the Hawaii Warriors have high hopes for this season and there's no reason to doubt a Heisman candidate Colt Brennan continues to build on last season in which he broke or tied 18 NCAA Division one records the Warriors start a 12 day road trip with a visit to Ruston Louisiana to take on Patrick Jackson and the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech it's the Warriors and the Bulldogs next on ESP is bus [Music] [Music] welcome to Joe ie Stadium in Ruston Louisiana it's a wack opener six meeting all-time the Warriors of Hawaii take on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs good evening everybody I'm Trey bender alongside Renee Nadeau glad you're with us Hawaii their highest national ranking in 15 years led by Heisman Trophy candidate Colt Brennan all he's done renee is rewrite the NCAA books he's not exactly a well-kept secret but a lot of people don't know much about him he had 58 touchdown toss this last year which was an NCAA record and he sent out the fourth quarter in six games the season opener he had took 19 completions in one for 234 and 1/2 he had six touchdown tosses for coming in one corner he's got 99 career touchdown sauces tie him six with Matt Leinart he's 23 more to be the top dog in that category and a tech coaches hope you don't hit that mark this evening the new tech coach Derek Dooley he has said all the right things start to put his stamp on the program here in Ruston he's a hands-on kind of guy he coached under Nick Saban for seven seasons and he's learned a lot from him as well of his dad coach Dooley but the thin guy he's an account on his Patrick Jackson Patrick Jackson finish up the 2006 season averaging 100 yards per game he started up this season with a bang 120 yards in the season opener he's only 510 193 pounds but he runs much bigger than that size he'll need his running he'll also need the arm of their quarterback Zach champion it's gonna be a tough test warriors the most dynamic confidence in the nation kickoff coming up next from Ruston [Music] we're close to capacity here at Joe IH Stadium for the lack opener between the 20th ranked Hawaii Warriors and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs here's a look at the home team dressed in the blue jerseys excited about this season after opening up with a season opening victory over Central Arkansas and their fans excited about Derek Dooley on the Hawaii side they have big hopes this season may be this year's Boise State they feel like they could potentially run the table have a perfect season with June Jones at the helm let's take a look at the weather I mentioned earlier a humid September evening 85 degrees feels a lot hotter than that and the chances of storms it's good a bit a lot hotter at Koch Brennan and as wide-open off-message be interesting tonight huh Louisiana Tech matches up with looking at a running team against the passing game to see who wins where is he in a Texaco to get the tip off first so right away they'll get a chance to see what they can do offensively and they have a very good special teams group that to really save them in the victory against Central Arkansas 28 to 7 as Dan Kelly the lead Rose Award candidate the junior will kick it away just see what he did last week in their 63 6 win over Northern Colorado 10 kickoffs I think you know if did you wear a shoe up tray with that type of evening but then you see how many times he'll be kicking off and look where he's kicking from the 15-yard line so before the start of the game a personal foul penalty on Hawaii so haha how about that said they've yet to start this one and they put Markham 15 yards backwards so Kelly now will kick from the 15 and this should give the Bulldogs an excellent opportunity the lack opener for the Warriors of the Bulldogs run away Kelley's kick will be fielded by Jackson across the 40 and out to the 44 yard line and great field position for Zack champion and this Louisiana Tech offense they'd like to have some sustained drives and also convert on third down you want to rank the field early going and this will be a momentum swing for Louisiana Tech if they can do something with a long drive and producing points in his opening series is what he did last year must be more accurate with his throws according to the head coach Dooley looking for some consistency couple bad decisions cost him in games last year on first down the pitch to Jackson heading back across the grain and up to the 49 yard line post of five on that carry let's take a look at the Bulldogs offensively up front they love their people but it all starts with Patrick Jackson Josh wheeler three-year starter wide receiver Miller and Considine the graduate tackles Miller goes 6 7 and 3 14 they're the anchors up there and their model guys according to coach Dooley pick up second and five just across the 48 yard line champion and off its Jackson cosmic field fights forward and appears to have a first down to the Hawaii 45 yard line now lately moku on the tackle this Hawaii defense lost some players to graduation last year two of them were in the NFL so they're really counting on Raphael a the try captain 23 starts up front it's a team that has some solid linebackers believing moku 25 career starts at that strong side linebacker position and in the secondary Patek a returning starter and he's a solid senior out of Victoria Texas first down at the 45 yard line tech handoff tackle and moving forward on the play is Jackson after a short gain of warning pops at Ghana the backfield good penetration but the thing about Louisiana Tech they doing a good job up front the offensive line and giving Patrick Jackson and their running backs nice room to maneuver that was Porter so they go quickly to Porter I getting a carry and he's a very talented sophomore out of Baton Rouge that will spell Jackson from time to time second down and nine Louisiana Tech and the Hawaii 44 two receivers to split backs from the gun champion plenty of time in the flats the fullback Dustin Mitchell he goes nowhere and that's a nice play by Carl Noah the right defensive end Millett rips out and covers to fullback that's his responsibility as champion was looking good with regressions as he was trying to see who may be open downfield good find anything and went to the flat lifted went to his secondary receiver couldn't come up with anything there wants to get in isolation a good play defensively by Rainbow Warriors they give him a couple yards on floor progress to the Hawaii forty two third and seven three receiver set single back this time as Jackson [Applause] champion left sideline catch made first down grab it's Joe Anderson and he's down to Hawaii 29 yard line just a freshman from Texarkana Texas they're excited about his potential he runs a little comeback and champion delivered the ball a white whale he needed it to be on the outside shoulder came and had ample protection here he throws the ball the outside shoulder nice cutback right here by receiver for a nice pickup and you gonna see a lot of the receivers especially Joe etirsa just a freshman four or five splitter speed 13-yard pickup Jacob Patek the strong safety on the spot in the Bulldogs looking very good as you look at his numbers in high school he is an all-star and first Texas high school player to surpass a thousand yards receiving a 1 season as I handed up to Jackson and he drives down to the 27 is he loses his helmet after tackle by Imani Purcell you've gotta love the start go for the home team they're looking very confident the offensive line has given ample protection for the passer champion also some holes for Jackson and Porter and you don't tell you what we talked a little bit about about Anderson just a second ago that catch he made as he arrived on campus he seriously upgraded that receiving core assesses volumes about that freshmen seem to get last week their defense shut down northern the 63 216 having a tough time here opening series with Louisiana Tech second and seven champion in a flat flag caught by Porter there's a sideline driven out of bounds over there but a flag in the vicinity of where the catch was made [Music] [Applause] they're mixing things up well run and pass talked about Jax is running a building let's listen in motion good call it's gonna stop me to drive just momentarily but both odds are on a good drive here and doing everything right except for the last penalty champion is doing good job maneuvering this offense hailing the ball dispersing the ball and throwing pretty well and again I can't say enough about the offensive line it's not a good job giving him protection there Dooley that infraction committed right in front of him now please 38 years old sixth oldest coach in Division one we'll talk about that more as game wears on but those seven years under Saban so productive and it doesn't hurt going up around the dad Vince Dooley early in his life second down and 12 yards to go get an action and it's Porter eddies to the 20 and Porter eyes at first down they mix in a little option game and it's very effective as that one goes for 20 and kena Pinchot shown a little guts here 6 to 202 see it's got a little bit of size he sucks it he felt a player in and gets bored of some room on the outside and green and he's heading for the end zone a touchdown saving tackle saves about the 12 yard line but a nice pickup by Porter on first down it's gonna be Jackson and he drives down to the 5 little misdirection at times he stepped one away with the other and that goes for 5 yards and right now they have Hawaii on their heels really doing that was a great play good running good place election by coach Dooley and a staff myself will doing a good job coming over from Tulane he's defensive coordinator and he's done a good job he's got that wide open multiple set attack and said he wanted to be 50/50 on offense six runs two passes thus far and it's second and goal flag thrown and I was trying to have the Jets and he shut down at the line of scrimmage you know champion only threw the ball 23 times last week if they'd like to be more balanced see which way this one's going sides on the light so they'll keep the down and move a little bit closer [Applause] June Jones an unbelievable career two-time wack coach of the year six all-americans five bull games for nine win seasons and zingy proud of ranked top 46 last eight years handoff and if Jackson stretching it Jackson's in touchdown Bulldogs on the three yard run [Music] the plug on the left side by Miller and bin Harris Jackson five carries 25 yards Porter and maintain yards on four carriers during that drive and you see Jackson would not be denied good blocking on the left side opening that gap for him giving him a cavity at the end zone and Jackson's scores giving new life good go goes Danny horn would eltechs on the extra point now about this for a start against the 20th right team in America Louisiana Tech takes the opening kickoff they drive the distance and punch it in back opener and the Bulldogs up 7-nothing [Music] 7-nothing Louisiana Tech opening drive and they punch it into the end zone they had four drives in their season opening win against Central Arkansas last week the longest was 47 yards that an extended drive is horrid l made it seven nothing he has a teed up at the 30 yard line he's got to give these guys some confidence they went through so many tough times last year maybe the worst defense in Division one and their offense spluttered as well but least on the offensive side of things they're off to a blazing start lay down up on the football and it's an onside kick and it's fielded by the Bulldogs they've got it there is a flag down that's when the Navy offsides but Rene how about rolling the dice here and trying the outside kick this early in the game will riverboat gambler attempt Chile and we'll see if he's successful he maybe we'll see what the call is that's a gutsy call against a team a high-powered offense Hawaii which scores last year 24 touchdowns in two minutes or less Frank white the lead referee hears the call [Music] [Applause] and then cheese it's usually all sides by the kicking team here it is [Applause] so they'll have to retake it you gotta love the gamble though this can Derek Dooley and he wants to make the fans proud of the effort develop an attitude and they have done it right here at the outset that was a great play a gutsy call and it did didn't work out but he goes to show you what his opponents have to be ready for this year and horaday with a good pitches offsides it was well executed and unfortunately Bulldogs who try it again but boy I tell you what that was interesting call they had the football but offsides negates that recovery so they'll back them up and they'll kick it up now from the 25-yard line Danny Moore would L seniors vote Grich Tennessee double scissor kick off guy very good place kicker as well and boy they've really been rolling the dice you know what a shrink the fear for this offense GMAT scores forty seven points per outing that's unbelievable I look at Jason rivers along with Newton too dangerous kick returners for Hawaii their special teams are also very good here's the kickback from Kordell and it's gonna be Bhutan at the 15-yard line up the gut he's to the 35 flag is thrown as he takes it across the 40 but they might be backing him up after that kickoff return [Applause] Wheldon ground with the tackle for Louisiana Tech but they will back him up so a bit the field of work with pork kohlbrenner the company [Applause] you can see the hole here at the very end you see uh you see your idea and he had a handful of number 37 that was when the call was made Hawaii to penalties three penalties 28 yards thus far the early going Ruston say Oleg was the guilty party so Hawaii will start this series from the 31 yard line Colt Brennan we talked so much about him leading up to this game all-american Heisman Trophy candidate career active leader virtually every pass in category look at the numbers look at the completion percentage he's going after his eighth straight 400 yard gain [Applause] quick-release NFL prototype quarterback we've seen how it works here in the first series and he swings it to rivers and a short game up to the 35 yard line first 15 20 plays script to talk about what what the thinking is for this Hawaii offense we'll get into that momentarily as we look at who they have up front Bryce Mullen and rivers and best are the key targets farmer won't carry it often at the running back spot upfront they love Hercules to tell a tri captain he's returning starter at that left guard spot second six after the four yard completion to River they empty the backfield now a movement and divide mess the slot receiver jumps offsides [Applause] is clearly on the Bulldog side in this one for penalties against the Rainbow Warriors early going and we still have nine minutes to go in the first quarter thankless here's they trying to script 15 to 20 plays and hit that on Thursday if you could deviate just a little bit but that's the Jean Jones on but let me get to basis second and 10 into the backfield five receivers running with pressure coming safety valve right Jackson he shut down after a short gain good pursuit over there for the Bulldogs is Josh Victorian on the stop let's take a look at this Louisiana Tech defense ten returning starters but coach Dooley said they might have been the worst defense in the country last year 119th rated and he said they needed to mix it up the skies think bring some pressure this year and they're now in a 4-3 vs. a three-four defense totally a different scheme to hit last in sacks a tackle for loss gave a 483 yards per game 42 points they can only go on 39 should be big if they stop who on the initial series three receivers left Brandon looking that way twice and it's incomplete bust it up intended for Ryan price Bullock and they'll make them put the football and that's a victory in itself big defensive effort by Louisiana Tech and you know how you play this offense you keep everything in front of you you can see the quarterback he keeps me from it next a big hit the market all this that was well time well Dan Brown the junior with a big play and Tim grassman was just the second punt of the year he had a 30 yarder in their opener dangerous punt return man [Applause] his bat deep Philip fetch get two big ones in reap one for Louisiana Tech short tip Friday a little pop on the 45:35 inside the 20 great pounds for the Warriors down to the Bulldogs 16 Louisiana Tech will get it back their defense coming up with a big stop their offense look good on their initial series and they've got the football back seven nothing Louisiana Tech in Ruston [Music] Derek Dooley said he was comfortably new the time was right to take over his head coach at Louisiana Tech and that time is right here early on seven nothing let's look at the flash drive for the Bulldogs nine plays 56 yards and I was a nice hookup with Anderson his fourth grab of this season a little quicker if you will as Spitzer on the right side nice 20 43 yards on that drive Russia and of course the last play Patrick Jackson with his second touchdown score of the season [Applause] 56 yards on that drive they'll start this drive from the 16 yard line hand it off it's Patrick Jack Jimmy breaks the tackle and move some football up to the 18 yard line a couple yards out of that play nice pursuit that time from Hawaii as Myron Newberry the corner came up in there Hawaii a team that defensively proud of their linebackers little whoop said they did the best we can already having tough times tonight there's a swing pass and catch close to the first down hauled in by Phillip Beck the junior from Crosby Texas and there's a warrior down near the line of scrimmage nice versatility my champion a time ruling right and hitting champion is three out of three thus far more he's very sharpened showing all of his skills and early going that is gonna be Keala Watson the junior defensive tackle from Oahu this is a team that has a lot of talent on that defensive line but they lost three starters to to the NFL EK acclaim of Francis and Malia Purcell both in the NFL they were third in the WAC and rush defense last year so not as much leadership and they can't afford to have too many injuries yeah they've got a lot of young guys and they got guys who can run pretty well on line backing core really good rotation they're all the linebackers and of course that's good support from the defensive secondary the problem is defensive secondary came up 29 touchdown tosses in 2006 so they need to shore that up but so far it's been kind of an interesting matchup between these two teams who would have thought at the 753 mark that the Bulldogs would be up 7-nothing in good control the game you know both teams switching through the three-four to the 4-3 and people don't follow football closely that is a huge change a completely different scheme of the way you attack things on the defensive side of the responsibility train is exactly right and it takes on a different whole new meaning the defensive ends you know but it's better against the run and I think they just want to shore up some areas and they feel like their personnel fit that 4-3 much better than last year and you know athletically they looked like they had a good defense for 2007 Watson up on his feet now we are in Ruston Louisiana Joe ia Stadium as a site it's the WAC opener for the Hawaii warriors ranked 20th in the nation in the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs alongside Renee Nadeau I'm tre vendor Hawaii coming in with her highest ranking since the end of the 1992 season and they have plans to maybe run the table this year as you look at the Louisiana Tech job they've done on their initial series 11th play already here in the first quarter on through the short champion over the middle catch me by the tight end Anthony Harrison and he has a first down up to the 37 yard line they love the tight ends Renee and this guy is versatile as any 6-3 242 and he's a junior and Frank cellphone talks so much about they're tied into picked up a blitz did a great job delivering the ball Harrison with his second grab of the season and he really could make something happen he's the fourth receiver with four intercept four receptions three touchdown crabs you see a year ago moves the sticks on first down a pitch it's Jackson and he's hammer and a flag comes in late as he loses his yardage back to the 33 new variance from his corner spots also Adam Leonard the buck linebacker got to him it's a stone wall and holding they're gonna back up Louisiana Tech Patrick Jackson as we spoke in the opening how tough he is he runs much harder than his size and you know he had 800 plus yards last year and we start up this season with a bang 120 yards in the opening but he's very very productive money on offense number 47 10-yard penalty repeat second down no there's a guilty party Harrison so you do something good you do something bad and drives the coaches crazy Harrison was a freshman all-american he made a good good grab last play and I pushes him back so all's even right now but with Jackson how he has doubled his production more than doubled last year he turns the rushing yardage and they expect a breakout here maybe a thousand yards for the junior firm Edgard Louisiana will take the penalty first down back at the 26 yard line now 20 yards to go draw play Jackson across the 30 runs over Newberry and he tips it up to the original line of scrimmage the 36 yard line Newberry was in the wrong place that's the wrong time as the senior was run over by Jackson who goes 193 pounds you know Patrick Jackson 3,000 yards in high school 58 touchdowns it's carried over he's an outstanding athlete again he runs so big he runs downhill it knows doesn't cut a lot not really fancy but to get enough coach Frank self-will talked about his skills and compared him to Milwaukee more 33 yards at thus far he loved his work ethic second down and world champion runs out of the pocket slides and he's hit as he goes down at the 42 yard line and the bleonard was licking his chops and he put a pop on the quarterback third now coming up it looks like they have Hawaii completely confused offensively really everything seems to be working for the Bulldogs champion mogul here improvises picks up a nice five six seven yards and he's done an outstanding job you don't have to win this game just the news that offense down the field and distribute the ball which he has done and no miss looks that he's got a very good job to senior on 30 carry a right looking to throw Johnson right at the stick catch me first day of Joe Anderson you know the thing that Coach Dooley said to us prior to this game was he looks accurate he plays with consistency and then two bad decisions cost him so far you've been perfect but he rolls right in out of the pocket finds Anderson for a second grab and you know Anderson gets open because he works so hard he's a very hard worker good body control good hands and he could change direction you see a lot more Joe Anderson just to grab stuff far but what a future is here in rusty all control the story for the Bulldogs and three for three now on third downs that was one of the keys tonight champion pressure coming contact for the backside he gets through the football it's intended for his fullback Dustin Mitchell and our flag comes in the late hit or was it pass interference on Mitchell mitchell was the guy that I think was roughed up [Applause] pass interference fine that's a ye where they are really on their heels right now this ye team a little bit shocked here in the early going I really did and Louisiana take put up a seven spot you know you talked about the tight ends that's the strength of this offense with Harrison Morris and Mitchell and they're all underclassmen forested Mitchell a couple of sophomores it and Harrison just a junior you can see this thing pass interference number 43 spot foul automatic first down solutely mochi spot foul and now they have to perform of hawaii's out of the field the penalties already tonight Wow and it's new he's still in a first water so but the brakes seem to be going Louisiana Tech's way and they're capitalizing on those opportunities Bulldogs at the Warriors 49 emotion the quarterbacks backup quarterback fights and Mosley takes the handoff and he's inside the 40 and that abounds near first down mostly lining up as a wide receiver he had a reception last week he's a great athlete that's 6 to 208 you know he's got a cannon for an arm he is the backup quarterback you gotta watch him but to play like that he may throw from that situation so mostly very fast good sized guys 62 208 down in the Landry high school in New Orleans have seen him play before and good strike good blocking on the edge good blocking by the wide receivers downfield allowed him especially Brian Jackson earlier on a draw play it's Jackson knifing his way inside close to the 30 comes off and right now the big guys up front doing the job Miller and Considine if the tackles Harris Roberts and Jones in the middle seven first downs for the Bulldogs none both Hawaii hua hua thought and it's gonna be tough to keep this pace going but the offensive line is doing such an outstanding job coming off with a good surge giving the running back both Porter and Jackson ample opportunity good cavities to run through Colt Brennan is not not a factor if he's not on the field they have owned his quarters we near the five-minute mark up 7 nothing and 7 zipped in the first down totals from the 35 receivers one light comes in on the near sideline Porter just has a burst the sophomore is a nice guy to have behind Jackson 128 yards protects spent for Hawaii that was a nice run by Porter right up the gut just coming back though blocking in the back on the offense number 88 ten-yard penalty from the spot of the foul your name I stand to be corrected it's 113 yards rushing thus far off its that's barring Earl Griffin from his wide receiver position well that hurts when you're dominating the offensive line between the tackles and you get a penalty there well you know I mean those things happen but I'm very impressed by the blocking both interior line and the wide receivers and of running a porter and Jackson have really impressed me so far 448 to go clock running here first quarter 7 nothing June Jones has to be wondering what's going on here his offense just one series Green out his defense has been manhandled but his team could score points in a hurry champion handoff Porter and he's dropped for a la no it's a keeper by champion a great quarterback keeper inside the 20 for a first down down to the 16 they play think that to perfection and champion who doesn't run often was effective first him and trade is no doubt in my mind that play was supposed to be a handoff and champion just he capitalized on a mismatch where a linebacker was on a wide receiver spread out and he just kept the ball I bet he was supposed to hand that ball off he saw something that he didn't think he would see and he took advantage and it was a great decision on Champions Park and a nice sell by the running back as well as Hawaii thought he had the football first down at the 16 yard line trips to the left side this time from the gun hand on Jackson inside has a scene he's in the five he's in the endzone touchdown Bulldogs [Music] [Applause] [Music] it's that handoff to Jackson Great Seal clock on the right side and a nice block down peeled by Joe Anderson just occupy two defensive back nice one by Patrick Jackson his second score of this game his third of the campaign nine carries 54 yards for Jackson couple long touchdown drives for Louisiana Tech and they're trying to shock the 20th ranked team in America a lot of football to be played but clearly this is a new team in lustin extra point it's perfect for Weddell the Derek Dooley era is underway [Music] balance up it's tough defense nearly going Jackson a couple touchdown runs Bulldogs up 5:14 [Music] it's early but Louisiana Tech doing everything they can then I got 20th ranked July in the early stages to long drives at 56 and 84 yards last one goes 11 ways for a score Patrick Jackson a couple touchdown runs Colt Brennan a boy on three offensive plays as you look at the ball control that's the way you beat Hawaii just keep the football and punching in magic Jackson with 54 yards on the ground nine total for he's doing a heck of a job last Drive 11 plays 84 yards for 21 off the clock Zach champion is doing everything right thus far everybody special teams coverage that time Alex Dempsey on the stop and there's a bulldog down at the 21 special teams would be a vital part of this game and so thus far Louisiana Tech's look very very good with that onsides kick that did work but so far they look very strong police have got our first look at Colt Brennan again he's a lot of time to work with just under four minutes to go here the first answer the Anthony Crosby from Katy Texas the injured bulldog the senior who is a big part of their defense of that Mike linebacker position doubling on special teams he had six starts last year so if your Colt Brennan out he's had some adversity last year three losses monstas to Boise State Alabama Oregon State but this is their first true adversity this year and so many high expectations I'm sure he's not going to change anything he does he's gonna play the exact exact same game no reason to make any adjustment and Derek Dooley said something as we said in the opening how he sat out the fourth quarter in six games and he sent up a lot of the first second half of the opening game this season Derek Dooley wants to see coke Brennan in uniform in the fourth quarter well he sent three things he said they got a disrupt Brennan tackle well and then red zone defense needs to be key but [Applause] we're yeah I thought it was interesting l sent me to hit the quarterback yeah you know you need to hit him it's gonna take those hits even though he may release the ball don't hit him and get a penalty but those hits will take their toll in the third and fourth quarter you also have to take your shots on the wide receivers jam them a little bit get some hits on them Koch Brennan is two out of three for seven yards along with four yards that's far below his average but yes Tech is gonna take some shots and blitzen and boy they really can't afford to lose Crosby he's quite an athlete both on special teams MVP they don't have a lot of depth at that linebacker spot they like their starters Macbeth Crosby and Harris but Chris Lowery now the senior will have to spell him at that position so Hawaii with her second series down 14 to nothing or 357 to go first quarter poor receivers and a single running back is farmer winning gets made rivers first down up to the 37 yard line ill nickel-and-dime you to death if you give them that and they'll take that every time Rivers has six grab of the season that was a timing throw is this Colt Brennan has dropped off and released the ball at before the current cut was made reception first down ere in business in this series Nolan Darby junior linebacker from Monroe Louisiana on the tackle as you look at rivers numbers he was the big play receiver last year 100 catches them first down at the 37 grand on the other side of the catch made its CJ Hawthorne and he's pushed backwards but again that intermediate route that kicks in five yards the senior a guy that had five starts a year ago and CJ Hawthorne had four grams he's from Biloxi Mississippi right down the road he's a sea receiver good sized fine 11 168 is the fastest they called him a bolt of lightning it well he gives that cushion you got it give him a little cushion because he will burn you deep with a goal fly and the gimmick will progress across the 45 so eight yards on that pickup second and short trips to one side [Applause] and a handoff on the run it's Leon right Jackson for a first down and he heard you flexing my boy's hand off it's an amazing thing when they do run the football and they don't run it often you know Jackson was a very highly recruited by Nebraska went up to Nebraska very highly recruited him he switched down to Hawaii transferred and he's gonna fill on a nice role here as a 211 pound back this get hands at 2 grams last week that was just in third called running play in the first two weeks of the college football season the others who scrambled by the quarterbacks pushed down at the 48 yard line and there's another one who played at right Jackson and he gets maybe a yard inside the 47 pray they didn't have a running play until the fourth quarter last week unbelievable and you talked about the receivers coming back last year they received the top three receivers that return accounted for 214 grabs unbelievable 14 different players cop passes in Game one Brennan will have a second down and 10 no gain on that last carry ball just shy of the Bulldogs 47 yard line here in the first corner Hinda right Jackson has a scene ATS the room to the 25 right Jackson inside the 10 he takes it to the house touchdown Hawaii a 48-yard touchdown scamper for right Jackson who coming in at no carries on the season the sophomore makes it 14-6 there was a corner blitz which alleviated one of the defensive backs with bright Jackson good vision you see if they can inside handoff right here just following the lead block or good block right there that was cell Atallah and nice run by Jackson again we showed we talked about he has that element on the ground tall one of 211 pounds and found a nice gaping hole and made the Bulldogs paper Douglas Kelly for the extra point it's good as ninety-ninth career p80 and it's 14-7 well some unexpected happenings here in Ruston first the Louisiana Tech offense dominating and then the Hawaii running game kicking into high gear whoo - it we've got a 14-7 game we had to be impressed with you know June Jones saw something there he thought he could be effective running the football yeah you know I know Colt Brennan I'm sure will loosen up a little bit but you know they're they're really loading up for that pass and leaving himself vulnerable for the run and you know that that's the thing with this with this wide open attack that he runs you know it leaves you vulnerable because we go to a dick land dying which Louisiana Tech is doing tre if you remove a linebacker and that makes you vulnerable to the run it's a cadets you Jones's [Music] beyond Jung's a guy they bring in at nickel situations but Leon right Jackson look at that 75-yard Drive two passes in three runs all by right Jackson and they finds the endzone David farmers are starting running back they also have ki Aloha Polaris he's third on the depth chart looks like a first stringer on that last Drive you see how Louisiana Tech response from that touched down by Wyatt still have a the seven-point cushion but that could evaporate with Cole brendan is hot [Music] dan Kelly from the 30-yard line 725 he picks it up close to the 30 Mike oh wow on the tackle Louisiana Tech two for two and touchdowns on their first two drives and this kid has to be brimming with confidence right now those that champion worked so very hard trains hard he's bought at his time he's made some poor decisions in the past but you see a new version of Zach champion compared to last the season last season it 2466 yards 14 touchdowns buck 80 interception he looks like he's a little more confident with his new system [Applause] [Music] on the 30-yard line they'll go with a full receiver set this time jack with cooler in the backfield over to yellow and that's a first down grab for Phillip Beck 12 yards Becca good fall camp good route learner very dependable back from Flint junior college and he runs right up the sea but that's one thing champion can do tre he throws in a tight spots and I was a very tight throw tough throw threw into coverage between and his own and and hit his mark she's running backs it's time to pull back Mitchell is back in there champion three-step drop Beck again across the 45 and a nice gain to the 48 yard line tackle made by Adam Leonard the buck linebacker Derrick Dooley is a guy that comes in with a great track record as an assistant coach and he has put the attitude into place here now it's amazing how the players have fed off his enthusiasm in his game plan have responded very well talking with him yesterday he's very enthusiastic about the commitment to Louisiana Tech from the buta teaching from the Alumni he had Karl Malone at Terry Bradshaw come back and its share their experiences here and you know tre I can that can lead a whole lot to really really have a big impact on these young men look at the 38 year olds resume how about this SMU LSU and then of course with Sabin in the NFL with the Dolphins growing up around football lives and breeds it and he thought this was a perfect situation during the way he can recruit the area and the commitment to making his football program that carry goes for nothing a loss on 3rd and 2 for Jackson has two straight runs and Hawaii shuts it down so one quarter in the books from Ruston Louisiana and a bit of a surprise is the 20th ranked team in America on the road and they've got a dog fight on their hands Louisiana Tech 14 to 7 second quarter is coming up from Joe I a stadium in Ruster 14-7 Louisiana Tech leads Hawaii here at Joe high a stadium in Ruston Louisiana as we start the second quarter Louisiana Tech stopped by the Hawaii defense they had the punt team out there Chris Cagle to punt it away and back deep for Hawaii is Myron Newberry inside the 15 yard line Cagle the WAC Special Teams Player of the Week last week six points and an average of forty nine point eight got a Pitta back high kick a beauty we're very called for the fair catch you let it bounce inside the five and falled down at the one maybe back-to-back black Special Teams Player of the way that's a good start mr. Cagle won't say what he really placed that ball well great special teams getting down and gave that puck gave the gunner is enough time to get out of town it really pinnacle innings way back we see how the call begins again though you know judo scripts the first 15 to 20 but if you want if that is going out the window with the way things have unfolded thus far good point 54 yard punt by Kegel pins him at the 1 Hawaii with a touchdown drive thanks to the running of right Jackson and they have David farmer back into the running back spot with four receivers shotgun from the end zone [Applause] it's rivers push down get supply he could go get get the corner turn tripped up at the 45-yard line tackle made by Antonio Baker the free safety or he's gone they are so quick strike Renae you blink and they put a big play on you there's a lot of NFL scouts here and they're watching this guy could be a third or fourth round pick runs a deep crossing pattern right here right in front he hit a little separation from the defensive back good block there and had this pack would not been made we were kicking an extra point so that's how quick coke credit can bust out of the shadows of the goalpost 5 for 6 with Brian's 79 yards first down at their 48 yard line just starting the second quarter pressure coming sets up the screen it's dropped farmer the fullback couldn't hang on it would have been his first catch of the year when that it was set up perfectly for a big gainer and that's a credit wheezing attack for acne quickly but yeah you tell you he caught that ball he had a little Running Room and Koch brothers just trying to use all his weapons to give himself some breathing room and get back and sync on what he feels most comfortable doing [Applause] at 47 to that point just 48 yards Louisiana Tech owned the football possession it kept it away Hawaii offense second down over the middle and that catch is made in the Tuck Graham hauled in by CJ Hawthorne for a short gain to the Bulldogs 46 yard line CJ Hawthorne had four grams against Northern Colorado has got two thus far you know he's it doesn't cross the intermediate kind of things but he's the guy that could really bust it open for a big play because of his blazing speed it's a tough kid he's 511 168 a converted defensive back so likes they hit people and a perfect for that crossing route threw down at four trips left this time running going right side Oh wanna catch his popcorn Kazik for the first damn that was his single coverage on a quarterback and that was a blitz coming Hawaii picked it up pretty well and I just threw it up and let him make the kids against bosses single coverage nice coverage on that play but you just can't throw it off all he really puts his receivers in great position to catch the football 10-yard pick up to Jones and company driving again trying to get the tying score here early in the second quarter two receivers to each side this time Brandon has plenty of time steps up going for the end zone rice ball on any of the shoots up we're in Ruston Louisiana it's the wack opener for Hawaii and Louisiana Tech and an interesting start tre bender alongside Renee Nadeau Louisiana Tech too long touchdown drives the season 14-nothing advantage Hawaii gets in the end zone on a touchdown run which focuses a lot of people now it's starting to pull the football world trying to even things up Nicole Prentiss is capable of just busting I would talked about hey he's got this rich strike offense he's skinny that we're talking about runs this offense how tough it is to defend against because it's three parts offensive line wide receivers the quarterback other there's Wilkins in sync the second attempt flag is thrown and they're gonna blow this play dead the set up little slip screen for rivers on the left side but flags all over the place tre you know each the left tackle in this offense the offensive line calls they're blocking up front you know for each and every play Colt Brennan reads to free safety that's how he he knows who to throw to and each receiver has two or three patterns options either run on for each pattern so you know I guess one way to stop it if you can't or slow it down applicant hits on a wide receivers and no more bailouts and thrill Whitson sic between Koplin and the wide receivers seven of ten for 96 yards starting to heat up champion can't play much better at the quarterback spot on the other sideline second and 15 high snap pulls it in the middle Bryce Mullen inside the 25 minute Sun comes flying in the middle of the field in the secondary as he's close to a first down somebody's chinstrap was tossed near where the ball is wow it's been physical down there Rene and Brennan goes to the second and third receiver so quick I guess the thing is if you need to get pressure on him and you know that helps a little bit if you if you if he goes to his third or fourth option that slowing him down and and they can't get to us quickly but you know you need to cut off shut off the first and second down receivers Rho 1 a 2 on third downs third a 2 here Brenden the keeper and a push down down to the 15-yard line you know he doesn't run it often but he's a very good athlete as he had six rushing touchdowns a year ago and they feel like they can get something done in the run again he's second on a team last year with 366 you're on Kai's snappy adjust to it looking for a hole doesn't run very much but he's 201 pound so he's he's not a skinny little guy he's got some meat of his bones and runs pretty well a pretty good vision as a runner and they showed some option there they had right Jackson in the backfield and he opted to keep it and a good decision first down at the Bulldogs 15 seven threes anatec second quarter 13th kona to 100 in the clap catch made and it's hot corner this close to the first down stick at the six yard line coming over there Chris Lowry the Mike linebacker from Mississippi they had going right at Tony Moss number one who drew at the best cover corner for the Bulldogs and they're going right at him taking it right out of it he's having a heck of a game he's having a tough time over there in a corner one up with these receivers June Jones expecting big things Tony Moss there's a look at the star in the backfield free picks big play corner originally signed with Wisconsin out of high school or happy to have been rusted the graduate student from st. Louis Missouri first down after that catch by Hawthorne by the five yard line Brennen trying to tie things up inside handoff right jacks with nothing doing a wash back to the seventh they have done a great job between the tackles Renee that was Ramon Randall the freshman defensive tackle he was there he crashed in and split the double-team and a nice defensive effort here giving up the right Jackson they've really had this figured out also coming up from his corner position was Antonio Baker on a blitz you know one receiver we haven't heard his name called davon best of these hallways yet and the three top receivers split to the left side best price Mullen rivers second down and goal from the six running looking that way catch me by Christ Mullen can't shake the tackle and he dives in head to the two yard line that's a heck of a defensive play down there made by Louisiana Tech as Josh Victoria just hung on for dear life when I was tough but he's just you know you see cope rent and that's his first option real quickly as a single Kuragin he just holds on for dear life and wasted a Calvary to arrive which did eventually residents of st. Rose Louisiana they make him the Rainbow Warriors work very hard at this Drive in the red zone which is usually a PC kick these guys there they go from the three farmer is the running back brennon option keeper touchdown Hawaii and we're an extra point from being tied and the thing you've got to be impressed with is the way they have changed their stat they have mixed things up here with the running game and it's been effective it's kept the Bulldogs off guard yes and also credit the defense of Louisiana Tech on what they have done and maybe causing Hawaii to change their style a bit coke Brennan is not a running thread per se but he scored a touchdown had a nice we talked about that do with just a little bit but it's his new-found a good job blue freedom improvising a little bit as a runner in now dr. power let's go Kelly's extra point squares things at 14 impressive drive for Hawaii normally a quick strike offense this time 10 plays 96 yards and the eighth career touchdown run for Brennan 14:14 in Ruston [Music] 14 straight points from Hawaii to tie things here in Ruston Louisiana after a quick start from the Bulldogs coke bleonard a touchdown run to even it and four teams look at the scoring drives [Music] Jackson a pair of returns for 41 yards thus for the game in 85 yards officially on that story drive as Kelly kicks it away and it'll be Jackson a couple yards deep in the end zone and he is seen across the 30 that Jackson spins and he's down near the 40 yard line Jackson very good and the kick returner game set the team all WAC has a kick returner a year ago let Tech in all-purpose yardage give him three for 80 yards and kick returns we're talking about Patrick Jackson high so versatile has a receiver runner and a kick return specialist he touched he does it all and no matter when you give him the ball great run he follows the blocking good Ally for him to run through and good cut back here gets the most out of this run good field position shrinks the ball tricks the afield for Zach champion they come out with four receivers this time from the 40-yard line champion hands it off to port quarter slams it into the middle line for a couple yards in that sense as Jackson will get a breather after that big kick return it's nice to know you have a guy like Porter and it's very effective just five nine when he ran for 464 yards a year ago 178 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries against Utah State we did that game trade average over seven yards for tody at 65 yards against Boise State he can explode he's got a good body leader advised me a little bit of Ryan moats who's a second round draft choice for the Philadelphia plays for their game in seven at the 43 the swing pass out of the backfield Porter keeps his feet he has a first down and out of bounds at the Hawaii 49 yard line that is the credible balance for a guy that if most players go down after that play what a pirouette move here as he nice touch with the hands here but this is unbelievable balance because he keeps it going who's keeps moving forward collects himself and Marty is the total package might pick 591 it's the most visibilities look at you Jones defense has really struggled they have not had the answers and against the balanced attack of Louisiana Tech he's got him thinking here's a handoff to Jackson he's back in a flag comes in after the short two yard gain to the 46 yard line Salmonella minion the Mac linebacker on the tackle and the point of hawaii's would face mass number 67 on the defense that's Michael laughs ila the three or two pound defensive tackle seven penalties against the Rainbow Warriors Jackson with a hundred and thirty four total yards fifty three rushing eighty-one on return and we still haven't reached the halfway mark good block right here as you see he's got a handful as he carried a couple of would-be tacklers with herman woo and that's one of their leaders up front his 24th straight start man that's a costly one first down and three now at the Hawaii 41 yard line take handoff quarterback keeper champion and he spun down close to the first down stick file a lie Lee the junior from Honolulu with the stop and he plays inside Riley but he could play on defense event very quick 6-1 to 92 not built for defensive em he's got good quicks good first step and he stopped champion from any first down territory and for champion G's have to be impressed with how composed he is good decisions I really feel like this coaching staff French self for Derek Dooley and company that really instill some confidence this young man really has to be proud of what his offense is done champion swing passes Brian checks it Danny s enough for a first down as he slams his way inside the 35 broke through the final tackle of Solomon Alabamian to pick up some extra yardage down to the 33 6 yard pickup why does his play work number 18 she wants to block good Beck right there allows him just on the outside edge and he doesn't make that block he'll get tackled for a loss Oh Phillip back number 82 with a nice block on the hitch this is why it's so vital to you wide receivers to be good blockers Jackson will get a breather now as they go with a three receiver set and a single running back Porter in motion mostly addicted to him they pitch it to Porter and maybe got a yard and that was well sniffed out as Newbery the quarter didn't fool him nor did it fool Carl Noah the defensive end and Newberry would good get some speed for four you can see they just trying to do Lu basically a naked poot right here but that's uh did fool anyone and I guess just wanna smell that they could run that play again so just kind of spread about and they can make the defense aware of cognizant of that place second and nine at the 32 yard line champions only right away the pressure grows on the one and it's back and they'll call that a catch the juggle it it appears momentarily but they give him the catch at the 26 of Hawaii couple yards shy of the first down Desmond Thomas number 24 just missed it good throw on the outside and could reach right there by Thomas could either batted away or have been thrown a little more inside Drake good up an interception going the other way and see why they're excited about back two years at Blinn junior college in Texas won a national title there first year player Division one looking good and puts it Zack champion my goodness he that's bed brilliance in the first half and be better than that and it hasn't been the long pass play he has just done the job on the out patterns the crossing routes and he has Hawaii the coaches challenge on the play whether the ball was caught before the way out and this might be the juggling I mentioned earlier Renee it looked like he may have juggled it a little bit before dragging the feet you see if what the official calls it but up here it was it was tough to see if it was a catch if he had possession at the same time he had his feet dragging June Jones and staff are right there I guess they feel like they have nothing to lose at the 7:21 7:22 go it's been a long week for Hawaii in any time you come over to mainland it's tough let's take a look at the play again Beck to juggle the gist tad there what's gonna be tough to see if we had possession by ruling of the official if he had possession he you know it's tough it's that toe might have been right on the white the referee was right there the fish was right there I'll go see if I was guessing I would say that I could reverse this because the Fisher was right there go inconclusive evidence take that to turn it around the other way which is challenged continues to 722 go here in the second quarter think about champion in the past he's been a pocket passer and throw a tight spot which he does so that will set up the Bulldogs third and three at the Hawaii 26 yard line you know even if they come away with any type of points in this Drive it's a it's a plus and a positive because that answer the Hawaii touched now with some points coming back to the big drive it shows the confidence that this team is really good how much right there that's Derek doing this loose snap is really instill some confidence in this group Tech is three for four on third downs third and free at the 26 champion the long Kim pressure coming grows then the flat dinkum played he wanted Brian Jackson and it was broken up and that was Newberry the corner they got a hand on champion start standing strong at that that pressure he stood strong there do he was going to get suppressor here for he kind of live up to look at the dry is the ball arrived at the same time that Allen June sorry of Newberry yet so this brings out Danny and Boydell this will be his first field goal attempt this year his career long is 46 out of the hole in putter Kegel this will be a 43-yarder from the right hand last year he was eight of 12 his second team on whacked two years ago chance to give tech the lane samples good on the way and it is no good short and a little bit left and Louisiana Tech comes up empty on that position and fortune as we said that Louisiana Tech could come up with some reward for their efforts in this Drive but uh we're all even 7:10 to go before half-time in Ruston Louisiana special teams a big story protect last week it comes short on this field goal try [Music] the Warriors offense starting to heat up we're tied at 14 7/10 to go 2nd quarter from Ruston Louisiana the first track went 2 yards they had 99 and 75 yard scoring drives as they start this series first down run the 26 yard line Brennan put over the middle of the rivers and he has a first down up to the 37 yard line the long road trip has begun for Hawaii back to the mainland a 2 game 12 day road swing and it starts with this trip here's how they got here Honolulu to Houston spent a couple days there in to Monroe where they spent last night drove over here about a 40-minute drive and you can see how the rest of the week plays out [Music] 8150 do I tell you what a time note that the nose that takes his toll on you how your body adjust get by and that type of thing and you know Louisiana Tech I think toyed with the idea of schedule his game at 11 o'clock in the morning which would've been like 6 o'clock in the morning in front of wine they've gotten better on the road and that sure helps me up guys like Chang and of course Colt Brennan but look at the six seasons before June Jones gets some great NFL caliber players in and the nine seasons after still under 500 but last year there were nine and three and this year they feel like they can win all the road games he's averaged eight wins he absorbed his team with only 12 in 98 mine in for his first season the best turnaround in NCAA history and he's done a great job at this building now planet fumbles the football it's loose and Louisiana Tech has it at the 25 yard line he just watched the handle they're gonna win a fumble and it's recovered by the Bulldogs then McGill T the senior and an unforced error and you know it's sticky it's humid that he just lost a handle and that's just that was like a sack with a fumble would be guilty good pressure you know Louisiana Tech returns ted starters on defense a know how to playing good pressure on the Gildan he was one of them returning from last season and big play there gives the offense idea field position is like the curry chance to go ahead now to missing on a field goal attempt champion hands it off to Jackson kind of picking his wheat or weaving his way ahead and not much there couple yards maybe down to the 24 yard line now laugh i la was in the middle of it both Brennan loosening the handle and that sets up the Bulldogs Jackson 13 totes 57 yards seven takeaways already that was the big story that took four short drives against Central Arkansas last week special teams and they can turn it over that sent him up second down and eight swing pass top five checks it inside the 20 and Leonard gets to him and Newberry and he's knocked down just shy of the first down at the 18 nice touch in that pass from champion of Jackson and they were in sync just where it needed to be thrown allowed him enough time to turn a feeling game near the first net surgery see a nice ther touch with champion drops back just eyeing Jackson on the back for Vice little play and Jackson games by see George's up with your salary of a first down but Jackson the fill of all receiving get returns and at 22 catches a year ago seven of them went through scores on third down and two and straight ahead it's Porter breaks it Porter to the end zone touchdown Tech [Music] [Music] it's been the Jackson and Porter show and champion has been perfect all in the game at quarterback 20 of 14 Bulldogs this was Barry Sanders lang as you can see zipped through the hole just nice cut against the grain it just runs away from the would-be tacklers he's now has six carries for 55 yards in Porter just an outstanding job and also yards after contact that's a mark of a good runner his second touchdown run this season extra point from the four would L is through there and the Louisiana Tech offense continues to roll [Music] Porter the sophomore from Baton Rouge finds the endzone the whole team played with a lot of confidence against the 20th ranked team of the nation back after this [Music] Bulldogs up in front 21 14 as horrid L kicks it off it's fielded by one of the up packs for Hawaii rash since the telly and the native of Oahu takes it out to the 31 yard line and that's where the Warriors will go to work Derek Dooley has pushed all the right buttons here in the first half to get a touchdown run from Daniel Porter from 18 yards out to take a 21-14 lead three plays 26 yards after the Brennan fumble and again keeping Hawaii off-balance the passing of champion the short routes and then mixing in Jackson importer in the running game that's been the secret to success so far that starting field position for Hawaii in the game as they start this drive from the 31 yard line four receivers will be left vesties knocked backwards try to make something happen and he adds up to fairly getting back to the line of scrimmage there's a touchdown by quarter to give tech the lead but after the play let's take a look Renee and you can see right here the defensive back just frustration as Gerard Lewis Gerard Lewis takes it out on the runner Porter that's the long trip frustration Hawaii is not used to finding themselves in a position down as we approach the halfway mark here and this is frustration right on Hawaii very tired team and that playing is sinking hoping something could turn around this game and up to right Jackson maybe a yard up to the 32 yard line and the fans really appreciate the defensive effort from the Bulldogs and you know it's hot out there if it's a different kind of heat when its heat and humidity and you're coming off perfect temperatures on the islands this is not football weather exactly and Hawaii is not ready for this are not acclimated to this type of heat and humidity I think it's taking its toll on them right now and a baby in the process melt out few yellow but they have to overcome visit it we want to come away with their second win of the season 39 rena trying to keep the drive going rivers he cannot break the tackle and that's Weldon Brown and that was one of the big keys Julie talked about they got him tackle better they got to teach the fundamentals have had a tackle that's the play that normally goes for big yardage and they forced the 410 and that's what happened you know he throws in space isolation and goes we receivers you see break that initial tackling and off to the races and he broke that tackle tray he was off to the races as something at Louisiana Tech has done very well and worked on at this past week on tackling and keeping everything in front of him Tim Grasso on the field to puck the football well Hawaii is first gonna take a timeout with 316 to go in the second quarter they have one remaining [Music] this is a an amazing effort for a team that last year struggled so much we saw him on a couple occasions there were three and ten last year one and seven in the WAC worst season since joining the conference in 2001 but you get a head coach in here with the philosophy and he's made him believe I mean they really have come out believing they're gonna win this football game and Derek Dooley has come from winning programs you know he coached at LSU and add a national champion in with the Miami Dolphins he had a good experience there with Nick Saban of courses I'm sure he talks with his dad vince dooley all of time and you know he brings his winning attitude this new approach is fresh approaches hands-on approach you know and I think it's what the tech program needed lobbies players he obviously is that champion has bought into this he's a wholly different player that he was last year look at this the punt team has gone back to the sideline he'll go for it on fourth down and one at their own 40 and June Jones rolling the dice and if they don't make this obviously great field position for the Bulldogs now tech with all the time now so a little cat-and-mouse game between the two coaches there's timeout used by the Bulldogs fourth and one at the 40 this brings back the old Al Davis days with the Raiders going deep in your own territory we talked about Derek Dooley and at 39 years old the attitude he has brought here to Rustin and he is one of the four that got a coat a victory in their debut game yeah you know and the other ones Randy Shannon at Miami costs a beat Washington last week 31 to 3 took a beating from Oklahoma Derek Dooley of course won last week doing a pretty good job here jet jet izinski did hedak win last week against Wake Forest and he was the offensive coordinator for Green Bay Packers against him his offensive line of hit assisting head coaches someone at two tech Bulldogs with recognized Jack Bicknell is now in Boston Calhoun played collegiately and Tory Calhoun is the first graduate from air force to be the head coach there he was the offensive coordinator to the use of pencils more down in one after the tech timeout Hawaii this bill appears they want to go for it from the 40-yard line four receivers over the middle rivers can't come up with it they give it up on down will that gamble come back and fight him late in the game we'll find out [Applause] honestly Kok Brennan looking for his second or third receiver as he goes through his progressions and put the ball right where it needed to be between in a very tight spot to play the defensive backs receiver couldn't hold on to the June Jones has to be very frustrated his neck hardly ever finds himself in this situation as we approach the three minute mark and the Bulldogs have to feel shrunk for them about the 40 yard line rick field position for his that champion this late in the half to take a gamble like that the dogs a chance to get some more points now go hand wrapped in Jackson they try to strip the ball free it does come free it's out of Bounce did they rule that play dead they did at the line of scrimmage it was stripped out of there at the last moment and it's a loss of a yard on the run and the thing is the bread butter for the Bulldogs is the running game and mattre Jackson was that zone stretch here trying to find a gap in Hawaii did a good job filling those gaps and not allowing him to get in the open at all and you know but the things in adults Zach champion is really not going downfield vertically but he's got a very effective job running this off or during the game for Jackson's second or 11:00 at the Hawaii 41 he has managed this game as well as you can at that quarterback spot [Music] from the gun as time over the middle let's take him up with it he was bunked by the strong safety patek no flag room that was a closely garden plans champion died out a long distance we just talked together 20 birth but looks like the defensive back might have gotten there I said here before he was going for the ball though people I don't know the contact was there though that's that's a tough call but it's gonna be a third at 11:00 we're Louisiana Tech 220 to go first time this bill won't feel good if they don't make something here back is in motion champion and it's the play they're trying to set up a screen in the flat for Joe Anderson and that play never materialized just look like a jumbled set over there and it's fourth down Hawaii ran a stuck just now curling the defensive tackle on the outside to bring up the defensive end inside that use he screws up your offensive blocking schemes and it just have to adjust run away and that made Zach champion release the ball move look for the new one too so they fail to capitalize on stopping Hawaii on fourth down they'll have to punt the football and Kegel does have a chance to pin him deep again he's already pinned about the one and that was assaulted in a 99 yard drive that was that 52 yard kick you see there [Applause] and now the officials blowing whistles 17 Tiger Kelly then event idea here back you're a punt team back five yards gives you a better chance to pin him you know he's got the leg he had a 52-yard he had a 56 yarder last year and he's got great placement on his kicks good height allows his gunner is to get down and get in position to feel the ball and down it near the goal line Kevon vest is back at the 10-yard line for Hawaii anytime to work with the football back here high end over and punt marrakech being called for best makes it and the 13 yard line so hawai'i has turned it over on a football turned it over on four downs and now they'll work against Derrick Dooley's team deep in their own territory at the 14th [Music] it's been an interesting half Draenei you know they two yards in a pond couple touchdowns and then when they give it up it turned it over the last two possessions but very inconsistent when you talk the white yeah Copeland really looking a shell of himself where he's been in the past all the records he stood up and you know credit Louisiana Tech with the schemes of had also some drops and and coke Brennan just has really had a tough go I think cool if you fess on the catch who get out of bounds just shy of the 20 yard line pickup of seven yards there and this is a you know this fits right into their style two minutes is plenty of time to work with for this Hawaii offense they're not phased one bit but we talked about a 24 of touchdowns last year where two minute drives or less so uh well he great works not to get it drive expertly and this is plenty of time for Hannigan 121 takes to go only one big situation two rivers the others the short variety he's completed 14 balls in 19 attempts tonight second down in fuel there's a deep ball rivers goes up and gets them across the 45 dragging tacklers to hold on territory to the 48 yard line puck about a long and lean target at six - and he just keep kept elevating to get to the football they runs that skinny posted great release here and that ball was thrown right where it needed to be right in the middle and good chance he's got blazing speed for for speed and he couldn't you could expect to be playing on Sundays he had 40 catches against Arizona State bad six catches tonight planet is trouble this time and he goes down at the line of scrimmage and that is win Harris the will linebacker two-time academic all whack but he's a leader at that line back to fight at 12 tackles last week he led the team in ninety and 2006 with 95 stops and you can see that Koch Brennan just is trying to run and make something happen here and good play by the defense got the bottle up and didn't allow the receivers to defeat my second intent has time over the middle knocked away Walden Brown the nice defense there as it was intended for rivers Brown has really played a solid game he's been flying around the football has been in the passing rains here's another one great wake on this ball by Weldon ground he played this about as well as you could play it get this free hand his inside hand for you his hand on the position of the wide receiver battered away that's about as good as you could play it to the quarterback position third and ten warriors three of five on third downs tonight [Music] [Applause] rivers he's close Antonio Baker the free safety knocked him out but that extra effort if the end got on the first down inside the 39 yard line Maslow Hitchin going and he caught the ball and turn up field quickly but that was just a nice delivery and they just gave a little too much cushion to the wide receivers guarding against something deep and you had when you do that tre you have to give something up and don't give up some first downs which they just meant seven tackles for Baker seven catches now for Rivers Bay has put up some monster numbers he did it in the ball game as you mentioned against the ASU may be the same canaanites tonight first down at the 38 all kinds of time for Greta now the pressure comes now he's into trouble it's back to the line of scrimmage he was dead to rights about four times there and got something out of the play second now coming up and he looks a little bit like a ping pong ball to that now the way he's bouncing around here you know maybe I'm a la Fran Tarkenton you just can't get him escape ability and great balance from a quarterback situation is lucky didn't fumble the ball but good heads-up play by cope running and a timeout is called with 54 seconds to go second and 10 coming up for the Warriors uses his hand to keep his balance going and what tell you what he's a he's a tough cookie I love that hair stop it oh he uh he had the joy that he had the dreads that he was in sync with his wide receivers because they all have dreadlocks he cut those off dyed the hair blonde and he has the islands died on the right side he'd steal over the black in the back part of the hair there on the entire right side it's the Hawaiian Islands he's a fashion player go Big Island of Hawaii and then you see Oahu there if you go a little bit further down the scalp I think one eye isn't that the Garden Island you know I hate to be critical Trey but I got to tell you if you put a little blue in there for the ocean that's what we need you know a little color that is a fantastic part of the world I'll tell you what what a beautiful area the Hawaiian Islands and of course the reigning Hawaii Bowl champs after meeting Arizona State 4124 the holidays second down and ten he's got a lot of pressure hit five times tonight [Applause] design line pattern guess who rivers to the s 31 and you don't start focusing in on your your go-to guy and right now he's bread and butter in that passing game and you have to watch him he did run that out pattern but he'll go out and up he's the former high school Hawaii high school sprint champion and we say he's got blazing speed in the four-four range so you know you have to keep everything in front of you but they'll pup and go with him and rivers turn about the field for out nothing that's what they'll forget for six 96 yards passing it's not been his AGame here in the first half but still has a chance to get into halftime with a tie game on third down this has a first down inside the 25 rated just enough space to get the stick and the clock will stop momentarily with the moving of the chains 42 seconds to go those out patters by Brennan are really good throws that's a tough throw to make right on a target as he finds messes probably his favorite and most dangerous receiver and start to clock under 40 seconds to go now from the Louisiana Tech yard-line [Applause] ready left side go into brace bullet he was wide open he couldn't haul it in let him a little bit too much he could only get his right hand on it second down fresh mother running that corner pattern from his war I position he had a touchdown last week 14 yards every time he touched the ball but boy once what weapons can run a diamond - Jones is going to have a lot to say at halftime number one how could his defense slow down the Bulldogs number two they got to take care of the football running Todd men see double a record in a 28 consecutive games with 200 yards plus photography Nexus W I do and in 10 to 25 Brennan reversed Roxy that was one of those slip screens that he took his eye off the ball there's a lot of traffic in that area very unlike the Rainbow Warrior receivers to be dropping this many passes and Polk running has put it right on a spot I mean it's right there and healthy penny drops very unusual third and ten rivers has been the go-to target eight catches 129 yards which is 25 seconds sweat in the second quarter you can get 21 it through the matchups here as they can you five receivers you look for our four receivers matchup problems the safety they've done a good job on through downs pressure coming Raymond saxx back at the 32 yard line mark Dillard from his strong safety spot McGill twas in there as well there's a penalty flag down sorry 9:00 morning I'm already an attack so the sack stands back to the 31 and they'll force the field goal attempt push 2p idiots fired up on the sideline and Mark Dillard who is a running back here in both 405 had 672 yards raised the role of sports safety got a great job with a big sack now Hawaiian with field goal attempt dan can't lay through 49 yards of blocks it's picked up by Tech with the football it's just victorian and he's out of bounds at the hawaii 43 as we reach half times it is fired effort for the home team here's the look at the special teams play special teams such a vital part of this and good penetration by the Bulldogs blocked the ball and almost tritanus into points as the clock expired had it not been to great effort here the same a touchdown saving tackle by the kicker it would have been kicking at two point and Bulldogs are going in 14 points Dominique Foust the freshman from Athens Georgia gets the block Victoria the recovery and at halftime 21 14 coach Dooley joining us now and coach you have to be so pleased with what you seen out there we played hard and we got 30 minutes left there's a lot of football they're a great football team but the kids are playing hard we had an opportunity right before the half didn't take advantage of it but we got to keep pouring talked a little bit about that champion how he's managed this game he's done a great job he's throwing the ball well he's running the offense well and he needs to do it two more quarters coach thank you all right talk to you later on as this team is a really inspired right now you mentioned champion 11 of 14 for 82 yards and really managing I think managing the game is the important thing yeah that I papi numbers trade with a really impressive attendance but effective you know when the thing is that he's he's dispersed the ball to the receivers and Daniel Porter and Patrick Jackson that that allow standing job became a lot of critical defensive line have given him time he has not had pressure much and has not been sacked so offensive line has got a great job so tech jumps on Hawaii early couple touchdown runs to seesee 14 dumping lead and the Bulldogs with a new brand of football and they have the 20th ranked team on the ropes here in Ruston Louisiana brennon the Heisman Trophy candidate has his hands full great balance on offense for the bold 2114 tit takes the lead into the locker room in Ruston and upset potentially in the making here in Ruston Louisiana Louisiana Tech leads 20th ranked Hawaii 21 to 14 and when you consider that this is a game that was won last year by Hawaii 61 to 17 a lot of the same players are back this surprises a lot of people Renae but you were impressed with what you heard from coach Dooley this week I really was and you know preparation breeds success and you can tell that this team is well drilled by the coaching staff and they prepare for this game and you know they don't make a lot of mistakes that champion is having a bust out kind of game he's managing this team and you know the thing is that don't change anything for the second half the offensive line is playing very very well as that champion is playing well the running backs Porter and Jackson very impressive but the defense is doing a pretty good job you know they're around they're hitting two receivers which I need to do they're getting the Dinks and the dunks on coke Brennan and we said those hits will take their toll in the third or fourth quarter but Hawaii can change things the correctable mistake they can get back in this game and I expect him to do so well what Tech has done offensively is what he wanted to do throughout the course of the year balance on offense when you get champion throwing the ball effectively you know Jackson is already there and Porter helps it out that's tough to prepare for and defensively the Warriors have had some troubles also you know the Warriors have given themselves problems with the penalties and it dropped passes and things like that we remember tre this team this game is composed of offense defense and special teams and Louisiana Tech is definitely ruled in a special teams department Patrick Jackson outstanding job returning kicks and that last field goal block that was vital it's really gonna really propel these guys that come back really strong and believing in themselves for the third quarter well we know about Hawaii may be the most dynamic offense in college football look at Louisiana Tech last week and then what they've done tonight they have almost come up with similar numbers in just one half of football against the Hawaii defense remember that was third in the WAC and rushing defense a year ago so they obviously have a renewed confidence and they've got a couple veteran offensive tackles that are paving the way and I think that that offensive line has done a great job it has spilled over the confidence as well to the other players and and the thing is that you know they've stepped up to the challenge so why a team and you know they could have gone in and said we're gonna give it our best shot hope something comes out but you know the feeling amongst these players and coaches is that we are in a field to win we gonna win we're not just playing this game we can win and right now they're leading Hawaii and a very impressive showing okay but we see Colt Brennan before light up teams in a hurry for five consecutive drives for scores remember Heisman Trophy candidate they are capable of putting big points on the board in a hurry and they're only down by seven despite their woes in the first half just look back on last week six touchdown passes for and one quarter he can line it up if those receivers begin to hold on to those passes they are getting separation from the defensive backs you see this court turn around a little bit again he'll make some adjustments as they go in but so Louisiana Tech with coke Brent and Wow he can have a bust out second half it's a lot of football yet to be played surprising first half here Ruston Louisiana a halftime show continues it's Louisiana Tech in front of Hawaii 21 14 and Louisiana Tech's offense balance their defense stout and they have a 21-14 lead as we roll on here halftime in Ruston Louisiana when 8th ranked Hawaii on the ropes let's take a look first half highlights they play right here by Patrick Jackson a long driving driving it's his second touchdown score this season nice run here by Jackson once again in his second score the game is thundered of the campaign Jackson has been a terror on kick returns and running a ball down right Jackson outstanding job here and he just runs away from the would-be tacklers Hawaiians a rare sight here coke Brendon breaking the score here with the touchdown run not with his arm with his legs and then a nice well together picks up the ball ideal opportunity and Louisiana Tech's capitalize on this nice run by Porter good cutback good book and field running they make Hawaii pay for that error this was a little nudge at the end and a blocked field goal at the end of the second quarter almost turned into points but if nothing else it really propelled Louisiana Tech going into the half time to come out really excited in the third quarter Dominique foul stuff blocking that kick the freshman stepping up in a total team effort from Derek Dooley and his team takes a touchdown advantage into the locker room remain interesting or visit Hawaiian tale don't come are you ready for the speed the lack opener for the Warriors the Bulldogs and Louisiana Tech surprising so far up by a touchdown as we start the third quarter let's take a look first at the first half stats and look at the rushing yardage they've done the job with Jackson and Porter great job up front with the offensive line is open some gaping holes for Porter and Jackson and that the penalties really a factor in this was some constantly ones for Hawaii this seven really heard them at different stages really have and you know the thing is that's been to think that the Louisiana Tech has capitalize on these opportunities and made Hawaii big on the mistakes they've had that's sack to that that turned into a fumble Louisiana Tech jumped on that opportunity with Porter on a touchdown scamper so so far the Bulldogs have been looking to make able to Sunshine's and if not just that busy day college football today and some games of interest in the WAC as you look down the left-hand column Fresno State almost pulled it off using a double overtime to Texas A&M and how about Washington over Boise State who ran the table last year in capture - so many fans Hawaii there's another reason they believe this is their year they think they could be this year for some state well you know right now Boise State loses today and right now you look at the scoreboard and Louisiana take us up by seven points is there a new sheriff in town nothing to lack we'll find out in a couple of quarters Oklahoma rolls Nebraska had a battle off Wake Forest and you just better beware week in week out we saw with Appalachian States you see it with you know programs that don't receive a lot of recognition within their conference and it's different from year to year and obviously it's gonna be different this year in the West really is and I you know these teams are pretty well you know even at the top and Louisiana Tech has really raised their game quite a bit they gonna be along the Elite at least thought of regardless what happens in this game because they've really played well and whatever however they come out of this game they come out of the short end the first half is shown what they can do and I think they'll be a force to be reckoned with Louisiana Tech before--this all said done Hawaii is capable of anything putting 40 points on the scoreboard in the port okay I'm gonna have to ask you now your Hawaii you've you've done it year in and year out with June Jones with the same style how much do you deviate from your D plan they mixed in the run a little but they're pretty effective with it as you look at what they've done tonight 11 rushes of the football I think you get back to the past and I think it's gonna work you know the thing is that they've had so many dropped passes they've been so open receivers on coke Brennan has delivered the ball right there but Hawaii has dropped quite a few passes I would count five or six if not more and if those passes had been caught who knows the penalties have also been costly and I think they correct those mistakes and Hawaii's right back in the game and I don't think I don't think you changed anything from there anymore 1l has it teed up big special teams play a blocked field goal getting some momentum here as they start the third quarter Hawaii we get the football first big boot from Warwick L may be moved on from the three yard line up the middle boots on across the 30 and tackle at the 31 yard line Boyd Morgan Jr from Louisiana Grambling transfer on the stuck and you see a nice run back here special teams gizmos shot the arm they opened the third quarter and this is exactly what Koch Brennan and company needed a cold front an 18 out of 26 but 203 yards his favorite receiver eight for rivers for 129 to the first there you see the numbers at the bottom that is not a good half I know people see that in your library talking about at 4:16 was in a half in week one he is able to put put up big yards in her her and see how he starts out here in the third quarter there's trouble pass city has the first down up to the 47 now that goes is a forward pass and they use that quite a bit last year with Nate Allah WA at the runner backsplash it hit 85 percent completion last week and this little shuffle pass right here he spread everybody out with his wide receivers and left that open in the middle and they they made Louisiana Tech pay for that and again it makes Louisiana Tech cognizant of what could be in it you know it brings the body that they watch them and see exactly what happens I thought maybe loosen balls okay last week Fishkin from allah who's on first down brennon rivers did he get it we went low to get the football and they'll rule it a catch at the Bulldogs 47 yard line and already you can see that he's the go-to guy and Dooley he has to be a marked man number 84 you know rivers getting us his 9th grabbin and he threw the ball right where only rivers can catch it at no interception and that out pattern that's what you have to be careful though rivers is a two-time All State and basketball a two-time All State 100 200 meters in Hawaii so he is very very athletic in he's explosive as an athlete second down and three at the 47 yard line [Applause] we start this quarter over the middle rivers and there's catch number ten and I want to keep an eye on him as they move the chains with that first down reception ten catches the Hawaii school record is 14 grabs that was rivers for those 308 yards an NCAA record against Arizona State in the bowl game so he's on pace and coke Brennan makes the tight throw here between defensive backs and he can put a little Buster Brown a throw which he did just now good throw by coke running the first downs in the first 12 minutes and they have picked things up showing some more confidence and rivers making the big grabs first down to 38 here's best he's inside the 30 and looks like he hasn't burst down the mark him out of the 27 that is a Hawaii first down pickup of 12 yards and this is the Hawaii that people saw last year they just dice you up with their passing game and the thing is you know it's so difficult as we touched on in the first half trailer you know you don't know where they gonna go with the ball you know on a matter like that mask it could break off maybe go a slant two of you at the an out pattern it's all depending on what the defense in your dictate and allow him to do and hope women reads his movement and adjust accordingly here five defensive backs to attack first down through Prentiss Shelby pass Polaris and that's read well by Harris he does get it down to the 22 yard line Quinn Harris the junior linebacker on the stop an interesting Polaris it gives you a guy that's a little bit quicker at that running back spot and Polaris is a guy that you know yet seven grabs lasts a week most of them in that fashion but he's a guy who that Offensive Player of the Year in Hawaii in 2005 a transfer from Air Force three catasleep a quick second down and six after the short gain three receivers to the right side chilling blitz inside handoff Belarus nothing doing maybe got back to the line of scrimmage and Tech was ready for that and that's one of the things you blitz into the run and they did it very effectively up front with the big guys good coverage on the right side to the trio of receivers producing rivers have gotten beyond the defensive back and he's wide open thought lately didn't see him that type of tough use you're here checking the cold belly and notify on the back third and seven at the 23 [Music] the tech clowns made a lotta noise tonight most of capacity here in Ruston it's to plate that was a quitter got his hand up there good penetration by Josh reviews as well the dick six three three hundred and fifteen pound senior really become a force inside so great for it by the defenses coke Brennan steps and a big paw in the throwing Lane knocks it down it never reached this target good play by the defensive Louisiana Tech as you can see great effort there so now we're going on Dan Kelly is one for his career is 52 this will be a 41 yarder [Music] [Applause] [Music] kicked on the way and it's 20 like with no good optimal apps so special teams was continued for Hawaii of lot field goal and a missed field goal and it remains 21 14 and he had plenty good snap good hold he just didn't hit it and hooked it as it was way off to the left and dear Julie SP breathing a sigh of relief right now has been feeling good courses eleven minutes to go in the 1147 goal at the third quarter but so far everything is working well and it would be interesting to see how louisiana tech will go here or the next possession tech lab the football when we come back 11 47 to go third quarter the Bulldogs trying to spring the upset in the WAC opener [Music] Antron Jackson with the carry after the missed field goal by Hawaii and then the running game continues to be effective for the Bulldogs as he takes it across the 35 yard line for 12 yards and you got a like what the guys are doing up front protect watch the left tackle right there Tyler Miller 6 7 314 pulls and drops on the outside good kick-out plot allows Patrick Jackson ample one is screwed up he's got 156 total yards for the game number 23 Jackson here's a handoff to Porter who spills him for a short time and goes for a yard up to the 37 yard line animal Leonard is over the air from his linebacker spot Carl Noah the end as well and that Porter will go to the sideline trading that we talked about decision-making in and getting more consistent from Zach champion he's dispersed of all seven receivers 7 different receivers and bulldog blue have caught passes from Zack champion his email taking a page from Colt run and he found 14 receivers last weekend big victory second and 9 on the 37 five-step drop the champion the middle incomplete couple receivers in the area Bryant Jackson also the tight end on a shorter route Anthony Harrison and he threw it right between the two today he looked like he couldn't make up his mind he had Brian Jackson and Beck actually running up the seam I too had a little distance on there the Besant bag but he he pulled the trigger a little bit too soon and dismissed his bargain benefit birthday 11 of 15 through the air on three downs tonight but this is a third and nine champion pressure coming analytics got him and he closed him down a sack back at the 18-yard line four-letter the junior from Seattle and he is a perfect complement of power and speed for seven forty benches 3:30 and he just threw him down there they go every good Blitzer to go along with that he had 11 stops against Alabama 11 against Utah State and he's in the right spot right time good timing on his bits and boy I'll tell you what that was a big play you to play for the white defense it's really - he's in a segment so Cagle who's been fantastic and his putter the early in the season needs a big one it gets the kick away from his 9 yard line Devon best waiting on the punt and will let it bounce to the 40 it's going to take a bulldog roll and dies finally at the 37 yard line still excellent field position for Hawaii but their special teams have failed couple field goal opportunities they can't get any points still stuck on 14 that gets the boat near neck for defense this time and really do a good job keeping everything in front of them as they've done in the first half go prented just stay with what he does so well there you see the last four drives fumble turnover on downs they look for for one and then the two field goals the black field goal right before half-time still a touchdown ties this one up 9:57 to go in the third quarter Brenda : d great small empathic 2010 gone touchdown Hawaii and that one goes for 64 yards and it's 2120 he just ran out streak flew right past the defensive back he hesitated for a moment it was just too much speed didn't have to catch some speed and school predators dialed in looking around Cigna separation that grace bullet put between his defensive back and he just could not catch him as you said as I said the defensive fact his hesitated hesitated momentarily a wild rice bullet separation here and Coke bread found his box for his first touchdown toss 314 yards passing out as 25 career touchdown catches for Grice Mullen Kelly's extra point a bullet and it gets through their line drive variety but it'll count and we're even at 21 good quick strike Hawaii offense finally finding the big play and June Jones team now even in Weston in the Hawaiian heat you can taste the intrigue sniff to a flame-broiled and the action sizzles pickles this whopper jr. may be the whopper jr. Parma the BK value menu just a buck 49 at Burger King makes me hungry for justice man just hungry cold Lenin's 100th career touchdown passes 64 yards strike two Grice Mullen evens things here at 21 when the Warriors and the Bulldogs and it also moves him up the charts fifth all-time tied with Chad Pennington those are some names that have had some success as you looked down the list yeah you know Danny Wuerffel and retired former Louisiana Tech quarterback and Ty Detmer so some pretty impressive numbers there and you know he should only move up again you don't know if he'll be the last touch that he throws this evening but you know he's had some big busts out games 38 completions against New Mexico State last year seven of those four touchdowns Arizona State last year 559 yards I say that because he's got a lot of football yet to be played and we can light a festival days on pace for his eighth straight 400 yard gain and sixteenth of his career now 15 through the year Kelly by Jackson the church for 81 yards tonight this tiny slips and goes down at the 16 yard line tough break in Bulldogs start deep on this possession as unusual every return has been acceptable Patridge Ashley the first time they'll start set shop inside the 20 yard line we'll see if because that champion addresses that you know that ciampi was a 2002 mr. football nominee in alabama out of birmingham so uh very impressive high school as well Trey getting really up and down season we talked about he makes mistakes that were past the key points and games but he maybe has found something this has got to give him confidence with his team in the hunt here in the third quarter well yellow flexibility he's not a big kid at 510 177 he just makes plays you know in a junior college he had 100 passes were over 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns he's not fast he's just I gave her that's his fifth grab thus far that's your who champion was shooting for but he found a blue target good for nice pick the first down Alaa minion was bearing down on the quarterback as he got rid of it Jackson Jackson spinning across the 30 and he picks up nice yardage seven yards on that carry Jackson at quarter they kind of fit that that 510 five nine mold they'd have those guys seems like they've had guys like that at Tech for years you know they're little bit different Jackson is more of a north/south guy and and you know Porter has a little I'd say jello in his booth you know he's got a little wheel and so on but they're both dangerous deep gashes out of the Hawaii defense very effectiveness for the judge to see a Russian combine through the Tino's going to punch second down and four for 33 Mitchell in at the full-back spot now plenty of time going down the sideline Desmond Thomas LaBrie safety busted that play up look like wheeler was gonna haul it in he's shaken up he was down and he got some elevation on that that attempt the cast of mass you see that champion goes back and looking for wheeler it just throws it high let him go up he's the Texarkana hi Jeff champion at 611 so he can out-jump the opponents but he came down hard and that's surface again hopefully it's nothing serious not sure if he came down on the shoulder I had wow that hit came down pretty hard I think he's a little bit dizzy at this point that Brown does not give it all and we all really came down hard let's see hate to see it the player land awkwardly like that and he you know being a veteran it's one of the concerns for this coaching staff as a receiver court we'll take a break eight thirty one to go third quarter all even warriors in the Bulldogs the tied at 21 they tended to chat wheeler helped him off the field little bit shaken up after an attempt on a reception they ruled incomplete and the Hawaii fans making the long trek to Louisiana it has been a dogfight between Tech and Hawaii here third down and four champion over the middle first half Kepler Harris on the tight end and he's up to the 49 yard line 22 yards on that completion and this kid from Houston's are good ones and it's Morris nice crossing pattern and O'Reilly just camped right underneath in the middle in the middle zone there where no one was occupying that area nice catch and run for the two 264 pounds sophomore great pro prospect you know you can catch it run and he was a wide receiver quarterback running back in high school in motion continues let's go he's a shovel pass to Jackson he shut down after a short gain Morris you know Harrison cotton ball early that was Morris and they're both big kids and Morris at 264 so nice to have two tight ends that are very effective but again there's a nerd and they mix it up a little shovel play that goes for three yards stole the page from June Jones and use it against him it not does that champion it continues to impress with the way the fenders and manages this offense then basically mistake three thus far on second and seven drop play not much doing as Hawaii has done a nice job staying true to the drawers word gets back to the line of scrimmage maybe a yard third down coming up teardrop playing you want to count a catch him hopefully catch him off guard a little bit it really did the Y was kind of equal to the challenge and played that well stating their lanes and got a skill that played before it got started Leonard was there again number 44 is that a big game as she looked at where they've done a third down tonight five he died very effective third and five here champion what's that like catch me pushdown Anderson drags inside the 30 they're now 6 of 10 on third downs and Anderson another one of their talented young players from Texarkana Texas third catcher Anderson and Zach champion just stayed and beat the Blitz says he was facing a blitz Anderson catches on the outside little comeback runs nice run up to the catch his third grab and bought a again is very similar to the last catch he made in the early Drive of the first quarter and fourth the champion continues to find open receivers Bulldogs trying to retake the lead deep drop for champion pump fake going deep for the end zone and a complete idiot Brian Jackson all along in the corner coach Dooley said he missed a couple routes like that last week a couple post patterns he missed him there was one tonight well you know what the thing is when you see this your eyes are wide open he books and says oh please please give me about five more yards here and he just couldn't get to it you know he just threw it too it's excitement adrenaline I think just carried that ball a little further but he had a trip he would have been at drop it in there but Jackson was wide open Chris Moore 15 completions to eight different receivers second and 10 now pitch to Jackson rocks at the 25-yard line and that's a great open field play right there by Hawaii we're in Ruston Louisiana at Joe I a stadium tre bender alongside Renee Nadeau this is a WAC opener for Hawaii in Louisiana Tech and it is not disappointed Tech jumping out to a 14 nothing lead Hawaii battled back and it is a game that many thought Hawaii 20th in the country they 160-170 last year but it is been a battle Bulldogs 6 for 10 on third downs third and a champion hit as he throws at a team complete Sampath through a triple coverage that time he's lucky to come away with an interception because he threw right in the hands sub live ever dropped it but champion just forced that ball that Simon in his own coverage those rights as he releases the ball he gets it but done BC boy he just was facing that good stood strong in the pocket and a really good play heads-up play is a nice nice courage by he's tipping Francis maka the guy that hit him here's a 42 yarder for hor Liddell plenty of bling and it's going and the Bulldogs are back in front the four-year starter promote Grich Tennessee gets it through there and his first field goal of the season and his 2421 as a nice reward for that offense after they drove down the field I got some points of some kind and his Ed's the head of Hawaii 24:21 again it will challenge her why to come back and match their score which do we talked about why he came to Louisiana Tech he felt he could recruit this area and Texas know so many people around the area and then the commitment to the football program this is a big part of it a state of the art locker room here in Ruston that's gonna mean an awful lot when recruits come here see the commitment and the glass and how nice the locker room is that they'll dress it for that is that's second to none you need to go around the country you won't see many locker rooms that impressive that's gonna be a lot again not only it looks very impressive with the commitment is a lot more to come as Dooley talked about he's coming in a couple years a half-million-dollar locker room and of course one of the youngest head coaches as you look at the list here and some big names on that list and he's hoping to her to write his chapter here in the WAC and he's making a statement I think teams in this conference better look out this is a good football team [Applause] with a huge kick by Carlo and he takes it up to the 33-yard line so in his brash since the telly actually the up back that took it upfield and Hawaii with pretty good field position as they'll start 33 yard line Brenner was the Sammy Baugh Award winner last year tray and the thing is people say is he just the system quarterback you know you jump as close to brutal quarterbacks he compares his skills to a Dan Marino or Jeff Doolin and you see his wind of his delivery there is someone to those two and a fellow log breaks you he's a ah - Sam you bought one candidate Hamill a Davey O'Brien Award candidate Heisman Trophy candidate all-american Pittsburgh area great name out there and he's up for battle or here's a swing pass to pull our futures these are their Macbeth Harris Josh Muse and D Anthony Smith and that's swarming to the football that's great team tackler that is what Coach Dooley wants to see it he talked about it yesterday better tackling he's got that a blitz coming and koch brothers delivers the farlows to her that he really wanted to and boy I tell you what the cavalry arrived just in time just warped out that way lasted three second and thirteen back at the 30 you see this to one side and Christ Mullen is emotion [Applause] renin trying to rally his team again over the middle section a fix push down he's the midfield and he's out of bounds at the Bulldogs 47 here's the guy you talked about earlier Rene Devon vests last year 96 caches first team all whacked last two years make oak Brennan throws a deep cross here at best comes up with it that was his that was a nice throw and catch here as Devon messed with separation across and he is a dangerous receiver 14 touchdowns as a first but an NCAA record and both say it best is the kind of guy that you have to feel give it double coverage but with the receivers they have it's been singular and blanket picking up life shift to the left side this time for dr. Lewis in Santana Huaraz fumbles the football Hawaii gets it back at the 48 yard line that was recovered by Hercules Satele a the left guard I'm very lucky to get this ball back as if tried as a couple of times it's worked but this time the ball was punched loose and satelli it was happy to be around that and came up with the ball Crosby with the punch-out [Music] the loss of four yards second and 14 back to 49 and look it's the tale a [Applause] journey started that left guard position a good 150 an NFL guy next year Brennan lays it out caught by rivers 40 spins and it's close to the first out 237 when Harrison over there to make the stop also crisp you from his defensive line position trailing the play and it's third and short is it eleventh grab and Colt Brennan delivers the ball just to lure short when it lets him catch and run and he knows what to make happen after the catch give it first down you know Louisiana is try to confuse between that becomes in facts not confusing coplanar three catch his shy of the school record for receptions that's 14 nearly set that mark last year bird anyone running sip set cooked by Christ on first down get immediately at the 30-yard line tackle made by Deon young the strong safety and they move the chains Nicole brennidon continues to impress as he finds the open gap there on the open receiver as they've given up a little too much cushion it rice ball he comes up with other catching first down wiring goes coaching the 3-minute mark here third quarter game Jones team trailing by a field goal they trailed 14 nothing they even bit they trail 21 14 squared it now they're down by three maybe go and throw a touchdown get the lead for the first time Brennan in completo behind best on that one also Trello history odd code Brennan he attended Mater Dei high school in Irvine California we talked about the Heisman race as a couple of former Heisman Trophy winners Matt Leinart won in a 2004 at John York Notre Dame quarterback won the Heisman 64 both lows attended mater Bay high school so might they make the third one the years really is you look at his numbers heating up here the second half been really adopted Hawaii is home the culture that the things like surfing with it with his teammates here's a pitch for Polaris inside the 25 hit hard and push it's for neo Baker that just popped him down to the 24 yard line and that's Baker's well tackle of this contest he's all over their field and you know he talked about the shuffle pass and things that Copeland is doing and people with a thick coke Brennan a think he's gonna throw vertically everyplace and he's followed the shortest playing shortest path that's the easiest path he's smart about it he's not just that Polaris is going to come have to come off the field now on through down and five at the 24 bull box fans can make a noise here [Applause] [Music] the six through 11 on teardowns right Jackson in as a running back running looking back Rivers has hit it he has a first down tripped up by Weldon Brown the corner backer it would have been a bigger gain but it's a first down grabbed to the 17 both left receivers spread out both ran a slant and Koch brother just nicked his boy isn't here and found the deeper of the two slants for the first down the chains begin to move Koch Brennan is getting in sync here again getting comfortable and as we approached the 2-minute bars of the field for 12 catches now whoever's first half to 17 rivers will be squid out seam top of the screen there on the left side pressure coming Brennan over the middle it's grace Mullen touchdown Hawaii and they're in front for the first time [Applause] his second touchdown pass in 18 yarder and it's 2724 and I can tell you exactly why there's Antonio Baker number 34 look where he started splits way back there but he left it you know no one was at home and he left the middle wide open but Antonio Baker began his pitch way to be pinned you saw number 34 as he got close coke Brenna just saw that one wide open and now the receiver touchdown Hawaii 64 yarder to number one and then the 18 yarder right there and Kelly for the extra point with 204 to go in the third they keep the great outfits down for long extra point is good for Kelly and it's 28 to 24 and the numbers starting to build for Brennan and that Hawaii offense this is a 20th game that Dunkel Brennan has had two touchdowns are born so what pretty impressive the deep goes on great quarterback tradition of Hawaii Chu Jones set that into play and it all started with Tim taking over as head coach in 1999 the guy that really put this offense on the map though from the quarterback position was Timmy Chang he rewrote the record books and was phenomenal not a big kid then he got it done and put a lot of yards on the board very productive 322 yards he average per game and 17,000 yards he owns that record NC double-a has some really good receivers but very good manager of the offense he could throw deep had the arm but again he played very well for the Hawaiian rainbows and I'd say he's got records that may never be broken well there he is C Chang second to Detmer in a brennan on pace to eclipse all those numbers and be the all-time leader in division 1a and he's not gonna catch dental or troops of the yardage he's 7,000 yards behind but in terms of touchdown passes and and maybe he could really make his stamp with what this team does this year on a national state I think that would really maybe separate running crunching and the thing is you know you touched on earlier is that they could run the table if they're successful here today you know with boys you losing your own kind of situation they're in a wide certainly could good love the table if they do they'll be this year's version called Boise from the way his hip-hop David by Jackson at the seven I step one man gets the corner turned and then he's knocked out of bounds here xxx flight comes in late so 28 to 24 game and still 157 to go here the third quarter now remember two years ago this one's gonna back up the return team Louisiana Tech two years ago Louisiana Tech hammered Hawaii here in Ruston last year Hawaii won big on the island 61 17 can they go Block in the back under turn team number four ten-yard penalty from the spot of the foul first out six penalties now for 45 yards against the Bulldogs you know the thing is Patrick Jackson we've been watching them all evening the thing is that Patrick Jackson you think of all the great running backs have come out of Louisiana I have the Louisiana Superdome the state champions if you see a good look at the penalty right there the camera Ward's off yourself a champion play-action backside pressure throws incomplete one hot two to Jackson the stakes are high Patrick Jackson in a state championship game at the Louisiana Superdome in 2a he had 263 yards four touchdowns and that was a record that was a standard for quite a while he gets into the war with guns and and somebody great running back to have come out of this area and he's he set the standard for so long very very tough and thought a so it's not just a he plays best when the stakes are high HP is going to be tapping his resources in Louisiana who recruits the re has a transfer a backup quarterback logger Steven Anslinger a factor in the coming years here's a handoff to Mosley the backup quarterback they tried this play earlier and it goes for a short yardage out to the 23 yard line it worked last time he worked this time and Mosley who is good foot speed on the end around reverse you can see he's and a nose the former Landry product out of the Wallace Louisiana it's a productive yards third damn it should be a guy that is a starter next year quarterback just two sophomores you look at the first half numbers and they've struggled Hawaii is really stiffened up and they've been tough to deal with here the second hand champion in the planet to play that was into double coverage broken up Elam Indian was there and also ko Monta handle off to punt the football [Music] Hawaii rhiness is not up front the front for kind of confused of blocking a little bit got a little pressure you see there rent a stuff you see you can see a blitz coming right here from the house actually though the right defensive end Noah ran that snuck came through the eight yappin and got to champion before you lose the ball it's KO Monta thirty five free safety junior from Honolulu Kegel out there again and again punting deep inside his 10-yard line best standing at the Hawaii 31 low kick gonna let it bounce to 36 takes a sideways hop you down to 35 yard line so Hawaii has the football and they have the lead and this is kind of a danger time for Louisiana Tech we know what kohlbrenner could do and he has some confidence right now kept playing much better the third quarter since I've kind of hit their stride and they put a little you know put some numbers on with a school boy you can see that we zantac it just holding on and and wait to the storm stops but Kolb reading is just kind of beginning to hit stride a little bit getting in sync with his receivers and he's still got a whole court left to play this field goal and a couple touchdown drives through Hawaii to gamely here 2824 late in the third quarter Brennan put those football it's loose at the 34 Tech says in heaven no indication yet they never got the exchange off and there's still a battle for the football down there Louisiana Tech has the football up big turnover here at the 123 mark good field position for the Bulldogs as it was Matt up here handoff he could see just on the edge of his hip and there's a scrum right there rookies rubbing the futures he wound up on top of the ball with reneges there wasn't a good handoff between he and bright Jackson it looks like the Antonio Baker got down there to grab it and Baker has 13 14 tackles left bar now a fumble recoveries at an outstanding game from a safety spot two takeaways to block kicks they made Central Arkansas turn it over last week they continue that trend here against Hawaii first out to 33 into the backfield this time either super set for champion the exit from the lead spot just off the line and that one goes for nine yards where he's bumped out of bounds just look the way in Jackson comes across just a crossing pad and a very shallow crossing Merriman champion finds a pun intended no one was that hauled my backers that dropped their coverage leaving him unattended the area a nice pick up foot first down Newberry on the tackle first down at the 21 yard line what a game here in western seesaw battle between Louisiana Tech and Hawaii holds it in at the 3 yard line to make any wet look at get it he got his arms under the pigskin that was a gutsy throw and call by Zach champion and everyone dropped deep end Jamie champion fouled his bar at about the 3 yard line and Miller came back to that injury that neck injury had just a little while ago in what would be catch for him good to see him out there after that injury first and goal down to three staggered set back field this time back Mitchell in there with Jackson go to the corner of the end zone [Music] touched in louisiana tech back in front [Music] ye kiddo used to call it the old alley-oop with our cos I'm going back a few years put Josh whittler I remember he's at 611 high jumper from Texarkana Texas and it's a mismatch e64 and he do get up he's got some shoes nice catch by wheeler and boy he's excited and how about that champions confidence he looks like a completely different good ball player this year as opposed to last his team in front now 32:28 Corwin up to the extra point and he goofs it through their bigs by three champion the fifth year senior from Birmingham Alabama has it gone to the deep wall often but that 15 to 20 yard pass pattern has been effective and that one is right on the money he threw it right it did work that up before and wheeler with the mismatch a big height advantage and also the jumping leaping ability came down with a Danny wants a text gotta be feeling good right now with just 48 ticks to go with the third stanza a little lean over Hawaii every time a wife throws something out of trailer we Xena teca's answer with his board spreading it around you see the nine different receivers he's throwing to both of his tight ends Anderson and Beck wheeler Jackson the running backs Jackson and Porter come out of the backfield has been effective it would he have a running game that's effective that opens up the passing lane that's exactly right that's a great point Patrick Jackson that Daniel Porter head take taking deep gashes out of Hawaii defense and it's allowed them to open up that passing attack because they make it more unconscious and everything has worked very well this is an outstanding game plan for Coach Dooley and Frank so for my congratulations 18 for 27 for champion 164 yards through the air what the what a wack opener huh 31:28 so 48 seconds to go in the third regardless of what happens this has been a very entertaining contest xxx you know like college football let's thinking there's a kickoff here's Mouton at the three nassim and takes it across the 25 that flag comes in after the play and it will probably back up the Warriors penalties have been a killer for the visitors 117 number 18 ten yards in penalties for 57 yards it was on a Gaytan Gayle Darrah the junior from Oahu [Music] Colt Brennan Hansen and his eight plus game but he's still 30 or 40 Renee I mean he still has 380 yards and champion has been sensational running the offense with Bulldog you know Brennan I guess you could say he's heaven off game Zach champion has been solid but violet you know he's here quietly he's doing his mastering with the hailing Nepal and passing he's got a good job first down to 14 plenty of offense at this one box they're coming after Brendan throws through the hands of River she talked behind him and the key there Brennan was harassed by Quinn Harris who put a pop ah nobody threw the football the whack garlic that all academic comes through the a gap and gets to him right as you release the ball and Quinn Harris great job a junior linebacker and coupe read it took a pop there and we said it again those little pumps and when he gets knocked down they'll begin to take its toll as the game goes on and I think it may be doing the number one goal is disrupt Brennan and you know he's still put up pretty good numbers but they've done and I think as well she could do against this Heisman Trophy candidate by second and ten going deep in complete mess he attended her serum [Music] let's remember for those that haven't seen Colt Brennan play against Arizona State in that bowl game he threw for 559 yards and five touchdowns leaving Hawaii Bowl championship win you know one thing I think two things are the reason why we see an attack is heavens recess they're getting a little pressure on him and the thing is you need to confuse him show man but play zone and I think they're confusing a little bit and at this last play the receiver didn't get a crossing pattern and school Brennan could find the yokomo katana surintendant blitzing he throws on the Jurassic and wait now flag comes in late that was intended for Hawthorne and the flag come it can't coming in from the back judge that time [Music] pass interference on the defense number one Tony Moss through star corner and Tony Moss had a little they had good coverage there he might have been a little contact on the back didn't affect the pass but he did have contact so that was a good call and he went over his back so Tony maws so we had three interceptions last week against Central Arkansas was first player of a half three since 1998 penalty first time seven penalties against the Bulldogs to tank Brennan sideline pattern catches made close to the first down boss knocks Hawthorn out of bounds and he has reached the stick first down to 30-yard line coke Brenna doesn't have that punt on for a tax side our emotions so to speak and you know he throws he is a very accurate but that's something that I think the NFL scouts are like to come over more over the top it is delivery we chose a battle on his hands his offense starting to heat up go moving the change [Applause] 25 seconds to go here in the third quarter Brennan best hammered nice open field tackle by Josh Victorian well you hit the quarterback and he hit the receivers again a key for Julie's defense seven tackle the game Jones picked or and had this all smelled out right here he knew that was coming that was his responsibility and he hit best just as the ball delivered nice play and that was a final play on a very entertaining third quarter the Louisiana Tech fans like what they see first-year coach Derek Dooley drawing out an inspired effort from his team 3/4 complete to rustic its 3128 Bulldogs the big plays been the story for the Warriors but the Bulldogs right in it with Zach champion at the controls fourth-quarter coming up beep [Music] a very entertaining football game in Ruston Louisiana Joe I a stadium is a site the WAC opener Louisiana Tech leads Hawaii 3128 as we start this fourth quarter plenty of offensive fireworks we knew we'd see him from Hawaii maybe the most potent offense in college football but Louisiana Tech has had plenty of offenses well they're rushing game has been fantastic and SEC champion has done a brilliant job at quarterback cold-blooded 390 yards through the air they start this series first down from the 29 of second 11 from the 29 after a yard loss right before the end of the 3rd rented the throw and he completely lost the handle on it that was an incomplete pass earlier that happened to over day and he fumbled the ball you know you don't know if you made a deal whatever it may be but he's having a little trouble healing the ball is happening before he fumbled it tech turned into points and begun he's in a little trouble here as he's facing a Blitzen and I was just knocked away by him Harris but he did get rid of it but Harris has played a big game at that linebacker spot yeah breading see where he is their viewing Sally's been hit five times he's fumbled twice and the special teams has had two blocks field goals that was over there no points here than eleven and they set up the screen against you when Harris they began to knock you down he is jr. for Visalia California and you know his dad played at Stanford his grandfather at Southern California he was a quartet Club Region Defensive Player of the Year what an outstanding Clara come up with a big block and I'm near interception right there now think I mean Hawaii we have to do something they rarely do his punch this is where these big play guys last year he let the WAC with four fumble recoveries you mentioned the 95 tackles leading the team also forced three folders he's just one of those guys that set the right place at the right time for double-digit tackle games hit 14 stops against North Texas and o6 say the punt team is out there on fourth and 11 and a timeout call 2-1454 to go in this one as Jim Jones opts to use one here it despite the the woes for Hawaii they're only down three you know you almost expect Hawaii to just kill everybody they play and then with a win at some points on the board this is a 10th this is a character test and they could if they win this game it's gonna help them in the long run they really well and the thing is it's gonna help both teams regardless of what happens you know there's a saying tre that if Hawaii always says if the defense hold your opponent the 35 ports or less we're gonna win right now they're more pointed a loaded that thing is that responsibility wise defensive defensively the reason attack is an outstanding job play their responsibilities up in the right place at the right time and unit has been don't quit it is no donkey bass bass no to punt Phillip back who had a 54-yard return and a 49-yard return last week to set up scores waiting on the football in his three to five yard line Beks gonna let it bounce and it's gonna take a big Hawaii roll all the way down to the 20-yard line so first and ten at the 20 for Louisiana Tech and there's something to be said for for senior leadership and I know champion has a new coach and but the being a 50 year cedar that senior that sense of urgency in your final year he has really come out and you couldn't ask much more from his that champion tonight he's flipped it up a couple of notches but I also want to credit a couple of guys who's had a big game tonight Considine and Miller compared tackles those seniors this year and both may be playing on Sunday Edo's no.8 they ran the ball a lot last week tonight champion throw the ball in a bit more has been effective in both games play action on first down and up to the 25-yard line Ella minion on the stop it converted safety out playing linebacker Josh wheeler leaves the field limping a little bit he's been banged up he had that a big catch last a series that led to a touchdown you know I'll tell you watching Zach champion and being around the LSU program he reminds me a little bit of his style in a mat ball wasn't the most talented guy but managed the offense got it to the playmakers and that's exactly what Jack champion is doing second and five at the 25 yard line Anderson's flip to one side the champion changing the play at the line good pass protection going D incomplete he wanted Brian Jackson here comes the flag several ticks after the play ended but it came in from the side judge ninth penalty the game that appears against Hawaii [Music] pass interference on the defense over 2715 yard penalty from the previous spot that's Ryan meets on the quarterback and you call the items a check with me and Jack's ampion saw the 101 matchup and maybe it wasn't so much he was hoping to get a completion but sometimes plays like this train you looking for anything A+ and that penalty was just as good as a completion just enough to maybe just slow them down there it doesn't have to be much yeah boot time the guilty party that ball maybe not catchable but they'll whistle him for the penalty and it's a first down now at the 40-yard line for the Bulldogs they feel like Brian Jackson just the south boys ready for breakout season out of Woodlawn high school entry for 84 grams 24 touchdowns as a senior are Stanford two receivers single back is Jackson gets his number call and he is game tackled and dropped back at the 37 Rafael a was in their element as well and that plate didn't look good from the get-go Bella minion that fire leader and boy there was a number of white shirts engulfed Patrick Jackson and ala minion or al whacker Foreman but he's all over the place number 17 3-yard loss second and 13 at the 37 now this time they have Anderson with Beck in a slot to the right side champion again taking his time at the line of scrimmage and to all the checks BEC goes emotion sigh my pattern Anderson hit by Luis and finally trots after short gain just shy of the 40 it's still gonna set up the third down and 10 yards to go now standing defensive play by Luis as he stayed with his man and didn't allow innocent to break free following the catch that was just good coverage and minimal game but you know the thing is the Hawaii has hurt themselves in the past by the defensive backs fighting too soon and played a little bit better in some situations tonight third and 10 big play for the Hawaii defense trying to get the football back trailing by three your receivers in the nickel package for the Warriors quarterback draw champion not gonna get it done as he takes it up to the 44 yard line they were looking for that element and also to leave me moku from the linebacker spots but they also read the center lon Roberts released and put down field and once that happens watch number 60 you can see you right in the middle as he's going downfield you know he's gonna block downfield trying to play a block in that as soon as the defensive backs and linebackers see that they react quickly I know it's gonna be a draw of some kind as and centers going downfield one so Derek Dooley sends out the punt team there's Devon best standing it is 22 for Hawaii taggle who's that another big night [Music] good snap vessel waiting on it calls for the fair catch he lets it bounce and it will die does he get a bulldog role dies right at the 14 yard line in that thick humid air here in Rustin 1125 to go 31:28 Louisiana Tech thinking upset [Music] the Warriors have the football trailing by a field goal and uncharacteristic night of miscues for Hawaii but they have a chance to go ahead on this Drive Colt Brennan has really struggled very uncharacteristic he loses the ball here may be the humidity another play here a handoff and what arrived at Louisiana Tech came up and came up with points batted away passed there by Ken Harrison just of us a near interception right on the very next play by Ken Harris very uncharacteristic which finds a wide trilling in the fourth quarter by three points 31 to 28 to add to that they've had a field goal blocks they've missed a field goal they have it first down to 14 on this set [Music] first down to the 40 and slides down to the 42 yard lines tackle made by Anthony Crosby trailing the play but a big gainer 24 on that one and Anthony Crosby was in coverage and that's where coke Brennan picked up on that a linebacker and it was a mismatch deep pattern wide open this first town a dangers received the head we went to football 243 419 yards now for Brennan and he is now thrown for over four hundred and eight straight games first down at the 43 again the underneath receiver turns the corner against Baker he gets out of bounds at the Bulldogs 48 a couple yards shy of the first down this place will catch it in a run against the easiest throws or the shortest ones and he this throws the best not a difficult throat is a crossing pattern and let's best use his outstanding speed and look at help from the referee shields bosses best muskets near the first now Marcus short by a couple of yards Bessette junior from Oakland 27th straight start seventh in the nation last year almost seven catches per game second down and two strips to the left side this time for Brandon and company he looks that way close to rivers can't hang on and that was Josh Victorian again and he has played a bit game not a starter coming in and getting a lot of action here tonight though and he busted that one up Josh Victoria from Destrehan Louisiana really played an outstanding game from his quarterback position and say he's not supply testis Hawaii receivers and again they making it work for all the points there they've gotten to 28 points it's been harder and by Hawaii burden to do that early on did well and lately has struggled six eight completions facing a third and two here and there is Bryce Marlin had the first down backtracked and he gets it back up to the 45 yard line and pick up four yards to move the chains Bryce Mullen and rivers have had big games tonight get a pair of receivers Bryce Mullen and best and it was almost a pick play on this between the two receivers as they almost ran the he feels about to the one other or best I was nice play by speak up my spits you catch first down six catches over 100 yards in the game for grace Mullin at the 45 of Louisiana Tech join blitz again Brennan sets and throws hats Bryce Mullin again side steps away a second man inside the 35 first down for Hawaii that was impressive he changed on a dime three times to pick up the first down they Juke step fake good feint move here and boy he must have put about five or six moves here this is a cha-cha Dancing with the Stars look back and forth nice pickup first down Rainbow Warrior she looks like you and one of your Louisiana dance steps that I've seen in the past used to call get a cha-cha game but here's a reason boost down Brennan and the Warriors as we hit the ten-minute mark at this one he'll go we'll tie it up and looking for the go-ahead score rivers that underneath pattern again and that gets him four yards the inside the 26 yard line they seem to content be content here to go with that conservative pass in this offense that that's a pretty productive play for that also cope runnin is filling the Blitz a little bit they're coming with a Blitzen he's picking up quickly and getting rid of the ball quickly and consequently Hawaii a brother rough weekend picks beneficial things 13 catches rivers one shy of the school mark four catches in a game second and five at the 25 bulldogs fans have liked what they've seen tonight [Applause] against the 20th ranked team in America Brendon gets the low snap yes time now it's gonna scramble you soon Brennan slides down inside the 20 and he has a first down and Weldon Brown had his sights set on him the quarterback where he hit a bulldog hit a bull's-eye on him Oh Brennan shows the mobility we'll go over here and the improvises for some nice yardage has blue Smith number five just missed them in the backfield the first down continue move the chains you Jones business stretches to a store quarterback in boat brendan is feeling like the game is within reach here with just number nine minutes to go chillin pass through this guy is a battle of numbers he puts that but he makes big plays as well regardless of the kind of night he's having he started to put up numbers that were used to seeing after struggling the first half first down for the 1920 of time goes back at the end zone touchdown Devon best running the best 18 yards and they're back in front the best ran that posts got behind the safety a coke Brennan looks it off and looks right in that direction great delivery of that pass right where needed to be in mess with good separation from the safety in the backfield the back of the end zone and touchdown on Hawaii third of the game for Brennan to - Bryce Mullen and now he finds best through to score Kelly for the extra point and the kick is good 8:35 to go Devon best their leading receiver a year ago with a big touchdown grab and a back of the end zone warriors now back up by four [Music] 35:31 Hawaii back in front with 836 to go on this one Colt Brennan putting up huge numbers again part of a long line of great quarterbacks tutored under Jim Jones and look at this room a look at that list unbelievable long track record he was exposed to Jim Kelly was a wide receiver coach with pom-poms Davison used to gamers that he worked with Warren Moon as far back coach Rodney Peete Chris Miller Jeff George Bobby eight mare good for the bunch so some outstanding quarterback so cope Brennan of course tipper today as well so Cobra is the next success story under Jude Jones learned that when he shoot from Mouse Davis Portland State 1975 and has perfected it here's the kickoff fielded by Jackson at the goal line across the 20 invites return 24 like you got another seven yards just dancing his way through and the Bulldogs didn't start at the 24 so a four point game with 826 to go and you know what Jarrett to me we love here is the sustained Drive and then touchdown to use some clocks stay with the running game Patrick Jackson with 230 total yards and if somebody forgot to tell him what he does a 5 9 180 190 pound running back is not supposed to do so boy he gets the most out of that ability and yards after contact he's one of the best of them Justin Mitchell in the backfield with Jackson with two receivers handoff Jackson second back Joey has a big seam across the 30 36 yards a helmet comes off hot tip over there on the stop and that's a good start Patrick Jackson good play right here got a frozen defense on a draw play and let him run and get to the second level very quickly which he does magic Jackson good at finding open field Desmond Thomas did a nice job as well going for the ankles to bring him down first down at the 35 champion sets up the screen for turn one into the ground is the 37 Adam Leonard over there and Karl Noah's well knowing Leonard have really been all over the football field tonight my tech got a loose shot as well and they really smell that one out and Porter didn't have much of a chance it's lucky you got the Yoda its dick yet for that player it does keep the clock moving though 7:45 to go in this one champion facing a second and seven he's 20 of 29 tonight 170 yards as he empties a back gate with Porter a nation freshen up the gotten a second and drop them inside the 30-yard line hey Santa blitz and then file a la la here he is a 292 powder from Honolulu finished them off la la great steps number 96 gets to the hole and and they just it just the pocket collapses on top of them get a sea of white jerseys in Rio they just did a great job on collapsing that pocket getting great penetration of the sack third and 15 and this is a big-time play they can convert it here Hawaii leading they were out to kick ball back rich to the right side on play action champion rolling still rolling now he throws incomplete out of bounds he wanted wheeler on the Hawaii side of the field will have to put it away yet Patrick Jackson a little bit shorter but he thought he had Miller with some separation by the time the ball arrived it was out of bounds so we have to punt the ball away still a lot of time but he's gonna be tough now a challenge with Colt Brennan taking the ball over six and a half minutes to go you see that champion rolling to his right he does hit Jackson open momentarily but he decides to dialogue distance four-wheeler could find the park so Kegel will punt it to best with 639 to go he's had a big time night the best partner in the WAC another good chick best to let it bounce make some Bulldogs hop a nice roll inside the 20 and they'll kill it at the 17 627 to go Hawaii breathing a little bit easier up 35:31 and they have the football trying to move the record at two and oh and stay in the top 25 getting the test from the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech the Warriors trying to stave off an upset from Louisiana Tech kohlbrenner to spreaded around tonight coaching 500 yards passing and put he's done with his three main threats those guys had 214 yards collectively in 2006 are off to a great start rivers annex up it's excellent 13 grabs and best 9 you know rice ball would have been a great receive with any other any other team and his plunge into third down and a 16 yard line Brendon going deep and he holds it in our first diagram out to the 38 I was just gonna ask you you know this guy was on the graphic but he's been effective they would like to burn clock but in this offense that means roll the football and he is a home run threat the fastest a bolt of lightning this is a big-time catch for a guy who was a converted defensive back end boy what a big catch he has there as Brennan goes older than five the decisions for the game being first Anika 38 yard line as we near the six-minute mark in this one Hawaii protecting a four point lead it's a good fix for Greenwich expression steps up by Marquis Smith back and he's down Macbeth the scene here from Moss Point Mississippi with a big-time clay waiting this one right field position comes up what if defensive players at the game as Brenda just snaps in Android Lane and he just read the eyes of brennidon comfortable with Macbeth comes up with an out state in the present way not only does it make the interception touch that drive short but he gives the Bulldogs extra field position at the 550 one more at the 31 the seniors sets him up touchdown puts him in front 551 to play in this one kneelers went last met Annie Anderson to the right side champion hands it out to Jackson the legs churning John element in pushes him backwards they're gonna mark his forward progress at the line of scrimmage a minion eighty nine stops in two thousand and six hundred and seventy two stops coming into this season he is all over the place 20 carries 86 yards for Jackson as Brennan tries to shake off that pitch and characteristically making mistakes in this one this team still in front three receivers on second and ten champion steps up away foot pressure is gonna run it 25 hit and hit again and knock down 423 a little bit short of the first down and that is a cutting effort from the fifth year senior when he got airborne and that is tough and gutsy is he just sold out his body to see if he get to the first down he didn't do it he's doing he's giving everything he has he's emptied his bucket for this this effort here at fort just got airborne hopefully he come down in first down turned to ash or by Shore 5 out of yard this is a giant play here after they company to come up with 6 and set of 3 3 won't help them but you see what they're doing as a school in the 31 at the 22 yard line the 8 carry the game for champion to set him up here the I set Mitchell the full-back and now champions gonna call timeout they had a fullback in a tight end in the backfield interesting look there Mitchell and then Dennis Morris behind him we'll talk this over that power set back there remember Boris was a running back and a quarterback in high school so and he's it was a high school sprinter so you know you get up in the open field and he's a big 62 64 you looking for Jose yard here and if he gets a good surge there up front would say Ken you know that's he'll be the short yardage guy well there's six 414 on third downs you got to be thinking it's four down territory though regardless here they're just 423 to go yeah now you got to be thinking touchdown at this at this juncture in the game you have to try and then and you know you don't know what coke brothers gonna do when he gets the ball back there d-fenders come up there's a big plays but this is definitely four down territory on this first now here would be a momentum shot to the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and still got a lot of time to play with the oh they don't want to just score they want as much of that clock as possible so they wanted to be a very time-consuming Drive here if they score your ia Stadium in Ruston Louisiana the site this is been a classic here on the wack trade vendor alongside Renee Nadeau Hawaii coming in right 20th in the country meeting all they want from Derek Julie's first team third and one [Applause] for life protecting a fork as a quarterback keeper straight ahead and only champion got anything out of that one he needed about a yard and a half outstanding surge up front from my LEL among others [Music] [Applause] now you've got your fourth down play and it's at least a yard they may have gained about a half a foot of that last one but timeout official talk [Applause] straight ahead [Applause] and that was tough ila as you mentioned a 302 pounder clogging up the hole and now the officials that the stick is still on third down so they're gonna come out and measure this the ball is clearly it appears from our vantage point about a yard shy of the first down but they bring the sticks out whoa the official measurement here pretty much what we figured it's still up about a yard away maybe a little bit less than a yard but I'll think you can go quarterback sneak here again are you talking about the we've talked so much about the offense by Greg that Macon has come over and take it over to Jerry Glanville his defensive coordinator was was the defensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks done a good job with his defense and this series well 49er first to fourth down tries fourth and one with four minutes to go on this one champion hand on Morris first down and more to the 10 to the 5 and he's knock down just shy of the official is going to take a look at this the side judge from our side is going to go and take a look to make sure he got in cuz it appeared he might be down they roll it a touchdown let's take a look and Morris just once he broke the initial search bubble but he fell on it and it looks like he's gonna be shy to go from where he fell I would think he's about a footing shy of the goal but they gonna look at this fumble and the recovery by Morris he was lucky to get it back here and we talked about how Morris was a running back in high school he's got a good jump I guess him quicks could have good acceleration and there it is they're gonna blow this play dad they're gonna review this 37 35 if the touchdown stands Morris fumbled the football on his way to the goal line the question is where did he recover the football play was stripped from him and I just from the good camera work you have to think that he fell on the ball prior to breaking the plane it looked like he fell short maybe about a foot short of the goal line you know it's amazing he got it back he found it bounced right in front of them normally they just older where balls get a bounce but that lucky in in Derek Dooley now you trying to get an explanation here's another look and as hey luck has smiled on heavy to see right before he gets into the end zone high tech just strips the ball he falls right on it right there and that's where this is gonna be dead so he was not in the ends ago I'd say pot text rips it right here and you light the ball can bounce anywhere hit it bounce back Ella minion was trailing but he he I think he's gonna be marked about a foot shy of the goal that side judge was right on it he right next to the pie line and ruled the touchdown so it's got to be a inconclusive evidence to overturn this one it was close very close not going out of lemon to say I would I would think they got a market up to one quick lunge big moment here in this one with 352 to go [Music] it's what a key for Derek Julie hi after him he wasn't really pleased with last week but his team found a way to get it done but what a game plan he had coming into this one you could write a book about this game you know so many highs and lows and overcoming adversity and so many good things have happened we're gonna get another view of this great camera work great strip right there of our pot sack and you're right Morrises very fortunate where he went down that the ball happened to be right in front of him and it's where the ball was recovered but it appeared the ball was on the other side and not in the endzone hit broken the plane yet so I would be very surprised that they give him a touchdown rewarded with the touchdown that plate so breather in front or they'll have a first and goal inside the one and you know they haven't had a lot of success on short yardage situations let me throw a scenario out to you food for thought if is that the one foot line no you make boy are you doing I know I'll let me to throw it us has already started you know before reel it back in do you make Hawaii use their timeouts and maybe do a couple of meals I get in the end zone right that too many things could happen if you mess around I think you just get the ball in the end zone but you better you better eat some clock because that's a lot of time up cold running the workers magic that's the problem but Julia tell you the lead get the weight first reversed the plant recovered the ball on the one foot nine Renae I think they got it right I really do well they do a great job and they much better than we are up here because how many cameras we have but we had a pretty good angle from our camera work and where the ball landed and that was a tremendous car there so take the points off the board here's another look more a stripped by pond tech while mouse is right really right back up to him named fell down the wall and the ball was on up in front of the goal line had that bulk of the planet did not break the place so first and goal inside the one take the points off the board it's still Hawaii in front 35 31 in a standing ovation blown crowd in the Bulldog and the Morris is still in the game my TV [Applause] yep he's in it the running back spot behind Dustin Mitchell pull back champion quarterback keeper again and get right at the line and no progress forward that play is not worked they do now now here's where your theory comes into play you do burn off some cluck well that that's a good thing but they're not going to get tremendous surge from really good surge off the defensive line they pushed it back they may have lost a couple of inches on that limb that you make it to Morris let me get airborne second ago from the Lord champion Hansa dr. Morris touchdown Louisiana Tech back in front with 301 to go and you get the chance to redeem himself after fumbling on the goal line [Music] that's 264 pounds of mass for finding the endzone the game of highs and lows six plays 30 yards after the interception Colt running extra point is good he'll hold it out a 301 to go Dennis Morris puts the Bulldogs in front the back cut tied in turn fullback 38:35 Louisiana Tech this is a no great way to open up black season for these two again the Hawaii roadtrip this is a two-game 12 day road trip to the mainland this would be a tough way to start this trip without question they have to fly back to Houston to spend time there for days then they go to Vegas to play UNLV September 15th and then they fly home but to start off this long road trip with a loss in your conference opener Jean Jones is looking for well there's no test their a metal and see if their beta over three minutes 181 takes to go can you come up with some more points before the final gun sounds and regardless of what happens both of these teams are gonna be it sent a message out to the WAC on what kind of talent they both have and everyone knows what kind of team Hawaii hands and can they come back and win this thing if not Louisiana Tech uh send a big message out to their upcoming opponents of what they're capable of doing and they have struggled on the road as you see they've been better those since before - Jones they have a improved but this is one of the tests there are always some hurdles you need to clear if you're gonna have a storybook season and this is one of them it could come down to lives on building it out with a kickoff it's gonna be mounting away in the sophomore from Fort Lauderdale Florida and he has to move across the 30 lane hit by paper and drops at the 35 yard line reel one to go and we don't need to mention to you that that's plenty of time for Colt Brennan in this Warriors offense two-minute offense again 24 scores last year Jupitus less what he's done in comeback wins nine of them and they stood again you mentioned the two-minute drives yeah this this fits right in this is John Elway type of things 39 of 59 passing per run we had 492 yards yeah president with 500 I'll just down the pocket dot run on the play we check with replay to get the jack and we had our ESPN plus clock under two minutes they still have 301 on that scoreboard you know it's possible he's eight yards away from 500 and it seemed like it's been a silent 500 yards crazy that's that's a standard he's set they're gonna find out how much time they did not run off here I think we handed it to 52 our guys in the truck and they still have 301 on the board on the scoreboard clock so those precious seconds if Derek Dooley he's laughing he's having a good time out there oh wow and as well he should he look at the scoreboard and has a three-point advantage with under three minutes to go and have you feeling good about where this team has really come back and been there it resilient to witnessed what has happened Hawaii everything that's brought out of there responded you know I was looking at their schedule this year Renee and they we mentioned that earlier that may be the toughest non-conference slate in the nation this guy gave me some confidence [Applause] so they have put at 2:53 but so you go to Cal next you have a LSU ranked second the country on the road but at least now you you know you prove you can play with the big boys this this says a watch through the rest of the year these Bulldogs team first after 35 touchdown puts it in front feel again big square things grinning wide open dry small and pushed down the more rich people get together and he's out of bounds and the Bulldog 46 that was too easy he had all kinds of room over there wide open there's another short throw and that's what he does show us catch and run and it's receiver Grice ballin go out pattered it turns up the feel of boss is not aware on the fact that he's made to catch him before it's too late in Italy takes a deep - out of the defense inside the 50-yard line there you go over 500 that's three in his career the last one in there Hawaii Bowl victory over Arizona State Brennan this chuckles makes the catch he put on it he has a first down you chuckle that three or four times today it's somehow had the concentration Hall it is he's got they'll curl hands he's prime-time kind of player comes up to the big-time catch which he did just now and this is unbelievable this is uh you know he's he's got NFL starting ripped all over him just to catch like this this great concentration that's just a big-time catch Rizzo a junior oh wow he's gonna be great rice mulling we'll be back next year as you look at Passons members over at first down from the 34 to 42 to working his pressure gauge down the left sideline and incomplete and a flag is thrown intended for rivers Brown was there brad has his hands out okay what me but I think they're gonna get the tech defense for the penalty here pass interference on the defense [Applause] the big one this ball wasn't catchable single coverage you know he's gonna take us blitzing so often that they're in single coverage and that's a tough tough task ask those quarterbacks and you know those things gonna happen in the fourth quarter passing alone hawaii 102 yards the bulldogs just 5 but you know the safety has been not a factor with Louisiana Tech because it gets so often tonight the rivers may have gotten to that fit their has to do the contact if you didn't get the contact well 15-yard penalty to the 19 then Brennan wanted to shovel it in left the football back to the 27 and then quit Harris he's been the defensive MVP tonight for Louisiana Tech and he read that play let me give you a stat no sack allowed by Hawaii offensive line last week only 28 sacks last year in 615 attempts last year top of the screen here here comes the Blitz and I just they just timed this perfectly fullback was forced to pick him up hit be stolen just I'm staying - Harris has been all over the field he's got to be considered Defensive Player of the Week on second at 17 Brennan incomplete learn Hawthorne Moss on the cover can now the flag comes in you know we've seen a lot of flags come in late after plays on both sides but a couple ticks after the play give the officials credit they want to make the right call on the defense but normally you don't see that delayed reaction we've seen that tonight we have in fact and you and he was trying to give him a jam a little bit too far off the line look he's got his hands on him and he had his hands on him he didn't release and again we have that cushion where you can't get your hands in JAMA be late for two for colitis cringe and do that release a nice little pop he came from automatic first down first out 2:23 with under two minutes to go in this one Hawaii in field goal range they want the go-ahead score though Brice Mullen in a slot left running looking that way that felt it to complaints good Harris again how many big plays his Queen Harris made on that side of the ball roll man he's just been all over the place it's a it's like you see two or three number 37 you know it says dislike the Louisiana six play with 12 people but that was just you know that was certainly gonna find its market quit Harris not misdirected that pass certainly we found his mark and who knows we'll have it since then but you know he's gonna be gonna come down to special teams because obviously if he comes down to a fourth down you got to think oh why he's balking the field goal to tie up see second in tan at the 23-yard line three receivers left play clock down to 3 as he takes his snap planet hammer here was in there and also tiller from a safety spot and they provenance timeout Hawaii with 143 to go that's it a second ago 28 sacks last year on 615 attempts yep got cool three or four times already and that wasn't even a maybe sack Wow you could hear the wood crack from up here they would have got the coke brother that time he hasn't been hit that hard it quite some time Wow he said you got to hit the quarterback and they have a may have listened to their head coach few a 235 pounds senior and Dillard 210 pounds drunks safety just level you know you better check that dive and knock one of the islands off his hair and a blonde that was quite a hit so it cleared down at 19 coming up with the 32 if you're Hawaii got me thinking two things you'd like to get the first down here but you also got to get your kicker into range at least because right now it's a long field goal attempt you got to get something out of this planet at least set up Kelley and put yourself in position to tie the good the thing is Fullerton is the guy you want in this kind of situation you get there before you know you got to feel good about ladies people of doing he's got 500 yards he's got a couple of ways to feel around with here and if anybody can do it Coke ready to do it we'll see what happens with the cookie with the deck he says has no man pursueth one there 8 for 13 on third downs have been effective but this is a third and 19 pressure coming granted throws open price Mullen incomplete he never saw the ball thrown behind him it's fourth down and they're gonna bring Kelly out there they're gonna try a field goal here and he had to let the ball going wasn't so much because he took a hit watch as soon as you release the ball look at the hit he took right there in the middle as they came with the pressure and got to Brennan before he reached the ball and that was just again another blitz that found its mark and those hits it just it was he threw the ball before he really wanted to now Kelly's confidence has to be rattled he's had a kick blocked and he's at a field goal missed his career long 52 against Purdue last year this will be a 49 yarder for the time snap good kick on the way [Music] and we'll even at 38 that is a big-time kick from a Negros Award candidate to even things up pressure kick for a pressure kicker and he did it just what he need the two of June Jones for that we're all tied at 0-0 now with 94 ticks to go turnover your defense get Koch front of the ball back now and this is what a defense for Hawaii's got to step up ujin do something they haven't been able to do all evening and had to stop the running attack oh he's head of ten let's take a look at the last Louisiana Tech Drive that put them in front 38 to 35 it started with this pick of a Colt Brennan pass the cloak running with pressure throws and a district quick pick out of the air by back pass and that champion just running improvising as a girl is just selling his body out nice handoff and this is Boris running strip the ball right the one your foot foot young Lauren and they just finishes a drive here with giving it right back to him and boy they're excited it popped up and it offensive line has done a great job opening holes for Morrison champion and company Hawaii with a great drive to get even and they really were positioned to go ahead before that defense stiffened up but Kelly the confidence was definitely rattled after missing that kick wide left earlier he was on the money for 49 yards away Jackson the deep man for Louisiana Tech he's average 23.3 on return as Kelly tips it away from the 30 it will be Jackson from the seven yard lines and he gets it out to the 30 activate they're on special teams bye Billy AMI now movie from Oahu so 129 to go and tech at the 30-yard line and a chance to get a game-winning drive here with champion at the helm champion 29 out of 20 out of 30 for 169 salamy he's been very effective and again he's been as effective with his arm as he has with his legs they're just split backs as Jackson's on the field with Mitchell and two receivers we learned Anderson backside pressure champion set to toasty he has a man of Anacin can't come up with it at the 25 they go for the big one right out of the gate an Anderson hit beaten distresses retn to beat me coverage deep and just a little too long get along to come in with it but but shares arm strength that Zach champion does have and boy he put a little mustard on top and bombs were falling off all around him as a brushed against lung to collapse the pocket he's probably enough time to live it up past Anderson the bottom of the screen single white out there three on the other side of the field on second and 10 here comes that pressure champion pop by Jackson shakes a tackle to Leonard across the 35 dives out of bounds and it's close to the first down at the 40 can't see enough about Patrick Jackson what he means to the scene good clock management a good play calling as Jackson gets the crossing pattern and this runs away from Whitney tacklers gets the necessary first down and this is important he gets out of out of pylons to stop the clock contech knocked him out it's very close we have to measure here as you look at his numbers rushing and receiving and then he's such a factor in the kick return game as well oh wow you know he's all three phases as receiver runner we talked about how he's remind you of a man well Dee Moore who Frank Cassell for Coach tattoo ain't now with the Minnesota Vikings and he's very similar than his style could kill you as they return specialists as a runner arms receivers first time 271 all-purpose yards for Jackson yes he moves the chains with that last play all even at 38 he just joined us this is a 14-nothing lead for Louisiana Tech out of the gate and it's been a seesaw battle since Hawaii is just tied it on a 49 yard damn killer Bulldogs from the 40 Anita jackson gotcha Brian Jackson and at least 15 yards if he hauls that in and they're getting getting close to field goal range but he dropped it you know things have been going so well and you know figured something had to happen at Brian Jackson just I tried to run before he actually caught the ball and those things happen kept champion just shrug it off just go back their story then suck it down at the 40-yard line in they have ten seconds to go they shuttle personnel on and off the field Jackson is in a slot with wheeler the one side Anderson to the other in the ability to set backs for blocking purposes receivers champion tries to run away from pressure gets away from Ellen in Newberry get some drops of at the 46 yard line gain of six in that sense of a manageable third down and a long three here great closing speed by Newberry and that he eluded new para he was definite going out of bounds that he of gained the necessary first down territory so good running good mobility by Zach champion gaining of near the first nail territory you see him good side of the pocket here eluding a would-be tacklers with just could get away from Newberry with that good speed for four in the fortieth as you said it's manageable here with yeah and they're going to use the timeout they have they have one remaining so a third and four now Hawaii has a timeout left as well so this becomes a very big play here they convert it they have a timeout to use and will try to get into field goal range if Hawaii can stop them he'll probably use their timeout and they'll have a little bit of time to work with gets a depression up the defense right now and does that champion you got to think that the fort out territory here that you may see Boris again with that set in the back field he was so successful short yardage look at Danny Horwood L career long of 46 did that a couple times a couple years ago he has connected on a field goal tonight news 8 of 12 last year but only hit a 38 yarder has a long a year ago but they gotta convert this to have any chance at a field goal third and three after 47 champion has made one of his best games maybe the best of his career hand on Jackson hit and thighs and did he get there he needed the 50 and it looks like the extra stretch at the end picked up the first down for him boy that was a heads-up play as Jackson just barely got the ball over the Bogut marker for the first down good tackle right there by Ella minion to give the necessary first down with the change that second effort right there and now Tech has one timeout remaining with 48 seconds to go what do you want carries for Jackson 90 yards they need somewhere around 15 to 20 yards to give more Weddell a legitimate chance go get pressure on champion this time steps up in the pocket that wall tips any complete [Music] hips at the line second intent so I got a big par for the passing lane and misdirected that pass stop the clock with 36 ticks to go and still not in field goal range so it was David vicuna offensive an that got his hand up there second and ten from the 50-yard line three receivers left champion option pitch to Porter get the quarter turn back to the original line of scrimmage he's knocked out by khalili moku and now it's third down mark the ball just across midfield third and ten now you have 31 seconds to work with and again your head area you know Hawaii has a timeout left but you got to take a shot downfield here don't you Wow you know I mean enemy is stuff I think obviously Hawaii is gonna get it drop deep not to give anything behind it over the top but you got to think that June Jones just feeling let's talk this over again let the triple zeros hit the clock and we'll start from scratch and may the best team win third and 10 31 seconds to go [Music] probably call timeout but will it be tech Tech's gonna use it Tech will use it with 19 seconds to go facing fourth down I got a thick Derrick Julie's going to talk to them after receiving that pass heading cut to the sidelines I don't know why turned it back inside again but done you could use a solid as an ally and a little more green on the outside cut off so you could maybe use that silo to stop the clock and not further timeout but again you've got to make the most out of it get rid Renee this is what are you gonna do here you've got a fourth down and four at the 44 yard line you don't get it you give it back to Hawaii and one pass in there the field goal range if you do get the first down you've got a chance at a field goal this is really really interesting here in the final 19 seconds I don't know exact champion if when they've been the situation such as this tray it looks like they usually he gets bobble it gets on the outside either but you would go for here you wouldn't punt the football you don't get it you're giving Hawaii a chance to win this football around I know but the way the things are gone and a witness plate this thing out I think so you go for it that's what they gonna do Zach champion made this this is why we're sitting up here but sucked up and it may be bubbling it hit the edge a little bit either keep it and go on see what options he has he sent his shotgun to see what happens Hawaii has the one timeout remaining 19 seconds to go 44 champion pressure scrambles hint dropped at the 47 Hawaii's gonna use her timeout with 12 seconds to go and here's the dilemma now you've got Colt Brennan in the Hawaii oz that's coming on the field they need a 20-yard completion to set up for the game-winning field goal well you know I think it was a good role with a diocese Benna Derek do is gamble you saw early in the game he had an onside kick and I think he's this is the way you win you know and you roll the dice a little bit you're feeling good about the way your team is playing and I don't think that's a bad decision and they're going either way and tough call it's tough call and I think they're duly did what he thought was right we'll see June Jones can capitalize on us or that bad big stop at the deep end Brennan has the hot hand he's 9 of 15 for 133 yards here in the fourth quarter at the 46 yard line Kelly has ranged around 50 yards they need to get it somewhere around 35 12 seconds to work with Brennan looking downfield he's gonna run he's hit interact at the 39 by Harris and the clock stopped with three seconds to go as the user final timeout and now either he won to the end zone or that the field goal is out of the question at this one it's Steve it for the end zone now and you line it up and each team will give their option or you know going in from 25 it's we'll see what happens in overtime but this has been an exciting game a well mcgaven it's been a little over four hours so the people certainly got their money's worth we've had a good time every way this is this is developed into classic early in the season the WAC opener Hawaii coming in with their highest ranking since the end of the 1992 season ranked 20th in one poll 22nd to the other they are a team that feels like they're this year's Boise State that they could run the table and when you look at their schedule it's a favorable schedule there aren't heavy weights until late of the year when they get Boise State at home they get Washington a home that you go to Nevada for a road game but they're just trying to survive here on the road you know good teams could test it this way to Hawaii comes away with a win by every good team always you know just take it to the wire by a team and ride with a history even the investment champions have had this close calls and this maybe if Hawaii comes away with the win it may be their close call for 2007 their last chance here for Hawaii to hope for defensive penalty or pass into the end zone from the 49 yard line Brennan as the clock goes to zero he's hit any sacks admits he headed over time juice was in there the Anthony Smith as well the defensive wine has really put pressure on Colt Brennan and this one isn't settled yet we're all even at 38 the opposing coaches are going to take this tape and look at it real closely at home Louisiana Tech has gotten to cope Brennan with no one else has who Smith has puts the exclamation point right there is he buried Koch Brennan with that second great effort from Derek Dooley's team but we're headed to overtime Hawaii 38 Louisiana Tech 38 at the inter regulation overtime coming up from Ruston 20th ranked Hawaii in Louisiana Tech all even at the end of regulation at 38 as we start the overtime period here in Ruston Louisiana and a refresher on the overtime rules in college football nothing's changed point toss for choice of offense defense or end of the field each team gets one possession in the opponent's 25 keep playing until a winner is decided and if we get deep enough teams must go 4-2 starting with that third overtime period and Rene you've seen these over times in the past it's it's a fun there's a suspense it just kind of builds doesn't it yeah you know it's it's all the rest of the game was meaningless now this is when the real meat comes to into play here and the end the real figure because you know it's at the 25-yard line so you're in a practical in a red zone to start with so at the truce the fields for you and makes it tough of that defense and we understand Hawaii will get the football first so June Jones and most coaches want the football second they want to see what they need to get on their possession but Hawaii will have it first heading into this overtime period Colt Brennan there he is 41 a 59 523 yards and three touchdowns and his career high again is 559 yards against Arizona State in the Hawaii Bowl last year right that record be in jeopardy [Applause] so to the 25-yard line we start things here in this first overtime Hawaii trying to stay in the top 25 and whether whacked opener run farmer in the backfield and four receivers [Applause] blended over the Menil cup by christ small ladies inside the ten to the six who makes that look so easy and that is a touch pass and not an easy play to make christ Mullen good separation and wide open as Brennan found a market is he right is Grise politics could lead the outsider up the seam turns around and had enough time to collect himself get inside the ten yard line near the fries and the but it couldn't put it good outside movement just woken inside and drive the senior man 19 yard pickup world and ground on the tackle farmer in the backfield again as no guilt trips to one side at the bottom of the screen [Applause] Brennan to the corner of the end zone it's taught by rivers touchdown Hawaii back in front and here comes the all-important p80 and rivers adding to his total and Greenwich just throws it up there lets him go and get it as a nice play nice catch throwing catch again Brendan drops back three step drop throwing catching the rivers just beat welded ground this tough matchup in rivers has burned that defensive secondary all evening so here comes the extra point bum Kelly and hold apart Grasso and the kick is good 45:38 and louisiana tech gets their chance on their first series of the first overtime this is fun isn't it not enough of this who needs a 9 to 6 3 to nothing game oh this is a wide open style to whack we've seen it from Hawaii we've seen it for Boise State San Jose State last year at a bull run it is a fun brand of football it's not how you start it's how you finish and who would have thought that Hawaii we get the 45 points the way they started they started very very slowly we're having trouble with telling the ball reason attack and hit a lot to do with that but right now they be by 7:00 in overtime 45:38 movies tied his career-high 14 grads after home that would improve score now champion goes to work at the 25 we need at least seven points hand off Jackson straight ahead and he drives down to the 21 hard running four yards Jackson with 94 now on the ground and you can't say enough about this offensive line they are blue-collar guys up front as you look at the total yardage Considine jones roberts harrison miller have done a great job all five and of course those loose corner stones on the edge Considine at right tackle and miller left tackle I should be playing the NFL next year both might be fourth fifth round draft choice as it stands right now off to draft will held today Monta la coming out limping is they a is now in a tackle spot for Hawaii handoff it's Jackson and he's inside the 20 close to the first down looks like he's about a yard shy he's cut down after 17 and that was a vacant a the junior on the stop and a game like this you really got to dig a little deeper and conditioning plays it to that and you got to think that humidity and the heat here's probably effective Hawaii and they're digging deeper this goes into another overtime run are too you know because of the loss of the game you wonder how much effect that will have on Hawaii third down they're gonna call it - at the 17 a punch set power whoop hand off to Morris is a flag is thrown and he drives down to just shy than 16 did not get the first down maybe coming back to sleep [Applause] fill out this play link right here on the defense number 74 five yard penalty boy is that a big air from Hawaii or my bad I and they don't have a 70 for their roster Anika it was 94 vacating that's the 10th penalty for 80 yards assessed against Hawaii and so uh gives him a first town and new life for Louisiana Tech so I speculated thought it might be against the tech material I know I wasn't clear so they move the chains here this first overtime this would be a landmark victory for Louisiana Tech not just for the new coach Dooley this would really put this program back on the map make hitch it's going to Porter and he's inside the five cut down at the to tackle made by Khalil emo cool first and goal and just give him a space you know he's a guy had over 2,000 rushing yards at a screw my high school in Baton Rouge and just get him out the airspace let a pic use his instincts good cutback run right there and gets down inside the 5 yard line and again he's 5 9 189 guy but runs very explosively good body lean and make it's the most I've had one of those runs nine carries 58 yards I set for champion play actually wants to throw it fly it up in the tight end is caught for the touchdown it's the full-back Justin Mitchell [Music] and it's 4544 and are they going for two are they going for the win right here Burnett I don't see the kicker Wow that would be a riverboat gambler move and a gutsy moving you know does he want to land on London good play right here is that champion play-action pass throws into a wide-open floor back dusted Mitchell their gold for to launch for - the airs going for the win and you got a credit coach Dooley he's going for a landmark victory here against 20th right - Wyatt pushed the time out Hawaii uses one he's gonna take it a punch said over here the right side and why hasn't it adjusted to that yet we'll see how they do but you don't know if they're gonna spread them out and see if they're gonna run the ball or not mcduck it seems like when you get near the end zone if that if they haven't used that that I want to use a pick set on they call it with Morris in the backfield enthusiam exact chant zach champion will get mobile a little bit roll enough to roll right and put a little pressure on the quarterback to make his decision should he come up or should he come to the receiver how about Derek Dooley first head coaching job 39 years old six youngest coach in Division one twenty years unders dad to influence the former Georgia coach Vince Dooley seven years assistant under Nick Saban he knew the time was right to take this job and this is a big moment I don't think he thought in week two he'd have an opportunity to knock off Hawaii but here he is he's going for the killer shot you got to respect him for that he feels good about it cuz it feels good to ask players or playing I guess when you look him in the eye they feel confident they may have had a piece of this that champion may have said coach week let's go for two I feel good about this you never know and Derek Dooley is the kind of guy is close to this players if Brennan can't watch and no hesitation from Louisiana Tech they wanted to go for two right from the get-go they'll go three receivers to the right for the win the Heisman Trophy candidate all he can do is hang his head and hope for a big defensive play Louisiana Tech for two and the victory champion for the end zone snapped away and Hawaii wins a big play put on there by Gerard Lewis the senior corner from Houston Texas and the Warriors escape 45 44 in overtime is that JD and didn't get mobile as we anticipated a four-wheeler and the ball is batted away before found his mark by defensive back and I was just a great play by George Jones not miss in the account of lumpy attitude Derrick Julius brought to Louisiana Tech and he goes for the win at Jim Jones you know there's respect on that sideline champion goes to the air for the victory ensure our bluest steps in front ends that Jeremy had just rolling to his right and looking great to that snack set or that the bunt set and John Lewis has stepped right in front Lee did you see co-credit 1/3 the size really if it gives the coach aa hug he had a really great game coke Brennan so there was no losers in this game both these coach both these teams stepped up in a big way and Hawaii was was tested and brought to the the edge if you will and it came with a big win and needed a low extra from step up with his win and in Louisiana Tech they've really grown in this game look at the combined points tonight 89 over a thousand yards of total offense brennan goes over the 500 yard mark passing this is gonna make this Hawaii team better this is one of those character games that couldn't resolve a perfect season and for Louisiana Tech they're gonna they're gonna learn a lot of they already have learned a lot about their football team renee enjoyed it had a great time here in russia with you oh we have more like this drink so again the final score in overtime 45 Hawaii heads up Louisiana Tech in a ruler in the WAC opener in Ruston a big night for Colt breading and they made just enough plays down the stretch to pull out the victory thanks to our entire crew producer dave keaney and all those involved here Rustin good night from Ruston Louisiana
