on as I was writing some notes to this video and preparing some rebuttals to a video that I'm about to play to you I had to stop at numerous points for sheer bewilderment at the fact that a video like mine today should be at all necessary this is perhaps one of the easiest moral analyses I've ever done today I want to rebuke the claim that pedophilic sexual behavior is sometimes permissible seriously we're going to be talking about Islam and you're going to need a touch of context so for those of you who don't already know the Prophet Mohammed final Messenger of Allah and the role model of the Muslim faith at the youthful age of 50 took a bride by the name of Aisha now at the time of the marriage according to numerous sources including hadeeth s' Aisha was a little younger than Mohammad at the ripe old age of six not sixty not sixteen six a fifty year old man married a six year old girl but I don't want to give the wrong impression here or anything it's not like Mohammed consummated the marriage at that time and had sex with Aisha when she was only six god no he waited until she was nine now there are some Muslims who dispute ayisha's age claiming that she was older than the generally accepted six or seven now I think it takes some serious intellectual acrobatics to do this but I acknowledge that some do and for such Muslims this video won't criticize anything that they believe instead I'm aiming this video at the type of Muslims who do believe that the Prophet married a six year old now have a feeling that whilst this should absolutely be one of the least controversial videos I've ever made it may be considered one of the most and if you think this is controversial of me to criticize Muhammad's behavior it only goes to show just how far you can push a person's moral conscience if you'll only justify your insane behavior with reference to religion now you may not have known this fact about the profit and you may be surprised or even discussed it because I don't know you're a racist or something but fret not because this infamous bond between a 53 year old man and his pre pre teen sexual partner is apparently not as bad as it sounds or at least not according to a Facebook page with just shy of seven hundred thousand likes called ask a Muslim last year they uploaded a video defending the actions of the Prophet and it seemed to go down well garnering thousands upon thousands of positive reactions and what's more it was uploaded on my birthday and while a video as outrageous as this may not be the best present to humanity and reason it certainly is a gift to any response space YouTube channel like mine let's let's take a look people wonder and ask did Prophet Mohammed bestow upon her marry a child was this a normal practice forty 100 years ago what was the wisdom behind it according to authentic sources Prophet Muhammad peace be upon America when she was six years old and the marriage was consummated after she turned nine however it is important to understand things in their historical context for instance will be silly to ask what kind of milk that they drink twenty 100 years ago or to ask what kind of engine used to have back then I couldn't agree more that any historical behavior should be considered in its context but I feel that this is a false analogy we're not talking about descriptive facts like the type of milk people drank we're talking about moral facts like the age of consent now Muslims believe that there's a God who dictated objective moral facts to humanity like that we shouldn't kill innocent people for example and given such a fact-based view of morality I can suggest what might be a more appropriate analogy it would be more like asking was that milk that the people drank back then healthy if we can look back and see that it was unhealthy then we can derive that we shouldn't be drinking it today but most importantly we can recognize that the people who drank it were committing harmful behavior even if we don't hold them morally culpable for it for instance we wouldn't judge a person for feeding a baby unhealthy milk if they didn't know it was unhealthy however and this is the key point even if we recognize that the people of that didn't know the milk was unhealthy it doesn't mean that it wasn't unhealthy as it's unhealthy today in the same respect just because people of a past society didn't know that having sex with children is wrong that doesn't mean that it wasn't wrong but even if it did things are further confused when you claim that the person who was drinking the milk had direct contact with the divine and a God who advised him on what's healthy and what's not such a man should be expected to recognize the milks be unhealthy even if his society doesn't believe it to be Mohammed should have recognized that having sex with children is wrong even if his society didn't think it to be therefore one must understand that things will turn honey years ago were very different from now that have changed and so human health and yet the moral code and traditional values of many religious denominations have refused to adapt to such changes you can't have it both ways 1,400 years ago it was very common for women to marry at a young age it is a historical fact that girls from ages 9 to 14 were married off in Europe Asia Africa and America for example San Augustine 350 AD he married a 10 year old king richard ii 1400 AD he married a seven year old Henry the eighth 1500 AD he married at six years old even in a Bible it says but say for yourself every girl who have never slept with a man okay ignoring the Bible verse that doesn't actually specify any acceptable age for intercourse you're right to note that many historical figures did take child brides however I have to ask when was the last time that somebody claimed King Henry the eighth to be their moral role model and would any person claimed that he had direct verbal contact with the divine these details change everything about the way that we view a person's behavior for example if someone told me that they looked up to George Washington I wouldn't bat an eye and in the same way if someone says that they look up to Muhammad for inspiration I think that's fine however if someone would have claimed that George Washington was a perfect and sinless individual whose every action had God's blessing I'd say whoa slow down there he's figuring about the whole slavery thing it's one thing to admire some aspects of a historical person it's another thing entirely to claim them as a perfect role model according to Catholic Encyclopedia Mary the mother of Jesus was 12 when she married 99 year-old Joseph before 1929 the Church of England ministers could marry a 12 year old in Britain before 1983 Catholic canon law permitted priests to marry off-price at the age of 12 a lot of people are unaware in United States in the state of Delaware in the 1880 the minimum age for marriage was 7 years old and in California twas 10 years even now the marriage age for some states are 12 in Massachusetts 13 in New Hampshire and 14 in New York okay the first thing to note is that every state in the u.s. actually has a minimum age for marriage of 18 save Nebraska and Mississippi which have 19 and 21 respectively however many states do allow marriage at a younger age under certain conditions but I don't even think that marriage is the most disturbing aspect of this marriage in question anyway the age of consent for sexual activity is never lower than 16 in the US or the UK and a good thing too but even so you seem to be making two contradictory points in this video the first about contextualizing the marriage seems to imply the view that yes it is immoral as we recognize today but people back then didn't know it it was just their culture but then you're saying well look everyone else is doing it so it's fine it's not fine and even if my own country's law today said that it was okay for a 50 year old man to marry a six-year-old girl I wouldn't just say well I guess that's just our culture I'd be on the lawn outside Westminster with a placard and a megaphone every day until the government made an amendment pointing to other country's laws is just another way of saying I know you are but what am i at the time of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him those who refuse his message tried every method their strategy to discredit him they were always looking for opportunity to attack him verbally or even physically some of this verbal abuse consisted of calling him musician or a soothsayer or crazy however they never thought to point out or objected to his marriage to Aisha why because they had a primitive morality that didn't recognize the harm that's caused by coercing a young girl into premature matrimony again you could argue that they shouldn't be held morally accountable for this because they were just products of their time but you would expect God's mouthpiece on earth to exhibit slightly more moral prescient wouldn't you because this was the norm of society meaning it was completely normal yes so was rape at one point and the maltreatment of women and the persecution of homosexuals that doesn't mean that any of these things were okay with that said did you know that Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him he had only one wife Khadijah throughout the first 54 years of his life I see where this is going most accounts say 50 by the way not that it matters did you know that she was a widow did you know that she was 15 years older than him well some accounts say that she was only 28 but yes most Muslims seem to believe that she was 40 but this effort to demonstrate that Muhammad's sometimes went for older women is nothing short of desperation why should it matter if he had a hundred wives of appropriate ages it doesn't affect the morality of him marrying a six-year-old and again you're implying a recognition that to do so was immoral because you're trying now to say but look he did good things too he BSB upon and spent his entire youth with her he was committed to her until after her death by keeping ties with her friends what about Aisha was she a child when she agrees to marry Prophet Mohammed peace be upon him first it's important to note that it is strictly prohibited in Islam to marry someone before the age of puberty note the age of puberty varies throughout different times and different places according to scientific references girls might enter full-blown privity anytime between the ages of 9 and yet you'll notice that most modern marriage laws prohibit marriage at 9 or 15 or anywhere in between and this is because we've come to realize that a woman is worth more than just her body and we have to consider more than just physical factors when judging someone's aptitude for marriage the age of puberty is one of the worst ways that anybody could set the bar for the age of consent for marriage or sex it completely ignores the emotional and psychological factors involved this is not wise behavior also the average temperature of the country is constricted we the chief factor with regard to administration and sexual puberty so was a shy child no she was not well that would depend on how you define child child can either mean a person who hasn't reached puberty yet or it can mean a person who is below the legal age of majority and when considering the acceptability of marriage I think the second definition is more appropriate however I don't particularly care for semantics for all I care you could define a child using whatever age you like because my argument here doesn't rest on technicalities like the definition of child or the effect of Arabian heat on menstruation it rests on a concern for the protection of the innocence of the young and a revulsion at any attempts to defend the actions of any supposed moral exemplar should they choose to take a six-year-old as a bride and to mount and abuse them three years later so before you even attempt to do such a thing save yourself the embarrassment and just submit that even the prophets of gods have
