i know this is the most random thing to do while being surrounded by uncles in chinatown but today i'm exposing how much i earn in japan and fingerboard [Music] before starting i want to let you know that the the point of this video is not to brag about my salary well in the first place first place i didn't really earn that much but uh the point is to show you the differences of not only a salary uh some of the working culture some working work rules between japan and singapore so here it is my letter of appointment i'll get straight to the point my basic monthly salary in singapore with 4 600 singapore dollars now the position was a marketing executive um i was working as a digital marketer uh to to to optimize some of the websites earn more money from the website ran by the company okay so how much did i earn in japan i don't know i'm starting to feel awkward being fully transparent with you how much i earned in the past but uh in japan i worked at the sales at a relatively big company it was my fourth year and my pay my basic monthly saturday was 230 thousand uh jpy so that's around 2800 singapore dollars per month so uh you can tell it was a big jump in saturday when i when i moved to singapore however this is excluding the the pay for working overtime so uh i think on average i earned around like 300 000 yen including the overtime payment so that's around like 3 800 singapore dollars that's like working overtime for one to two hours every day so that's why when i first got my job offer in singapore i was really happy because my pay went up and plus i didn't work overtime so every day i would go home at 5 30 p.m and that was awesome and it's normal in singapore or at least in my company to to leave on time okay how about we go deeper into the subject by talking about the differences in singapore versus japan regarding job scope working hour overtime payment annual leave and working concert but before that i need to get something all right cheers i only used to sugarcane shoes but i learned that abc is so good too okay the next one we're talking about uh job scope in singapore versus japan in singapore a job scope is very well detailed they are written in the contract but in japan there's none i mean i mean there is a job scope but they're not written in the contract and uh even though you have your own objectives and goals you will notice yourself doing lots of irrelevant jobs like serving tea to your customers uh even cleaning your office uh also helping out your senpai which is uh which is your superior is very common in japan especially when you just newly joined the company however one of the cons of the japanese system is that you are likely to become more of a generalist uh rather than a specialist secular so as a customer i personally like the japanese system where um people are very uh they'll they'll help you out they'll try to help you out regardless of your job school but as a worker i kind of prefer singapore style because i can concentrate on only my job scope okay the next one is working hour in singapore it's common that you're in the office for nine hours you'll have one hour of lunch break meaning uh you're working for eight hours but in japan uh it's less slightly less it's 7.5 hours in japan deducting the lunch break yeah you probably know but um the japanese work a lot like working from nine to eight is very common uh some people work until nine to nine nine to 10 19 11 however it's kind of changing in japan as well uh some some big companies especially they're very strict on overtime now so they they let everybody go home but at the same time there are still so many companies making their employees work over time and not recording it so they don't have to pay for overtime in singapore you can claim overtime depending on how much you earn so if you're a non-workman meaning you work at like the construction sites uh if you're earning up to two thousand six hundred dollars you can claim overtime uh if you're a work man like a like a white cotter uh like a businessman uh you can claim overtime if you earn up to four thousand five hundred so anything uh above two thousand six hundred two thousand five hundred you cannot claim for overtime in japan you can claim for overtime if you're not working at a management position and i believe this management position can be set by each company meaning there's there's no law and management position uh salaries okay so next one is also very important for everybody who's working uh the amount of annual leave [Music] okay so this is when you first join a company in singapore the general number is 14 days as in japan it's 10 days an amount of annual leave increases as you uh work longer now this is my experience which is like seven years ago so uh maybe the time changed but when i when i used to work in japan i felt really bad taking a leave because most of people they won't use their annual leave and they will never use it up and also they will work so long every day and if you use up your annual leave some some people will think you you have no job you're bored you have nothing to do and of course this depends on your company your team but that's that was that's just my experience whereas in singapore oh man it was so easy for me to take a leave it felt like nobody really cared as long as um you're getting your job done but how about the number of public holidays this number might uh surprise me yes japan actually has five more uh public holidays in singapore and that that's pretty cool right so if you work at a very flexible uh cho company in japan uh you can combine the public holidays and your annual leave and take like a lot of vacations actually the big ones are the golden week at may we also have silver week at uh september obon yasumi which is like a summer vacation and the new year but again i believe most most of the workers in japan will not be able to take so much vacations uh the reality is that um i feel like the public the 16 days of public holidays exist to 44 you have the japanese take some rest because if not they won't take it okay next one is the amount of sick leave singapore gets 14 whereas in japan we get zero so this is also something that kind of shocks the foreigners because in singapore and you know the european countries uh they'll have a sick leave but in japan in general there is no sick leave right so uh if you if you fall sick you're gonna have to use your pros and cons because i i know so many cases where some evil workers will kind of pretend like they're sick they'll visit the doctor and say i have a headache or i have a stomach ache and they'll take a sick leaf press the like button now if you've ever done that termination wise it's very easy to terminate someone in singapore whereas in japan it's more difficult because the law protects the workers in japan lastly i wanted to talk about the working culture but i actually made a comparison video before so you can you can click the link here or the link in the description box [Music] this thing never disappoints so in conclusion um it was it was great working in both countries in japan i learned to pay attention to small details and also learn how to be a thoughtful businessman in singapore i was able to work in a more global environment foreign however if i receive a lot of emails um it's going to take some time for me to respond to you so keep that in mind anyway thank you for watching if you enjoyed it please leave a like uh feel free to comment i'll see you again bye
