My UGLY Toyota Tacoma Roll bar!

welcome back to Rob motive today I wanted to talk about sport bars for the Toyota Tacoma you know I'm on my second one on a different Tacoma but it's still a third gen so there's really no changes as far as how the install goes the bed size or any of that crazy stuff but anyway I've had to currently on my 2023 I've got uh the tiger Sport Bar previously on my magnetic gray metallic Tacoma I had the black horse so let's take a look at this one this one I got because it's designed to enable you to use a tonneau cover now sparingly because I can only open mine one panel if you will I can only open it one time this way and that's it because the bracketry if you will for the sport bar gets in the way when I Fold It Forward and I did a video on this previously by the way it should have been the last video that aired I think so if you want to see what I'm talking about check that video out but when I fold this forward the edge here actually sits right up on top of here and that means you could not fold it a second time however the fold to do it a second time is actually right about under here so whether this corner hit or not you could still not fold it a second time so while you can put a tonneau cover on with this particular brand of sport bar you're limited you're limited as to how far you can actually open it up and if you're a person that needs full access to the bed frequently that's going to be a problem for you now another difference between the Black Horse and the tiger sport bar is the third brake light treatment people have commented on the channel that this is Too Tall well there's a benefit to having it tall and that is the ability to put a light bar an LED bar on top and have it Shine over the roof of the truck so I don't really have big issue with that I understand but it also enables you to just utilize the third brake light that's built into the truck you can see right here right so you don't have to have a secondary or another third brake light because that one would be covered like it was with the black horse not really a big deal although it is pretty much redundant the bar on the black horse is lower so it blocks the third brake light it has a built-in LED light in it problem with that is is if anything ever goes wrong with it you pretty much have to replace the whole light itself not very convenient although replacing the bulbs in this truck probably not the easiest thing to do in the world either I've never had to do it it is more chunky looking because it does sit higher you can see looking at the side of the truck it does get up about above the roof line a bit whereas the black horse would have sat more even with the roof area here the other difference in this one is that it is just the bar itself the front part uh on the black horse it extended out with another tube if you will and it kind of went down to about right here or so I like that I think that was a better look I think it kind of brings it all together a little bit more without a tonneau cover on this truck the sport bar in my opinion the tiger bar just does not look right you have to have something down here to continue it on if you will for aesthetic purposes if that doesn't bother you and you don't care then it's not a big deal I will say if you don't have the Tonneau on it it does have a cover that screws in from underneath here to cover up this Edge about like that it's black of course not not my hand and gives it a more finished look otherwise without the Tonneau it would just be open now the one other problem I have with this other than not having the tube continue for aesthetic purposes is the way that the finished product looks you can see the bar sits quite a bit above or the bracket rather above the tonneau cover leaving uh maybe a one inch or so Gap I'm not a big fan of that look I actually wish it was a little bit lower I know why they did it it would be much more difficult to install Slide the Tonneau into there if it was tight some people might even damage the Tonneau in doing that because it is just a vinyl material so I get it I get why they did that but I just don't think it looks as good as it could if it were a little bit lower as far as the quality I will say the tiger bar does seem to be a bit better quality the finish on it the shipping no damage nothing like that on the Black Horse bar I actually started to develop some Rust down here at the edges maybe around the seams which they do a good job of hiding here you have covers to cover up all of the parts where it comes together so you don't really see that the Finish is I would say pretty much perfect no issues at all with this sport bar I did have problems with the black horse as I mentioned I had some areas where it was welded particularly where that bar connects here that extends out where that weld was starting to rust I had to touch it up a few places it came with a couple of scrapes one little dent I guess which fortunately for me was down below their collar but it was dented it just wasn't very good packaging it's almost like they just threw it in a box put a couple of extra pieces in there and called it a day definitely not substantial enough to ship something with the kind of weight that the these are now I will say Weight Wise they were about the same I'd put them somewhere in the and I'm guessing 75 to 90 pounds something like that they're not light but not so heavy that you can't handle them yourself I did put both on myself although the black horse is a bit more Awkward because it has those bars that stick out that add weight to the edges and you're trying to balance it put it on the truck you have to be careful when you're using that one so that it doesn't slip over the side and damage the paint here and you could see that happening if you had this thing kind of candy cornered you're lifting it on in this area were to slip over you could easily damage the side of your truck of course not something that you want to do the treatment on the sides I'll mention that lastly both of them of course have their logos on the sides of the bar with these covers I put them about even really I put a back panel on mine that's how I came up with the lime green it's just a Plexiglas piece that I painted and then double side taped around the edges it it's held on really well there's no issues with it I did the same thing with the black horse although it actually came with I believe it was a red Plexiglas piece that you went ahead and screwed on there were a couple of bolts that held that on that is one other thing I'll mention the bolts on the Black Horse and there are quite a few actually began to rust as well they have bolts along the sides on their panel over here those started to rust of course from putting in a tool to tighten everything down all the bolts on here are hidden what holds these pieces on I don't know if you can see them on the inside over there but of course since they're not exposed you don't see any rust or anything so just a little bit better quality I think on the tiger Sport Bar than the black horse so what is my favorite it's the black horse I gotta say I don't hate this sport bar on the truck but honestly I don't like that it is so tall even though there is a purpose for it and it doesn't have the side pieces I think those look good on the truck I may actually look into putting a couple of those bars that you can get along the sides although I'm probably limited on Space just to kind of continue it on if I guess I decide that that would look good who knows it's up to you in the end it's personal preference everybody likes different things I like the black horse a little bit better leave a comment let me know which one do you
