hey everybody welcome to today's video i'm super excited i'm bringing you another minimalist video and today we are talking minimalist homeschool space so one thing that i wanted to touch on was that if you are new to my channel i have actually been homeschooling for three years now i started homeschooling my son in kindergarten he's now in second grade and my daughter is in kindergarten so this was not brought on by the coronavirus we have always homeschooled and it just works super well with our family the next thing that i want to talk about is that i hope this video can bring you some encouragement especially if you are thinking about homeschooling um or considering homeschooling or you've just started homeschooling but you don't have a big space to homeschool it can be really hard when you see some of these amazing homeschool videos where they've got the huge homeschool room set up they're beautiful videos i actually enjoy watching most of them but if you don't have that space sometimes you might think well i am not going to be able to do this because i don't have a big beautiful homeschool room or i don't have the space for homeschooling but that could not be further from the truth so with that being said i will go ahead and kind of share with you guys what we have in this dresser but we've done this since the beginning we started homeschooling in this house i used to have some of their stuff in a closet the organization didn't work out real well so we ended up putting a dresser in here and it it works out perfectly for us because right now i'm only homeschooling two kiddos so it's very easy and simple we also homeschool around the kitchen table or we homeschool around the coffee table i don't have a classroom set up i'm not a sit in your desk and do your work type of a teacher if you will that's just not my style so we are very flexible we are very go with the flow and it just works out so much better for me and my kiddos so i'm gonna stop chatting right now and we're gonna go ahead and take a look at the dresser behind me okay so this is it and yes i have a lazy dog just taking a nap over here but this is the dresser where we store all of our homeschool stuff except for maybe a few books but as you can see there's a few handles that broke off that i do need to replace those but it's not a necessity right at the moment so i'm not too worried about that up here i just have a lamp the be kind sign and this candy dish with some of the halloween candy in it but our first drawer has a variety of a few things that we need like our pencils pens sharpies we have glue sticks i have some card games and a couple little educational games in here and a hole punch we have our rulers scissors um some tacks some dice staples just kind of like the things that i need they're just all organized up in the front drawer and of course the big thing of expo markers so that is the very first drawer the second drawer is coloring books little activity books coloring books coloring pages um notebooks i get these notebooks when they're on sale around the beginning of the school year because my kiddos like to create their own comic books so this is just the drawer they can go to they know when they want to color something they can come here and pick out whatever they want and down here i do actually have a box of markers we have a lot of markers so they just fit in that tub and the tub itself does not fit in this dresser so that's why it is on the floor then the next drawer we have stuff that we use every morning kind of before we start our core curriculum so i have these learning dynamics books my son does not really care for the good and the beautiful readers so i went ahead and got him a different phonics program he loves this so much better and my daughter loves these too so this is what we do as far as their readers then i have the pledge of allegiance book which we don't really use the book anymore because they know the pledge of allegiance but i kind of hold it up and we use that as our flag then we have two white boards that the kids use we'll practice writing the date on here i do have this magnetic calendar from melissa and doug which i do love if you have little kids but we've kind of been branching away from that or we'll go back and forth i like to write the date out on the whiteboard so they can see the month the day and the year how it's supposed to be written down if you were to write it on paper so like i said we kind of go back and forth then we do our history it's just a read aloud right now we're doing the brave pilgrims and it's perfect timing because it is november we're halfway done so hopefully we'll be able to finish this before thanksgiving or right at thanksgiving then the next thing we have is our laugh and learn bible now my son has his own personal bible but this is one that we just kind of use for curriculum purposes it's really cute and it definitely keeps the kids engaged especially if you have young kids because it is it's laugh and learn so they have some funny jokes in here and they try to keep things really light so that's nice for the kiddos um and then behind here i just have a folder that has their handwriting sheets in it so that is it for this drawer like i said this is just something we go to every single day [Music] the next drawer is my daughter's and what you are not gonna see in here is a workbook for the good and the beautiful um basically this has all the accessories that go with the good and the beautiful workbook and then all the little manipulatives for math and everything like that the thing was this year when i went to get their curriculum it was completely sold out so what they did was they sold pdf versions where you could just buy them download them and print them off the computer so that's exactly what we did so right in here it's just little readers which she doesn't mind using these um but my son didn't really care for those like i said that's why we had the other readers and then i just have some extra handwriting sheets and a level k reader but i just print off her lessons every single day from the computer and it keeps it nice and simple and then i'm not taking a bunch of space up with the workbooks and then for the last drawer this is my son's so we have his math activity box this was for levels one and two so he used this last year he's using them again this year but it is just all of his manipulatives and the different things that we use for his math and then it also came with a bunch of sheets and charts to use for both level one and level two so i just keep them here in this little folder and like i said i just print off their lessons they're all loaded up on my computer i print them off as i need them and that's it so these drawers are pretty empty as far as homeschool drawers go but it actually keeps things way more organized but that is it you guys as far as where i keep all of our homeschool curriculum it is all right here i do have a lot of books in the hall closet whether they are holiday related or they're just a specific subject i have those in there and we get those as we need them but i don't put them in this dresser because there are more books than what i can fit in this dresser so that's the one thing that i am not minimalist about is the amount of books that we have because you can just do so much learning through books so like i said before if you have space for a homeschool room that is great the most important thing is that you do what is best for you and your family and your home and the space that you have available for us this small space works out just fine we enjoy homeschooling on the floor and just being with one another and learning together that is really what it is all about so as nice as those big home school rooms are it is not a requirement for homeschooling so i hope you guys enjoyed this video don't forget to give it a big thumbs up if you like homeschooling content and click that subscribe button down below and join my youtube family and with that being said i will see you guys on the next video bye you
