Great video . And I don’t even care for cycling. As a kid , I always heard the name Lance Armstrong . Didn’t he get in trouble for using steroids and they stripped him of his medals?

looking back at the history of cycling we come across moments that are engraved in every cycling fan's memory surprising or shocking turns of events that nobody expected a bike race to offer and it's always a pleasure to go back and relive them to better experience these moments again details prior during and after they happened are necessary and providing context is essential for people that are going to experience these events for the first time as for episode 1 we've picked five unique moments so sit back and enjoy this compilation of the most unforgettable moments in cycling history an unexpected chaos at the finale of stage 12 of the 2016 tour de france defending champion chris froome was inside the final kilometer heading towards the finish along with two of his rivals when a tv motorbike suddenly stopped right in front of them [Music] all three riders crashed into the motor with minor to no injuries they quickly got back on their bikes and got going except for froome whose bike got run over by another motorbike that was following them with the team car way behind down the climb he would have to wait for five minutes or more for his second bike to arrive he found himself in a helpless situation the panic of losing the yellow jersey started to kick in instead of waiting and to limit his losses he [Music] he hasn't got his bike well this i have never ever seen before the man born in kenya attempted what kenyans excel at but his cycling shoes didn't help well this is bizarre this tour de france look at he tried a neutral service bike before switching to a third bike once his team car finally arrived just about 200 meters before the finish line his face when crossing the finish line reflects his frustration and disappointment according to the uci rulebook a cyclist can cross the line on foot only if they have their bike with them later reports suggested that the motorcycle stopped because the road was blocked by people at the end of the day the race jury ruled that froome should retain the yellow jersey and was given the same time as the riders he was around at the moment of the crash this incident took place on the 14th of july 2016 exactly 13 years from our next story [Applause] it is july the 14th one of the hottest days of the year in 2003 another incident that involves the yellow jersey at stage nine of the tour de france lance armstrong the leader of the overall classification and yoshiba boloki one of his main rivals at the time and second in the gc were racing on their limits recklessly trying to gain every possible advantage on each other as they descended towards the alpine town of gap going downhill at this velocity on these melting roads any simple error could cost everything [Music] there going around the corner a little twitch of the front wheel he's taking a lot of risks here he's only leading by 10 seconds the difficult thing on a day like this is in fact the toe of the lock isn't it but he's gone down armstrong's off the road as well armstrong complete control there he's into the field but what a great bike rider he's gone across this is unbelievable i've never seen this before armstrong went across the field there he's back on the road with four kilometers to go what great reflexes from the man from texas with just four kilometers to go coming into a sharp right hand bend the spaniard hit a molten tarmac patch his bike locked up drifted out of control and knocked him onto the ground in a horrible scene right behind him lance nearly losing control of the bike goes on the outside off the road and into a hayfield in cyclocross style he was able to ride across the field cutting off an entire hairpin bend while the rest of the group continued their descent on the road at the bottom end of the field he jumps a ditch and gets back on his bike just in time to rejoin the group he was in when interviewed in post-race armstrong said all the corners were melting there was ash felt but it was bubbling he was racing the race and racing aggressively the spaniard fractured his right thigh wrist and elbow and had to be taken from the course in an ambulance although he was back to racing the following year he never fully recovered from this crash he retired from the sport in 2006. this incident sparked a bit of a controversy as one side believed that taking such a shortcut is illegal and lance should have been penalized for that while others find this to be fine as there wasn't much for him to do at that speed and because of the downhill terrain things happened too quickly and he gained no advantage over the group he was in that exact bend is now remembered as the below corner among the cycling community stage seven of the 2012 presidential tour of turkey a seemingly typical cycling race ended up having one of the most dramatic endings in modern cycling our protagonist is the 29 year old belgian elio kaiser his huge success on the track didn't translate to road racing as he faced persistent bad luck and very disappointing results this was his ninth season as a professional rider but he had yet to get his first victory on this day the belgian was part of an early seven-man breakaway they had stayed at the front the whole day but as the race approached the final kilometers the peloton started devouring their advantage very quickly with only six kilometers remaining kaiser launched a promising solo attack this man though has decided to go alone he's uh he's absolutely fed up trying to form alliances of doing most the work at the front things looked to be finally going his way as he gained a 14 second lead over his former breakaway group and a 40 seconds lead over the peloton having this gap with only a thousand meters remaining it was his race to lose until absolutely does here is your switch bang oh no he's down oh count the seconds quickly rematch getting yourself sort of chains off his chains off oh nightmare scenario what a shame count the seconds back they're gonna get him oh heartbreak here on that very last the sight of the peloton surging towards him is enough to break anyone's spirit in a situation like this he's not gonna get going and here come the budget they're gonna sail by the poor man oh drama here yeah we still get another crash but he's up and going the front broadcasting camera is back and surprisingly kaiser is in the frame going full gas with a slim 50 meter lead you've got to pray for this surely everybody here he comes side of the road he's still gonna watch it though the chargers are on to him right now with 300 to go i think it's going to be a huge half right here grab a banker busted themselves they're busy getting this train sorted out here it's going to be rental for them oh and goes over to the other side of the road oh they're going to get caught here he's going to get caught kaiser is going to get wounded and so with just 100 meters to go 50 to go now count him home scream him on we're doing so ah he takes it joy for cycling fans globally what an effort that was he impressively managed to hold off a hard charging pack of pure sprinters securing the biggest win of his career this was a race packed with drama unpredictability riders self-confidence and composure and of course the comeback these are ingredients of an entertaining race that every cycling fan loves to see and we were lucky to have such a passionate commentator on this particular day job she's so happy oh me too me too i tell you if you've watched this live today you i hope you fell off your seat because i did that was fabulous it doesn't get more dramatic than that our next story dates back to 2002 with the early season race the tour down under this new race in the uci calendar created great opportunities for young australian cyclists to showcase their talents michael rogers 22 at the time was one of the brightest talents and he demonstrated that on stage two where he won a field sprint a win that promoted him to second place overall by just a mere second behind the yellow jersey the standings in the top ten remained unchanged until stage five where roger's team realized they are running out of chances to get the yellow jersey at the start of the penultimate stage they got into a break of favorites and managed to create a gap of six minutes ahead of the yellow jersey group which meant the new gc leader will be from this breakaway rogers being the closest to wear the yellow however in the later part of the stage he was involved in a collision with a motorbike that resulted in the detachment of the derailleur from the bike frame in frustration rogers throws his bike to the ground and sees his chances fade away as he waits for the replacement bike to arrive as he looks around a spectator offered him his bike which rogers didn't hesitate to get on and suddenly he was back racing on a fan's bike what are the odds that the bike he got from the side of the road happened to be an exact copy of the one he just threw same manufacturer same module and size even better that bike has the right pedals on it that fit his cycling shoes he managed to rejoin the group after they had a 30 seconds lead on him and he went even further to get three bonus seconds in the intermediate sprint he was able to finish in second place that day which promoted him into the top of the general classification [Music] in the final stage michael rogers and his team were successful at protecting the yellow jersey he became the winner of the fourth edition of tour down under our last pick is chronologically the most recent one the 2019 amstel gold race a 265 kilometer long parkour throughout the hilly region of limburg to the south of the netherlands the biggest race on this bicycle-loving country the dutch had high hopes for their young cyclocross star matthew van der pol who is making his debut at this classic race during the race he tried to go solo with 44 kilometers to go but he was brought back a few minutes later this failed attempt cost him a significant amount of energy he went on to sit inside the main group for recovery the more experienced race favorites made their moves breaking the race into several groups with 35 kilometers to go the race was led by frenchman julian allah philippe and danish rider jacob fulsang and they were followed by several chasers scattered all the way to the main group at the back which includes vanderpole usually at such a course gaps are super difficult to close and bridging these gaps requires an immense amount of effort and cooperation of several parties even the tv race coverage didn't feature the main group because the broadcasters believed like everybody else that their race was over but what nobody saw everybody missed it we missed it because we were watching tv but tv missing and i don't blame them and as you see from a distance with maybe six or seven k to go you see this group of eight and you see this this animal vanderpool on the front pulling them he is pulling them all they they can't even pull through balcomoloma is on is the eighth wheel and he's he's like swinging he can't hold the wheel van de pol rolled up his sleeves and started chasing back from the main group with only seven kilometers remaining dragging a bunch of grand tour level names along with him although they were not providing enough support in the chasing the young dutchman took it upon himself and never looked back the gap was still about a minute with only three kilometers to go it looked like any chance of victory had sailed at the front the duo were confident that the first and second positions had been secured the mind games began and a series of attacks and counter-attacks took place in the end phil sang sat on the saddle and tried to force julian to do the work the frenchman took it easy and slow to conserve every bit of energy for the sprint their slow pace allowed kietkovsky to catch up to them a thing they did not see coming as they were informed that they had a 20-second gap on him in reality it was less than half of that this is when they started to realize their cat and mouse tactics could backfire coming into the home straight the trio at the front looked over their shoulders with apparent nervousness on their faces as they saw vanderpol chasing them like a wild predator just slow enough to go again this one is gonna come down to a sprint by a deadbolt [Applause] as he crossed the finish line he shook his head in disbelief and so did everyone watching although there were riders on his wheel no one could come around him in 99 of the time the rider who does the chasing or the lead out has no chance of winning the sprint this guy made an attack from 44 kilometers out failed and was swallowed by the peloton did most of the chasing for the last seven kilometers closed a seemingly impossible to plug time gap then launched a 400 meter long sprint dominating everyone out there a feat that left the world speechless and one for the history books this is the first part of many to come feel free to submit your suggestions in the comments section support the channel by liking the video and subscribing
