I was lucky enough to summit Mount Whitney from Guitar Lake the day before labour day as the Creek Fire was blowing up. This was the end of a week long backpacking trip that included summiting another 14er, Mount Langley, and the beautiful Miter Basin, Crabtree Pass and basin. The trail from Guitar Lake to the summit of Mount Whitney is probably the most stunning trail I have ever walked , it really blew my mind on so many levels, incredible views and incredible walking high above the world, felt like a Hobbit. Here is my video from the two last days of the trip, including the amazing sunset at Guitar Lake, the Summit of Mount Whitney and the smoky decent down the 99 switchbacks to Whitney Portal.
Whitney broke my heart this year. I had a permit for two days after your summit.
nice music to go along with it
Great way to finish that trip.
We hit the summit on the same day as you! We did 5 days on the High Sierra Trail. Camped at the tarn above Guitar Lake, and left really early. Made it to the summit at sunrise, so we never crossed your path. Can't believe how lucky our timing was with the smoke and the fires.
Thatβs a glorious hikeβmy favorite of the three approaches to Whitney.
Omg. The steep rocky drop off makes my palms sweaty. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through your video, I think itβll be quite awhile before Iβm ever ready to attempt that
These videos are great. I went SOBO over Crabtree in to Miter Basin that same weekend and loved the experience of reliving some of those views. Bravo!
