NEW "No Snag" Catfish Rig: The Dragon Tail Catfish Rig

this time on wildcatters TV Steve Douglas interviews pro angler Larry muse Larry's well-known in the fishing world and you probably heard his name a lot because he along with partners Don Dalton and John Stevens just won the monsters on the Ohio tournament on this video Larry shears will Steve a brand new way to rig Larry introduces us to a brand new and unique rig that he's made popular in the interview Larry shows us how it's set up and how it works now here's your host Steve Douglas okay guys I'm killing the monsters on the Ohio here in holes bro Kentucky and I've got my friend Larry moose with me Larry is a mass Pro champ pogchamp bringing his brother now right Larry's been in business a long time but he's got a very unique rig that he uses and in catfishing there's not a lot of rigs are kind of overdone in campus and you got Carolina video you got Santee Cooper red but this ring is designed for dragging it's a really unique system and I'd like to share it with you guys Larry can you explain what you got here yeah what I've got right here is something that I'm using up your own Ohio River now what I showed one on catfish weekly that was 30 inches off and I actually had the same amount of layers in it you can do this without booking you too the teaming is happy told a38 time so this is just like this is just just some rubber to aquaria - huh yeah okay are you bad in 2015 for two 20-foot rows that are loans from the right thing right and I put a foot 14 inch 12 14 inches you got around 4 ounces I believe if you put that much birdshot best thing the only birdshot is get some reclaimed shot right they reclaim that stuff if these trap and skeet range is right and you can buy a little cheaper and you can new shot but you can use food shot yep okay shot you can DW $10 a bag difference in you okay you can usually get a 20 pound bag or 20 25 25 pound bag around 40 blows okay it's allowed to make a lot of secret you know that's going to make 100 singers 40 40 books just to lay it right that's not that's not right all right what I do I take a payout is trying to find something right size plug that thing with and I found these orange wire nuts oh you a pretty good job okay well and place two purposes one thing it plugs it and what I do you can use I'll use some guerrilla glue that grill glue works pretty good it ain't the greatest thing in the world some marine silicone works good I don't know if anything is just super but right it'll work and glue that stuff in there do that or wire nut in there what it does you can take I screw I don't know if you can see that or not that I screw a screw right down in that wire nut oh my gosh okay you screw it in it and and to keep it from accidentally backing out of something when I do screw me the first time I'll pry them out of the I screw open and I put my I put me a snap swivel on there I have put three ways swivels on there and went straight to the three-way with that and built the rigs well I found out figured out it was hard to store very like that with this thing always on their permit well these are fixed with a snap swivel and shorten them up song and these are not as hang free as my first as the ones that I show on captures we can dry date that's my born on my first okay I've been messing with this wrong I've had them five foot home Ralph I had them shorter than that but anyway this works really good and it's easy to store I got it with y'all time but when you uh when you put that I screw and I just open up I screw put your swivel on it and then squeeze it back down and then when you screw it into your windup you go getting screwed in there good and tight and then taking a drop of superglue hit it like that that you can buy break moves grind spin loose and so it's always something alright then I tie up my rig part and I put it in one of these rig wraps now big wraps is really starting to target the catfish world I'm sorry see them all around man and I this for some of the first things that they introduced to the carry they're very handy and I grab a handful every time I get a chance when they giving them away booty I get me some ever I use and that keep you ducky rig this thing right here you can go ahead and type that on you you can go ahead and tie this on your pole and just have that hanging up right like that right there is that a three-way or it is three right now what that is you can get this from Bass Pro you get it uh it's in the offshore angler group and what it looks like is two barrel swivels it looks like one barrel swivel with the I of it shelf that I have another barrels were exactly but that's not what it is they're excellent make that way it's a three-way swivel make that one you look that's pretty good job I like right does good job but it's in the offshore angry booth go fast pro and I think that this is a one out precise day right all right that way I can store these I've got this snaps middle and then I'll take Gibbs snap it on there after I get it usually you know get it tied on the pole first but I snap this on right here in this swivel close that and when you get ready to open I usually go ahead and just tie my PO - all right well I don't strung out all in the way okay and when I get ready to use it let's open this up and what I've done when I wrap this up in here I wrapped it all up in this rig wrap well when I rec wrapped it up that's one of my clear balloons right there I've been working with those just a little bit right oh yeah this is this guys this is a Larry's been using this a long time but he's perfecting it as he goes along so as you said just have a cork on it than you went to that's right try this first time I've showed anybody really these ones as far as uh and you said this one will come after a couple days didn't Brody like this term yeah okay don't you gonna let the cat out back this year okay alright let's get past monsters on the Ohio term but never lay there you go and let them work with that a while then I have something you next yeah alright but what I what God I just don't want that bang off this rig grapple it's all in good shape and the lines all real nice we're protected from the Sun never thank your old vet daughter yes sir I still got my bloating today and I've got two clones in there other something happens or [ __ ] hits one ties it up then I got another bloom out radio knocking on the ground but up that's what you basically got right there those things about boarded by fleet on something like that and I've got that beat swiveling middle of it okay say that right there say that beat swim in the middle they've had helped wit yeah I hips on the twist a lot and now what contacts are you using this secret around here comes our sixty up to the ladders are you coming that's sixty pound test and reason I like 60 over fifty it's just a little bit stiffer and it just a just don't party tangle this right and it's easier to get loose to those and that's why I like 60-plus I feel a lot better when I win that will big fish gets owner if I got a 60 pound without an important you know the exactly but but anyway now this original design to drag across the bottom of flats now Larry Larry's experimenting with dragging in trees and things that isn't where he's come up with this idea and a lot of it you know a lot of dragon is there's no of Windsor drag and if I can suspend fish and if I've got any current at all I'll suspend fish off the ball father sometime I'll suspend fish handbook mom if the car's just right I put a little heavier egg sinker on my suspend impose and suspense huh can take a lighter sinker and bottom back now the motors under it then run and if I've got current I'm gonna do stuff like that but when there's absolutely no current and I've got to I've got to try to I've got to try to present a faith to this many fish in that rivers I can because only one out of a hundred of them probably gonna fire on an open then I start dragging stuff around saying do y'all hear y'all rickety out you want this and so that's the reason for this rig and last year we got we got inside third place six times in turns and three out of them six I didn't have a fish in the boat at 11 o'clock grote didn't have a patient about 11 o'clock tied to these own started good long and then come in come in and top three and offer either well that's all that's they want well the thing is you've got try different things throughout the day just pick stick with one rig you can stick with one technique that's right bits aren't working you need to find something okay alright hope this right here just like implements the women blows I'll show you something about this place okay all right take that one right there and by the way I've been thinking about this for a long time come on Catherine sweetie yeah on a name for this you have come a big way but on my way over there okay alright well what is tracking take a dragon tiger's tail but now I was thinking the longer once you have you know yeah yes I gotta catch him dragon tail yeah kind of cool but you know Larry Larry come up with this this week and I'm not liking he's been using like say he's won fast chromes angler of the year three times in a row and it ain't because he's in and in that time you know straight years I have not done to make yeah so this is ounces of plumbing on top of the water okay all right you want this rig down just about like a golf ball oh yeah okay that's what you want that's plenty oh that's clean the bullet see the whole debate up because you bytes almost floating in it ain't far look less resistant I'll add this stuff in my bathtub that's dedication guys when you're in the bathtub yeah all right see how much play takes plug all right this right here I like it about four inches from my mm all right just wrap this around one two three times like that right there and then tack I already tied it oh they're right and then just take the restroom wrap it around three times and tight now look at that fill that see how much it takes to slide that up Dennis from stage not really put my roof roof all right now what this does I said I wasn't going to let this go but I can't standing I got this I got this Green Hill City Oh but what this right here does I have really got more hook up to this than I have with that following my styrofoam foe and I don't know if someone felt it bloated or if I've just started dragging a little better and get more confidence either what but it seems like this is working better and I think that I think that feels like a fish you swing a bite or something like that when they get there that day it don't bother with me right I don't think it feels completely natural tonight they're tasting that skip tail and they hit that right there and that's not nice not no big deal like an hour and when they eat a bait fish that swim bladder outside the exactly that's that's Heartland so so they know that's not the natural form to please how far say four inches from your hood I like it by four inches from the hood honey I started out playing with it running back and forth and Dylan's done it don't seem to buy the finish and all and so I think if I was running a phone corekai running about six or eight inches hope they didn't get it feeling right and feel something not right but with that blue and I don't prove the put it all the way down the room I think you're right about that did that feel spongy it feels like it may be part of a bait fish yeah yeah because I mean you know you pull the bladder I have a catfish made they go the cat pees until the hitch and they leave me I put a little blow you up oh yeah oh you got a buddy and that's just like a swim bladder on get me up now you're going to just drag this across the bottom yeah now your other rig had air in it or something down yeah but yep it then and like I said this right here's a whole lot more storage friendly and it drags real whale and you start getting a lot of temper and stuff like that you need to do then you're going to go to the lorry to make the rig this 30 inches long as half of spill there and you'll have a trap there you trapped there in there and what happens is that 13 degree it actually stands up about this high so any logs or anything that's in lower net you already got a heavy-hittin over here he's not a stand-up I had like a cobra mating yeah and hey if it does hang if you'll just give it a little bit of slack get turned up got a [ __ ] job and if you chuck it you don't know how the river and hit into something go straight up for a little bit you know some becoming a little we've got a lot hard over confident after the first up but not it blows my mind when I first started building the message mr. John Stevens I give him to Heathrow to go for two years course now he'd go back and get it unhung it'd be great anger he drove to them for two years not losing the awful impact well that's it some bad stuff I Bert parks pulling the rock into Cumberland know how you do exactly well that is awesome Larry I appreciate you showing us that Alexey we we always like to show new new things to our viewers this till I show you the way I do it but I like to also show other people there's other techniques out there things I do not quite not necessarily being right but it's the way I like to do it but I like to share everybody else's place to you like I say there's a lot of good fishermen out there and then they've got some good good ideas but like say this this one here read for catfishing don't come around it's hard to find a new rig for catfish what will behold Larry has come up with it and and I think it's awesome I came up to actually give one especially the 30 inch from art department it might be harder to store but I can see a real need for that yeah and I put it I put up some illustrations on there for you guys they want to try to make these things which now this right here this right here you'll be amazed what this dragsters also grows really drag this is good stuff but now the others are more a little more hangers now worried where you going to put your mainline at this latter anyway unless you go out there so it's going to be on this this now it's really not oh man it's only uh it's on the other part it's on the other part okay yeah well at least when this is this yeah I'll check out that right there he's not coming with ain't coming off you that pull that swivel completely free that other food is a rock I've never had one come loose now I pulled it up hold up Stokes because you all right well I promise you it's going to be the Larry nice rig but I do like the dragon tail I thought I believed that after you yeah yeah that's that what it sounds like a pretty decent good and decent analogy with it yeah I don't know I don't know what the whole thing mr. John goes into snake Grieg's very well whatever is counted daddy today that's a what you get him I got him on the spec tree well then he's called his personal best known that my little brothers caught his personal best on that and if my personal best footing already one hundred one day if I probably don't go my personal business right but it's hard to pick that but if I run into one I don't think you had a problem take right now you're using the look like diamonds yes sir yeah I'm on no doubt it's his pro stand yeah in mana I used in things when I had to buy them when they didn't even when they didn't partnership right and I had to bomb I would pre fish with something else but when tournament they come that's what he I use on that now do you guys cousin tell her anything you just leave like the owl on these dragon reads you'll see I use a strain to loop hangs up lives right in in that fish that baits coming out there now they hit these things with a vengeance don't need offset they hate it they shut their mouth they're trying to stop it and they turn with it you know I stopped at twenty four foot okay stop yeah and so yeah you don't have to offset them if you really I advised not to offset when I'm dragging because they good deal Larry I appreciate you sharing the rig with us what that bone does no it holds you bait oh right well when this comes over something you know this on promise enough it simple white water outlet planet sister it's Mike now guys he's got another swim with the chain swivel but he's got it about halfway through his leader and what happens when you're when you're in the current you know a lot of times that the bait twisting or you pulling it down it the base twisting and it's going to help you not twist your lines as much which is a really good idea really just a little bit on another rig if you'll notice there's different ones these things somebody's got more balls smoked okay this one's got one two three four five six miles there and mom I like these better I mean the more places towards being better all how are those goes when it gets smoked it's in kind of a bind and and it depends too on your piece of baked that you've got to if you put a head on there it's probably going to kind of slide through so if you've got a filet it's catching some water it may be spinning a little bit so yeah this is this right here if Bass Pro the hooks well you're like saying like what I do is suspend riff do you want to snail that hook so that it does cook like that if you see that it's good it's going to book because it it is laying the way it's lame its lamé like it's going to look but when he reversed it instead of having us come through the back of the hook to the front right we just reverse that and put it through the run I'm like you can see it and we had to move up here in the light guys I found out but see now now you don't have that hook on it it's not it's coming up back coming out of the backside so now you know like it says if you're dragging across the sandy bottom rocky bottom this let this hook is less likely to snag on anything because of the way and that's a smart idea and that's how you learn things you listen to old guys that have been fishing for years and they've had the child and know what works what doesn't work and I love listening to hope you guys don't know what you're doing yep I ended up I always like this all the special folks like humanity take a snare a generic Alby iron is hot on the cooker and and ended up getting shared gospel fantastic good guy around the other guy and about two Cumberland River been there like about 15 years I guess he's with Jim Moret yeah I start having good morning so if it's good listen to the older guys fellas Galvin you know guys and gal yeah one at 1:04 that taught me a lot to say morning the top bill King a lot is worthwhile Bruce is a good person the brave see stuff now Berks County kindly update okay you too much but now I'll fish with him in and I was figuring out something that's anybody's guess and and Bruce give me a lot of tips mom poison one thing was I was out there fishing with took all who didn't know where varieties it may be collectively I surrender look at sea monsters what they pull at all you know maybe like to get you some bigger hooks names exactly right you know it well gross never like Bruce he's uh he's comical always got a rugged attitude yeah and birds so first I'll top the good bit and if you listen to them you learn some conditioning is rather than there is evil where I'll say I give you guys like when they come visit from also gone or any kind of turn back in the hotels and you're talking to people you need to absorb what people are saying yeah yeah so no but you have to get it yeah yeah did
