[Music] i'm christian knee and i'm here at new york comic con interviewing artist for proco [Music] hi do you want to introduce yourself sure my name is chrissy zulo i'm a comic book artist i've done stuff for dc lucasfilm um just a little bit of everything and i'm here at comic-con nice as a professional artist what do you wish you had started doing earlier in your career i don't know you're your own worst critic so i always look back and i'm always like oh i wish i did this instead and i wish i did this instead but i think that's part of the process is like i try not to look back and just kind of look forward so i wouldn't really change anything i feel like i did the best i could and i'm still doing the best i can [Music] would you like to introduce yourself yeah um i'm valencia i mostly just do um freelance illustrations but i also have a web comment called countdown to countdown as a professional artist what do you wish you had started doing earlier in your career i would say i started as early as possible i was um i think i was like doing freelance since i was 16 or 17. so i don't regret starting that young but i do regret uh maybe not you know enjoying teenage years to my fullest i guess my name is jerome alpena comic book artist illustrator to be honest i think when i started i didn't really take it as seriously as i think i should have yeah it took me a long time to kind of get there and you know i've been working from home for quite a while and that in itself is a challenge especially early on just telling yourself to sit down and draw rather than play video games all day you know which is what i used to do yeah but uh yeah i think just being a professional at least for me it was it was a bit of a challenge [Music] my name is tron i'm a freelance illustrator i also do murals and i work with galleries as well i wish i didn't follow the rules as much i wish i um went out and did stuff outside of art college i mean our college helped a lot but i think i wish i spent more time doing like the like focused workshops so i wish i kind of like expanded and went out of the box my name is nico smith i am an illustrator storyteller and a instructor as well probably networking i would say just hearing stories of artists that i know today that grew up like in places like in new york where you know the comics industry was the center of it saying how they would just go up to artists as they were teenagers asking the questions and those artists would bring them into their studio to assist them you know to show them the rules i mean i grew up in dc and my hardest friends but didn't know many art friends that were in the comic industry and so that i would probably would do a little bit differently i would talk to artists as a kid i didn't know the business of the art field itself [Music] hi i am jusu my real name is jacqueline chow i go about you so online just stop caring about what other people think just draw what you want to draw i know there's like a meta per se to growing and getting your work out there and like yes you should push yourself to draw things you're not comfortable with but i don't ever think you should be drawing things for other people and i found for my work that i really started to get the opportunities and connections that i wanted and reaching the audience that i really connected with after i said it and just drew whatever i wanted right yeah and i totally wish that i just had done this like years ago i'm gonna thank you for doing this uh yeah this was super cool yeah and i'm super flattered when you came up you're just like oh yeah we're gonna like ask the pros and like me yeah you're a pro i'm like homegrown [Music] every time we go to a convention we see tons of awesome figures of our favorite heroes villains and everything in between these figures don't just materialize out of thin air they're the result of untold hours of dedication from sculpting masters who call upon the vast knowledge of the sculpting sages who came before them to bring these awe-inspiring characters to life you don't have to embark on an arduous journey or be bit by a radioactive spider to learn these skills no in fact proco.com has a sculpting course that will put you on the path to clay-based enlightenment this course will teach you everything you need to know about sculpting figures from building dynamic armatures for action-packed poses to perfecting anatomy so that your sculptures look ready to spring to life your journey of a thousand miles starts with a single sculpt so head to proga.com sculpture to learn more [Music]
