this is gonna get me like a hundred views like first day today we're gonna be talking about the rode wireless go 2 system and my favorite settings pro tip always hit record before you start recording your vlog i know what would you do without me it's november 1st today and i couldn't get rid of my jack-o'-lantern yet it's too cool halloween today we're joined by audio expert jimmy who is not going to say a damn thing what's up everybody this is jason from e07 media and four love films and today we're going to be discussing my settings for the rode wireless go 2 system so that you don't have to be plugging this in on a set and changing the settings all the time so this way you can just set them up at home have these ready to go and then forget about them and know that you are being taken care of with the gear you have so if you haven't done so already make sure you go online and download the rode app and if you don't have it yet there is a link down in the description below compared to a lot of different brands and different gears apps this app is extremely and intensely user friendly there isn't a lot to do in the app it's very simple as i'm going to show you here in a second but it's super cool that you can just go in this make these changes really fast so you know when you go shoot that your settings are good to go and you can focus on the more important things at hand so first download the road app install the app then plug in your transmitter to your computer or laptop via a usbc cable we're going to go over the transmitters first because they're a little easier to set up first make sure the internal recording is on internal recording is an absolute must it's a backup it's a safety it makes you feel more secure that even though you might hit stop on your camera the audio is still going to be recording on this and let's say there's some kind of interference with the rf signal going to the responder the transmitter will still be recording nice clean audio regardless of whatever is happening through the air in the wireless field the less you can stress about on a film shoot the more you're going to be able to focus on the thing that's important and that's making sure that your client your company your brand is looking good and you're taking care of them now inside the recording audio you can choose either broadcast or standard audio i found that broadcast of course is the better option however having standard audio gives you 22 hours of recording time while broadcast only gives you seven hours and after doing a quick test the sound of the broadcast versus the standard sounds pretty dang similar hi i'm jason and i'm using the rode wireless go 2 system using an internal mic on broadcast quality hi i'm jason and i'm using the rode wireless go 2 system with the internal microphone set to standard quality if you want to change the audio quality be it broadcast or standard first you'll notice that the quality selection is grayed out you can't choose broadcast or standard what you have to do go up here to the record button toggle it on and off make sure it's off then go back down to the selection choose broadcast quality or standard quality then go back up and toggle the button for record back on now when you notice when you first open up your rode central app if you have audio files recorded onto your recorder they will come up in a separate folder called eg and ugg these are proprietary audio files for the wireless go system here's how to export them as waves or mp3s to access your audio that you've recorded onto the internal system of the rode wireless go mic 2 simply open up the rode central app click on the audio recording and it's very easy to scrub through your audio to listen to which audio clip is yours so i click on the name of the file i hit export it's going to ask you what type do you want wav or mp3 for most purposes you'll always want wave 4 800 or 4100 and then you always typically want to go for the highest quality audio you can get but since we're doing this just for a vlog i'm going to go ahead and choose 24 bits which is more than enough you're going to name your file standard explanation if i could spell it'd be way easier you're going to hit export and then you're going to go where you want your video to go and for my it's in this vlog right here i'm gonna select it and boom it's exporting that immediately what about battery life for the transmitter if you're using internal recording well if you choose the standard you're gonna be losing about 10 minutes of battery life if you choose the broadcast you're going to be losing about 30 minutes of battery life when it comes to a unit like this that does not have an interchangeable battery and has to be charged internally having that battery life is sometimes more important than having ultimate quality granted if you are doing an interview type setting of course you are using a boom mic or something similar or a sound engineer and then this internal recording is just a backup and a safety and granted most of the time that backup is going to be exactly that a safety you're going to be recording internally into your camera or a field recorder or a boom mic in a field recorder but having that backup as a safety and the idea that your battery is going to last longer on your transmitters again takes away that stress so in my personal opinion i'm going the standard route all right that's it for the transmitters let's move on to the receiver plug your receiver into your computer using a usbc type cable open up the rode connect app the first option is going to be backlight this option really comes down to you i like having it on especially if i'm going to be outside it's much easier to be able to see the little led screen but having that backlight allows me to be able to see what i'm doing and see the levels bouncing back and forth again giving me a little more ease set your audio gain to fine being able to choose the actual decibel level is far more important than having something like high medium low being able to know where you're at is going to save your button post i like to set my audio at negative 12 db negative 12 seems to be that nice sweet spot and i can adjust the audio inside my camera as well the next option is merge or split mode split mode splits the two mics into left or right hi jimmy but in merge mode you have the ability to have a backup copy very similar to the tascam dr-10ls that have a backup safety at a lower decibel so if something does redline you have that backup that's a little bit lower the last option in the connect app is to set your o button now you can choose several different options for this uh including a mute but we're not going to choose mute because what happens if they accidentally hit this and you're not monitoring your audio like you should be granted i understand you're in a run and gun situation sometimes you don't have that option to monitor so don't have that option as a mute instead select marker and that's going to show up in your post production so you know where certain elements start and then go into it knowing exactly where that little bit is in post-production making editing that much easier it's really that easy i hope you guys enjoyed this if you did like this go ahead and hit the like button and give us
