foreign I cannot begin to tell you how legitimately excited I am right now we have something extremely exciting to unbox for you today a lot of Buzz around this product it really doesn't need an introduction even though I'm giving it one anyway Enter the Dragon [Music] welcome back everyone I'm Caleb Dennison and you have arrived at an exclusive for now first ever unboxing of the Nakamichi dragon now if you're not familiar with the Nakamichi Dragon already let me just briefly describe what we're talking about this is an absolutely over the top nothing else like it out there 11.4.6 Dolby Atmos dtsx surround sound system it's Loosely based around a sound bar surround system concept but it's really way more than that as you're about to see everything about this is custom everything about this is over built in fact apparently it's extremely complicated and involved to build it's expensive to build there's never been anything quite like it before we're going to dig into it here shortly but a couple other notes about this this thing absolutely lit up CES earlier this year uh the video we did on this was the best forming we did out of CES the interest was super high and if that's not enough proof for you when this went on sale just 500 units that limited quantity sold out in 45 minutes flat and the only reason it took that long is because nakamichi's website broke only 500 units were produced because again it's hard to make these things although they are ramping up uh production and so more of these will be available soon but the interest in this is high and I understand why we've never seen anything like it before but enough talking about it I want to unbox this thing for you and along the way explain what's unique about it and what's gone into making this thing and why I'm so excited about the performance that it's going to offer obviously this is a little bit different than anything that we've done before so bear with us I mean we're talking about a 140 pound box here which as you can see is a little bit bigger than what we're used to when it comes to sound bars I've just placed myself here next to the Dragon for scale let's get into this thing [Music] okay so as I get started I need to mention that uh Nakamichi stresses quite strenuously that uh this is a two-man job don't unbox this by yourself I of course am breaking the rules because I kind of have to so let's get into it at the very top we have a leatherette uh bound booklet with product information in it cool but also this is supposed to be super easy to set up like a five minute setup job once you've actually got everything unboxed and put into position so we'll definitely be testing out that theory as we go along a couple of boxes of accessories this has a remote a premium HDMI 2.1 cable as well as the main power plug and in the other accessories box here it looks like we've got subwoofer power cables and Surround speaker power cables right because it's all Wireless signal transmission but we still have to power up the the speakers off with the first level o foam I'm gonna make a mess here and I don't care right up top is the sound bar and I'm actually actually gonna have to stand up so this is going to be about 40 pounds on its own I believe and uh you know it's been five or six months since I saw this thing so it's bigger than I remember it being but let's go ahead and slide this guy off for the big reveal good night look at the size of this like I said guys No Holds Barred apparently they have to have I believe it's an auto manufacturer create the the steel uh they have to cut the steel for this thing custom because there's nothing else out there anything remotely like it this is number one of 500. of the limited edition that's pretty special I hope we get to hold on to this for a little while so what you'll see on the front most readily are the AMT or air motion Transformer tweeters this is like a folded ribbon style Tweeter it's not actually a ribbon but a folded compression style Tweeter that you'll find in Martin Logan speakers as well as golden ear technology and a few others it's rare to see this in anything other than an extremely high-end speaker of course there are drivers flanking these tweeters for Left Right and Center as well as on the sides and on the top I'm not going to dig into how many drivers what size they are right now I'm gonna leave all of that for the full review I just kind of want to have some fun unboxing this so let's go ahead and get this monster up on our media stand not yet I won't I need to move that TV back you hear that siren they're already sending the fire engines because they know there's going to be some fire up in here alright so we will ignore the fire engine we're going to place this up on our media stand now would be a good time for me to mention that because of the height of this sound bar you're going to have a hard time putting it in front of any TV I can't think of a single TV that has a stand high enough to sit up above the uh the sound bar portion of this system really Nakamichi suggests that you wall mount this sound bar and they suggest that you use their custom wall mount for it because it's about 40 pounds and about 58 inches long they're concerned about Safety and Security also it's going to look best if you use their wall mount but if you were to build your own you need to be really careful due to the weight you'd want to get bolts into the studs and the whole nine might as well just buy their Mount I suppose or if you are going to use it on a media stand like we have here you're going to need to build a riser for your television so at the bottom of the TV gets up above the top of the sound bar anyway this thing is massive it's just it's so big that it just it has this Authority it's not trying to be spelled or slim it's it's not apologizing for what it is which is a big Burly sound bar and I kind of like that about it you know what I mean like if you're gonna go big just go big speaking of going big this is not relatively speaking even the biggest piece of this system so let's keep digging into this box all right so more foam to get out of the way here I guess we'll go with the surround speakers next and save the subwoofers for the very end so these surround speakers even are really unique in a few different ways one of those ways is that they're very hard to get out of this foam enclosure here we're gonna have to work for this I understand why they said make sure two people unbox this I think I might be able to Wrangle one out yeah here we go okay so here is one of the surround speakers and if you're used to seeing surround speakers with the Soundbar system you know that this is bigger than anything else that's out there so we have a dipole bipole design here where we have drivers and tweeters on either side and then we have our top mounted Atmos driver which is actually aimable so you can turn this around to aim the driver not just in different parts of the room but at different angles going up which I think is a really interesting factor for this power goes in there and then yeah you're going to need a pretty substantial solid speaker stand for this once again Nakamichi makes a stand although I believe these are a standard quarter 20 threaded insert in the bottom of the speaker so you might get away with using an aftermarket stand of some sort but look you're going to spend 3 500 Plus on a surround system like this you might want to go with the custom stance that they make for these which I believe like the wall mount for the sound bar are supposed to be available in August give or take anyway two of these guys now let's move on to the subwoofers all right we have two subwoofer enclosures to pull out here I'm going to try and do this without any help although that's probably ill-advised yeah you know okay said I'd show you guys everything that includes me making an idiot of myself all right here is one of the two subwoofers now you can face these any way you want to um but this is technically the front got a port here and then on each side is a grill hiding the uh the driver underneath again we'll talk about driver size and uh power ratings uh in the full review uh but there are two individual subwoofer drivers in here with their own amp get their signal wirelessly what's really interesting about these Subs I'll pull the other one on a second I'm losing my breath is that each sub can be turned on or off each subwoofer driver that is so you can have one of the drivers in this sub enclosure activated or both of them activated likewise you could have one in this one active and one in the other subwoofer active you could have three active you could have just one of the four active or you can have all four active the idea is that you can place these subwoofers any number of different places in your room and engage as many drivers as you want to get the right kind of power in your bass response but also the right kind of linearity and smoothness and punch highly customizable we have never seen anything like that before certainly not in a sound bar style based surround system let's get that other sub out all right both subwoofers out now we'll get into the performance characteristics of these later in the full review but one thing that I can't wait to do is the old knuckle test which they buy back uh they're well-built cabinets um I kind of expected them to be a little bit heavier but I think that's more a testament to how light the amp is itself pretty sure these are using digital amplification and without a gigantic power supply attached to the amp plate they don't necessarily need to weigh a ton um not yeah that's there's some good bracing going on there too so I'm I'm hopeful that these Subs are going to not just make a lot of Boom but also be free of major cabinet resonance and uh and provide some nice deep low bass but also some musical bass very hopeful about that that's the one thing that I wasn't able to really accurately gauge in the demo situation at CES there's only so much that you can listen for at a time we had very limited time uh so I'm so looking forward to this deep dive and really finding out what this system can do and a lot of that is built around these subwoofers I mean having four different drivers at your disposal and all that customization is kind of exciting I don't know about you but I'm looking forward to this all right now that we've got it out of the box it's time to start with the setup I understand that there's a a pretty comprehensive on-screen display that comes out of the sound bar so we're going to get that all wired up everything's going to get plugged in and then when I come back we'll take a look at the setup for this thank you [Music] all right y'all so we've placed the surround speakers and the subwoofers temporary placement for now we just want to get things up and running everything's been plugged in except for the sound bar which I'm about to plug in now also have the user guide handy in case I need it but I have a feeling that I will not supposed to be a pretty straightforward setup so we're going to carefully plug this guy in and see what happens I'm going to want to check out the on-screen interface sorry turn my back to you all right so full disclosure I actually had plugged the sound bar in earlier and much to my surprise it started lighting up with this crazy surround sound demo I was trying to duplicate that for you didn't work out I think maybe the time had passed it knows that I plugged it in before so it's not going to do that every time you turn it on but man it was quite the introduction and I didn't even have the subs turned on yet so anyway let's pull up the dragon on the TV shall we so this is the on screen display for Dragon it's already in Adobe surround mode although I can manually adjust this to any number of different sound modes we're going to cover what these are and what they do some of them are self-explanatory but we're going to stick with Dolby Surround for now it also has a number of different equalizers um this one right here provides maximum intensity and sound pressure level loudness there's also equalizer option again we'll look at these in the full review and talk about which ones are going to be best for which applications if we go into audio setup we can get really specific about how the subwoofer is set up I'm going to leave them all on for now and not mess with any balance right now I'm just trying to show you what's available through the on-screen display I mean granular control it's all here base level treble level uh The Equalizer settings as I mentioned before you can set some favorite settings to match up with what you want to say I connect the turntable to this and I want a certain kind of setup for the sound I can do that or I can just go for good old five channel stereo if I want to anyway it is pretty comprehensive and that wasn't even the advanced audio settings so there is a night mode um we can adjust for lip sync we can adjust the crossover frequency which by default is set at 200 Hertz which is uh interesting and then there's a dialogue level control for DTS X if it senses it which is nice with um Dolby it's going to be set by the input signal and that's all of the audio settings and it looks like there are some video settings as well CEC settings there's a video upscaling option which is interesting we'll we'll check that out and see how well it works and then we can get into a calibration mode this I think is where the uh the quick setup is supposed to to happen so you can choose between a medium small and large room it's medium by default I'd say this is kind of a medium room so again I'm going to leave it alone I really want to see what the out of box experience is like but if we go into yeah I mean this is just like an AV receiver we can specify the total listening area the distance um to the left and the right Walls How high the ceilings are where the surround speakers are relative to the main unit here same for the subwoofer like you name it it's here but I get this sense that uh you know I can go in and dial some things in on my own but I just want to hear what it sounds like uh right out of the box without any adjustment so let's do that [Music] too strong I can't hold it okay so we have really just started to scratch the surface of the how complex this system is but I hope you've enjoyed the unboxing process and experience uh it's just the beginning of what we're doing with the dragon now as for my first impressions of how the dragon sounds right out of the box with like no tweaking whatsoever laughs you're gonna have to come back for the full review Thanks as always for watching everyone did you enjoy the dragon unboxing let me know down in the comments don't forget to like And subscribe you don't want to miss the full review I'll see you on the next one and until then here's two other videos I think you might like
