[Music] so [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Laughter] so so so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] so so [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] [Music] so [Applause] [Music] uh me [Music] [Music] hey hello everyone and welcome once again to the virtual desktop experience as always or not always but as sometimes as most of the time i'm james webster aka hcmj proud member of the elite group of musicians known as dynamic shroud along with hey thank you thank you so kevin's done he's out of here oh yeah he's back oh hey it's you know it's fine though man it's on vapor oh wait sorry i think uh system audio is off thank god no one can hear that um it's on global for some reason but they can hear your name they oh i couldn't hear me yeah unfortunately tech's also in the band kevin's out there uh he's equipped that's our 23x aka vhs stills uh aka you talking about me still i'm trying to get to the uh the twitch channel so i can moderate somebody moderate whoa kevin what's up with your video i'm just switching webcams and hope that this one virus anyway so uh we're joining you after my predicted uh hiatus if you'll recall um i did go to alaska for two weeks which i predicted which tech calls years ago decade ago honestly um and right before right before i left i remember uh using that you guys are going to be like and james isn't here let's not do it whatever and that is exactly what happened so i'm uh you know what we got we got jeff for the first week [Music] yeah that was cool yeah i participated from uh the alaska railroads yeah that was a that was kind of a footnote sure i was kind of hoping that they would get uh elon musk's starlink and just be able to host from the glacier that's what i was hoping for but god uh mushy buddy you know uh from item label on twitter just like he has constant it's like constantly making uh beats about jeff bezos going to space like uh kind of this is so funny yeah kind of razzing all the people that uh are still talking about these like i heard jeff bezos went to space because there's money there lol stuff like that so nice pretty good you shouldn't let him back in lol um so funny james what the heck are we looking at here what what is going on you know so this one came together a little quickly um and i did a quick search for operating systems looking out for things that we could use i was like oh yeah i've heard of this and i've seen that stupid little devil emoji icon before we are in free bsd and uh specifically a build of bsd maybe actually i'm a fork of open bsd because there's free bsd which i'm pretty sure is like centralized there's open bsd which is a um an open source it's all unix space excuse me um not linux space so this is not linux this is not a version of linux it's its own stupid useless thing um apparently you know it's highly customizable like they all are and it's useful in some i guess research and science applications i don't think recently though i was i was just surfing the tube surfing the yts uh the youtubes uh trying to get some information about practical use uh cases of bsd and what i found was a playlist that was like 10 videos of this really boring guy explaining why he uses bsd over all other operating systems probably some kind of computer nerd or something so this guy he's a he's like a blogger right and his argument was that it was the fastest and most uh efficient way for his blogging workflow he operates all inside of a terminal right like a terminal window and bsd you can you know easily split the screen into two terminal windows but he had four separate terminal windows that were all pointing to his various servers where his wordpress blogs were what and then he uh was using a number of python scripts and commands pretending that this was all way easier than you know using uh a text editing program um you know just to center and make his text bigger and everything and then creating markdown files by uh creating markdown if we could just either see some feathers or maybe could sink out of the plane would be nice uh tit for tat you know you gotta come back [Applause] mark's first rule of improv is no but uh anyway so he was like yeah it's great because uh you know i i write my my blog post and markdown which is great you know i just use two that's my name for italics facing and this is all great for me um and then i have this other great python script that i you know access via command line um you know pathways that i'm typing in really quickly this guy sounds this guy just sounds like he's he's created a huge mess and he's he's figured out that this thing handles his dumb mess the best right yeah so he uh so he then takes his markdown files and then converts them to html which he then from his you know command line terminals is able to bypass the wordpress like um in browser interface uh to upload his posts directly to his blog so yeah so it makes it really great for content creation like dude you got four blogs for a like like one blog is too much all vlogs my four blogs in 2021 my four vlogs it's like uh like really this is so anyway i don't know i guess different people have different needs but i can't imagine anyone reading this uh yes d reminds me instantly of blue screen of death uh you know a bit unfortunate i thought it stood for uh bondage uh sadism and dominance bondage sadism and dynamics boys shroud dynamics [Music] well uh that's fun uh i like their uh i like the the idea they have at the bottom of the screen where the icons yeah so so we are in a a again we are in a build of bsd uh known as nomad um and its big claim to fame is that uh it will actually run off of a thumb drive you can run a live operating system from a thumb drive so like all of these you know stupid useless operating systems they're very scalable and they can run on all kinds of hardware um but they are all you know you can make up your own mind so i think they were influenced by the portability of the sega nomad which is the handheld genesis there is a uh strong possibility that that is true or not true um i'm gonna guess no though or maybe they're just you know they're digital nomads so they only like to carry around the samsung easy fit flash drives and they're uh yeah they're operating in croatia for people maybe the way that guy could set up his setup outside of his [ __ ] like workshop or whatever to like directly blog with his four blogs like reclining matrix gamer chair yeah i'm picturing like a [ __ ] lane setup with just ethernet tables like all across the room and multiple towers and monitors everywhere pools of viscous fluids randomly it's called nomad uh because of uh a selling point where when you use this operating system it's all it brings only joy you can't get mess no mad i love it um well you know it's just one of those things where it's it's like the obsession like okay i get it that it's not all just like customizing the way it looks uh we got bless you god bless um excuse me uh it's one of those things where um yes you can customize it with a lot of great python scripts and you can have fun mac os has a very uh similar robust automation and uh scripting environment uh but you can also do it with python scripts in these ridiculous operating systems which is great for people but i think at the end of the day it really is about customizing the ui and i think that a lot of people that use linux don't want to admit that some people are upfront about it like well no like i want i want my opera you know i want this to look insane you know i want to turn on my monitor and feel like i'm super smart and that i need to like keep track of like memory sectors that are being accessed because i can read hex and like i understand it it's like you just want to see cool flashing numbers and stuff i get it we all do we all want to be you know uh cipher you know redhead you know that's great um i feel like you're working at nerve hq right exactly which is it's i understand it but i just wish people would be more upfront about that you know i you know what i want i want an operating system a chess based operating system uh the way this would work is that your uh your applications so your your whole desktop is a chess board all right your applications each application in a in various square on the chessboard and uh in order to get to one of your applications you have to play chess against a computer uh blocking you from getting to say safari or firefox or whatever application you would like to use um so that you increase your chess skills while you attempt to use here sounds like a star trek episode exactly speaking metaphors yeah i mean chess based i'm you know i'm kind of into that um you know it's a 64 bit system so yeah i mean but you know something like this okay so you need to you need to launch i i can imagine a situation where maybe i can't no i really can't imagine very many situations would mean something like this as in like running an os live off of the thumb drive um an os with extremely limited capabilities and like zero software like you don't even get the linux software unless someone like makes a bsd version um like makes new binaries or whatever and of course they all run quake three we were talking about this before all these stupid operating systems mine would run quake three as well yeah it's like oh you can run gym wads man you run quake three it's tight aqua rail expansion packs um yeah i just i think there's a lot of like suppressed [Music] it's just like uh you know like i saw some there was some tweet uh or some some girl like some hot girl was like uh you ever just see like a really like incredibly beautiful like the most beautiful woman you've ever seen and she's always just with some guy you know and it had all these likes and then like a bunch of people and then like of course she replied like by the way this is not about books it's like no it literally is like you just said is like literally that um and i just you know these operating systems are really just about looks um but everyone's like no no no i mean i i need to cut i need the customization so my workflow when i'm writing python scripts or whatever it's like okay all right buddy it's the uh it's a winter of denial it is big time big time yeah so anyway kind of like if you kept asking them about their customizations and widgets eventually they would just like kind of break down and reveal that there's a an empty void in their soul that they can't fill right like and i apologize i went a little negative here it just uh i was feeling oh my god i'm a bit cynical uh as i was putting this together today and so tech i'm gonna we're gonna workshop your your operating system idea here oh my god now this would i think this could be improved by adding a fourth dimension to the chess board well that's uh the creators of uh star trek the next generation so here's here's the deal um i so i would be white in this operating system yes i think you are white and uh so am i so for example let's say i've set uh logic pro here one second i'm with you here i i understand your concept so let me set this up visually do you have a mouse in this or is it just chess for any input your input are your chest moves that's sophie you want to click on are you talking like a proprietary keyboard here though it requires you to speak to it right which is better than a proprietary keyboard um because yeah i mean it's more accessible in that way i agree so i would think right so logic is on e6 okay all right and so i need i need to get one of this is all hey this is all uh this is a prototype this is copywritten uh this is tech tech honors idea from miami florida so no one even think about trying to lift this all right this is a that is a verbal contract that we have so tech uh your first move undoubtedly will be um i'll need to eat i'll do e4 okay well this is gonna make it likely yeah so you'd set up for so i'll pull out all right okay i'll pull out uh uh g knight to uh f3 okay [Music] and then the computer responds oh yeah there's a great uh the macintosh is talking for the folks at home they can hear the computer calling the move so it is like we are in a hyper advanced operating system right now so then yeah so then i would do my f bishop i play the italian game uh f bishop two uh d4 or i'm sorry d uh c4 right so then i'm okay and this one would be easy i would just then now you open logic i simply open logic very oh but now logic crashes the point is folks obviously it would be tricky that is about as efficient as running these ridiculous operating systems this whole show what a joke all of it just all of it james uh here james went to uh the great white north where it was snowing because it was christmas time and he uh since he has returned uh to philadelphia the city of trash uh he's been very cynical um in his term so uh what can you tell us james about how you're feeling about returning oh well philadelphia is awful no one should ever come here consider living here it's all it all smells like garbage uh no exaggeration you know i went to the post office earlier today i walked outside my house i could smell you know like the dumpsters from this grocery store and then as i went down the street it was like trash day on the street so it's just like and it's been you know in the 90s right so alaska incredible uh in august amazing uh your highs you're looking at like 72 73 degrees with like bright sun that warms you um and feels everywhere and inviting and then at night it dips down to like 55 54 so it was like chilly at night you know um there's like two weeks of that um and then we we get off the plane in philly and just walk outside and it's like the next day it's it's gonna be 99 degrees it's like and it's like non-stop i i keep a three-year journal so i'm able to see exactly what i was doing one year ago um when i'm writing for today's date and there was a heat wave at this exact same time last year i'm like oh my god it's so hot it's in the 90s this never ends um and here we are it's still happening um and that's why i tweeted as soon as i got back it was like yo everyone needs to buy houses in alaska because like 40 years from now you're not gonna wanna [ __ ] live down here anymore i'm pretty sure um and it's only getting nicer up there so um but yeah i'm just i'm over philly i've been over for a long time uh it's awful and uh who knows when japan's gonna be open again so i you know like i wanted to move to japan that was the whole thing um but it's like i don't know when i'm gonna be able to do that and i'm not gonna wait around for that so i don't know i might move to like vermont or something you know just like a nice place where there's yeah that's like autumnal it's got the beautiful i would love to see this town in autumn uh and mostly inspired by willie nelson uh his rendition of moonlight in vermont one of my favorite tracks from uh stardust it's going to be on that playlist but i don't want to go i don't want to go on and on about alaska because oh my god it's amazing and it was obviously um it was super cool because we just kind of went on a whim didn't have a lot of plans i will say if you are if you want to go to alaska some things that i learned uh because i kind of shoot from the hit when i uh when i go on trips uh i planned a little bit in advance but even that that could have been a little more advanced would have made things a little bit easier uh things are things are expensive um you are in america and so there are no guest houses or anything like that we stayed and we think alaska is pretty expensive right yeah it sucks uh we stayed in one of the cheapest places in anchorage anchorage by the way it's [ __ ] [ __ ] a horrible place uh great trails and and you know stuff around it but the city itself was like real less garbage than philadelphia uh but overall it's just it's just like a shitty midwestern small city like and garbage yeah like there's one pocket where like the more expensive hotels are where they're like cute uh restaurants and stuff uh but the rest of the city is tonight just super [ __ ] depressing um so we stayed in like the one of the cheapest hotels in the city which was like 77 bucks a night you know and this place was just [ __ ] garbage ass like like i mean like the like it was like mildewy in our room and like the floors were sticking dude it's a 77.00 we weren't hanging out there you know we needed a place to put our [ __ ] and like sleep you know we were up early every day dude i when i when i first visited uh south florida to see if i wanted to live here i stayed at a hotel uh called like the boca inn or something in boca raton which is a like an expensive city uh and this the hotel first off they accepted cash which was wild but uh it was 50 a night uh and i was like whoa okay and uh the the air conditioner did not work like it ran but it just didn't generate any uh real air and so you know it's hot down here so it got pretty awful in the room um and then when like the day that i like woke up to leave i just had like all i had all these like bites all over my face it wasn't it was that bad jesus cried no it was it was very it was horrible um it was not bad i walked up at like like 50 a night like on our little japan tour got us like royalty you know that was like a nice spot it's extremely it was extremely [ __ ] i also but i luckily i did not realize the wealth on my face until a connecting flight uh when i stopped to use the restroom and i looked in the mirror and i was just like oh my god the the key card uh well the tv didn't work which was fine um the key card kept not working um and then i had to go get a new one on three separate occasions so the guy kept saying yeah keep it away from your phone i'm like dude it's nowhere near my phone like what are you talking about like that doesn't even make any sense like what the [ __ ] are you wanting that's like a magnet and then like and so yeah it was like a old magnet uh you had to do it like 20 times and so christina and i are like we're standing out there like trying to scan this card this [ __ ] gross dude he's like oh yeah yeah i stayed in that room for two months that card's a [ __ ] we're like oh don't talk to me because it's alaska man and it's like the alaskan bush people for uh fans of that show um i left a carton of milk behind the bed for you yeah it's uh yeah but it was fine because that was just like the beginning of the trip we had extravagance plans um and we were really just using anchorage as a launching point because there's one railroad that goes all the way down to sewers which is like the like on the southern curve and then it goes all the way up to fairbanks which is right about the middle of the state it's just basically a straight line um the tickets for the alaska railroad are very expensive uh the cheapest ones you can get are like 80 bucks a piece but they sell out like months and months in advance um we were able to get tickets to denali through like a travel agency and it was like like 200 plus dollars a person for like a i mean it's like a six hour train ride into the wilderness so it's like pretty sick but it's also like jesus christ um but yeah just you know things like that really add up but we found an amazing place uh at denali uh it's called denali hostel and cabins um and it's like a little mom-and-pop thing where they had all these little cabins sort of 15 miles outside of denali for those who don't know denali is the national park in the center of alaska and like alaska is so big it's very difficult to like comprehend until you see it and experience it it's like the grand canyon times like a trillion it's so [ __ ] huge like this national park is the size of the state of new hampshire and there's just like one road and then the rest of it is just like well the tallest mountain in north america uh mount denali uh formerly known as mount mckinley and still listed as mount mckinley um a number of places interesting thing about mckinley sorry i couldn't hear what you said not now uh mckinley never even went to alaska we went to the anchorage museum they're like yeah um all the white explorers came in and started renaming all this [ __ ] like mckinley never even went to alaska they just named this [ __ ] the tallest mound in north america after him uh but luckily obama said that straight but yeah it's big it's incredible the weather was perfect and we saw caribou and bald eagles everywhere moose on the railroad tracks after the train left um and just uh you could just i want to experience winter there um i want to experience the darkness while we were there the sunset was like 11pm to someone said and it's so [ __ ] weird because it's like stretched out like your shift dragging in photoshop like the sunset takes like it two hours to happen so it's like all those weird periods that like come and go really fast and you experience sunrise and sunset are like four to seven times longer so like twilight just hangs there for like an hour it's like this is [ __ ] insane awesome does it rise uh like 4 30 or 5 when we were there so yeah we were on the other side of the solstice uh so the days were like getting shorter but i was outside at midnight one night and there was still that just slight rust you know of like the afterglow of the sun and i thought that would be super annoying because i'm like on the video games darkness um [Music] but it was actually like incredible because your days just like you just keep going and you just keep doing [ __ ] like the sun's up but it's just fine you know that's the schedule for me i think there's some some uh vegetation there that gets really really like no like plants that we have here but like they get way bigger up there because of the amount uh of sun and moisture that is there yeah there's a lot of weird plant stuff because uh really old pine trees for example the when they grow and like the um and the tundra they get stunted because it all like their whole root system freezes every year and then thaws and then gets extra sunlight so you get all these weird trees that are like really like tall and skinny but are like super old it's just [ __ ] up man but they got rain forest there they got like a big rain forest on the southern part they got the arctic um i learned that polar bears i don't know if anyone's aware of this you know polar bears actively hunt humans at polar bears so like grizzly bears is like if you come across a like a fresh kill or like if they think your prey you know they're like situations where like grizzly bears can be really dangerous blah blah blah but no like polar bears they're like you're you're you are a human and i want to eat you you are like part of my diet um we went to the native heritage center which had all of these like different styles of homes that alaska natives uh would build depending on which climate they lived in and for the arctic ones they basically built hobbit holes um like into the earth that you had to walk through like a tunnel to get down and then the door would be this like tiny hole that you had to crawl through specifically to like stop polar bears from eating them at night because the polar bears continue to come once they figured out they were humans there they would come back night after night and they had these stuffed polar bears like in the airport they're like [ __ ] nine feet tall man like i'm sorry like humans we're on the top of the food chain because we have nuclear weapons i get it right but if you're out there and you don't have a nuke like i'm sorry buddy polar bear wins every time yeah well i guess yeah we fought back by um global warming he's like we're fine but yeah global warming is happening at a super accelerated rate up there too it affects them like 10 faster than the rest of the planet so like vegetation is going higher up mountains than ever before and um uh like they they've moved the start of the iditarod like three different times because like it used to start anchorage but now there's not enough snow there and so then they had to move it north but now there's not enough snow there they had to move it like north again um so yeah it's uh i saw the spencer glacier would you see the depression of the polar affairs right exactly but the uh sorry i saw the the spencer glacier which was really cool because it's like this massive glacier that's like between two mountains and spills out into this lake and they're all these little ice floats and it's like oh my god i can't believe i'm seeing this but they have a picture of like the guy who found it in like you know 1903 or whatever and the glacier is like you know like 50 [ __ ] times bigger it's uh kind of depressing but um hey what are you gonna do what are you gonna do anyway that's enough about alaska i didn't want to make this whole thing about alaska it's it's an incredible place dude look in early september i have to go on a a short vacation uh to perrysburg ohio and i will talk all about it your experience might be similar to like uh your typical anchorage um you know at least part anguish we were saying could very well be uh i looked up harrysburg out of curiosity to know more about it population 20 000. why do you have to go there my cousin's wedding uh how do you spell it tech uh p-e-r-r-y-s-b-u-r-g mandatory vacation uh yeah yeah check out paris oh it's like a small town in ohio the beautiful ohio sky yeah that's that's ohio right there for those who have not been [Music] that could be [ __ ] anywhere it really could be yeah but it's you know it's it's an old downtown you know which is very much the motif for western ohio that's probably all of it though right yeah something on the other side it's just a field perrysburg ohio pro wrestling star spangled banner boy that looks a lot of fun do you think they weren't for obama no uh i think it's outside of toledo obama when obama won ohio didn't it wasn't like he won 82 or he lost he won six counties out of 88 or something in ohio wow look at that uh we got a sport clips there a verizon style oh my god i can't pure sleep mattress is there where's the chipotle though that's what i need to find where's the game stop ah look at these beautiful meadows it's like the bridges of madison county the meadows of perrysburg yeah anyway um one choice show yourself there i'm there yeah it's up there near toledo there's like a map quest uh pole here looks great nice is is mapquest still running yeah what happened to macquarie we got to find out did we talk on here about onstar no that was you and me were talking about that in person when i was in florida okay not remembering yeah and just well like i think it doesn't it still does onstar still exist it's got it i think it does for the emergency services yeah does it still exist for like cars that had like onstar like in 2004 you know what i mean like i think alexis that was fresh from the dealership in 2004 you get to pay extra though don't you get that feature probably probably probably yeah that looks like rockford right there rockville it i went to peru illinois once and it looked exactly like where i'm from so the idea it's all the same yeah the thing about onstar i think the idea is that well excuse me got coffee burps if you're getting a crash if your car crashes and you can't get to your phone it's like your car your car knows that it is crashed and then yeah and then your car starts talking like this is onstar we've detected a collision is everything okay um wow but i mean this stuff you could just do with the air tag you know well dan mason's saying some phones can detect a crash now or something it's true it's true it's just like remember the uh when we went over on this show the um the new apple feature that teaches you how to sit down in a chair a video like when sitting in a chair to reduce your fall hazard do it this way like wow thank you speaking of apple air tags james i finally got my uh air tag in in the mail oh nice it got it ironically got lost it got lost mark sent me the coolest video of some [ __ ] on youtube you sent a bunch of air tags and then tracked them uh like he sent one to north korea and he sent one says like uh to tim cook's office and he sent one to elon musk somewhere else the north korea one ended up making it all the way to um china but then shipments were not going into north korea because of kobit uh but it was funny it was south korea actually yeah right well first it went to south korea then it went to china and then they were going to send it to north korea but it was cool because he was tracking this dhl package and comparing like the results of his air tag to like their information and eventually they they're like we lost the package it's like i'm i'm looking right now it's there in the airport like i can see it and they kept like oh it's been delivered in the destination country and it's like no it's still sitting there like it hasn't oh my god kind of crazy it blows the lid off of that yeah that whole thing uh holy [ __ ] the one that he sends to spacex he watches it like get thrown away and then like load it onto a dump truck and like take into an incinerator which is pretty cool um but apple they were a little bit cheaper that would be like you know your own personal shipping tracking insurance i know right i mean they're like 25 bucks how much are they like 20 25 bucks i think i think the four pack is 100 bucks so like 25 bucks did you put one on the side of a hair dryer [Music] that's the real question uh sure you lose your hair dryer do you lose it a lot or well i don't i don't have a hair dryer but uh my girlfriend is a hair stylist and she eat like it's like they have their own hair dryers but like they just use whichever ones available because it's so busy and then sometimes people take other people's hair dryers and you're out like two hundred dollars because your hair dryer's gone you can't took you could attach you can attach it to anything you can duct tape you know oh is that how they attach well yeah they're just they're little they're little like here i got one right in front of me right here you have to buy your own proprietary adhesive [Music] okay this is they have a bunch of different cases that have key chains or strings or whatever you want but you don't have to use any of those because the air tag itself is like a it's just it's like a spog slammer yeah i'm gonna put one on my cat dijon so this is second so this is it's kind of like a uh uh nilla wafer tech yeah but a little bit smaller and then it's metal on one side with an apple logo and then you can put an emoji on the other side i did a mouse because i was born in the year of the wrath that explains so much and like the xbox series x controllers it's got user replaceable batteries [Music] yes but it does not take uh double a's awesome so yes you can replace the battery um but yeah so like i have one duct tape under the seat of my bike with black duct tape so you really have to be looking for it to like find it that's a great idea for sure they're only going to get uh smaller over time i'd imagine so yeah i would put one on my brain so that i don't lose my mind it's like a aussie lyric i've got an antenna on my brain so i don't lose my mind oh my god [Music] there was a beautiful moment where um when we were in anchorage we were went on this crazy bike ride um i thought that this trail like looped back but then we ended up having to go through the city it ended up being like 20 some miles i felt like mark like is this what it's like this sucks um we're like going up this hill and uh christina's kind of lost it at that point she's just like kind of walking her bike and i'm like all right let's slow down this pace here and then i just hear uh it was mama i'm coming home coming around the corner and the uh there was a kind of an eight up couple never just blasting mama i'm coming home on this bluetooth speaker and i'm like hey how's it going they're just like and they didn't acknowledge me and they just kept walking i was like well [Laughter] but i can't imagine living in any cuz i would hate everyone too yeah what are they doing up there get down here well you know that was i kind of made the joke like uh we were at the you know the uh the native uh history museum learning about all these structures like fighting all polar bears and [ __ ] and like man didn't any of them ever think like damn i wonder if there's any place like isn't the [ __ ] arctic um but then i got home and i was like oh i can leave philadelphia like it's like i haven't even uh realized that here i am you know globe trotting and it's like yeah i don't have to stay here if it sucks ass like get the [ __ ] out uh you know who else getting the [ __ ] out um is uh our friends and rail and molo mobile 360. i saw that on twitter wish them well very excited and proud of them i think they left today uh they are both moving to los angeles together they met through vaporwave so that's beautiful um but yeah um uh nathan's lit currently lives up in washington and uh molo lives down here and uh yeah uh so i visited with with them before they left and now they're off on a journey they're one of the greatest vaporwave love stories i think truly it looks like oh my god [Music] sorry i'm reading comments that are of people that i recognize sorry who's that [ __ ] talking jesus no i just realized how much i have been talking so i thought alright i'm just gonna stop talking for a second see what happens sure enough train wreck i got my girlfriend is in the chat right now and somebody else they're like oh really yeah wait is she in the room with you is she in your apartment no no no no oh where is she at work uh yeah she and like work people went out after work so i'm saying hi well i have i have some i have some news if you want other people to talk for a while what's your remark it's it's not really news but i i watched the evangelion 3.0 plus 1.0 thrice upon a time movie last night he's really spoilers i i wouldn't know how to spoil it honestly i i wouldn't know what to say because i only understood about 17 minutes of it the beginning which is really beautiful but uh then it's down to your typical fare i don't know if you guys have seen any of the new movies i haven't seen any of the rebuilds i was waiting specifically until they were done so i could just watch them all in order and not have to re-watch anything yeah i'm not trying to just lean into being like i don't get it it's too wacky like i do think the original series and the end of evangelion movie it's cool and it's it's definitely like a lot of metaphor and weird biblical imagery and [ __ ] like that but it's like entertaining to watch this for me was just really confusing and very beautiful amazing animation but all these movies i've seen all four now and i just i don't know well the majority yeah the majority of the plot is stuff that is not actually in it you gotta read the wiki after um yeah it's like the actual story of evangelion are like the uh like um adam and lilith are these like proto beings like it it the story starts like 500 million years ago or some [ __ ] where these like proto beings were sent off by some ancient civilization to like um like populate planets with their offspring kind of like the movie prometheus um but there's like a there's a like a spaceship crash that causes adam to like crash into lilith's planet but only one of these beings can exist on a planet at any given time that's why they have their lance of longinuses that's used to like eject one if ever there's a chance that two of them uh crash or something but yeah but there's like a whole long series of events that um results in second impact um in which adam reverts to like um like a primordial like embryonic form that apparently gendo like has surgically implanted into his hands because it's his plan to like bring third impact by like merging lilith and adam together but he's ultimately rejected and it's a whole thing but yeah it's one of those things like 500 million years ago i mean it was an alien race yeah i remember repeating all that [ __ ] in the wiki like when i first finished the series a couple of years ago because i in 2017 my first japan trip i was amazed by like how much like contemporary media was still like doing evangelion crossovers and i was like how is this like not early 90s anime still so popular that was when i realized that like okay when i go home from this trip i have to watch the whole series all the way through so yeah that that year in 2017 mark was when they were doing the coco ichibanya crossover i remember just like like looking at the picture of all of the characters like eating curry like plastered in the sun they made fish fishing rods and uh socks and backpacks everything that you could like power the fishing that's your power there's actually like a power to us there's a lot of tweets about that you can get a drill like the full like coveralls like uh uh tool belt everything like that it's like sanrio hello kitty like they're just [ __ ] with the license they'll do whatever with that it doesn't matter if you're a toilet company or you know oh i haven't seen toilets they probably exist but unit one toilet that would be incredible honestly shinji get on the can well speaking of um speaking of uh convoluted plots um me and christina also just uh finished lost it was my third time through her first time and that two hour finale i'm just in tears the whole time it's just like every 10 minutes there's something that just like they kiss the knife you know what i you're making me want to watch lost i've never seen lost in my life you're just [ __ ] awesome like it's sick like you're really i'm gonna see how long it's gonna take to do the whole thing right now i'm on i'm on binge clock and these are this last time five days one hour that's not that bad every single episode ends with a oh my god i gotta watch the next one that kind of show um and there's maybe a you know some there's definitely some filler in there the first few seasons though are actually kind of short like i think they're only 14 episodes or something so it's actually pretty easy to get through um i i can't really talk about it without you know talking about it but loss is a beautiful show and the ending is it has to be one of the most misunderstood endings of all time because at its core what that show is saying it's very akin to evangelion you know about you know the walls that we build around us um and how we're all just desperately just lonely lonely people like desperately um you know that love is this this glowing primordial force at the center of existence that that just pure empathy and love um keeps the darkness at bay which isn't a message that everyone agrees with and no one i don't think everyone has to agree with that but it certainly is a message that resonates with me um at a very fundamental level um so straight up talked about this the last time that you were on the show really well but now i've i've experienced watching the show yeah it's all fresh in my brain um it just kind of sucks though because like being a part of the zeitgeist right at the end has been like lost was still an active part of pop culture that was pretty fun um now it's it's it's definitely dated everyone wears baggy pants that are low-cut and it's like oh why everyone's like pants like cut down to their [ __ ] pubes like what's going on here uh it was a different time like it's ready to be back back in style any second now it's weird they like go fun there's like a scene that they're showing events that happens in like the 1940s and so everyone is wearing like high-waisted pants and it's supposed to look like the past but it's like no they look like way more modern than all these like weirdos with their like you know old navy and gap that show is very the gap it's like everyone's tech vests everyone went to the gap and then got dressed up and then went to the islands so there you go well well speaking of stories that don't make any sense uh mark has probably been driven to the point of insanity with me trying to explain the final fantasy 13 2. oh here we go narrative slowly over the course of uh months uh months now yeah so i i beat 13 i beat 13 2 and now i'm on lightning returns and how is it uh lightning returns if you ignore just the bat [ __ ] crazy story is awesome of the rpg yes so it's basically it's uh final fantasy vii remake like proto final fantasy vii remake everything is there like it's it's a giant kind of an open world with like big town hubs uh there are just thousands of quest givers that have just the most dumbest most innate side quests ever um the battle system is is action like combo based uh so basically you get three you get three schemas which are like your job classes uh each one you can set up with uh it's like final fantasy 10 2 with the address sphere system so each one you can set up with a different you know often uh often very seductive outfit for lightning and then you can kind of customize what spells and equipment are on each of those so it's kind of like uh you know the final fantasy vii remake uh upgrade tree where it's like one weapon it's obviously geared towards melee combat magic and such but you you actively switch these schemas while you're playing and each of them has an atv bar and each of the actions consumes a chunk of that atv bar so you can like have one that's based on just like really short weak attacks that don't take up a whole lot of atvs so while you're using that your other ones are charging so you kind of interrupt enemy attacks and then switch to heavier attacks and um yeah i sent uh james a picture of lightning as a red mage which looks sick oh awesome god that's what i'm talking about right there so sick uh but it's easily the best gameplay wise like video game feeling video game of the 13 series uh the story is just absolutely bonkers ridiculous uh 13-2 they jumped the shark within the first like five minutes like this is like you know lightning it's on a motorcycle and does a backflip off the shark you know like in the first cutscene gotcha it's just absolutely insane what is it with motorcycles and like warping people's brains to create video games and shows it's like now i've said all the i've said on this show before you know that's when you know an mmo has when they add a [ __ ] motorcycle i i still i think back to like when they when they added it to world of warcraft they added the [ __ ] like known motorcycle and it was just like who the [ __ ] wants this what [ __ ] playing this game is like oh hell yeah man i want a [ __ ] orc on a [ __ ] motorcycle ripping across the barons man that's what i [ __ ] want like what it's a [ __ ] car like this is a fantasy game why is there a [ __ ] car in it i'm sorry how do they jump you can't jump on a motorcycle that's my problem with it it's like you can you can have you seen um i think you might yeah but you could go off of a jump but you can't jump on a motorcycle i'm sorry it's just not possible yeah yes you i guess you have yeah i don't think you could do that you wouldn't want to yeah 13 2 seemed like a like the it's like the disney star wars movies to the original trilogy like they clearly uh for better for worse listened to fans about the criticism for 13 and they fixed everything like the battle system um you can actually program what your ai characters do uh listen never listen to the fans that's everyone's suggestion if your main character dies it switches to the other character uh there's monster training elements like pokemon you can like capture monsters and reuse them in battle which is yeah um and all of the maps are like you know and 13 they're all they're all corridors right and it's all it's all straight lines right oh they actually the map design is like intentionally just gigantic and convoluted on purpose it's like it's like oh this is what you wanted yeah this is what you wanted we're just going to make it so stupid um and there's there's towns which everybody griped about 13 that there was no towns and that you buy items at save points and that is i liked 13 for what it was um it goes on a little bit long and it is definitely like tutorial loaded uh like the first 30 hours or so are tutorials and they don't really give you the chance to like get into the battle system and customize your characters until like chapter 11 out of like 13 chapters which is kind of insane yeah 13-2 is like they they introduce time travel which is just right away like oh the timelines the timelines are disturbed and like you know you start getting into like marvel cinematic universe territory and it's like okay like this is you've already kind of like lost you've lost the what the narrative of 13 was kind of supposed to be about but lightning returns that's fun the combat's really fun in 13 too and it's it's like it's way easier and more forgiving than 13 where you can like get your ass whooped by like normal encounters uh but then yeah like lightning returns is like they were just like all right [ __ ] all that we're gonna make a new game with the characters from 13 just so you have something to cling on to but it's it's totally like the the prototype for the final fantasy 7 remake style of gameplay and i would argue that you can totally just play that game without having experienced 13 or 13 2. it has like so little semblance to wow originals i mean it's like a it's like the the ridiculousness of a crossover episode with like the ninja turtles and the power rangers you know oh my god you absolutely don't need to know anything about i did watch the installments like the intro cut scene that you sent me and it was really cool so oh yeah square enix knows how to make a cutscene for sure and one of the music is just playing well these days i'm going to beat that whole trilogy uh you can get them on uh steam so if you figure out how to do all that crap for final fantasy 11 you can get your imac to run the 13 trilogy that's a good way to play it yeah yeah well i mean i would hope that maybe one day they'll [ __ ] figure out how to port it to um the store that you can just [ __ ] download it from there and place it it's unlikely because i think microsoft paid for the like the 4k assets to be added to the game for uh series x gosh i mean i don't even i don't need it to be in best quality i just needed to be the game but yeah i just i think they have some sort of like licensing deal with the 13 trilogy as a whole interesting because they like put money into it or whatever but it's probably just like a timed thing yeah i don't know i mean i think it would be cool if they did a ps4 or a ps5 like all-in-one kind of collection that had all that it needs to have an easy mode like that no battles max stats then i'll play all three games no game play at all 13 2 is basically like that you can just turn your brain off and like match the auto battle and it's totally like easy from start to finish the final boss was like the only somewhat challenging fight in that game that's the game for me 13 is crazy hard like they want you to like yeah really like maximize your strategic approach to every single battle which mark couldn't you just do like watch like a playthrough or something i did watch a like 15 hour youtube playthrough of final fantasy 13 like five or six years ago and i i loved it i loved just soaking in the story and like a skewed aspect ratio low res youtube video for hours on end it was [ __ ] awesome yeah and as i'm not even joking it was great to watch as dan mason was just pointing out you yes you can still buy final fantasy seven eight and nine [Music] it was on sale for like 2.99 i did the same thing i loaded up on all of them they're not um black discs though that is the creepiest thing yeah what color disc it's just like it's like silvery translucent see i have it right here i bought it and it's like yeah it's like oh that was fast shipping like i just purchased it right out of yeah it flies through your window yeah it's like it's kind of like upsetting because it's like they clearly just like have a machine that like burns it when you order it or something like that i don't know what's going on there where the suckers still you know they're they're filling the trough yeah that's me man yeah i love it so i thought they're still available i've got a weird uh issue of final fantasy chronicles that's a it's a black label with the square enix logo on it it was like right after the merger and they still had it on the website and i bought it and then it came and it was like it's like this weird in-between pressing before the greatest hits came out wow do you see that a piece of princess diana's uh wedding cake sold for like 2 500 jesus [ __ ] christ well i was just gonna say hey thank here we are a mere uh 58 dollars and 20 cents away from uh getting our goal of 200 which is gonna pay for our journey to vanity l once this bar fills up ladies and gentlemen uh we are going to be in a whole new land much more um appealing and aesthetically satisfying and uh soul nourishing than being stuck inside of nomad bsd operating system you can launch from a thumb drive this is to say that we we will be playing final fantasy xi uh and trying to experience the the story of final fantasy 11 as a as a group as a team as a unit easy mode god you can still buy this oh there's only four left [Music] only four i wanted this so bad when i when i was a kid when i was like 25 but oh my god look you push a button and it tells you when the airship is going to arrive in one of those four nations based on the button that you press it tells you holy [ __ ] every day of the week has a different um just here's just a slight window just the tiniest glimpse at how hardcore final fantasy 11 is so every day of the week has a different element associated associated with it right like wednesday right uh so the wind element is stronger that day meaning that just like just like our winds just like our would say exactly uh meaning that um all spells and all weapon skills are also associated with a different element so for example uh paralyzed the spell paralyzed is associated with the elements of ice so your paralyzed spells have a better chance of landing on ice day then they and they have the lowest chance of landing on fire's day each in-game day takes one hour of real life to pass so it's like if you were fighting uh like shiva for example you'd be like well i can't i don't want to start the fight until like another five hours passes so it can be fire's day otherwise like she's gonna be like don't fight on ice dave um we won't have to worry about that kind of stuff it's much easier now so are we gonna are we gonna exclusively play in the stream yeah yeah we're gonna static oh dan donated five bucks thanks buddy thank you so much james uh dan mason we love you and we support you and uh pretty much my my best friend pretty much my best friend okay hey hori makes that clock really yeah you're already on ebay look you're looking at price change no it says it right there your eyes but i guess they don't have eyes in canada the c-a-n-u-d jesus i can't can't see from the thick hail and snow in front of my eyes at all times it's uh i also realized how much so like the natives uh the native populations of the pacific northwest are all very related to all the [ __ ] that was coming from alaska check this out so you know the bearing straight everyone knows that a long time ago there was a land bridge that connected it that now lost stretch of land um is a beringia like the like bearing shia isn't that [ __ ] sick the ocean the ocean was 350 feet lower and it was like grass like marshy grasslands as far as the eye can see when humans first passed from [ __ ] siberia into the north american continent whoa and then they just bought by consumer electronics brand behringer and uh wow don't use it if you don't get made fun of it hey riley thank you so much you're helping everyone every dollar is another step the best looking guy here the lead number it's about one then nina 64 asks if final fantasy 11 has guilds which they have link shells uh you should make one for fans of neogaya uh so look yes we are going to create a link shell for this experience uh cool thing about eleven you can have as many link shelves as you like dan mason coming back i actually wanna see how many of you played oh i haven't but i haven't heard kevin has i played uh i'm about four hours into automata and there was a a game fly sale and i got uh i got near replicant for about 25 bucks recently i just couldn't resist it every time i hear a game fly i think of a [ __ ] zipper like dude your game flies down like ah i'm just abused to the game fly like free or discount subscriptions like i've been able to play every ps5 game that's come out via gamefly's eight dollar a month uh promo and then when you cancel they're like please please give us another chance well we'll give you anything we'll give you a free month and you're like okay whatever you want it's so funny like the exit survey just like reeks of desperation i mean there's got to be what like five other people like paying for this service still it seems crazy i just really want to collect every single final fantasy trading card the game the game is actually fun to play they solved they solved the problem of getting land land mana screwed or whatever you want to call it magic no other like people to play with no of course i don't know anybody else i want to know why why are there no irl triple triad it's in like five minutes i wanted that since i played final fantasy viii it's it's approached strangers and it's every stranger they have a triple triad like ios game but it has all sorts of paid to like pay-to-play [ __ ] no our revolt it's all of our faults we let it happen how is that our fault enable dlc and all that [ __ ] we just laid back and let it happen you know oh get this life savings that's like the first game the first final fantasy game to have dlc thank you so much for the 888 from rain rain to cakes disable that [Music] um so yeah 13 2 is like the first final fantasy to really have dlc it was like like prime era for it you know xbox 360 ps3 and uh falcon 4 y'all clickbaited me with the tesla film that's right here guess where i'm watching in a tesla new tesla of the game they dlc the true ending of final fantasy 13 like the original game 13-2 like you have to like buy lightning the lightning chapter and like it's like an ancient character wow yeah so i just watched all the i just watched all the alternate endings on youtube like i just beat the game as is and i was like i'm not gonna put another dime into this game i did yeah i cheated um i b is asking for me to get onto final fantasy 14 again i have my character but i haven't played in a long time uh i don't know mmos are not for me they should just do 14 after 11. making me play you know the mmo thing it's like it's like any game really uh you really have to like ignore like the part of yourself that understands that you're wasting your life or whatever you know it's like you have to give yourself to the systems of the game um no i'll tell you this is derailing but like uh i realized okay so having doing dds and stuff full-time now uh it obviously you have more time to do what you want at home um but um it's been like it's been weird because previously like dds and making music was always a hobby while i went to well you know a hobby it used to be fun so i used to go to work every day and then you do music in your spare time and do music full time then your hobby becomes your your job which i love but i no longer have like a hobby um and it's been weird because i've like i started thinking about that and how i've sort of filled that gap maybe with like social media because i don't play a lot of video games um but um uh so what what has happened or whatever is that i get into things for a short period of time and uh end up like going through it like i'll have like some sort of project that i make and then i just like finish it within like two weeks and then i'm done and i'm like okay now i need something else to be interested in or whatever but um i guess after like during covid i think chess online like online chess uh kind of blew up in popularity and i started seeing stuff appear in my algorithm on youtube and so i just started like watching watching like chess videos and things like that and now i'm just like i realized that it is it's an endless hobby it's something that i can actually like uh get good at and i actually feel like some sense of satisfaction from being good at it uh that i don't feel from video games usually uh and um it's been yeah it's been it's been super awesome i uh every morning i wake up and i make breakfast and i spend my morning hours uh learning how to get better at chess and practicing drills and learning about openings techniques and um that kind of thing and it's been really really awesome and maybe one day when i'm in my 60s maybe one day i'll be a chess master that would be pretty cool that's cool but yeah it's it's for me it's like even all the mmos that i've played in my life which there have been many many mmos have come and gone come and gone from my bones if you will um [Music] the the draw hey somebody bought this shirt hell yeah buy this one yeah for me i didn't know that we still had those up nice for me the the thing that was always so exciting in an mmo rpg was the idea that this was a persistent game world that was super huge that like i could explore and you know find hidden nooks and crannies and and find little places where other people weren't and just like exist inside of this virtual space it was like the star wars galaxy like fantasy right like create a virtual world where people reside um but as time has gone on that has turns out that that's not what consumers want um that it's all about you know the gear and the grinds and the exploration and all of that sort of falls to the wayside um in a pretty big way i mean and we can also blame you know bethesda for you know putting quest markers and always being pointed the exact direction that you you have to go like i was doing a quest in skyward sword and the mpc just told me the information and then i was like looking around for something to like show me where to go and then there wasn't anything a big beacon in the sky but it just felt like oh awesome like yeah yeah like i might be wasting my time like but that's fine like let me you know like the explore yeah exploration is fun yeah but that's yeah 13 there's always an arrow and then a spot on the map where you're supposed to go next and then 13-2 they removed that it's like non-linear there's like all of these alternate versions of the maps and different timelines that you have to like go to and then like one part like will affect another part so it's like fundamentally like a better and more enjoyable game even if the story is just complete have a great night dan mason thank you so much um so sorry to interrupt uh but yeah so 11 doesn't have any of that [ __ ] which is [ __ ] awesome right despite all the quality of life stuff that they've added they have ps2 limitations no compass um but i think that's why like i got off on alaska so much this park like you know like denali again is the size of an entire state right but there's only one road and their policy is like okay here's what you do if you encounter a bear or whatever but like there are trails but you don't have to use them you can just go wherever you want to go and it's totally above board and in fact it's encouraged it's just like they don't care what people do because there aren't enough people that could actually go there and like [ __ ] it up in a way that it won't heal itself after one season because yeah so you can like smoke crack and throw the pipe on the trail i mean that's well so weed is legal there which is also sick you know i just like walked into a store in anchorage i was like oh whoa i didn't know this was legal here i'm just like i'm one week yeah i need a uh like a indica pre-roll like try this blueberry it's really good i'm like all right twelve dollars here you go um and it's like oh cool it's weird uh that i can just smoke um and it's not a big deal so uh but yeah so the point is as we were out there you know mostly mostly what i like to do in a situation like that is like ridge ridge hiking it's where you hike up you know the side of a mountain ridge and then you get to the top and then you just kind of hike along the ridge which kind of dips and it slowly kind of gets higher and higher but it has like the sickest views you can usually see [ __ ] like way off in the distance in one way and then like big mountains on the other side and you just basically keep going until you're just so tired from uh going uphill all the time but i i was feeling it in alaska more so than anywhere since japan is the only other place that i've really felt this um just like the sense of like yeah [ __ ] video games like this is it you know like this is no man's sky but this is this is real man's sky you know like graphics don't get any better than this and you can [ __ ] die like this the stakes are in the death like yeah permadeath like the absolute highest stakes the grandest vistas there was a point we took this bush plane like a hundred miles into the park and hiked up this bridge called wiggly ridge and from the top of this ridge you could see like these mountains that were literally [ __ ] 500 miles away like it's just flat tundra and then these mountains and it's like i am seeing like the entire state of delaware is like inside of my [ __ ] eye right now you know what i mean like uh they just don't make games like that yet and i don't think we're gonna i don't think we're gonna see that in our lifetimes you know we got daggerfall i guess but we got chess flight simulator is [ __ ] cool and i remember when uh pilotwing64 came out someone was like yeah dude you can like fly from like all the way across america in it not realizing what they meant by that um right because there's that map of america in it which is like it's like cool but i thought that they meant flight simulator from 2020 um when they told me that yeah yeah so i think it's awesome that flight simulator exists i would love to play it and see my home town i have definitely been itching to try it is there a xbox uh series whatever they did just ported it to the uh series x it's supposed to be really good and uh it's on game pass um i'm uh i'm not gonna do game pass until i'm like done with the 13 trilogy um or until i really have a reason to i don't know i guess like that uh most of the new like bethesda and the new halo and [ __ ] they're gonna just go straight to game pass uh but other than that there's nothing like on there that i'm just dying to play now uh maybe i'll just pirate the pc version or something it's so it is so [ __ ] cool it looks like so beyond [ __ ] cool that they did this i watched a lgr video it's like a half hour long video of him just like checking it out and yeah there's stuff like this that happens and it's not like perfect that's sick um yeah it's awesome if like they added more stuff like that [Laughter] the hand of god reaches down and just crushes your plane he's still trying to land in it in that video but it's oh god red baron you're flying after schneiderlin flight simulator 1997 was like the peak at least in my like early gaming life it's like apostrophe 97 and it had the iconic shipped i don't know what what the the plane is maybe it's on the oh 98 is it is there i think 98 was was was the one is that the iconic one that i'm thinking of i thought it was 97. looks like a vaporwave cover there it really does it that one definitely left something to be desired when you're playing it there's something great y2k design uh right here so you see a lot of this kind of around that [ __ ] horrible time of existence lgr did something cool with i think it's the new flight simulator where he had like like three crts like simulating the ultra wide effect of the the cockpit this is the one i remember this is like what your [ __ ] uncle would have you know your uncle with the pc that wasn't flight but like a car instead and you could drive across you just virtually drive across america yeah like um like cities uh streets of simcity i was always obsessed with that concept too that you could build a city and then drive around it like in the 90s dude that uh n64 disc drive version of sim city you can go on to the street of simcity and there's like like little avatars like you can you can put your friends into it with the camera and like yeah one of the sim cities sim city 2000 for playstation 1 which sucked but i did have uh it was just excruciating load times but um you could it had a mode that allowed you to walk or not walk but um drive through the city it was like an autopilot mode and then you just like you could tell it when you wanted to turn or whatever yeah there's a there's a theme park game that is like that too uh it's like the sequel it was like the third theme park game that there was like there was a playstation version and a pc version that had a real shitty first person but it was just like oh my god i was thinking about i was thinking about you tech and simcity uh on check out the name of this nameless trail the savage alpine trail we're on the savage alpine this is a river called the savage river but from the top of it that's where i got that that photo of me looking like lincoln breath of the wild you could see trees growing up the sides of mountains and it looked so much like simcity 2000 and i was just thinking about [ __ ] how we would always think about the way that that game would scatter trees um yeah you know and like it's like the perfect azalea placement in a japanese garden that just presents like naturalism so effortlessly um but i mean that's it right just like looking out seeing the trees like that is like [Music] i mean it's enough for me to want to like reach in my throat and like pull out my spinal cord and then somehow like tie a noose with it and then wrap that around my feet jesus and then have a bald eagle you know grab it by the you know seventh vertebra pull me up and just drop me into a river where it's right into a polar bear's open mouth that's the savage river that's what happens that's why it's called the savage river i'm not allowed to go there either so i think they opened up the border actually but i don't i don't recommend people come here right now because you'll kill us as well there's a i think there's a man uh mandatory quarantine period for people in canada the last time yeah that's not funny i thought they just lifted it well canada canada's in a or alaska is in a really strange situation because they've lost millions of canadian tourists mostly on cruise ships this is what all the all the drivers up there were totally burnt out like all everyone there is super overworked because there's a massive labor shortage um but there's a bunch of new tourism going into alaska from people like me that are like i want to go to japan but i can't so this is far but yeah like there's a big massive resort right outside of denali park which i guess normally uh like 2500 people can stay there but they're down to like 200 rooms because that's all they could stand for um jesus yeah that's a this world is really [ __ ] right now and it's just getting worse and worse and worse but yeah trees forests all that stuff mountains before the dark times i actually met a guy biking from alaska to mexico and uh he's from the netherlands and his bike was just like fully kitted out he had a brook saddle that was like totally broken in he had like four two liter jugs of water like it's just attached to the frame like just coke bottle like two liter bottles of water with a camel pack and stuff just drinking it and like four massive panties on two on each wheel and just he's just like a uh pannier massive panties yeah wow like the novelty size ones they sold at trader's world tech you know no anyway he actually uh he actually kind of like inspired me to uh start doing long distance biking but it just seemed like from what he told me getting to vancouver island from alaska was just like what what you just described just like a fraction of what he did on a [ __ ] bicycle somehow and he was camping and like you're saying kind of no man's sky style real man's sky camping and people where he he said he was just camping up there and like some locals told them later like dude you were not camping properly like it's a miracle you weren't killed by a bear like he was just leaving his food in the tent and stuff like that yeah pretty wild and again i'm not i'm not here to say that any one world view or uh you know what people want different things out of life and just me personally my entire life has been it's like when i was a kid and i i think i was in like kindergarten or something and i heard for the first time yeah if you dig all you can dig a hole to get the china you know like the first time i heard that and then like understood earth is like a planet and just like the excitement like as you're starting to dig the hole the excitement of like knowing that it's possible and yet just like the stress of feeling like how hopeless you know that journey will be but it's still possible i mean maybe that's why i like mmos too uh you know that's just wow there it is just been chasing that feeling ever since i tried to dig a hole to china i realized it's easier to fly there [Laughter] not to derail but speaking of like these wonders of nature and things like that i like last weekend i went camping at a bc provincial park but this particular park it was a marine access only it's on a small island and uh it's really cool because i found out that it's a pilot program for uh the first nations of the area running like the the indigenous people running the the uh the park completely like not just like not just like a vanity gesture or like a land acknowledgement but like they there's a they have a massive core preparation there and they you know they they basically are like it's like it seems like a real actionable form of like land back hashtag land back and it's like it's like they're the stewards of the land there they they they deal with the campers they deal with logistics and the profits go to a corporation and it's you know they pay fees and it's like and it's i think they're thinking it's going to be done in more uh national parks um and even even the name of it it's it's newcastle island um but uh uh say such shun is the name of the island and now it's just that's the name of the park now and it's like it just feels like actual tangible steps towards deconstructing you know this settler idea of like exploring this area for the last couple hundred years i mean in canada it's much more like [Music] like we really just got here kind of vibe like yeah so especially on the west coast up here like uh yeah so it's really cool to see that being yeah a lot of a lot of the same uh natives from alaska that's we're talking about like this the same basic lineage that made their way down into canada and then into uh the pacific northwest uh it's like the same [ __ ] uh alaska was originally colonized by the russians though which is cool because like you don't have to feel uh you know too terrible about you know or too like personally responsible for like the first massive slaughter because if it wasn't americans um but yeah but then like the americans they bought alaska for like like seven million dollars or some [ __ ] from russia like russia's like i don't know we don't want it you can have it um wow as i guess uh i was reading about this uh in the anchorage museum because they had sent artists into alaska to document like what it was like there when they first bought it um and it's just like seals everywhere but they were hunted basically almost to extinction for their first which is how america they made their money back within the first year just slaughtering seals so there you go ever yeah but you know the the uh the native people of alaska you know survived there for like eight ten thousand years like no problem you know um also killed killing seals but it was all you know subsistence balanced or whatever yeah it was all sustainable yeah all of their their entire you know religious murder well you know it's their their their entire religious philosophy was all about maintaining that delicate balance to not over hunts but also recognizing the sacrifices that the animals were making so that they could just [ __ ] live and not die you know so that they could have fur on their back when it was negative 50 degrees outside and they're humans living in the arctic like six thousand years ago like it's [ __ ] intense you know yeah that's fast forward a few thousand years and you're at the end of evangelion and we're trying to kill god and yeah it's all really [ __ ] up yeah sorry it's on my mind but what is god if you follow well i mean if you watch those three those four evangelion rebuild movies you'll know i know but i don't want to spoil it for you guys so mark quote i know what god is but i don't listen so the final fantasy 13 trilogy you also are trying to kill god that's what all those games are about yeah even if you don't think they are that's what they are about they trick you in like 13 you're trying to kill like the falsies which are like the mechanical gods and then 13 2 they're like ah but there's another layer of gods of course created right that created these mechanical gods and then just when you thought they were out of ideas lightning returns is like all right but there's one god above the gods in final fantasy 13 2 that created those gods and then now he's calling the shots and lightning is hand-picked to work for him now so uh james can you do me a favor in the browser mode there anything buddy i want you to try and find a screenshot from final fantasy 4 the after years of a battle screenshot against i believe that the the final boss's name is creator nice and it's it's it's horrifying and not that but get the hand out of the way oh i'm so sorry uh that's the final form of it but it's the it's the original form of creator uh there it is this yes whoa and then it becomes like a hot chick and then it becomes kind of hot yeah and then it becomes like a you know a hell nightmare or whatever that's like evangelion actually right there look look at the look at the first phone oh damn it i'm so sorry uh this one yeah but there was a better buddy no it's just like the it's just horrifying like that just looks like a butthole mark mark i'm gonna put you in timeout [Music] so is there a 3d remake of after years too yeah but it was only amazing it was only mobile oh my god really look at it it's so weird it is weird anyway yeah um i was just thinking about that uh that game rules so my goal is to play all the main line final fantasy games beat them all and uh what about animals uh i do want to do 11 and 14. yeah i wanna i want to finish those uh i'm not counting like brave exodus or [ __ ] world of final fantasy dimensions or whatever but like i do want to do you know dirge of cerberus and like oh but that one counts i mean yeah yes it does they're just cerberus like the the uh 12 revenant wings and like yeah all those weirdo titles like i i want to get through them all and it's kind of fun because i haven't like played final fantasy in years before 7 remake and that kind of like reignited my my love for the series so um i think when uh wow what's that there's something coming out well it's gonna be mobile i think god damn it there's some sort of final fantasy vii it starts with it oh yeah right uh yeah i can't it's like a battle royale no no no that's that's first soldier but this is uh it's like ee c um ever cry for christ ever crisis yeah all right oh right that's every single thing in final and final fantasy vii but like chibi quad yes there's a surprise yeah excluding georgia cerberus skeptical now it's cerberus uh it's crisis corps it's before crisis and a playable version of advent children as well as okay that's where that will be so entirely you know dear services action shooter basically i'm gonna definitely enjoy it but but yeah i i do want to play this for sure [Applause] every price looks cool but this is where's the ever crisis is yeah it is i was just getting the t for there they're showing how this looks in remake of the original and then in every crisis so yeah it looks real i mean it's sick that they're returning to that style you know like that yeah i think it's i think it's cool i think it looks like you're gonna use pre-rendered backgrounds which is i've [ __ ] missed that so much i just i just want them to uh i mean it's gonna be chapter based it's gonna be uh chapter based but i just wish i mean i just wish it wasn't mobile yeah dude i'm playing fantasy the final fantasy pixel remastered final fantasy one i'm playing that right now and uh you can't it has no controller support i found that and after i bought it but the tap the cap grid you can you can use like a weird screen d-pad but if you could also just tap where you want to go and that's actually a great way to play a top-down like oh you just tap it once and then he walks over there oh yeah where you just let it auto walk or whatever sucks i don't i just want to play it with a [ __ ] controller yeah too i'm just trying to make the most of my 20s i know i i considered buying it but then i was like there's just no way for me to do this like in a way that i want to do it so it looks that like incredible though midgar citizen uh cosplay gear right there this is the uh yeah this is from the premiere the costumes from the premiere lost and i was talking about gap earlier this is what uh these are the outfits of your average 2007 american and final fantasy vii remake npcs yes exactly yeah honestly yeah honestly the layered tea look like big time god yeah hey that's good that's charlie that's uh charlie the hobbit uh should we do the uh should we do the old playlist yeah because it's about time for that one i don't you like doing that we don't have to it's okay simply i guess when i was a child um i had to get uh like a mandatory shot um and i don't remember saying this but my dad said like we were in the car about to walk into the hospital or whatever and i was like uh you know what let's just skip it a clever boy we were so clever oh man you're gonna really make me do this i mean yeah what 20 20 seconds for each song i got adam and stuff i mean look mine's going to be in real time let me do mine first so i can think about it well they're all [ __ ] up because kevin and mark both sent them at the same time so they're not even in any kind of order and they changed okay look i'm okay so i'm skipping the first okay i see how it works mark you're going first all right uh what about uh the journey starts today this is even from pokemon journeys have any of you guys seen this show no i'm not a child so yeah fair i actually tried to watch like the sun and moon show i watched it for like 10 minutes i'm just like this is killing the brain cells for sure i'm socially developed yeah but i don't necessarily really like this song but i i appreciated that the production on it and that like oh this is what they're doing with the intro now like this is the same show that's been running for a long time and they try to i guess reinvent it a bit and just like the games i guess i know that you guys none of you are huge pokemon fans but uh it's still really nostalgic for me i would describe myself as a just a pokemon fan okay not big not a fan of pokemon i wouldn't say i i i'm with kevin i'm a fan i'm a fan of pokemon man yeah yeah but i don't really want to like i play every new pokemon game for at least 10 hours before shoving it forever yeah because it gets boring yeah and repetitive we don't need that yeah yeah um but yeah no i mean it's it's it's like kind of a banger a little bit so anyways put it on here and there's like only very very intermittent pokemon content on spotify like kind of very odd what they have on there james will like this one from nosaj thing which does that mean no such thing uh it's called mountain is it nonsense and it's on the album no mind just like what james says good one thanks my friend sick burn yeah that's cute man finally so that's you know that's what remember everyone remembers no such thing like we were all we were wearing that dude we were wearing you know the lost uniform a striped shirt and low-cut jeans probably when we were listening to his first release or whatever i don't know it's probably 2000 talking about it no such memory you guys were shopping at the gap in 2009 in 2009 mark that was like part of the like the post burial uh future base explosion so i was shopping um but i never had the [ __ ] nes controller filled for christ's sake all right i mean i'm wearing videos this is a [ __ ] no man's sky shirt i'm wearing now you guys care i make this work video game t-shirts so i feel like a man i make it work all right and finally what can you tell us about here tonight oh uh well i picked another song by dos but apparently kevin put it on the playlist two weeks ago and he shamed me for that because i guess i didn't it's down there can you see it like three songs down i don't know it's okay um yeah and uh i really enjoyed listening to their new ep uh four new hit songs it's called which i'm sure kevin told us about but i don't i have a short term memory that's not the greatest so um yeah i could actually i this is like i did listen to the rest of discography and this song was great but i wanted to put something from four new hit songs on there but kevin already did that so wow kevin b e to the punch speaking of kevin uh what can you tell us about s c and three um my buddy andres uh he's got um he's been djing under um him and a buddy have have kind of started this collective called the buen viaje radio and they're playing like fun house and techno and stuff and doing streams and they're gonna start throwing parties here in chicago but uh he's always my go-to dude to like get new dance music for him and he sent me this uh track from priori and uh it just hit the frickin spot it's just like everything that i look for in a kind of a low-key cool like down tempo uh house jam it's it's really cool and i i didn't want it to end and then i looked at the timer and i was like oh hell yeah this is like nine minutes and it goes on like just the right amount of time like it doesn't overstay its welcome at all and you want it to keep going until the last minute so uh the rest of his discography is really cool too all right well um what about whit music says tech quit being a baby i'm going to take that from wit dude hey look i'm being a baby what can i say we all sometimes we gotta we gotta wet ourselves and sometimes you know uh [Laughter] it looks like you might have put a song on here from final fantasy 13 i did i did it's actually lightning returns colon final fantasy 13. that's the the true title and i think it's the only it's the only final fantasy game to not have a yoshitaka mono like background instead it's like xbox 360 era like metallic letters flying around in a mouse drum and they're like boom and then they hit the screen and it's wild but um this is uh uh 13 2 i think has one of the best soundtracks in the series that was like the my last picks were all 13 two picks uh and it's nayoshi mizuta um who did the 11th soundtrack he's my favorite of all time oh yeah like his stuff is so good um so yeah it's uh uh mitsudo suzuki is is the kind of like it seems like he's the the neyoshi mizuta to musashi hamuzu uh if that makes sense like he's kind of like all right we're gonna throw in a this other dude here yeah yeah yeah yeah uh his tracks are on on 132 and on lighting returns are are really really good as well and uh there's this this part that happens about a minute and a half in um it's like a coral piece and then it i don't know if it uh if it changes keys or if it it just goes it delves into like minor territory for like a little bit and it's got this kind of uncertain sinister feel after this like really like holy church-like uh coral feel to it and it's so cool and uh i mean i like i just know already that like the final boss of this game is probably going to be god uh just just from just from the musical foreshadowing in this track so yeah there's that there's that uh i love the audacity of mark and kevin with with 10 minutes left in the show just like we're gonna talk exactly as much as we always do [Laughter] uh finally we have uh the gun clubs the breaking hands somebody's talking about guns before but free streaming and uh it made me remember i will not go camping in the arctic unless i have a gun because of police that's what i decided none of there's there's a national park north denali called the gates of the arctic i really want to go there now uh but i'm not going there unless they have a gun [ __ ] you shouldn't join me the gun club otherwise those polar bears might break your hands it's produced by robin guthrie of the cocktail twins so it basically sounds like a cocktail twin song um and so who who doesn't like a bonus cocktail twin song that's not an actual cocktail toy song yeah well maybe uh probably um probably could have made a really easy juno joke in there because juno alaska endless endless playlists um all right well james do you know any songs that you want to add yeah so we're going to start with uh moonlight in vermont by willie nelson as i explained earlier no further explanation is required and then uh how about um angel in the snow by elliott smith because that was me uh did find snow on top of a mountain which was exciting for me to play with snow in august so that would be my second pick and then um how about buried in snow from the final fantasy 7 soundtrack is that in there those are my favorite favorite tracks of that original ost uh if you're just into that sort of ambient kind of stuff those are my picks boom oh god i don't know uh i will all i'll say is that i've switched over to apple music um because it's better than spotify uh despite its whack ass [ __ ] interface um that should be a lot better than it is um but anyway uh we'll just do i've already added all this [ __ ] i don't know um oh god what zana do oh hell yeah danadoo uh the elo song that um olivia john sings instead and it's just every time i hear it i get excited uh and then it always pays off at the end uh because like even if i'm like all right yeah i know how the birds in the course go they're great whatever the end of it is so [ __ ] huge and awesome um also uh we'll do enola gay um which is a song by uh i think it was like a isn't isn't an oligate one of the planes that like dropped one of the big bombs the enola gay well maybe the box car was the nagasaki one because that's what they got it i can't remember what the enola gay is i'm looking at that okay um an olga is actually a really popular song uh by orchestral maneuvers in the dark all otherwise known as omd who are probably most famous for uh yeah that's the one that dropped it on hiroshima you're right okay um i think omd is uh most popular for the song if you leave don't leave no you know ladies man 83 million plays on spotify almost twice that of if you leave apparently that is a really really famous song that i was just completely unaware of and i really love it so put that on there and uh oh i've been on a huge juice newton kick um juice newton uh made famous by death styling make sure just like the beatles the song my wife who i still love uh the closing track on classroom sex tape is uh actually basically a cover of her song the sweetest thing i've ever known um but uh i'm going to put angel of the morning on here instead which i have probably put on here before um maybe not anyway uh that song rules juice newton rocks and uh those are my picks oh yeah so we did it uh well not quite i want to congratulate you guys on getting uh mentioned on my second favorite podcast besides neogaya fantasy uh insert credit which is um you know video game podcast going back to 2001 with uh frank zafaldi from the video game history uh foundation brandon sheffield um who's uh he uh writes for games and um they mentioned us tim rogers was was on and uh the questions are uh user submitted and they asked uh do are our video games a part of vaporwave and um liz ryerson mentioned the uh sonic r samples on i'll try living like this and uh then recommended i'll try living like this at the end of the episode when they do that this is cool because she is uh also from ohio um and about the same age as us so has gone through um when she's socialized in the same shitty way this latest episode i'm just gonna i'm gonna find the link and drop it in the comments um usually they do it's like a lightning like really really on point discussion where you know a question's brought up and they have six minutes to answer it and then there's a buzzer and then they move on but they spent half of the episode with the timer off basically discussing what the hell is wrong with video games nowadays and they brought up a lot of really good points about the the blizzard activision thing oh god and they had um that ash parrish on the show um who used to write for kotaku and uh i think now is doing her own stuff i'll just say in closing it's not often that like that i will like significantly alter my life because of like like a social cancellation but it's like there are certain instances like woody allen like no way buddy like i it's i can't watch it it's too weird i know too much about this guy and like like the diablo 2 remake just dropped and i'm just like like i feel i feel woody allen-ness towards blizzard now you know like after growing up with like loving warcraft 3 and starcraft and [ __ ] i'm just like you know like the jerry seinfeld like uh [Music] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] you
