The main cast for the Netflix live action
Avatar series has been announced. And let me tell you something,
these kids are built different. These young actors will all bring their own unique flares
to our favorite characters. So I thought having a video
to introduce you guys to the full Netflix live action
cast was a great idea. And even if you've seen
some of these names or faces floating around the internet before, this video will still serve
as a fantastic refresher and offering more in-depth look
at each person's acting and physical abilities. Plus those who stick around until the end
will get a special sneak peek at what each actor looks like
in full costume and makeup. So are you excited? Because I'm excited. Let's get started. Huh, but what order should we do this in? Oh, I got it. We go in the same order as their character's
first spoken line in the show. This way, it will be
a tad more interesting for you at home. A bit of a chance to test
your Avatar trivia knowledge. So try to guess who's coming next. Maybe even keep score
and flex down in the comments below. Regardless, the first cast member
should be easy to guess because everyone knows the iconic
opening lines of "Avatar: The Last Airbender". So without further ado, let's start with Sokka. The intro does not count as part of the show. Come at me, I'm not scared. This is how you catch a fish. Sokka's being played by Ian Ousley, a 19 year old from Texas with Cherokee ancestry. Ian's current acting portfolio
mostly contains one-off side characters across a variety of shows. Here he is in something called "Physical",
which only aired a few months ago. Mom was there. It's confusing, but super real. You guys weren't swimming last night, were you? Ian's physical background
is much more well documented though, 'cause when he is not acting,
he seems to be very fond of learning new flips. The second voice we heard in the original
ATLA show was of course Katara's. And she's being portrayed by Kiawentiio,
a 15 year old ambitious actress from Akwesasne, a Mohawk Nation territory located between
Canada and New York State. Hi everyone. Um, Kiawentiio here. Zuko here. Kiawentiio recently had the leading role
in a movie called "Beans", which went on to receive
a bunch of film festival awards, including nominations for best actress. She was also in the latest season
of "Anne with an E". Fish, rabbits and eel. Our hunters are always busy. I can't either confirm nor deny
whether Kiawentiio has any ninja abilities. But she does sing, which I doubt will be in the show,
but is still pretty cool. Alright, so the next character
probably isn't who you're expecting because Zuko was actually
the third speaker in the show. Finally. Dallas Liu is the one who was given the honor
to play Netflix’ Prince Zuko. Dallas is a 20 year old Chinese
Indonesian American from Los Angeles and he is an absolute beast. That was Dallas as a child so there's no telling
just how awesome he is a decade later. So he's obviously going to kill it
in the Blue Spirit scenes, but he's also got enough acting range
to make Zuko's redemption arc believable. Dallas played a reoccurring character
in the "Pen15" series and he's also talented enough
to make it into the Marvel Cinematic universe with a role in "Shang Chi". He even sounds a bit like Dante Basco,
Zuko's original voice actor. Okay, okay. Thanks mom. I love you too. Okay, okay. Thank you for the dope painting. And speaking of Dante, the two Zuko actors
actually met up earlier this year with the old guard giving advice
to his younger counterpart. Needless to say, I'm especially psyched
to see Dallas's take on the banished Prince. It's an honor. It's an honor. Since Zuko was third, I hope some of you were able to guess
that Iroh would be fourth. Everyone's favorite uncle
will be played by Paul Sun-Hyung Lee. And guys, this is basically
a casting match made in heaven. Paul seems just so
incredibly thoughtful and sweet and that beard is just the icing on top. The actor was born in South Korea,
raised in Canada and has appeared in shows
like "The Mandalorian" along with his breakout role
in "Kim's Convenience". What's wrong with the store? -Nothing's wrong with the store, but...
-Then take over. How can she take over store when she have a baby? -You have a baby?
- What? No! You can't have the gang without the Aang so it's finally time to showcase
our main character. The young man tasked with playing
the hero of Netflix's live action series is Gordon Cormier. This 12 year old Filipino Canadian actor
is just oozing with Air Bender energy. Gordon Cormier, who's playing Aang. He is a revelation. Gordon seems to spend a lot
of his free time skateboarding, but he does have a few
smaller roles already under his belt, such as his appearance
in a show called "The Stand". He's gone. Who is? The dark man. Up next is Gran Gran, so going straight
from the youngest to the eldest, and Elder in fact, with a capital E,
'cause the matron of the Wolf Cove Village will be played by Casey Camp-Horinek
of the Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma. Casey is an environmental ambassador, activist and hereditary drumkeep for her tribe. She has starred in a handful of shows
and short films since the 1990's, but more recently she appeared
in the "Reservation Dogs" series. I'm not your grandson. Sure you are, even if you're not. Call me Gran Gran. This is where things start getting
more challenging in our little guessing game. I guarantee no one remembers
the seventh speaker of the original show, but it would be insane if you did because this little girl
does not even have a name. Magic trick. Do it again. But for real though. The next speaker who actually has a confirmed
Netflix counterpart is Captain Zhao. It's commander now. This villainous walking pair of sideburns
will be portrayed by Ken Leung, a Chinese American actor
who's been in a whole bunch of stuff. Most famously he was in "Lost",
but most recently he was in "Industry". Is, is this job not good enough for you? You seem to have forgotten
how lucky you are to be here. Or maybe you've been bred to sleepwalk
into this place, through your life. Do you know what time it is? It's time to wake the -monkey feathers- up. Wake up. Wake up! It only feels right to balance out
Zhao's hotheadedness with the chill vibes of an air bending master. Conveniently, Monk Gyatso is next in line. Lim Kay Siu will be taking up the mantle
of the soon-to-be skeleton spiritual leader. Lim is a well known comedic actor in Singapore, but he doesn't have too many films
that overlap with the Western media Zeitgeist. Command the seas? Call down a storm upon your enemies? This is a joke, right? He does, however,
run some absolutely adorable live streams where he and his wife make music together. Then you'll find you have time on your side. Your streaks have very likely just ended because Yukari is the next cast member. Now, you probably do not remember
that name from the original series. That's because this character
has never actually appeared, let alone spoken
in any of the Avatar-verse media. Yukari is a new character unique
to the Netflix series. She's Suki's mother, a former Kyoshi Warrior
and the mayor of Kyoshi Island. There was a Kyoshi Island mayor
in the original series, but he was just some guy and not Suki's mother. But since that mayor did have
the next spoken lines in the show. You three have some explaining to do. I figured that having Yukari in his place
is technically accurate. Anyway, Tamlyn Tomita will have free reign
to craft this character however she pleases. Tamlyn has collected a metric
of boatload of acting credits over the years, but her first gig was in 1986's "Karate Kid 2", where she plays the Japanese dancer
who captures the heart of Daniel LaRusso. She actually just returned
to that first role recently in the "Karate Kid" sequel series, Cobra Kai. Come on. I'm supposed to believe that a guy
never got a ring on that finger? Many times, but none of them fought to the death for me. Immediately following her mother is Suki,
played by 22 year old Mary Zhang. The Chinese American actress
will be a newcomer to the silver screen, but Mary has been in some innovative projects. Such as an interactive VR
short film called "Dear Mom" and a fun web series called "WorkInProgress". She started asking me these,
uh, weirdly personal questions. I don't know, I wasn't really into it. Emotional intimacy is in fact scary. Yeah, it's gross. I'd rather just not do it. Mary is also hard at work getting ready for the physicality
required of a Kyoshi warrior. Remember that a special look at Mary
and Kyoshi makeup is coming at the end of this video along with renders of the entire cast
and costume, so stick around. The Big Baddie Fire Daddy is up next. Ozai's live action counterpart,
Daniel Dae Kim, is peak DILF material. I mean, how's it possible
that they managed to find a man with a better jawline than a cartoon character? I am about to read your thirst tweets. Daniel Dae Kim can break my heart
and I'd thank him and ask him to do it all over again. Daniel Dae Kim's cheekbones
can choke me to death. I don't even know how that would work. Um, but thank you, um... Choke you to death. I, I shouldn't think too much about it. Forever wanting to sit on Daniel Dae Kim's face. Now we're talking. Now we're getting somewhere. He is one talented fine ass man. I'm telling you, I've never thought so much
about my backside in my life. Excuse me while I lick my TV screen. Anyway, the new Fire Lord is not only hot, he is also a great actor. He's been in a ton of shows over the years, including "Lost", "Star Trek", and "Hawaii Five-0". So help him put the money together. Gain his trust, and that way, even if he never copes
with the murder, we nail him on a drug charge. Daniel Dae Kim has also been
in the Avatar universe before, having voiced General Fong
in the original animated show. I don't see glowing. And Hiroshi Sato in "The Legend of Korra". And the most difficult part was watching my daughter trips around
with a fire bending street rat like you. Okay, there's only two cast members left. Can you guess who was next
between Avatar Kyoshi and Princess Azula? Just think about it for a second. Both made appearances
in Season One of the original show, but it wasn't until Season Two, episode One, that one of these
terrifying women first speaks. You know the one. That's right, Azula is up next. And Lizzie, you will be the one
making everyone's swept bullets throughout this live action adaptation. She's a 19 year old Korean American
coming from New York City and starring Azula will actually
be Lizzie's very first acting role. Interestingly, the same was true for Lizzie's
long-term boyfriend, Gaten Matarazzo, who turned out to be fantastic
in Stranger Things. So hopefully, Getan will pass along
the secrets of success to the new Fire Nation Princess. And that leaves us with number 13, Avatar Kyoshi. Fans will have the pleasure of seeing
Yvonne Chapman's take on the unrelenting Avatar. The 33 year old Filipino Canadian
actress stands at 5'8" tall, with just barely undercuts Kyoshi,
who was 6'6" at 230 years old. Still, Yvonne is a total badass,
known for her role in the "Kung Fu" CW series. Pei-Ling murdered our father. Shifu ran to that monastery
to hide from her crimes. To hide from justice. And with that, we have finally
reached the best part of the video. Now you get to see what these actors look like when transformed
into their respective characters. We'll start off with the main gang. Gordon has been extremely careful to always
wear a beanie to hide his shaved head, but I do wonder how they're going to approach
the air bending tattoos in live action. They could do the expected solid blue lines, or they could do something similar
to a certain unnameable movie where smaller markings
are grouped together to form the arrows. Also, I really hope they commit
to the hair loopies for Kiawentiio, the warrior's wolf tail for Ian and especially the full facial makeup
for Mary and the other Kyoshi warriors. Those are simply non-negotiable for me. Next we have the fire family in full glory. Fun fact, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee is actually
four years younger than Daniel Dae Kim, despite being cast as the older brother, but both actors absolutely
look the part so that hardly matters. A lot of people already think that
Paul Sun-Hyung Lee looks a lot like Uncle Iroh. So maybe you're not expecting him
or the other cast members to look that different. Well, you should change that expectation
because Paul recently revealed that he has to spend nearly two hours
every single day in the makeup chair applying cosmetics for this part. Amber eyes are a staple of the royal family, so I wonder if they'll make the actors
word colored contacts. Eye color is obviously not a deal breaker,
but it would be an appreciated touch, especially for the blue eyed
members of the water tribes. Similarly, I hope the scar they give Dallas
looks pretty gruesome in live action so they really sell just how cruel Ozai is. Over the years, I've seen
a bunch of makeup artists attempts to recreate Zuko’s scar in real life and they're usually on a range
from a cute little blemish to horrifyingly over-the-top facial meltdown. I don't know exactly where Zuko's scar
should fall on the spectrum, but if you have any thoughts,
let me know when the comments down below. And finally, the adults of the series
deserve some time in the spotlight too. All in all, I think
the cast announcements are pretty great. Everyone seems incredibly talented and super passionate
about this adaptation and the original show. But of course, casting is not everything. Your writing, pacing, visual effects,
and soundtrack all need to be top notch too. We now know that each episode of the show
will have a budget of 15 million dollars. That's the same as Game of Thrones and Star Wars. The crew is more than halfway done
with filming Season One. And since being an optimist
is more fun than being a pessimist, I for one, am excited to see
what Netflix has in store with their live action Avatar series. Captions by Nicosubs.
