Epicurus on god, circa 300ish BC:
βIs God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?β
Given how many innocent children die from natural disasters, God, if he exists, is either impotent or evil.
One of the first things that got me questioning the existence of god was the existence of gang rape. If god watches everything and is the cause of everything, and everything that happens is his plan... then he's a sick fuck and I want nothing to do with him.
If god is all-powerful, then he's demonstrably evil. If he's not all-powerful, then he's simply irrelevant.
I don't lack belief in a god because "if it exists, it is necessarily evil"; I lack belief because a) there is no credible evidence for any god, and b) the evidence we do have points in the other direction.
Every Night and every Morn
Some to Misery are Born.
Every Morn and every Night
Some are Born to sweet delight.
Some are Born to sweet delight,
Some are Born to Endless Night.
~ William Blake (28 November 1757 β 12 August 1827)

Dickholes. :(
Like saying Stalin is great.
If you stopped clapping first you died. (or was that Mussolini)
Either way, 'god is great' could have stemmed from fear. 'God', if he existed could be as evil as his acts.
Kill your son to prove you love me. - Major narcissist.
You people are 'evil' (dont do what I say) so Im killing the whole city.
Doesnt at all equate to all powerful. Sure they would say he is and act like he is and write that he is all powerful but in reality he was just evil and people feared him.
With that fear and greater power, as opposed to all power, comes submission and even reverence like the cult follower.
Anyone have a mirror for us Canadians?
Reminds me of Stephen Fry's answer to pretty much the same question.
