on today's episode leaks from a Tesla Insider show details of the project Highland model 3 refresh cyber trucks frunk and wiper spotted in action as the production date nears and Mexico confirms a brand new vehicle is on its way for the new gigafactory there Tesla's secretive model 3 design refresh codenamed project Highland got some more attention recently when a supposedly leaked image of one of the new vehicles was posted to the Tesla Motors Reddit page the post from April 12th showed a mostly uncovered Tesla vehicle which aside from its slightly weird front end definitely looks like a model 3. from what we can see of the alleged new design a lot of the lines have been smoothed out leading to a thinner bumper and more Model S style headlights and while the origin of this image isn't known Tesla scope a site that gathers and displays useful data for Tesla users stepped in to confirm that the photo was likely real on the same day the image was posted to Reddit Tesla scope posted to their Twitter that they believed the shot was genuine due to a conversation the company had back in February with a Tesla employee and another conversation with the company Insider at the time of the investor day of event on March 1st the February conversation references that the headlights would be changing more vet less Porsche reads the released text referring to the Sleek headlights on the most recent run of the Chevrolet Corvette sports car and probably not the boxy front end of Chevrolet's 1980s Economy Car the Chevette which is a look no one should be emulating and while this text lines up with what the leaked images show it's the second conversation from March 1st that's more interesting on April 14th Tesla scope was given permission to post this conversation likely in response to the leak it confirms that the changes to the front end are as they appear a smoothing of the bumper around the edges and Model S style headlights but the conversation also confirms that Tesla is mostly away from in-house seats which is a surprising move for a company that has been working to bring as much of the production Loop in-house as possible for years now at the investor Day event Elon even confirmed that there is a secret accessory creation team working on peripherals for the Cyber truck rather than getting an outside company to make them but for whatever reason it seems like Tesla is swapping out the seats in the model 3 to ones made by another company no word yet as to why if we'll ever get word but it's a possibility that the company has decided to focus production effort elsewhere we know from previous leaks that Tesla is moving towards simplifying the design of the model 3 with specific focus on the complexity of the interior which might point to changes like the seats and the removal of the wood trim in favor of cloth features but also rumored that changes were coming to features like the infotainment display in the dash and updates to the camera and sensor Suites conversations like the January 15th podcast interview with Tesla chief designer Franz von Holzhausen and his presentation at the March 1st invest yesterday event paint the picture of a company that is about to make a major overhaul of their older designs to make more efficient use of parts and new production methods and there are definitely other factors here too streamlining the process and shaving costs from the production side will definitely help keep any new model 3 under the price points needed to qualify for any new government incentive programs offered by America's new inflation reduction act Tesla has been laser focused on hitting those targets so it wouldn't be surprising to find out that project Highland and the model y refresh project Juniper were both planned to take advantage of the current political climate regardless of their reasons that leaked picture shows that the new model 3 is pretty far along in its beta process at least for the exterior it also solves the mystery of what was under the wraps of those model 3s we've been seeing in the wild these last couple of months with this summer cybertruck production action dates steadily approaching we are starting to catch glimpses of feature testing that we haven't seen before like images of the enormous front trunk or frunk and some videos of the truck's giant windshield wiper being put through its Paces on April 13th we were treated to sightings of exactly that as Twitter user Gregor truck posted an image of the cybertruck's front open during some testing and Brad Sloan on YouTube posted a drone flyover with an excellent view of the truck's windshield wiper being tested on a wind tunnel stand let's start with Gregor truck's frunk image we've seen photoshops before but Gregor truck isn't known for putting out fakes more to the point the size of the hatch in this picture lines up with information reported to attendees at the investor Day event on March 1st at the event the frunk was described as being slightly larger than the one on Ford's F-150 Lightning Electric pickup and that it would open in a similar way lifting the front grille and headlights and while it's hard to tell from this angle it's possible that the Cyber truck's front extends slightly underneath the dash and then of course we have this very clean video from Brad Sloan showing off the Cyber truck's large mono windshield wiper from overhead Brad's drone can see the truck on a testing stand placed at the business end of a wind tunnel these apparatus are usually used for testing aerodynamics and weather effects like we're seeing here with the wiper being exercised to see how well it clears off that expansive cyber truck windshield an employee stands off to the side and looks like they have a spray bottle for either applying moisture to the windshield or to apply wiper fluid for the mechanism to its credit though the wiper does appear to clear off just about all of the viewing area this shot of the wiper in use is a little strange not because Tesla shouldn't be testing this equipment but because it's been heavily implied by the company and CEO Elon Musk that this huge solo wiper blade would not be in the final production design however with Summer closing in maybe Tesla has decided that the mono wiper is the best option for now and are just gonna stick with it at least for the first production run these two instances of cyber truck testing show that Tesla is starting to finish several design tasks that were not as much of a priority as things like the drivetrain or Wheels which means they are likely very close to finalizing the beta prototype ahead of the first actual production tests and an increased focus on hiring for cyber truck related jobs is another indicator of this more than 70 jobs are being advertised covering roles like casting and stamping body and general assembly batteries drive units and yes even paint we don't know if this means cyber truck will have some painted parts or that the paint team will be developing different Coatings for the Cyber truck stainless steel panels but you don't fill jobs like these without work being a real possibility a new announcement from Mexico says that Tesla's new gigafactory there will be taking anywhere from 12 to 15 months from breaking ground to the start of production the good news though is that the increase time is so that Tesla can build a whole new production line for a whole new vehicle on April 15th Samuel Garcia Sepulveda the governor of Nuevo Leon where the new gigafactory is set to be built gave a brief interview with the Spanish News company Millennial in it the governor explained that originally Tesla had wanted to break the record they had set with Giga Shanghai which had been constructed in just nine months but the plans have shifted to include an entirely new production line for a new vehicle three new vehicles were announced in the master plan part 3 a 53 kilowatt hour compact a 100 kilowatt hour passenger van and a 300 kilowatt hour bus there's been no real confirmation as to what this new line is so it could be for any of those but given that Tesla plans for their to be determined compact vehicle to be a sizable chunk of their Global Fleet the compact EV seems most likely adding to that the company has already been making big changes to their other vehicles in order to get in on the American inflation reduction act and all the tax breaks and incentives that come from that legislation which is seeking to Aid the transition from Ice Vehicles over to electric ones with some of the largest infrastructure spending in decades a more affordable compact vehicle is something that Tesla has been rumored to be developing for years now with a Target price of around twenty five thousand dollars which would be a great fit for the predicted EV boom a big part of elon's Master Plan part 3 outlined a new vehicle platform with the implication that older Tesla vehicles would be updated to utilize the new production methods that would be developed for it during the investor Day event on March 1st the presenters went into greater detail discussing their plans for this new platform and capping the presentation off by announcing their new Factory location in Nuevo Leon Mexico it would certainly make a lot of sense to experiment with a new production method in a new Factory and this announcement seems to line up with that idea Governor Garcia Sepulveda reported that the construction process is now in the rendering phase which is when The Architects take their finished work and provide polished and final images and construction templates so it can't be long before they break ground don't forget to give this video a thumbs up today if you liked it that is so
