New Jersey Rep. Donald Payne dies at age 65

thank god for my mother we're having such great hace that was donald payne junior in two thousand twelve speaking at the funeral for his father congressman donald payne senior he would soon succeed in congress winning the seat for six consecutive terms donald payne senior was the first black congressman to represent the state of new jersey the payne family a political dynasty here in essex county a long legacy of public service in the tradition of the payne family both of them serve their communities they come in to save the world there were it said that come second we've got to save our own communities and work on an airboat the sun he began his political career as a freeholder in essex county before winning a seat on the new york city council and serving as council president before taking his signature bow ties and colorful fashion sent to washington where he champion the causes deers to his constituents in the garden state and beyond his legacy on the policy front whether it's getting led a drinking water for education a rep for great schools and and for our infrastructure and transportation jersey are great airports you know he left his mark pretty much all over jersey and and so it would you know it's going to get them pain payne had been fighting type one diabetes he was hospitalized after a heart attack earlier this month and never fully recovered a devoted husband and father of three he was beloved by both constituents and political colleagues as a tenacious fighter for the underserved butte environmental or social justice he was low key funny a different voice in the house where so many just fight to be heard you know my memory dawn is just looking out for other people looking out for people in the
