foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] welcome back to the channel folks today I wanted to go through the equipment that I take out on a multi-night canoe trip get a lot of questions on the channel about what gear work you take in the actual canoe itself embedding sleeping cooking cooking pots all that type of stuff so I thought well I've got a weekend at home I come down to a little Lake here and just take some footage and to uh just take you through all the equipment that I use and what I've chosen over the years that works for me in my little 11 foot canoe so I'm not going in a 14 15 foot Canal money another about 11 and a half foot canoe here so it's quite a short one but I don't need a lot of equipment and I actually prefer to go minimalist rather than carrying a whole lot of gear so the first item is a tarp I take away this little Alton Goods type it's three by three meters really great really small and lightweight it's only about 782 grams so this thing's really really light really compact as well which is fantastic but it gives me great coverage and is probably one of the first things I set up at Camp because I can throw everything under that if I need to go out fishing or do anything else everything stays dry so I've come out for the day or after the evening come back to the Gap and everything's dry so my preference always when camping even in the summertime when I know there's not going to be rain I'll still put it off a shade and just to make a little bit of a campsite as I said to put everything under and it's particularly good at night time when you're cooking and so forth because it just gives you a sense of home in your campsite absolutely brand for me I must admit very very strong it's been through some pretty strong winds haven't had any issues with any of the corners tearing out or anything like that comes with all the guy rapes you need all the pegs you need aluminum Tri Peaks which are fantastic and it's done a really great job [Music] so tent wise I've chosen this little uh Big Agnes copper spare ulv2 tent weighs 1.42 kilograms very very light um a little bit fragile but I wanted something that was small compact and light it didn't take up a lot of room and the reason I go for Light Equipment also is for Port charging so if I've got a Portage and carry this gear across rocks and so forth I don't want a whole lot of weight so the light is better for me I can take a bigger 10 obviously you can take as big a 10 as you want but for me something small is great it also comes with a little footprint and the idea of the footprint is just really just to protect the bottom of the actual tent itself against twigs and rocks and stones even though I do a pretty good job of cleaning that all out but once again very very small and thin weighs almost nothing maybe 70 80 grams at the most so that is a really good setup okay sleeping mat I've got a sea to Summit ether light XT this is a long version about 625 grams and excellent mat comes with its own inflation bag which you can use also on the little Eros pillow it's reversible which is fantastic the idea of the inflation bags obviously it's much easier to inflate the actual mat itself but it also keeps the moisture out of the inside of the mat which has been an issue with some of the softing fighting mats over the years if you get too much moisture in something they get moldy you basically got to throw it away this has been really really great um I some I'm a side sleeper size hips and shoulders on this guy and it is just super comfortable pillow wise just a little Cedar Summit Eros premium large pillow as I said before I'm a side sleeper so I actually use a two pillow system this gun's a really good base pillow it comes with a locking system that locks onto the mat as well which is good so it doesn't actually move all night it just sits there nice and solid and that's been an absolute Boon I must admit and as you can see really super compact almost no weight at all maybe 50 60 grams the second pillow as I mentioned is a little Nemo filo pillow 260 grams the reason I use this little guy it's not as compact as the other ones but it's far more comfortable to sleep on the problem with the other little Aeros ones and so forth is yet to get the heart you have to have them drum tight and then it's quite uncomfortable for the side of your head so this one comes with a nice spongy filling underneath the actual air blader itself so I put this one on top of the little guy and that gives me the height I need to sleep on my side but it's also much softer and it makes for a very very good night's sleep I must admit now from a sleeping point of view I have a three bag system first one is just a little cotton liner I'm not sure how much this little guy weighs it's just a little Cedar Summit long cotton travel liner I use this one because it's really good in the summertime as I said I'm in subtropical Queensland so in the middle of summer on the humidity all you really need is either this over draped over here or most over the bottom of your legs or something just to give you a bit of comfort but I use that then with a liner as to the other two sleeping bags as well so my first little sleeping bag is ultra compact as you can see it's just a synthetic sleeping bag it's only good to about plus 10 degrees and this guy's a little Roman Palm one compact sleeping bag and it weighs 800 grams but that's only good to plus 10 degrees Celsius so once again this is your Autumn spring type of sleeping bag colder nights you put the liner in gives you that other two or three degrees Celsius as well but really really small and Light which is fantastic so this it gets used to probably 80 percent of the Year here in Queensland it only really gets cold for about three or four months of the entire year and even then if it's only on my West where you're getting the colder colder weather so I've had this for a lot of years it's been absolutely bulletproof you can also unzip it and make it into a duvet which is also a very flexible option on those warm and Ice you can just kick it off and pull it on as you need and that's been an absolute godsend as far as sleeping bags are concerned so last year I decided to get myself into a down sleeping bag for the winter months this one's a cedar Summit Trek TK 650 Loft but it's good to minus eight degrees and weighs 1.8 kilograms so it's a little bit bigger and heavier but this thing is just fantastic on those cold nights so I get down to about minus five minus three never to zero but certainly right down close to those sort of numbers and this has been absolutely brilliant in fact most nights it's probably a little bit too hot but like the other sleeping bag and most modern sleeping bags you can also open it out to be a duvet but it's a beautiful soft comfortable sleeping bag fluffs up really well compact comes also with a storage bag which I really like which is about three times the size of this to store it over the summer months and so forth once again a great investment really happy with the sea to Summer products they make excellent products and this one's certainly been really great to sleep in okay so once I've got my bedroom set up the tent the top Etc everything's rained inside there some days I'll actually put in the sleeping bags and get that all set up depending on how much time I've got other days I just throw it all in and I'll do it once I get to bed at night seating wise I'm using this little trekology easy ghost built with a Y 925 grams this thing is super comfortable I have to admit I would not go camping without this chair now it's just create so much comfort at night time during the day and so forth just to be able to relax around Camp super portable you'll see in different videos I take it down to the river I'll take it wherever I'm going just to sit down have a beer look at the stars a cup of tea and so forth it's a really really great little chest super compact as I said 925 grams and worth every cent so you would have seen plenty of times I'm sure in camps and so forth May set up with these two different types of coolers or rescues this one's a little 22 liter rescue this one is absolutely brilliant keeps your beer all your food ice cold now I travel always with fresh food I'm not interested in dehydrated Foods unless I'm doing something ultra light where I got to carry a lot of gear and so forth I might but very very rarely there's no reason today why you can't take out a cooler that size or in the winter time when I don't need something quite as good from a cooling perspective I can even take this little guy out just a little bit of cool food in it and then I have another food bag that I use for dry foods and so forth and ingredients but these guys will carry things like meat beer cheese butter that type of stuff and milk fresh milk so you don't have to take away all this dehydrated stuff you don't have to take away uht milk and so forth or creamers or powdered anything take fresh food you're in a canoe you've got the room this guy goes behind my seat and this guy goes tucked in the arm under the back of the seat as well takes up almost no room so these are really really great and a big difference when you're camping I much prefer to be able to eat fresh food than to suffer through packet noodles and all that type of stuff there's just no need in this day and age to do that these coolers will keep it ice cold even in the middle of summer here in Queensland and the Tropics or subtropics it'll keep my food and beer really really cold which is really well worth it thank you so from a cooking setup all of my cooking gear goes in here so in here's pots tables Cutlery inside puppies I'll take you through in a moment the only thing that's not in here is a frying pan and a plate but everything else is all this one little bag and it keeps it all just in one place nice and easy this goes in the day back in the back of my canoe which I'll show you in a moment the idea being is if I'm going to stop for lunch so all my cooking gears in here quick and easy out of the actual day pack take that up onto the bank somewhere get food out of the dry food or the adesky and I can make up a quick lunch cook up a brew whatever I want to do so you would have seen this stand beside my chair this is a little boundless Voyage table just Falls flat as you can see this is the bottom of the bag it's about 350 grams but well worthwhile it's just nice to have something beside the chair rather than your Esky to put hot things on hot pans hot Cups of Tea and so forth but also things like salt and pepper milk and then you're using it to cook with it's just handed to have somewhere out of the dirt and the sand to be able to put that on and that's been an excellent investment my younger brother recommended getting one and I have to say it's been a really great idea and I use it every single time that I go camping now from a cooking perspective as you would have seen in my more recent videos I bought a firebox stove or as my daughter says me my beloved Firebox stove it's fair product cool because I do absolutely love this thing it's brilliant it is heavy it weighs more than a kilogram I got the full kit with the different grill plates and so forth and it weighs a lot but it's worth every single gram to me so I take that out in this little bag here but inside I also carry a couple of the fat wood sticks these are the best flyer lighters you can get these things are waterproof obviously very very good for the environment because it's just natural Timber you know chemicals it's not cotton or anything like that I take a couple of those things to start fires with use with stunning the Firebox as well shave a little bit off the top you can light it with a cigarette lighter you can make it really fine and just light it with a sparkle or igniter so that's been a really great investment and I'm really happy with that cooking pot wise I've got this little GSI Pinnacle soloist II cooking pot it's about 305 grams this thing's absolutely Brown in here comes with a little plastic cup which I'll show you in a moment and it's also got enough room for a little stove so I have also a MSR Pocket Rocket 2 stove I can just put that in here as well and a little canister in the bottom and it's just a compact little setup so I've got it set up at the moment though as I'll show you in a moment I also have cups in here I have the actual transia stove inside here instead because I'm not using the canister stove anymore I've tried to revert back away from that using a little Trend you want if I desperately need it or otherwise just using timber in the actual Firebox stove itself so inside the actual bag itself the bag itself is really clever it's actually waterproof so you can actually hold water in this so This actually is your washing up bucket you can fill up with water and soap and so forth and use that to wash your dishes if required as I said the pot itself is great it's a lovely light aluminum it's fully anodized and the actual lid has holes in it so you can use it the strain Goods as well which is great little insulated cup I don't actually use a cup I must admit it's a bit too short and flat for my liking but it is insulated which is nice just a little bit of neoprene on it that's quite good but that'll actually fit the canister underneath little titanium Cup this is about a 440 mil one Weight Wise no idea maybe 15 20 grams super light it's a nice one off um Amazon a couple of Lighters the actual little transier stove that goes inside the cup it's great a couple lighters as I said you get transient came with a little transier stove setup you can put on if you're going Ultra lightweight to just sit on top of the actual transist over itself and on top of all of that just it's one of these little sit on top cup coffee drippers these are really great if you take one to take out ground coffee and so forth you can put it on top of your cup and obviously just pour water through that but you can also use them for things like um famous cups and so forth and thermal mugs and also big thermal bottles and so forth to fill them with coffee Vision one as well because you can just put as much coffee as you want and keep adding it keep adding it and keep adding it so they're really good actually all that just Falls up inside there and is nice and compact other items I have in that bag it's one of these long titanium spoons little Cedar Summit one really great if you do have dehydrated food but also really great in that pot if I'm actually making up a pasta dish or something like that where you just need a longer spoon that is a quite handy one just a generic Old Timber spatula great for pancakes in your frying pan that type of thing weighs nothing once again just a generic one titanium cutlery set you can get these anywhere these ones are finesse City would you believe off Amazon quite cheap but just great little ones they've actually got little spanners in the end of them even but once again titanium is really good it's really strong weighs absolutely nothing a couple of knives a little hunting knife a little skinny knife I've had since I was about 16. just an old timer one it's a little great little knife I'd actually like to get myself a um a Bushcraft knife at some point in time just so I can use it for splitting wood and so forth but this one's just a handy little knife around camp cooking wise I use a little upper nail knife I use the carbon blader ones these are absolutely brilliant nice skinny little blade on it cheap as chips got a really simple twisting locking mechanism so you can't cut yourself with a blade and softball really light just a great little knife I'll be honest hold this Edge really really well great for slicing over anything when you're cooking and once again folds up to nothing and you can even lock it close as well little shovel for going to the toilet obviously must have one of those a couple of Hanks of rope this is extra as well and of course your ubiquitous gaffer type as to repair anything around Camp never had to use it I always take it because I guarantee that day I don't take it with me is the guy I'm going to need it so always take a roll of gaffer tape once again why because I've got room I see people putting around lighters and handles of knives and all that sort of stuff I just take the roll with me I've got room in that little bag so why not [Music] thank you [Music] the other item of my frying pan this is a little GSI Pinnacle frying pan with a folding handle this is quite a good one it's a little bit heavier than your titanium type of ones it's a stainless steel rim the aluminum sandwich and a non-stick interior really great little frying pan this is the eight inch version you can also get a 10 inch version a little bit heavier than your normal frying bands as I said but it's really sturdy and the non-stick service Works exceptionally well I must admit this has been an absolute Boon it's just perfect for me and probably enough for two people I'll be honest if you're cooking a meal for two people in this this would be enough room it's a great little frying pan once again just bought it on Amazon I'm going to leave links to all the products by the way at the end of this video in the description of the video itself so any of these products you're looking at just go down and click on the link and Away you go it may be an affiliate link with a bit of luck I'm trying to set up an affiliate program with Amazon so if you do purchase through my link I get a little clip and that goes towards camera gear and everything else for my channel down the track so I'm just looking to set that up now if I can get it going inside I'll put it that way but otherwise go down follow the links either way and you'll still get to the products so from my water perspective I have two types of water carrying systems the first one is a cedar Summit six liter tap pack it's got the little tap at the bottom here which you can just pull off and to fill and so forth but otherwise I hang this from a tree you just push the button fill up your water as I said that's six liters that's usually enough for a trip with a water bottle and so forth if I'm now going fresh water though I use one of these little Source two liter bladders comes with a little Sawyer inline filter which is absolutely brilliant once again I can just hang this from a tree filter water out into cups into bowls and bottles and so forth and I've got endless amounts of water if I'm camping on a freshwater lake or river and I think generally speaking this to me is a much better system because as I said it's endless water but I'm not carrying six kilograms of weight either so if I do have to move camp and so forth or if I'm doing any poor targing I don't want to really be carrying around six liters of water if I don't have to so for fresh water at work which is going to be on rivers of course this guy will stay home and I just use this little filter I can carry two liters in the actual pack itself in the in the canoe with myself I've got a drink bottle in there as well but around Camp I can fill this endlessly then and filter out the water and it'll take out all the nasties and so forth and I've already been using that on my Noosa trip and so forth and it's been absolutely great so from a lighting perspective around Camp I use this Luminate Pack Light Max two in one light this sort of guy is really good it's inflatable solar powered and you can also charge it from home so the idea is you can just pull this out blow it up it hangs out so yeah just blow it up hang it anywhere around camp another great things about it of course is being solar powered you would have seen this sitting flat on the front of my canoe up on top of a dry bag and so forth you can also charge it from home here a little Port there for charging at home but it also has a USB out so you can actually use this to charge your phone so if you're actually on a longer trip and so forth and this is charging all day in the day you can plug your phone into there and also charge that so it has a little battery built in behind the solar panel and that's a really great little pipe because it falls down nice and flat as I said I can just leave it out to charge all day hanging anywhere inside but it's also because it's boxy you can sit it inside the tent so I'll just Chuck this into 10 at night time just illuminate the tent which it does really well and you can just ride around it's really robust that's a really good light the second system I use is a little pencil light comes in this little knocky-like case where you buy the Nike light case separate I should say and that's a really good setup because essentially got a torch inside that it comes with its own little strap which I'll show you so you can hang that up in your tent which I do at night time I just sits inside the tent that's a really compact setup so if I'm going once again ultra light I'll leave that big guide home and just take this little guy I've got a little petal Arctic core 600 land 600 lumen Adobe this is a great little head torch also has a red light the core system is a rechargeable battery the good thing about the rechargeable battery is that you can also take the battery out get it to come out you can charge that at the actual battery itself and you can also then put AAA batteries in the actual Lantern itself so I'll be traveling once again really really handy to have that option but otherwise you put this little guy back in and you've got yourself a great little lamp and it would go literally three four five nights no prob model really strong really powerful and as I said being rechargeable I really like that because you go can go through a lot of batteries and you can charge that obviously in your car I can charge it off the other lantern as well and I've got a power bank which I'll show you in a moment with all my camera gear but I've never had that run out on a camp yet and I've been out for two or three nights no problem at all and this thing's absolutely brilliant around the campsite so as far as storage bags are being the actual canoe itself I've just invested in this new Earth Pack 55 liter dry bag I'm very happy with this you would have seen in all my previous videos and you haven't seen this any of my new videos yet is my big blue rip girl one it's 75 liters it's actually too big so I've been able to pair down and pair down and pair down and it's now half empty and I'm pretty much just packing that flat but I wanted a bag that would make me first of all stop taking so much gear and take this room in the canoe also they had backpack straps on it for when I'm going to do poor tarsing so I want to do the Clarence River and in particular the Gorge there's a couple of big portaging sections there so I want something I can just Chuck on my back and then carry other bags with me rather having that great big duffel bag because whilst it was handing it's good for short trips no good for poor charging and as I said about 75 liters it's just too big and bulky so this has been really good I'm looking forward to using that guy so that has all my tent in it all my sleeping bag sleeping gear everything that is critical to be dry is all in that great big bag there including the chair and so forth so chair I like to keep dry as well obviously tarps Footprints all that type of stuff this little 20 line 20 liter sea lion bag this one is for food so dry food so I have all my condiments and so forth just in a little container like that so that has all the coffee in it oil salt and pepper porridge all the little bits and pieces you need for for um for dry food any cans and so forth also go into this guy I'll also put things in here like I'm just trying to think now what else goes in here so what are my water bottles water packs all that type of stuff so all the miscellaneous stuff like that that I don't need during the day will go into this guy worked out really well and then a little Rip Curl day pack so this one's what I call weatherproof or rain proof so the Zips themselves they've got the little seals on them so if it sits in the back of my canoe behind the ASCII and this has all the stuff I need for the day so obviously there's fishing gear and so forth but it has chopping boards all my knives and so forth the little pack that had all my cooking gear in it that goes in here as well as I said so I can just pull this out take it up to go and have lunch Etc um but this has all the day-to-day stuff that I'm going to need during the trip during the day and so forth for fishing and everything else all goes into this little day pack and once again being a backpack nice and easy if I have the poor charge so it's really just those three key bags and then another bag I'll show you in a moment which is my camera gear but if I'm not using the camera again I'm not going to do videos then that camera bag stays at home so really simple bags cost effective but once you get one two or three items I don't use barrels I don't need barrels I'm not going down um very very difficult Rapids and so forth and the only difference between if I'm doing an overnight trip or a three four or five six night trip is how much food I carry that little blue one in the middle here the 20 liter one has got plenty of room for dry foods and so forth and that big Esky will hold enough food for probably three or four days five days even easily no problem at all so I don't need a great big barrel system I'm trying to reduce the the amount of gear that I'm carrying in the canoe keep it light keep it simple less to carry less to set up less to put away and less the card around in your canoe and if this program or setup I should say works for me really really well PFD wise I've just got one of these Cedar Summit fishing versions I really quite like this guy really handy having the pockets on the front here places to hold your pliers bits and Bobs in the other pocket though I hold two items so one is an old Leatherman Multi-Tool it's one of the older version ones I'm not sure what this one this one's a wave actually some of the older waves quite great to have a multi-tool with you so I've always got that I'm my person or on my body whenever I'm in the canoe so if I come out of the canoe and so forth fall in the water go down river away from my gear at least I've got a knife and multi-tool and I've also got a little um fire lighter as well so if I need to light a fire Etc waterproof stays in the bag with me so if I get separated from my gear my canoe on a Rapids or a big river or a lake or anything like that I've got a knife with me multi-tool and I've also got a way to start a fire so I can scratch around I can make myself a shelter for the night but more important I can light a fire to keep myself warm or to dry myself out of course if I'm getting out of a river so those two always stay in the vest along with obviously other fishing gear and so forth so the final piece of my equipment this is what do I film all my videos on two GoPro nines that's what I use that's why I'm filming everything on that's what I'm filming on right now I shoot in 4k 24 frames a second several reasons why I use GoPros obviously the first one I'm in the canoe I'm on the water these things are waterproof not Splash proof not weatherproof they can get under 30 meters 100 feet absolutely bring it from that perspective but that's not the only reason I choose them the other reason obviously being very compact you can just put this in your pocket if you wanted to I carry all my carrying gear in a dry bag it's just a Kmart one does the job the other reasons are is a few things that I know I mean when I see other people's outdoor videos one is the old looking at the side of the screen so they're looking at themselves on the screen rather than actually you on the camera while they're talking the one where they're doing the selfie where they're pulling the camera around in front of themselves and saying look at this view look at this View and all you can see is that coconut you can't see the actual view behind it because it's all blurred and out of out of focus and the other one is when they're out on lakes and rivers and filming and so forth and everything's on an angle because it doesn't centralize the actual Horizon itself or have Horizon leveling I should say so they're things that I find just a little bit annoying when I watch other people's videos is things out of focus face out of focus the focus hunting on the face and things behind them and so forth and they're putting their hands up behind things to try and get things in Focus you can't see what's going on behind him and I also probably want to see where they're camping what the actual area itself looks like and as I said then the Horizon thing as well nothing more annoying than they're sitting there fishing or paddling down a beautiful pristine Lake and everything's on an angle like that it just takes away from the um I think the quality of the video from my perspective so that's why I use the GoPros the other item I use for filming around camps and so forth is my iPhone iPhone 12 Pro if you can't see me in the footage it means I'm using this camera I use this for all my b-roll footage around Camp all those beautiful pictures you see of the the sweeping views and so forth all done on my iPhone shooting the same 4K 24 frames a second so it all matches up in the editing Suite really simple really easy and I've always got it with me so that's a really good asset so the final piece is my Drone footage that's all done on this DJI air 2s absolutely bring it dry and folds up really really small I bought it with the uh the fly more kit which has um three batteries it also has a battery charger that I can use in the car as well and obviously this little setup you um the controller goes with your mobile phone so that's absolutely brilliant this is a really really great drone it's super easy to fly once again same camera settings 4K 24 frames a second so that all matches up and that's what I use to film all my Drone footage with folds up super small as I said really light and no brainer as far as getting Drone footage this thing's absolutely brilliant um next round I'll get will be the little three that little mini three Pro because it once again is even smaller again but when this came out this was the best drone value for money and certainly from a size perspective it's been absolutely brilliant um apart from that it's just things like I have a GoPro case here with all my GoPro accessories in it that just goes inside the bag I also take away a battery this is about a 26 000 milliamp anchor battery it's a fast charging one so when I get set up at night time I'll put this inside the tent on the little table and then I'll set up the cameras I can charge the GoPros on this the mobile on this lights and so forth anything that needs to be charging around Camp that'll do it and this will last once again five day trip no issue at all that'll charge everything I needed to charge and a couple of cables in that little case as well and then for video lighting point of view of this company's little Doom cubes this is the LC V2 Loom cube absolutely brilliant little light you can control it with an app on your mobile phone as well I'll set this up on a little gorilla tripod and that works exceptionally well from the point of view of lightning so all that lighting is set nighttime around the camp and so forth It's just on that tiny little loon Cube it's waterproof Splash proof all that type of stuff as I said I can attach this to anything and it lights up the camp really really well at night so the final piece to all this is the tripod which I'm using now with my camera on top of it which is a k f Concepts travel tripod it's about a kilogram in weights carbon fiber but exceptionally well priced they're seeing us it's under 200 and it's just on just over a kilogram absolutely brilliant so once again that goes in that little day pack nice and easy quick and easy to get out to when I want to film and so forth when I'm filming on the sides of the bank or around Camp Etc really compact really light and a really great tripod so guys that's everything that I take on a camping trip if you can think of anything else you want to know about I don't think I haven't worried about things like clothes and things like that that's everyone's own personal choices to what you take I try to take quick dry stuff as much as possible I also have things like a microfiber towel I've got a little shower jacket in case it rains and so forth but generally speaking that's the main equipment I take away camping if you've got any questions at all about any of the equipment or any thoughts as to why I chose equipment please leave a comment down below if you can't comment on YouTube you can always ask me on Instagram or Facebook I have pages on those two social media platforms as well thank you for watching through this video I hope you enjoyed it I hope I shared enough information on how you can set yourself up to go camping in a canoe or even backpacking most of this gear you can use your backpacking as well outside of things like obviously the eskies and the cools and the like thank you for watching appreciate you doing that and I'll see you all in the fight next time bye for now
