hello and welcome to my channel vice Rhino here today we're getting into part three of Matt Powell's movie this one titled the flood this marks the halfway point as there are six parts of his movie that I'm responding to in total but I think I'm more than halfway done my series because the rest of the parts seem rather short compared to the first two anyway remember to start with part 1 now on to part 3 [Music] all over the world petrified trees are found standing up running through multiple layers ooh starting out strong aren't we creationists always bring up petrified trees going through multiple layers because a common argument against noah's flood is that you never find fossils stuck between layers as would be expected if all the layers were laid down rapidly over the course of a single year but there are cry the creationists just look at these fossilized trees that are standing in multiple layers funny how the only example of polystrate fossils are ones that we know for a fact can stand upright for long periods of time after they die now I taught her science for 15 years and I've entered you're in a room full of her science and biology books here in my library they teach that the layers are different ages that is just not common sense a tree's not going to stand there for thousands of years waiting for more layers to form around it the tree is going to rot and fall over yep eventually it will rot and fall depending on the type of tree and environment that it's in that could happen in a few weeks or it could happen in upwards of 300 years and you know what else can happen in the few centuries that a tree could remain standing after death sedimentary deposition and while creationists would have you believe that mainstream geologists insist that deposition takes thousands of years at a minimum the truth of the matter is that it depends entirely upon the depositional event for the chalk deposits that made the White Cliffs of Dover it took millions of years but not all depositional events are created equal a volcanic eruption can leave a layer of ash in a hurry lava flows can go right along with that mud slides don't take long either and yes even floods can wash in sediment rather rapidly in the case of joggins Nova Scotia no that's a Nova Scotian jogger there that's better anyway in joggins the older bigger trees grew in a layer of soil that was likely similar to that found in a peat bog after it died at space was covered by another layer sediment in which other smaller trees grew at some point these smaller trees also died and how to coarser sediment build up around them in which still more plants grew there are several layers which contain evidence of life going on normally within them from animal tracks to the growth of other trees that's quite a neat little trick to accomplish if all these layers formed in one flood over the course of a single year what kind of tree grows at the bottom of notion again in a couple years we got dead trees on our property they stand for a couple years and they fall down yeah and depending on the environment they could stand longer and do you know what can happen in those times rapid depositional events do you know what we never find animals whose fossils go through multiple layers if most fossils are the result of a global flood that would be the norm but we haven't found a single one the only fossils that go through more than one rock layer are ones from organisms that we know can stand upright for decades and possibly centuries after they die that's quite the coincidence don't you think but yet here we have all over the world thousands of examples of petrified trees in the vertical position running through many layers of strata they're called poly which means many poly strata fossils they're called polystrate fossils by creationists who don't want their followers to find any non creationist explanations for them by normal geologists they're just called upright fossil trees do you actually believe that that tree stood there for millions and millions of years while the Sun beat down on it for millions of years while the lava rock layers collected around it to you did you believe that why are you assuming that all the layers have to take millions of years to form nobody claims that some types of layers do take millions of years many do not in fact one of the points that creationism often tries to score against geology is that sedimentary layers have been observed to form quite quickly for instance at Mount st. Helens there are several layers from several different deposition events that were deposited within a couple of years two of the layers are within a month of each other dr. Steve Austin has a whole documentary on why this is evidence for the flood this is one of the most amazing features of Mount st. Helens is the rapidly formed strata layers and dr. Austin has his doctorate in geology the study of rocks or stones and he puts his degree to use working for creationists that's Stone Cold Steve Austin stone cold but now here you guys are saying that deposition takes longer than a dead tree could possibly stand make up your damn minds now let's see what the good old raging atheist has to say about this how do you suppose that gob their fossilized um I'm not gonna I'm not gonna pretend to know of course I've seen I've seen arguments about this before I know a lot of a lot of people are gonna argue well how did it get into all these different layers I'm not sure man I am so glad you chose the best and the brightest to represent the side of science let me just point out to you here that the explanation for these trees has been known and has remained mostly unchanged since the 1860s you're using an argument that was debunked so long ago that it predates the young earth creationist movement in fact it never had time to become an argument before being debunked so you might say that this one was pre bunked what would a worldwide flood do to Planet Earth well let's assume that you're talking about the water vapor canopy thing that last I heard you still believe despite it being so ridiculous I even Answers in Genesis won't agree with you well there's this thing called the latent heat of vaporization when water turns into vapor it takes heat with it which is why sweat works and when it turns back into water it releases that heat with the amount of water vapor that would be necessary to sustain your vapor canopy the heat released just by turning all that vapor back into water would be enough to raise the temperature of the earth to 6,000 degrees and I hear the pedants in my audience asking is that Celsius or Fahrenheit well we're talking about humans existing at 6,000 degrees does it matter either one sucks balls but maybe Hoeven has referred back to his space ice berg idea which still has the latent heat of vaporization problem but adds to it a massive ice asteroid impact which creates all sorts of other problems for the creationist models it would deposit thousands of feet of sediments containing billions of dead things which is exactly what we find fossils exist all over the world including the top of Mount Everest yeah but the main problem here is that if there were a global flood the millions of dead things would have included Noah and his family because physics one of the great proofs of the worldwide flood is the fact that we found fossilized seashells up on the very peak of Mount Everest which means that Mount Everest would have had it been covered with water it's a simple fact but it's a true one and scientists for many years have been trying to figure out how these fossilized seashells got all the way up to the top of Mount Everest nope that's not really a good bit in favor of the flood it may have been a mystery at one point but plate tectonics solved that from about 200 million years ago the Indian plate has been moving toward the Eurasian Plate and is being pushed under it or subducted there used to be an ocean separating India and the rest of Eurasia but as the Indian plate was subducted under the Eurasian Plate the sediment from the ocean floor was deposited on the edge of the Eurasian Plate in an accretionary wedge when the two plates finally collided about 50 million years ago this sediment was pushed up into the mountain range that we know today as the Himalayas this process is still going on and as a result Mount Everest grows at a rate of about one point two centimeters per year which I guess technically means that every person to reach the top sets a new record for the highest a person has ever climbed if only by a few nanometers anyway since the Himalayas are literally made out of sediment that was on an ocean floor that got scraped off onto another continent when its own continent was being subducted it's no surprise that there are marine fossils on Mount ever it does present a problem for creationism though because the way flood deposits work bottom-dwelling marine creatures would not have been swept up to the mountain tops but down into the valleys so their presence on a mountain is completely unexplained by a global flood and that's ignoring the fact that they exist as if they were just going on about their normal lives not being swept up in a flood now if you've read the Bible it's very clear the Bible says that there was once a flood and that the flood covered the entire earth there was water over everything there are four things that lived in water got up high you're overly simplistic explanation is quite wrong when looking at the actual science that's just simply not how floods work the entire world was not flooded land was showing but this was found in the top of the Grand Canyon wait what I'm confused when did we start talking about the Grand Canyon what did you find at the top of the Grand Canyon are you confusing the Grand Canyon with Mount Everest or were you talking to him about something else at that point and just decided that this part of your video needed another spot where he looked flustered and so through it and here out of context honestly I wouldn't put either of those past you I could legitimately see you confusing a really big hole in the ground with a really big mountain and we already know that you dishonestly edited your video but I'm gonna go with the honest but really dumb mistake here because I'm feeling charitable there's really no excuse for being ignorant of the flood or rather ignorant of how pretty much every field of science demonstrates rather conclusively that the flood never happened when you have all kinds of evidence for it in the natural world and of course you have the ancient witness of the Bible telling you of the flood there is zero evidence for a massive worldwide flood in the ancient world I will grant you that the Bible says it happened though and I know that you claim that the plethora of other flood myths back up the idea that the one in the Bible is real but even here you need to decide which one in the Bible is the real one because in 1 no it took two of every clean and unclean animal specifically two of each but in the other one he took seven of the clean ones in 1 noah entered the ark seven days before the flood in the other one he entered the ark the day the flooding started the ark floated for seven months in 17 days and one and at least 10 months in the other and in one story their earth dried on the first day of the first month well the other one it dried on the twenty seventh day of the second month so the Bible can't even agree with itself on the details of the flood this makes me doubt its reliability not only that but other cultures and other religious texts make reference to the flood the flood legend as people would call it or the flood myth is universal to all religions because it actually happened or because local floods actually happen and people tell stories about floods that's what you do when story telling you include details that your target audience is familiar with if you live in an area that experiences flooding than to bump that up to a massively devastating flood is just good storytelling and so because it actually happened it's in the collective memory of mankind there is no such thing as the collective memory of mankind you remember your own experiences and not very well at that so picture this a group of people live in a place let's say the Iraqi flood plains since that's where this particular flood myth originated one day there is a flood that is a lot larger than normal and kills a lot of people the people who lived through it then tell their kids who were born after it of a time when all the land was flooded and most of the people and animals died not hard to see how that could in a relatively short time grow into a legend about a massive worldwide flood which only one family survived which is why every religion every nationality has some story about the earth being flooded every single one you've done a complete survey of all the cultures and religions on the planet and determined that there isn't a one of them that doesn't have a flood legend I highly doubt that obviously we get the true accurate story from the Bible how exactly is that obvious it's obvious to you because you already believe that the Bible is the infallible Word of God but in this video where you are ostensibly trying to convince atheists just to parade the Bible out and say obviously this is the true story without any supporting evidence whatsoever is just laughable especially when it is so well-known that the Bible basically copied its flood story from the Epic of Gilgamesh but the natural world bears witness to it the collective memory of mankind bears witness to it and really the only thing that matters me is that the Bible said and there we have it the Bible says it so I believe it everything else must be wrong if it disagrees no matter how much evidence that has behind us and they're willingly ignorant of the fact that God flooded the earth that God created the earth and they take the truth and turn it into a lie willingly ignorant who are the ones going out and collecting and analyzing the data certainly not creationist they might do the occasional publicity stunt of sending blind samples in for carbon dating when the samples are too old to be carbon dated or something like that but the actual real research leading to the actual real scientific progress is done by people who accept the fact that the earth is billions of years old and know that Noah's Flood never happened this is an ignorant since knowledge it does look like a rather severe case of the pot calling the kettle black though except in this case the kettle is very obviously fluorescent orange and the pot is so black that no light can escape its event horizon they see that the earth was flooded and that their sediment or the Christian see at least that the earth was flooded and there was sediment layers but they look at that and say this is a period of time not quite we look at all the data and see that the best explanation when considering all the data together is that the earth is billions of years old creationists might be able to make arguments that seem to explain away the vast ages of individual data points but when taken as a whole everything falls apart because the earth is billions of years old end of story the Bible is very clear about the order of the flood and how things happened the Bible teaches a global flood a flood that covered every hill every mountain every animal every Valley the entire Earth was buried under water by the judgment of God by the judgment of God or by the regret of a God who didn't have the foresight to make creatures he wouldn't regret making animals die all the time out here in the woods they're always dying but none of them get preserved as fossils because they get scattered around by the coyotes or the buzzards or the ants do you keep track of every single animal out there which dies do you record what happens to all their bodies are you sure that no animals ever are buried by mud or sand or anything else how could you possibly say that with any amount of certainty and so the fact that there are fossils at all is a good indication there was a rapid burial just like Noah's Flood would have done yes every single scientist who works with fossils knows that rapid burial is an important step in the fossilization process you keep trotting that out as if there's some juicy detail that scientists are trying to hide but it is well known and easy to find and to suggest that no animal today ever experiences a rapid burial just goes to show the absolute enormity of your ignorance that's it for this one looks like we have fossil trees marine fossils on Everest many flood myths and the fact that Kent has never personally witnessed the fossilization process as our main lines of evidence for the flood that's pretty weak Matt even for you next time we get into how dinosaurs and people live together before the flood apparently my comment of the day today comes to us from JW who says pretty sure Frank is quite a bit smarter than you what are your qualifications do you have a PhD in biology now I might be mistaken about this but there is a person who keeps popping up on my videos to tell me to stop fishing the bottom of the barrel and respond to real apologists this person will often drop names like William Lane Craig and Frank Turek as examples of these real apologists I think that JW here is that person but I'm not quite sure as I can't find those other comments at the moment so I can't actually verify that but I seem to recall that it is this person but if it is him it's quite telling that you aren't convinced by my arguments until I deal with quote real apologists but as soon as I do deal with one on your list you switch it up to attacking credentials anyway to respond to what JW is actually saying I do not in fact have a PhD in biology and I said as much in the video that this was posted on so obviously you didn't watch it but Turek also does not have a PhD in biology nor does the lawyer that he used in that video as his main source of information on evolution a very biological topic Turek may very well be quite a bit smarter than me in some areas but biology is definitely not one of them the man doesn't even realize that evolution is the explanation for the diversity of life instead he brings up diversity as if that's a major challenge for evolution that's a basic grade school level
