hi I'm Sarah and I'm a saxophone player squeeze today yeah what's quite obvious John is gonna give me a saxophone lesson to do introduction this is my husband John John is a professional musician his instrument is saxophone and clarinet I'm also a professional musician for better or worse my instruments the recorder I have never played a saxophone there's never too late to start oh yeah do you think I could become professional yes easily within two weeks let's do it so what is this the saxophone any particular kind of saxophone tenor saxophone okay why have you chosen the tenor for me it's the one that I could find that is the normal one reason you should start a musical instrument because it's the one that you can find am I gonna play this no this one's mine you play the other one okay I'm gonna put it together right there you've got the neck that's this bit mm-hmm you've got the mouthpiece now get that thing on there now you're gonna need to read this is upside down you want to feel that if it doesn't go on then it's upside down upside down upside down so that the other ways down is in like this thank you that is good I just need a sticker read on there decade where's my you mean so complicated very unsustainable individually round plastic packets ooh it's a lot of plastic personal lighting plastic yeah that's true that's why you should play the recorder on to put on your mouth and hold there for a while just kind of swish it around oh yeah what do you expect this summer not that I had to suck it [Music] that sounds good I thought to find it's quite easy to be honest it's really easy but I'll get the big sex wrong bit that's right this is why I don't teach so put that little hook through that read this watch I'm sorry brother Han yeah see you're liking your reading again stuff get hold it up like oh they're out on the air this is really important I learned this way too late it's excellent plane yeah but the saxophone has to come to you not the other way around so you don't want to be like leaning all like this this Hotspur has coming to me yeah maybe a bit much then I scan the neck a tiny bit if you need to make sure you loosen the screw first ah but you didn't tighten it so that's also fine let's tighten that a little bit oh just like recorders I'm good I mean they'll give the breath supports the same is recorder so you got that's an advanced technique here overblowing it could be squeezing the reed quite hard or overtones oh look over scale okay let's start I'm sorry middle seat and we'll go down to Lizzy just something about it [Music] why is my heart beating so fast my heart's beating fast because of the way I'd swoon you and I play sex in your throat imagine that you're swallowing a hard-boiled egg so your throat has to be really open but this has to be tight but not too tight oh we didn't say anything about how you've played the top part oh I see you're doing it wrong and I think also because your teeth go on the mouthpiece by teeth go on the top and not on the reed your lip goes over and teeth on the reed yeah like that like so maybe you should play mine come on yeah we'll switch sides it's that good fun works [Music] so first impressions it is it's it's kind of a bit easier than I thought yeah I told you it's easy super easy it's but it's easy to blame like this modal register and go yeah yeah you got your finger on the wrong buttons yeah to like around as it were yeah but okay how do I play hi I think that's a beautiful thing about saxophones way easier than clarinet or this kind of food or especially recorder yes it just has an octave button so I'm gonna press this button it with your phone and whatever note you're playing is exactly one octave higher can you teach me something cool yeah where do you want him I want to do slap tongue slapped I can do song okay from copper Makoto ensemble pieces because I thought this could be something I could play so but you have to practice this a little bit because like middle seat led is hard to get all six fingers and the key [Music] okay so try to play the first big prize are you good the rhythm doesn't change just resistance x4 I think they're in the problem I'm feeling very confident I think we can try it you're going to just start it up like that 1 2 3 [Music] we found my geese it's the peace thing very goose like because it kind of honking on the day you find a bit more salty you don't have to play and blow through this x1 just imagine you're really going through you have to go through this little pipe should we try the marvelous music but what was music box yeah yeah now that I learn how to play subtle yeah okay I'll do the bottom line the teacher like yeah [Music] and that was as good as nice little yes you got the thumb in there absolutely it's funny cuz I get dizzy when I play recorder I think recorder takes so much more air than this the thing is with recorder there's no resistance so the eye just flows with this I feel like I'm pushing like more resistance have you got any more tips for me teacher who knows energy saxophone ha ha this is like DJ got no idea I just blow the thing of the notes come on I mean you must have practiced yeah I practice but I didn't practice telling somebody what I was practicing ok importance in eyes apparently being a musician ending it teaching musician on my neck really had yeah this thing so I never use these when I play my I usually use one of those harness things we just jam [Music] [Music] my job [Music] [Applause] [Music] in conclusion no hyenas put the saxophone down it's really another handy thing to put down magazine say John can you tell me honestly how did I do even have a better ten Wow so well where's my room for improvement I take patients they get one note something really good before you move on to the next note maybe that's a good thing for my viewers as well patience patience is a virtue do you think that people should play the saxophone or the recorder don't play neither don't play music it's not a viable career path don't do it yeah I would say it translated pretty easily to the recorder but only insofar as noodling around on the middle register and the thing apart from that I have no idea and it's physically extremely demanding my neck hurts my arms hurt my face hurts my heart is racing to be honest it feels pretty terrible what do you do this why he make this your job John plays a lot of instruments he plays clarinet banjo trumpets well seal a whole bunch of stuff so if you want to see John teach me anything else as always you
