hello guys and welcome back to another video it's millie um in this week's video i am going to be doing another like tips advice sort of thing um regarding my recent couple of years in australia and so i get a lot of messages on instagram and i'm honestly i'm so bad at replying to messages to people that i even know so when people that i don't know message me i try my best but there's definitely a few that i've missed out or like questions that i've missed out and i've um from people who have seen my videos and want a bit of advice so i just thought to cover all grounds i'm going to make a video on the pros and the cons of moving to australia because i'm like from the uk if you're going on like a working holiday visa or or if you're going forever um because the most common question that i get is like like what do i struggle what did i struggle with when i was over there like what would i do differently what would i advise like people in their like split minds um and i've shared this advice like with them on my dm so i just thought i'd do it in a video so if anyone's coming coming across this and it's like oh i don't know whether to go or not like i'm in two minds hopefully this video will help you so we'll get straight into it let me lower you down so i just obviously this is from my own personal experience and i've come up with three pros and three cons that i think would be the most helpful for people to take into consideration when they're making their decision i'll start with the con the cons so we can finish on like a happy note basically so first off this is applicable to you if you're moving to australia from maybe the uk or ireland or anywhere in this general area is the distance and i've had this in a lot of questions people have been like how do you cope like i'm so close to my family i just don't know like how i would do it and just um to say i am incredibly close to my family and i would never have even imagined that i could have spent two years away from them like without seeing them like that is literally crazy that i even did that because like my sisters are my best friends my mum and dad like i'm so close to them my dog so i completely understand where people's worries come from in this situation so that is definitely the first con i would say of moving to australia it is a long distance you have a very big time gap um you can still speak to your family in the morning and the evening most times during the year there's a few times where um daylight savings comes into play and the i think it changes from like i don't know it it changes from like nine hours behind to like maybe 10 hours and 10 hours is actually better because when you're waking up they're going to bed so you can communicate nine hours is a bit more tricky because when you've woken up it's like they've just gone to sleep um so it's a bit harder in those situations um but there is always you know you can speak to them twice a day in the morning and in the evening and if you make the effort to you've just got to make the effort basically to make sure you are on your phone when they are awake um and yeah so but that is definitely the biggest con it's really far away so it's expensive to come back home so more than likely you're going to be going five six months without seeing your family um i obviously went two years which was the massive extreme because of covid and like i'm hoping to go back soon so knowing that i'm not in lockdown anymore the uk isn't in lockdown i feel so much better because it's like if anything awful happens or you know you overthink things in your head if you have to come back for any reason i can i can come and see my family um but yes i understand and that is a big con of going to australia it is distance if you are very close with your family you will miss them and you always i found that i always wanted them there with me like when i was experiencing cool things i'm like oh my sisters would love this like my mom and dad would love this um so yeah number one is the distance that is a big con to take into consideration number two i would say um varies on whether you're going with your partner or on your own but honestly i think it applies to both because i definitely like i think me and my partner experience this um it's sort of like the isolation that you feel when you first get there and you're first finding your feet because it is scary because not only are you leaving your family but you're also leaving all of your friends behind i would say 99 of people who move out to australia don't know anyone there originally when we moved out um we were super super lucky that one of my friends that me and tom are both friends with who we went to uni with was out there with her boyfriend and it was lovely we actually like created this um lovely like friendship group and that's who we were friends with like um for the two years which was great because we had like a support system out there um but if you're coming out on your own i mean if you don't know anyone it's it is hard because you don't have your friends out there with you like you don't necessarily have that sort of like support system and like safety blanket um but i would say there are loads of facebook groups that you can join to um like make friends i'm still part of those facebook groups now and there's constantly people posting like hey i'm like 24 years old i'm english i'm coming over to sydney on my own would love to like meet people so you've just basically got to really put yourself out there when you first get there to build up your like friendship circles to make connections with people um and that's like a very scary thing that is obviously a very scary thing you're putting yourself out there but you will be thankful for it later on down the line i don't stress but it's a con my third con is something that i'm only experiencing now but i did get a bit stressed out about it when i was in australia and it's actually the effect that making like taking a couple of years out or taking a year out has a on your career now this is definitely a pressure from society that is coming into play here because i'm 26 like i can see 30. like i can see that milestone and when you're 30 i feel like you should have your life together you should know what you want to do with your career you should you know be whatever everything that society wants you to do basically and that stressed me out when i was out there because on a working holiday visa you go out and you have a six-month limitation on who you can work with um i was in marketing and events before i went out obviously i had it tough for like people who went out when i did had it tougher because covered happened as well so there were literally no jobs going like even in any industry not even just events and marketing but when i was looking for jobs when i first got out there i was applying for marketing jobs and events jobs and i found that i was getting a constant list of no's like we can't have you because of your visa limitations so i had to step away from marketing and events in those two years um i did a lot of just like um admin roles like customer service and then i finally got into sort of like a coordination role in my final year which i did really enjoy and i'm sort of in that industry still of the coordination side of things um but it's a stress when you're out there it's a stress and then obviously you come back to england and you'll probably have this you might have a gap on your resume of the industry that you want to be in i i feel like that's so confusing and i didn't even think this would be a issue that i would approach like before i went out there but yeah so just take into consideration that maybe your career might be affected by the visa you're on just because of your limitations it's just something to consider you might be super super lucky and like your career isn't going to be affected like if you're like um you know a tradie like working with your hands that you'll be fine they'll they'll keep you and stuff but it's more for people in like i feel like the artist side of things like maybe marketing events that side of things i waffled over that one but i hope i've made sense now we shall move on to the pros because yes those things are bad and they may make you not want to go out there but there are a lot of good things about going to australia as well firstly this is going to be the one that everybody knows just like the beauty of australia the amazingly the amazing places that you will see like i just don't think there is anywhere else like it it is absolutely stunning the things that you can see out there like the places that i have visited i like i would have never been able to see that if i hadn't gone to australia um and for that that one pro just like the beauty of the country and the beautiful places that they have there just outweighs all of the negatives but you don't know that until you get to there so it is a bit of a risk but i just trust me you will not be disappointed it's absolutely stunning the even like the animals that you see out there like the scenery the you know the sea like it's just it's amazing if you like all of that stuff then you will absolutely love it so that is the main pro that i'm going to talk about the second pro i would say is it sounds a bit cliche like i know people say like i go i've gone traveling and i've really found myself but honestly like the life experience that you get from pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone the life experience of moving to a different country with no friends no support system no job going traveling seeing the world is something that i didn't think would have like such a huge impact on me that it then it actually has done my family have said it to me actually it's so big it's a bit cringe saying that but they're like you're so much more confident now like it's like you went away like a young girl out of uni and like you've come back like you know who you are like and you're just a lot more confident with it and i do kind of i do kind of agree with that obviously it's hard to see when it's yourself but i just think from i just think pushing myself out of my comfort zone has been um like amazing for me like you grow as a person so much you meet so many people constantly and it's like it just puts life into perspective it really does it sounds so cringy saying it but honestly if you know you know okay it will only add to you as a person like it will only add to your personality add to like who you are as a person um pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone and like taking on this new challenge and then my third like pro of moving to australia would be the new adventures that you're going to encounter when you're out there so it's quite similar to the life experiences like my second tip but the adventures that you'll find yourself in are just completely out of this world like something that you won't even be able to like you wouldn't even be able to consider it like for example um you can go on where you're watching tours and you can see whales up close in real life you can go on dolphin tours um you can see dolphins in real life like i went snorkeling with seals like even like getting up and going for like a coffee when you're watching the sunrise over like bondi beach like it is absolutely incredible the it like adventures that you will encounter like in your time there it's the sort of adventures that you don't even like ever consider yourself doing like snorkeling with seals i had no idea that i would do that whenever moved out to australia like i didn't even know that was a thing that but you know it is whale watching i never thought i'd be in that situation where i would be on a whale watching trip and seeing like a whale breach like 10 meters from from where i'm standing on the boat like it's just being able to experience all these amazing adventures that you will not see come in and they'll just pop up and you'll be like this is one of the most incredible things that has ever happened in my life it's actually really making me miss australia talking about all these amazing things so yeah i would say take everything i've said into consideration if you are considering the move i think i'm biased because i loved my experience so much but if anyone was like oh i don't know whether to go or not i would always just say do it like just do it and you can come home like that is the beauty of it if you go out there and in four or five months you're like i've really missed my family i really miss my friends like i'm not having a great experience you can literally come home like that is the worst thing that can happen you can come home and you'll be happy again so i know it's a big step it's a very scary decision to make um but i just feel like the comfort blanket of knowing that you can come home um is just you know to me it's like why wouldn't you just give it a go just give it a go you only live once and it might be the best thing that you've ever done so i hope this video has been helpful i feel like it's been very rambly because i didn't really have i didn't really have an order to do this in so i've just sort of like blurted out what i thought but yeah if you have any questions feel free to put them in the comments or dm me on instagram i will um try and get back to you asap really sorry if i'm slow i'm just like i said i'm just slow with replying to everyone um but yeah thanks very much for watching this video and i'll see you next week bye
