I'm sure he wasn't actually thinking about this, but the Gerald Green's brother play I can see as being an good play. Hear me out.

They were down 2 with 0.4 seconds left on the second free throw. If I were the guy shooting the free throw, I would miss on purpose since there's not enough time to get the rebound and take a good shot.

Therefore if I'm on the other team, knowing that they might try to miss on purpose, I would goaltend the free throw, which I'm assuming would automatically score the 1 point without taking any time off the clock. Now you're still within one possession and have at least a chance to get a shot off.
