[Music] do [Music] hi everyone welcome to a meadow update i actually have two mini meadows i want to update you on right now i'm standing in the back garden in the original meadow that we sold last year and it looks very different this year with much more muted tones i can't wait to show you and i also want to give you an update of the front meadow slash medallion meadow that we just sewed this year let's go [Music] a couple of months ago we started the medallion meadow we chose this beautiful elliptical shape to soften the edges of our long and thin garden to prepare the ground we simply decided on the shape we wanted the meta to have and then remove the sod with a shovel and a long edger then it was time to prepare the seed mix i chose a beautiful mix of annuals and perennials so that we could get colors for several years mix it all together and then sewed it i've decided to sprinkle some compost over simply because a lot of the seeds need to be covered to germinate well also to be protected from bird and from drying out too quickly typically wildflower meadows will not require rich soil but because we have that tree that pumped all the water and the nutrients away from that space i know the soil is pretty poor and then it was all about watering to ensure the seeds could germinate properly and that the seedlings would have enough moisture to develop correctly and just waiting [Music] [Music] [Music] so we did leave some small patches of grass within the meadow where i planted spring bulbs to try to get them to come back next year [Music] [Music] with july rolling in color had arrived in the meadow we probably will have to wait until next year to see many more puppies because we sold pretty late and they would have needed a period of gold that we didn't get because of unseasonably warm weather [Music] some corn marigolds are already appearing and we should see corn cockles and other blooms appearing pretty soon so stay tuned and make sure to subscribe to not miss out any progress updates on meadows now we're heading to the back garden for the first meadow we created in the garden last year in january 2021 we covered the soul for three months sewed a mix of annual and perennials and a couple of months later add beautiful colors from the animals it was truly a heaven for pollinators and a really beautiful space full of colors this year 2022 is year two of that meadow so at the end of the season it was cut back and the grass was kept short over the winter [Music] in the second year of the meadow i was really relying on the perennial seeds we had sowed back in 2021 and it was already really green and we add some buttercups the first flowers of the season the meta was a lot wilder and more natural this year i spotted some clover and some lesser trifoils thanks to the person who i did that plan for me and the kittens absolutely adored playing in the meadow by doing the white clover i'd started blooming and that was really beautiful the bees loved it [Music] i really enjoyed the mix of white and green it was really lush and peaceful we also had some early oxide daisies and they see that of the grasses looked beautiful but then the kittens claimed the space [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so this little wildflower medal really became a playing ground but it still held a lot of beauty [Music] most of the color again was from the oxide daisies but in early july we're starting to see some of the corn cockles come through [Music] [Music] i wasn't quite sure what to expect in year two with the perennials kicking in i think though in my head i was expecting more color even though we did get some blooms i think part of the reason why we didn't get a lot of blooms was the cats that really used the meadow as their playing grounds but also none of those seedlings that we sold earlier in the year came up i had added some puppies and corrupted and other rarities and for puppies i should probably have done an autumn sewing to help them get the cold that they need to germinate we'll see we'll try again next year you can see here where they run across so if you want the look full of colors that we got last year definitely rely on the annuals and i would say start from a bare soil from scratch so that the seeds have the best chance of having no competition and then germinating and flourishing properly [Music] still will you be sewing a meadow in your own garden it's beautiful well i should call it mini meadow because really it's a small space but even a small space can make a difference for pollinators and rewarding your garden is really beneficial thanks for watching i hope you enjoyed this video and i'll see you next time bye [Music] you
