who's [Music] know I got my first inter hey guys I am stressed so here's the situation I'm a current senior in college and I feel like every single person who is also a senior in college has their job lined up already and it's really just just stressing me out cuz I haven't even sent out my application anywhere and just a little bit about me I'm a biom major but it took me 3 years to find out that I don't like bio very much and by some Stroke of Luck I got into a joint bachelor's master's program in computer science so I am fully ready to eject myself entirely out of biology and into computer science however that means everyone else who is in computer science has 3 years of experience on me so I'm really far behind everyone and it's just really making me nervous but I decided and I'm documenting this that I will be applying to as many jobs as possible and how I plan to do that is one revising my resume cuz she needs a lot of help to sending out my application to just as many places as possible at this point I don't even care where I go I don't care who takes me I just want somewhere to go and three grind interviews and for me because I want to go into software engineering that's Le code so yeah that's the plan and you guys are going to come along with me as I do all of that here we go [Music] okay I'm going to revise my resume and I'm so bad at this kind of stuff but my friends are really good at it they actually took some time over the past couple days to help me with this and I'm so so grateful for them because if I didn't have them I'd be screwed so what I'm going to do is take their edits into consideration and then revise as much of my resume as I need to because she is not very strong right now we'll see how far we get but I got to start doing it otherwise I'll never get a [Music] job okay this is going to have to be it for now because I have to go to class but be some progress on the resume and hopefully we get out by tomorrow fingers crossed yeah hey guys it's been a few days and my resume is finally done so I think I'm going to start sending out my applications oh my gosh I've been putting this off for so long I'm like months behind everyone else but fingers crossed I'm actually going to do this in bed cuz I'm feeling lazy so okay so I've updated my resume still pretty bad but it's as good as it can be o I'm so nervous I'd be happy if even one place got back to me first thing I'm going to do is make a spreadsheet so I can keep track of everything I'm a pretty unorganized person so I think having everything written down in one place would be very helpful I'm also going to use a Chrome extension called simplify my friends were telling me to use this to autofill the job application information so I'm going to see if I can figure this out okay even with the Chrome extension the first one took me a really long time to fill out but I'm about to turn it in this one's to uh Snapchat I really really doubt I'd get it but it's like an apprenticeship thing for new grads and apparently you don't need to have a lot of experience so I'm going to set my app into this but I am not expecting anything okay first one we did it yes okay so now that the first one's done I'm just going to spend a little bit of time to do do like a ton more so here we [Music] go all right guys I've come to realize that I am very very very slow at this cuz it's been 3 hours and I've only applied to seven jobs it's almost 3:00 a.m. and I'm getting really really tired so even though I've only applied to 7 I'm still pretty proud of myself cuz I've been putting this off for like literally months so I'm proud of myself even if it's only seven applications I will do more later but for now I really need to sleep so I will see you guys [Music] soon hi guys I've applied to a few jobs and right now I'm moving on to the interview stage so I doing leak code problems and taking some notes and I will be doing that until I get a job so I'm just going to stay on the grind so that's what's going on now the software engineering recruitment process includes a few steps before you actually get an interview with a human the first step is usually an automated resume screen and if you pass that you sometimes get sent an online assessment or an OA this is usually a timed coding Challenge and I did not do so well on my first couple hey guys quick update about drop stuff I got rejected from Tik Tok not once or twice which kind of sucks but sorry I took two o which both went all right one of them was really bad then I still have to take one more OA and now I'm just going to keep spamming my application everywhere so that's the status and before I knew it I graduated without a job I had spent the past few months applying and getting rejected and applying and getting rejected again and again to the point where I just decided to stop applying Al together I decided to focus on finishing school and also getting some more experience while preparing for interviews luckily that summer I met someone while playing volleyball and he happened to lead a tech team for a startup they didn't have the funding to take on another paid intern but he said I could go into the office and get some experience by interning with them I gladly took the offer and spent the summer learning as much as I possibly could about software development much of my summer was also spent preparing for the technical interviews for software engineering you'll often need to do an interview where you code in front of a current engineer who works for that company and guys I was so bad at this luckily there's a website called Le code which essentially contains a bank of questions similar to those asked during these technical interviews so I was grinding this like my life was about to end like guys I would literally be leak coding anytime I could such as at this sushi restaurant [Music] I got my first interview let's go first one ever since I started applying yes let's go I also learned that attending conferences is a great way to get jobs and I was lucky enough to receive funding for the Grace Hopper conference for women in Tech so I flew out to Orlando Florida with hopes of finding a job but because the job market was so terrible at this time I was surrounded by 30,000 other people who were also looking for a job I got super lucky though and managed to land a couple interviews at the conference but they didn't go so [Music] well hey guys did my first technical interview today it did not go so well I even knew the questions I just I felt really really rushed and I didn't even have time to fully explain myself myself and I feel like whenever I try to write the code my interviewer would stop me ask about something else and then told me we were out of time and it was just it was it was not good it was not good but I'm glad I'm glad I did it it feels like that was my only only shot but I know that's not true but it's just a really tough time right now and I felt like I blew my only shot so not doing too great right now hey guys just got back from the gym and I'm sitting in my car thinking about just random life stuff and how I'm how I've been unemployed for a minute well okay not entirely unemployed cuz I'm doing some contract work right now but I really just want a full-time job but I was just thinking of when I really get to start this new chapter of my life I want a curved monitor I don't even know where exactly I was going with this thought I just saw an Instagram reel of a curved Monitor and I was like damn I really want a curved monitor where I can do my little beep boop cating type a little bit here and there have my big ass curve monitor it just I want that so badly guys I really really want that it's been tough though not going to lie it's been really tough I really want to document the grind right now the job grind part of me is just really embarrassed first of all that I don't have a job and most of my friends do seeing everyone else moving on to the next chapter of their life but I'm still just stuck in this transitionary phase and second it's been really hard for me to find the energy to honestly do anything productive I just feel so behind and so silly and stupid for starting CS so late cuz now I am way behind everyone else I'm so grateful for the interview opportunities have and also the contract work I'm doing but damn I really really really really want that full-time job like all I can think about is how badly I want to move on to the next chapter of my life yeah I really want that curved monitor guys I really want it I saw that and I was like yeah but I'm just going to stick with the grind hopefully I'll have good news to report back soon [Music] and I love you another rejection today from a company that I actually did interviews for not just like an auto reject I feel so stuck I feel like life is just ped right now I'm not making any progress this sucks guys this actually sucks hopefully soon got an interview today for Bloomberg that I haven't been preparing for cuz I didn't think I'd get another interview and that I'm probably not going to do so well out because it's Bloomberg but yeah I'll be le coding this felt like the home stretch guys things were falling into place and I was finally getting some interviews then before I knew it I got a couple phone calls it's November 14th [Music] and I didn't stop interviewing though just to see if I could land more offers and make the decision that made the most sense for me but the burnout was quickly kicking in and I also got ghosted by a few interviewers and recruiters which didn't feel great it's 1:32 and my interview is not here but finally here I am working as a software engineer well actually when I took this clip I was working for a startup but I literally just quit a couple days ago cuz the remote lifestyle didn't really suit me and a better opportunity came my way I'll be talking more about this in future videos but before I sign off do you guys remember the curve monitor I was talking about earlier hey guys I joked at Wisconsin today to pick up this huge curb monitor that I got on Facebook Marketplace it's original price is maybe I don't know like 600 700 maybe even more but I got it for [Music] 200 this thing is mive this is my head actually my m is in my head Sor that's that's uh I don't know normal size monitor like it's huge I'm just so excited to set up my desk with this guy I can't wait thanks so much for watching take care of yourself and I will see you soon [Music] go
