Chicago Bulls at 18-6 take on the struggling New York Knicks at 8 and 13. with a lot of star power in the building tonight the reigning MVP is here Derrick Rose who has been playing well and on the right Carmelo Anthony coming off argue boy his best game of the season with a 25.6 assist effort here Tuesday against the Detroit Pistons and a pleasant good evening everyone alongside Reggie Miller Kevin Harlan thank you so much for joining us what's your storyline going into this Eastern Conference battle tonight we are on Broadway so it's all about the Stars the shooting of Carmelo Anthony the dribble penetration of Derrick Rose well there is no Rip Hamilton tonight still out with an injury and there is no Luol Deng so that being said let's take a look at the lineup they have to go to their bench Reggie do the Chicago Bulls to find some kind of a starting group to go with their bench will be affected what up to match if you're gonna watch there look the power forward position Carlos Boozer versus Amari Stoudemire Amari has not scored over 25 points this game he did it 37 times last season and over the last nine games Carlos Boozer has owned the Knicks 25 points and 54 shooting averaging 14 rebound pounds as well how about the keys tonight between these two teams the Bulls right now the number one team ranked in the Eastern Conference or you've got to stop the head of the snake and that starts with Derrick Rose but they're such a big front line rebounds are going to be Keys Chicago's number one in the rebounds as well as offensive Rebound in New York in the bottom half and second chance points with those offensive rebounds Chicago's good with those put backs and you've got to guard the three-point line you know New York likes to camp out behind that three you get them in transition Chicago's very good in depth at guarding that three-point line well the most talked about player in New York is Carmelo Anthony when he plays a selfless game this team seems to thrive but that's the problem sometimes that ball stops when it goes in his hands and it's affecting the rest of the team and more importantly it start it's hurting Omari Stoudemire a lot of stick of is going on out there but look at that last Detroit game Carmelo did a good job of really good everyone else involved early looking for his shot late here comes the Knicks number 10 right now in the Eastern Conference they're two games out of the playoff picture Milwaukee is number eight Here Comes Stoudemire and Landry Fields who had an 18-point game and Shumpert is the rookie from Georgetown shot clock is down to three stottemeyer over Boozer [Applause] Brewer and here comes Rose played last night in Philadelphia and had an 18-point game before that he had a handful of games in a row with 30 points foreign [Applause] [Music] foreign Fields played well and Anthony was setting them up and here's a 17-point game and this right there and picked up by Derrick Rose Doug Collins thought maybe he was not feeling all that well last night the starters basically sat in the fourth quarter for Chicago and Philly listen to coach Thibodeau there was no life in Mr Congressman Derrick Rose gets first Basket in dribble penetration to the rim to go that's right Thibodeaux has a lot of confidence in this event and he just called his starters didn't have their legs go inside to Omar's Donna Meyer and a nice speed right there too coming from on top and carmilla trying to set people up three straight possessions for the Knicks and three straight shots for Amari Stoudemire here's Kyle then the New York Knicks have started this game one of six or sometimes how much Reggie the first quarter can dictate the entire outcome of the game what happens the themes established can linger throughout that's why getting off the quick starts is so important just to set the tone wife Anthony and Scott Amai with the full head of steam and held by Boozer and that's what I want to see Amar'e Stoudemire do more you saw those first three possessions and two of those he just settled for outside shots take the ball to the basket get found you're a good free-throw shooter you could put a lot of pressure on the interior defense of Chicago here's Amar'e Stoudemire and we're just three minutes into this ball game and you can take a look at the numbers last season compared with this year a definite drop in all the major categories well a lot of that is because there's not a lot of space down low you bring in Tyson Chandler who is very effective for the Knicks but everything that he does he doesn't really leave the lane a lot of outside shots for Amari [Music] Shumpert who grew up in Chicago and of course knows all about Derrick Rose knocked Away by stodemeyer Noah cleans it up and he lost the ball Here Comes Chandler come to Shepard once again stodemeyer in stride you're right also that is Amari Stoudemire aggressive as Amari is and taking the ball to the basket he is so strong and gifted he's going to be able to finish once he gets in the lane he can't settle for outside shots always gets shot clock back to 14. Boozer already has one foul here just look at through the legs one dribble in the Finish so strong talented you just can't always settle for outside shots oh man now they'll play him sometimes at the five where he's very effective of course with Chandler here now he's at the foot there's a crossover by Rose right into stoddemeier a tip in try but the big men won't go now with three on two Shumpert from Anthony and they got back Chicago did not a bounds and it'll be New York's ball oh they're changing it's going to be Chicago's ball that's a good call right there how about the nice transition defense there by Chicago just when you thought it was a three on Two and a nice move on Landry fields goals have a nine and five road record they've played 24 games overall and this is their 15th of the season on the road and there's a travel those nine Road went tied in the in the league with the Pacers and the Thunder for the most Road wins interesting listening to coach Thibodeau talk about you would have liked to have started all these games home games no practice time not even no shoot around times because of all the back-to-back games and on the road games as he called them a lot of Ballroom practices it's stottlemeyer and silver boozers so they're getting stodemeyer going he now has seven points he's taken five shots so far this damn Tony you're encouraged by the Stars that's a three by quarter who continues a rookie says for his rhythm now the other night in Washington he was absolutely terrific from way outside with five threes shooting about 40 over the last five games story thank you very much saying it's the first turnover right there Jared Jeffries has come in for Stoudemire just extending that conversation about Carmelo Anthony it's it's not just being a great scorer but it's being a great all-around player and we know he can do both he can score anytime he wants on the floor and I like it because he's going to command double teams and he's got to be a willy passer gets other guys involved he's going to make scoring for him Rose contorting inside Jeffrey is resigned nine points from corvo leading the 18-6 Bulls eight points from Fields nine from this terrific building a lot of memories in here including for Mr Miller a great speed by Rose trying to get Noah going early and Noah has started two or three and Rose has got five early assists in guys draped on him let's see what happens when Landry fields and the marsh tires are scoring look how open the middle is now because you've got to honor those players on the outside a couple dribbles you get into the paint those are such a talented score those shots come easy for Carmelo Anthony Brewer picked up his first personal foul for the Chicago Bulls and Greg was just talking about the point guard issues it's been an inconsistent season they have started everybody on this defense like it at point guard but really you know what they had their point guard and it was Chauncey Phillips and of course they had the they waved him with the uh amnesty waiver so they took advantage of that and the 10 million dollars is still being assessed but does not count but the point is they had a leader they had their point guard and villains they had Raymond Hilton here as well who's now in Portland but yeah you're absolutely right Chancey Phillips has the calming influence and it's been point guard by a committee here and now it looks like I don't know Anthony is trying to take his hand at it as the Bulls lose the ball out of bounds plus I got to figure out how Mike d'antoni's offense is going without a great point guard anyway I mean you know that that's that's the key to the engine well it's been Steve Nash for so many years when he was in Phoenix it'll be interesting to see what Baron Davis does once he comes back [Music] I'm talking before my name Tony and needing the the point guard to run that offense now he hits come under some criticism and he admits I'm on the hot seat here it's uh we should be showing a little bit more progress and we just haven't been doing it well you're 8 13. you've got one of the most formidable front lines in the game in Chandler and Carmelo Anthony and Mari Stoudemire and you've had the second easiest schedule to start Taj Gibson look at the report card this is my corner season report for the Knicks you look at all the C's and D's it's because of maybe not having that point guard to be able to facilitate all this is why they've been struggling offensively Chandler coming in as he flies off the miss that wasn't your report card at UCLA we were looking at right there well I know I mean I I just suggest just a simple it's an academically I'm sorry you know that was uncalled that was I want to let you know that at UCLA a season ago with Dallas he brings that Championship flavor to this New York Knick team Nancy anything about New York when he came people thought that they're a shoe in now they're going to be one of the powers in the East but that's what his name did the fall off so grateful for these fans or the expectations were so hot look in all fairness too no practice time because of the abbreviated system there's no way these guys could get that spacing and be able to play together so that's been a struggle roses started to a fine trying to say to stream they find the open Brewer here is portable three shove inside Chandler pushed it Chandler was pushing Noah inside that's the second on Tyson Chandler so Noah is so active on the offensive glass seems like he always has inside position on his go see yeah number one at the top of my list number one for the Bulls I just love his game fields he said he he was your favorite player yeah he's my favorite player in the game I just love the way he plays Gibson have led by as many as six the Knicks have had the latest greatest two New York is shooting 47 percent Chicago 63 shooting in the first quarter Noah wants him to start a mile it's in the you don't settle and because of his skill level because of his strength when he gets into the paint I would be hard-pressed for him to take a lot of jump shots because he could put so much pressure he with a shot Amari has taken 11 shots he's canned seven he's got 16 points for the Knicks and nashik is scared to come out there on the perimeter because he knows the Mario will drive right by him out of Miami has the last seven points for New York that's why Amari to me is much more effective when he plays a center position but obviously he's got Tyson Chandler down there at the start of game leaning inside Gibson couldn't get it stodemeyer claims it with his first rebound [Applause] Stanford defense was an interesting story too as we talk about Carmelo Anthony and Landry Fields he was off to such a great start as a rookie of seasons ago people thought he might even be the Rookie of the Year in the NBA and then the deal came with carmelo and it's like Fields kind of lost his way and wasn't a factor as the season while I'm down started the season when it was him and just Amari playing fantastic shooting the ball tremendously well then hit the rookie wall and then the trade happened for Carmelo and that really affected Landry and Amar'e Stoudemire because there was a lot of standing around watching Carmelo at the offensive man and then when you put that together with the lockout season with no training camp very limited practice time that's why their offensive the New York Knicks has really struggled they haven't had a lot of court time together Ronson for Gibson wondering if he's going to play in all three of these games but you're thinking about Lamar Stoudemire I'm thinking about Iman Shumpert and Tony Douglas I've got Derrick Rose tonight Rondo possibly I think he's gonna play tomorrow it's a good point and then you got Darren Williams the next day you're going creaming the crop when he's talking about point guards [Music] man off the ball Jimmy Butler observation about Rose he said you know he he takes such great pride in every position every game and you can see him with his play of course uh the added pressure being a number one overall pick by kid is has really been a great success story his father left the family when he was just a baby his mom kicked him out of the house at 13. he bounced around from house to house a family took him in in not a great running team but you're right 10-0 with fast break points that's what the Knicks need to be doing against the Bulls so the numbers right there in Chicago who shot a little over 60 percent in the first quarter held serve with the same accurate scoring and then of course the great play of Derrick Rose he has been all over the floor as we get more now from Craig Sager well we mentioned earlier in that first quarter how Carmelo Anthony was getting everybody involved two assists and no turnovers in that first quarter but the second quarter he had no assists in four turnovers it's not all on Carmel although the team had 11 turnovers in that second quarter coach about that Tony said they look like a fish out of water Kevin and here comes Rose inside looked like Chandler was reaching in if that's on him that'll be number three the thing is they bring in chamber as a free agent when the lockout was over that is the third against Tyson and it's so hard if you're not having practice as we've talked about already to incorporate all these new parts whereas there's really been very little change in the way that Chicago has been constructed and what they're doing well look you bring in Tyson Chandler who is a Defender shot blocker defensive player with no practice time how are you going to work on spacing how is Amari Stoudemire going to be successful because he needs space down low where Tyson Chandler is and on the other side you've got Carmelo Anthony who as you look right there gets the ball mid-range and the ball sits so with not a lot of practice time it's very difficult for these Knicks offensively to get a flow really the roster has been different for Mike D'Antoni each of his four years here in some way former fashion they have changed things he was in the final year of his contract we talked about the hot seat that he is currently on he had mentioned he says you know what I'm being chased right now by the policy I just gotta hope I can turn it into a parade look this is not all of our coach Mike Dan Tony guys have to step up look at themselves in the mirror and start to play better obviously it hurts not having a true point guard someone to facilitate the offense and again I'm going to stress I hope they're not putting that much pressure on Baron Davis as he is going to be the Savior for this team because at 34 you don't know what Baron Davis you're going to get at all that was my question what what kind of Baron Davis are they going to get the winner played at Golden State he was so much a part of that great upset and here's a steal and take it in there's some nice defense and points off turnover that is a very small number so far for the New York Knicks but they come up in fact that was the first one in this quarter well you talked about Baron Davis the one that was in Golden state has a nice block there by Amara Stoudemire and the foul and Omari started Miami or are you going to get that Baron Davis who was 20 25 pounds overweight with the LA Clippers the nice dump down by Noah to Boozer that block looks pretty good you got it right at the peak maybe got a little bit of risk but what do they always saying hand is Carmelo Anthony Carmelo's done his job early on he got guys involved now it's time in the second half to start looking for his offense and there's there's no defense for this this is just one dribble pull-up and then you go to the other side fakes like he's going up one dribble to his left it just Rises up over the smaller Brewer Anthony's got two he had missed a couple games because of an assortment of injuries who talked about the ankle he had a an injury to his thumb and with Brewer at the free throw line before that before he missed these two games he had a string of about 16 we're shooting about 32 he was really struggling and the team reflected that and when he was not playing well the team lost nine of ten games including three in a row when you're a shooter when you're a scorer and you've got a wrist injury as well as a thumb injury it affects the way you hold the basketball rotation your follow through and I think that's what he said to himself look let me take a couple days so I can get this thing healed up so I can help the team he was hurting the team trying to play through it two and a half in the third Anthony Douglas for the privilege he got a hand on it the quick releasing range and out of bounds the turnover [Applause] to look there by Korver but here now the offense is starting to stick I know Carmelo scored the last two buck the last two baskets for the Knicks but it's been one pass I would like to see him catch the ball in flow cross green down screens with the shot clock running down and make a move as opposed to just getting the ball and wonderable now watch everyone's going to start standing around ah Watson has come in for Brewer two to play two minutes defense much improved this year we've done a lot in the offseason working on Anthony right there all nice rejection by Gibson as the shot clock was going off it began with the perimeter defensive Korver who's worked on that and then Gibson inside nice series defensively for the Bulls great series defensively for the Bulls and it's the shot clock expires right there but again this is the offense that everyone is scratching their head if you're a New York Knick fan there's wins for the nuggets Steve Watson just picked up a quick foul for Chicago that's number one look at Mike D'Antoni who was offered the Chicago Bulls job and the New York Knicks job at the same time and shows the Knicks because it paid more and so the second choice is Tom Thibodeaux the reigning as we mentioned before the reigning coach of the year and he's the reigning coach of the month in the year they've played there's many if not the most Road games of any team this season so far if you looked at the schedule the way it started it was the Bulls and the Lakers with so many games early and really the injuries that Derrick Rose missed five games double digit Miss of games will Rip Hamilton six games lost by luvalding and they found ways to still lead the Eastern Conference and win for 18 and six it's a shame that and I don't know any of the ins and outs of the schedule because what they had to do with miraculous putting in 66 game schedules for these teams 124 day footprint had they put more games at the end of the schedule as opposed to the beginning so that you could almost like extend the training camp event that was interesting for Coach Thibodeau and his thoughts about that half the start of the season the first month regular in this part they have very hectic regular schedule later on kick off the guy's bodies probably would have adjusted better Butler Noah with the rebound number seven and could now put it back in yeah you got to go up stronger than that they have gotten fouled but you got to make sure they see all Shields with a little sleight of hand who'd any
