position a lot of experienced players between kaelin meyer kayla kathy and callie schwarzenbach i know they've all had excellent practices the past two weeks so i think lauren they're just taking time with her she's building back up her strength i i know she hasn't been in practices yet she's just been lifting and conditioning and and they're trying to get her strength back and then once they feel like you know she's 100 or 110 from a strength and conditioning aspect then they're going to put her on the court but it's going to be a slow introduction they want to take take their time with this to make sure they there's no uh room for air or for potential re-injury the white in the far court and the red in the near court just beneath us in the red nicklin haines lexi's son maddie kubick and lindsey krause kaelin meyer in the middle kalin's well rested she didn't run to the top row and give away her volleyball she went to the front row and gave away her volleyball so she's ready and uh and we'll see the other middles is uh callie schwartz and it's kelly schwarzenbach and then the libero lexi rodriguez playing with all those veterans and kaelin meyer meanwhile in the whites kayla kathy ali baitin horst whitney lowenstein taking care of her shoelaces as we get ready for this one kenzie knuckles is not the libero she's in the white jersey and kayla akana don't forget kayla she was money this spring keeping the ball off the floor and then ani evans looks like it's going to start as the setter over there for the whites the one problem you have with lindsey krause on the right side for the red team if that's what they go with for the rest of the season you may lose that kayleigh econo option coming in and playing right back because lindsay krause can play all six rotations and the benefits of that is she's able to add an attacking option out of the back row also known as a red so if they do decide to stick with lindsey krause on the right side we may not there's a chance we may not see kayla akana this season and she was phenomenal in this in the spring so to lose her that again speaks to how much talent is potentially on this story inside coach always likes to have a back row attack option and boy watching uh lindsey krause in practice on wednesday she could hit it from the concourse kenzie knuckles to start this red white scrimmage in front of a near capacity throwing very few unoccupied chairs here's the serve by kenzie in the past made by the reds that's maddie cubic backs that right side lexi's son from the right pin roll shot doug clinton now the white outside will shot bait horse not this time the reds bumping over the right side we're all shot by lindsey the donut bring up by kaylee for the moment [Applause] and coach cook is big on serving and passing the six best servers six best passers are going to be out on the court and maddie cubic actually passed that first ball and her and lexi sun and lexi rodriguez have been three of the best passers throughout two a days sir lexy sun bait north great pass right side swing and a determination for lowenstein though waverly viking ties this baby up at 1. remember ani evans and whitney lowenstein played together at waverly high school so they have a nice connection there ani feeds whitney back on the right side and they're very familiar with playing with each other served by kayleigh akana the liberal for the whites right side swing and there's krause delivering off the digging out two to one red as uh neither squad able to hold boy krause hits it hard in practice usually players will save the shoulders and do a lot of tipping she swings full big arm out of scott catholic here's the serve by alexi rodriguez not a great pass by baiting horse bumps set to the left bait the white side jb they're running kind of a funky lineup so ani evans is going to be your setter when they're in those uh 6-2 rotations so when the sutter's back row then when the setter rotates to the front row kennedy ore is actually going to come in and play front row uh for those five one rotations so it it is a five one that they're running but with two different setters which is interesting another bad pass off the lowenstein serve white gets it again back row swing by kenzie knuckles can you believe this right so attach side attack by her krausey for the red now the white middle swing kayla kathy down 16. kenzie knuckles a two-time libero for two straight years she's suddenly swinging from the 10-foot line [Applause] and i have to talk about that set from kennedy or she is such a crafty sutter and and just made a it was almost a side set an interesting move there and was able to still run the middle even off of a tough pass back row swing by kubrick for the red over jake joust and a big block for kelly schwartzenblock and that ends a five-point white run the red puts another number up there and it's 6-3 white just started pull up a chair spend the night with veteran outsides struggling a little bit early lexi sun with her passing and then kubrick with two attack hairs timeout by tyler hildebrand and his red squad 8-3 red hair as we just started on the huskers sports network what are your thoughts early after watching 11 rallies well you mentioned right before the timeout jb how the outsides were just making a few attacking errors and i think part of that is the temple has changed a little bit they're trying offensively they're just trying to run a little bit of a faster tempo offense so we're going to see some miscues some mishits uh and and just maybe some more attacking errors because they're trying to adjust to that tempo good pass by the reds kubrick they're on the side schwarzenbach gets dug tight to the net joust controlled by the white jack back to the right back swing by lowenstein she's the story with her serving and now another kill it's nine to three white and she's lonesome's actually attacking out of that back row so that's that red attack remember you can run out of the middle that's called a pipe and then if you go behind the head we haven't seen that since gosh who's the last player to run that jb maybe morgan broke ice back when i played i mean it's been a while since we've had a right side who plays all the way around left side roll shot by the red diamond dig attempt lowenstein too late point red side out 9-4 say more about that right sides rarely attacking all the way around well for the past few years we've seen jazz sweet and she got subbed out of the back row so it was a defensive specialist uh who was in there and they don't normally attack or they're not in there as an attacking option they're in there to pass and serve and play defense so uh the fact that you know a right side front row attacker is rotating to the back it's just it's been a while since we've seen that and you're able to run a more dynamic offense because you have that right side back row option in those five one rotations when the setter is in the front row kayla caffey the slide for the white big block lexi sun and callie schwarzenbach kelly schwarzenbach is in the middle of so much disruptive defense at the front at the front near the net and she gets another block 9-5 white served by the red left side swing bait and horse no now the huskers back right swing by krause [Applause] we just saw whitney lowenstein for the white get a kill on that red attack and then there lindsey krause get an attack on that on that red set and it's just lethal that back row attack it's tough to stop any attack from the right side but especially from the back row the white speed horse good pass gets back roll shot doug now the red the side big rip from schwarzenbach off the block and then net violation white schwarzenbach with the kill 9-7 white after the white's lead was five it is now diminished to just two but schwarzenbach all muscle she was your weight lifter of the year this season and so she's bringing a lot more power on that attack in the middle serve to bait norris another perfect pass back right swinging lowenstein and nearly drops bumps at left for the red lexy sun block back covered from lindsay krause into the bottom of the net the set might have been a little off 10-8 white just looking over the stats jb we have the white team hitting 2-6-3 remember their goal is 300 and then the red team has dropped down to 188 so that's a little low uh i'd like to see the red team get a little more offensive and and get that uh hitting number up serve kelly akana to the red the slide and cali schwarzenbach another kill she's got a couple bucks she has a couple kills kelly schwarzenmach wants to be in the mix here with two middle blocker positions wide open point red 10-9 white in the gonna need some explanation on that nickname outside sec big swing from ali bayton horse 11-10 white baitor has been impressive now what again is lexi rodriguez's nickname and what's the derivation i i all i know is it's roddy and i think that's just short for rodriguez and since there's two legacies they call her roddy so roddy roddy is lexi rodriguez and then lexi is lexie's son all right jack back big swing by kaelin meyer as she bangs it off the block and up her mom the former great middle peggy meyerby fired up about that 11 apiece here in the second in the first set that's kaelin meyer's first set uh that nicklin's fed to her and her first kill for the match they clinton now to serve which means she's going to pound that volleyball into the floor it's clearly inflated 11 each remember loudenstein at husker dream camp a couple summers ago was persuaded to move from the middle to the outside so she's fairly new to this position and she's looking good served by kenzie think he's ever coached the white side i think you're right all righty here comes the serve by lowenstein bump set left for the red and there's maddie kubick off the digging out and the red sides out 17-14 for the way he kind of he likes to stay above the fray during the red white magic wanders about he's fairly nomadic during the red white scripture who are the most impressive huskers so far as the white jumps again to a four-point advantage late in the first i'm going with baton horse she's she's putting on a clinic right now i think kenzie knuckles has has made some really nice plays passing yeah passing looks really good on the white side i actually am surprised the reddish is they're struggling right now their side out percentage is low they're not able to to run anything in transition there's a lot of miscues so just uncharacteristic errors especially for some of those veteran players and one right there kelly schwarzenbach decided to play that float serve short you're supposed to let the back row handle it kayla caffey whitney loudenstein has been impressive three kills one error and the white's hitting 333 the red hitting two five nine offensive match this far back row swing and lexi sun off the digging out and lets he gets the reds within four 19 15. i think jb one of the reasons why the white is having so much success is both setters annie evans and kennedy orr are really moving the ball around and it's the offense is very evenly distributed and they're running a lot of middle and middle is tough to stop so uh running middle and then the right side to whitney lowenstein that's going to open up a lot of holes for those outsides and that's why ally baton horse is having such a nice night another kill her seventh for payton horse after a perfect set from kennedy or their body bumping in lincoln 19 i think the scoreboard's all messed up yeah it's 20 to 15 right now but scorpius is 20 to 16. no one's really all that upset about it the kaelin meyer so that's the right set choice and ani ani's vision is really strong and she sees where the block's going so she gets a lot of one-on-one situations kubrick good pass for the red outside lexi sun down point red within five 22-17 late in the first for the white okay so going back to last saturday's scrimmage ali bayton horse was actually starting on the outside uh for the red the red squad and uh she had a really good week of practice and then in the second week she struggled in practice so that's why we're seeing lexi and maddie on the outside now so that outside position again let's give a gander to these statistics here alley baton horse eight kills for the white just one air hitting three six eight on nineteen swings she's loving this action kayla kathy five kills two airs at 300 in the middle for the white and also for the white whitney lowenstein four kills two errors hitting two two two how about for the red they're down 23 20 late in the first lexi's sun four kills nowhere is hitting 500. maddie kubic three kills one air hitting two two two and kalin meyer has two kills on just two swings that's perfect one thousand lindsay krause two kills on nine swings but a bunch of those swings are from the back row and then kelly schwarzenbach two kills on four swings hitting 500 she's been involved in three blocks and kelly schwarzenbach highly disruptive when she's in the front row playing defense and i think this crowd is pretty impressed these freshmen as anticipated look college ready i mean a lot of high school kids are trying to put up college-ready act scores they're trying to put up college ready gpas but this bunch is playing some college ready volleyball they i you know they all said that they had nerves but they don't look nervous at all to me and they're you're right they're playing at a very high level i think when tulsa watches this they're thinking hold on overpass by kenzie slambach [Applause] remember that six point deficit forget it it's two now late in the first as the red with all these veterans mounting a comeback lexi sun sends that one way long 24 21 white that was gift wrapped and then the fans on that side standing the younger players who just don't have as much experience playing together and so i think we're going to see some of those communicationers happen you know the remainder of tonight and then into the this fall she's running a business highly successful one already she's in graduate school and she's trying to be a three-time all-american that's a lot to handle a lot on her plate but she does it all kickoff nebraska at illinois and football meanwhile the huskers pre-season number five penn state preseason number 12 stanford pre-season number 21 that's unhappy valley penn state pre-season number 12. are you kidding me [Music] now stanford i think they're ranked 21 because [Music] during the spring i think there were a lot of players that either opted out or had injuries or i mean they did not have their typical starters their normal team they couldn't play at maple's pavilion because the county basically shut down athletic activities so they had to go travel they played in arizona for a while it was a nightmare season for stanford right side swing for the white krausey dug now the red tip shot lexie's sun blocked back red volleyball up by five seven two early in the fourth lexi sun done now the white ani evans doing a nice job setting tonight right side roll shot krause beautiful up by nicklin crosses the net now the white back row kenzie knuckles out of bounds point red 8-2 as stanford is not known for taking uh it's just not known for having a bad season remember they got more national championships than any other program but boy they were hamstrung by all the challenges that the rest of the country had long shoot set schwarzenbach gets another kill point for the white 8-3 reds set four eight three red set four and now lindsay krause sinks her right hand into it line drive nice pass by alexi pulls her setter off though back set roll shot from lowenstein out of the way verlino outside set maddie kubrick on a beautiful quick set by guessing kennedy or point white 8-4 now red and that there's a lot of tempo on that set it's a fast set to the outside and what happened there so matty cubic was swinging whitney loudenstein who was blocking maddie actually got caught up thinking that that set was going to kelly schwarzenbach in the middle because it was so quick and that left maddie cubic without a blocker on that on that outside attack lexi sun swings nice up by white quick transition kennedy ore to the right pin and believe that was maddie no that was lindsey krause from the back row point white red now leads only by three eight five rousey sends the serve pass made alexis son right side hammer lowenstein long another white point eight to six wreck boy the campus is full of college kids wondering about what a day it was today i'm not sure there were a lot of love library inhabitants today everyone just seen me outdoors you know everyone's a four row at this time of year no one's made an error and no one's missed a class no one slept in when playing libero is a back row attacker and she has swung at least seven or eight times the first time she took something off and it fell 12-6 red as the white sides out serve twinkles the time from kenzie knuckles nearly drops great save back right by ron steiner and lexy sung finishes left ping point red 13-6 official scrimmage attendance tonight 67-84 67-84 i believe that's the largest number the story is nicklin haynes landed awkwardly earlier in this set and has left the arena unable to put any weight on her right leg you just hope it's nothing serious but for nicklin to not finish playing it it makes you wonder i mean usually she gets she's been hit in the face i think she's rolled her ankle before in matches and she gets up and continues to play so for her to be out i'm assuming it's pretty serious back right attack by lowenstein out of bounds point for the white 14-7 red in the fourth players have switched sides a lot tonight for what it's worth the white team won the sets uh one and three set two was very close and the red pulled out a two-pointer i'm john paler there's lauren cook west mike elliott at the dials tonight he's your executive producer for all has been setting well but digging well she's been impressive barely noticeable which is a good thing she also ani runs a lot of middle and she does it really well she has a nice connection with all three middles and that's i think what's most impressive about her is just how confident she is running the middles and then how well she sets the middles the slide for the red that's kaelin meyer not ball handling tonight again there on that rally 15-8 red 10 away lexi's son has had her moments four service errors were forgettable but she's played well blocking and attacking kayla meyer serves out of bounds probably won't see her serving this year middles get to serve in the red white that's about it point for the white 15-9 red in the fourth set 2-1 in sets white post-match show john cook throughout two a days he told me nicklin haines maddie cubic and lindsey krause but after tonight jb i mean lexi rodriguez she's a she's a great server you have whitney loudenstein she's showed up so this four set we uh we we should not speculate but uh historic uh knowledge of injuries just makes you hope it was an ankle not that the ankles are something you want to have injured but when you if you choose between the two typically the ankle would be less severe we do not know and we are thinking about nickelodeon and her family right now and this is a young woman who has a lot of blood and sweat in this program she is a multi-year captain just elected today for yet another campaign as captain and uh she was right there in 2018 set five championship match against stanford as a true freshman and her fingerprints are all over this program and for the moment she is in the locker room we'll learn more when it becomes available left side tip shot maddie kubik for the white over dig here come the white again right side krausey long point red 20 to nine red the white took over late in the third and the third in the third set now they're red pulling away late in the fourth and my guess is that uh with the injury we'll probably finish after this set regardless of the outcome served by kennedy or that's way long she's still got the adrenaline pumping 20 to 10 now [Music] jb i don't know if you remember this but back in 2013 i believe kelsey robinson went down in the red white scrimmage with an injury and i i don't remember what the injury was but it was a nothing and she had to she barely walked off on her own power she played the next weekend right side swing by lindsay krause off the digging out point white 2011. i do remember that um it's the only time we've see ooh denise cosil 96 knee injury in the red white but that it's a rare occurrence rare occurrence ever in this sport uh with these athletes so well trained but uh that that proved to be nothing for kelsey thank goodness in 2013 long shoot set for the red kayla kathy and white digs it up and then carrie schwarzenbach finishes point white 20-12 since we're on the topic of injuries i know maddie cubic was has been nursing an ankle sprain that happened back in the summer but she she's looked strong tonight she looks healthy i'm not sure if she's back to 100 though and then kenzie knuckles also got hurt the first week of two a days but she looks pretty strong tonight as well absolutely lexi's son for the red blasted through the double block 21-12 red four to go i think you you have to all these you know nebraska we don't see a lot of injuries uh from the huskers but all these uncharacteristic injuries i think it's due to that coveted season and just having you know time off when they normally didn't have time off and um kind of the disruption in the game scheduling and the practices and you know one week you're playing one week you're not so i think that's why we're seeing a little more injuries than normal this year with this squad kelly schwarzenbach tip shot for the white another kill for her now remember she is never exiting she is a six rotation middle uh front row only that will not be allowed starting on friday but still she's been impressive offensively and you know how she can block pass by the red rodriguez not so good set left sun out lexi miss hits point white 21-14 so fans of the white team starting to dream a little that's two in a row kayla akana she probably has a high school alma mater with more syllables than any other husky volleyball player ever pass made by lexi rodriguez back set shot by lindsay lowenstein continues to impress with another kill 22-14 the red team i don't know if you saw this but kayla akana actually in the summer dyed her hair i mean it was husker red it was bright red uh i don't know if you caught a picture of that jb but she could rock it right side swing like krause off the digging out the answer your question is i did not but i wish i had and if there are photos that will be intriguing but she did not keep the school color school hair color for the season 22 15. red coach cook nixed it long shoot set and a big kill for kale meyer has been impressive tonight point red 23-15 [Music] the red is two-way from winning this fourth set and here's lowenstein out of waverly to serve again she's got a bunch of aces tonight not this time kubrick decent pass gets back maddie cooper for the white off the block and out it's a kill point for the white does maddie kubick does anyone in the country use the block more than maddie cooper i don't think so and ohio state at times didn't even stick up any hands because they're like right why try to block her because all she ever does toolbox and so they would actually keep their hands down and said all right we're just going to try to dig her she's so good at banging the ball off her fingertips and to the floor left side swing for the red lexi sun doug now the white kubick roll shots it blocked back and it drops that's a block for kaelin meyer she has been impressive point red 24-16 this could be right here in the fourth [Applause] [Applause] finish impressive and a lot of fans have waited just to hang on these words by lauren and basically she's articulated how frustrating the spring was especially for her i mean she started feeling some back challenges early last season we didn't know much about it until it became apparent she missed a match in the postseason no less against baylor she fought through it against texas was not herself and uh she really wants a chance to avenge that and uh she was not only the the only player that struggled in that texas post-season match that the whole team did that that was tech it was part texas dude don't get me wrong texas played texas was effective they've got really great talent everyone's back for them but that was not by us long stretch nebraska's best matchup of the spring so they're all back and most of them are back i should say and tonight lauren fairly impressive but the sobering note nicholan haynes falls to the floor needs help to leave and we just hope it is nothing serious and she is just someone who has earned every right to be out there she plays with such passion all the time meanwhile we await the uh head coach following this one we'll run through the numbers when we
