hey what's up moto america fans it's josh herron make sure you subscribe to the moto america youtube channel to see all the up-to-date content like and subscribe don't forget my channel too elkhart lake wisconsin welcomes you it's road america one of the iconic racetracks in all the world and we've got the biggest class of the weekend both in entries and perhaps the amount of riders and machines that could emerge on top it's moto america stock 1000 third round of the season and it has been a dog fight at the top of this championship four winners in four rounds and that's just the start of it because we think we could easily come up with a fifth winner today several contenders and even some wild cards jumping into action this weekend jason wagon joined by multi-time road racing champion roger hayden stock 1000 is becoming a favorite of mine big on entries big on talent at the top some of the best racing we've seen all year has been in a stock 1000 class even the last race at virginia race 2 went down all the way to three or four corners to go so it's gonna be uh it's gonna be exciting and it's kind of carried over to this weekend all the guys are so close at the front and we got a couple other guys racing this weekend that hasn't raced all year with larry pagan we're gonna throw him in the mix today so it's gonna be exciting to see yeah and we've already had as mentioned four winners in four rounds so we'll at least get you up to speed on them and then maybe we'll have a fifth by the end of today's race so the four winners in four rounds it almost seemed like a story that changed every weekend we started at road atlanta michael gilbert on the number 55 would end up emerging with the win there he would get away yet yates on the 22 honda and lewis on the 85 suzuki there is gilbert firing first on his kawasaki so that's one race winner jake lewis had just jumped back into action in this series he was very strong in race two travis wyman would take the lead from jeff may lewis would make a mistake and wyman on the bmw would emerge with the win and the points lead leaving atlanta so maybe he was the best rider in the series but no the 23 of corey alexander the 85 of jake lewis they were awesome at our next set of races in virginia those two went at it the whole race even through the lappers and it just went down who wanted it more that last lap it was uh so exciting to see these two stuffing each other every chance they did yeah lewis won the first one and then here's the final lap of the second race contact but they both recorded it it was just hard aggressive racing and corey alexander emerges with the win on the honors hbmc kawasaki so that's four winners in four rounds lewis alexander wyman and gilbert and even the standings coming in lewis a small points lead over gilbert wyman had an off weekend at the last set of races in virginia hoping for better here in the bmw and jeff may he has been the fastest rider on balance throughout this weekend as he's getting up to speed on that new honda the fire blade honda so we could be looking at again a fifth winner in five stars this year and then you mentioned some wild cards larry pegram won races at the very top level of this series before he's racing stock 1000 this weekend on a ducati and jason farrell who is considered a home track specialist at road america he's been in the mix lap time wise all weekend yeah jason has a ton of laps here and larry's won some fun races here before so you know he's got to he's got the pace and we've seen jeff may fast all year in the races he's had a couple issues with electronics so hopefully they get that sorted out and he can be quick from start to finish yeah may riding without some of the traction control and wheelie control that other riders do as they're sorting out this new honda there is jake lewis on the altus motorsports suzuki that team won the championship last year with camp peterson they bring jake lewis back into action after he missed last season didn't have a ride and he has been very quick on the machine all year and he is your points leader couple other riders to mention former series champion in this division andrew lee he's beginning faster each race on his kawasaki this year for the franklin armory disrupt racing team jason farrell who we mentioned who's racing this weekend is normally andrew lee's crew chief the battle last time out was between that man you just saw jake lewis and this one corey alexander and they were really swapping fast lap times and qualifying as well so it could be a rematch between those two along with jeff may they've been the pacesetters lewis wasn't strong in every session though he had some good laps and then other times we saw him back seventh and eighth so it's pretty wide open he hasn't had the virginia he was a little bit more solid than he has been this weekend was always in the top three in every session this weekend he's kind of some been around fifth and even outside the top five so who knows maybe that superbike race yesterday he actually finished above a lot of the guys he's going to be racing with today so hopefully they got it sorted out got a lot of laps and that's a good thing about doing the superbike cup for these guys you get a lot of track time this guy's getting a lot of track time and some of the best times stefano mesa won our super sport race for the middleweight bikes the 600-ish cc machines yesterday was a dramatic victory but he keeps saying that he thinks he's probably better on the thousand and in the morning warm-up jeff may had been the fastest rider in qualifying and jeff may was the fastest of the morning warm-up and then and the very last lap mesa actually busted through for the fastest time in the warm-up laps in the am today so mesa's a contender on the thousand even on friday he was really quick and put it on provisional poll and didn't even ride the last five or six minutes so things are definitely working well for him i think he's got more track time on the 1000 than he does the 600 and you have to think yesterday winning that 600 race has to give him a boost of confidence how cool would it be to come here today and and do the double oh man he's definitely in contention for it to win two races over two classes you just saw travis wyman on track with a runner-up ride in the mission foods king of the baggers class i guess he's going to stick with the leathers from the harley-davidson and go to work now on his bmw this is the class where he wants to win the championship he was the series leader heading into our last set of races in virginia a little bit of an off weekend there hoping to bounce back on the beamer this time around now another factor along with all these bikes and all these riders and all these teams and all this talent is whether it's leveled off a bit it was unseasonably hot for road america it's not quite as bad today but still a little hotter than expected when we usually come here it's a lot warmer than we're used to but today it just seems like there's a little bit more of a breeze and also that can play a factor in the draft if there's a headwind up the front straightaway it's gonna play in the favor that whoever's in second or third so that's something to to watch for but it's definitely a lot warmer than we're used to here and we're gonna see what what these guys have here soon there's jeff may and the vision wheel backed honda the 99 he will be on pole he has been very fast all weekend long and he was tops when these riders were racing in the super bike cup when they have the stock 1000s out there on track with the superbike class as well and made doing it again without the aids of most of the electronics they're trying to figure out all these different parameters of the bike first and then they'll go to work on the electronics it's a lot of data to try to manage so they figured they're better off just taking some of those variables out and we'll see how well he performs riders getting a last look at the very famous four plus mile road america track and we can also give you a look at it as we'll show you the track map here on moto america live plus this is turn one and now as they head to turn two a little bit downhill it's actually more of a downhill than the camera even shows and we'll show you the track map here and roger hayden you can tell us some of the keys to going fast here at road america this track is one of everybody's favorites you can see all the long straightaways headed in starting with turn one is a fast hard-breaking corner as you said downhill into turn three which is important to get a good run out of there into turn five where these guys are at right now this is where you're gonna see most action happen up through six seven the infield section eight down to turn nine the carousel the longest corner of any track that we go to then a quick little chicane out of there to turn 12. canada corner another straight away then a fast left and the last corner they're under the front straight which you'll see a lot of guys playing different strategies some guys are going to want to be in front out of there some guys are going to want to be second and try to get the draft to the flag yeah we'll see how the drafting works on the big motorcycles because stock 1000 they've been on track a lot for practice and qualifying but they did not have a race in the stock 1000 class yesterday again they were only out there as part of the superbike class so we didn't get to see all that action we're watching some of the superbike racers up front so we'll see if the draft affects them what do you think on the thousand does the draft still a big deal it still could play a part if you're a little bit off in the infield section but you don't lose too much the giraffe can kind of kind of keep you in it but we've seen like yesterday in the super bike race you can get away here on the 1000 if you do have the the pace but you're gonna have to put it all together through the infield get enough of a gap where the person can't get in the draft and another thing to watch for i know with larry pager on the ducati's having some overheating issues this weekend so uh when he gets in a pack the bike really overheats so i think that's something to watch for yeah that's unfortunate for larry because that bike is f definitely fast it's very effective on this track with the long straightaways but will he be able to hold that speed all the way to the end larry pegram and dukatic celebrating 12 years ago winning in the superbike class with a dramatic win so larry's out here on a ducati that's a lot of manufacturers that could win suzuki's kawasaki's bmws ducatis see how it turns out here as the riders have their last chance to look i may ask about travis wyman real quick he literally went straight from one motorcycle to the next a totally different motorcycle on a bagger but that means he has more track time is that good or is that bad i think it's it at this point i think it doesn't really matter you get a couple warm-up laps you kind of find your your bearings the bagger race wasn't super long where i don't think he just you know used way too much energy but it's still you lose you get really hot you start sweating you got to be a little more hydrated so i think that would be the uh the only thing that could be a problem is uh you know just the hydration long lap here so it takes a while for everyone to follow their way around with a four mile track and uh now everyone lines up in their positions and that's what we're excited about all this talent mesa and may just a couple of the riders hoping to become the fifth winner in the early stages of 2021 he also saw ashton yates there the number 22 he's certainly a rider that can get it done and we're waiting on a start here for stock 1000 corey alexander one of the front runners in this championship and watch for the lights let's go racing corey alexander a good jump getting out ahead of your pole sitter jeff may and he'll lead him in on the number 23 kawasaki gonna be a big dive into turn one look at mesa on the 37 he sets himself up on the inside of alexander alexander able to hold it he's a good start by everybody on the front row and also a good start for jake lewis and ashton yates oh pile up already into the gravel trap riders stumbling to their feet i hope everybody's okay definitely a bit wounded and some bikes down we'll see if that leads to a red flag or not as mesa and alexander continue to duke it out big turn five here everyone dive bombing late on the brakes alexander able to control the lead and then in the corvette corner i think that's actually yates who's moved into third ahead of may so may not the jump he wanted despite the pole position we got a long way to go eight laps of a four mile race track larry pegram didn't get a great start either now he's worked himself all the way up in the fifth pretty quick we knew that ducati would be fast to see that red and black machine [Music] with larry pegram one of the veterans out here go back to the start let's see what happened here with the crash oh that was a slam and again we hope everybody's okay this is a deep class so it's a lot of a lot of traffic going into that first turn and these 1000s getting to wind out on the long straightaways mesa trying to set up corey alexander can you make a pass for the lead not quite i think the red flags out yeah okay leg comes off so alexander signaling to the rest of the field that it's time to slow down and they're gonna pull it in so we do have a red flag for the downed riders again we hope everybody's okay and we've had a pretty smooth weekend in terms of red flags and haven't had any restarts yet unfortunate to see that absolutely and uh now ryder is going to have to reset and we'll make sure that the track is safe and those riders are safe as well [Music] and everybody go to go into their pit stall and wait out this restart it kind of gives all the guys who didn't get a great start or a good first lap kind of trial all over again and get another shot at you you could already see the beginning of that race corey alexander and stefano mesa we're already kind of building a little bit of a gap to the guys behind them yeah they definitely stepped up it was may that really seemed to have the speed edge earlier in the weekend but they got him off the start and yeah they were settling into a private duel here's hunter dunham on the westby yamaha number 19. melissa paris his crew chief they're going to go to work on that machine you're allowed to make adjustments in this red flag segment correct you can make adjustments uh you just you cannot change tires okay if you do dunlop has to say something's unsafe like there's a there's a cut that's the only way you can do it and if you do it you start last so you'll never see anybody changing tires unless there's a major problem good to see these riders on their feet definitely banged up but able to walk off under their own power so that's best case scenario after a pretty violent crash and that actually just kept getting worse and it looked like it i think it was between jeremy cook and uh walter sip all right hope these riders are okay not gonna be able to join the race again obviously but hopefully we'll get them back for other rounds this year banged up bruised up we'll give you another look at it it's got a little wild here you can see the yellow bike just went over the tire the person in front of him and then that guy was just a passenger from there on oh and then run over just to see these guys walking off like this is a great sign considering how ugly that could have been and those motorcycles obviously took a thrashing as well but in this situation the concern is for the rider's safety great job at tucking in those arms and just rolling toward the gravel wow yeah was the uh 41 of sip who you mentioned thrash bike racing that's not the way they want that to go down here's jeff may the vision wheel kws honda and uh he's got a chance to reset himself didn't get the start that he wanted from pole so it's an opportunity to maybe rebuild and get the jump this time and there's mesa who is duking it out with corey alexander for the lead mesa pulling double duty this weekend that's not rare in road racing we see riders on multiple classes we obviously have seen travis wyman do it for example yeah but uh stefano has a pretty small operation so that's what we love about this guy racing the two classes and racing up front in both classes that's what makes it impressive and we mean up front we mean winning this is mesa in the super sport race yesterday one of the best races you will ever see as expected it came down a tremendous duel between sean dylan kelly and richie escalante meanwhile mesa is battling it out with the 88 avenged benjamin smith for third as escalante and sean dylan kelly push each other for the lead it was unreal this battle roger these guys changed what was it 35 lead something like that those two this whole race every lap right here to turn five the last lap they both go down and mesa after this crash he had gotten around benjamin smith for the number three spot they were going back and forth and third turned into first when the leaders went down and stefano mesa ends up winning in super sport so can he replicate that he wants to win it outright on speed here he's talking to rocco landers everybody was happy and stefano got that win let's get an update which stefano will send it down to jamie howe that celebration in victory lane was a little chilling yesterday when you got that first super sport win but now you're bouncing to the stock thousand bike what challenge does that present to you uh it's it's a little challenging for sure hopping from bike to bike the perspective of speed is so much different so uh just riding the bike is very different but i think we're doing a good job at it and uh we're having vik we're having fun riding motorcycles so that's what cones you know and it seems like you have some good camaraderie down here it's a thick class so there's a lot of competition when you're out there on the racetrack in that first lap what were you able to learn oh definitely the classes stacked this year there's plenty of talent in it i mean pretty much the top ten top five can win the thing so i mean i just got to get out there and see what i can do see if i can maybe run away but that's probably going to be impossible knowing the talent that's behind us so i just have some fun and try and be smart you know be there in the last lap there are a lot of fans around the racetrack today looking up into the sky i don't see any clouds it's a hot one what can the fans expect once we go back to green i think it'd be good racing it's always been good racing moto america is doing a good job at it it's great to see all the fans out here it's packed so i mean my hat's off to all of them to being out here in the heat and enjoying the races and i think it's going to be good racing and so stefano mesa he won super sport yesterday let's see what he can do today guys yeah thanks jamin you saw jeff may for going over there ripping him a little bit there's the 41 machine that we were talking about uh taking that off of the track after that big crash that is the thrash bike racing team but that's not the way they meant for it to go despite the name they got the retro yellow and black livery there on their yamaha so mesa is not a factor in this championship had a big crash actually on his big bike at our last race in virginia it was impressive that he was even able to race in super sport and get some podiums and then even better that he was able to come out and win in super sport yesterday so mesa is kind of a wild card not in it for the title because he's missed some big points this man is this is jake lewis your serious leader getting a little help from the m4 x-star suzuki team he's on the alta suzuki squad we'll see if lewis can step up here they've had a jump on him throughout uh qualifying in practice most of the weekend let's see if he can get it together for the race he's gonna need to have a little bit better first lap on this restart than he had the first one to kind of get shuffled back to the fourth and fifth and they just can't let the the top two guys or top three guys get away because they're so close in lap times if you battle it out too much the first lap and somebody gets a couple seconds on you with these guys being so close it's gonna be hard to make that back up i think what makes this class interesting is when you go through the paddock and talk to everyone okay the superbike there's such high-end teams that a lot of people came in with pretty good levels of preparation not everybody but a lot of them so many riders in stock 1000 are coming in saying i didn't even ride the bike till the first race in atlanta or there's something we didn't realize that we had to fix that we have to fix so every weekend it varies you see jake lewis's progress from rounds one to rounds two you think well he's gonna be that much better at round three but it's others who have made the jump maybe corey alexander has been the pretty solid at all the races but even that team talking about uh figuring out the electronics on the new 21 21 kawasaki so you really don't know what to expect race to race especially for them they were talking about they didn't expect that 21 kawasaki would be so much different but looks like they got a they got a pretty good handle on it now because he was fast at vr he's been fast this weekend and all the practices and qualifying and even that first lap of the that race before the red flag came out looks like he had his head down and was trying to go ahead and break up the group and that's something i know he's been working on a lot and was doing a doing a good job at that time and it's just going to be like we talked about all the time it's going to be so competitive and you're going to need to take advantage if you're fast this weekend maximize those points good point now here's wyatt ferris jumping onto the mfr m4 x-star suzuki team he's uh talked about some issues they've been working through on the bike he told me straight up it has been struggle street when he was talking about the last race they're better now as far as the bike is running solid and now they're trying to gain speed so we could have another rider in contention as wyatt ferris gets better throughout the year for that big time suzuki squad that races in a variety of classes out here of course uh superbike also super sport and they've got ferris there that number 79. travis wyman on the number 10 bmw hey he had a little more time to adjust back to the sport bike after riding the bagger bike earlier so maybe this is an advantage for wyman ryder is going to get another chance to survey this track and lewis and may the last two out jake lewis and jeff may so we're going to be back to business and racing in stock 1000 in just a few minutes crowd is in for a treat here we keep talking about how big the crowds are we saw it in atlanta we saw it in virginia we have definitely seen it here in wisconsin and road america and this could be one of the best races of the weekend although it looked like mesa and alexander were setting up to maybe make it a one-two showdown and get away from everyone else so everyone can't deny it they know they've got to be a little quicker out of the blocks this time and it's just the unknown this start could be totally different one of those guys could get not a very good start we see people at this track all the time get a good start but with the draft going into turn one you can get shuffled back a couple spots so it's going to be interesting to see you know corey alexander and stefano mesa did not want to see that red flag come out no uh i was going to ask you about the draft actually you know most of the qualifying laps we didn't really see anyone develop drafting partners or anything like that is there gonna be a bit of an unknown they're gonna go into turn one either off the start or in some laps later in the race a little faster because now they're using the draft if there's four or five guys definitely going into turn one you can come in with a couple extra mile an hour and then also in the turn five if you're drafting a couple guys you can get it you're already by yourself breaking you know as late as possible you come in there a couple extra mile an hour you can we've seen a lot of guys run wide into five so definitely can play a factor and then also on the last lap the the run to the flag it's definitely long enough out of that last corner if you get a run you can make a pass before the start finish line all right so that's going to make it that much more interesting even if someone has pace everyone knows he could still try to use the draft to stay with him we saw it in some of the smaller displacement classes throughout the weekend where it's a full-on chess match of drafting it probably won't be as big a factor on the stock 1000s but it could still be a factor as we gather bikes back over to the starting grid and get ready to restart again in stock 1000 and again wild cards that could make this one interesting you had pegram actually looking pretty strong early on the ducati has had his problems throughout the weekend but when that bike runs it's fast and it was good on that very first lap it's gonna be interesting to see how it goes just with the overheating issues he hasn't did a ton of laps in a lot of the sessions so uh because of that but hopefully they get that sorted out it is hot today you'll see him on these warm-up laps being one of the last people so when he gets back to the grid he doesn't have to sit there and let the bike start overheating oh okay there's travis wyman yep he's got the harley-davidson leather zone kept the leathers on from his previous race where he finished second in mission king and the baggers this was the man that was leading the points after our first weekend of the year anything you can tell that they're looking into or discussing here in that bmw or you think it's just all systems go with this i think they're just making sure they get all the the electronics numbers you know a lot of it is they have like traction control setting three wheelie control two just making sure sometimes the riders are known to accidentally hit a button starting the bike or whatever just making sure they get it all right and not as much of an issue for that red honda there at the top of your screen jeff may he's not running as much traction control now we'll get a warm-up lap after the sight lap yeah so talking to may and his crew yesterday about the electronic situation he put it up on the podium in virginia without electronics and uh they say the stock ecu is good if you're uh you know a rider that's buying the bike off the showroom floor to race at this level as a professional there's some things that they want to tweak but they haven't been able to figure that out yet so they're just going to go without electronics and rely on the experienced hands of jeff may and fast qualifying podium in her last race he's kind of become the equalizer man versus machine with the electronics it's kind of been fast every race even in atlanta never even rode the bike before it was fastest i think the very first session so definitely he's loving that new honda and uh he can really be even a bigger threat if they ever get these electronics sorted out where he can actually use the aids yeah what they decided to do instead they're just using wheelbase for example extending it if they need if they think the wheelies are going to be an issue and also his throttle is actually a little bit shorter of a turn than usual he's got a 45 degree turn there's pedram at the back because he has some old thumb and wrist injuries so they have to run a shorter throttle which could conceivably lead to more wheelies or more traction issues so he's got to be real careful how he applies to power saw pedram hanging in the back of the group is that another thing to just try to keep temperatures down exactly he doesn't want to get back to the grid be one of the first peoples there stop let the bike warm up he wants to be the one of the last people there keep the air flowing through the radiator but it's also it's kind of tricky when you do that you don't really get your tires as warm as you would like but with it being so hot here today i don't think that's gonna be a factor so he's just gonna hang out in the back and try to be the the last guy to get to the grid so he doesn't have to wait as long track temps up just around the triple digits today it's 81 degrees a little bit cooler than it was friday and saturday but a whole lot warmer than it usually is when you go go racing this time of year at road america they say you usually don't see these temperatures until ah august and here we are at the beginning of june so it's a warm-up lap in more ways than one for our stock 1000 division and looks like we're working our way back toward the grid michael gilbert another rider to watch here remember he won our opener and one of the stories to track he's not on the rr kawasaki an all-new bike the homologation special that they'll use legally here and also in world superbike gilbert is on the regular kawasaki and uh that might be a little bit of an advantage crew chief is jason aguilar certainly a accomplished racer in his own right with a couple of titles aguilar was hoping to race superbike this weekend but the bike and the deal didn't come together anyway there's the 55 of gilbert with aguilar as his crew chief they're hoping for more speed today than what they've seen throughout the weekend and a new entrant into the class see the 197 that's one of our contenders in twins cup teague hops jumping up to the big bike for the first time this weekend gonna get his feet wet get some races in plans on uh his goal next year is to raise stock 1000 so it's pretty it's pretty smart come here be able to get a couple races under your belt and see what it's like and teague's a pretty big kid so this thousand might suit him a lot better than someone else who's just jumping on it for the first time so here we go the reset is complete we've done a sight lap and a warm-up lap after a red flag it's time to go racing again at road america in stock 1000 and in just a moment you're going to hear the revs come up watch for the lights we're underway again a good jump for corey alexander on the green 23 but may was better this time and it's a drag race gonna go deep into turn one jake lewis on the inside of the 85 and now pole position will hold up jeff may leads them in stefano mesa got a really bad start he got shuffled back to seventh or eighth wow and he was second in nearly diving for the lead on the original start pegram up there again to the number 73 about fourth place right now but it's jeff may boy that restart definitely worked for him he got shuffled back quickly the first time around this time he's in the lead watch for travis wyman on that number 10 bmw he's trying to make ground up oh mesa has done some work mesa up to the back of pegger pegham's on that red and black ducati and mason's trying to get around him good stuff by the 37 of mesa to try to make up for the bad start he's fit but it's jeff may back by vision wheel leading the way over jake lewis and the altis suzuki nikoi alexander right there in third backed by honos and hudson valley motorcycles and stefano mesa he's looking to try to get by larry parker every corner he's been looking at the inside he just can't make it happen he can see that gap see the top three starting to get away stefano mesa doesn't want to let that happen and may gonna try to threaten to pull a little lead on the 85 of lewis oh and one of the riders through the chicane is that mesa so more problems here's mesa off the start look at the left side on the reason on the restart [Applause] and you can see pedram gets him on the inside of turn one and also wyman around the outside just looks like he broke a little early and the guys on the outside just carried their momentum right around the uh outside of them so tough break early for stefano mesa it goes straight through the chicane the rule is essentially just can't gain the ground there so he gives up only a position or two it's not like he's all the way at the back of the field battle brewing corey alexander all over the back of the 85 of jake lewis for second and we're going to see a draft for the first time in his class not quite and those two there you can see they're both probably the two tallest riders in the field so they're pretty pretty equal on the straightaway and now alexander are going to give it a dive to the inside of lewis not quite enough one of the bummers for stefano mesa too when you do that on the first lap and blow the chicane when everybody's so close it's going to let a lot more riders get past you and you're going to work your way back through a lot more riders if it was five laps into the race you were spread out more it wouldn't hurt as much but now all those guys they got by and he's got to work past him well we saw how aggressive stefano was riding to try to make a quick move on pegram you think that was it it was just diving deep to try to get him it was just went in on the inside a little too deep and you already see he's already back on the end of this group so he uh salvages it pretty good yeah he's an eighth seam around there with yates a couple other riders in this group right here i think he just got there's the eights on that red honda and they're in a pack but what they don't want to have is this lead group of may louis alexander to get away and it is starting to happen pegram there in fourth he's got travis wyman all over him so wyman in the same situation as mesa was alapago he wants to get around pegram and stick with this lead trio andrew lee also this time seventh in this uh opening couple laps it's a great start for him oh yeah lee's been trying to build this program up working on the electronics every weekend on that new kawasaki a two-time champion in this class on the number 14. he's right behind these two wyman on that white bmw still trying to figure out a way around pegrum [Applause] one of those big straightaways that this road america track is famous for wyman gave it a look but couldn't get around pegrum the bmw ducati is going to be pretty equal in the straightaway both those are kind of that's what they're known for is their their top fin speed and it continues every time you see that lead trio they're getting further away now andrew lee has joined that party he is working with wyman to try to get around pegram pedram jumping into this series with wild card entry just to uh celebrate 2009 he won this race anna ducati in the superbike class so they're getting the wayback machine i'll tell you what travis wyman doesn't care but for that storyline he's just trying to get around pegram and he still can't figure out a way [Applause] wyman trying again lee and mesa right there [Music] i'll tell you what larry pegram not full-time in this series he jumps in and out of road racing he'll jump on a flat track bike and go fast he's still pretty darn good the ageless wonder finally flyman finds her way around can he hold it in turn five it was a good passes used that draft was on the inside and turned five when you make a pass there the the thing to do is not blow past them and get in too hard if you can just get in front of them then you have position for that corner and the wiley veteran peg room has been around a long time he's not going to make it easy on andrew lee and the franklin armory disrupts kawasaki's trying to get him right now back to our leaders and the pace at the front's hot last last lap jake lewis 15-0 which is a race lap record so these guys are definitely pushing it may had speed over lewis throughout the week any qualifying but now lewis has the stuff to stay with him so we've got a fantastic three-rider pack and any one of these three could get the lead at any time now the question is can wyman from fourth bridge that gap can he get to these three oh no another big crash [Music] [Applause] trying to pick up a number here [Music] that is the 42 coffee is down luckily he seems to be okay he's getting to the bike gets damaged so jeremy coffey at least he's all right getting up in that gravel trap as we flash back to the leader that is the 99 jeff made back by vision wheel they're not going to be able to race the entire series his goal show up at five races and show what this team can do and maybe pick up enough backing to run for the title next year and he's definitely put his best foot forward leading the way but you're serious later jake lewis ready to pull out of the draft and go for the lead not enough only three to go here but these are long laps [Music] you can see jake it looks like he's trying to set him up in every corner inside outside to see as the lats wind down where he can make the move [Music] and awesome how this class has turned out you have a honda a suzuki a kawasaki a bmw a ducati top five lewis finds the opening into the lead [Music] jake the snake back to the top spot what a recovery some struggles throughout practice qualifying we did not see the pace we'd expect out of your series leader but he has brought it at the right time when the lights went out lewis has found the speed and you can see now he's got his head down he's going to try to pull a gap see if he can't break the draft the honda's really fast so he's going to need to get a nice little gap before they get around to turn 14 so jeff can't use that draft to stay in there one of the things jeff may was worried about running without the electronics of that honda is tire wear a you wear the tire out more b the electronics are better able to compensate for it when you lose that rear tire in the shorter races that they have here is that going to be a factor you think he's all right i was going to say with the race being shorter it's not going to be as big of this advantage as some of the other races so for him a couple laps shorter is going to be going to be doing him a favor mesa back here the 3-7 and the 7-3 pegram trying to hold him off mesa is going to give a big run in and he's made the move up hegrum [Music] and also andrew lee so at one point mesa slipped past lee who's on that number 14. and stefano mace is definitely not out of the podium no he's going to go after wyman and then there's that question can they bridge the gap up to that top three mesa on the move so now it's pegram and lee and behind them you've got gilbert yates and maximiliano girardo then wyatt ferris and jake schmaderer is your top 12. two to go here at road atlanta or sorry road america and oh i thought lee had the move on pegram the bike's holding up for pedram this time it is looks like he had an issue there getting into turn one though ran a little bit wide and i thought andrew made the pass but he didn't didn't make it stick andrew lee works as an iron worker during the week his crew chief jason farrell is out here but it's not the run that we thought farrell pretty fast in this track normally chasing some suspension issues and other things with his bike don't see him in the top 20 right now lee just trying to get around pegram for that number six spot well on a one-off ride pedram has definitely been a factor good enough qualifying position to get a good start and the overheating issues they had have not struck him yet luckily for him there's a little bit of a gap to the group in front of him so there he's gonna be able to get all the air to keep the ducati cooled down oh andrew lee tried everything he could to get pegram on the brakes couldn't do it now they're into the carousel 240 degree and a little bit downhill this right-hander and then the chicane and the kink which is one of the more famous sections also here at road america jake lewis last lap did a 2 14 8 so he's definitely trying to get a little bit of a gap that's the race record so he keeps getting faster every lap [Applause] way to rally for jake lewis as we continue to watch this battle lewis out front so we'll watch pedram trying to hold off lee and gilbert and you can see mesa and wyman about to have their own battle for third and fourth as your leader jake lewis trying to get away then it's may and alexander how about it for the alta suzuki team that won this championship a year ago with cam peterson and as they've been explaining as the white flag comes out they are d cam peterson ising that machine and making it fit that much better for the riding style of jake lewis and it's working now [Music] it's gonna be good on this final lap mesa trying to get to wyman [Applause] [Music] and they finally got around pegram the two kawasaki's of lee and gilbert now ashton yates all over pegram looks like pedram's definitely running into some issues now i'm just going to try to nurse at this last lap and finish the race can yates get by him on the honda i think he's got him on this straightaway gilbert making a move on lee [Music] see if he got him no they're still racing for it side by side that is for sixth and seventh lee able to hold him off and these two they race a lot they do a lot of club racing in california against each other each weekend so they're going to know their strengths and weaknesses it's the more proven the older kawasaki that gilbert's running the new kawasaki for lee working they found a lot of the problems with the lean angle sensor they actually had too much power it wasn't pulling power away enough but that's at our last track in virginia which is a lot tighter so they didn't know if what they learned there would necessarily apply to a big race track here jake lewis meanwhile up front looking to put the finish he touches on it for sure this race has been the strongest ride we've seen out andrew lee all year we've known he's had the talent double super stock champion and now looks like they're getting things figured out so he could be another guy as the season goes on he could be a factor yeah but we were wondering if we could get five winners in five rounds time is running out jeff may could be the fifth winner of the year but i don't think he's gonna get him jake lewis a few turns away from his second race win of the year [Applause] here's your dunlop race pace he dropped the hammer lap five and he's been consistent so lap one he was that was all working through traffic and obviously the standing starts he's been consistent and here it is jake lewis wins here at road america [Music] battle of the line that was lee holding off gilbert so jeff may will take second corey alexander would have loved to have had a rematch with jake lewis for the win here like they did at our last stop may was able to split him and jake lewis jake the snake has two wins now there's jeff may right up alongside him they're gonna pull some wheelies it's a good thing about not having willie control on jeff may's bike to celebrate big time that was a good ride from jake we haven't seen him all weekend i didn't expect it really close to the front it looks like he just was really patient stayed behind jeff for a couple laps maybe he learned something that he'd been missing all weekend and seen the opportunity in turn five and took it and put in some really good laps and uh barely and held him off for the the last lap three podiums and five races for jeff may as he said probably doesn't have the funding to get to all the races this year but he's a factor when he is here good effort by larry pegram and his uh jumping back into the series ride with ducati t-gobs so that is cool for uh teague cops who had a big crash yesterday while battling up front in oh look at this that is the second time we have seen that at a teak hops he had a huge save that was even wilder than that on his twins cup bike early in the weekend then he crashed the bike yesterday and here's t hobbs with a big save again now racing in the stock division one of the young up and coming stars of motor america he's in a good mood right now because that was a near disaster roger check this out the save in slow motion whoa not only that to be able to slow down in the grass with the the tire wall right there and air fences [Music] yeah he gave the team enough work to do with the twins cup bike so he saved him from some damage control there teague hops in his first weekend jumping up on the thousand machine stefano mesa 37 giving congratulations to our winner jake lewis mason's gonna look back and wonder what might have been looked like he had the pace to maybe win this one but didn't get the start the second time around he had a good start in our first start but then red flag came out made that mistake on the the restart trying to get past larry headed into the chicane and it's kind of easy to do when you're on the inside there getting in a little deep to rear ink and background and you had to cut through the chicane but you know he salvaged fifth place which is a a good ride but it was a good point for jake lewis you know we got nine points on corey alexander daniellato michael gilbert and travis wahman as well yeah it's beginning to become a real problem now that lewis has real momentum and the points lead and you got to figure he's going to just keep getting stronger and that bike will get more suited to him he told us when the series began that he had been sitting on the couch drinking beer really wasn't in race shape yet so as he gets fitter he's going to get that much harder to beat [Music] and people are pumped to see jake the snake back in action this year [Music] after missing some time and when he won the race at our last event at virginia he said he really thought that his racing career was over but he had a good relationship with the altis team they actually wanted to bring him in and race his class last year but he wasn't eligible for the stock 1000 division because of the results he had previously had in superbike so he had to wait a year they found a pretty good replacement in cam peterson who dominated this series a year ago and they say with the results they're getting the relationship they have with the superbike team of m4 x-star suzuki grows as well they're hoping to be a jumping-off point maybe someday jake lewis will be back in superbike but right now he's happy with this he's back in the center of the podium i know for sure that's his goal to get back in the center okay well this is how you do it keep building that resume with race wins and big congratulations from his team and we'll show you the geico race results here in a minute this deep class of stock 1000 jake lewis takes the win on the suzuki jeff may second corey alexander finishes up in third travis wyman four stephano mesa fifth so four different brands on the top four here mesa and lee had a good battle all the way to the end lee will end up sixth michael gilbert seventh ashton yates with a late pass his honda around pegram there's only ducati good to have larry back at the races for the weekend definitely one of the great personalities of racing got to hang out with larry a bit this morning he finishes up in ninth larry also won they had a couple of riders out in go-karts on the cart track on the other side and the cheese head challenge and larry's like hey at least i wanted something this weekend tenth goes to wyatt ferris we'll show you the other half of the results gerardo 11 shmater giannatto hunter dunham on the west b yamaha 14 zack schumacher 15th rizziger teague so you saw how that big save just jumping up to the thousand for the first time he finishes up in 17th butler lehman and steven shakespeare the brit rounds out the top 20. that was your stock 100 race for the weekend they only raced once for stock 1000 points like we said it's a big field jeremy coffey had that crash and also jason farrell we thought he might have had something brewing the home track specialist but he had his issues delineate lewis who's been fast all year also outside the top 30 today and i think we're ready down at the podium so let's bring it down to jamie howe and jake lewis becomes our first two-time winner in the 2021 stock 1000 season you weren't in the top three all weekend though you had to work hard for this starting from that fourth position what did you learn honestly i learned a lot in the superbike race yesterday behind corey and jeff and uh man it was just my brain was working all night and just thinking about how i could win and honestly uh going to bed last night i was telling my parents and my team i honestly didn't think i was going to be able to fight for the win you know i was struggling yesterday to keep pace with those two guys and uh when it's race time you know when the shield goes down and the wind matters uh definitely push a lot harder you know i was on the edge uh trying to reel in jeff and i was just looking at my lap timer i was doing low 14s and heck i haven't even been in the 15s all weekend i don't think so a big thank you to the altis motorsports team they've been working their asses off for me uh especially this morning yesterday just trying to get the bike capable of winning and a big thank you to my crew chief eric electronics guy ben fox from m4 has been helping us a lot too to get the bike dialed in my mechanics victor sean working the breaths off for me and a big thank you to hara helmets cortech leathers my personal sponsors raw cloon international service tool and plastics and then just everyone uh that's behind me man this means a lot and uh sleep better tonight for sure knowing that i got it done well the slots you had last night certainly paid off congratulations sarsoc thousand winner jake lewis we are yes they go so many fans here this weekend it's great we're going to move right on over to jeff may it's your third podium position of the 2021 season you got the stock 1000 track record here this weekend what will be the biggest takeaway for you i mean it was it was a great weekend for the honda vision wheel kws motorsports um we're coming out here doing what we can with what we have and it was a great weekend i made a little mistake there towards the end i thought i was going to battle with jake and i had a neutral going into chicane and that that gave him the gap and from that point i just put my head down hoping maybe i could catch him if he made a mistake but he rode super clean he earned it he's riding awesome he deserves to be here you know this guy had to take a seat for a year off and uh he's a guy that we need in this paddock so it's good to see jake win today and um i want to thank my wife today's our 17 year anniversary for putting up with me and my lord jesus christ for uh giving me the faith to get on this motorcycle every weekend what's your wife's name happy anniversary to you and jody that's our second place finisher jeff may we'll move right on over to third place get the round of applause from all of the fans that have stuck out this heat here at road america corey alexander another podium result for you you're one that always say these are bittersweet because you want to be on the top step the race today with all of the bikes that were out there what's your biggest takeaway yeah um i need more horsepower somehow you know i was riding as hard as i could and uh you know we were matching matching our fastest laps the whole weekend and uh they just kept pulling away from me uh so you know i have to give a hats off to my guys they've been working really hard we off the truck this weekend we were really really fast and uh things were working really good they still are it's just these guys picked up a little bit more going into this race and i think the restart kind of uh i did what i wanted to on the first start and then the red flag kind of caught me and i got bumped back a little bit on that second start and that made a little bit more tough i knew if i could lead i could manage the pace a little bit differently but either way uh still really happy i have to give a huge hats off to richie dj chris tim rich millman just everybody that's that's behind us making this whole thing happen all of our sponsors kawasaki hudson valley motorcycles graves motorsports new rage cycles chuck walla raceway the list is so long maximal racing oils vortex ek salz pizza my boys back home iconic prestige services group just everybody uh we're gonna come back stronger and uh you know it's gonna be a long year i think you can see some more of this i thought it would be a more exciting race honestly i thought we'd be able to do some more passing but it was just uh we were going fast such fierce competition though nice job to hang in there it's corey alexander our third place finisher today one more round of applause from the fans nice job gentlemen yeah thank you jamie mr smooth there corey alexander he's pushing it but it doesn't look like it here you see him in third and there's that gap that he was trying to make up to get to may and lewis who were battling for that number one position and then it was a second pack wyman mesa lee gilbert yates pegram ferris who rounded out the top 10. so there is your podium they'll get up on the box and celebrate and spray some champagne we'll show you how this race went down and how jake lewis was able to take the win a completely different look at this race after the restart it was alexander and mesa the first time around may with a better jump this time see the first start there mesa and alexander going for it as they got around pulsator but there it was this crash that led to a red flag both riders were able to walk off may a little better jump this time as he battles at alexander but look at lewis right in there lewis got a lot better start the biggest loser in that red flag was stefano may said he lost a lot of mistakes tried to rush it the first lap made a mistake and the chicane and had to go straight absolutely so he was mired in traffic may held the lead lewis and alexander were setting him up then it was larry pegram here in fourth under ducati so two different packs developed but finally lewis found the opening made the pass in the turn five where we see a lot of pass and here you can see stefano mesa working his way back through the the pack after that mistaken as chicane worked his way up to fifth which is a good way to salvage after a big mistake like that absolutely first lap you don't want to do it once lewis had the lead he inched away then as may said he made one mistake that prevented him from trying to take the fight back to him so jake the snake jake lewis on the altus suzuki takes the win on his number 85 and there you see the gap back to may and corey alexander after they rolled through the start finish line and the number 10 of wyman in the bmw back there in fourth same thing he just needed a little better start as two packs develop so as deep as this stock 1000 class is we now have a rider trying to make a breakaway in points our first two-time winner this year is jake lewis see him in the center of the podium and they get the cheers from the fans that's great to have huge crowds back here at moto america this year flanked by may and alexander on the box and here are your standings now 18 louis over may and may said hey i'm probably not going to race all the races so it's looking good for jake right now and almost you know 22 points to a couple of the other guys in 23 it's always really the goal is to get it over 25 point lead because then you always have a buffer of one race in case there's an accident then you're still going to be in the lead okay so jake lewis working on the insurance policy trying to build that point slate as much as possible as he said he wasn't he was struggling to get 215s all weekend and he ends up with a 2-14 in the race he really stepped up it's impressive we looked at the rest of the points in the class wyatt ferris learning uh the suzuki as he's jumped over to the m4 x-star team this is his best race of the year he is tenth at points and we'll bring you all the way through top 25 in these standings because this is one of the biggest classes out here and more talent jumping into this class we've mentioned teague hobbs jumping into this division it has been a wild weekend fatigue hobbs who was your points leader in the twins cup class coming into this weekend and then he had a couple of saves and then one that he could not save we'll show you all this watch t hops here in his twins cup bike he's going down for sure right unbelievable raj it will save the save of the day save for the weekend so far yep and then another huge save here on his kawasaki in stock 1000 getting thrown all over the place kept it up in the grass too this one was the most impressive one so he actually topped himself he topped himself okay roger says degree difficulty was higher that is it for stock 1000 super sport bikes are out on track there's nolan lampkin there it was a podium finisher earlier in the season was definitely in the fight you folks are in for a good one if it's anything like the super sport race from yesterday it's going to be fantastic 30 some passes to the lead between sean dylan kelly and richie escalante and then they both went down battling on the last lap and that allowed stefano mesa to grab the win i haven't seen nearly as many road races as you roger hayden but i'm going to guess that's still one of the best ones you've seen that is one of the best ones i've ever seen though they erased that whole race like it was the last lap trying to pass each other every corner it was uh really entertaining to see and i think today we're in for the same thing yeah it looked like everybody got up okay they both finished the race and scored some points and hopefully no injuries left over from yesterday either we were bench racing up here in the booth watching that battle would you have maybe just settled down and maybe sat behind because they were literally trying to pass each other every opportunity they had the entire race it just depends what what your strategy is they were definitely looks like they were taking a lot of risk with all the passes they were we're making but one of those two have such a rivalry they want to establish the dominance yeah then no one wants to sit behind anybody in a battle like that shawn dylan kelly richie escalante going to be a rematch here after they were battling for the lead and crashed out of it at our last race stefano mesa can he win again and there's some other big factors stay with us you
