're doing you stopped her as much confidence that they can give to a quarterback each time he leaves the sidelines basically the Seahawks have been just trying to take the pressure off of them although you mentioned they gave them a little more of the passing game this week here's a great guy to take some pressure off a quarterback a young quarterback Steve Largent is almost like a coach on the field not only does he help the quarterback himself a lot by his great pass routes and catch it but he really sets a great example for these young receivers Paul shanthi is almost a clone of the team if Brian blade would like to be one dancing is at the top of your picture number 82 first and 10 one of them [Music] the boys Ricky Jackson he don't 5 willing as the same putting pressure on have there second was sacked of the ballgame and once again they're out of field goal range the clock is running along the 14 on the play 48 seconds remaining in the first half second down and 24 [Music] in complete covering was bad James and that'll stop the clock but right now Seattle has to go some to get into field goal range that was or perhaps will be a three-point sack because it did take them out of field goal position and you know the young quarterback has to learn when to pull that trigger you cannot afford to take your team out of field goal position at this situation in a ball game but he'll learn that's how you learn dorm Johnson getting set to get the call if the idol can move the ball they have one timeout less than 42 seconds remain third down and 24 [Applause] getting the first down maybe just about the RT for Johnson to come on the dorms often won't be needed this time and it'll be New Orleans ball a 20-yard return by Milton back at the 49 yard line of the P analyst Tommy Kane got a hand on it and Milton Mack intercepted for the sink I'm no physicist folks but I was a football player this is a heavy ball a lot of rotations it's thrown high very difficult to grab with your bare hands thrown at that type of speed this is what the Seahawks coaches feared most was that stopper would throw a ha ball that the receivers couldn't catch that would become deflected and be easy pickins for a faint defender that playing the zone defense that kind of thing we're in the zone obviously they don't want to give up the long yardage to give him a first down they were thinking the same way you were detective of the year 34 seconds remaining seven incomplete he was going for pyramid and defending on the play was Melvin Jenkins now Morten Andersen told us yesterday at the Saints hotel that if they get to the 35 yard line I am 100 percent sure I can kick a 52-yard well I hope he told Bobby a bear that because Bobby's got to get the ball down there maybe 15 yards to get to the 35 yard line right now the one thing that the Seahawks are defending against right now is a play with in or with their giant package they have seven defensive backs in the game [Music] [Applause] [Music] good enough for the first down does the Glasgow on the tackle a gain of 13 and now the Saints have called a timeout with 24 seconds remaining to go Morten Andersen getting ready and then what he said just get me to 35 how do you interpret all that well it is a quarterback it makes me feel very good but I gotta believe that he likes you to get a little bit closer 52 yarder is a long long way great position right now for example here's a few times [Music] the backfield that they were get out of bounds to stop the clock with 17 seconds to go and he's out of bounds at the 32 Belvin Jenkins had missed the tackle you know and that's almost you gotta give him credit for getting out of bounds but in this situation he doesn't need to get out of bounds what he needs are yardage he needs to get down the field closer to to the goal post for the field goal you got an extra time out you don't need for him to get out of bounds there he looked like if he would have just taken the ball straight up the field he would have got more yards here the Seahawks have a dependent situation knowing that they're not gonna fight [Applause] well they got the seven defensive backs in the game right now looks like from a quarterback standpoint if they're everywhere [Applause] and Hayward gets in sizing 25 a first down for the New Orleans Saints with 11 seconds to go they will call the timeout and right now they're in good shape and that's probably what a bear saw they covered all over the field so he called the right play and a bear may have told Heyward listen buddy they don't call you iron head for running out of bounds and putting on a lot of moves they call you iron it because you're stubborn and strong and you want to get up that field he lowered his head that time and when he does that he's got the 260 pounds they say he's 511 he's probably only about 5 9 or 510 he is very very difficult to stop Brett and Dick Butkus with scores and highlights coming up at halftime at the NFL today each team with one timeout remaining what's the telling a bear on the sidelines right now just be sure to play and make sure that you call the timeout don't take any chances here make sure the handoff is you're going to run the ball which they're probably going to do they're in great position now for Anderson but make sure you get two timeout but what I'm most impressed with so far is the intelligence of the we thought in a lot of the games that they expressed in ever launched their patients came back and they're doing a lot of boys discipline very impressive [Music] the plan until going and they better call the time quickly they do with four seconds remaining Bernadine and Paul Moyer and an 18 yard pickup by Craig Hayward and that will set morten andersen up to try to give the same three prior to the end of his birthday we talked about their poise we talked about their discipline well this is just smart football right now look at the gaps they're just rushing three men you've got five men to block them you got one linebacker in there hey were steps up the blocks he breaks the tackle gets down there now this is a chip shot for Anderson Sanderson has this only three field goals in the 16 tries look at that under 40 yards 19 for 98 in his career and this will be a 23 yard of him you can tell when a kicker doesn't have a shoe contract because not wearing two different extra shoes one white one black of course the white one is the plant foot but you can notice there that sir no stripes on that shoe I have Morton now where does it go about seemed to give all the two contracts to the mandatory [Music] the kick is good as time runs out Morten Andersen gives the field goal to give the same a lead-up 10:00 to 6:00 so that is the end of the first half as if the idle Seahawks for three turnovers and don't capitalize either time and is 10 to 6 that fee is sponsored by dodge cars at trucks on the street are off the road it's the new spirit of Dodge US Armed Forces it's a great place to start and why Budweiser Beach would aim for that clean crisp taste this Bud's for you all set for the second half kickoff boards Anderson will be [Applause] - Bobby Jo Edmonds on the right rental bars on the left for the Seahawks 10:00 to 6:00 the school misleading Lions rotted kicking it makes a good play this work to the 20 yard line where Buford Jordan is there to make the stop so Kelly's stopper goes to work again he completed 10 of 18 passes in the first half for a hundred five yards and threw an interception that interception really really hurt them because it looked like they were going to go down and get three points at the end of the first half and then the Saints got the ball just field position and marched it down and they got the three points instead of being up ten 9:7 we've got a 10-6 por favor of New Orleans the orders will capitalize turnover by Seattle but the Seahawks have a Thomas water person test [Music] larger [Music] depending this is what the Seahawks did when they had the ball in the first half they managed to field goals but they fumbled away three other opportunities after the Saints made three mistakes it had good field position to look at they've taken it take over at the 46 their own 46 and they're on their own 49 georgia Morissette's who is painting that if you cut out the mistakes we can win this game [Applause] first out of 31 [Music] very good when I gets to the 29 yard line Reggie Sutton on the stop water in the first half averaged just under three yards to carry 23 yards at all this is where he's really shows his abilities that we gets up into the hole he's not a real big slashing runner like an Eric Dickerson but what he has is great vision the ability to get into the hole find a little crack and jump outside and make some yardage Jim Wilkes has shaken up for the Saints earlier in the game Frank Warren was shaken up he came off on his own power and now Wilk the steady Eddie amongst the defensive front three for the state here's it's his right shoulder and oftentimes those big defensive linemen and linebackers they get too pinched nerves in the shoots a fiery pain down their arm and it's something that will go away in time although this may be something more serious it to go is a good sign to see him get up off the ground though and jog off the field you know that he'll get back into the action James others had replaced Frank Warren and now Wilton comes out water not getting the same amount of yards per rushes he did a year ago when he missed his third great 1,000 yards season by only 50 yards because of an ankle injury second down and seven through the park four places [Music] knocked out of bounds at the 38 yard line by something and Maxie at a first down to pick up 427 yards Brian blaze gives the seahawks this type of attack here because he has good speed he gets off the bump very well and stopper just throws a bullet on a line oftentimes you'll see a quarterback kind of lob that ball and this time stopper just he's a hard ball drawer he's throwing fast balls all day he doesn't quite have been changeup yet that was a strike they're late having a big day [Applause] both down for the pol and he gets together making the stop the Williams the tongue rusher and Kurt Warner playing with the groin injury has not really missed the play this afternoon and was out front blocking for wizard we talked yesterday with Vaughan Johnson the fine line backer for the statement he likes this type of game go against an offensive line that's big and physical like 16 Hawks Johnson number 53 they're in the huddle he's the type of guy that likes to go toe-to-toe with the same guy all day he's backed up against one of the better ones when Bailey number 65 for the mark everybody hasn't been disappointed negative five and order it stopped for a loss behind the line of scrimmage into the 30 James gathers who has been in there for Frank Warren who was shaken up in the first half shows the depth that the things happened the defensive line yeah and I like his nickname to dick it's too jumpy gethers and that I don't think it had anything to do with his vertical leap I got to think that if something was hung on him when he was a young lad Bruce Clark who is coming we'll now mark leaves the game had been a mainstay of now it's third down and seven 735 doctor [Music] Brett maxi and Ricky Jackson depending on the play and we may have a measurement it is I think a birdie was going to single person [Music] pretty good look at the down marker there and it appears to be about a yard short not only this stopper need to get to the 28 he needed to get his Center out of the way number 59 Blair Busch doing his best but the timing just wasn't there as far as stopper being able to cut off that block E and when you're a quarterback you're not used to running the ball you kind of lose your patience at times [Applause] they aren't shy of the first down George Johnson is on the field so they're going to go for the three the priming position at this time of a game of all control comes offensive up junkie knows that this man right here Norm's onsen is capable winning the game with a field goal later on this will close it to a one-point game so that's more important than getting the first down at this time for Chuck Knox in the Seahawks that's a full-on 46 yard as hip Johnson on the mark 33 at 47 yards an old Southeastern Conference college football game from the 50b all control of a safe lead again cut to one well here's what's going on next Sunday on CBS it'll all lead off with the NFL today at 12:30 Eastern Time a regional lineup of games many of you will see the Dallas Cowboys and Herschel Walker take on exciting Randall Cunningham and the Philadelphia Eagles some of you may see the Redskins against the Green Bay Packers were up that winners over Minnesota today as they meet at County Stadium in Milwaukee the action starts at 12:30 kickers with the NFL today bill gray is back getting ready to receive raise a short kick [Music] and a mix-up Ida see again put some in back field position as maize is down at the 17 make it gray down at the 17 yard line but they could have had four Dan that's inexcusable no communication between the two receivers back there you never can ever let that ball hit the turf because you never know where it's going to go effort after it does the ball will take some funny bounces they're very very lucky that they got that ball recovered that kick and got it up the field you know things are lucky in a lot of ways today they turned the ball over three the mental defect yes and they have a first down 17 they're winning ugly that's what Seattle big last week [Applause] maybe a safe man Hinkel dreams came in on room and made this is not it this will be a 15-yard or two you'll never see a more flagrant bass bass call than this one here's Mays and here's the grab by Jacob green he just sticks a hand out there and kind of sticks to that facemask so this could have resulted in a very serious injury to Mays Jacob green it was 2nd of the conference with six sacks coming in and has not gotten close to the quarterback today [Applause] there's another look at it and watch his hinges snap everything will follow the head right to the ground so I you know you know when you've got to grab somebody else's face mask Jacob green should not have pulled them down like that that could have been a serious neck injury as a result of the penalty that they have a first down on their attorney [Music] [Applause] third quarter [Applause] [Music] Jaqueline except nearly eight yard tryin Bosworth on the stop so nearly eight yards for Reuben bays there and in the first half he averaged over six yards of carries so his return to the Pacific Northwest where he started Washington State in Pullman has been paying dividends thus far and it's good to give the ball back to a guy in the very next play after an infraction like that he's fired up he wants to get back at Jacob green they ran the ball at Green brought this workout big game at the 38 [Music] barold the way in the Hawks territory a 13-yard pickup that time for Reuben Mays velvet Jenkins and Paul Moyer made the stop in Jenkins is slow getting up I think we got a pretty good idea what the things talked about at halftime they said you know we're primarily a rushing football team the Seahawks have had trouble defending against the rush let's go out and take the ball right at them and move it down the field on the ground Melvin Jenkins is in pain and we'll take a timeout here in Seattle [Music] [Applause] Terry Taylor has replaced Melvin Jenkins and left quarterback after Dickens was shaken up one of the interesting stories the reunion of brothers who are playing against each other for the first time job types and Mike heights both tight ends both out of Long Island out of the University of Maryland there they are meeting for the first time ever they're volunteers Louis nice [Music] [Applause] right now first and ten at the 48-yard line for the same [Music] yet the couple and you stopped by Brian Bosworth so they both went to the University of Maryland the ties brothers and actually Mike was a quarterback before he turned tide in well but he was a quarterback in a running type of offense he did a lot of blocking for the tailback but it really is a nice story dick Louis is staying at Mike's house so Mike feels that she ought to be rooting for inside he's very diplomatic oh she's rooting for the offensive on both sides today what Mike the delicatessen ball he's got a great deli by the name of fill your belly does if I stole that from somebody in the broken [Applause] and it busts by John type and a penalty marker is down a 14-yard pickup pole Moyer making the stop and a flag was thrown after job high-spade the casket a pretty fair chance against tight though brother with the penalty it Lowen can't be happy with that one I think she thinks it's a terrible call well Mike doesn't know mike is there really competing well let's take a look at it there's Mike number John number he needs to do push is Aubrey doing trying to get open against a lawyer you talk about bragging rights you got bragging rights and rivalries between colleges or high school can you imagine they're playing for the first time ever against each other problems is the last time the site studies will ever play again [Applause] this is the big win for one of them and he's coming whoever wins this [Applause] second item each me [Music] they're the Hillier and that will bring up turn down it for today update let's check in with Brent Musburger Brent but dick here's what's going on around the league right now the Rams come back on this touchdown pass by ever to Ehlert so they're very much in at 1714 meanwhile big development in Denver John Elway out with a knee injury Gary Kubiak now in Broncos lead by seven let's go back to dick all right Brent it's the war of attrition Bay and it seems that if you have a healthy quarterback you gotta stop to it early or healthy Joyner we'll never see the year like down see Martha's got first down yardage inside the 40 a 17-yard gain let's see where they spotted it maybe he was stopped short of the first down Brian Bosworth and bull Boyer defending on the play it'll either be force and 1 or a first down and it is a fourth down coming up for the dates they just missed the sixth on that path from a bear to Clark great job by Robert Clark you won't see many wide receivers catch the ball like he did and just turn it upfield trying to get that yard a lot of times they'll dance around try to juice somebody but I'm very impressed with the way he catches this ball and he isn't when he catches it he's about 10 yards shy of the stick watch as he turns up field and tries to split the two defenders here lowers his head trying to get that first down that's an outstanding move [Applause] they fail to make it and a delay of the game fall as the clock runs down how really serious is this delay a game at this point at this yard it you know I would say normally that it's not that serious but I look at game often as I look at Hanson statistics he's not having that great a year he's only got a net average of about 33 yards that's into the conference right now so every yard can't impress me in a game of field possession and field position one of the best in fact it is diving [Music] Bearcat and if it has it on the 12 a 32-yard kick and that keeps up with what he's been doing but good field position for New Orleans standpoint well sitting down on the job or lying down as Brian Bosworth for the moment he's a little different isn't he he'll I got to believe he's hurting quite a bit that shoulder is giving him a lot of problems he finally found a comfortable place building take a break in fact you'll repair it after the PISA as well 17 yard line and while we have a moment to remind you that next Saturday the United States takes on perennial world power Argentina in the Americas Cadillac Polo Championship in Greenwich Connecticut coverage begins at 1:30 Eastern 3 o'clock Pacific time next Saturday on CBS Blair Busch shaken up Seahawks enter Seahawks have had the benefit of the best field position in this game but not on this one right now for an update on the John Elway injury let's check in with Brent Musburger dick and Dan watch the monitor we hope this is not serious John Elway under pressure from Atlanta blocker and a tackler roll up on his leg and he has left the game with a knee injury he is now walking under his own power toward the dressing room and mile high Gary Kubiak's quarterbacking and again we hope it is not serious but we won't get let's go back to dick and Dan and your judgment on that kind of a role of injury well it doesn't look good any time a quarterback gets hit low like that anything can happen John is a very talented young man he's a tough man I don't think he gets enough credit from people for his toughness the fact that he got up and walked off the field like Blair Bush is doing here is a good sign to me and the bush injury maybe a similar one right he seemed locked up here with nose guard Tony Elliott and watched the pile this is what happened so often in the NFL there he gets hit something rolled up very similar to way Elway was heard earlier but again I knew Justin walked off the field you never know about me sometimes they give sometimes they don't Francie's will replaces Bush's Center for the Seahawks second down and six 16 [Music] [Music] this is what's going on this year 15 teams have no quarterback injury and that has to include the New Orleans Saints this Bobby a bear has played every down but look at the rest and the Saints are fortunate they have a good backup quarterback in Dave Wilson but you know I said it earlier and everything here like this for quarterback getting hurt everybody has the series and everybody's theory makes them and now you can answer to the list of team yes maybe a yard hats willing was right there time 6:15 remaining in the third quarter we haven't had any scoring here in the third quarter it is still 10 to 9 in favor of New Orleans all those Wars in case you missed them around the league tough Dave parental very habit but a cincinnati bengals e leads to the truth we gotta keep an eye on Decker is the center extinct bezel and stopper we have one fumble already in the game he's brought dumper and Blair Busch second Audi once again with Vantage is there was another at large and out of his grasp it'll bring up third down and large and today has caught five passes for 54 yards as we continue to update the scores on the CBS 4 o'clock building the game still in progress [Applause] [Music] third down and two his kick to field goal for the Seahawks three field goals today for Thea the second quarter [Music] [Applause] [Music] first down for Seattle third down in short yardage you're going to see a little pick pattern here by the Seahawks number one who gets my pass protection but if we can open this up just a little bit more you'll see the larger cuffs down inside and he actually picks the defender off of can see here he gets the yardage for the first down very difficult to defend against that you've got to play man-to-man defense in a third down a good situation like that started from their own 12 yard line [Music] yes [Applause] let's really enjoy this play by John Williams first of all he's got to find his way through the crowd there make the catch and now watch how he sets up his blockers great job there but the great thing does at the end is he doesn't quit a lot of guys who have just stepped out of bounds there but no he turns it upfield and really picks up about eight more yard new database aside tennis is 39 of the same [Applause] [Music] [Applause] max the other side big claims are contagious and everybody wants to get in on the act this is blade turn on the corner route against his own defense the line is giving stopper time to throw and he dropped it right in the pocket the captain for 90 [Applause] [Music] for these be hard to have a 19 their support was safely tendinitis [Applause] wrap them up Britney Jackson also in on the play gain of a couple winding down the three minutes remaining in the third quarter Chuck Knox and Jim Mora battling two teams in start of the day either tied or its own possession the first place in their respective today you look at Chuck knocks on that sidelines if you see him steady fast a scoreboard he knows exactly what they need to take the lead here he's stopping we have completed all five with his hat [Applause] second offense [Applause] [Music] by Ricky thought he was going to blame [Music] and that's the first thing completed in the dry but it could have been disaster yeah it should have been sometimes you get a feeling you can complete them all this is a double coverage here the safety comes over and that really should have caught that ball you got to be a little bit patient sometimes he throws his ball a little bit behind it appears that he was trying to guide that ball in there and sometimes the young quarterback will do this [Applause] [Music] please he was going for palsy off his hands Tucker was defending so it fourth down and dorm Johnson comes up and son fell down on the play and the impatience of stopper really costume on that play sometimes when you're learning how to play the game as a quarterback and you've got a reputation for throwing a hard ball it's because you're pulling the trigger too soon if you wait just a little bit longer you can throw the ball and not pull the trigger so hard that time he threw a hard ball difficult to catch but the Seahawks can take the lead a 36 yard attempt coming up by Norm Johnson's he is 3 for 3 today including the 47 and 46 yard [Applause] [Music] I think Brenden with special teams a week ago have scored Dave Weimer has blocked the field goal by Lauren Johnson and have gone on to run it in for the touchdown and it found 16 to 9 we'll see whether waiver had blocked the kick he picked it up and ran 58 yards for the score their special teams coach rusty Coleman and he's given somebody one for great penetration here number 28 gets through to make the play that's gene Atkins weimar get the nice friendly hop there didn't he and he takes it the rest of the way that's the field goal kickers worst nightmare and it comes not from anything he sees it comes from the sound the kickers called the dreaded double cut that's better the ball that he kicked with his foot and there's no Sun in the block very quiet here the Kingdome it's tileable the more neighbors [Applause] that kicked in good so a 209 remaining in the third quarter he napkins with the block gab Dave Labor's 58-yard return of a blocked field goal 79 [Applause] [Music] the block of Appeal goal here it is the double side let's listen [Applause] [Music] he got all of it didn't he and so did waiver 58 yards and that gets blocking way we ran it in for the touchdown and the Saints alley 17 denied as board Anderson gets them to kick off going back beat for the Seahawks Bobby Jo emphasis on the right and Randall Morris on the left the lower two minutes remaining in the third quarter these hips I entered this well into the end zone and it's down for the touchback by Bobby Joe Edmund so the Seahawks will take over on the 20 you want to remind you next Saturday Penn State Alabama always the big clash 2:30 Eastern Time college football on cbs4 Bill Curry the coach to the Crimson Tide is turned to feel a little bit of that heat trying to follow the legend down they're ready in Alabama fans and alumni a 5 and 1 in for the victory over Tennessee Penn State forward to norm Johnson he's done his job today take three field goals two of them from beyond 40 yards interesting as the Seahawks and water field over the last three games and today two state [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] exactly once the doctor ordered for the density ox thereafter the black field goal stopper gets time to throw the good thing that blade does is he knows where his health is after he makes the grab watch Steve Largent right there get in the way and allow blades to get on down the field a little bit farther but this is the area of the field where the hosta had trouble all day converting and scoring points second longest catch of the season for Seattle the longest was 53 yards also two plays there on the 28th of the state you black fly indicating that the arc might have been guilty of legal procedure he lay it off in five yards by for delay of game in a young quarterback mistake the clock is right there staring him in the face he's got to be able to beat up his cadence or speed up his call in the huddle and get this play called and get it off [Music] a week ago and nine cats is coming into this game and seven today [Applause] first down and 15 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the downs that time to Brian Blake this is coming right at us down number 22 is on the coverage here van Jakes and this ball will go right through Bryan blades hands [Applause] [Music] [Applause] this is part of the the lake party this year they're going to let more contacts go on that place the feeling is long as the defender is also going after the ball prowl does not agree with that look crowded right second down could be [Applause] [Music] what do you think my mandate [Music] very important for Largent's that have a big second half he was a little rusty there in the first half drops one ball got a penalty called on but that you know you just don't catch the ball better than that great concentration and what he did with the catch is movie Hawks back in the field goal position into a position on the field our third and six Oh [Music] [Applause] what they want to do with their fourth wife four wide receivers coming up Longinus bug-fix today blade has seven receptions [Music] get the saw touchdown Thursday at 6:00 handsome fatter than air incomplete Frank Warren [Music] [Applause] we'll bring up fourth down really going to give credit to the same defense they come up with a big play when they've needed it you get the interception at the end of the first half and then the blocks field goal and now this play the tip at the line of scrimmage another big play on a critical situation [Music] watch the hands come up quarterback teeth dancing we'd rather almost sometimes get hit and have a guy block to pass like their back door Johnson with a 42-yard attempt before today's this one is up and running well despite the fact that the same faith special teams play of the game with a block kick in a score the Seahawks are touchdown away from taking the lead and North Johnson with a 42 yard field goal three of his four kicks today have been for more than 40 yards right now let's check in with Brent Musburger in New York with an update break victor lamps have taken the lead on the San Francisco 49ers here's the play that does it Everett quick plates and we need eight yards for the store and now it's 21 17 back today all right Brits though the 49ers who beat the Saints by one point in the Superdome to open the season and Ken Behring is the gentleman well there he is moving into our picture with this driver and bearing the new owner of the Seattle Seahawks native of the Bay Area [Applause] love to get close to his ball club he always spends the first half up in the owners box but he really wants to get down and get involved and do a little cheerleading on that sideline so you'll always be filled in second [Music] get off melt away ray out-of-bounds at the 24 find envy Glasgow and shaken up his meld Ray's he hold onto his left hand next Monday the NFL today will lead off a fine regional line of a game many of you will see the Dallas Cowboys and Herschel Walker take on Randall Cunningham and the Philadelphia Eagle both of those teams try to hang in and the fight in the very tight NFC some of you may see the Washington region and the Green Bay Packers as they meet at County Stadium in Milwaukee the action starts at 12:30 Eastern with the NFL today Oh Melvin Dickon taken up earlier for replacing Perry Taylor [Applause] 26 is really me just a couple [Music] the problems that Bosworth has with this bad shoulder was the number 55 he makes the play on this in this situation here but a lot of these guys they all in matter of fact lift weights almost every day and with the back shoulder the neck shoulder he can't raise his arm above again so not only the [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] has the first down up to the 37 free soaps and brian bosworth on the stop at first lead over Atlanta is three san diego's lead over miami has been cut before and his Brett brought Jeff debate the Rams taken the lead over the 21:17 it was the risk for mel gray who was taken up getting some ice over on the state's pitch he's very impressive to that return he made right there was no it's unfortunate that he hurt himself on the tackle and at the end of the third quarter with the score the same 17 the seahawks 12 CBS Sports coverage on the National Football League is sponsored by Bud Light everything else is just a life you right guard sport stick from Gillette antiperspirant and deodorant anything less would be uncivilized and by super rule we built our reputation by building a better time [Music] I think that the line first [Applause] we start the fourth quarter Reuben me [Music] penalty marker down and fighting for the first down marker is by David Wyman and the free safety Eugene Robinson is pretty obvious we know this one's coming back holding against on brows key it appeared on the left side it is holding against the state and John crisis shaken up on the field there's John theis he and his brother Mike facing each other for the first time ever in the NFL holding number 21 off it so first down Dalton Hilliard in the backfield was holding on the play as they worked John tight right now they and they said in a game like this tough defensive battle as many people predicted that one play could decided we had the block field will run into the touchdown by waiver in yet the game is still up for grabs yeah and a lot of field goals today for by the Seahawks the you know the block field all of the touchdown so a lot of points to come on special teams today and it's a long way from being over this may come down to whichever team can execute on their specialty there's lowest height applauding of the sudden comes off on his own power right look Benson going to replace John tight too tight in where he's taken up even though he walked first down 50 back to their 33 [Music] to the 38 right now for a further NFL today update let's check in with Britt Britt was Nick with John Elway sideline now the Atlanta Falcons have closed within three of the Denver Broncos still with John settlin scored twice 1714 Kubek quarterbacking the Broncos back today as the jekyll-hyde team the Falcons they beat the 49ers blowed out last week on the entry to Elway does two things the kiss Atlanta a real scoop and it really demoralizing the Bronco second of nine hey they're wide open his bargain you got the first down and it takes Melvin Jenkins and Patrick Hunter to wrestle it down enthusiasm 16 this is really the way the Saints have been playing all year they're in every game they've just had a lot of terrible things happen to them but they have never given up they are so confident in their offensive scheme their offensive line really sets the table for a bear and the running backs and the receivers they just do a super job and I think we're seeing their confidence [Applause] now Patrick hunter was taken up and before it left quarter those two right quarterback 245 Reuben made good acceleration victim nine yards on that run up the middle David Wyman makes the stop Mays today and gained 76 yards on 13 carries and all familiar it has been the chief offensive formateur on the ground coming into this game but Mays and having the game of the year for him and he's running behind an offensive line that is growing each week with their confidence talked with Stan broccoli er in the Lincoln the one thing that offensive line does getting a lot of recognition when you get recognition two ways kind of possession [Music] [Applause] second one [Applause] [Music] that's one of the first down 5:35 [Applause] if it was he didn't get the first down if not he made it easily and it looked at this he made it easily in size of 35 yards there and we talked earlier in the game about this exact type of situation watch how low to the ground he runs and he never gives up it appears that he hits ground right here but his knees oh it did go down so the referees missed one there but Hayward didn't miss it the first down maybe initial hand it down they're going to look at it on the replay up there now the pores are replay official and Bill Baron our communicator there they are the pores on the left they're going to bring this one back they have to bring it back if they're looking at this replay because his knee definitely touches the ground and this should be where the ball is marked right there I don't understand what takes them so long to decide that's as clear-cut as you're going to find the bar on the left and barren on the right what they're looking for is the exact mark on the field right now where the ball should be marked that's a very difficult replay because you don't quite see the yard line and where the ball should be marked but it is not a first down I don't believe they've already moved the sticks to indicate a first down they may have to make an adjustment [Music] knocks tempura battling today [Music] [Applause] they thought what you all will go back to the 36 yard line so hey work failed to get the first down and now they go to have to attempt to sideline Barker's Jim Mora done a phenomenal job taking over what had been a beleaguered franchise in New Orleans now they'd rather see contenders and knock has been solid everywhere he's been the Saints have new ownership new general manager ship and a new coach they've just put it all together in the last couple of years they're really important in the NFL right now Jim Fixx events where winners been to Chicago or Minnesota he played a big part of it to be third and one [Music] as days returns to the game for the state it is now third down third down third and one at the 36 early here in the fourth quarter 11:37 [Applause] [Music] for in front on the opening drive for that put them in front of the field goal [Applause] [Music] [Applause] he dies to the 32 Bernadine making the tackle a big day for Reuben Mays and a first down for the sake 80 yards this afternoon from a easily his best day of the season it appeared that Brian Bosworth had to play made behind the line of scrimmage but to Mays ducked underneath the flying tackle by Bosworth right here in our screen [Music] and it gets the pitch and I watched Bosworth come over the top now he has two good shoulders he makes this play but that's his left arm no strength in it and may face the first down very [Applause] inside the 10-yard line with a tremendous thundering run bring them down you give them a hole it'll go a long way a 25 yard game by Craig Hayward and at first and gold oh this is just old-fashioned football hand it to the full-back and let a pound at you great block up front good cut up cut back by Hayward this is where the Seahawks have been hurt Bosworth misses attacker with his bad left shoulder gets into the secondary and now Gene Robinson really has to Bulldog him to get him down the log is running from permits by the state this year as the 49ers lead 24 to 21 [Music] [Applause] [Music] that's all second and goal Jacob green was there to make the stop I really wonder how much longer Bosworth can play deck everyone you know he's playing in a lot of pain he's missing a lot of tackles right now he really feels responsible for that defense a lot of young guys playing in the linebacker position he's got that big contract he gets all the publicity but I tell you what he's hurting right now he's showing us a lot of good to stand out there on the field he's made eight tackles to spike the donor injury it'll be second olessa five [Music] they have this opportunity to the there [Music] nice ball game timeout call by mommy a bear a good spot for us because it could be a very important score within forty seven remaining and we'll be back to the Kingdome after these messages here's our story norm Johnson has kicked four field goals to account for all of Seattle scores but it was one that he didn't get a blocked field goal by the Saints by Atkins returned for the touchdown and the saintly 17 to 12 in the fourth quarter and driving to go in and of course the touchdown with advantage here leading by five making it 12 could be almost impossible over home well the way the Seahawks are playing in the dips of the amount of difficulty if they're having every time they get down in five into the field it doesn't look good for Seattle if the Saints to go ahead with the touchdown here and of course the big play out of Maine the block by actions and the returning touchdown by waiver [Applause] Weimer take seduction tonight topping it with a Katie bar the door or something like that 58 yards and Dave Weimer who's been around a long time his first NFL touchdown and instead of a 12 to 10 Seattle Lee that made it 17 to dive in favor of New Orleans de now they're threatening to break it open 2nd and goal at the 5 [Music] [Music] [Applause] done that play and that will bring up third and goal it's a wonderful play by Jacob green you know he's the defensive captain of the team this year you see him right here and he has not cooled at all by this misdirection in fact I got to believe that Reuben Mays didn't quite understand what that play was he went completely away from his blockers the blockers were pulling to the left he got the ball ran to the right right under Jacob green so it serves all of the 12 [Music] the rest is just a fad boxes Amish 9 plays on his drive and only food that has been through the air and it's parked down and Morton they endured symbols of him to try three that was a wonderful defensive call by Tom Catlin and and the Hawks because what they did is they brought the safety blitz forcing a bear to throw a blitz adjustment excited just MnPASS knowing that they Hart knew that if he did that he would not have the necessary yardage for the touchdown and that sets up this field goal try right johner for morten andersen has been good for 23 yards today and the penalty markers fly rockin Dubrowski holy fool that's different effect forth dangerous consume us though the only thing it does is it affects his timing a little bit he's ready to kick at that point now he's got to go back and start all over is the thought process and all that it really shouldn't affect him he's the best in the game right now but you never know crosstalk that's guard somebody in there with boomin addiction maybe they all lose though Anderson now we'll try a 31-yard field goal his earlier field goals Kamath time ran out in the first half [Music] and the kick is good so Lauren Anderson is two for two now a 2212 game but significant that's the Apple did not allow the touchdown here's our story at the Kingdome with 650 remaining in the fourth quarter the Saints lead the Seahawks 20 to 12 what's impressive with the scoring drive look at the time 9 minutes and 41 seconds taken off the clock as Morten Andersen made good on the second field goal of the game and the Saints showing why they're amongst the best in the NFL at ball control Anderson's teeing off to Bobby Joe Evans in the end zone no doubt it there for a touchback let's look at the Blitz adjustment play right here this is Patrick hunter he's going to come on a blitz and now the receiver Clark is going to run an out pattern here now what happens with a bear he knows that hunter has not picked up watch he'll come all the way to the quarterback forcing a ver to throw sooner than he wanted to and keeping the Hawks from losing or going behind by 4 points more I eat right now that's a touchdown in a field goal we better get to not allowed a touchdown is there now with the off don't need touchdown McGee who scores in the 2022 make the top stocks with Kelly stomper before the game and one thing that he knows is that they're just kind of horse beating him the offense that he is ready for to cut loose he wants to throw it every down he's got that type of confidence and his abilities he's showing us a lot right now he's thrown the ball very well today plenty of time for bacon second set the algae boy divert wide open my house Tynan to the 48 yard line and right now for an NFL Today report let's check in with Britt Musburger Chris well dick in the Seahawks can not come back they're going to find themselves in a first-place tie Gary Kubiak the backup dens are running back out of the backfield and Steve tools got it and it's 27 14 now for the New Orleans Saints three touchdowns for Roger Craig Niners lead it by three back to dick all right Brendan here at second down and five for Kelly stopper thanks again for the first down indistinct territory to the 45 fans based on the stuff good for ten-yard what's becoming it boys considering the fact that Seattle means the touchdown of the field this is where an inexperienced quarterback is really at a disadvantage his tempo is not what it needs to be you've got to step the tempo up you got to get the play from the sideline call it into Auto get to the line of scrimmage and get going every second counts [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] down he goes and game together get the very big stack for New Orleans it is their third of the ballgame and that'll not stop her back both to midfield with a loss of five on that play he's having difficulty coming off his primary receiver that time largest was double covered by the zone Kelly never got off a steel argent looking for the outlet resulting exact second down and 15 [Applause] state senator or 435 remaining in the fourth quarter [Music] [Applause] with penalty markers down he is tackled by Sam bill he picks up ten of those 15 yards but there's a flag down and it seems to be against the Seahawks the early indication offensive interference number 86 [Applause] [Music] that's a break for the Saints and too bad for the Seahawks stop for that time kid come down to us outlet receiver Kurt Warner part of the education process things even right if you do the right thing it may not turn out the way you want it because you got ten other guys on that field and sometimes you see they're all against Kelly stopper [Applause] we're tight there Isis on the far right here he's going to come across the field and appeared that he's going to be picking up - right there I can't believe they call them second down to 25 but the state closed on it and Williams is down at the 41 yard line of the Orleans by G Baskin he picked up 17 yards of those 25 so that will bring up a third down and eight with under four minutes remaining in the game thus either kind of just milling around waiting for the call they've got it gets moving here they're down by eight points they got to get the ball in the end zone they got to get it back in against the team that's very good at just sitting on the ball control on the ground and say something okay to try to there always comes a time when you need the quarterback to women third [Music] [Applause] [Music] to play and Britney sucks defending and that would have been the first and goal for Tommy Kane but they'll go it's not much you can say about this other than it's too bad it's just a drop pass this ball is well thrown you got to make that graph especially if you expect to win the game he had to reach back for it a little bit but this is the NFL you've got to make this catch if you're playing in the NFL so even though the ball was a little behind it that just what separates the winners and losers right now two rookies on that one play rookie sometimes can kill you Seahawks will go for any tooth or railing 22:12 offer up or down [Music] and I will turn the ball over to disease and the question for you Sam is why would Kelly stop or go to a rookie on two big plays in a row Bentley on fourth down he's trying to read the defense that's the only man that he saw that was open dropped one threw one bad we're back at the Kingdome in Seattle a capacity crowd at 65,000 and many of the fans are starting to make their way to the edges you know I've had that view of the dome before right here in the second that's what you see when you've been knocked down by a shake of green you look up and you see things swirling around did you see it as clearly as we thought after an ELISA Thomas Benson who normally does the dance on the sidelines right in the middle the things over he had to trade it Paris all for an umbrella here and after a first down for the safety for what [Applause] get to the 45 David Wyman on the stop well tonight on CBS if we sometime look like a wholly-owned the City area of Japan is it because our best negotiators are for sale to the other side well we'll find out on 60 minutes that's followed by Murder She Wrote and then it's part one that the CBS Sunday movie Out of Africa starring Meryl Streep and Robert Redford [Applause] that's coming up after football except on the west coast second down and six of the 45 for Bobby a bear [Music] [Applause] we'll bring up sir down and we'll soon get to the tomb in the morning and but this game did today for the New Orleans Saints besides making six in a row after the opening game lost their best dog ever they finally beat a real good club you mentioned that at the top the only tough team they played with San Francisco lost the opener now they beat the Ottawa get into the heart of this gift and they beat him here and Seattle one of the toughest place places for an opponent to win a ballgame they have really impressed me today next you know they've done everything that they said they wanted to do coming into the game they wanted to get some turnovers by their defense they knew they had to make some big plays well they got the block field goal for a touchdown but they're often has been so impressive a bear very cool in the pockets rolling to a lot of receivers Hayward's had a big day run the ball Rueben base looks super coming back to Washington very impressive football team they're going to be in the hunt the whole year if they are and some of their fans may travel all over to see them those fans who wrote that who - banner travels 2,500 miles today for this game and good balance 277 yards more on the ground and you looking for that the fourth water you know the things going in if you mentioned the idle it got the Raiders at home next week and then the RAM the Redskins the Rams on the road they have a few game that will run down some of the plaintiff some of the tougher games that they have meanwhile its third and five at the 46 [Applause] Vegas Rogers Road brian bosworth seahawks want to timeout but the clock will stop as a result of the penalty and the penalty saves them from you having to use that timeout so it's a double jeopardy type of penalty it'll be against New Orleans still holding now they'll refuse this one set up the fourth down punch get that ball back but only two minutes to go they're down by 8 and beat em for Seattle to win this one special teams coach rusty Tillman holding number 16 declines for town deep court Center will hold will be fourth down and Brian Hanson will come in to kick it away or the thing we had five turnovers in the first half of the game done in the second half the significant factor is Bobby Joe Evans goes back for the Seahawks is that Seattle able to capitalize on the street [Music] [Applause] [Music] 25-yard line with two old free to go so they'll get one playoff so for the two in the morning that's a tough situation to be and as a returned man because you're looking for that big return but you know that they're they've got an all-out lot going trying to block that punt the only thing the Seahawks could do at that point was to try to block it into here Edmonds catches the ball without any help he's got to do it on his own 22:12 our scores been tight throughout [Applause] [Music] [Applause] big bite of the game was the blocked field goal in Dave Weimar 58 yard return for the touchdown earth contained on the 25 got it out 21 yards up to the 46 and now our two-minute warning here at the Kingdome we'll be back in just a moment Kingdome in Seattle Washington dick Stockton and Dan Fouts the thanks lead the Seahawks 20 to 12 he's having our two-minute warning and he's seen as two timeouts remaining Seattle needing to score failed on fourth down in their last possession the annal been losing for the second time in three starts at home although they have 300 in four games here at the Kingdome first down for the Seahawks at the 48 yard line they and if not you Hilda given up a touchdown in the fourth quarter this year [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] incomplete ended for Largent he faced them caches today but he's also dropped one or two Brad Edelman the left guard ice played by Milton Mac at the very end of this play is stripping the ball from Largent with his left hand there that's double coverage there and that's what Largent has been faced with throughout his career it's amazing that all the records that he has facing that type of coverage he's a remarkable receiver second down and 10 at the 46 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] it's not the clock with what for after a gain of 17 yards this is really the first situation that Kelly stoppers been put in where he has to come from behind and try to win the game this is a part of the development of a young quarterback is this type of situation but it's really the last type of thing you have to learn and there's only one way to learn it you don't learn it in practice you don't learn it in training camp you learn it by getting out there in this type of situation and just doing first down for the Seahawks Thompson faced 30 tests they need a touchdown and a field goal [Applause] by Ricky Jackson on the pass intended for Jarnell Williams there's Bobby a bear [Music] [Applause] on his way to another victory a bear threw a touchdown pass to Eric Barton today the only touchdown scored by the outfit I think they're doing a little celebrating down there and cut off Louisiana why not right up nothing like a win and Bobby Hebert really playing this football I was very very impressed with his performance after he tried out for Chuck dot about four years ago but he wanted to guarantee contracts and stuff let's do it you have a little leverage Sydney opponent creation coming on you FFL second I saw her going up high okay [Applause] he napkins is all right Weimar the intended receiver was Bryant blade Weimar was covering and active those who had teamed up for the big play of this ball game and they'll bring up third down he's lucky he's okay he really hit the wall hard that wall is padded by about a four-inch pad and the old temp drill comes into play but to this way out of the end zone now watch how he falls right into the padded wall behind that sign there oh he got he got a little break there the extra padding content photographers leg [Applause] [Music] the bbod when I've got to see my mom there he can't sit there sir [Music] [Music] and now the Seahawks will call a timeout they have one left BAM Jake's on the stop that middle screen is very effective in this situation because the defensive line is only rushing three men they're dropping off eight into the zone and what happens is they let those three rushers get into a quarterback and then there's five men in front of that so that running that ball carry going down the field hopper over the sidelines and let's take a look at the same schedule and it gets tougher as we said started with today of course the Raiders at home and then look at the next game Rams watching this game is really a boost for them too because all these teams are capable of being in the playoff so many of the more last year and if the Saints expect to repeat their great year of last year they're going to have to earn it they've won that they women hold on to this game ill of won 18 of their last 22 which has got to be amongst the best in the league 50 seconds left in Anaheim and the 49ers major Ram 24 to 21,000 49ers hold onto that lead and the face go on in the hold on to their lead here the faith will be all by themselves atop the NFC West Division with a record she did not do that [Applause] soccer overthrows Williams 111 on the clock let's check the standing it'll be a wild race the entire year the 49ers move moved to five and to the world on Saints will be six and one the Rams will drop to 5 and two in Atlanta well maybe next year so having the lead in this race free team race and many people feel that probably at least one wild card will come from the NFC Western Division now Minnesota long to Green Bay today and now they have fallen a couple of games off the picks of the band the NFC West may have the three best teams in the National Football Conference they have a to vent last second he runs out of bounds and stops the clock with 104 to go penalty marker cat and Ricky's done with air maybe the extra hit will give him half the distance to the goal line let's see what happens at the very end here if he gets a little face Matt fall again I hate to see that type of play I know that they're trying as hard as they can to make the tackle but here you've got them pinned in against the side line a nice little shove out of bounds to be just fine I don't think that the league is doing enough to prevent flagrant penalties like that back to the guilty party [Music] we want to welcome the viewers who saw the Denver Broncos to beat the Atlanta Falcons 3214 at Mile High Stadium this is a shotgun and a and foul we're in the fourth quarter 104 remains the New Orleans leading Seattle by eight points 22:12 the Seahawks with rookie Kelly stopper have a first ago Lonnie's one it's pretty horny to cut down in the people the oldest came out first of all copper and through incomplete depending on the play pause and Z the intended receiver and Van Jenks defending Natalie up second down with exactly a minute to play Seahawks have had trouble all year long scoring in the fourth quarter they've only scored 13 points they're shut out so far today now the key to this ballgame the tendinitis inks were leading in the third quarter Lauren Johnson was poised to kick a field goal to perhaps give Emily a block by actions run back by Weimer the big play of the game a blocked field goal on the special teams and both teams came into the game thinking that that might be the difference in size of five keep in mind the I would only one time on Jim Mora watching the three whether he makes it [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] his second of the year [Applause] [Music] stopper liftoff the field is now 22:18 and you know us coming after the conversion it's great to have a strong arm quarterback we talked about touched and everything but sometimes you got to drill that ball in there that was a drill shot two blades for the touchdown Norman will try to bring Seattle to within one point in seconds the gold [Applause] good 22 we'll be looking for the onside kick they are three points away a dorm Johnson field goal away from pulling out a dramatic win if they can get to this single look at the pass protection here for stopper he stands in the pocket strong comes over the top and like as I said earlier he drilled it right in there Blaine has been very impressive today Stafford showing me a lot too I think he's really progressing as far as his development as a quarterback he's taking up right now keep in mind that he has replaced the veteran Dave Greg was out with a shoulder separation Kelly stopper we sat out last year and did not sign with the Cardinal he drafted him number one and engineered victories on the road over Atlanta and Cleveland and trying to bring the seahawks back here with 38 seconds to go Seahawks have an excellent special teams coach and rusty Tillman he is one of the more enthusiastic coaches in the NFL he does not leave any stone unturned you can be sure that the Seahawks have practiced the onside kick many orange onsen is a very underrated field goal and kickoff kicker and this should be a very exciting place [Music] that's how the Seahawks line up they put everyone to the left side and they are running from 15 yards back though when they make contact with the Saints they're coming with a little bit of quartz here here's the [Applause] [Music] the America Martin headed this for the things that he does Eric Martin went up high and grabbed the ball for the New Orleans Saints and the onside kick attempt came growth but did not work and New Orleans has it and the reaction of rusty Tillman says it all watch the force that the Hawks come with here they're coming for 15 yards back Johnson gets a great bounce this is exactly what you want a high bounce but Martin stays with it shows the concentration you got to have and that's why he's done the special teams rusting Tillman is just the kind of self [Music] with 37 seconds to go Seattle has only one timeout left they have the ball on their own 46 and they're going to force the Seahawks to call a timeout though the 49ers over the RAM and if the Saints hold on to the lead and they're in control they will move into undisputed possession the first place in the NFC western division with six consecutive victories following their opening game loss to the 49ers in gym Barra has seen his team had to come from behind most of this year really show well in adversity three turnovers they didn't allow the Seahawks to score with three ternal very satisfying win for Mora he coached at the University of Washington here in Seattle for about seven years a lot of friends are in attendance today he's very he's a good coach how what else can you say he's done the job he's got a team that's very confident they don't make a lot of mistakes they play conservatively and yet they execute when they have to not only did he coach the University of Washington but he was the defensive line coach with the Seahawks that was his first NFL job he spent seven years here in the Pacific Northwest seahorses use their last timeout and it should do it so the New Orleans Saints will tend to feed on the Seattle Seahawks who will move into a tie for first with Denver in the AFC West but get more dates are six and one on the year and maybe as impressive as anything than the fact they are now four and old Walker [Applause] we've got to win on the road is there no supper place to win that the Seattle Kingdom agreed we'll be back at the Kings old the final score the saves 22 Seahawks 19 [Applause] [Music]
