I'm Catherine Garcia I'm Monica Dean. Nice to have you with us. That suspect is 27 year old Cole Klemke of Carmel Valley, San Diego. Police arrested this man Sunday afternoon. They say he's the person who stabbed that 25 year old pregnant woman when she stopped at an ATM at a target shopping center. The woman survived, but only because she fought back and good Samaritans ran to help her. NBC 7's Allison Ash has been digging into the suspect's background. She joins us from Mira mesa with the troubling signs, Alison, that led up to this attempted murder charge. Yeah. Now, this is where the attack happened at the ATM. That's right there behind me. Police. San Diego police tell me that they have arrested Cole Klemke before now. I also learned through this court document that klemke his own mother, wanted protection from her son, who she says in this paperwork had major issues with drug addiction and mental health . These surveillance pictures taken Saturday, led to the arrest of 27 year old Cole Klemke Klemke played baseball at Torrey Pines High School and then the University of Nebraska in 2016. So what happened? According to this court document, drugs and mental health issues happened in the filing for a domestic violence restraining order. His mother claimed her son brought methamphetamine into their home. He became abusive and sometimes violent. She wrote that her son said if he had a gun, he would pull the trigger and blow my head off. Police later removed Klemke from the house. I figured it was either drugs or mental health, and which is, you know, just unfortunate. Lonnie Stasko said she wasn't surprised to hear about the random attack that happened near her home of 34 years because there's some questionable people I walk up at this park a lot, there's a lot of homeless. She and other people we spoke to say the attack served as a warning to always be aware of your surroundings. Recently, I have noticed, you know, a couple of people that might look a little suspicious, maybe coming on my own might not be the best idea these days. You have to watch your back at all times in San Diego now, which is something different than I would have said a couple of years ago. Klemke now faces a charge of attempted murder. He's due in court later this week. Again, the woman who was attacked is four months pregnant and very luckily for her and her unborn child, her injuries were not life threatening
