[Music] come out weekly or monthly but when they do come out with new offerings they're pretty groundbreaking those new innovations don't get really updated too often makita is like the toyota of the tool world people rag on them because they take their time in r d and making sure that what they're going to offer is a quality offering and once they have that recipe they don't you know add like a pinch of salt and like a pinch of pepper and you know mess with it too much for a long time but you can be pretty certain that you're going to be getting a quality tool here's the deal makita just announced a brand new hammer drill offering it's their xph 14. i was pretty shocked to see them offering this new hammer drill on their 1836 platform because makita just announced a 40 volt platform as well not only is it 40 volts it's going to be 40 80 volts this 40 and 80 volt platform is going to be offering small and medium-sized equipment like large breakers rotary hammers maybe even tower lights cut off tools cutoff saws 14 inches they're going to have this one giant platform now here's the funny thing they also told us that this 1836 volt platform is not going away so we want to know leave it down below if you're going to move forward with makita would you be doing it on the 18 volt platform or the 40 volt platform i'm interested me and nick actually were having a conversation right before we started making this video what will people do now that this is available [Music] a lot of you have been asking for us to take a look at makita's 40 volt platform literally wasn't available here for a long time and this kit here is still on pre-order you can get it pre-ordered at some of the retailers that we do business with but this kit was sent over to us by makita for you to take a look at 40 volt platform is not made to replace the 18 volt platform this would be for a contractor that needs to outfit a job okay and they want to have one battery platform on that job with one type of batteries so instead of getting makita tools from the 18 volt platform for impact drivers and hammer drills and then having to buy battery operated cutoff saws or breakers things of that nature you have the option to get all of the tools on one platform this is the g d t 0 1 36 nominal 40 volt max it looks like an xd t16 to me okay it has four speeds like the xdt16 has a tightening mode has an auto mode this is the hammer drill offering this is the gp801 very similar in size in length but not identical it has a single selector ring for drill driver and then hammer drill right but there's no separate ring up top here to set your your clutch they it looks like they've electronically added it down below here here's our charger this is pretty cool looking air cooled charger these 40 volt batteries are listed at two and a half amp hours they change their battery these look at that it only came with one bar so they put the battery indicator on the front of the battery now pretty cool we got a little green flashing light it obviously will still play a tune let's see what happens here when we put our battery on so as this charger is charging this 40 volt battery just like the the 18 volt batteries it is passing air up through the charger into the port here on the back and air cooling these cells pretty cool okay so [Music] they've upgraded the voltage to 40 they have not upgraded the tunes i will tell you this much they definitely upgraded the fans though it's like a do you hear that like a secondary fan kicked in you got a 5 amp hour battery at 18 volts total number of watt hours on this battery is 90 watt hours if we look at the 40 volt battery at two and a half amps you're looking at a total of 90 watt hours so if you're saying to yourself like yeah it's two and a half amps but it looks the same size here's the deal the only difference between this and this it's not the number of cells contained within it's literally how they're wired up is what makes the difference the hammer drill is two speeds with makita built brushless motor which delivers in speed one up to 650 rpm speed to 2600 rpm in speed one you're getting 9750 blows per minute in speed 2 you're getting 39 000 blows per minute and it has 1250 inch pounds of torque max the impact driver features four speeds speed one gives you up to hundred rpm speed two twenty one hundred rpm speed three thirty two hundred rpm speed four this is the funny part which is an upgrade from the xdt16 they're claiming 3700 rpm impacts per minute speed one is eleven hundred speed two is twenty six hundred speed threes thirty six hundred speed four is forty four hundred they claim that the 40 volt max xgt lithium ion two and a half amp hour battery reaches full charge in 28 minutes or less and you get a three year limited warranty on tool battery and charger that looks pretty nice we got some pockets here on the on the front of bag no pockets on the inside at all so you're just going to set your tools in there your possible your charger your batteries sit inside here if you had adapters or drive bits drill bits things of that nature you'd put them here on the outside of the bag [Music] feels good in case you're wondering we got full charge feels pretty doggone good phillips number two wow i will tell you this much ah man i i when i first that's crazy when i first drove the the the lags on the ends i didn't feel like the impact driver seemed like it had had as much oomph as the xt 16 i will tell you though i feel like it's definitely faster with smaller fasteners wow very very powerful [Music] crazy i want to see what's up with the other modes so let's just put it down to speed one let's see what's up with that take it down to speed two three very powerful on three i feel like three might get almost everything done like ninety percent of the things you need to get done probably three would do it let's try it on four again amazing now let's put on auto mode let's see what the different auto modes gets us auto mode is engaged on speed one let's see what that does so you can see it ramped up to set that screw let's see what it does on reverse if it does anything at all okay seems like it it gave it exactly what it needed to get it loose let's go to auto mode number two so it seemed like it was faster as it met its resistance it just it just shut down let's engage reverse it just broke it free let's go to auto mode speed three see if that makes what type of difference this makes [Music] so it allowed us to continue to counter sync let's see in reverse what it does backs it out let's go to auto mode now once we come to four one lit up as well so four and one are lit up now so it shut us down it drove our fastener it shut us down a little proud okay if we go in reverse i feel like this is a bolt tightening and loosening feature let's go forward so we're still now in or it looks like auto tightening auto loosening in speed 2. let's see what that gets us [Music] shut us down countersunk let's put it in reverse it shut us down let's let's see what happens we give it another trigger pull let's go to three and four lit up three and four okay so it seems to continue to back us out but it slowed us down uh like i said i i believe this is like a bolt loosening or tightening mode let's see if we hit them together if anything happens nope so it's like four speeds but it's got like eight different modes at least one feature i found really interesting on this hammer drill driver if we put it in driver mode you'll see down here we become illuminated you'll see a button and you think to yourself well i guess the button is how i would set my driver modes but it's not it's literally a lock or unlock button once it's unlocked we rotate this little knob and you'll see that it's has 21 different clutch settings pretty cool once you've found the clutch setting that you need you then lock the tool or the settings and you're locked into place what's great about that is you don't have to worry about your clutch setting being accidentally knocked out of place you know but with any selector ring you do have to worry about moving from driver to drill to hammer mode it's inevitable but at least you're locked into place your driver settings lock into place wow that was that was in speed two that was doggone impressive [Music] [Music] wow yo it literally came out the bottom pretty impressive it's a one inch masonry or concrete bit generally holes of this size and masonry would probably reserve for a rotary hammer just being honest but we use this bit for extreme testing of these tools we have 5000 psi concrete fully hardened let's see how it does what's very impressive is the the vibration level it's very comfortable it doesn't seem to be the fastest cutting through concrete but it's not fatiguing as you know as well sometimes you'll run a rotary sometimes you'll run the hammer drill and a lot of vibration runs up your arms but uh this is pretty pretty ergonomic video's over but i know you want more so this is how you're going to get it first thing you need to do is pretend you're this guy and you're here at the birthplace of freedom now ring that bell like it's 1776 and let all notifications throw why you're not subscribed yet smash this button here after that watch this video here here and maybe over here see you later [Music]
