My First Road Trip ALONE

[Music] hey what are you doing what are you doing come here this cat has decided to come into my backyard like every day that i've been here i've never seen it before hello sir hi guys so i have been in palm springs for the weekend i originally was coming on a friday and i was gonna leave on sunday and then i was just having a good time so i decided okay i'm gonna stay sunday night i'll leave monday and then i was still having a great time so i stayed through monday and now today is tuesday morning and i'm actually going to leave so here's the thing i could go back to seattle today but i actually don't have to before i was a real estate agent you know i could always just do whatever i wanted but now these moments where i'm like oh my gosh like i don't have to be somewhere or a bit more rare and i want to take full advantage of it so i don't have to be back until thursday afternoon the idea of just flying back to seattle today doesn't excite me so instead we're going to rent a car and drive up the coast i've never done a road trip by myself but this is something that i've been wanting to do for a while it kind of scares me but yeah that's what we're gonna do we're gonna have a nice 48-hour solo trip now i wish i could say i'm spontaneous enough to just drive and just pick a spot to stay but i'm not so i'm gonna decide before i leave here in a moment where to stay thinking either monterey carmel or big sur i think the one i've landed on that i'm gonna do is the hyatt carmel highlands they have an ocean view room for 300. it's really good for an ocean view room i love a good view all right we are all booked and ready to go so i'm at the airport i decided you know there's flights why don't i just fly into monterey and go from there it's a lot easier i'm just kidding the rental car agency is just at the airport [Music] all right so i actually got upgraded to this big old nissan murano my dad and i actually road tripped back to seattle in one of these back in december and i remember it was super comfortable to drive all right we're doing this it's real why is the bleaker on ah windshield wipers what a start so i have my two road trip essentials here and then we will obtain the third one is sunglasses you need sunglasses in case it gets bright these were two dollars at ace hardware then i've got a hat and then the hat is helpful for you know shading a little sun as well route 2 hyatt carmel 6 hours and 48 minutes 435 miles to go that's crazy i don't think i've ever driven that much by myself in a day if you guys need a good thing of music to listen to i have to give a shout out to my friend aviv because he put me onto this it is the playlist happy beats on spotify it's really good okay let's go ta now says 458 [Music] i've been driving for about an hour and a half just got off the freeway because i saw a best buy and i need to go do it and i really need to pee i've got no clue where we are i don't think we're past la yet [Music] so i got a tripod and a hard drive still got five hours to go this is how we're doing and back on the road [Music] it's a little sad i usually stop here with shelby i'm all here by myself getting gas you've gotten through like the kind of mountainous terrain part when you get out of la you kind of drive up this grapevine thing and then down and now we're just in flat farmland 244 miles away that's actually much better than i expected i was going to be like kind of depressed if we were still in the 300s i've actually made a decent amount of ground so i'm proud of myself can i get a grande cold brew with a splash of almond milk [Music] oh my god i forgot that i ordered a sandwich at starbucks a while ago made it to a rest stop i mainly wanted to judge the architecture at this rest stop oh i've totally been to this one before it's very underwhelming you look at it you're like not much to it but it's got a little bit of charm check out the ceilings post and beam so cute mid-century modern love this tile very fun corrugated metal hate the smell soap in bathrooms at rest stops it's just the worst smell we just got off i-5 north and we're about to head on 46 headed west so interesting i've been on i-5 north and i-5 south up and down california many times but this is my first time on this 46 west freeway i hate this freeway this is so creepy we are just surrounded by the oil things it's 46 miles of this opposing traffic right next to you that is not fun we are now saying goodbye to 46 west and getting on the 101 101 north do you guys see that in the horizon there's a fat cloud we are just a mile 1.3 miles from highway one like the coast and i just see this fat cloud in the horizon and i'm so scared that the coast is just covered in clouds it wouldn't be out of character for it but it is not what i imagined for this afternoon and now i'm really nervous because it's sunny right here it's sunny we will find out in a matter of minutes [Music] no i refuse to believe this cloud is real we are gonna drive through this we still got eight miles to go we're gonna drive through it and this is not gonna be at the hotel no we are officially in clouds [Music] i'm so sad it is cloudy out but hey you you can still see the water and i didn't know it came with a deck very nice and yeah you got this water view that entire seven hour drive i pictured myself this afternoon drinking wine with the sun looking out at the ocean on a deck like this well here is the room we've got a king bed sitting area a fireplace real wood burning which is cool but it also kind of scares me this is kind of funny they made it like a panel ready oh no they didn't it's just an old fridge okay there's a fray oh i thought it would have like a whole mini bar section okay i've got a keurig then here we have the bathroom vanity area here dressing area i suppose and the toilet and the shower so that's the room it's definitely a little dated like you can tell doesn't really matter when you have a view like that out there my room is right next to the pool so that's actually kind of cool it's embarrassing but i can't figure out how to open this door like it's locked on that side and i like lo i feel like i'm like locked in here i'm so confused i'm hyped for this only one person in spa at a time so i get to have it to myself when i do go in it looks really nice is like actually super cute [Music] i got this local wine a seagull just like tried to fly up on this deck with me right here by my food it it first flew past and was just eyeing my food i know what you're up to all right so the seagull won that battle it's 8 p.m i'm thinking it is now or never with uh starting a fire maybe this is very millennial of me okay millennial here um i've never started my own like indoor wood-burning fireplace like i remember as a kid my parents our first house we lived in had one nowadays new builds don't have that they have gas fireplaces this hotel and me are not really um we're not really lining up but i'm trying there it goes there goes i did it i did it oh my gosh look at this cute fire it's kind of scaring me like i'm not used to real fires that is a really cute fire and i started that fire oh my god look at all those clean things [Music] this sink is odd do you see where the drain is it's not in the middle it's like way over here [Music] good morning to everyone except the sun i'm just gonna say there are two types of hotels in this world ones that have nespressos and everyone else this is a depiction of how coffee makes me feel oh alrighty from the restaurant i ordered avocado toast with crab and i'm very curious to how it's going to taste and look oh so the crabs all on the side there's a tomato looks like an heirloom tomato this is amazing i think crab is way better than lobster this year has been a crazy test for many of us and one thing that we have seen in the real estate market is people looking for seclusion and an escape so today i'm showing you a really special home in the carmel highlands i ended up spending my free day connecting with real estate agents in the area and filmed a house tour of the 10 million thank you so much for showing me this amazing home yeah for sure thank you for coming so that tour will be on my channel very soon and then went to get delicious mexican food at a restaurant called koltera with the agents keenan emily and it was so much fun okay i'm back from a long day of filming i have to get back to seattle tomorrow by 5 30 pm i need to be back in seattle at my house and um i i haven't booked my flight yet i have a couple options on what i can do but i can't make up my mind on what i want to do i'm gonna go to bed tomorrow morning we'll figure it out [Music] it's still gray in case you were wondering i've had this dilemma where i could fly out of the monterey airport and it's only 15 minutes away it'd be so easy but it's expensive um the only flight leaving to seattle non-stop today that would get me back to seattle in time is 449 so the other option is i could fly out of san jose but that would be an hour and a half drive and the flight would be 160 but i don't want to do that so both options aren't great so i went on the alaska airlines website and i was like i wonder how many miles it would take like if i booked with miles instead of what would it be i'm assuming it would be a bad deal you know miles are usually i think like 10 000 miles gets you like a hundred dollars off a flight that sort of thing is kind of how i've noticed it kind of works i was thinking you know i'm just gonna check i'm assuming if this flight costs over four hundred dollars want to use like 40 000 miles and that would be so stupid in a waste of miles to do that on a trip from monterey to seattle but i just checked and actually guys it's 12 000 miles so i think it's actually a really good deal because it'd be 12 000 miles that i would use then i wouldn't have to be paying a 449 dollar fare so i'm doing that for sure i honestly think this is like a mistake in the system it's giving me this option it's saying 12 000 miles plus five dollars it's also saying i could just pay the full price or if i wanted to do miles and money i could do twenty thousand miles and two hundred thirty four dollars like how crazy is that this is just a worse deal it really worked travel hack even when you think oh it's probably not going to be a good deal to use my miles just check just in case because i was pleasantly surprised i need to get to the airport by i would say 11 30 so the clock is ticking i've got three hours left and i really want to make the most out of these three hours let's go [Music] so i parked too close to the wall here so this hotel has a beautiful restaurant it overlooks the ocean so you would think naturally this morning i would go enjoy my breakfast up there but i instead got my breakfast to go because i think i know of a better spot no restaurant can beat this i have to say i think this is the first solo trip of mine that i can say i fully enjoyed every moment of it and i wouldn't have it any other way i would not want anyone to join me i just loved being by myself in the past i've done some solo trips but i've been totally willing to admit that it would be more fun with someone there but i think with this location like big sir carmel the california coast it is just so nice by yourself and i'm so happy that i did this i wish that this trip wasn't coming to an end if i didn't have to go back to seattle i honestly would hop in my car and probably spend a day in paso robles and then stay there maybe drive up to san francisco seriously i would just become like a road trip queen because now i think it's so fun and i can't believe it was something i was afraid of got a little bit more time i want to squeeze in one last thing i've never been to downtown monterey and it's right next to the airport um i'm just going to route to the monterey bay aquarium i'm assuming there's probably a lot of touristy stuff over there yeah i've got about 45 minutes left [Music] well here is monterey it's so cute wow so many fishing boats out there i think that's what they're doing right fishing there's just something about seeing a very coastal cottagey-looking building like this that makes me want saltwater taffy this is everything i expected monterey to be it's nice to just quickly walk around see what it's like here you know maybe one day i'll come back and actually stay a while okay i made it to the airport nissan murano you
