oh yeah you say vince carter brought out the best in you how so well i was always really competitive with vince vince was a year ahead of me and he's still playing by the way which is which is humbly i mean i saw him windmill the other day which just goes to his insane athletic ability yeah and we played on the same aau team in high school we played a tournament together and i remember the height that this guy can elevate off the ground which is unbelievable but he was the number one shooting guard in that class and i was coming up behind him and everybody spent vince spence finn's fancy okay i want to i want to see what this is about sort of thing we never got a chance to go head to head and uh and then when he came to the nba that was that was a great opportunity to do that i'm vince carter a great player has a great night like that uh is there a certain level of acknowledgement that you know i mean that's bound to happen or would you still say that's good i mean he made some bonds [Music] you know he doesn't use it he's a hall of famer for a reason i mean let's not take that uh take that for granted and uh and once he got going you know i couldn't slow him down but i'm shack is he paused in the air and let zoe fall to the ground and then booth what's crazy i at halftime i just told the uh rj i said look we had got a little weak dunk on him both of us i said he's not gonna let us do that again he's gonna jump at us and try to you know lay us out so when he hit me right i went higher and it kind of had me nervous i was scared i was just i jumped higher so while i'm up there i'm like man don't miss this duck and and that's what i said like when i dumped it that's why i was running down when i had to be mug but i heard that so right there [Laughter] greatest stunker ever was vince carter greatest dunk drunker greatest dunker in the dunk contest contest okay um i might have to go with vince carter also over michael vince carter's greatest dunker in the dunk contest dominique in the game vince carter an all-star game for sure vince carter done contest dominique in the game dr j because he did that first from the free-throw line vince carter in the dunk contest i think it's an all-art form of creativity and you know back when dominic and i was going at each other and you know you had a lot of other young stars you know we didn't you know at the time i don't i think the creativity was always us you know we we didn't bring in guys to jump over chairs to jump over it was all just how can you use your imagination i think you know vince was very i think creative last lives i think that's one of the reasons he became the crowd's favorite uh i think what we took from dr j david thompson was to take it to another level and the fans expect these young kids to do the same and and it's tough it's tough to be out there and try to come up with something that the fans haven't seen michael move over somebody's coming to get your best pepper how would you do in a dunk contest with vince carter today oh and you know i'm 37 years old i think you have the advantage but if you talk about when i was younger i think we could have a really good competition i'm referring to when you were younger i think it would be fun i think the fans would certainly get entertained you know it doesn't matter who went because you're going to see creativity at its best it's hard to pick one vince carter story but i would go back to the beginning events so 2000 2001 i'm at marquette university and i'm red shirting i'm sitting out and my team went on the road and the milwaukee bucks was playing the toronto raptors so i didn't have a ticket to the game but i decided to go to the arena with hopes that the security who worked our games because we played at the bradley center as well will let me in they did they let me in and i was sitting up there with the retired jerseys real high up but i got there early because vince carter was was famous for his his pre-game workouts right so before the games started vince carter would put on a dunk show man and like i'm talking about all the duck contest dunks vince carter would do and one of my favorite things that you did at the end before the game started you always grab the neck and you always lift yourself up and dead chin ups on the net and if you know or anybody who know me once i got to the nba i would grab the rim before every game and i would do chin-ups on the rim and it all started from being that little kid that young kid that got a chance to get into the arena to see one of his favorite players do some amazing amazing things so thank you for inspiring me vince thank you for inspiring a whole generation of players not only in canada but around the world man you are one of our goats and uh just thank you how would you say you prepared yourself for it like once you got there like going against you know you was going to be going against all those all-stars and you wanted to be be one so how did you like prepare yourself for it look i might even lie to you bro i might even lie to you my first game we playing against vince carter uh we're playing against vince and you know i'm in there cocky and he's trash man the tv make these players look better than they really are and he missed like two straight shots so i'm alright try i knew he was trash and then he got mad and then got in the post spin move and cocked it on boom right i jumped out the seat oh my god i'm on the court joe you all see that and then i had to realize i was in the nba oh my bad and i'm on the bench like yo did you see that man he didn't touch his head like it was the best thing i've ever seen but what ended up happening was reality kicked in because i'm like he just did that to jason richardson and jason richardson athletic system is huh and then it's like i just seen somebody who go huh and i'm here and i'm like oh man i can't even play in this league bruh and i got so depressed just from the dunk realizing like yo i'm not i don't have this type of athleticism so i spend i go i spent probably the first part of the season just like i can't do this just i can't do none of that
