supposedly going to some weird chop shop in Savannah I'm not sure I've only heard things I've heard Whispers we're about to meet one of his buddies here and he's going to take us over there he's already seen the car we have not so this is definitely going to be an interesting morning we may buy it we may pass up on it what give me the whole specifics of what it's in the ghetto with Savannah okay and you'll see when we get there if you ever never seen a chop chop this could potentially be one he says most of it's there he said the offenders and the hood are not there but everything else is there and then a grill and a you know I didn't see those but I think that that stuff is there okay so we're basically gonna have to dig a little bit and he says he has everything pulled out oh let's go and check this out and see if we can get there [Applause] well I'm just hoping that this car comes with a whole bunch of parts that we don't know about it's got a rear in it this will bring spring Bob back to the 1960s we are definitely no strangers to rusty cars but let me tell you nothing can beat James's optimism when it comes to saving a car I had some reservations on the fact that there was pretty much nothing to go with this Nova but after hearing James out on his restoration plan we loaded it up on the flatbed and took it home whoo we just got 62 Chevy to Nova I've had this thought process as soon as I saw it I I said this would be a good car to build for my dad when he was 19 he had a 64 Chevy 2 Nova that they had modified and made a race car out of it basically a street legal little drag car a little hot rod and him and my mom used to drive this thing around and get into races and they would go to different towns and race different guys in Indiana and basically a long story short he ends up getting in a lot of trouble and this car basically got him in enough trouble where he was spending a night in jail one night and then the next day he actually had to go in front of the judge and the judge said to him that hey you either go in the service or you're going to stay in jail for a little while so he said okay and he went and basically got into the air force signed up for the Air Force One Thing led to another he needed the money the car was on blocks at his dad's house he told him to sell the car basically never saw it again so for the past 20 years we've done nothing but talk about a Chevy 2 Nova and he's looked at 20 different Chevy two novas from 1962 all the way to 67 but he's looked at him from inoperable to fully restored and working and has never pulled a trigger on any of them a Chevy two novas were a unibody so they did not have frame rails and this car actually with our Basket Case of parts that we got with it we got a frame rail kit for it and that's what I'm doing I'm putting the frame rails in right now as you can see here and we are going to build our own floor pans which I think is going to be a lot of fun [Music] to kick off this restoration we dropped the rear fabricated a dolly and welded the body onto that cart and began mocking up the motor and transmission mounts [Music] now that the motor and transmission are in place James is wasting no time on making this car solid again [Music] that might save a life the roll bar is solid car maybe not so much it's awesome it's a good roll bar it was a pretty productive week here this week we finished up the roll bar as you can see in here looks really really good the back panels and I got started on the floor pans so framing this in and making these floor pans make it it's all fairly simple work it's just time consuming uh it's turning out really really good I'm pretty happy with it and I think uh it's really really the whole car is actually coming together really really nicely [Music] foreign it's really exciting to see the seats getting put in and mounted so I have made mounting brackets these seats came from Summit now I'm working on steering hooking up the original shifting here to the power glide two-speed power glide transmission then work working for about seven hours now on the Swiss cheese Nova which is what I'm gonna nickname this thing because there are nine million holes in it I just need to get the metal on it patched up just enough to where we can basically spread on the concrete the Bondo and smooth this thing out I'm looking at about three weeks I'm on day two um so I've got quite a bit done at this pace I should be able to get most of the body panels buttoned up I'm really excited to basically get this thing done and see the look on my dad's face when I present this thing to him because he has no idea [Music] all the body work on the Nova is finally finished now we're moving on to a high Build primer to really fill in all those little tiny little holes and everything and just make this thing really nice and smooth to start that process for doing all the removable Parts like the front fenders the hood and even the trunk lid so we're gonna start there and then we're gonna move on to the car [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay so we are here at our local paint shop because unfortunately the candy that we ordered from Summit just really didn't work out we weren't really happy with the result of it and the color so we are here trying to get a single stage match non-candy hopefully just you know metallic basic to match the original color see where we go and let's hope this corrects our problem okay so funny story although we said we wanted to match the original color we took into consideration that the fact that the photo was pretty Sun bleached so we decided to go down the hot rod route instead let me tell you how excited I am to see this thing come as far as it's come it's freaking straight I'm gonna be honest when we first bought this car I really didn't think I was ever gonna see this day or at least not this soon I am so stoked for myself and for James because I mean if you guys saw how this thing looked before I just can't even fathom that it's come this far but I'm most excited for Bob to see it because not only so much love and literal Blood Sweat and Tears that has gone into this car via James and I I you know I can say I did some work but James really put his heart and soul into this car for you Bob and I just cannot wait to see your Priceless reaction because it's gonna make every moment terrible and great of this car worth it [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] we have just finally put the gas tank in finish up the straps now we're gonna tighten all this up fill our necks in and Alex is working on the front end which is desperately needed some serious bushings which it finally has farther and farther we get into this car the more and more I'm starting to believe I think Bob's actually gonna love it so I'm actually really excited now [Music] well now the time has finally come to get a headliner in the Nova we have spent endless hours getting this thing completely painted inside and out now it's all prepped for the headliner and even though we are Professionals of Headliners just kidding we're terrible at Headliners we're going to leave this one to the professionals here at Coastal Headliners and upholstery Richard did a killer job on the charger so why wouldn't we bring up the Nova right back to him so I cannot wait to see it done let's get this thing off trailer we are currently trying to make a padded uh Dash so far so good where's the padded part which is pretty easy well what's going to go over the top of that we have some faux leather [Music] viable and beautiful cohesive looks pretty nice yes it does padded Dash now that we have all the dash pieces and headliner in it's time for front rear glass this stuff really made a huge difference when it came to feeling the progress that we've made over the last few weeks because we've been in a lot of effort this is everything that has to go back on still plus more boxes are showing up tomorrow these I'm rebuilding these quarter Windows these vent windows not quarter Windows vent windows and uh yeah they suck um we do have some new new trim coming in and new windows so they'll look good after I'm done but slowly for surely we've gone from four tables to two and the pile keeps getting smaller so the car is getting built all right picked up the drive shaft from Savannah this morning and it looks absolutely awesome they did a good spin balance on it it was quite pricey but hey man you can't put a price on what I'm giving my dad right [Music] foreign Okay so we've had plenty of wiring issues here and there through broken gauges and broken sensors but I think crossing my my pinkies all my fingers all my toes if it's all gonna work so oil Works fuel works all this didn't work but it should work when I turn the key so hey we have a volt gauge we already know the oil works we already know the fuel works 10 party works but now our attack has power see and our Speedo has power now it's kind of the matter of calibrating our speedometer and also making sure that our attack works when the engine's running we are just about finished with it but these finishing touches that have to be done to it it's crazy we're having water pump problems we're having some wiring issues but we're tweaking it out it's it's just you're building a car from scratch it's basically what I've done and it's what I'm calling the parts spin car because we've basically taken every Chevrolet part that I've been saving for the last five years and just throwing it throwing it at this car so we're getting close it's really turning out to be an awesome car um Dad I hope you love it [Music] I'm very nicely done I'm very glad I ordered a new headlight switch because I had to wire I had to wire the power to the dimmer switch to the tail light option on here because it's bad but I have power going in and power coming out on only one terminal on here let's see if the air shots work oh yeah anything keep going keep going sounds like they're leaking okay show me show you the money show me it's gonna work oh okay the first test drive are you ready yes totally ready is there anything you're nervous about uh I just hope it doesn't catch on fire you know from the shoddy wiring job it's been done to it you know I'm just gonna let that one slide I'm extremely excited uh we're gonna see if we can get this uh electronic Speedo calibrated I don't know if we can or not it'll be fine um I'm never doing another electronic uh gauged car though it will all be mechanical I I there's a questionable alignment on this thing right now questionable alignment questionable suspension let's do this [Music] I have no idea what that is we have a reverse yes [Music] it's loading up yeah big time we got the float Bowl issues yes we do come on it's not even up to Temp yet either foreign well I would call it a success so Speedo works and I don't have to calibrate it which is great because it's like perfectly on the money all the gauges are working great thermostat's working great the only thing that's not working is the fan the electric fan that's going to be needed to be troubleshooted but everything else works yeah so I say we can button pretty much all the wiring up and call this a success rock and roll Dad it's all for you I think I think you're going to be very happy with this car so we're T-minus one day until we leave and last night we discovered something really gross that is the coolant that we drained out of the Nova well let me just tell you how important it is especially if you're using an older engine like ours that we've had sit in our shop hasn't been outside but we didn't flush it before we put it all together brand new radiator brand new hoses brand new thermostat and we did not flush the motor like total dummy so extremely important if you're going to reuse a motor like we are or even if it's older in general make sure you flush it out otherwise your water is going to look like this thanks to our local NAPA Auto Parts store we have access to premium fluids and additives to keep Bob's Nova running down the road although we ran into a slight hiccup with our cooling system we flushed the block and are now filling it with quality coolant that will keep this baby running ice cold no matter what the stripes put on it and just kind of dress it out a little bit but still maintain that old school look [Music] seven o'clock in the morning we've got the Nova loaded up we've got the engine in the back of the truck for the race truck and we are ready to head to New Mexico it's crazy to think that all these long nights and all the madness we went through to get this car done we're finally here all this is for you Bob let's head to New Mexico [Music] well we made it to New Mexico we're here in Alamogordo we're literally minutes away from giving this to Bob which is he's basically going to freak out I know he is I hope he cries the first time ever before oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh this is like so much going on through my head right now so many years of this guy supporting me and what I've been doing and now we get to pay a little bit back to him all right here we go [Music] just okay so what's up old man good to see you so listen I gotta tell you something oh so I know what you've done for this family you know like all these years how many sacrifices you've made for it and I I don't even know how to express in words how to thank you you know I think you said years ago thanks and that's all you that's all you can expect oh the moment is finally here we are giving this card to Bob I I'm practically speechless because I'm so excited and I'm like trying to make sure I don't mess in this thing any of this up I'm parked a few blocks down from their house and I'm gonna get the queue via text message and I'm gonna pull up and we're gonna get Bob's reaction this is gonna be oh this is gonna be crazy it's been such a long time coming I am so freaking excited here's the cue man uh my crew what'd you do I've been doing something all for you oh no no what's that you're the most deserving man in this world that I know of that uh it helps when you have good behavior [Laughter] thanks years ago that was that's all I know when you hear that when you hear that it's like you know it's worth it I hear something no way no freaking way yeah no way [Music] you can see it in the garage or anything else hi Caroline what what's the deal here it's your car you're kidding love it I love it I love it yes you're kidding me though what what part of this did she have like every time I looked at one nope we're not getting it nope we're not getting it I love it well we got the car as she told us you were starting to look at him we're like okay we have to let her know and she's got to be in on it stop no this is this is too awesome what do you think ah I can't no words no words give me all your kids I'll I'll raise them get them all over here you're kidding me hey this is what happens man hey good behavior right that's that was enough this is what happens that was enough so I gotta tell you wanted a a very pivotal point and ah yeah that's the way I am in my teenage years you know you've been into my life and you took the keys away from me and it meant the world to me today yeah it means the world to me you're doing that so take the keys away from me again except this was for your ride well thank you love you guys love you guys this is this is I I don't know don't know what to say one of those times you deserve it oh bring back any memories I was just thinking about that a couple days ago beautiful beautiful and thank you thank you thank you thank you all this is this is cool all this idea started from this car we found and then we have this picture of you guys was I was robbing the photo just one no no no this was long before kids okay so she was like 16 kid run around the photo and we have this like terrible rendition of your cards one picture we tried to model this car yeah one picture wow but then we spiced it up a little bit [Music] I'll be back [Music] I was fortunate enough to have Bob come into my life when I was a lost teenager going down all the wrong roads he showed me a great example of how to be a good man I've done my
