so there i was minding my own business removing a turbo from a diesel forklift i got my hand on this going like this pushing on it so as to when the bolt broke loose i didn't smash my hand to the object that was right next to it and instead of smashing my hand it hit this little paddle jobby and snapped the switch off luckily for me it kind of holds itself in there so it was still usable until i got a replacement part now i mean the ironic thing is is that this little paddle dingus right here they got the same thing on the m12 fuel version of this it's it's absolutely pointless for these electric ones and the reason being is is that um it's just a throwback from the old pneumatic ratchets this is a blue point it's a blue point made in japan well yeah this is pretty old but uh yeah this is just a quarter inch version of that with the 3 8 3 8 wobble head on this is actually an awesome awesome little tool don't use it too much anymore but getting back to the little paddle um the old pneumatic um ratchets you can see down inside there let me get a little pointy object here uh they had this the the valve was down inside here because it had to be because the electric sorry the uh pneumatic motor down here um takes up all this space so it had to be down here and then this little paddle dingus was here basically just to give you a little bit of leverage and a little bit of resolution when you're um turning the thing on and off now with the milwaukee i mean it's an electric switch so you don't need any leverage or anything of that nature because uh yeah it's just an electric switch but i guess they included this because middle-aged guys like me don't like change and i guess they figure if they make it look as much like the the old ones you'd be more likely to buy it i guess but um so i kind of lipped through this through the rest of the week hoping that this didn't fall out and i'd lose it and i use this on a daily basis uh it's more useful than most people i know and i actually had another video planned for today but um this is a convenient um convenient a little little accident here because it's hotter than satan's balls out and i could do this video inside whereas to the other video i had to do um outside so let's uh let's get into this thing now let's start off by removing the battery of course and um give it a good cleaning i just personally like to work on clean things these um tub of towels they're not sponsored although the lady who handles their social media um it's a real sweet lady she heard me say something nice about their product a while back that's where i got my tub of towel t-shirts some people have asked me about but uh yeah it's a great product i love it i keep it in my direct me link um this is a small 40 40 towel count i keep the 90 uh hell count on my uh my van but um those things come in handy everywheres they're really good for cleaning your tools without messing up the plastic like uh brake clicker would what do they do about this i've only had it for six months again i think it's probably the best game in town um the part for this is 50 bucks and i think these go for about 110 so you're a little below the uh the not worth fixing um threshold for me but uh that's pretty nasty but you know if i could fix it i might as well fix it it's better than throwing it in a landfill [Music] all right there we go that's a lot cleaner than it was a second ago so at best i can tell we need to start off by removing this your paddle um i got a smallest punch i have and a little teeny tiny hammer to give it the old the old wacko wacka hopefully it's small enough hopefully the hammer is big enough for out to go out to my van and get my purse why don't we do it that way there you go i got it moving it's a little tight get some vice grips i don't want to over compress that spring clip but i also don't want to there we go i got it out right there where we can lose it later oh you know i i forgot to mention the switch this i had ow staple in my finger um this i do a little digging around for i ended up getting this one on ebay i did find one seller on amazon they wanted 90 bucks for it so they can kiss my ass with that price uh ebay they there's a bunch of sellers that go from 40 to 55 bucks i think is what i saw i got a 50 one just because it was closer and uh i didn't feel like waiting a week for it to show up and uh yeah that's basically what you got there i mean technically i only need this piece right here but i guess to make it worth their while to sell it they give you all the rest of this so we'll stick that over there for when we're ready for it all right let's get into it i don't think we need that anymore so you know i'm kind of looking at it i might be able to fix that switch see how long this video goes maybe i'll maybe i'll try to rig that so as far as i could tell you need a t15 which is this guy for these one two three four bolts or screws right there and i got a t9 which is a little bit loose it might need a t10 but i mean t9 is all i got so you gotta get a poop with the butthole god gave you i guess so let's do that i'm gonna wrap i'm gonna wrap a little tape around this just so it comes apart when i wanted to and now while i'm taking it apart anyway there in case anything goes flying i kind of get a better idea where it came from all right there you go that's all of them on second thought let me put these back in on one half of the clam shell and maybe that will hold the head in place when um i'm taking this apart because where's thing is when you're doing anything like this is something goes flying out and you don't know where it went so i might have to undo that but as a precautionary measure let's give it a try take the security tape off and this is the side that isn't screwed oh there you go it's not bad there's the uh the locking mechanism which comes in handy for when it's sitting in your tool bag all right so let me take a picture just for reference which you should always do when you're taking something apart you never took apart before and it does look like that the motor wires are soldered on so i will have to take out the motor assembly which is fine but let's take a little bit of precaution and save you a lot of time you know i'm gonna have to solder the thing it would have been nice if they would have just sold the damn switch it would have saved me a lot of time all right so let's give ourselves a little mark here red for positive and let's get the soldering iron set up all right we got some 60 40 lead tin solder my sponge soldering station uh soldering station and the um the uh copper wool here i guess is what you'd call it i always link this in my direct me link people always ask what kind of soldering station i use the one i have is it's a chinese one but um it's always served me well and it's not that expensive so i always use it so we'll start off by a little bit of flux this is uh no clean liquid flux we'll tend to tip a little bit and we'll add a little bit of solder just helps the old stuff melt better get my roach clips hopefully this pulls right off there we go and they soldered that one from the top it's kind of a pain in the ass isn't it it's led out of the way there we go let me get something to keep this thing from rolling around because that seems like it's going to turn into a pain in the ass i think that'll work there we go i can't seem to find my solder wick so i'm going to use a solder sucker worst case scenario i'll just lay the lay the wire on top of it and leave it that way it's not really going to affect anything but i'd like to punch it through the hole just to give it a better connection and get some fresh solder on there and basically how this works is you plunge it down and you stick this on what you're trying to suck the solder out of while it's molten and [Music] it sucks the solder it almost worked solder work with solder wick works better actually but damn actually worked pretty good let's flip it over and hit the other side no more fresh solder solder i'm sorry for you guys in the uh united kingdom there damn all right that actually worked pretty good never had much success with this thing but apparently i was wrong let's get this up here out of the way and the new switch is here and there's our red and our white give those a little twist and we'll tin them up imagine it before in other videos but that smoke you're seeing right there isn't lead it's just the uh the flux burning off which is basically pine cone resin so it's the equivalent of standing next to a campfire there we go there you go let's crop those down a little bit right up the bottom fresh flux clean iron don't need that anymore and let's attach the wire now i get a lot of people ask me about this mat um basically this is just a it's like a hobby mat uh it's heat resistant and it's also uh uh spark resistant or static resistant i guess i should i guess i should say um i think i got it off a chinese ebay cellar years and years ago and um yeah works good i used to use those those uh self-healing mats the green ones that you use for like quilting and cutting out stickers and whatnot and the problem i always had with those is that um i leave my soldering iron on it for a little bit and uh they burn holes in them and they look horrible so this one i've had for years and i kind of like it all right that's that now here's the fun part of getting all the little fidgety bits of these wires in their slots and getting everything back together so the clamshell doesn't pinch i think i'll put these screws back in just to hold everything together so that'll hold everything in place for me well according to my picture this red and white wire snugs up behind there that little plastic flap right there this obviously goes up here let's me like this end goes here like so yeah i could already tell this is going to be a pain in the balls all right that was a pain in the tits just gotta make sure this wire is below the surface of the clamshell where it's going to pinch it when i close everything up all right well that was fiddly as hell and i'm uh certainly glad i took a picture because i had to look at it like four times and uh let's see if the uh clam shell go back together that feels like it's back together the led is going to give me trouble there we go okay now this is an old mechanic superstition and it's basically uh you always test it before you put the last screw in the led still works there we go [Music] other mechanic superstitions is you never say this will be easy you also never say we're almost done because all those things will mess your day up all right well it took me a half a second to figure it out and uh some of you might have caught it i certainly didn't but one of these screws for this clam shell the one that goes up here is shorter than the rest of these so i just had to find a short one i took out and switch them and now we're good to go the problem i was having was the screw was coming out through here and it was interfering with the uh aforementioned paddle so yeah we're all back together now so let's uh use this here little drill bit is like a drift put the paddle back on there we go final test lock still works led still works battery indicator still works goes that way and it goes that way so there we go now i'm looking at this here switch and there's a hole in the center of it and there's a hole in the switch i'm sure that's not a designed weak point in hint but um i'm thinking i'm not going to do it now i think this video went on long enough but if i ever need to replace this with this one which i'm sure i will as easy as it broke the first time i will uh maybe try putting a pen in there and glue the pin in because if i if i just glue that in there it's gonna stick on the inside and then it won't work at all but uh for another time i'll wrap this back up into plastic and throw it in a box and probably 10 years later find it and then just throw it in the trash like i do with a lot of things but uh i'll keep a hold of it you never know one of these one of these little fets might burn out or something like that or the led might stop working but uh hold on to it so we're gonna close this one off the opposite a hostage cam i'm usually facing in the other direction but i figure you know maybe i'll flip it around it'll be better you can see my spare bedroom that i stole uh the only thing makes it a bedroom anymore is is a bed back there but this is where i do all my hobby stuff face it in the other direction i got my tv over there my recliner over there and uh it keeps me away from my wife and the crappy tv she likes to watch but back on topic uh yes we fixed the thing um like i said 50 bucks for 110 tool that was only six months old i think that was worth it to me um i do know to watch out for this little switch which i could argue is actually a weak point to get you to break it so you buy a new one but um hopefully the next one lasts longer than six months because uh yeah that would suck if i had to do it again so um but yeah i mean like i said i i like this tool i use it every day uh it's the best one as far as as far as i could tell in the market for this as far as form factor goes and that's why that's why i really like it so uh we got it fixed and i i recommend anybody you got you get any tool or anything in your house you know the ship breaks take it apart see if you can find it sometimes it's just a fuse i had a microwave blow a fuse once for place to fuse and then lasted another five years before the rest of it cooked and i even this this is my old dewalt um brushed uh quarter inch impact and uh the grip was falling off of it and it was just plain old ugly and i found online a company that sells the the clam shells for them clamshell was like 17 i think i found it on on amazon and uh yeah so now i got a nice clean one that i keep in the house for the honeydew projects and i keep the uh the new one in the van where it's all nice and dirty and uh uh i don't have to worry about having to clean it before i bring it in to uh do some work and not worry about getting greasy fingerprints all over the place so yeah i hope you liked that uh it was a fun little project uh kept me out of my van on a super hot day and um yeah so any comments or questions actually for that matter you can leave them down in the thing i'll try to answer my best uh soldering iron all that stuff and uh the copper wool and what else did i mention oh yeah the tub of towel all that stuff i keep my direct me link that's stuff that people always ask me about so i just keep it in there and uh yeah that's it for me for today so uh thanks for watching if you made it this far and catch you next time
