Morehouse School of Medicine – The Power of Possible

[Music] becoming a physician is my lifelong dream either go into academia do a postdoc be head of a lab eventually I'm going to go into family medicine and then from there I may go into my own practice family or internal medicine that's where my passion is my ultimate goal is to be in health care administration or leave some kind of lobbyists that we have policy hello my name is mommy was my name is my name is my name is Christopher Oh camera Robinson Macy McNair Michael J Cleveland Monet Finnell and I am I am and I am Morehouse courthouse Morehouse School of Medicine I am Morehouse School of Medicine [Music] what inspired me to pursue the OBGYN specialty is my mom she had to have a hysterectomy during my sophomore year of college I wanted to understand why underserved minority populations weren't at that time offered laparoscopic treatments and it's very important for me to be in an institution that will teach me how to address these issues in the proper way so receiving a scholarship has of course impacted me greatly we all know that the cost of medical school is exceedingly high and having a scholarship offsets a lot of that I don't have to worry about being in as much debt or paying it all off as much as I would have if I had not received a scholarship at all knowing that someone got enough of me to give me the money to help offset that cost meant the world to me I'm from st. Louis Missouri and more specifically from the North County area for help I know Ferguson Missouri so I want to go back home and kind of open up shop there because the community really needs it and I guess the reason I can walk through this and I only would be a doctor to offer be a leader in the community 10 years ago I lost my first cousin and how did she die like she was my big supporter she was my best friend but I gained the new insight and a purpose and a funny thing if I have to cheap ass throw out our funeral I google medical schools they help people and when I flew a Miss and popped up no more social missions so it was all 16 2008 I'm gonna trying to get the Morehouse School of Medicine and I'm here now I want to vest in the land on this the same booth I want to go back to my undergrad home in Jackson Mississippi and invest and with the scholarship I'm unable to invest fastest but having a scholarship from our school ELISA allowed me to not worry about any finances and just focus solely on studying training for the PhD having a scholarship just removes the worry of finances off my back and I can't be more painful so when I found out I got the scholarship from also first I was accepted that was pretty happy about that I was like oh my god I finally got accepted to graduate school so that's really awesome but then I got a letter of scholarship for a PhD and I was overwhelmed I was sighted happy a little nervous because like someone that's put in their hard earned money to basically believe in my dream of becoming a PhD side I like talking to people I like working with people I just I love those are things that make me happy so medicine is where I found my home so what makes Morehouse School of Medicine special is really the family environment because that's what was gonna be hard anywhere you go but to have an environment a supportive environment a loving environment as you go through it makes it so much better for me receiving a scholarship it reinforces for me the need to give back so knowing that someone cared about my education enough to donate their personal funds or their organization funds I'm just honored that someone that people in general are so willing to continue to invest in our future the moment I found out that I received a scholarship for Morehouse School of Medicine I felt delete it like just to know I won't have to worry about that aspect of how much it's gonna cost to supply my dream my original pamphlet to be a doctor then I got into my first organic chemistry class but I was like you know this is not for me I hated everything about it that's all my students at some public health courses and I fell in love with the community engagement I fell in love with just going out meeting people telling them and seeing the transformation the power possible kind of fuel my entire life we sold when he is possible like and powerful if nothing that's like I had too long each time you donate each time you reach out to a student your sister student it just keeps and it's like an exponential curve it just goes up you you ain't still that in someone to continue to give and so the power possible means that there isn't a limit felt to me the power possible means being encouraged and in able to do something you've always dreamed of all right every student that came to do it has a story of soul the power of possibly I'm the power possible like that I'm part of the power possible I really really really want to tell you thank you I'm after myself my classmates that student body here right here more for the medicine I've run up thank you thank you for giving me this opportunity through ten bars for medicine with your hard-earned dollars in order to help me fulfill my dreams aspirations and career rules in order to make the world a better place so thank you so so much for allowing me this opportunity thank you for investing in me and not knowing these yet for believing in the mission we were in hustle student when believing that we would be in favor for positive change and I hope that you continue to give to our students thank you so much for your contribution and God bless thank you thank you thank you thank you [Music] what is it that makes it special well make more out first I want to be on fire we have not feel
