NEW ORKS Codex vs Death Guard - A 10th Edition Warhammer 40k Battle Report

welcome back to tabletop Titans for another epic game of Warhammer 40,000 welcome to the continuation of orc week we are here we've been many places with the Orcs this week we've been to the depths of the Jungle we've been to the desert lusious beach today we're going to the Moon folks we are here you're taking the moon we're taking the Moon Turns out though there's death card on the moon and we can't have that so we're excited to be playing against the death guard we were here first okay this is our moon this is our moon find your own Moon yeah this Moon I'm told by Bridger not made of cheese but still valuable for all of us you know that's that's something we're into if you want to see more of this content more talk to the moon hit that like And subscribe button down below it and take a look at the armies the Orcs right again today we're playing the great hunt which is of course a Detachment all about squigs and Beast snaggers I cannot wait to see them hit the table today for the first time let's go my warlord today is mozog scrag bad and he's going to be joining a unit of eight Squig hog boys that's right you heard it eight Squig Hogs because the knobs on Smash of squigs are now wrapped into the unit and mozog and the Beast bosses can now join them we also have a beast boss on sasur with glory hog this is going to grant them a 9in scout move so they can get stuck in sooner and of course they'll be joining a unit of eight Squig hog boys our final unit of Squig hog boys is accompanied by another Beast boss on Squig aaur this one with sirly as a squiggoth this is basically old style transhuman so if someone would wound me on a two or three instead they wound me on one worse following up those big bricks we have a beast boss with proper Killy for plus one damage end up joining a unit of 10 beast nagab boys and trucks and we have another Beast boss joining another unit of 10 Beast nagga Boys in a truck last of all we have three units of 10 Gretchen to give us extra CP and hold down the back field while we're charging up front with the w the plan for this list is to put as much pressure as possible onto Bridger early game we're going to be using our great hunt ability to take out his transports and mortarion if the opportunity presents itself GRS will be holding down and screening back objectives and of course I'm going to keep an eye out on the ability to upy Downy those Beast nagab Boys in case I need some late game scoring a big thank you of course today to Baron of dice for sponsoring this Big W episode we are of course using the classic black dice that are perfect for your orc armies there's a ton of other excellent selections for this faction if you haven't tried out Baran dice before we definitely recommend it they are high quality dice that are hand poured resin in a silicone mold there's a huge amount of different selections between different armies factions game systems if you want something I'm sure you can find find it on Baron of dice and of course if you're Primark you can get that extra discount for the death guard side of things we're taking some cues from successful death guard list at the moment we're seeing a lot of plague Marines we're seeing a Resurgence of tough tanks and just a bit of utility on the side that can take the form of either allies or just Mass plague Marines Brier's warer today is mortarion himself he hits decently hard is annoying to kill and of course can pass out the ability to ignore modifiers which is quite excellent with some of these units we have two brick of 10 plague Marines riding around in their own Rhino and both of them are joined by a biologist putrifier for some lethal hits and grenade action and foul blight spawn that's going to give them the fight first ability this means that they can be safe in their transports ride up plant on an objective and be very very difficult to charge which should be an interesting challenge for the Orcs we also have typhus today joining a unit of three death trout Terminators they are a great rapid iners Target that can threaten my backfield and we have a number of utility squads in the form of five plague Marines and of 10 cultists we have two units of three nurglings that can drop in the sides and the backs to score secondaries and we have some Firepower in the form of two plague burst crawlers these Each of which have the flamers with the Fantastic anti-infantry 2 plus ability and some indirect and we have two FedEd bloat drones Each of which have a flesh mower the way that this list is going to work is the plague Marines can plant up in the middle objectives when it's time to make the move forwards the FedEd bloat drones and the cultist make for some early game trades onto midp points and scoring secondaries and of course Morty is bringing up the rear providing those abilities to ignore negative modifiers and hit the Orcs where it hurts the most as always let us know who you're reading for we've got two green and stinky armies going against each other let's do it is crumping time we are going to have this bash on the moon we have a mission picked out just for y'all folks today so let's take a look at what we have we are playing hot dog of war five objectives going uh hot dog Wise It's going to be High drop so this means one objective in the middle is going to disappear turn four round four and one objective is going to disappear round five the final objective is going to slurp up all those points and be worth a ton at the end of the game so this is one of those classic missions where you basically want to go second or table your opponent classic supply lines we have supply drop we also have supply lines which means if we hold our back objective on a four plus we get a sa pay which going to be nice uh cuz you don't have GRS so I don't know got to help you out I don't have tman that's that's that's kind of is really also if I go first I can't do GRS so and can't do supply drop supply lines for the same reason oh no one of those weird things in the game that's not fun I agree well let's take a look at the top down and see what we have going on on this here Moon you can see the five three objectives across the center uh one in each home base train pretty simple today everything is going to be a rune we have no crates or craters or whatever uh um yeah and basically if you want to be able to see into pass something you're just going to touch into it because there's no base so we're doing that style these big thick buildings we cannot stop inside of but we can pass through because they are ruins oo with that it's time for a y fashioned Baron of dice sponsored rollof I've got Adrian with the black dice you have black orc Dice and I have white with a lot of blood chaos dice this is a test of probably two of our most powerful Baron dice these are some of our most powerful dice they have a long history yours Pally I'm I'm I'm a little scared to go against the the the chaos dice they're very strong so whoever rolls highest has to go first that's it ready for this oh it's chaos time starting off with a six cannot be stopped good luck fun oh this is going to be great oh I do have a scout move I don't know if you have any we also have to determine which objectives go away oh gosh um do I do my Scout move first uh I guess it doesn't I'm going to go forward so let's let's you you you do the first one oh I so it's going to be 1 2 3 4 5 6 this is the one that disappears in battle round four it's going away going away three the middle the middle no we're both unhappy about that that's true actually so The Middle's going away on turn four yeah and then I will roll on a 1 two three four five six this is the objective that remains it's the last one the last to stand uh I think we know what we're each hoping for here dang it no not the one with all my squigs on it so this will disappear round four this will disappear this this will dis be round five yes um and until then they're each worth five points for holding them in the middle I'm going to do my quick Scout move over here yeah you get moving your varint your vment scouting on up let's go let's go let's go let's go I don't have anything to do in command phase I don't have any I don't roll dice all I guess I just do secondar we can go to my secondaries second fiddle fatling around okay let's do some secondaries yeah here it comes okay you're ready for these and bring it down and capture enemy out what oh my God L what so okay Bri little be is always asking for capture on me Outpost round one and I is a delay I will say there is a secondary reest just came in from the front line first turn capture I got you little bee I don't want this nobody ask for this all right well I'm keeping them yeah I do have trucks that you could maybe kill um uhhuh y I love it yeah uh I don't get the four up because I didn't control an objective cuz that's how the game works and that one's that cuz that one's start of battle round right huh that one's not end of Comm pH which one but is it start or end of pH uh supply lines supply lines player controls the objective in their own deployment at the start of their command phase yeah you control objectives at the start of the first command that was my last attempt to try to give you that CP sorry I'm GNA get Ash moving let's do it okay um so chat is saying just now that Capt if you get capture first turn you you roll no let me let me just it doesn't sound right no cuz in theory the software handles all that no I know if you get overwhelming un among others well she'll she'll she'll look it up chat chat send me sources what does the card say it would just be on the card yeah it would have to be on the card oh would have to be on the card yeah yeah they'll just say it there I don't think it's going to be it's not on the end of the card it's a very short card it should be it should it's not overwhelming Force I'm sorry uh capture on The Outpost no storm hostile you can't do turn one cuz they don't have anything yet yeah which is funny because like they could yeah it's like more feasible but anyway they could but maximum squigs today uh we're just basically capping out every Detachment we can and then we're going to tone it back later on if if if if we feel like it but uh first games out of the book are all about pushing the limits pushing the boundaries of what's possible push it to the Limit going be great that's the song that's right it was a good song uh we do have some gifted Su gifted uh like inms the whole game aren't you no because so squigs actually have four up saves so when I'm not in W two 2 AP is actually nice okay yeah I'll go save yeah I think it's like the only or well and you're not OC and you're not oc2 so we are oc2 oh you can have my OC I could I could do oh that's pretty good too yeah all the C is OC too so and actually my whole Army is 2 basically this is a tough choice it is a tough choice actually um I think I'm actually going to struggle to kill you yeah due to your tness I do have a lot of lethal yeah I have uh in fact a lot of lethal on fives mhmh so AP is a a real consideration but I think you're going to be on inals on the key turn this isn't a double no this isn't a double w double w yeah and we have not called W well I guess you wouldn't know that but but this is genuinely a tough this is a tough decision yeah I think interesting I I'm going to go minus 10 and it has something else attached to it mhm on leadership or something oh um I'll figure that out later I'm going to go with it it's rather than leaning into a way to fix the thing you're concerned about in the matchup which is killing me you're going to pick the thing that basically makes that not necessarily necessary yeah just take objectives I'm going try to outlast you classic death guard look at this I'll do what I can I like it cool cool Co well I'm going to grab remembered yeah and this rhino has firing ports but I don't think I have anything long in the FR I do BL launchers the BL launchers chat we want to know uh plasma guns versus blight launchers um we've kind of Taken things from things that we're seeing people play I want to know death card players what do you like what do you like on your play do you like what flavor on your burger um but today we upy Downy that was stapled to Allis uh got fixed to this really they can't do a turn one I mean they can just puts them in reserve and they can't come back down it's so sad it's probably for the best for the best because that means you have to interact with your opponent but well I mean this was aggressive interaction this was like yeah yeah yeah too much interaction so true so true uh cool with that we're off to the Orcs okay we're going to get at least one CP uh we have supply lines and we have GRS so as long as one of these is a four plus we're going to get a SE up hey you don't get both there's rust here which means they also air so this is definitely not Earth Moon this is different right different Moon I don't know might not even really be a moon that's no moon we're just calling it a moon yeah this could be just an orc Rock actually on Space man transports are good yep if I kill the transports you guys get out yep you have OC you half My OC yep huh yep that's pretty good transports they they done be doing the thing yeah now you could just stand next to my transport and then have more OC I want to get crumping people call me green tow green Orcs they're going to call me names if I don't um well they're going to call you names out of the way so yeah that's true it's a consolation that is that is a fantastic Point all right cool moving up but yeah thanks corra Chat has three likes you know there are people who work at Google to get paid a Preposterous amount of money and they make these decisions and that's it that's all they do is like sit around in a conference room and they talk about whether or not you should add likes to Super Chats on YouTube yeah just throwing that out there that's a real job that gets paid way more than any of us amaz it's a little disappointing actually oh too good I can't why why is this a feature like I don't know I don't know now I cannot like these I can still only heart but I can see liking is only for the people yeah okay I I don't know are we're going to start having like threads that come out of a Super Chat like somebody super chats and then you could comment under the Super Chat no it's just a forum all right we have this new thing called AOL the whole internet reverts to forums yes it's too good oh it's going to happen though you know it's going to happen I know it's going to happen that's going to that's a thing yeah oh my gosh what are you who are you homering with I think I'm going to just Homer with some squigs just you know politely um you would control this if I what's the OC on your boy uh a bloat drone is oc3 three yes sir and then your play range is three right now yeah is it going to be higher next turn no it's one right now it'll be three or next turn Okay so as long as the M start a three three okay so we'll put two squigs on the point I was not going to put any on the point but then I'm like I need to I need to stop you because you're going to be doing denying out a lot of my points later on so I need to start by denying yours I also need to pick my Hunt Target oh who's your target my Hunt Target um and a little conflicted because I'm trying to basically stall any decisions whatsoever um meaning like am I actually trying to kill this turn am I not trying to kill I feel like I'm not trying to kill and then next turn is kind of the go turn um like we have to homers here that's fine um I don't want to get too close to Morty until we have like the upper hand um so you have The High Ground the high high yield and then these Beast sagas I'd be a bit worried about you charging but then you're leaving the point if we just stay here uh we can toss some advance to take this from you or Rhino only oc2 only oc2 okay okay um right and it's only one inch range right now we need to stay outside of three so yeah I feel like killing these rhinos they're actually rhinos even though this one's a termite it's just a fancy Rhino it's not going to do me any favers um I will pick this this bloat drumman as my Hunt Target in case you charge me it's kind of like a reverse oath uh we'll Advance these squigs just to get get on up there a bit there we go beautiful h so now Cobra Super Chat has 17 I pointed it out look at look at this uh this interaction that we're driving with the community oh yeah it's really quality right there yeah this is this is good entertainment for them at home they get to click a button if good about it exactly exactly I'm into it that's what the internet is devolved to says I'm finding all these likes very reaffirming yeah hey I'm glad Cobra gets to feel good about it yeah yeah yeah exactly something good has come from the ability to like super chat those guys in the boardroom they're doing a job great job yeah you're don't kill it I'm going to throw four Spears we hit with one wins on a five hey AP1 oh is this one damage two damage oh AP1 AP1 you get cover so three h h nice okay easy I was thinking if it's one damage I just heal at the start of my turn oh yeah that's fair that's fair um look that is going to be it so we're investigating in the corners Homer in the middle we're passing over to a good friend the death guard so it's a fourpoint signals yep and a three-point homers I I like it not a bad turn yeah it's okay it's a little bit quiet and we're going to go to top of round two in which the phrase [Applause] is let's go five plus plus one attack plus one strength ADV and charge it's going to be great all the things yeah it's happening Morty at the start of battle round chooses roll ones to win classic Morty uh cool we'll go straight to my command phase yes where I get some secondary okay your secondaries let's see let's see let see let's see Ando there you go cleanse and storm hostile well Storm hostile okay pretty chill yeah cleanse could also be kind of chill right yeah yeah cleanse is so storm is just take an objective from me cleanse is do actions on objectives outside of z mle um outside of my deployment Zone I deployment zoney Zone correct no no you could do it on my own I could do it on yours three points for one five points for two yeah yeah you actually have a lot of options um I don't envy you those those decisions kind of pass the the Baton to you like hey make these decisions I feel all right yeah I'm too bad uh I do get five primary for this home would you like a supply line good set oh no way yes on a four plus it's a command point oh it is not if I got that yeah no I'm going to do it anyway I'm going to spend a CP on uh nurel's gift what is it called Gifts of Decay I'm just going to heal that drone rude three if it was on an infected objective it would heal full three wow I'll heal two it's up to nine okay okay I have too many command points although I shouldn't be squandering them cuz 2 CP minus one damage in combat is going to come up this game it's definitely gonna come up it's gonna be scary well I'm gonna get moving yeah and grooving characters can I see those models cuz what I need to do in order to fight them I need to leave you enough space to get out without doing the 6 in because if you get the 6 inch you can just be out of but it was cool I remember it was really fun to play the Squig Detachment I'm looking forward to more of it um this this was partially my my my my concern with this Detachment is I can only be good at killing certain things yeah which are you know Vehicles monsters those are popular but every turn you might not want to have to deal with that and then the strats are like very very Niche so from a strength perspective it's kind of lacking right but it is it is a lot of fun it is fun to like have the prey I love the plus one damage especially on the devast boss the upy Downy Beast sagas I want to try a list with more just regular Beast sagas um so you can take advantage of that um but for the first game I just wanted to be like let's just do all squigs and see what happens and they're cool it's a great data sheet they have good stats mhm so yeah I don't know what do you think of uh the death god um I mean rhinos are great the shooty plague Marines didn't get to shoot at any point yeah sorry about that no it's okay I think if they did shoot it would have been less cool yeah they were very scary they were menacing yeah they menaced you and I felt the menaced energy and I fed off of it the chaos dice loved it um even without shooty plague Marines shooting the Army still did great mhm mhm I think I think death guard's in a good spot um and it feels like an actual death guard Army then two War Dog brigin naturally so you got some nice Firepower backing it up um it's a very corn list it's very corn I like it a lot um the demon Prince I have trouble using in demons ironically is he walking or flying flying so this is uh tank shock believe that Mortals on the charge and then fighting um which is good and I guess he's faster but I just have a tough time delivering them and having them do enough it's like a mini blood thirster basically yeah I remember looking at corn at the start of 10th yeah and being excited about some of these things and then thinking I don't know how this actually works on the table MH just like on paper it looks awesome yeah but then there's always the practicality if you have to get into combat thing I mean you have the you can do the 6in charge with with the Shadow and everything um but like nothing in this list can go through walls no he's got just blood letters blood letters and Hounds hounds are beasts oh so they can I think I do think that's important also for scoring so you have two units of those and then there's two blood letters without characters so they are kind of just ready to like score and do stuff so I like it I think I like it the demon prints I would keep an eye on personally red Masters are real good yeah the blood Letter characters are nuts this is pick plus one damage all with all your stuff makes that makes that demon Prince even nastier so good so and I think I think the war dogs are nice like you got to bring a bit of shooting and you're not going to find much better than more dog bin just green tide Detachment they seem to need something to punch though is Mo it oh for the green tide attachment no I don't think so I think because Moz you can run M by himself he's less tough than he was and if you're not running the war horde you're not going to have the minus one to wound which is kind of important I honestly felt so I think like squigs and this Detachment get cool things but they also like the war hords they get the sustain back they get the minus one to wound back like those are kind of important to be honest um and then they also in uh bully boys right double which is really good although although although yeah I anticipate that Detachment getting the old canopic FAQ where it's like oh we didn't realize what we really made when we said it could just be a unit with a cryp tech in it yeah yeah I think I think that's fair if you could just stick a boss in anything and it gets all the rules yeah that that's probably not going to last well especially cuz Beast bosses are like not even traditional bosses like they don't give you the plus one to hit which is like what war bosses do so I think it wouldn't be unreasonable for them to be like take away that War Boss keyword yeah um so all this to say I don't think mozog is necessarily the punch because again most of his attacks AP1 right you don't actually have a way to increase AP in that to attachment um which this one you do so I actually like that's something I like about him in this one um punch I think some I think you need War losses in all in as many of the Big Blocks as you can cuz it's a bunch of small attacks but then like Focus your your War Boss your pain booy and your knob to one side you know you're going to be spread out but like decide where you want the combat like point to be and then use that strong side weak side old principle yep and mega knobs great in every Detachment so I would take a unit of Mega knobs for sure in uh the green tide but um yeah there's so much to try this is just just first pass this is literally my first game with this attachment so um I think I'm going to take it to play on next week um I would like to take the speed Freaks and maybe play them on Thursday but we're going to have to figure out packing Wise It's a big it's hard travel yeah when I went I took just it was like half of one GW box with custodes cuz they're so easy to travel with thing yeah cuz you also need to be able to do multiple shows and stuff so right yeah yeah they they do have a lot of armies you could probably borrow that's true that's true big borro I want to be these in order in ninth Edition actions were a thing like a part of the rules and pox walkers had a rule on their sheet that said can't do actions except yeah puking on things there was a death guard secondary where you puked on objectives and they could do that they can do actions in 10th because actions don't exist anymore and they don't have that rule so that just your bad that's my bad yeah um this is a good question about this is a good question because it's like I said in the beginning when you say minus one ballistic skill minus one weapon skill that sounds good in a vacuum so why is that the least taken and why wouldn't you take it against Orcs so minus one save is pretty clearly the most impactful most of the time it's never bad yeah except against like Harley quins right unless unless they only have an inol which is more and more rare as this game goes on then it does something in all cases and that's just good broadly applicable minus one OC is a little bit more narrow M especially the minus one leadership is like barely ever relevant but the minus10 is like are you against a lot of 20 stuff where you think they're going to bully you off objectives in this game that was the case it was a tough call but I think this was right yeah I think you did make there was several Inc casions where I was like if only I could this this would have happened or I could have done something that just wasn't an option because you had you had minus 10 OC right minus one weapon skill and Ballistic skill is I think the most narrow why because ballistic skill on their turn they get to move just walk out of your contagion range and then they're like cool your rules don't do anything and they want walk away from you anyway cuz your death guard and you're punching them exactly so the minus one weapon skill is like the relevant part mhm and it's more effective the worse their weapon skill already was right when you go from twos to threes it's like not that big of a hit yeah a lot of armies are already hitting on twos and threes in combat yeah threes to Fours is when I would start to consider it but when you're comparing to the other two it's like those are just better right because it's like as a percentage like if you're a if you're shooty Orcs And they're hitting on fives and you're going to sixes that's a 50% reduction awful whereas if it's two to three it's like um it's tiny less than 16% reduction right nothing so and the other thing the other thing about reducing weapon skill and Ballistic skill is it's a very um it doesn't put you in the driver's seat it says they're going to be worth of what they do whereas the other ones basically make you better at doing what you do right and we're talking like the minus 10c you notice we're not talking about it in terms of like making it easier to defend points we're talking about in terms of making it easier to take points so you can take objectives they AP is better for killing you know doesn't matter what their weapon skill is if they're dead exactly same with OC and that's kind of like the order of operations yeah um it's a good question though honestly it is a good question appreciate thank you thank you um and then we have another one that came through just came through from Siege Roots thank you Siege roots for the $10 Super Chat and they say I don't like how GW doesn't tell us things about development why does every Department in GW work in a vacuum I feel like I'm less engaged this addition but gives me more hobby time and saves me money it is true um they have reasons I don't think they're good reasons and I think they're very like um conservative in their thinking business-wise and like public facing wise it has gotten better and frankly I think it's actually been better in it's gotten worse recently right um the last few months it's just like man every every single thing they seem to post is negative or done in a negative fashion it's just like they're just not thinking about it so I know they have reasons I just don't agree with those reasons they're being overly protective about what they're working on so I agree frankly I think it would be to their benefit if they were at least a little bit more open um they're obviously worried about getting burned on some things and in some ways no matter what they do we're going to complain but I think they've gone a little too quiet on things I think it would serve them well have more of an open conversation with everyone yeah I think they don't understand which weird I think that their leadership does not understand the value of communicating with your audience and they also don't understand what they are protecting and why so like yeah they're not a hedge fund who has specific uh investing strategies where the whole business is actually just Secrets right they're not that no they are a creative company that makes cool IP and models and stories none of that has to be secret you can work on that and communicate that with your audience and build hype they want control over the pipeline of release of information and I think they've gotten a Tighter and Tighter grip over years because of leaks but they don't recognize that those are entirely disconnected right exactly and that seizing The Narrative of a release by communicating better and being more transparent would prove the leak problem not directly but indirectly of like okay cool now you're in charge of the information cuz you're releasing it the leaks they've tried forever they're not going to stop the leaks because they have a massive distribution Network and it's always been in the distribution Network oh not a conspiracy theory every single time that they do a retrospective on like well where did this leak come from oh it's some warehouse guy anywhere in the World Imagine That I know I know it's like the play tester thing CRA down on everybody else it's literally these leaks literally could not have come from play testers cuz they're versions that they never had never saw it's literally not possible um and I think I think there's a key thing there where you talk about leadership like it's the high high ups there's a lot of obviously there a lot of amazing creative people at GW that are great and awesome and trying and especially the people that we li on with directly like they're they're doing their best and they're trying to convince the old leadership guard um that aren't any of the public faces that any of us see right um but that's the reality so good question thank you yeah and with that
