so I'm going to do a mug down so I've got a few mugs here this is the generic mug shape we got the travel mug shape and we have the soup kind of mug shape we do each of these with a pound and a smidgen of clay so like an eighth of a pound it's just a tad bit over they start off in the middle centering just like any other pot would be centered for the generic one it's basically just a cylinder with a slight slight belly in it so gets opened up pulled up but inside now and repeat let the screwed off rip the outside you can smooth and I'm going to flip it over and use the corner of the rib make a little edge there and then to make a drinking edge I my thumb on the outside of the pot and my finger on the inside and I squeezed together and press down I'll just take a finger just rub that edge clean get the water out of the bottom mug two will be the travel mug starts out the same way this bottom is going to be a little bit flatter so I'm going to start with a little bit wider mound of clay and make sure the bottom is thin and I stretch it out compress the bottom and I'm going to pull up as I pull up I'm going to pull in and up again so the first pull is actually going to be doing the shaping of the pot so pull up move in and move up then I'll go back and I'll pull the clay that's down here up into the wall and back in give that the shape that I want cut the skirt off and flexible metal rib of death the outside now for giggles I'm going to put just a little texture on this and then give it a drinking edge and so I give it to the water and cut it off it's pretty much just like any other mug would be by the other bowl with just a handle so squish down open it up for ball I open it up in a V going to wet it and pull up in the shape that I want so I'm going to pull up and out keeping the look thick repeat button turnout but from the bottom and press it out cut the skirt off good a shape and clean up the outside edge I'm going to demarcate that lip a little bit and then rip it on the inside I want to rip it so that it's smooth and clean go to the water do one last cleanup here and cut it off it's now I'm going to trim the mugs I'm just going to do with these quick I threw them pretty thin so they don't need a lot of trimming done to them on the inside where's the foot so it's nice and smooth there we go one from the second mug same kind of deal just taking off a little bit of extra clay there and on the inside and just a little bit on the inside here so I'm going to pull the handle for the monks so this was gonna be simple handles if you haven't seen a handle double before I got one just on handles it makes it a little less um you know I like to talk as much here so now I'm going to attach the handles to the mugs so I'm just going to cut off where they were so that's a handle okay tap the top of it and around so that it's smooth and clean I'm going to take my needle tool I'm going to scratch up the inside of the handle all the way around I do not want to go through the edge of it because it'll crack there when I'm squishing it on and you let that set take the mug it's going to go on - I'm going to scratch up the spot on the mug where it's going to be attached and the bottom we take a little bit of vinegar this is just vinegar I'm going to put it on the joint on the cup not on the handle then I'm going to take the handle I'm going to press it against the mug press against the inside now when I'm pressing I'm not squeezing it I'm just using the tact of my hands to push it against the mug if I squeeze here it's going to get an ugly handle I'm going to take the handle I'm going to press it down until I get to the bottom I'm going to get the shape that I want I'm going to press it into both sides pinch it off and kind of smooth that on so you have a handle squish it on wiggle it so it sticks take the handle drop to where it's going to go press it on pinch it off and smooth it there we go our handle and the last one is a little bit different because this handle needs to stick out and move underneath to make it usable so I'm going to scratch it up here vinegar going to once you can see that here I'm going to squish it on hold them a hand on the inside so that it doesn't deform the bowl and then bring it over I want to leave it pretty wide so that I get two fingers in there and get a finger underneath and shut off and smooth it here we go handles on mugs yay
